I do not own Pokemon
Once again, the referee calling his name snapped him from his planning. He looked at his team.
"Gem, you stay back this time. Worp, you take the lead. King Shield if you think they're about to use a fire move, then Aerial Ace should take down these fighting pokemons in one or two hit tops. If things get difficult, Vike can take your place and sweep." Vike snorted, eating up the praise, while Worp merely tilted itself in approval.
As Parker stepped into the arena, he could hear the cheering of the crowd. Apparently, Gem had left quite an impression on them. He smiled, noticing the nervousness of his opponent as he whispered something to his Hitmonchan, already out of the pokeball and ready to battle.
Parker took a deep breath, focusing his energies and clearing his mind. He looked around. No one had recognized the move. Good. Now, a Baton Pass. Parker grabbed Worp's handle and, in an overly dramatic display, tossed the Aegislash into the middle of the battlefield. Worp twirled menacingly, halting its momentum in an intimidating display of power that earned him a few impressed noises from the crowd.
As the referee lowered his flag, declaring the start of the match, the opposing trainer shouted his command.
"Fire Punch! Now!"
Hitmonchan darted forward, fist pulled back, enveloped in flames and ready to strike the Aegislash only for Worp to raise his King's Shield, nullifying the impact. Parker didn't wait, Leering at the opponent. A second Fire Punch slammed against the King's Shield, flames harmlessly scattering around the Aegislash's defenses.
The third attack struck the Aegislash's blade, leaving a microscopic indentation as the juices of the Occa berry absorbed most of the attack, evaporating in the process. The Hitmonchan smirked in satisfaction, only for his smile to turn into a blank look of disbelief when Worp twisted itself around the hilt, its blade slashing deep into the pokemon, forcing it on its knee. Hitmonchan tried to get back up, but its leg didn't respond.
"Hitmonlee! Make them pay! Blaze Kick!"
Hitmonchan returned to its pokeball, while the new challenger's flame-covered kick once again slammed into Worp's King Shield, dissipating into nothingness.
The two pokemons stared at each other for a few seconds, Worp's King Shield still up. Parker smirked. Hitmonlee had readied itself for a Sucker Punch. Smart move, but in reality all it did was allow Parker the chance to use another Leer on the fighting pokemon.
The two pokemons launched themselves at the other, Hitmonlee's Blaze Kick hitting Worp's hilt in an explosion of fire, while Worp's blade pierced the pokemon's body. As the impact launched the Aegislash away, Hitmonlee fell to one knee, clutching the wound on its torso. With a clunking sound, Worp sharpened itself on its own scabbard, eager to finish this fight
Hitmonlee was engulfed by a red light as its trainer recalled him.
"Hitmontop, let's do this!"
Worp launched itself at the pokemon, ready to finish the battle with one last Aerial Ace. As its blade was about to hit, however, the Hitmontop spun around, hitting Worp with a powerful Sucker Punch. Worp spun out of control, slashing the Hitmontop but without the power required to finish it off.
Worp staggered back to its stance, King's Shield already up, while Hitmontop paced back and forth, taunting the Aegislash to attack. After a few more seconds, Parker smirked. It was clear that his opponent was banking everything on Sucker Punch. He was pretty sure that Worp wouldn't be able to take another hit, but unlike his opponent, he had other options. And besides, he had already used Leer on the Hitmontop four times, a single hit would spell certain doom for the pokemon.
"What do you say, Vike. Wanna clean up?"
Vike smiled.
"Worp! Out!"
As the Aegislash launched itself back towards his trainer, Vike jumped into the arena, wings glowing with power as he charged in, ignoring the Hitmontop's blow to his stomach as he slammed his wing into the pokemon's chest with enough force to send it tumbling out of the battlefield.
The crowd exploded in cheers as the referee finally stepped in.
"Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee and Hitmontop are unable to battle!" he looked at the trainer, waiting for a second before continuing "Jimmy of Slateport city wins!"
Parker walked back in the corridor, handing Vike a bottle of Fresh Water.
"Good job both of you. Worp, lemme see how you're doing."
The Aegislash was in pretty bad shape, its normal sheen blackened by the Blaze Kick impact and scratches covered the length of the blade after that devastating Sucker Punch. Parker pulled out a piece of cloth and started to wash Worp, almost dousing the pokemon with Fresh Water to remove all the stains on its blade. Once Worp was back into top shape, he handed the pokemon his last Occa berry.
He glanced at the battle taking place in the arena, the Lapras once again dominating the competition thanks to the combination of Snow and Blizzard. Parker frowned.
