1. Covenant Empire

The Covenant Empire:

The Covenant, also referred to as the Covenant Empire or Covenant Hegemony, is a massive religious hegemony of multiple alien species that has controlled a large portion of the Orion Arm and neighboring territories in the Milky Way Galaxy for several thousand years. Originally a mutual alliance between the San'Shyuum and the Sangheili, the Covenant expanded to include several other species, including but not limited to the Huragok, Mgalekgolo, Unggoy, Kig-Yar, Yanme'e, and Jiralhanae, united in the worship of the mythical Forerunners and the Halo Array.

The Covenant was formed in 852 B.C., which they refer to as the First Age of Reconciliation. The Empire is one of two great powers within the Milky Way Galaxy. The Covenant Empire is very technologically advanced due to their possession of numerous Forerunner artifacts and are rivaled only by the Goa'uld Empire in terms of power and influence.

The Covenant enforce a strict caste system with the San'Shyuum, otherwise known as the Prophets, maintaining the primary leadership role, while the Sangheili, who are ultimately subordinate to the San'Shyuum, maintain total control over military affairs and make up the majority of military commanders. The other main races are the Huragok, the Mgalekgolo, the Unggoy, the Kig-Yar, the Yanme's, and the Jiralhanae. While there are other lesser known races, many of these are shrouded in mystery, with some either being hidden away to serve as either a secret weapon for the San'Shyuum Hierarchs, or their whereabouts are so well hidden that only a select few of the Covenant's leadership even know where to find them, or others that are simply to low in numbers and power to wield any substantial influence within the Covenant itself. These lesser races of the Covenant include (but are not limited to): the Sharquoi, the Dazreme, and the Yonhet.

The Covenant Empire is distrusting of the technologies of other races, downright declaring items such as the stargates and hyperdrives as heretical, often seeking to destroy gates upon their discovery.
