Elena had spent the remainder of the day locked in her room, buried in the grimoires from Elijah and practicing her craft as much as possible; she needed to get a handle of the magic and her emotions or she was going to remain like a ticking bomb that could go off at any time.

Knock, Knock.

Elena pushed the grimoire of her lap and onto her bed, standing up and calling out, "yeah?"

"It's me, 'Lena," Rebekah answered and she opened the door, the blonde vampire sped onto her bed and picked up the dusty old book, "oh, so that's what you're doing up here, reading mothers grimoires."

Elena closed the door and sat down beside her, "yeah, just trying to learn how to control my magic."

"I think you've got damn good control of it, luv, even my mother couldn't put barrier spells up like that in her early days," she sounded impressed.

"So, why do these weird outbursts keep happening? I've smashed every dish in the kitchen and nearly destroyed our house."

"it's not the power you need to get control of, it's your emotions, they're linked together, you need to be in a steady frame of mind constantly or outbursts of power will happen," she continued to explain but Elena was just frustrated, she buried her head in her pillow and groaned.

"This sucks," she admitted into her pillow, quite childishly.

"You'll get it, luv, the hardest thing in the world is to control our emotions, that's why us vampires tend to switch them off, they can rule us. And since you've been a witch, they've probably been heightened for you too," Elena pulled her head up from her pillow and looked at Rebekah with inquisitive eyes, "yeah, witches can get it too, especially when they're extremely powerful, you're connected to everything, you feel everything, it's bound to make things more intense."

"Huh," she exasperated, delving deep into thought, "that kinda makes sense, I've been feeling literally everything since I became a witch, the other day when I was at the supermarket, I nearly cried because a little girl was upset her mom wouldn't buy her chocolate."

"I would usually laugh at a child's torment but that doesn't sound normal," her brow furrowed and her head tilted slightly, "Elena, can you tell how I'm feeling?"

"Oddly confused and concerned," it came out so naturally that they both gasped sharply simultaneously; Elena shot up onto her feet and began pacing, "what does that mean, Bekah?"

"You should talk to Davina but I think you're an Empath," she revealed, her eyebrow raising.

"What does that even mean?" She was becoming impatient, every time she thought she was settling with her magic and accepting it for what it was, something new would pop up.

"Well, you're just more in tune with other people's emotions, you can tell how they're feeling and if it's strong enough, you'll feel it too," Rebekah explained briefly but she knew she would have to see Davina at some point.

"I wonder if that's why me and Nik have been fighting more?" The realisation dawned on her and she took a seat on the edge of the bed, "he's intense, angry most of the time and everytime we've been in the same room, I've wanted to rip his head off, we end up fighting."

"Sure sounds like my brother," Rebekah agreed and lifted her shoulders in a drawn out shrug.

"This is great," she spoke sarcastically before dropping her head on Rebekah's shoulder, "what am I gonna do?"

"I have no idea but I do recommend you see Davina soon, she'll be able to help you out a lot more than I can," Rebekah rested her head on top of Elena's for a long moment before they both sat up, "can I just ask what happened between you and Elijah before? It must have been big if you nearly levelled the house."

"Not much," she lied again but that's all Rebekah wanted, she needed to see the look in her eye when she answered the question and her suspicions were confirmed.

"Oh my god, you're sleeping with Elijah," she spoke a bit too loud and Elena panicked, placing her hand over her mouth and silencing her.

"No, I'm not sleeping with him," she said, before taking her hand away from her mouth and sitting back on the bed properly; she knew she had to keep them a secret but maybe Rebekah was different, she understood love and the heartache it brings more than anyone she knew and just maybe, Elena needed to talk to someone, anyone, about it, "it's more than just sex, Bekah, oh my god, it's intense."

"Ew," she muttered under her breath and Elena rolled her eyes; standing from the bed, she paced once again, trying to compose herself and she threw the barrier up once more.

"The way I feel when he kisses me, it's like there's a huge storm and we're standing right in the middle of it, I feel everything and then my magic makes a literal earthquake," she tried to explain, her heart warming even at mere mention of him.

"That's my brother," Rebekah shuddered, "double ew."

