Twin Tails of doubt
He seemed never fit in anywhere.
From the moment he was born, it caused trouble.
Two tails! What kind of a fox kit is born with two tails? It'd non natural!
His mother had no time to react; she breathed her last not long after his birth.
His father did not mind, old Kilo Prower was too wrapped up his science.
Only uncle Merlin treated him with any affection, treated him with any kindness.
But even a wizard is limited in how much time he can show a favorite nephew.
The people in his village were not so kind;dirty looks, cruel remarks.
No end of teasing from the other children; bullying and mean words.
He tried to ignore it, to black it out, pretend it wasn't there...but it still hurt.
He wanted to impress his father, earn his love. Sp he studied his science.
Kilo Prower picked up on his eagerness, and taught the boy everything.
But he could not give the boy the love he desired, kilo was a man of science
who still suffered from the loss of his wife, he could only go though the motions
and poor Kilo was left bereft of the feelings a child should be freely given.
Then came his father's expedition to coca island. To study chaos energies.
He hoped to find one of the Chaos emeralds, but the Battle bird armada found him.
Executed in cold blood in front of his son's eyes,for the crime of 'spying' on the bird's operations.
Kilo's last breath telling his son to run. No child should witness a sight so cruel.
But Miles made it back to his father's cabin, and turned their inventions on the battle bird forces.
Miles destroyed the battle bird forces that day, forcing the armada into retreat.
The great battle Kuku, Kilo Prower's murderer, perished from a burst blood vessel that day.
In an utter rage, indignation, and disbelief at being bested by a mere child.
The armada, under Prince Speedy's rule now, limped home after their defeat, humiliated.
Miles then returned home, to be cared for by by Uncle Merlin. The bullying began anew.
It seemed he was doomed to this fate, until the blue blur appeared Westside Island.
When Miles first saw him, he couldn't believe his eyes. This guy was so really, really cool!
He could run faster than anyone else, and smashed all of Eggman's robots! So amazing!
Tails wanted to be just like him, he wanted to be as cool as the hedgehog, named Sonic
and show the blue blur that he was cool, too! So he started to follow him, barely keeping up
and soon found he could fly with his two tails! The thing that made people see him as a freak
now became a blessing. Sonic thought he was cool, and gave him the name Tails. He let his
new little bro fix his stuff, and they soon became like family. For many years, wherever
the blue blur went,so went his little bro. They took down the death egg together, they
faced the dangers of Angel island. Sonic once saved him from Doctor Eggman's clutches,
and he returned the favor by Saving Sonic from the clutches of Naugus and Witchkart.
He was there when Sonic brought down Chaos, and even Saved station square from a
destructive bomb. He protected Amy from Eggman on the space colony ARK, and
helped Sonic rescue the president of South Island's daughter from Metal Robotnik.
making friends with his big brother has let him live a blessed life, but also a cursed one,
as well. Too many times has he cowered in fear, when Sonic needed him the most.
So many times was he a follower and a tag-along, instead of standing on his own two feet.
So unsure of himself, relying on Sonic for his strength, instead of being inspired by him
Tails has suffered many painful blows in his role as sidekick, but none more painful than
during the horrors of the Metarex war. Alien invaders came from beyond the stars,
just as the black arms had... but so did she. the plant girl princess was Tail's first love,
his first brush with the tempestuous emotions of adulthood. His time with Cosmo
was a happy one... but it was all too brief. The sweet, innocent summer child sacrificed
herself to save the earth... and poor Tails was the one who had to pull the trigger.
No child should have to go through this.
The rabbit girl has great affection for him, he did help save her mother, after all.
Even at this young age, she seeks to ease his pain. Giving him flower crowns, and smiling.
That affection may blossom into true love love one day, but that is far into the future
Today, he is still a shy little sidekick, Today, he still follows Sonic on adventure after adventure.
Fixing the tornado, inventing a translator for the whisps...he is eager to help, eager to please.
Helping his big bro lets him forget the bullying, the terrible loss of his father and of Cosmo,
It lets him forget how much of a failure he thinks he is, and how afraid he is of letting everyone down.
Poor Tails, he thinks everyone looks down on him, when his own greatest critic in the world,... is himself.
Everyone else admires him for his inventions, praises him for his bravery, and values him for
his contribution to the team. The only one who can not see this, the only one still echoing the bullies taunts,
his father's scientific words of parental indifference, and Cosmo's laughter ringing in the corridors of his mind...
...is the little fox himself. Poor, poor Tails, no child anywhere, should ever have to go through what he did...
but Miles Prower did. He lived though it, and in the end, came out all the stronger because of what he had to endure.
