After dropping off my dress at the lab, I headed towards George's house where Doc said Marty had gone to. When I got there, Marty and George were out on the lawn hanging up laundry.
"I still don't get how I'm supposed to ask Lorraine out to the dance if she's already going with you." George asked.
"Because George, she wants to go with you. She's just too shy to admit it." Marty said helping George carry the laundry.
"But how exactly am I going to do this?"
"I know," I said. Both of them turned to look at me.
"Hey, Abs. Got your dress already?" Marty asked.
"You should already know considering you were spying on me," I snapped.
"Spying on you? I've been with George the whole time," he said.
"Yeah, okay. At least you changed out of your conspicuous spy outfit," I said.
"Look can you just tell us what you want?" Marty asked.
"I got some info on how George can get Lorraine to go out with him," I said.
"How? It'll take a miracle for Lorraine to go out with a man like me," George said.
"Not if you can stand up for yourself and protect her from harm. She said that she really admires how Marty can stand up for himself and protect those in need. He pushed you out of the way from getting hit? Love. He stood up to Biff and his gang at the diner? Even more love."
"That's brilliant Abs. So, I'll take her to the dance like normal, then I'll start making some moves on her…"
"Oh no! Absolutely not! You are not doing anything dirty or inappropriate to her!" George warned.
"Relax, I won't get the chance to because of a certain strong teen who's gonna come save her. She'll be done with me, smitten with you, and then you two can live happily ever after," Marty said.
"Okay. But who's going to be the one to come and save her from you?" George asked. Marty and I just gave him a look. George just groaned.
"Let's plan for around 9:00pm when you come over to the car where Lorraine and me will be. You see us struggling in the car, then you open up the car door and then say…" Marty waited for a second.
"Yeah?" I said.
"George! Say something! You see me struggling to touch Lorraine when she doesn't want to. What are you going to say?" Marty asked.
"Get off of her," George said in a monotone voice.
"Come on dad…George. You gotta really mean it!" I said.
"And add 'damn' in your line. It'll put more emphasis on it," Marty added.
"Okay," George said. He took a deep breath then held out one finger in front of Marty. "Hey you! Get your damn hands off of her!" he said with a big dorky smile on his face.
"Much better," Marty said.
"But are you sure I should swear?" he asked.
"Absolutely. Dammit George, swear," Marty said. He then went over and grabbed George's hands to place them on the shoulder and side of his jacket. "Then you pull me out of the car, punch me in the gut, I'm down for the count, and then you two are free to dance the night away."
"Wow. You make is sound so easy. I just wish I wasn't so nervous," George admitted.
"Don't be nervous. You'll do great. Just imagine yourself as a leader in one of your stories. Your character might be scared out of his mind and shaking in his boots, but he still has to pick up his head and look confident. If the people around you believe that you are a confident person, then you'll be a good leader and can stand up for yourself just like Lorraine wants regardless of what you think of yourself," I said.
"That's right. And if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything," Marty added patting George's shoulder. "You've got this." George smiled and nodded nervously.

November 12th, 1955
At last, the fated day had arrived. Marty and I had spent our remaining days helping Doc with gathering and setting up the equipment he needed and adding some things to the Delorian. It was around 5:30 when Doc had dropped me off at Lorraine's house with my dress and curlers in my hair. The day before after school, Lorraine and I had put curlers in our hair for our hairstyles.
"Hey Linda, keep an eye on George inside for me and make sure that he doesn't back out," Marty chuckled. I rolled my eyes.
"Are you done laughing at me?" I asked and he laughed again.
"Okay, okay, I'm done," he said. "But seriously, keep an eye on George while you're there."
"That was the plan," I said.
"See you later, Linda," Marty said as he Doc drove off towards town. I sighed, but just ignored him as I walked up to the front door and knocked. I heard some running coming from inside and the front door opened to show Lorraine wearing a robe and curlers in her hair.
"Abby, you're finally here! Come on in!" she said ushering me in. She then grabbed my hand and we ran upstairs to her room giggling to her room. Inside, she had a record playing songs that I never even heard of that screamed the early 50s. At least it had some kind of beat. "Go ahead and use my spare robe so we can start on your makeup and finish your hair." I did as I was told and went behind the divider and took off my borrowed clothes. As I looked at myself, I noticed that my arm did not have as many scars on it. Many of them were in the final stages of healing.
"Huh," I muttered as I stared at myself without the marks. But when I looked deep into my blue eyes, I just saw Marty with longer hair again as the curls took away my normal long brown hair. "You won't look like him for long. You won't look like him for long,' I chanted to myself.
"Abby, come on!" Lorraine called from her room. I shook away my trance and put on the robe to meet back in the room. With that, the two of us started working on our makeup.
"I hope Calvin…uh Marty saves me a slow dance," she said dreamily.
"He's not really much of a dancer," I said.
