Mark walked through the doors of Joe's bar, seeking a distraction from everything that happened this year.
He just wanted to find any woman who would sleep with him tonight, because sex had always been his form of coping. It made him forget about all his crappy life decisions for a short moment. And he certainly made a lot recently.
Quickly, a woman sitting at the bar caught his eye. She was sitting alone and there weren't any drinks standing next to her, so she was probably not with anyone.
He was ready to make his way over to her, when she suddenly turned around to look at the entrance. It looked like she was waiting for someone or by the look on her face, hoping someone specific wouldn't come through the doors.
He took a moment to look at her, and she was stunningly beautiful. Not just hot, he had seen how flawless her body looked when she turned her back to him, but she was also genuinely beautiful. And it was not often that Mark Sloan called a woman beautiful. He normally described them as hot or sexy.
But that brunette was so breathtaking, he needed a second to get his head clear.
Mark couldn't help but stare; she was a rather petite girl, slim but he could tell her body was toned even through her clothes because they were skin-tight. She was wearing a black sweatshirt that had a square neck and the same color skirt that ended just above her knees. She was wearing simple black heels and her brunette waves were shoulder-length. But most of all, he studied her facial features, she looked perfect, if that was even a thing. And her eyes, he only got a glimpse of them, but they were a deep brown, almost chocolatey color, he knew he could stare into them for hours.
She took a sip of her drink, and he noticed how soft her lips looked. He wondered what it would be like to kiss them. He wanted to kiss them.
And suddenly he noticed what he was doing and what he was thinking.
Why was he staring at her? His plan was to pick up any woman and sleep with her, and only sleep with her. He wasn't the kind of guy who stared or talked with women. He never had been. He was the kind that his best friend's wife cheated with, the kind that snuck out of women's hotel rooms at night so he wouldn't have to deal with them in the morning. Definitely not the kind that stared at a strange woman in a bar and fantasized about kissing her.
Yet, there was something different about her. He couldn't figure out what exactly it was, but she was magnetic.
He finally snapped out of it, he must've stood there for like five minutes, and made his way over to her.
He sat down on the barstool next to her and put on his infamous charming smile. "Hey"
She looked at him, unsure if he was actually talking to her. "Hey," she replied.
"What is such a beautiful woman doing all alone in a bar at those hours?" he said in a flirty tone.
She scoffed and stirred her drink. "I just buried my mother. I wasn't in the mood for company."
After about a second, she realized what she had just said. "Oh god, I'm sorry that was a little too much oversharing. I just... I had a couple of drinks and..." She paused to gather her thoughts for a second. "Let's forget what I just said and start over."
Mark wasn't sure what to say to that. Normally, he would've told her some dumb excuse and made a run for it. After all, he was in search of a distraction, not for someone who had their own problems. But for some reason, he didn't get the urge to flee.
He would've actually listened to her if she wanted to vent. His mother died when he was thirteen, so he had a pretty good idea how she was feeling right now. But he also remembered that he didn't want to talk about it back then. He just wanted something to distract him.
Was it weird that he was willing to listen to a woman whose name he didn't even know talk about something so personal?
"I'm Mark." he introduced himself, giving her the restart she wanted.
She shot him a smile, she hadn't expected him to actually stay. "Lexie." she replied.
"The usual?" Joe suddenly asked Mark, who had been trying his best not to stare at her again.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, the usual." he ordered, and a few minutes later, Joe served him a glass of scotch. He gave him a thankful nod and turned his attention back to Lexie.
"You come here often?" she asked him.
"Yeah, you?"
She took the last sip of her drink and gave Joe a hand signal that she wanted another one. "I used to, I live a few blocks away but I just moved back here from college." she explained.
At her words, it hit Mark how young she actually was. She probably was about twenty-four, maybe twenty-five. Even though she looked older than that, did it really matter for just one night? He never cared about age He just wanted the woman to be over eighteen and preferably over twenty-one because he wasn't going to do something illegal. It would also be disgusting for a grown ass man to sleep with an underage girl.
However, he still found himself caring that she wasn't closer to his age. Not because she was too young and certainly not because he would feel bad for sleeping with her, there was something else, a feeling he couldn't shake off.