"Helpful, thanks," she spoke sarcastically,

"Alright, I'm sorry," Rebekah slid across the bed and patted the space next to her, Elena dropped down beside her and shifted her body to face her, "I know exactly what you're talking about, when my family and I lived here a century ago, I fell in love and I knew that he was the man I was going to spend the rest of eternity with."

"What happened?" Elena asked, worried she already knew the answer but hoped she was wrong.

"My deranged brother happened, he forced us apart, then Mikael came and we had to flee."

"I'm guessing there's no happy to ending to this story? Is that the point?" Elena sighed, "Are me and Elijah just doomed? If my power doesn't kill us, then Klaus will? Or any other enemy that seeks to destroy us."

"No, that's not the point, Elena, calm down; my goodness, you have it bad for my brother don't you?" Rebekah's eyes widened slightly at her overreaction and incessant rambling, "the point is, even after a 100 years, life has thrown every single obstacle it could in our path, and even now, I still look at him and know that he is going to be the man I will marry one day. I only wish we could have been together through out it all, if I had the opportunity now, I would take it, no holding back."

Elena nodded her head and took in every word she said, she was starting to see a running theme amongst her girl friends that taking risks is what it's all about but they clearly had never killed someone they cared deeply for; she broke her train of thought and turned to face Rebekah, a small grin on her lips, "so, who is this lucky man that stole the heart of the all powerful Original blonde?" She teased.

"Well, he's not your average fool, to say the least, he's a King in his own right, you know," she flaunted, a glow about her started to radiate.

Elena's lips parted and a small gasp escaped them when she realised, "It's Marcel, isn't it?"

"Indeed," Rebekah was positively glowing, her happiness shining through even by the mention of his name.

"I'm so happy for you, you deserve it," she felt an overwhelming wave of emotion wash over her, it was filled with love and happiness and she felt closer to Rebekah.

"Do you really think so? I've done some terrible things in the past, maybe this is my karmic punishment."

"Your past doesn't define you, Bex, you've been stuck in some heinous situations and you done what anyone else would do to protect yourself and your family, so don't beat yourself up too much," she reassured her, their bond only growing, "And Marcel is a dish, you make the cutest couple."

"Thank you, Elena," the blonde vampire pulled her into a hug and she reciprocated; another wave of emotion washed over her and her happiness and love was only growing, "he is an awfully attractive man but he's also strong, passionate, sweet-"

"Oh my god, Rebekah, I can feel you," Elena interrupted and pulled away from her hug, a shudder crawling down her spine, "shut that down before I become attracted to you as well."

They both laughed in a fit of hysterics before she tossed a throw cushion towards Bekah, "you could do a lot worse, luv."

"Okay, leave," Elena pointed towards her bedroom door, laughing and bonding as not just friends but maybe one day, sisters, "but seriously, I've done a lot worse."

"No judgement, I'm no saint either."

A couple of hours later, the two girls descended from the sanctuary of Elena's bedroom and went downstairs to grab a bottle of bourbon and chips but they were met with judgemental eyes from Klaus and Kol.

"Please tell me you two aren't bonding?" Klaus commented, much to the amusement of his brother, "you're insufferable separately but together, I believe I will have to move out."

"You're bonding and didn't think to invite me?" Kol stood from the sofa and blinked towards the girls, taking the bottle from Rebekah's hands and holding it in front of him; he stood right beside Elena and directed his full attention on her, choosing to antagonise her, "I'm all for heart-to-hearts and pillow fights, especially with excessive drinking and nudity."

"You're disgusting," Elena took the bottle from his hand and walked towards the cabinet, she took four glasses out and poured them each a drink out; turning around to look amongst the siblings, she spread a small smirk on her lips and held out a drink, "shall we bond then?"

"Oh god," Rebekah muttered under her breath as she grabbed the drink from her hand and sat on the sofa.

"I'm thoroughly excited," Kol took a drink and popped his eyebrows at Elena, his eyes filled with amusement and torment; she simply shuddered her body in protest at his words and grabbed the two remaining glasses from the cabinet, handing one to Klaus and standing beside him.

"Is there not a supernatural leash spell I can perform on Kol?" She mused, holding her glass out towards him and he tapped his against it, "his antics are growing tiresome."

