November 1992
"Expelliarmus"
"Protego"
The two spells could be heard over and over again in Remus Lupin's Defense against the Dark arts class to varying effects. He had spent the first two months of classes testing the aptitude of the students. The last two teachers who held his post left much to be desired, while fourth year and above had a decent foundation and first and second years were still learning the basics, the third years were in the worst spot
"You need to concentrate more while using the shield charm Mr. Thomas." Remus said to the dark skinned Gryffindor who's shield was wavering "You hear me class, if your intent isn't strong enough your shield will break, I have seen it plenty of times and the consequences aren't pleasant to look at."
"Expelliarmus" Malfoy said coolly and his lackey's wand landed in his hand Crabbe looking amazed at his "boss"
"Well done Mr Malfoy, 10 points to Slytherin." Draco just held his head high, he was the heir of his family this was a simple task for a wizard like him
BANG
Remus quickly turned towards the noise and what he saw surprised him, a golden dome with cracks. His eyes widen slightly, the dome itself was the result of a very well done shield charm, the intent an will behind that was more than what he expected from a thirteen year old. But the fact the dome had cracked was also a feat , there had to be some serious magical power behind that
Daphne Greengrass let out a breath she didn't know she was holding
"Is that all Potter?" She taunted her partner. She had dreaded when the professor paired them off but Potter had a decent amount of power in his spells, she wondered why he lazed in class if he could preform such feats.
Harry huffed in annoyance and prepared to fire again when the professor's voice rang out
"That's all for today class. Mr Potter and Miss Greengrass see me afterwards, please."
The class gathered their things and began to clear out
"Don't worry Ron I'm sure it won't take long, give me a few minutes to not have my death predicted." The sole Potter told his friend who snorted in response
"Sure Harry I'll save you the usual seat, c'mon Hermione."
"Really Ronald even if the Professor is a bit….peculiar doesn't mean you she disregard her. You too Harry." Hermione scolded as she looked pointedly at Harry while dragging Ron out the room as he grumbled. Harry silently laughing at him
"Professor you wanted to speak to us?" Greengrass's voice pulled his attention back to the front of the class
"Why yes, I would first like to award you each 20 points for the best results of the class and to keep up the good work. No point in showing favoritism but I was really impressed with you two." Remus said honestly, he knew Harry wanted to learn the Patronis charm and today gave a him a bit of confidence towards that
Harry looked embarrassed not used to praise
"Thank you professor. Will that be all?" The new DADA teacher had been very competent so Daphne had no problem showing respect. Respect is earned as her father taught
"Well I wanted to ask.. have you been reading ahead and practicing what's in the textbooks? You two seem to have a decent grasp on today's spells."
"As heiress to the Greengrass family my father has always made sure I can defend myself as part of my education in the family business professor." The marauder thought about what he knew of House Greengrass, they were a very mysterious family. He couldn't recall an allegiance in the last war but Simon the current head was a bit of a philanthropist, funding potion and spell research.
"Well he certainly has the right attitude to have a such talented daughter be able to protect herself. And you Mr. Potter?"
"No actually." Harry looked sheepish "it just seems like easy spells especially the disarming charm. I thought it was just an easy spell to learn." Hand scratching the back of his head
"I see, your mother was also excellent with charms seems you have that in common. Well thank you for humoring an old man's curiosity you two may go." Remus emailed and sent them off
"Potter" Daphne stopped Harry as they exited the class room
"Uh yea?" Harry questioned all his interactions with Slytherins haven't been pleasant so this politeness caught him off guard
"You're spells today were very powerful, I was wondering why you underperform in classes so much. With your family history and status I was beginning to wonder."
Harry looked for some type of devious motive but all he could see was curiosity so he answered honestly
"I don't know much about my family, I live with my muggle relatives on my mum's side and they don't like magic to much."
"Oh." Hazel eyes blinked owlishly but that surprised lasted only a second. Daphne was a true Slytherin and saw this as an opportunity
"Well I happen to know some things about your family our grandparents did go to Hogwarts together and knowing you're ignorant of wizarding customs I can help you there as well."
Harry looked skeptical "And what do you get out of this."