Lexie saw him thinking and started to panic a little. "I went to medical school, I'm twenty-four." She felt the need to clarify.
Somehow that didn't really stop the feeling Mark had, but if there was one thing he could do in his sleep, it was flirting, so he easily pushed the feeling down and put a smirk on his face instead. "Medical school, huh? So you're beautiful and smart."
"It's not that hard, people tend to over-exaggerate I guess." she played it down. She actually didn't find it as hard as people say it is.
Mark chuckled. He went to medical school himself, so he knew for a fact that people don't exaggerate. "I would disagree with that."
"You're a doctor?" she figured out.
He nodded. "Surgeon," he specified.
"What specialty?"
Was she actually interested in talking about him? Never, not once in his life, had a woman been interested in talking with him about something not related to sex.
"Plastics. And I'm an ENT." he bragged a little.
"Even double-board certified, I'm impressed." she said with a flirty undertone. He smirked at her.
Then, Joe handed her a glass of what looked like tequila. "Thanks," she told him, and downed the liquid in one big swallow.
She put the glass back down on the counter with a noise, and noticed Mark's eyes on her. "Woah" he commented.
"I have a photographic memory, and I really just want to forget about this day. That's going to take a lot of alcohol." she explained.
He chuckled, but made a mental note to watch that she wouldn't drink too much or do anything stupid like try driving or something. He didn't know why, but he wanted to make sure she got home safe tonight.
"So, you wanna go have sex somewhere?" she suddenly asked him frankly.
He stared at her, trying not to widen his eyes at her directness.
"You're drunk," he told her. He wanted to sleep with her, he really, really wanted to, but he always made sure a woman he picked up in a bar wasn't too drunk because they often didn't even know what they were doing anymore.
"Not too drunk," she assured him as she slowly moved her face closer to his.
"I..." Mark wanted to do the right thing, he should've called her a cab home or whatever, but she was so hard to resist, and the fact that he did in fact want to have sex with her made it even harder.
She looked down at his lips, back into his eyes, then she painfully slowly kissed him, one hand on his cheek, the other on his thigh, dangerously close to his growing errection.
How could he say no to that? His body simply overpowered his mind.
When she pulled away from him, she softly bit his lip before removing herself completely. Then, she got up from her stool and whispered into his ear "Outside. Now." in a demanding tone.
She made her way outside, and Mark was quick to follow her. His brain suddenly wasn't functioning anymore. Before he left, he put some money down on the counter to pay for their drinks.
As soon as he was outside, Lexie pulled him to the side and pressed him against a wall, while she started kissing him.
But he stopped her. "Wait. I'm staying at the Archfield down the street, I think a room would be more comfortable."
He did have a point. She nodded agreeing.
So they went to the huge building down the street as fast as they could, they couldn't wait any longer to rip the other one's clothes off.
As they got into the elevator, Lexie saw that Mark pressed the button for the twenty-second floor.
She didn't have enough self-control left to wait that long, so she started kissing him again. With one smooth move, she jumped up and wrapped her legs around his waist. He supported her with one hand under her, the other on her back holding her tightly against his body.
The time flew by faster like this. Before they even realized, the elevator had started moving and a dinging sound appeared. They had arrived at the right floor.
Mark's hotel room was close to the elevator, so he just carried her in their position. While they made their way over to the room, he had simultaneously fumbled his key card from out of his pocket.
The door closed as quickly behind them as they had opened it. And once they were in, there was nothing stopping them anymore.
Mark moved over to a wall and pressed her back against it, while they continued kissing. At this point their tongues were fighting wildly.
Lexie pulled his shirt over his head and tossed it aside. She couldn't see them because her eyes were closed as they couldn't bear to disconnect their lips, but as she ran her hands over his chest, she felt his muscles. God, she really wanted to take a proper look at him.
As if he knew what she was planning to do, he moved them an inch away from the wall so that she could remove her sweatshirt as well.
Then he went over to the bed and laid her down on her back. Lexie supported herself on her elbows and looked at him longingly as she took in his full presence. He looked even better than it had felt like.
