Life for Peter didn't approve right away as no sooner had Harry fallen into his coma than his parents appeared alive and well. Apparently, they had been in a Russian prison for the past couple of decades and had only just escaped.

Sadly, there is no actuality; they weren't his parents and were, in fact, androids created by the Chameleon in an attempt to discover Spider-Man's secret identity. They immediately turned on him when he informed them of his identity, though his mother's android was a lot more reluctant. Regardless, a scuffle happened, and the androids were destroyed, but Peter felt as if he had lost his parents all over again.

In all honesty, he didn't know how much more that she could take, but there was one upside. MJ revealed that she was pregnant, and with this knowledge that he was about to be a father, he took Ghost Spider's words to heart. He once again attempted to get his PhD and decided to look for a new, more well-paid job.

Reed Richards offered him to work as an assistant at the Baxter Building, which he was more than willing to accept. It made his life a little bit easier, considering that his boss knew that he was Spider-Man and was more than willing to allow Peter to work on his projects.

The only downside was the fact that he had to spend some time with Johnny Storm. They had encountered each other a few times but often annoyed one another. He was a bit more insufferable than normal as he discovered that his wife turned out to be a Skrull.

"Peter, how have you managed to decrypt the readings from the Negative Zone that I asked for?" Reed asked.

"The right here, Reed," said Peter, handing him the research notes. "Nothing out of the ordinary."

"Good, I would hate for us to deal with Annihilus again," he said as he took the research notes from him. "How's your wife doing, by the way?"

"All right, though, to take things easy and her condition," said Peter.

Reed chuckled. "Sue is just the same, and we had Franklin. By the way, you and Mary Jane decided on names yet?"

"We've got a name down if it's a girl; we're thinking of her name after my aunt because she was such a good role model," Peter smiled. "MJ also wants to use her mother's name for the middle name."

"I'm sure the two of you will make excellent parents," Reed assured him.

Peter sighed. "I just hope that the kid will be normal. MJ is constantly terrified every time I take on bad guys; I don't want her fretting over our baby the same way."

Reed placed a hand on his shoulder. "Son, that sort of thing is beyond our control, and you're not alone in that regard. It's the same thing that all superhero types go through."

"What are you guys yammering on about?" Johnny asked as he entered the room.

"We're discussing our future families, Johnny," said Reed. "I'm just offering Peter some advice."

Johnny fumed. "Oh, I see now. I'll leave you two to it."

Peter watched as he took off. "Is he all right?"

"He's just jealous, kid," Ben chuckled as he entered the room. "Unlike you, his beautiful wife turned out to be a Skrull agent, but the fact is that you're going to be a dad soon. Plus, you have dreams that are as big as Stretcho here."

Peter had a hard time believing that Johnny was jealous of him, all the sports cars and the fame he received every time he stepped outside. Also, you were rather jealous of all his adventures with the Fantastic Four.

Meanwhile, Gwen finally tracked down Ben Reilly, Peter's clone. However, neither one of them knew who the original Peter Parker was, so she decided not to get involved.

However, from Peter's memories, she knew the two of them were close, but then Ben went down a dark path. She hoped that she could prevent that from happening with these memories she received. He was currently doing superhero work as the Scarlet Spider, but MJ, now pregnant Peter, decided to hand the mantle over to Ben.

"Ben Reilly," she said as she met him on a rooftop.

"So you're the Ghost Spider that Peter had been talking about," he said, turning to face her. "What do I owe the pleasure?"

"I was just hoping the two of us can talk," she said.

"About what?" Ben asked, folding his arms. "Peter might trust you, but I don't. You still keep your identity a secret, even though you know ours. You have not even told us how you know our identities?"

"Technically, I'm hiding my identity from Peter, not you," said Gwen. "It's imperative that he doesn't know who I am, at least not yet."

Ben looked at her suspiciously. "So, who are you?"

"I think you already know me quite well," said Gwen as she removed her mask.

Ben's eyes widened the moment his eyes fell upon her face. "Gwen? But that's impossible unless you're a…"

"I'm not a clone," said Gwen quickly. "I know that you and Peter had some pretty bad experiences with clones."

"That's putting it mildly," said Ben, folding his arms. "And how do I know that you're not a clone?"

"Because my origin is a lot more far-fetched," she said.

She then explained everything to Ben; he just stood there and listened.

"That is rather far-fetched," Ben conceded. "So far-fetched that it has to be true. So you're saying that this demon Mephisto is so afraid of Peter and MJ's kid that he went as far as warping reality to make sure they were never married."

"Pretty much," Gwen nodded. "Doctor Strange selected my soul because I knew both Peter and MJ and died before those changes. By reincarnating me, he was able to reset the timeline with one small difference."

"You," said Ben. "And we both Peter and MJ's memories, you can now make sure they have a happily ever after."

"Yes, but the big problem is I only have memories of the altered timeline, not this one," Gwen explained. "In that altered timeline, MJ and Peter never married, so they never had a kid, which means I won't know what's going to happen."

"But Peter and MJ would not have made that deal if their kid was alive," said Ben.

"Exactly, but I don't know if the kids are going to have is going to be the one that threatens Mephisto or not," said Gwen. "Which means I still need to protect Peter and MJ's marriage as well as their kids."

"But that's too big a job for only you," said Ben. "Which is why you've come to me."

