A\N: This McHart oneshot is set after the credits roll on 1x10 of The Good Fight when Diane and Kurt stay at his place. I'm loving The Good Fight so far though I wished it had more McHart scenes. I know I said I needed to get some of my drafts out of the way but after watching 1x10 and deciding that there wasn't enough MvHart fluff in it, I couldn't let it go, enjoy, Angels.

The fire is the only sound in the cabin, the crackling of the logs being lapped up by the orange flames fill the silence they've found themselves in. Diane sits on the sofa, her legs tucked underneath her as she keeps her eyes on the orange flames currently devouring the pieces of wood. She can't look at her husband, if he can even be called that anymore, without picturing him dead on the hospital bed, just like Will was 3 years earlier.

When she arrived at Harbour Hospital, all she could imagine was getting the news her husband was dead, she knew she was imagining Will's legs, one shoe on, one shoe off, like three years ago. When she heard her husband say her name, she shook her head and suddenly she could breathe again.

She wanted to throw her phone at the wall when it went off but she couldn't, and Kurt knew, understood that she had to go, and he had let her go with a squeeze of her hand and a flicker of his lips.

When he first invited her to stay the night, she had decided against it before she saw the look in his eyes. She saw the hurt in his eyes, so she decided to stay. Despite his cheating, and keeping it from her, she didn't like seeing him hurt.

"Diane? Are you okay?" Her husband asks her, these are the first words he's spoken in a half hour since he lit the fire. She drags her eyes away from the fire and looks at her husband.

"I'm fine." She lies to him. Kurt looks at her, his eyes narrowing at her lie.

"Oh come on, Diane, don't lie to me: I saw your face when you saw me and in the car, you're not okay." Kurt replies. Diane just shakes her head.

"Of course I'm not alright!" She snaps, grabbing her wine glass off the coffee table and taking a large sip, holding it in her hand. "You were in a car accident, I didn't even know if you were alive until I got to the hospital. Do you know what was going through my head as I was driving to the hospital? Do you know what I kept imagining? Do you know that I kept picturing that you were dead? That I had to identify your body, just like I did Will?" She fires at him. Kurt sighs and reaches over to take the hand that isn't holding her wine glass.

"I'm sorry I put you through that." Kurt says, squeezing her hand. Diane scoffs. "If you're sorry, don't do it again." Is all she says, ripping her hand from his. Kurt sighs. "Alright, come here." He opens his arms. She places her wine glass back on the coffee table and reluctantly goes into his arms, resting her head on his chest gently. Kurt kisses her hair.

"Are you okay, Kurt?" She asks. Kurt nods.

"I'm fine, Diane, the painkillers are doing their job." He reassures her, Diane only exhales softly, the day starting to catch up to her.

"Sleep, Diane, I'm not going anywhere, I love you." Kurt says quietly.

With the fire dying down to embers, her husbands arms around her, safe and sound, and his second "I love you" of the night, Diane Lockhart falls into a light slumber, knowing her cowboy is alive.