Mark did the same thing, he eyed her up and down thoroughly. She was gorgeous. And her black lace bra emphasized her well-shaped breasts perfectly.
She watched him unbuckle his belt and remove his jeans in the most sexy way possible. Then, he crawled on top of her and started kissing her neck and slowly went down to her breasts, over her stomach, and just across the hem of her skirt.
With a fast move behind her back, he unzipped the black skirt and threw it on the floor. Before she was able to catch up, her panties were gone as well, and suddenly she felt his tongue going in circles down there.
Positively surprised, she threw her head back in enjoyment. He kept going in circles for a bit, hitting the exact right spots at exactly the right timing.
And without a warning, he inserted his tongue into her and tilted it around, causing her to grab onto the sheets. "Oh god... yes!" she moaned.
Mark could tell that she was close to coming, so he pulled his tongue out and moved himself up. He positioned himself on her and entered her smoothly, a loud moan escaping her mouth.
He started thrusting into her, slowly increasing his pace. Lexie wanted to scream his name because she felt so incredible. He was so good at what he was doing.
She placed her hands on his neck and pulled him down, causing his cock to go even deeper, reaching places inside of her she had never felt before. "Oh god!" she screamed, unable to contain herself.
"Holy shit!" Mark shouted as she pulled him down. He could've let himself go already, but he wanted her to enjoy this. Sure, he needed a distraction, but she needed it more.
It didn't take long though, till she reached her climax. He felt the muscles inside her tighten around his throbbing cock. And she relaxed herself, as she just savoured the indescribable feeling.
After a moment, Mark pulled out of her and fell next to her on the bed, exhausted, but happily exhausted.
Lexie was feeling almost sober again, maybe because she had sweated all the alcohol out.
Silence fell between them as they both had to get back into reality. Mark had more experience than anyone, but what just happened made him feel something he never experienced before.
"That was incredible." Lexie panted, as she regained some of her breath.
"Yeah," he agreed.
Lexie walked into the locker room at Seattle Grace, feeling like crap because of the amount of alcohol and the lack of sleep she had last night. The fact that her mother was still dead made her feel even worse.
She had grabbed a coffee on her way here, already being late, after having overslept because she didn't sleep at home where she had set her alarm.
Lexie woke up to the sound of an alarm, not her alarm though. She felt a massive headache before she even opened her eyes. She should've stopped after her third Tequila.
The memories of last night came to her mind as she felt a muscular arm wrapped around her waist.
Shit. She stayed at his hotel room.
She usually wasn't a one-night stand girl, but she knew that you weren't supposed to stay there till the morning. In movies, the woman always snuck out some time in the night.
He hadn't moved yet, so maybe it wasn't too late. She carefully wiggled herself out of his grip, so he wouldn't wake up, and stood up to search for her clothes.
Mark had woken up from his alarm, but he didn't want to get up yet. When he felt her moving, he couldn't help but grin at her attempts to free herself from his arm. He actually tightened his grip, not wanting her to leave, but ultimately she did succeed.
It was weird to wake up with her still there, the women he usually picked up in bars never stayed till the morning. But then again, he had already known that she was different.
He groaned as he stretched himself, making her know that he was awake.
"What are you doing?" he chuckled when he saw her searching for her clothes, trying to cover herself with what looked like his shirt so she wouldn't be walking around completely naked. It looked ridiculous because it wasn't really doing anything and he had a very good view of her ass as she bowed down to pick up her skirt from the ground. Still, he had to admit that she looked cute.
"I-uh... I'm trying to find my clothes. I gotta hurry, because my first day started two minutes ago." she whined while she put her clothes on. Great. She was already late for her first day of internship. She knew that interns were at the bottom of the surgical food chain and this would make her even less likeable.
"Thank you for letting me stay the night. And it was really amazing, you know. But I really have to go now." she rambled, leaving him no chance to say anything.
And before he could reply, she was already out the door and it closed behind her.
"Damn, that was fast." he chuckled to himself.
Lexie was relieved to find a pair of light blue scrubs in her size left, so she put them on, while simultaneously putting her hair up in a ponytail. She was actually relieved that the other interns weren't in the locker room anymore, since she didn't have time to drive back home and change her clothes.
