There was a low chanting in the distance, it was ancient and sounded more like prayer than a spell; she walked further across the field until the ceremonial grounds had been revealed to her and the dark magic that was buried within it.
The Soul Eaters had formed a large circle and they all stood with their heads lowered and there hands joined in prayer, there was a large fire in the centre and there was a pentagram painted on the grass in blood; they hadn't flinched when she arrived, they knew she would come willingly, it was prophesied.
A gasp of horror escaped her lips at the violence the pentagram held, each point of the star had a dead body hoisted up onto a large spear on it, each from a faction, vampire, werewolf, witch, hybrid and human, she knew where she would be forced to sit.
In the middle, it was always the middle.
There was a large brass bowl sat on a table at the top of the field, directly aligned with the top point of the pentagram and it was filled to the brim with blood; the table housed a mass amount of dark objects and remains, bones, jars of blood and what appeared to be the charcoal heart of a Soul Eater. The one she found dead in the basement when they first took her, she presumed.
She had to bury her fear and the urge to scream and cry at the horror scene before her eyes, she had to be braver and stronger than she ever has before but it was hard, her brain couldn't process the violence and evil that flowed beneath the ground.
A few long minutes had passed and the Soul Eaters stopped the chanting and what appeared to be the leader stepped out of the circle and neared the altar table; he was dressed in all black robes and he had an Egyptian ankh around his neck, she had only ever seen them in museums but she knew they represented life and if it belonged to them, then it was to fuel there dark magic and restore them to this plane; The other Soul Eaters had been dressed in red robes and had no such relic, they where awaiting commands from their leader and it would soon come to pass.
He suddenly raised his hand out towards her and he got a magical hold of her, he pulled his hand back swiftly and she screamed as she was hurled into the centre of the pentagram with a bang; she was forced onto her back and magically trapped, she was unable to move, all she could see was the dead bodies around her and how there blood kept continuously dripping onto the points.
She was terrified, shaken to her core by fear and pain, she was starting to doubt herself and her power as they continued with the ritual; the leader began to chant and she felt a pressure build up in her chest, it was enough to make her scream out in pain but not enough to kill her.
He continued with the spell as he hovered his hands around the bowl, walking with it as it levitated towards her; she kicked against the hold he had of her but it wouldn't budge, she was stuck and he joined in the pentagram with her; his face was pure evil and his eyes where black and they stared deep into her soul, each passing second cracking at her very light.
She was instantly forced into a kneeling position and she had absolutely no control of her body; he dipped his entire hand in the bowl of blood and placed it forcefully on top of her head, the chanting grew louder and she felt the blood drip down her face and along her back.
"You won't get away with this," she mumbled under her breath but he did not care, he only continued in marking her body ready for the blood sacrifice; he painted a symbol on her arm and she didn't recognise it but it seared into her skin like it was burning her, she winched slightly but she wouldn't give them the satisfaction of a single tear or scream.
He dipped his entire hand in the bowl once again and this time, he lunged his hand around her neck and squeezed, leaving a mass amount of blood along her life source and she was covered, just like she saw in the dark vision she conjured from the message in Alexander.
She was forced back into a lying position and held there as he began to start the final chant, the pressure built up in her chest and she could feel the pain radiate across her whole body, a small bright light began to emit from her chest and a loud, penetrating scream burst from her lips, she sent a strong shockwave of energy across the field and disoriented them for a long moment, the light stopped and it gave her that few seconds she needed to sit up and yell, "Now!"
She felt the cloaking spell drop and the 9 covens all emerged from across the field, all joined in hand as they chanted intensely at the Soul Eaters, each of them raised from the ground and held in stasis; Elena heard the warlocks start to appear in and she knew they wouldn't be far behind, the vampires, werewolves and hybrids all descended upon them, killing them before they even had a chance to utter a spell and they kept control of the groups that would materialise in.
Elijah appeared next to her and he was saddened by the weak and blood soaked state she was in but to her, it didn't matter, this needed to be done and she was ready; he handed her the necklace and she slipped it back on around her neck and he locked the clasp.
The leader of the Soul Eaters began to screech louder than ever before and the sound penetrated through the entire area, it was weakening the stasis spell the witches had them trapped in and he was released; Elena propped herself up on her knees and held her hand over the necklace, she began to chant and call upon all the ancestral magic at her disposal to keep him behind her barrier spell.
Klaus emerged from across the field and appeared beside her, a small smile curled up on his lips at her safety; he placed a soft kiss on her forehead before removing the small trinket box from his pocket and slipping it into her hands, "finish this, little warrior."
"How?" The Soul Eater hissed, as he watched her begin to chant with a look of terror in her eyes and the memory flashed across her mind, how a single conversation changed the course of events for the night.
The compound - 2 hours ago.
