Elena had found herself walking through a cemetery, it was disconcerting how much time she had spent in cemetery's since her parents had died; half the time, it wasn't even to visit there graves, it was to deal with some form of vampire business.
Klaus was leading her towards a mausoleum and Elena could see the glimmer of a fire emitting from the gaps in the gate, she already didn't like this and wanted to turn back but there was no way that was going to happen.
"Sophie Deveraux," Klaus spoke as he walked inside the crypt, quickly glancing over the surroundings to ensure his safety.
"You know, you're famous in this town, witches tell stories about the powerful hybrid, Klaus," he looked almost amused by her words, his head dipping slightly and a sharp smile appearing on his lips, "We know Marcel was nothing but an orphan street rat until you made him what he is and now, he's out of control, he does what he wants and kills who he wants, I'm going to stop him and you're going to help me."
"I assure you, luv, there isn't anything on this earth that matters enough for me to waste even another 30 seconds of my time, what madness is this?" he spat, his temper returning.
"You need to listen to me, Klaus, Marcel might be able to keep us from practicing real magic in this town but as keepers of the balance, we still know when nature is cooking up a storm, trying to fight back as evil is growing, leaving the witches powerless to stop whatever it may choose to descend upon us all," Sophie explained, it almost sounded like she was pleading for his help, afraid of what might come next, "my sister died performing the spell that confirmed the darkness that is going to spread across the world is coming and there's only one thing that can stop it."
"And what's that?" He spoke, a hint of amusement in his voice.
"Her," Sophie changed her line of sight to Elena, causing her to become uneasy, "The doppelgänger, the blood that pumps through her veins is the strongest bond we have to the old ways, to the magic your mother possessed; the ritual she performed over a millennia ago set in motion a series of events that has nature finally fighting back."
"How did you know I was the doppelgänger?" She asked carefully, her gaze flickering from Sophie to Klaus; instinctively, she took a few steps closer to him, the more scared she felt, the need to be near him grew.
"The spell my sister performed confirmed it, everything that has happened lately has only proven something big is coming and this town is at the centre of it," Sophie furrowed her brow, her head dipping slightly as she remembered something, "last night, something happened to the witches in the entire quarter, we felt a wave of dark energy wash over us."
"What was it?" Elena queried, her hand subtly slipping around Klaus' arm as she pulled herself closer to him, she'd do anything to feel safe; she watched as Sophie stared at them, like she was trying to put pieces together in her head that where floating around and unreachable.
"Oh my god," she spoke abruptly, like everything clicked together and started to make sense to her, "of course, it was you two."
"What do you mean by that?" Klaus spoke with a small growl, his patience thinning.
"When you have something as pure blooded and as good as a supernatural doppelgänger mix with something so dark and evil, it's cosmic, the balance is threatened," Sophie actually looked pleased by this revelation, it meant she had leverage.
Elena and Klaus looked at each other, it was one of those looks that was searching for something more; Klaus was overwhelmed by there union being something as big and as cosmically fated and Elena was scared, all she could think about was how giving into her temptations could potentially destroy the earth.
"So, if you don't help me kill Marcel and return power to the witches in The French Quarter, I'll kill her," Sophie threatened, folding her arms across her chest.
"If you so much as lay a single finger on her then I will end you and your entire coven without breaking a sweat," Klaus bit back, his anger taking over him, "what's to stop me from just killing you and being done with all this bother? You know I'll never allow you to hurt Elena, you have no power here."
"If you kill me, you'll be killing Elena too," Sophie smiled proudly, taking a few steps towards Klaus and taking a knife out of her pocket; Klaus took a step back, moving Elena with him as he watched her cautiously with the weapon but instead, she pricked the blade into her finger and Elena gasped, looking at her hand and watching the blood trickle from the same wound as Sophie had.
"What did you do?" Klaus yelled before he grasped Elena's hand and inspected the cut, confirming to himself that it was the exact same wound as Sophie's.
"I linked myself to Elena, anything that happens to me, happens to her too."
"Undo the spell before I rip through every witch in New Orleans, leaving you completely alone and powerless," Klaus threatened, his voice raised and his temper over taking him.
"Then I'll just kill myself and take Elena with me."
"I will not be manipulated," he roared, his voice echoing across the entire area; he took a hold of Elena and used his speed to remove them from the cemetery.
He stopped at bourbon street, finding a bench and sitting down, placing his hands on his head out of frustration; Elena watched as he struggled with the power play from Sophie and the manipulation she had used to control him. She sat down beside him, placing her hands on his cheeks and turning his gaze onto her, "we'll get through this."
Her sudden touch did bring a wave of calm to him but he was furious, he stood up and walked a small distance away from her, "I won't be used by witches and I certainly won't be helping them."
"Klaus, we have too," she responded, attempting to make him see sense, "how can we not? Not only will she kill me but lots of bad things will happen, I won't just sit back and allow it."