She hurried out the door and found her assigned resident, Dr. Cristina Yang in the main hall, giving her fellow interns the introductory speech.
She prayed that she didn't catch any attention when she sneaked into the small group.
"Hey! You! Where have you been?" her resident called her out. Damn it.
"Me?" Lexie played innocent. Suddenly all eyes were on her and she wanted the Earth to swallow her up.
"You can't be late. That's not how this works." Dr. Yang warned, and Lexie just nodded quickly.
Then, they were all introduced to the other residents. When Dr. Webber introduced Dr. Meredith Grey, she felt a knot in her stomach. She was looking forward to meeting her sister, but by the way this day had been going so far, she feared she would mess that up as well.
She decided to maybe talk to her later if there was an opportunity given. Now would be the worst timing ever.
After the interns were given all the basic information, the day would now start normally. They would be with the attending that their resident was assigned to for the day.
She didn't really pay attention to what Cristina was saying, as she was still fighting her headache.
When they met the attending, Lexie stopped breathing for a second as she saw the man. "Crap," she said a little too loudly. The other interns all tuned around to look at her and suddenly Mark was starring into her eyes as well, muttering something under his breath.
He kept his cool better than her, though, and quickly cleared his throat to tell everyone about the case they would be working on today.
Lexie swallowed hard. She could've picked up on him working at Seattle Grace. They had very briefly talked about their professions, and she could've easily figured that he was a surgeon here.
Dr. Yang seemed to have picked up on her weird behavior. "Don't even think about it. Sleeping with your boss isn't going to make you gain popularity points." she advised her.
Little did she know it was too late for that.
A while later, they all had a little gap before the surgery, and Mark pulled Lexie aside into an on-call room.
"You didn't tell me you were going to do your internship at Seattle Grace!" he said, upset.
"You didn't say that you were working here!" she replied, just as agitated. This was a disaster.
"And you didn't mention that you were Meredith Grey's little sister! Derek's gonna kill me." He ran a hand over his face at the thought. Derek was still pissed enough about Addison, but this couldn't mean peace between them.
"Meredith doesn't even know that I exist. And I didn't know about her until like two weeks ago." Lexie argued. She was all excited to learn that she had a half-sister and to meet her, but the more this day progressed, the more nervous she got about messing it up.
"You haven't talked to her yet?" Mark asked. For some reason, he found himself caring.
Lexie looked down, avoiding eye contact, and bit her lip nervously as she mumbled "No."
"Why not?"
She sighed. "This day only gets worse and worse. And if I go tell her now, I'll probably do something else to screw it up, and she won't want to have anything to do with me!"
Mark worried that she was right, not about the fact that she might mess it up, but he knew Meredith and he knew that she wasn't a family person, and probably wouldn't be so thrilled to find out she has half-sister who is going to hang around in her life. He didn't want Lexie to get hurt by her coldness.
He softly laid a hand on her shoulder, "Listen, Meredith might react differently than you'd want her to. But not because of you. She's kind of a hard nut to crack."
She looked up at him, meeting his gaze, and they got lost in each other's eyes for a solid moment. Until Mark's pager interrupted them. It was about their patient. Lexie followed him because she was supposed to be there anyway.
"Where were you again?" Dr. Yang barked immediately.
Before she had a chance to excuse herself, Mark stepped in. "I needed an intern for some paperwork, so I borrowed her. You got a problem with that, Yang?" He didn't like the way Cristina talked to Lexie. Even though it was usually the way residents and attendings, him included, ordered interns around. But there was something about Lexie that made him act in her favour.
She gave him a discreet smile, while Cristina shot him an annoyed look. "No, of course not, Dr. Sloan."
"Now, let's discuss the patient." He turned his attention back to the case. However, his eyes kept sneaking looks at Lexie while he was talking. He just couldn't help it. She was still as magnetic to him as she had been when he first saw her last night.
At lunchtime, Lexie found her way to the cafeteria, feeling lost as she looked around, seeing all the full tables.
She had zero friends here. She hadn't even planned to do her internship here. Originally, she wanted to go to Mass General, but then her mother died and she decided it would be better to be closer to her family. Learning that her surprise half-sister was a resident at the same hospital as well, was only the cherry on top.