"If not, I'm sure we can concoct something," Klaus smirked, much to the dismay of his brother; they all laughed and Elena felt extremely close to her chosen family, even with its issues and dysfunctional dynamics, it was the most she had felt included and loved for a long time.

Elena's glass falling from her hand brought a sudden stop to the festivities, the laughter ceased and the confusion spread; everything was moving in slow motion for Elena and a pressure began to build in her head.

"Nik, what's happening to her?" She heard Rebekah speak, as she watched Elena start to fall but Klaus quickly grabbed her and held her steady.

She groaned from the pressure building in her head and a painful flash of images seared across her mind; she clung her hand to her head as she tried to make sense of the pictures but it hurt, a lot, and trying to focus was hard.

"Elena!" She heard Klaus yell but it sounded foggy, like she was far away but in fact, he had caught her and knelt down beside her to catch her when she fell to her knees.

She felt scared, like she was under attack but she also felt the presence of the ancestors attempting to keep her balanced whilst they spoke to her; she saw the images of an army of hooded figures approaching the house, they attacked with magic and she saw nothing but fire and blood, the image of the tattoo on their necks kept flashing through and she knew it was important.

A loud gasp burst from her lips as she came back, her body instantly snapping into a sitting position and the images stopped; the pressure left her head and her breathing was heavy but the fear came and then the adrenaline followed, "they're coming."

"Who is?" Klaus locked his gaze onto hers and he was straight into defence mode at her words.

"The warlocks, they're coming here and they're bringing an army," she stood straight up onto her feet and ran into Elijah's study, she rummaged through the books until she found the grimoire she was looking for.

Racing back into the living room, she lay it flat on the table and hovered her hands over it; channelling the ancestors and asking for their help, she used there power and knowledge to guide her, closing her eyes, the pages began to turn rapidly until it remained open on the spell she needed.

"Go and get Elijah and Marcel, call your hybrids and start readying for the attack," Elena was practically demanding but she was scared and she had to take control; they did what she asked whilst she looked over the spell, she needed an item of power to harness her magic and guide her through the spell.

"Klaus," she spoke and even though he was in the other room, he heard her and was with her within seconds, "do you have anything of power that belonged to a powerful witch that lived here?"

"He doesn't," she heard Elijah's voice behind her as he entered the house, a small smile crept on her lips even if the current situation was dire, "but I do."

"I need it," she responded and those words where enough to compel him to do anything she needed; he flashed into his study and a top one of his tallest bookcases, there was a small, wooden box that looked like it belonged in the 19th century, he opened it and removed a necklace.

"This belonged to a powerful witch I was involved with during our last stay in New Orleans," He held it in his hand and extended it towards her; it was beautiful, encased with diamonds and sapphires and it was made of pure silver.

"Ah, Celeste DuBois," Klaus smirked at the memory.

"Correct," he ignored his brother's torment and turned his attention back onto Elena, "if you channel her, with your magic and hers, you won't fail."

"Thank you," Elena nodded her head and took the necklace from his hand, she returned to the grimoire and started preparing herself for the spell; Rebekah and Kol where doing a sweep of the grounds to warn of their appearance and Klaus and Elijah were strategizing in the kitchen.

A flaming spear came crashing through the front window, shattering it into a million pieces and sending Elena into a panicked state as it hurled straight towards her face but Elijah was there in a heartbeat, catching it and he used his strength and speed to throw it hurling across the fields in front of their house.

Kol and Rebekah returned to the house covered in blood, standing beside their brothers and around the table Elena was kneeling in front of.

"There's dozens of them and they keep coming, whoever planned this attack means to kill Elena and they won't stop until that goal is achieved," Kol exclaimed.

"We should run, Nik, we can't protect her here," Rebekah suggested but Elena quickly refused her idea.

"Where can we run too when there's that many of them? Nothing will stop them from coming and we can handle this, we have too," it took a long moment of contemplation but they all agreed.

Suddenly, all of the Mikaelson's fell to there knees, screaming out in pain and clinging to there heads for relief from the brain shattering pain within it; the warlocks had surrounded the house in a perfect circle and she could hear the quiet mumbles of a chant. She instantly threw up her barrier around them and blocked there magic, each of them returned to the feet in a fit of rage.