"This will be the final battle. We're pulling all the stops and I expect the best from all of you. Pan, you're first. Start with Toxic Spikes, then we'll work it from there. I need you in top shape to Superpower that Lapras. As always I'll Leer from the backline, but the ones that will decide the battle are ultimately you. You know your moves, unless I call for a specific tactic I trust in your judgment."
The cheering of the crowd told Parker that it was time for the finals. As expected, the Lapras had won.
"Let's go win this tournament."
And with that, he stepped into the arena.
The trainer wearing the princess costume was waving at him, pokeball ready.
Parker took a deep breath, focusing his energies, before addressing his opponent.
"Good luck."
The woman smiled.
"Thanks! Let's make this battle memorable!"
Parker took another deep breath, once again focusing his power, but didn't Baton Pass it to Pan. The Nidoqueen wouldn't benefit from it as much as his other pokemons, so he opted to save it for someone else Vike, Gem and Worp could certainly benefit from it, while Guts would be able to pass it over with her own Baton Pass.
The referee raised his flag.
"And now, the final fight between Jimmy of Slateport city and Eve of Cinnabar Island! Let the battle begin!"
Pan dashed forward just as a large shadow covered the majority of the arena.
"Go, Snorlax!"
The massive pokemon landed on the ground, shaking the arena as the crowd cheered at the pokemon's entrance.
Without a second of hesitation, Pan spread her arms, scattering her Toxic Spikes all over the opponent's side of the field. The Snorlax charged, its massive body slamming into Pan and pushing her back. Pan skittered across the arena, holding herself steady. With a glare at her opponent, she charged in, leaping into the air, stomping on the Snorlax's belly with both of her feet.
The pokemon barely reacted, taking a single step backward as its belly bounced, pushing Pan back to the ground. The Snorlax yawned, the bellowing sound of the move echoing through the arena in a hypnotic pattern.
Parker frowned, knowing very well what was about to happen to Pan, and he needed her out. The Snorlax was big, but didn't look particularly threatening. He looked at Guts and pushed the Mawile forward in the arena, hitting her with a Baton Pass.
"Pan, get back!"
Snorlax charged in again, just as the Nidoqueen darted toward her trainer, only for the massive pokemon's frame to impact Guts's fake jaw, tanking the attack destined for Pan and forcing the Snorlax to back away.
The Mawile closed her eyes, snapping the fake mouth as she prepared herself.
"Heavy Slam!" shouted Eve.
Snorlax once again charged in, this time jumping in the air, its body slamming onto Guts, who barely managed to avoid being pinned down.
"Again!" shouted Parker, leering at the Snorlax.
"Put her to sleep!" shouted the female trainer, as the Snorlax's yawn echoed once again across the arena.
"Spit Up!"
Shouted Parker, as Guts opened up her fake mouth, unleashing all the stored energy she had accumulated into a blinding explosion of light that enveloped the Snorlax, the sheer amount of energy released leaving friction burns across the pokemon's belly as the giant fell on its back, unconscious.
"Snorlax is unable to battle!" shouted the referee, over the crowd's cheers. Eve recalled her pokemon and readied her next pokeball.
"Charizard, go! Use Flamethrower!"
"Guts! Get…" Parker couldn't finish his sentence. The Snorlax's last attack had put his pokemon to sleep and there was no way for her to get out of the way. She was enveloped by Charizard's flames, leaving her scorched on the ground. Parker darted into the battlefield, pointing at Worp.
"Stall!" he shouted, reaching for Guts while his Aegislash launched himself into the arena. He ignored the referee declaring his Mawile unable to battle and grabbed her, rushing her back to safety. He took a great sigh of relief as soon as he saw Guts moving. She was weak, but she was alive.
As he looked up, Parker saw Charizard's flames dissipating against Worp's King Shield. Charizard looked enraged, small purple lines slowly creeping upwards, starting from the feet where the fire pokemon had stepped on Pan's Toxic Spikes.
Charizard roared, readying itself for another attack, before being engulfed in red light.
"Espeon, go! Future Sight!"
Parker frowned, looking at the psychic pokemon. There went his stalling strategy. Well, if he couldn't hide behind Worp's shield, he would go for an all-out offense."
"Fury Cutter! Now!"
Worp lowered its shield, charging at the Espeon with its blade glowing, leaving a deep red gash at the side of the pokemon.
"Again!" shouted Parker.
Worp launched itself towards the pokemon, only for his attack to be stopped by a pair of claws. The blade impacted with enormous power, leaving a heavy indentation into the arms of a small pokemon with what looked like swords coming from his cheeks. Parker looked at his opponent smirking at him.