"An ally, one doesn't get fair if they only have allegiances in one's own house also I could use a dueling partner, from what you displayed today you would be a great partner to practice with." Again no deceit was detected, after staying with such horrible relatives for so long Harry had a pretty good sense for malicious intent
"You know the entire time I've been at Hogwarts no one has offered to tell me anything about my family." He started sadly "so deal" hand extended
"Deal" hazel stared into green a pact being formed Daphne turned to walk away but turned back
"For both our sakes Potter keep this between us, can't be very helpful if we're both outcast from our houses." And she walked down the hall
Present day
Daphne shook her head as she remembered the day her alliance with Harry started. What started out as a simple arrangement had turned into a genuine friendship. Listening to Draco for two years had done a number on the boy-who-lived reputation in Slytherin but after getting to know him she quickly discovered he wasn't bad. What most took for cocky aloofness was just shy ignorance, he wasn't dumb but more like a fish out of water.
He was very easy to talk to and only really had a problem when others preyed on the weak, Daphne was most surprised when he had very Slytherin solutions to problems.
Didn't mean he didn't make her mad though, after last year he promised her that he would be keep his nose clean but maybe it was too much to ask. Saying he was a trouble magnet was an understatement. He was always in the center of attention, and she was raised to avoid that as much as possible. Most of the Greengrass' dealings were best done in the background.
Daphne sighed as she walked. He was supposed to be a good contact, her father instructed her to form connections, a simple task for a future Greengrass head. There was a lot that endeared Harry to her, his honesty and loyalty were big points. She had no doubts about if he would have her back
Dragon song war and dragoons. She had never heard of such topics and her grandmother was a historian. Matter of fact she should write to her as well, this sounds like one of the ancient legends she used to tell her when she was younger
Making it to the owlery she found her personal owl Weaver
"Hey boy." She petted the owl as he stood at attention. He was a gift from her father in second year when he formally started training to take care of family business
"I need you to take this to father straight away, the faster the better."
"Hoot hoot" the owl sounded as to say aye aye
With the letter in tow weaver flew off into the distance. Great now time for the boring part, the waiting. It would take at least a couple of days for a reply.
She looked at the time, she had another meeting to go to and she needed to get Tracy. Tracy Davis the other person in this school Daphne could trust. Their mothers had been friends in school and Tracy's mother worked with Daphne' father so it was only natural they grew up together. If there was one person who knew how Daphne ticked it would be Tracy, she watched it in real time after all
Rushing backing to the Slytherin common room, she wanted to get this over with. Being well rest will help in the coming days, if today was a preview. Giving the password and walking in she saw her a group of her year mates playing exploding snaps, Tracy among them looking smug. She had her chestnut hair tied up and wand at the ready. She was playing for keeps today
"You could always give up guys." She smirked at her opponents
"I'm out, this is getting embarrassing." A dark skinned boy stood
"C'mon Blaise her luck has to run out." Draco replied. Tracy was undefeated in the house at the game it was a house pool to see who could beat her finally
"We only started playing because you refused to talk about the task Draco." Blaise roiled his eyes
Malfoy scoffed "Why would I want to talk about that. Potter cheated just as he did to enter the damn thing."
"How would Potter cheat his way onto a dragon?" Daphne asked moving next to Tracy.
"The same as always, being that blubber old man's favorite. I should speak with father and see if the board of governors will do anything about it."
Hazel eyes rolled "Well I look forward to hearing about this investigation. Tracy? Mind joining me on an errand."
"Sure Daphne. You should thank this angel for saving you lads." Tracy hopped up and stretched until her back gave a satisfying pop
"And where are you two going." Pansy Parkinson demanded from Malfoy's left
"Just some family business. Nothing you need to worry about." Daphne waved her off, it always amused her how much "family business" was a getting out of jail free card in pure blood social circles. Every family had its secrets, the Greengrasses just knew a lot more of everyone else's
"Well see too it that you don't cause trouble." Draco said turning to talk to group again as Daphne and Tracy walked out
"So what's this about Daph?" The blonde looked at her blue eyed friend
"I want to get on top of this task situation. Harry would like this to pass quietly as possible and it's peaked my interest to be honest. The less scrutiny the better"
Tracy chucked "Oh, Potter's idea?" She asked knowing the answer
"Not exactly but he just faced a dragon. There would be too much drama and rumors around the whole thing by the time he thinks about it."