"She's threatening me with your life, Elena," he yelled at her, not backing down, "one of the very few things I fear on this entire earth has happened, my enemies have found a weakness within me and they are exploiting it, I won't allow it!"
She remained silent whilst she processed his words, completely taken aback by his honesty and the emotion he was showing; she stood from the bench, everything inside her screaming at her to not approach and to not get attached but how could she leave him like that? How could she say nothing? She slowly took his hand in hers and stroked her thumb along his skin, "Don't see it as a weakness, I'm not going to be the one responsible for taming The Original Hybrid, the strongest creature we've ever known."
He looked at her with a hint of shock on his expressions, his lips parting slightly at her attempt at a motivating speech.
"Stop seeing emotions as a weakness, Klaus, use that anger you have to destroy the vampires in this city and take it back, restore the witches power and let them think they're winning, who cares? We need to fix all of this together," she spoke with so much passion in her voice that it was drowning out her moral compass once again.
"You're right, my sweet Elena," he pondered further on her speech, raising his chin slightly as he felt that power within him surge, "but that will mean you'll have to stay by side, are you prepared to do that?"
She took a deep breath, thinking quickly about the danger and violence she was going to willingly unleash upon her life when she said just four simple words, "I'm by your side."
"You continue to surprise me," a small smirk curled up on his lips, "who would have thought it, the hybrid and the doppelgänger."
"Well, it's cosmic, apparently," she grinned amusingly, watching as his cold demeanour broke and he chuckled.
"A thousand years in the making," they continued to muse, before he swept her up in his arms and returned them to the plantation.
It was 1am and Klaus had Elena on war talks and she was exhausted, there no was end in sight to the discussions and plotting that Klaus was involving her in; she couldn't complain, she said she would help him and that's exactly what she would do.
"So, what do we know so far?" Elena asked, pouring herself a cup of coffee and return to her seat at the dining table in the kitchen.
"We know that Marcel took over The French Quarter not long after my family left, they've somehow managed to banish the wolves and he's silenced the witches, which would have been no small feat, they where a force to reckon with in my day," Klaus reiterated to her.
"Oh wait, I forgot to tell you," Elena spoke suddenly, sitting straight up in her chair, "the night that Jane-Anne died, when you left me with the witch, she told me some stuff about how Marcel took over."
"Do go on," he asked, his curiosity piqued.
"Well, she mentioned something about a harvest ritual, how the witches had planned to sacrifice four girls to the ancestors, so they could still have magic and Marcel and his inner circle stopped it but they were late, he only managed to save one of the girls."
"And that'll be the witch that's helping him," Klaus' mind began racing with the new information overload.
"Lastly, she told me about the werewolves, there's a few packs in New Orleans but in the French Quarter, there's only one, called the Crescent Moon pack, they were cursed by witches to stay werewolves for the whole month, only becoming human on a full moon."
"Interesting," he stood from his chair and paced slightly up and down the kitchen, Elena watched as she saw the cogs in his mind start to turn, "we'll start with Marcel, then deal with the wolves."
"Great! Can I go to bed now?" Elena spoke excitedly, flashing him a grin before standing from her chair; she noticed he was watching her carefully, his eyes turning from the all business type to more lustful.
"If I had been aware I was boring you," he approached her, his hands settling on her waist, "I would have found a different way to entertain you."
And there was that pull again, this cosmic and twisted pull that drew her to him and even though she was exhausted, she found she had no strength to fight him; his lips trailed along her neck, placing soft kisses along her collarbone and up her cheek.
"We better not, just in case we upset nature more," she mused, a playful grin appearing on her lips; whenever he touched her, she felt like a completely different person, the darkness and demons within her enjoying the sick and twisted acts of love she performs with Klaus, something normal Elena would never entertain. Maybe it was the pull of the earth, it was the only explanation.
"I'd risk it," he grinned playfully, his hands on the small of her back and pulling her into him more, "I can't wait another moment for you."
"You're evil," she smirked, before lifting her head slightly and allowing him more space between her neck and shoulder; she entangled her fingers in his hair, encouraging him more, "it's wrong, twisted even, I should be thoroughly disgusted."
"I question your sanity," he snickered, as he started to smooth his hand over her shoulder, catching the strap to her top and pushing it down, his lips following it and devouring her more with kisses.
"As do I," she continued to play with him, breaking there grip of each other and walking slowly towards the living room, "but I am tired."
"Urgh, must you taunt me so," he spoke desperately, his hand on his heart playfully as he watched her walk away from him; she began removing each piece of her clothing slowly until she was completely bare.
She was stood with her back to him, peering her head around her shoulder to tease him more, "I guess you'll just have to come and take it then, won't you?"
A small and playful growl escaped his lips as he used his speed to chase her and claim her; she jumped onto him, wrapping her legs around him as he carried her through the house until they reached his bedroom, there kiss unbroken as they spent the night together once again.