But that also left her all alone now, she hadn't talked to anyone. She knew no one.
Well, except Mark. She knew him a little too well actually, or at least she had explored every part of his body last night and then they had talked for hours.
Lexie fell back onto the bed, still catching her breath, with a huge smile planted on her lips.
Mark let out an excited sound she couldn't really define, "You can do wonders with that mouth." he was amazed.
She chuckled, She had done this like two times before, so she had been a little nervous to not do it right, but apparently she had done a pretty good job. "After what you did with your tongue, I thought I had to return the pleasure."
"No kidding." He turned onto his side and captured her lips in a long, passionate kiss. He used one hand to support himself, and the other went up to her cheek.
They pulled apart when the need for air became too strong.
"Thank you," Lexie suddenly said, her eyes still closed, leaning into his touch.
Mark tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear. "What for?"
"For making me forget," she replied, barely above a whisper.
He opened his eyes and pulled back from her just a little so he could look at her. He knew what she was talking about. She had told him at the bar that she was drinking to forget about the day, and that her mother wasn't there anymore. But the fact that he could help her with that when not even the alcohol couldn't, made him smile internally.
"If you want to talk about it, I'd listen." he offered. And he couldn't even believe his own words as they came over his lips. Since when did he want to talk rather than have another round of sex while a woman that attractive was lying next to him naked?
Lexie pursed her lips, "Isn't that weird?" she asked, uncertain. "Loading my problems onto you when basically all we know about each other is how we look naked?" she added for clarification.
"My mother died when I was ten, so I might understand." He couldn't believe that he had told her that. He never talked about his mother, never, not even with Derek.
"Oh, I'm sorry." she frowned.
"It's okay, that was a long time ago." he assured her. "I can understand what you are going through right now." He looked up to meet her eyes.
She didn't plan on dealing with her mother's death, and most certainly not tonight. But something in his eyes gave her the comfort and strength to reflect on today's events.
She nodded slightly, and his hand travelled down her shoulder, over her arm and came to a rest on her hip.
"I just don't think it's fair," she started, trying to put her feelings into words. "I mean, she died from the freaking hiccups. What is the survival rate for that? 100 percent?"
She sighed, only now noticing how angry and frustrated she actually was with the whole situation.
"Don't focus on the medical stuff. Tell me what she was like." Mark gave her some help. He had no idea how to comfort a person, but somehow the right things just came out of him.
Lexie thought about her mother for a second, recalling a couple of memories she had with her, and smiled.
"She was the sweetest person. No one has ever said something bad about her because there is no way to hate that woman. And her smile, her laugh, it's contagious. When I was little and sad about something, she used to make me look at her and then she'd just start laughing. And after a few seconds, it's impossible not to laugh with her. And when I was hurt, she used to stroke my hair, and she always told me that her mother did it to her too. She was the best mom any daughter could ever wish for."
Mark smiled. She did sound like an amazing person, and now he felt even sadder that Lexie had lost her so soon. "She does sound lovely."
She nodded in agreement, "Yeah."
Lexie spotted Mark sitting at a table with a Latina and a blonde, and she couldn't help but wonder about their relationship.
When she had been looking at him for a second too long, completely in her thoughts, his bright blue eyes were suddenly staring right back at her.
She felt her cheeks flush hot and quickly looked away. Then, she turned around and left in embarrassment. He probably thought she was pathetic. She should know that she was just a one-night stand for him, nothing more. Just because last night meant more to her than it did to him doesn't mean he felt the same way.
She walked through the halls confidently. She had seen a plan of the building somewhere earlier, and thanks to her photographic memory she now knew exactly where to find it.
She was on her way to the skills lab, hoping to practice her sutures, when she overheard Mark's name in a conversation among a few interns standing at a counter.
She stopped in her tracks and dropped it unnoticed.
"Dr. Sloan is insanely hot," one woman said.
"I heard that they call him McSteamy." another one said.
"I heard that he's a sex god," a third one added.
The first one sighed defeated. "I would totally ride that horse if I had the chance to."