"And what are you getting this for this? Is this freelance work? What would your father say?" Tracy asked excitedly. They were both taught as kids that nothing is free but the blonde threw the boy-who-lived quite a few freebies
"Oh hush, Harry is a great investment and I don't want my hard work to go to waste." Daphne huffed
"Is that what we're calling your secret boyfriend now? An investment?"
"I have no idea what your talking about. Now hurry up." Turning slightly red and refusing to look at her friend Daphne walked faster Tracy giggling as she also picked up pace
Walking towards the greenhouses the Greengrass heiress spoke "Keep your wand ready"
"I'm always at the ready, who do you know with a quicker draw." Tracy asked offended
"Harry."
"You know when can I meet wonder boy, you always talk him up but I still haven't been able to meet him."
"Later, now be a look out." Daphne walked over to a flowerbed
"Greengrass, a pleasure as always" a voiced called from the darkness
"Davies, beautiful evening isn't it. Now I have a lot of things to take care of so makes this quick. Where's my gold." Daphne replied nonchalantly. Since training with her father she quickly learned clients like to hide in the shadows. Very cliché.
"Um yes, right here." Taken aback by how the fourth year the six year Ravenclaw hastily pulled out a pouch
"Excellent." Pulling a case from her school bag and a wick exchange followed
"Have a great evening Davies." She turned to walk back to Tracy
"That's it? Not going to count them or anything?" The boy was confused. He just got a mind Talisman, a charm that gave one rudimentary Occlumency shields. The item he got was questionable for a students but not illegal but this was still not what he was expecting
"75 gallons isn't really something I worry about Davies, I'm not going to entertain the thought of you underpaying. I told you I have other things to worry about." She sounded bored. As she continued back to her friend leaving Roger stunned
"You could have done this by yourself Daph." Tracy said with a raised eyebrow
"True but way we could talk." Daphne excitedly grab her childhood friend's arm. The Brunette rolled her eyes.
"Uh huh. About what."
"The stupidity my idiot has gotten into" the two walked back to the common room
"Oh he's your idiot now, congrats on the status change." Tracy teased her friend. She talked about Potter enough, it was about time.
"Well no, we're not together but that's besides the point. The blonde was red as a tomato.
"The how is he YOUR idiot?"
"Well who else is good enough for him." An eye roll
"Well I happen to think I'm a fine specimen" Tracy lightly shoved her laughing
"True but you're not a hussy, you don't steal property from your best friend." The two broke down in a heap of laughter before continuing on their journey
-scene change-
Harry stretched out a yawn as he woke up from his nap feeling way more energized than before. He grabbed his wand to check the time and it was just passed dinner. Might as well grab his cloak and go to the kitchens.
Lightly jogging up to the fat lady he jumped to miss the trick step when something weird happened. He cleared the entire staircase.
"Well that's new." He said to no one in particular but seeing how no one new the extent of his changes he chalked it up to mystery dragoon powers and continued on his way
"They've been waiting on you dear." The portrait told him after giving the password and being bombarded with cheers from his house mates
"Give it up for Harry Potter the dragon rider!" He heard from what sounded like one of the Weasley twins
"Leave it to a Gryffindor champion to finish the task so stylishly." The other followed
Harry laughed the twins had faith in him the entire time and he appreciated it. He was pretty sure that they had a hand in Ron coming around. To be frank he was still upset how most of the house turned on him but compared to the dragon situation that seemed kinda small by comparison.
"So tell us Harry how did you do it?" Someone from the crowd asked and all time turned to him
Shit, the million galleon question. Even Daphne had drawn a blank to this one, the end result of the task was seen by hundreds of people but the best lies have some veritable truth to them so they came up with something
"Well Charley said my magic bonded with the dragons for and alluded for me to talk to her." He said and the crowd broke out into feverish chatter
The best strategy was to downplay the effects of what happened and control the narrative. He may hate the rumor mill but he was going to spin it in his favor this time.
"Let's here it for Harry the dragon whisperer!"
Harry hung around in the common room for about an hour before he went to his dorm, seeing him move Ron and Hermione followed. When they got to the fourth year boy's dormitories and saw the coast was clear Hermione jumped into questioning
"What's really going on Harry?"