"That's okay. I still hope that he'll at the very least kiss me tonight, but don't tell him I said that," she continued.
"Ugh," I gagged.
"What? Don't tell me you've never been kissed yet," she said.
"Nope, and I have no interest," I said.
"Aw come on. It's not so bad. That feeling that you get after you kiss someone is the most magical thing in the world. But I'm still waiting for how it'll feel when you really find the one. Maybe you should test it out with Benjamin," she teased.
"No! No no no!" I said and she started laughing.
"Suit yourself. But you'll change your mind soon enough," she promised.
"Sure," I said.
"No, I'm serious; especially with someone like Benjamin who can really dance like Mickey Rooney. Imagine what he can do on the dancefloor paired with your gymnastics. You two will be amazing and your feelings for each other will just soar!" It was then that I got butterflies just imagining me and Benjamin dancing together and would take all my fears and insecurities away. When we would be together, we'll be the only thing that matters. Maybe if I was lucky, I would just stop with my cutting!
"You're blushing so hard right now," Lorraine said and the two of us started laughing hysterically.
"I don't really know what it is Lorraine, but…it's really fun to talk to you. I feel like I can really talk to you about anything and have fun with you without worrying about you nagging or lecturing me like…my mother," I said.
"You're so beautiful and talented, Abby and don't let anyone tell you otherwise," she said and I smiled. "I think it's time our curlers out!" she said.
"Let's do it!" I said.
By the time I got all my curlers out. My entire hair stayed in a big curl and Lorraine put a while tulle flower-looking clip in my hair. "Perfect! Now it's time for the best part!" she said and went over to the back of her closed door to get her dress. Mine was currently on Lorraine's bed. I grabbed it and went to the bathroom again to change. I put on the dress and looked at me without the gloves. For one small moment regardless of the outdated hairstyle which felt more like wearing a Halloween costume, I didn't see a single inch of Marty. I actually looked beautiful similar to how I felt during gymnastics. It was all ruined however when I focused on my marks. It ruined the image I saw and I was forced to put on the gloves.
Break*Break*Break*Break*Break*Break*Break*Break*Break
About an hour later, Marty picked us up, and we arrived at the school right on schedule. "Abs, why don't you head in. I think Lorraine and I are going to…hang in here for a little while," Marty said. It took all my energy to hold in a gag.
"That's a great idea, Marty. I would love to park," Lorraine said.
"What?!" Marty and I both said.
"Come on, Marty. I'm almost eighteen years old. You two think I've never parked before?" she asked. My mouth was wide open. My brother and I exchanged glances before he motioned me out the door.
"Go on, Abs. We'll come inside in a little bit," Marty said.
"Alright," I said. He let me out of the car and I walked inside keeping my head down from Biff and his gang who were off to the side looking at what looked like dirty magazines while Biff was looking at a different kind of book with an awe expression. I quickly went inside before I was spotted. When I walked inside, everyone was in the gym dancing around to the smooth jazz that Marvin Barry and the Starlighters were playing on stage. There were green and blue balloons and several large conch shells decorations that lit up, a huge backdrop of seaweed, a few life-size corals again with lights, a few old diving suits, and a plastic swordfish at the top.
"Man, somebody paid no expenses for a random high school dance. No wonder mom always talked about this," I muttered to myself. I stood off to the side while everyone else looked like they were having a great time. I started playing with my gloves and ran my hand over my wrist.
'Why does Marty get to do everything and I'm just here keeping an eye on George? Yeah, it's really awkward, but I might as well not be here," I thought. All of a sudden, a familiar feeling came over me.
'No! Not now! You're not jealous. You can't be jealous. How dare you!' I thought. I looked down and noticed that I was subconsciously scratching at my wrist. "Stop it! Think of how much they've healed. You can handle this all on your own. I felt my heart race as I scratched harder and faster.
"Abby?" someone called out. I gasped and nearly screamed when I looked over and saw Benjamin looking at me in a black suit and bowtie. I instantly picked up on his cologne that he had on and instantly got major butterflies in my stomach. "Where have you been? I hardly seen you around," he said.
"Yeah, sorry. It's been a crazy couple of days for me," I admitted running a hand through my hair by my ear. "How have you been? I haven't seen you since…"
"Since my dad dragged me off? Yeah…not the first time and I honestly can still feel the old man's discipline techniques," he said rubbing his side. My face dropped at that.
"I'm sorry," I stuttered.
"Oh! Where are my manners? I didn't mean to talk about something that vulgar. Forgive me," he pleaded.
"Apology accepted," I said with a smile.
"Alright folks, we're gonna try something different here and we encourage you to as well. And if it doesn't work out, oh well," the main guitarist said. They started playing a slower jazz song but did have a beat to dance to.
"He recommended that we try something different. May I…May I have this dance?" he asked holding his hand out. My cheeks were on fire at this point and before I knew what I was doing, I took his hand and we walked towards the gym floor.