"You might do, Amanda. I heard that he has slept his way all around the hospital. He probably won't say no to an intern." The third woman told her, and all three giggled like they were still high school girls.
Lexie shuddered at their words and took up her pace again. Of course, the guy she had slept with last night was the golden boy of the hospital where she is now an intern. And as she recalled the events of the previous night, it all made sense. He had picked her up in a bar and took her to his hotel room like he did that every night. And that was probably the case. She was just the Tuesday girl for him.
But then there was the way that they had talked with each other. There was just no way that he did that with every woman he slept with.
"What about your mom?" Lexie asked, her hand resting on his bare chest, tracing her fingers across his muscles. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to. I just thought that you listened to me, so I could do the same for you. But you don't have to." she clarified, worrying that she overstepped.
"No, it's fine." Normally, whenever Mark thought about his mother, a lump formed in his throat, making it impossible for him to talk about it. But it felt so natural with Lexie that the words flowed easily.
His mother was a complex topic. He had mixed, complicated feelings about her that he was sure no one could understand. Lexie wouldn't be able to empathize with them either, but he just knew that she wouldn't judge him for it.
"I don't remember much about her. My parents were always away and never really cared to parent. I never really understood why they decided to have me in the first place if they didn't want to stick around. They were always travelling or at some conference, some meeting, and I grew up basically living with the family of my best friend. He's the closest thing I have to a brother. But, the times my parents were home, even if it wasn't often, my mom was actually a mother, if that makes sense. She made me breakfast, packed me lunch, woke me up in the morning and tucked me into bed in the evening. So I loved her still, despite her constant absence. And when she died, I didn't know what I was supposed to feel. Sure, I was sad and cried for days, but I also knew that I wouldn't even really notice that she was gone. Because she had been barely there to begin with." he confessed. "I don't know if that makes me a bad person, feeling like that, but it's the truth."
He took a deep breath, becoming aware of her hand on his chest again, as it rose with it.
He had made a promise to himself when he was younger that he would never tell anyone how he truly felt about his mother, fearing he'd look like a sociopath or something.
But as he looked up at Lexie, and met her eyes, he wasn't met with judgement or a lack of understanding, but with empathy and compassion. She didn't think he was crazy.
He hadn't even told Derek this, knowing he wouldn't understand. His best friend has lost his father due to a shooting, and the man was the best dad a son could wish for. He would never get it.
"It doesn't make you a bad person," Lexie assured him, her voice calm and steady as she sternly looked into his eyes.
Lexie had spent her lunch break in the skills lab practicing her sutures. As she had expected, no one else had come there because none of the other interns knew their way around the hospital yet.
The pager she had been given earlier suddenly beeped, and she looked at the clock, realizing that she had to be at the pre-ops for the surgery right about now.
"Shit," she cursed. She quickly gathered her stuff together and rushed to where she had to be.
When she entered the room, Mark's eyes met hers immediately. She looked away. For some reason, she was pissed at him. Probably because of what she overheard earlier about him sleeping with everything that moves. It felt different the previous night for some reason.
"Dr. Grey," Mark's voice called her name, pulling her out of her thoughts. "You'll be scrubbing in with me and Dr. Yang." he added.
Lexie looked at him surprised. She had not expected to be selected as the intern to assist, or perhaps rather just observe given that it was her first day after all, for the surgery.
She heard a few annoyed sighs behind her from her fellow interns and a couple of comments about how he just chose her because she's attractive, and he wants to get her into bed or something. 'Already happened.' she thought.
Mark seemed to have picked up one of the comments, since he felt the need to justify his choice. "Since some of you are questioning how I made this choice without having seen any of you in action, I will explain it to you. It is true that none of you really had a chance to show me your talent yet, Dr. Grey has been practicing in the skills lab earlier while the rest of you were gossiping over lunch. I hope that clarifies things for you." With a smart grin, he went out the door first, Cristina and Lexie following after him, to prepare for the surgery.
Lexie was deep in her thoughts, trying to figure out why he knew what she had been doing during the break. Had he followed her after they had seen each other in the cafeteria? Was he stalking her now? Why bother if she was just a one-night stand girl to him? And more importantly, if he had watched her in the skills lab, why didn't he come in or say something?