"Eject Button. - She pointed at Parker's Aegislash - Fraxure, use Taunt!"
The sound of a shrill roar echoed through the arena. Parker felt a shiver down his spine.
"Worp, don't! Use King's Shield!"
But Worp wasn't listening, seemingly melting into the arena's shadow and appearing behind the opponent's dragon pokemon, slashing at its back. The Fraxure turned around, opening its jaw and slamming them around Worp's blade with a sickening Crunch. Before Worp could respond, however, purple lights started to gather around Worp's handle, suddenly exploding in a shower of colored sparks. Fraxure took a few seconds to orient itself from the dazzling light, before tossing the sword toward Parker.
Worp clanged against the floor just as the referee declared its defeat.
Parker dashed toward his companion, quickly overtaken by a furious Gem, her form already shifted and ready to release her full power. She saw the Fraxure enveloped in red light, but she charged in relentless Pursuit, striking the dragon pokemon down before it could fully retreat.
"Fraxure is unable to battle!" Parker was brought back to the present. Worp was a ghost pokemon, so long as the sword was intact it was impossible for him to die. He had to focus on the battle, his team needed his help.
A nervous Eve tapped her pokeballs, uncertain on how to proceed, staring intently at the mutated Beedrill in the middle of the field. After a few agonizing seconds, she tossed a pokeball up in the air
"Go, Charizard!"
The two pokemons studied each other for what seemed like an interminable second, then charged at one another.
Gem's stinger pulsated, slamming into the fire pokemon's belly, pumping it full of poison and causing it to roar in pain. The Charizard opened its jaws, yellow flames erupting like a fountain, completely engulfing the Beedrill in a terrifying screech of pain.
Gem fell on the ground, her body reverting back to her regular form. She stumbled on the ground, frying to get back on her feet only to fall again.
The charizard roared, the purple lines of poison now enveloping its entire body, now too weak to fly. The two pokemons stared at each other, too weak to launch the final attack
"Both Beedril and Charizard are unable to continue! It's a double elimination!" declared the referee.
As red light enveloped Charizard, Gem finally collapsed, just in time for Parker to grab her.
"It's ok, Gem. You did great." he reassured her.
Parker looked back at Eve. He knew she had a badly injured Espeon, a Weavile and a Lapras. He, on the other hand, only had Vike and Pan. He knew Lapras wouldn't come out, Eve needed the Weavile to set up Snowscape. He also knew that, should he send out Pan against the much faster Espeon, there were good chances that Pan would be knocked out. The choice was obvious. He took a deep breath, focusing his energy. He hated not being able to join the battle with his pokemons, but he would be damned if he didn't Baton Pass his first pokemon.
"Go, Vike!"
"Go, Espeon!"
The two pokemons entered the arena, barely giving each other a second before they rushed toward the center of the arena, Espeon charging some kind of psychic beam before Vike struck, biting down into the pokemon's wounded side. The Espeon cried in pain as Vike's momentum forced him to roll on the ground. As the dust settled, Vike roared in triumph, standing over his unconscious enemy.
"Espeon is unable to battle!" declared the referee.
Eve frowned, recalling her pokemon.
"Go, Weavile! Snowscape!"
Vike interjected the Weavile, his wings glowing with power as he unleashed a barrage of wind blades toward the pokemon. The Weavile was hit hard, one lucky strike had clipped its head, forcing it to the ground covered in bruises. Despite the attack, however, the Weavile was still standing and soon enough, snowflakes started to cover the arena. The pokemon then jumped, much faster than it had any right to be, launching itself toward the Crobat, planting a powerful kick right into its face.
Vike countered with another flap of his wings, his wind blades striking the Weavile mid-air and sending it tumbling on the ground, where he was promptly enveloped by the red light of a Pokeball.
"Let's win this, Lapras! use Blizzard!"
Vike charged once again his wings, unleashing a third wave of wind blades at the opposing pokemon. Lapras opened its mouth, summoning a powerful wave of ice-cold wind that completely enveloped Vike. Parker dashed in, grabbing his falling pokemon from the air before he had the chance to slam against the floor. He was unconscious, but still breathing.
"Crobat is unable to battle! This will be the last fight between Lapras and Nidoqueen." announced the referee.
Parker launched another Leer at the Lapras, breathing hard thanks to the poison now circulating into its body.
"Let's go, Pan. Superpower!"
Pan roared, charging into battle. Lapras launched another Blizzard, the cold wind crashing against Pan, who stood defiantly against the attack, ignoring the ice crystals slithering its way in the chin of her natural armor, against her unprotected skin.