"I can't hold the barrier and perform the spell I need to beat them."

Several of the warlocks entered the house and they each extended there hands and shattering the barrier around them; Elijah darted towards them, his hands penetrated through there chests and he ripped their hearts from there resting place, letting them fall and snapping the neck of the third one.

"Do the spell, we'll hold them back for as long as we can," Klaus stated, before blurring beside Elijah, "just like old times, brother."

Elena shot her eyes onto Elijah, her hues buried in worry and regret and as he returned her concern, her emotions began to take over, she was writhing with power and she was going to use it; the two brothers vanished from the house and Kol and Rebekah dealt with the influx of warlocks that tried to get in.

Marcel arrived minutes later and with him, he brought the hybrids and his vampires and they surged through the warlocks but they kept coming; Elena held onto the necklace and she closed her eyes, repeating the words that were wrote on the page and began her chant.

The power of the harvest, the doppelgänger lineage and the ancestors of New Orleans who flowed through her through the necklace Elijah gave her and she felt indestructible, she had never felt anything like it and it was all consuming.

"Rebekah, behind you!" Kol called out when two warlocks appeared behind her, holding her with her magic and snapping her neck; he quickly pulled their hearts from their chests and used his speed to move his sister in front of Elena, the safest place she could be right now.

Elena started chanting louder and the whole room began to shake, blasts of wind swept across the room and destroyed everything in its path; Kol screaming caused her concern, he was the last one in the room that could defend her and he had just had his neck broke.

The warlocks approached her and she stood up, turned around and a loud scream burst from her lips, they where encircled by the wind that emitted from her and suffocated them almost instantaneously; Elijah and Klaus returned to the house upon hearing her screams and she proceeded to do the spell.

Marcel flew in next, he was in full vampire mode and covered in blood, "I'm losing guys out there."

"I'll send some of the hybrids in to protect Elena, we need to be out there, Elijah," Klaus spoke before they quickly exited once again; they where practically invisible as they ran at full speed towards their enemies, crushing, feeding, and destroying the warlocks by the many.

Rebekah woke up and joined them when she knew Elena was safe with the hybrids, they were more than capable of killing the warlocks and stopping the flaming objects from hitting her.

The spell was becoming stronger and stronger, just as she thought it would take its toll, she got a flux of energy from the necklace and the ancestors helped her further; clinging to the necklace and repeating the spell over and over again, she started to feel it work. She tilted her head back and she slowly started to raise her hands up beside her, the warlocks started to hover in the air and the vampires and hybrids stopped their fight to watch in complete shock as she controlled them all.

They all clung to their throats, desperate for air and they thrashed against her hold but it wouldn't break, she chanted louder and more forcefully and all there bones started to break until there necks twisted and snapped, the bodies fell to the floor and the fight was over.

The siblings and Marcel were quick to return to the house and Elijah was instantly beside her with his hand on the back of her neck, "Elena? Are you okay?"

"I think so," her breathing was heavy and she felt weak, she brought her hand to her face and wiped away the line of blood from her nose to her lip, "did it work?"

"I'll say," Klaus smirked, looking at her with complete awe, "you massacred them all, little warrior, well done."

"And everyone's safe?" Elijah nodded his head at her words and took her hand by request, helping her to her feet and staying close to catch her if she fell; she placed her hand on his shoulder and gave him a look of reassurance, "I'm okay, Elijah but I could use a drink."

They all went into the kitchen on the hunt for a bottle of liquor, most of the contents in the house had been destroyed during the spell but if Elena knew the Mikaelson's, then there would be one stashed somewhere that would be unbroken.

And she wasn't wrong, buried deep in the back of a cupboard, there was an unopened bottle of scotch; Klaus prepared the drinks and joined his family in a circle, Elena just stared at all of them, feeling the love that each of them had for each other and it overwhelmed her, the empath skill to her magic was consuming but it was moments like this that made it worth it.

Each of the siblings were covered in blood, from the mouth down and they were a complete mess; Elena was starting to feel weak and tired but she wasn't ready for the evening to be over. They all raised their glasses in the centre of the circle and joined them together, Klaus saying those three words that solidified there bond for a millennia and the ones Elena now too lived by, "always and forever."