Elena had been pacing up and down the courtyard since her conversation with Elijah, she knew this was going to be difficult to navigate considering she depended on him for most of the plan but he was compromised, he was Elena's biggest weakness and they would exploit that, it was the only way they could ensure she would go willingly.
She came to realise that if they can get to Elijah, then were any of her loved ones safe?
"You're pacing again, Elena, if you don't calm down, you're going to let your emotions get the better of you," she heard Klaus' voice emerge from behind her and she smirked, "what's wrong, luv?"
He sat down at the table and pulled out a chair for her, gesturing for her to take a seat; she took a deep breath and obliged, her concern written all over face as she threw up her barrier and kept them in privacy.
"I have a bad feeling about the plan and if I've learnt anything since being a witch is that I should trust my gut," her fingers were tapping against the table as she tried to balance her frustration and her thoughts, both where fighting each other and she couldn't think straight.
"What is this bad feeling? I can see you're having trust issues considering the barrier," his brow furrowed slightly and his paranoia began to seep in at the thought of an enemy in their midst.
"I feel like they're going to know the steps to our plan, the box, the necklace, the charms and spells, everything."
"You believe someone will divulge our secrets?"
"Maybe not intentionally, they are an ancient power, Nik, they can get to us without us even realising it, I don't know who to trust," her doubt was obvious in her tone of voice.
"So, you're saying any one of us could be compromised? They could be in our heads right now?" His paranoia was clearly starting to fester.
"Don't lose it on me now, Nik, I think you're the only person I can trust, a thousand year old hybrid with a tendency to be closed off to the world and with a burning desire to protect his family-"
"And the urge to not disappoint you," his paranoia began to alleviate and a small smile crept up onto his lips.
"You could never disappoint me."
"Whatever you need me to do, I'll do it," he was firm in his voice, strong willed against there foes and even more sure in his love for his family, especially Elena as she chose to be there, he would not let her down.
"You can't tell anyone of this plan, no-one besides us can know."
"I am quite good at keeping secrets, I would even claim the title expert," his silky voice and smirk hid a lifetime of indiscretions and she knew he would keep it safe.
"After the memorial, when my Empath gift has been tested, I'm going to project all of them emotions into the box and I'm going to give it to you, you have to keep it safe; one of us will go missing when we separate and that's when I'll teleport myself there," she knew who it was going to be but she couldn't tell him, not yet, not until the last moment when his real reaction could be seen by the warlocks and the soul eaters, "I'll charm a crystal to break through any preventative measures and I'll send you a note with our location, wait for my signal then return the box to me."
Klaus shook his head slightly in disapproval, "Elena, there's a lot that could do wrong with this plan, I'm not sur-"
"There's a few more detai-"
"You're not hearing me, Elena, what if something goes wrong?" Her answer to Klaus' question was an easy one, something she truly believed within herself and she wasn't going to give up now.
"I trust you."
Present.
The leader tried to escape, he tried to materialise away and even run but Davina and Marcel came over the field and she channelled the 300 year old vampire, using his power and her own harvest magic to return him to stasis; he tried to screech and break free but he was stuck against Davina's hold and she had him.
She levitated the box in front of her and took Elijah and Klaus' hands in hers; moments later, Kol and Rebekah appeared and joined them, holding there brothers hands and allowing Elena to channel the entire power from The Original Family. The power of a thousand.
There was an overwhelming amount of magic surging through her and when they all connected, it was time to be end this once and for all; she prayed to all the ancestors, she conjured power from deep within herself and her doppelgänger lineage and she had her family beside her in an unbreakable power that couldn't be tested.
She closed her eyes and focused her mind onto the box, it began to shake like it was ready to erupt but she had to make sure the spell was correct, it could only be used against the Soul Eaters and in the immediate area or it would be unleashed onto the earth in an almighty blast of emotion.
She muttered a low chant beneath her breath and the wind began to thrash around the entire area, the trees swayed, the fire from the torches began to soar and a heavy bout of rain began to pour around them; the box shook violently as she intensified her chanting and a bright white light began to shine through the openings until it burst open, a wave of light and emotion blasted through the entire area and the Soul Eaters screeched against it.
They each began to feel every emotion contained in the box, everything she felt for her loved ones, every ounce of happiness they brought her, the pure love she had for Elijah, her fear, rage, sadness and every emotion she compressed within herself from the funeral all went into that small trinket box and it was unleashed upon them.
The screeching came to a drawn out stop when each of them froze in a statue like state, there eyes where shocked open but they fell to the floor like a boulder and they where gone.
She immediately began to chant the reversal spell her and Davina wrote and the light sucked back up into the box, she sealed it magically and once the spell was complete, it fell to the floor.
The vampires and werewolves had an influx of warlocks materialise in as a last stand against them in honour of the Soul Eaters deaths and they had there hands full, she turned to look at Klaus and nodded her head, she knew he had a lot pent up anger and emotions and he had to unleash it, "kill them all."