Parker launched one last Leer at the ice pokemon just as Pan roared with all her might, leaping into the air, fist cocked back and slammed against the shell of the pokemon. The impact caused a sock wave powerful enough to clear the piles of snow. For a second, nothing happened, Pan's fist struggling against the Lapras's tough shell, when it suddenly gave way, bleeding cracks spreading all over the ice pokemon as it cried out in pain. As its roar raised in pitch, the Lapras's eyes turned into the back of its skull, causing it to fall on the ground, unconscious.
For a long second there was silence, before a red light enveloped the Lapras and the referee raised his flag.
"Lapras can no longer fight! Jimmy of Slateport city wins!"
And the crowd roared.
Epilogue
Eve approached Parker, hand stretched.
"That was a great battle, Jimmy!"
Parker cringed. Why the hell did he choose Jimmy as his name? He shook her hand.
"Please, call me Parker. I never liked my name."
Eve scratched her head in nervousness.
"Oh, sorry about that. I didn't offend you or anything right? I know it's probably not a big deal, otherwise you would have said something to the referee, but then you just asked me to call you Parker.. - she paused for a second - I'm not making a great first impression, am I?"
Parker smiled "Don't worry about it. Your name is Eve, right?"
"Yes! Eve, from Cinnabar Island. I'm traveling around to get my team ready to face the Elite 4."
"You certainly have a good team for it."
"Thanks! Your team is pretty strong too, are you aiming for the Kanto League as well?"
Parker shrugged "Not really. I've spent a lot of time in the wild with my pokemon, I only decided to get back to civilization because I don't have quite enough reserves for the winter."
"That's amazing! - Her eyes sparkled - Where have you been? Did you travel to Alola? Is it true that they have portals to another dimension over there?"
Parker laughed. Sure, he had heard those rumors, but he didn't believe them for a second.
"Never been to Alola. I have climbed to the top of Mount Moon, but that's more of less the extent of it. Kanto and Johto only, I'm afraid."
Eve nodded. "That's still amazing! What was up there? Any strong pokemon?"
"A Frosslass. A hard fight, but not as hard as the time we were ambush by an Annihilape's fight club."
"Amazing! I've never seen an Annihilape! Not even the leader of the Fighting Dojo in Saffron city has one!"
Eve barely contained her own squeak of joy, before taking a deep breath and assuming a more serious face.
"Say, I have absolutely no experience in traveling off-road and… well, there isn't really a lot of information about it, especially on where to start. You… Well, you are clearly an expert on the matter. Do you think it'll be ok if I were to join you for a bit?"
Parker was taken aback by the sudden request. He had nothing against the idea of a traveling companion, and Eve's pokemons certainly seemed strong enough to handle themselves in the wild… maybe he should accept the offer?
He looked behind him at his pokemons, beaten and bruised. He would need to discuss the idea with them, but once they got over the rivalry developed in the arena, he didn't think they wouldn't have anything against traveling with Eve and her pokemons. He smirked.
"I'll have to ask my pokemons, but I suppose there shouldn't be any issue."
"Yahoo!" shouted Eve, jumping in the air, before grabbing Parker's arm in an attempt to pull him.
"C'mon, put your pokemon in your pokeballs and let's get them healed at the Pokemon center!"
Parker shook his head.
"I don't use pokeballs. And besides - he smiled evilly - you can consider this your first lesson: how to treat wounded pokemons when there is no Pokemon center nearby."
THE END
Notes
Battle 1: lvl 32 Hitmonlee, lvl 32 Hitmonchan and lvl 36 Hitmontop. Not much to say here, Ghost type gives Worp a huge advantage by limiting the enemy team moveset to only 3 moves. Include level advantage and a flying-type sweeper like Vike in the back pocket... easy win
Eve's team: lvl 38 Charizard (Blaze), lvl 35 Snorlax (Immunity), lvl 36 Lapras (Shell Armor), lvl 35 Espeon (Syncronize), lvl 35 Weavile (Pressure), lvl 40 Fraxure (Unnerve). Now, that was a fight. It took me a lot of time to plan this out and were it not for Parker's blatant cheating thanks to Leer, that would not have been a victory. i know there was a bit of a misplay with the Espeon, but hey, not everyone's perfect. Not even Parker (who didn't switch out a taunted Worp knowing a Future Sight was on its way)
Well, that's it, folks. This is the end of the story. Not because there isn't anything to add, but because... well, I have to end the story at some point or another.
I hope you enjoyed the journey and while I won't be able to respond to any of your comment, I promise I'll read them all.
Like I mentioned before, if you want to use Parker (or Eve) in your own fanfction feel free to do it. And if you do, please send a link my way, I'd love to read it