She was ripped out of her thoughts when she almost bumped into him as he came to a stop before the scrub room door to open it. He held back a laugh, then opened the door for her and closing it after they were both inside.
Lexie suddenly noticed that her resident wasn't with them anymore, so she looked around searching for him in confusion. "Where did Dr. Yang go?"
Mark chuckled, a nonchalant smile on his lips as he asked "Are you always that absent-minded or is it just a symptom of sleep deprivation?"
She looked at him dumbfounded, trying to come up with an answer. Him bringing up that she was sleep deprived brought back the fact that last night had actually happened. That he knew she was sleep deprived, because they had spent the whole night talking and doing other stuff. And he didn't seem to completely ignore that it happened.
"Yang was paged from Dr. Bailey. She'll scrub in a little later." Mark told her, realizing she wouldn't say anything to his question. She nodded, clearly not having registered that whole conversation.
He shook his head, having to suppress a smile because he somehow found it adorable how lost she looked. It was still weird for him that she caused those kinds of feelings in him, but he was slowly getting used to them.
After yet another round of sex, Mark and Lexie both fell onto the bed exhausted. He turned his head to look over at her. She was sweaty and her hair was a mess; still, he couldn't pull his eyes off of her.
Once she noticed that his gaze was fixated on her, she looked at him too and their eyes met. They got lost in a deep brown-and-blue stare, when suddenly Lexie's stomach made a loud growling noise.
She immediately looked away, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Oh god" she mumbled into her hands, burying her face in them.
He chuckled. God, how does she manage to be this adorable when she wasn't even doing anything of the sort? "We can order room service if you're hungry. I could actually use some food too after all that cardio." he offered.
Lexie nodded, slowly putting her hands down, hoping that her face wasn't bright red anymore.
"What do you want? Something sweet? Pancakes or fruit? Or savory? The omelette is fantastic." Mark listed up some options for her.
"I'm allergic to eggs, so not the omelette." she remarked.
"Noted," he replied, thinking of something else she might like. He could've just gotten the menu from the table, but he was too lazy to leave the comfortable warmth of the bed and he knew most of the dishes by heart anyway, given his long stay at the hotel already.
She couldn't stop thinking about what he meant with 'noted,' that usually indicated that one wanted to remember something. But if they were only together for one night, they wouldn't eat together again. So why would he want to remember her stupid little egg allergy?
"How about burgers and fries?" he snapped her out of her thoughts.
That did sound delicious. "Definitely," he nodded, then picked up the phone from his nightstand and ordered two burgers and a large portion of fries for them.
It took about fifteen minutes till there was a knock on the door, since it was the middle of the night and it was most likely not busy in the kitchen.
Mark put on a pair of boxers, before he went to open the door, and gave Lexie his shirt to put on. It was about ten sizes too big for her, making her look absolutely adorable.
When he came back, she was already awaiting the food with a hungry look on her face, basically ripping it out of his hands before he even had the chance to put it down.
The flutter in his stomach was back as he watched her, making him question if it was maybe just her in general and not the things she did that were captivating.
Lexie was quick to take a first bite of her burger, and let out a satisfied moan as she enjoyed the food filling her empty stomach. She hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast because of the funeral, her father's behavior needing to be taken care of and all.
"Should I be offended that just thirty minutes ago you made that sound because of what I was doing with my tongue down there?" he questioned, jokingly.
She looked at him, pulling her attention away from the delicious burger in her hands, and told him frankly "Oh, no those were both sounds of pure satisfaction."
They both laughed at her choice of words and continued eating their meal, as they kept casually talking, feeling so naturally comfortable with each other as if they had been friends for years.
During the surgery, Mark and Lexie hadn't talked more than necessary. There was still that furious feeling towards him lingering in the back of her mind, because she couldn't wrap her head around if he was just playing with her or not.
Everything went just as planned, and he even let her do a suture herself. Afterwards, they scrubbed out, and Lexie basically rushed away before he had a chance to talk to her.
To her dismay, he followed her, catching up with her rather quickly because his legs were longer than hers, making him a faster walker.