Harry rubbed his temples "I honestly don't know, while flying against the dragon it spoke to me that's about all I know. I'm supposed to talk to her again tomorrow." It's not that he didn't trust them, he trusted them with his life. Hermione would look down conventional roots and he couldn't trust that right now and the situation with Ron was too raw
Hermione paused for a second before asking "and a dragoon? I haven't heard of one or seen any books on it."
"Guess I'll find out tomorrow, Sylvi made it seem like some secret knowledge. Only Dumbledore and Charley knew what it was and it seems like ancient fairy tales." Not a lie but not the whole truth either
"Geez mate, talking with dragons sounds kinda cool though." Ron said in acknowledgement
"Believe me it was terrifying in the moment. Can't tell you if it was trying hard to kill me or not. I just want this tournament to be over."
"Yea about that, I just wanted to apologize again. I-" The sixth Weasley child started
"Ron it's ok, just glad to have me friend back.
The three friends sat for a bit catching up as a unit until Harry gave a huge yawn
"Well Harry you should get some rest. It's been a long day." Hermione rose form her seat "see you two tomorrow." She walked out the room
"So Harry between you and me how are you really feeling?" Ron asked
"Tired, I feel like I'm being punished just for existing sometimes."
"Just know from now on I got your back."
Harry got ready for bed and slept like the dead, even though he had a really weird dream. Knights in armor that looked like dragon scales and lances. They fought along side and against dragons, doing such amazing things, jumping heights only meant for winged creatures, breathing fire, shooting spells from their lances. Harry would soon learn he was now draconian and the knowledge transfer from Sylvi worked both ways and the dragon's knowledge of dragoons was planted in him
Sylvi looked towards Gryffindor tower as she felt the magic of the boy she marked. Truthfully when she interacted with his magic she was bored. Most dragons stayed in reserves for an easy life but she was born more powerful than her brood mates, she was envious of the free dragons and the freedom they have well the ones who didn't let their primal magic take over. Even dragons had horror stories theirs was just named Tiamat. She thought the boy would just get some extra abilities but no his magic evolved
Slyvi felt joy either she created a true dragoon or a worthy fight to release her boredom for a few years
"I hope you're happy." Mei called out breaking her from her thoughts
"Peace is boring after so long, let me enjoy my fun."
"Your fun might bring doom. You were always cocky cause you were strong for your age."
"Don't worry I can take care of it if it comes to that." The Horntail laid her head down Mei scoffed
-scene change-
After waking up and sending a letter to Sirius, Harry made his way to the edge of the forbidden forest. He had a few hours before he was supposed to meet Daphne so he should probably talk to his dragon….whatever she was too him. As a champion he was aloud to skip classes and potions first thing was not on his to do list. He saw Charley off into the distance and walked over to him
"Morning Harry. Shouldn't you be in class?" The second eldest Weasley greeted him
"Champions can skip classes for the tournament and I got Snape first thing."
"Ouch can't say I blame you he's always sucked. Here to talk to the Horntail?"
"Well yea but I also wanted to talk to you. What do you know about dragoons?" Green eyes looking curious
"Well the last one was around about two hundred years ago. Really the only known thing about him is he could talk to dragons and bonded with one and that dragon was his familiar. Anything else is just old stories from Merlin's time with little to no evidence." Charley answered
"So what does that mean for me?" Harry asked confused
"Well my boss has been notified and we'll long story short you might own a dragon now." Charley shrugged
A look of disbelief crossed Harry's face "Own a dragon, are you mental?"
Well we could take care of her for a few more years as your in school but yes. If the dragon has indeed bonded with you making you a dragoon the dragon is yours by right."
Harry honestly didn't know why he was surprised
"Well I feel as though I should talk to her about it then."