He looked at Kol and then Rebekah, a small smirk appearing on their lips as there eyes began to change colour, the veins beneath there eyes darkened and there fangs extended; they vanished into the massacre and added to the bloodshed, they ripped through the warlocks like they where made from paper and all she could hear was the howl of the wolves and the growls from the vampires.
Elena looked glanced around the area, watching as the vampires, werewolves and hybrids all worked together to defeat the remaining warlocks, the witches all congregated to perform one last spell to free the area of dark magic and bless the land once again and Elena instantly sunk into Elijah, she was awash with emotions and it all poured into their kiss, she was relieved this was over with and they could move on with their lives.
Using his speed, he wrapped his arms around her and brought them up, he swept her off her feet and spun her before landing her back down gracefully, there kiss unbroken and their hearts filled with love.
Once they were free of the warlocks and the dark magic that riddled the land, Elena walked around the area hand-in-hand with Elijah and the siblings walking behind them, taking in the destruction that came from the ritual; there was bodies everywhere, scorched earth and the blood flow was immense.
"We need to cleanse the area, there's still so much dark magic here that it will need to be performed with all nine covens," Elena spoke, before turning her attention onto the siblings; she avoided looking at Klaus as much as she could, she could feel his pain and that was hurting her beyond belief, "we need the bodies gathering into a pile and we'll cleanse them in holy fire."
"Elena, you've done enough, let me and the covens handle this," Davina approached her, a soft smile curled up on her lips.
"No, it's okay, I think I need to see them burn with my own eyes otherwise I'll always believe they'll be coming for me," she offered a smile to the family before walking with Davina and joining with the witches; there was an awkward tension between Elijah and Klaus and she only hoped it didn't turn into rage.
All nine covens formed a circle after the vampires and hybrids finished moving the bodies, they where piled up on the pentagram and every dark object and item used in the ceremony was thrown on top; the witches all joined hands and began to channel, the breeze returned and it could be felt by every creature within the area, when nine covens join together, the power is immense.
The chant was short but powerful, it didn't take long for them to conjure the magic they needed to start the holy fire and destroy the bodies; the fire scorched through them and the ashes sunk into the ground beneath where they lay, completing the cleanse and diminishing the area of anything to do with the dark and ancient magic that was The Soul Eaters.
Elijah and Elena had returned to the plantation after the events of the ceremony had come to a final completion; some of the witches and werewolves joined the vampires and the Mikaelson's at Rousseau's for a celebration. After everyone cleaned themselves up, of course, there was so much blood spilt tonight that it was impossible not to covered.
Klaus had immediately left them after the cleansing with holy fire and she knew that was going to be a problem they would have to face tomorrow; no amount of apologising would tame his temper, she could feel his hurt and it was huge but she could also feel loss, the loss of both her and Elijah.
She found herself in the shower, rinsing away the blood that covered her skin, it was drenched on her neck, face, hair and arms, and she was thankful the burning symbol on her arm vanished once the ritual was stopped; she couldn't stop the flash of images from consuming her memory, every dead body, every drop of blood spilt and the violence that she took in would be forever etched into her, a dark memory she needed to compress.
Once the water stopped running red and she was physically clean from the battle, she exited the shower and stood in front the mirror, scanning over her body for any injuries but they appeared to have vanished, every scratch and bruise from being thrown about had gone and she remembered she still had Elijah's blood in her system.
She was thankful for that small blessing.
She emerged from the bathroom and saw Elijah staring out of her bedroom window, he was as clean and perfect looking as always, as if none of this happened; she stood beside him, resting her head on his arm and joining their hands, "Are you okay?"
"I'm concerned about Niklaus, he didn't utter a word to me after the ritual, I fear we may have angered him," his voice was solemn and his demeanour frozen.
"He'll come around, he has too, we're family," she started placing soft kisses along his jawline at an attempt to comfort him.
"You don't know of his past, Elena, what he did to Rebekah and Marcel, it was tragic."
"I know, she told me how he forced them apart and then they had to flee because of Mikael, leaving them separated for a whole century," she pulled his hand slightly and lead him to the bed, still wrapped in her towel and sat beside him, "that is not going to happen to us, Elijah, he's grown so much since then and he wouldn't abandon us, even if he is hurting.
"I hope you're right," he trailed his fingers along her cheek before sliding his hand behind her neck and pulling her into a slow but passionate kiss; she climbed up onto his lap and wrapped her legs around his waist.
"I am right," she started lavishing his neck with small and soft kisses, trailing her teeth and tongue along his collarbone and pressing her body against him; she unhooked the towel and let it fall onto the floor, revealing herself completely to him, his hands smoothed down her body and settled on her hips, "enough negative talk for one night, I can think of something else I'd rather be doing."
A small smirk formed on his lips at her words and using his speed, he stood from the bed and pressed her against the wall, their night filled with every level of intimacy to be explored.
