Chapter 1
Usagi and the whole family were preparing dinner.
"Usagi, I heard Mamoru is coming back soon from America." Ikuko, her mother said, cleaning the table.
"Yes, Mom. He graduated from his university."
"Studies, what he is currently studying now?"
"He is studying literature right now, and he told me sometimes he wrote some short stories in his free time."
"Short stories? Like showing to his friends?"
"Sort of, Mom. Literature is a really complicated subject as it requires a lot of skills, including the vocabulary, phrases and the logic."
"How was he doing though? We haven't heard from him a long time." Kenji asked.
"I need to ask Mamo-chan first."
And a few hours later, Mamoru got back from their house as he hung his jacket near the hook of the door.
"I'm back everyone!"
"Mamo-chan! I miss you so much!" Usagi said as she hugged him.
"Usagi, I finally graduated from studies, all hard work pays off."
"Congratulations Mamo-chan."
"I also miss the food that you cook, Ikuko san."
"Dinner is served, everyone!" Ikuko said.
The five of them sat at the table and ate.
Shingo is the first one to eat the food.
"Shingo, slow down for a moment." Ikuko said as she pointed a chopstick to him.
"But, Mom. The food is delicious!" Shingo said with a mouthful of rice.
"But still, you have to slow down, Shingo."
A few seconds later, Shingo choked on the rice.
"See, I told you." Usagi said.
"Drink some water first." Kenji said.
A few minutes later, Mamoru spoke.
"Ikuko san, you know I missed your food so much. The rice has a nice temperature, and the chicken itself is well-cooked, the cabbage has a nice flavour."
"Thanks for the compliment, Mamoru. It's nice of you."
"So how's life in America, the weather over there is unstable, Are you be able to get over it?"
"I'm very aware of the weather, and I can handle it despite the unstable weather in America."
"How about the food over there?"
"Well, the food in America are deep fried and too oily, to maintain my health ,I bought a lot of vegetables and bought some meat. But I remember the pies over there were so tasty, especially shepherd's pie. It's the first day when I got to the dormitory in the university, it was almost midnight. One of the staff saw me, he gave me a free shepherd's pie for dinner." Mamoru said as he stared up the ceiling, recalling this moment.
"How does shepherd's pie taste like?" Usagi asked.
"It tastes like lamb. When I ate this pie, it was tasty. But of course, there were other pies I tasted."
"Speaking of pies, I remember Shingo ate one of the pies in the bakery. Do you remember the taste?" Ikuko asked.
"It's sweet and it was well-baked" Shingo replied.
"About pies, I also tried other pies, besides shepherd's pies. I tried some fruit pies; Probably these days, The schoolwork got piled up and I rarely have much time and eat these pies."
"You can go out in weekends though." Kenji said.
"But these days I usually go out to work out. I need to maintain my body shape."
"I see. No wonder I saw you get more muscular than before."
"I kind of miss the taste of the pies, I wish one day I could have a chance to eat these pies again."
"Japan also have these pies though, I can buy it for you."
Usagi is wondering if she could make some pies for him to eat.
"What are you thinking, Usagi?" Ikuko asked.
"Oh, nothing."
"But Ikuko, the newspaper said the prices of the pies increased, look."
Ikuko put down her chopsticks as she stared at it.
"Oh my, it's too expensive! Then Mamoru won't even have a chance to eat it!"
"No worries, Ikuko san. I don't mind for not having pies now."
"Would you go to anywhere else?"
"Not now. I'm really tired, these days I'm going to stay here and take a rest, until I have the energy that I could visit my friends."
"You can visit Motoki then!" Usagi said.
"Usako, I would make a call to him later. But still, thanks for the suggestion."
"Thanks, Mamo-chan."
After dinner, Mamoru went up to Usagi's bedroom as he slept.
"These days, I haven't put much effort on Mamo-chan, Is there anything I can do for him?" Usagi thought as she stared at him sleeping in her bedroom. "I got to think of something to make him happy."