"Dr. Grey, wait up!" he called out once he was close enough. But she didn't want to talk to him right now, so she refused to turn around.
When they passed an on-call room, Mark pushed her inside. If she was ignoring him, he had to know why, even if he had to raise a couple of suspicious eyes on them doing so.
"Lexie," he tried again, addressing her by her first name now that they were alone. "Why are you avoiding me?" he asked right away. He wasn't the kind of person to dance around his words. He simply spat out whatever was on his mind.
She sighed, "Because I don't want to talk to you." she replied in a duh tone.
He shot her a look. That wasn't what he meant. "Yeah, I got that. But why?"
She was avoiding his eyes and somehow he found himself longing to get lost in the deep brown of hers again, like he had so often last night, so he brought her chin up gently, using only two fingers, to face him.
With those bright blue orbs staring directly at her, it was hard to resist him any longer. "I... I need to ask you something." she stuttered. If she read it all wrong, if he wasn't giving her any signals and she was seriously just delusional after all, she was sure she'd make a run for it quickly.
"Okay." he said, interested. He seemed actually willing to want to fix whatever he had thought he'd done wrong.
That thought gave Lexie the little push she needed to gain courage. "What was last night for you? Because I've heard some stuff from people here about you and the fact that we met in a bar on Tuesday night, and you had no problem taking me to your hotel room just seems like it was a random one-night stand for you." She took a quick breath only so he couldn't say anything before she was done. "And that's okay. I mean, I was the one who practically jumped you. But, uh, it didn't feel like a one-night stand to me. Not that I have those often; I had five or six in my life but -"
Her nervous rambling was interrupted when he pulled her closer and captured her lips in a deep kiss. It wasn't rushed or too passionate, instead it was slow and full of emotion.
They pulled apart slowly after some time, and his hands traveled to hers, taking ahold of them. Lexie didn't open her eyes yet, still feeling shocked by what just happened. They had kissed about a dozen times last night but this one was different somehow.
"I know my reputation's not the best, and I won't deny anything because it's true. I've done some things that I'm not really proud of." Mark started, making her slowly open her eyes again to look at him. "I'm the guy you probably painted in your mind, the ass who sleeps with a different woman every night and never calls any of them back." He paused, just waiting for her to make a run for it as she realized who she had actually spent the night with. But she didn't, she stood in her place, her expression not one of judgement or regret, but somewhat a hint of confusion.
Lexie had a hard time picturing him as the guy he claimed to be. The way they had talked and how he was treating her, those weren't the actions of a male whore, to phrase it factly.
"But when I first saw you at the bar last night, I could already tell there was something different about you." He stroked a few strands of her hair behind her ear, gently caressing her cheek. Her big chocolate brown eyes were looking at him hopefully, making him weak and suddenly unable to come up with the right thing to say. He was Mark Sloan, a woman had never made him so nervous that he was left speechless. "I guess what I'm trying to say is... I'm not the type of guy who talks about feelings, cuddles in the morning, least of all talks or orders room service in the middle of the night."
She chuckled, remembering all those things. They had done all those things, even though he didn't usually. That had to mean something. "So what does that mean?" she questioned softly.
"That last night, you weren't a one-night stand." he told her, offering her a lovely smile, as his hand came back to rest on her waist with the other one, holding her in a gentle but tight grip close to his body.
"So, you're not just going to seduce the next best intern tonight?" she asked, a tone of joking in her voice.
He scoffed, acting offended and argued "Oh, please, you seduced me." Lexie laughed, thinking about how he was right. The memories of how she had behaved when she was drunk last night cause a slight blush on her cheeks.
"And no, I was actually planning on asking you out for a drink tonight." he added.
Lexie gave up in trying to suppress her blushing, as it returned alongside the flutter in her stomach at his question. "Yes, I would very much like to have a drink with you."
They smiled at each other and leaned in, pressing their lips together again. This time the kiss was followed by more, and they became more passionate and heated. Not parting their lips, they just moved towards the bed, after Mark had quickly locked the door, starting to get rid of their scrubs. They were both so glad they were in an on-call room right now, because they wouldn't have been able to hold that back until the end of the day.