"Sure go head, come see me afterwards to hash out the details." The red head waved him off
"Young dragon." Nora the Walsh Green fretted him as he walked over
"I'm young dragon now?" Harry asked
"Your magic is draconian enough for you to be considered one." She replied nonchalantly, that was news to Harry
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Go ask Sylvi, it's all her handiwork anyway." Nora yawned and laid her head down
"Right. Well have a nice nap." A hint of frustration in his voice. The more answers he seemed to get the more questions popped up.Harry rushed deeper into the forest where he could hear the Horntail
"Dragoon, about time you showed up. Your magic has taken on the properties of my kind quite well." The dragon spoke her spiked tail swinging about
As much as the sight was intimidating. The boy was annoyed
"Ok, can you please tell me what's going on? You've really done nothing but talk at me." He started aggressively. After a night to clear his head and the adrenaline long gone one thing was clear. He was in the dark about the whole situation and after befriending Daphne last year in matters of the magical world that could be a death sentence
"I already have. Did you not gain this knowledge through the magical imprint? The dragon sounded amused
"What is that even supposed to mean."
"Curious, I know without a doubt I have you the knowledge, remember dragon kind can share knowledge through our magic. Your magic was comparable so even though you're human the process should still be the same." Amusement replaced with curiosity
Harry thought about the weird dreams he had
"Well I saw images and flashes last night when I was sleep." He said slowly. Was that what she was talking about
"Possibly, the elders just say dragoons could exchange information the same way as us dragons, I've personally never met one." Sylvi answered honestly
"So you know as much as I do." Harry spat
A scoff was heard "Please child, tales of dragoons are passed down to all hatchlings. Maybe it's with you being newly changed or you're just weaker than I thought you'd be. Tell me of what you saw."
Harry recalled what he saw in his dreams, the knights in dragon armor and the things he saw them accomplish. As a side mention he brought up how he cleared a wrote of stairs
"Yes the things you speak of are things the elders show us. Your human mind must be the difference here, dragons instinctively know all knowledge transferred. I also wonder what this does for your magical abilities." Sylvi hypothesized
This got the boy in front of her thinking "so how do dragons use magic?"
"We just do. Unlike you humans we don't need tools like those little sticks. As dragons we will our magic and the results are possible if you are powerful enough. Our very beings is what we use to cast."
"So you can't teach me?"
"There is nothing to teach. I have given you all the knowledge passed down to me about your predecessors, dragons do not learn magic, they are magic." What was this child not getting, even hatchings could understand the flow of magic without being taught. It must be the human factor
"Stop thinking as a human, that is below you now."
"But I am human." Harry was slightly offended
"Believe what you want child, magic doesn't lie. Now what else do you want or did you just come to whine?" Tired of talking in circles Sylvi wished to change the subject. Harry sensed the finality in her tone
"Charley and the other dragon handlers don't know what to do about this situation. Dragoons or whatever you call me aren't well known they have no idea how to deal with our pact."
"There is no pact during our exchange our magics interacted and yours changed for the better."
"Oh well they seems to think we are bonded and I might own you now." Unsure on how to bring it up the young dragoon decided to be upfront. This caught Sylvi's attention
"Humans arrogance knows no bounds, no human as ever owned a dragons. Only weaklings get enslaved and have no right to be called a true dragon." She laughed "Do you believe you own me youngling? Care to face me in combat?" Harry sensed she was begging to say yes, that grin was too hungry and sinister.
"No no." He hastily replied "But I do wonder if I will ever see you again."
The Horntail paused, she honestly hadn't thought of that. The dragon handlers would hunt her if she roamed as she pleased. Plenty elders shaped shifted and explored the world when they were strong enough for the ability, some stayed on reserves for comfort. What was the point of young free dragons when humans couldn't communicate anymore.
"Give me a few days to think on the subject. You should meditate, learn your draconian powers and maybe then the knowledge I shared with you will be known to you fully."
"Well I can see how long Charley is staying but that's all I can do." Harry got up. It was almost time for lunch
"Go youngling if I need you sooner I will call." The dragon turned away
Harry was a little relieved, he wasn't completely blind. Sure he was basically told the figure it out but now he had an idea on a direction. He looked at his hand as he walked towards the castle. No longer human. Those words bother him. He still felt human nothing had really changed since yesterday. He shook his head as he saw the dragon handlers
"Mr Potter, Charley told us to direct you to him when you got back." A black haired woman running over spoke to him
"Oh thank you Miss" sentence hanging in the air
"Emily Thompson." A smile graced her face with a hand extended. She looked in her mid 20s, tanned skin and honey eyes. An exotic beauty.