"I don't know if I stand a chance against someone who can really dance," I said.
"Don't worry about it. Just feel the music and follow me," he said. He grabbed my left hand and then reached for my hip and touched them and now my entire body got goosebumps. "This is okay, right?" I nodded as I gazed deeply into his gorgeous eyes. From there, I let him lead me as we began to dance. We started with raising our left arms up and down to the beat of the song. Then we noticed that a lot of other people were dancing swing style. "Do you want to try it?" he asked.
"No! I've never danced like that before in my life," I said.
"Come on! Just try it! I'll help you," he said.
"O-okay," I said hesitantly. Benjamin then grabbed my right hand with his own.
"We'll start off with just something easy. We're going to start off far apart, put don't let go of my hands," he said and we started off there. "Now we're going to come together and spin in a half circle. Basically, we're going to switch places and then do the same exact thing by pulling apart."
"What?" I questioned.
"Remember, just follow me," he said. We started off slow by being apart, coming together and spinning around to switch places where we were, and then come apart again all without releasing each other. "Good!" We continued that a few times before when we were apart, he released my right hand, and raised our left arm up high for me to spin around a few times. I started to laugh at this and we locked hands again and continued.
Shortly after, the music ended and all of us clapped for the band.
"Well folks, we're going to take a short break but we'll be back in a while. So don't anybody go nowhere," Marvin Barry said. With that, he and he band left.
"Well…that was a lot funner than I thought," I told him. "Thank you."
"It was my pleasure," he said. He then took my gloved hand again and brought it up to his lips to kiss. Just before his lips connected, I happened to glance over at the time. It was 9:00pm and there was no sign of George.
"Oh! Oh no!" I said causing him to freeze.
"What is it?" he asked.
"I'm sorry Benjamin but…I've got to go. I'll be back in a little bit," I said pulling my hand out. I ran out and looked back only once to see his confused expression mixed with hurt that tugged at my heart. Still, I knew where I needed to be. I ran out of the gym and outside.
As soon as I got there, I gasped. In front of Doc's car, stood George with his arm being bent backwards by Biff as Lorraine was screaming from the car. Marty was no where to be seen.
'We're screwed,' I thought to myself. I was so in shock that I was unable to move. Unlike my uselessness, Lorraine got up and jumped on Biff and started hitting him. This caused Biff to release George and push Lorraine to the ground. My eyes went wide as Biff started to laugh at Lorraine on the ground.
All of a sudden, George stood back up and clenched his fist while looking at Lorraine. He then turned his attention towards Biff.
"Abs!" someone called from behind me. I turned around and saw Marty running towards me. By the time he got to me, both of us heard a loud noise. We turned around and saw Biff was slumped up against the car and then fell to the ground with a 'plop'. Both Marty, Lorraine, and I looked shocked and staring at George who was grinning so big and looking at his hand that was previously into a fist. He then looked down at Lorraine.
"Are you okay?" he asked holding out his hand. Lorraine nodded at him and took his hand. George helped her up all while both of them could not take their eyes off of each other. I smiled so big now while Marty put his arm around me. People then started running towards Biff's unconscious body while George escorted Lorraine towards the gym.
"We did it," I said. Marty then released me and pulled out the photograph. Dave was completely gone and Linda's body was half gone.
"Not yet. Remember, they still gotta kiss. Come on!" he said. I followed him towards the back to the school where it reeked of cigarettes and other stuff that I'm sure wasn't allowed. There behind a four-door stood Marvin Barry and his crew. One of them was helping Marvin wrap his injured hand.
"Guys! Guys! You've gotta get back in there and finish this dance!" Marty said.
"Finish the dance? Ha! Look at Marvin's hand. He can't play with that. If we don't have Marvin, we don't got a show," one of the members said.
"No no no Marvin, you don't understand. See this is the dance where they kiss on the dancefloor for the first time. If there's no music, then they can't dance and if they can't dance then they don't fall in love and if they don't fall in love MY SISTER AND I ARE HISTORY!" Marty begged.
"Please! This is life and death!" I added.
"Look kids, the dance is over unless either of you happen to know someone here who can play the guitar," Marvin said.
"I can!" Marty said. All the members looked at him funny.
"You?" another member asked.
"Yes! He's one of the best guitar players in Hill Valley! He can play anything!" I urged.
"She's right. Just let me borrow your guitar and I'll play whatever you want on stage!" Marty said. The band members all looked at each other for a moment before Marvin turned back to us.
"Alright. You're in" Marvin said.
"Yes!" I cheered.
"Thank you. You won't regret this!" Marty promised.
"I hope not," Marvin said.
I suppose I'll stop it right there for now. Next chapter will be the chapter. I honestly can't believe we are almost done this story and getting ready to move on to the next one. I hope you enjoyed it and I'll see you all next time.