Harry accepted the hand and blushed a lil "Thanks Miss Thompson."
She laughed
"Emily is fine." She waved him off "Here I'll take you to him."
They walked in the direction of Hagrid's hut silent for a spell before Emily asked a question
"So rumor has it you bonded with a dragon. You know dragoons were just an old wives tale in this profession." Curiosity laced her voice, wasn't often something this big happened in the dragon business
"Something like that. Still trying to wrap my head around all of this." Harry expected questions like this and he could hear Daphne in the back of his mind
"Keep everything vague Harry, we have no idea how this could bite you in the arse."
"So how long have you been dealing with dragons? What's it like?" He quickly asked
"Thinking of picking up the profession?" Que a wink and a cheeky smile
"Not before today but it might be a promising career giving the circumstances."
"That's fair, well I'm 24 and I've been doing this since I was 19. My folks wanted me to get a boring job after school, I tried it but it wasn't for me. We do more then just tend the reserves we also save hatchlings and try to contain raging dragons."
It didn't take long to find Charley coming for the grounds
"Charley here is Mr Potter." Emily spoke
"Please just call me Harry." Harry was quick to correct, she seems like an alright person
"Thanks Emily. So Harry have you made a decision?" Smile wide on is freckled face
"Would it be ok if I had a couple of days to think it over, it's a very big decision."
"Well that makes sense Charley. After the cool factor wears off he still has to take care of the beast." Emily queued in Charley paused for a moment
"Well I can hold our bosses off until Friday but the sooner the better alright?"
"More than enough." What ever Sylvi was planning he hopped 4 days would be enough
After chatting for a moment longer Harry pulled out his trusty map, lunch hadn't started yet but he didn't want to deal with the masses yet. That was a tomorrow problem, he needed a day to for all the dust to settle. Damn it Fitch was at the entrance, he would make a scene. Looking for one of the secret entrances a flash hit him, a knight jumping.
Being a dragoon supposedly gave him great jump height and aerial mobility. Looking around he found a window open on the third floor. Well why not start testing his new boundaries
Closing his eyes he concentrated on his legs. At first nothing seemed different but the a small tug of magic was felt from inside. It felt different than when he casted a spell more primal. With a snap of his eyes he jumped, his body on auto pilot
5 feet, 10 feet, the second story.
Coming up on the third floor his accent stoped and he quickly grappled the ledge and climbed in.
He'd actually done in, he couldn't explain it but he just knew what to do. Maybe the Horntail had a point and draconian magic was instinctive. Wanted to make it to his sanctuary he rushed to the fourth floor also clearing the star case in a single "hop", he really should test his jumping capabilities
Making it to his safe space he didn't see any sign of Daphne, sitting down on one of the chairs in the empty classroom to wait on his friend, he pondered on the dragons words. If what she said is true he had all the tools he needed he just had to access it. Meditation was not something he normally did but new powers seemed to much of a boon to not attempt it
Harry closed his eyes concentrating on his dreams from last night. While he could remember it it was still not clear, the images were but any thoughts surrounding them felt hazy.
"Your magic is draconian enough."
The Walsh Green's words piped in his mind. Did dragons magic really feel different? He thought on the first task, on Sylvi every time she used her magic breath her magic was very intense. Now that he thought about it magic did have a feeling now. He could feel it from everyone and everything now, he just never consciously thought about it.
"Dragons are magic"
Feeling for magic similar to Sylvi's he tried to clear his head again entering a trance he saw nothing but darkness but still trying to feel this draconian magic he supposedly had. A roar shook him out of his trance but before the darkness faded he saw two green dragon eyes looking right at him
"Ah." Harry fell back startled
"You ok there Harry." Hazel eyes looked at him in concern.Harry shook his head to clear his thoughts
"Yea, I think so, was trying meditation. How long have you been here."
She lifted a brow
"About 10 minutes, I figured you wouldn't have eaten as you often do and brought food.. You were in some trance and didn't respond I was about to spray water at you. So meditation, that's new."
"Well Sylvi, the dragon, said I should know what I need to and my magic should have told me already. So I was meditating, supposedly I have dragon magic so I was trying to see what that is."
"Oh, discover anything?" This was interesting he had her full attention
"I honestly don't know, I can't explain it but I do just know some things now. I did jump from the ground into the third floor earlier." He replied scratching the back of his head
She blinked "I'm sorry I think I have something crazy in my ear, did you just say you jumped to the tired floor?"
"That's exactly what I said."
Daphne got up and paced for a bit thinking about this new development. Hunger had caught up with Harry and he grabbed one of the sandwiches that she brought
"Well we should probably see what all about you has changed from physical attributes to your spell casting. This dragon obviously knows some but is being an ass." She finally said after some time past
"Makes sense, so where should we start, matter of fact how are we even gonna test my jumping skills."
"One thing at a time Harry. Be the way all that was for you I ate already. We can do some casting in here."
Harry nodded his agreement to the plan and picked up another sandwich
"How was classes?" He asked
"Boring, Snape was insulting you more than usual."
Pretty soon after making sure he wasn't starving and talking for a bit they were facing each other
"Ok Harry, how about you cast a disarming spell, no better way to start than back to the basics." The blonde Slytherin instructed
Harry chucked back to basics indeed, it was only a year ago that speed started this friendship. Grubbing is wand he started casting as usual when this green reptilian eyes flashed in his mind
"Expelliarmus." The spell was faster than normal also it was blue in color
Daphne eyes widened, something felt different about this spell. Her surprise didn't give her time to make a shield so she dove out the way and the spell impacted the wall
A deep gouge was the result when the spell landed. Again Daphne was surprised, Harry was always strong for his age but that simple disarming charm looked lethal
"Daphne you ok?!" Said boy rushed to her side
"Y-yea let's try that again." She wanted to test something
"Are you sure?"
"Yes Harry I'm not som damsel."
Going back to their positions the same scenario played but Daphne was ready this time
"Protego Extella" a golden shield appeared followed by two more making a 3 layered barrier. This was an older barrier spell and the strongest she could cast currently
The blue disarming spell hit the first layer and shattered it, Daphne expected this
The second layer shattered, not surprising
The spell got to the thirds layer and it seemed to hold for a minute be it shattered too. This surprised Daphne even though she was only 14 she had an affinity with barrier spells, she was sure even sixth years could not just tear down a 3 layer shield charm. She braced for impact but the azure spell disappeared before it hit her
Daphne fell to the floor, that spell drained her.
"Is that really just a disarming charm?" She asked breathlessly
"Um yea, I just casted it like I normally do." Gryffindor by her side again, the last thing he wanted to was hurt her. She giggled he was so cute when he was worrying
"Well now we know for sure something has changed. That spell was more like a blasting hex than anything. Do you feel drained or anything?." Daphne was always excited for a new mystery and Harry never had a shortage of those
"Not particularly no. I mean my magic feels different kinda felt like when I was meditating earlier." He replied thoughtfully
"So draconian magic is different from humans. You essentially cast a human spell with dragon magic hypothetically. Truthfully we need to evaluate you from scratch, you don't want to be in class and accidentally kill somebody."
"Not even Snape, accidents happen you know."
"Aren't you Gryffindors supposed to be noble, murder is a Slytherin pastime." She rolled her eyes and the both laughed
"I do think I picked the wrong house some days."
"Of course you did, you willingly deprived yourself of my presence for two years. You should haven known better." Harry rolled his eyes
"Blame Malfoy." She put a hand over his a soft smilie showing and Harry blushed
"I do everyday." She lingered for a moment before standing
"Now let's see what other surprises you have for us." He nodded and the two began again to see what all being a dragoon did to Harry
-scene break-
Sylvi gathered her magics once again and prepared to alter her being once again. The hatchling brought her some interesting information, while she dread the idea of being property this misunderstanding of draconian magics might work in her favor
This presented an opportunity to be close to the young dragoon to keep trace of her investment.
Mist surrounded the area and as it disappeared Sylvi stood half her size. All dragons could shape shift the extent depending on a number of factors. The main 3 being age, power, and will. Legends say the most ancient and powerful ones could take on human forms and they roamed the earth. Well Sylvi was only about 120 she was the most powerful of her hatch group by a wide margin.
It should be no problem to mater this magic, she could fire a breath of pure magical energy a skill most don't obtain until their fourth century.
No longer would she have to live on tales passed down, her boredom will be quelled