Gwen nodded. "We have to do everything we can to make Peter and MJ's life easier. I'm already doing that fighting crime, which makes life easier for Peter to get his PhD; believe me, in the previous timeline, he had a lot of trouble getting it."

"But why are you so desperate to help Peter and MJ?" Ben asked. "If I recall, you have a relationship with Peter."

Gwen sighed. "Because I wanted to be happy, and to be honest, MJ truly does love him both as Peter Parker and Spider-Man."

Ben nodded. "I'll help you then; you might want to consider revealing your identity to Peter and MJ."

"And I will someday, but not now."

MJ would like to say that life had improved greatly since she got pregnant, but that would have been a lie. Peter's Aunt May had passed away, and then Peter was suddenly arrested on the same day as her funeral.

It turned out that he was the main suspect in a series of murders and was fingerprinted and found on the crime scene, and he was unable to give a full account of his whereabouts during the murder. In all actuality, it wasn't Peter, but it was another clone named Kaine, who turned out to be another one of Jackal's clones; in fact, he was the first. Unfortunately, he suffered from cellular degradation, meaning he was ageing a lot faster than and he was rather resentful.

Ghost Spider and Ben did everything they could to help, and Ben even switched places with Peter. A fight broke out during the trial between Kaine, Peter, and Ghost Spider. Peter was even willing to reveal his identity to the entire tribunal, but Kaine quickly confessed to the murders.

In all honesty, MJ didn't know how much more she could take; it was like the entire world was against them. However, she was grateful that Peter had decided not to go as Spider-Man as often and helped her prepare for the baby.

"How are my girls doing?" Peter asked as he kissed MJ on the cheek.

They could not determine the sex of the baby, so they asked, and it turned out that they were going to have a baby girl.

"We're both doing fine, Tiger," MJ smiled as she stroked her stomach. "Though she was rather restless in the night."

"She just can't wait to meet her parents," Peter chuckled as he stroked her stomach as well.

MJ then looked at Peter, concerned. "Peter, what are we going to do if she turns out to be like you?"

"I don't know," said Peter honestly. "But we'll work through it together."

"I just don't want her to be different from the other children. Does that sound selfish?"

"No, it doesn't," Peter smiled, kissing her. "No matter how she turns out, we will both love her, and if it turns out she has my powers, we'll figure things out together."

MJ smiled. "Give to be a great dad, I just know it."

"And you'll be a great mom."

"How can you be so certain?" MJ asked. "I didn't exactly come from a stable family."

Peter then lifted her chin so that she could look at him in the eyes. "I know you'll be great because I know you."

"Sweet talker," MJ chuckled. "It's times like this that I remember why I married you."

"So it wasn't because I look good in tights," Peter smiled.

MJ laughed. "You did cut quite a nice figure."

The two of them laughed as they embraced one another, thinking that, finally, things were looking up.

MJ was expecting any day now, and Gwen couldn't help but be happy for her. However, the Green Goblin suddenly went on a rampage, and everyone was surprised it was Norman Osborn. He hadn't killed himself, mostly due to the goblin formula that power gave him super regenerative abilities.

He was now causing the city to be pounding, trying to draw in Spider-Man, but he got a little more than he bargained for. Both Gwen and Ben, who was dressed up as the Scarlet Spider, rushed in to assist him, but unfortunately, they had another problem.

"Of all the days for Norman to come back from the dead," Peter groaned as they chased after him.

"Why? What's the matter?" Gwen asked.

"MJ just gone into labour," Ben explained.

Gwen stared in shock and then looked at Peter. "Then what are you doing here? You should go to the hospital."

"Norman wants me; there's no telling what damage he could do," Peter argued.

"But your wife needs you by her side," Gwen counted. "And you think it's a coincidence that he decided to attack the same day that your wife went into labour."

Peter frowned at her. "You think that he's trying to stop me from going to the hospital?"

"I wouldn't put it past him," said Ben. "The man seems to have a massive grudge against you and has spent quite a lot of his time making your life a misery."

"B-but…"

"We can handle this," said Gwen.

"He won't rest until Spider-Man faces him," Peter argued.

"If Spider-Man is the one he wants, then Spider-Man he's going to get," said Ben.

Ben's plan was devilishly simple; while Gwen distracted Norman, Ben and Peter switched costumes in an alleyway.

"Why come out of hiding, Osborn?" Gwen asked as he dodged one of his pumpkin bombs. "And why today of all days?"

"My reasons are my own," said Norman, laughing maniacally.

"Let me guess, to make Peter's life a misery," said Gwen as she landed in a nearby building. "Don't you think he suffered enough?"

"Oh, he suffered nowhere near enough," Norman sneered. "After what he did to my son, how can I ever show him any mercy?"

"Peter was not responsible for Harry!" Gwen yelled. "You're the one to blame for what happened to him. If it weren't for us, he would be dead right now."

"And instead, he's in a coma, and I should be thankful for that?" Norman roared as he tossed several blades at her. "Also, I'm curious as to why you are so protective of Peter Parker and his wife. You seem to always be there for them when they're in trouble."

"It's called being a friend," said Gwen.

"And what a good friend she is," said Ben as he swung in, now dressed as Spider-Man.

"Ah, the man of the hour has arrived," Norman smiled. "But tell me, what happened to the Scarlet Spider? I would have thought he'd show himself."

"What can I say? The life of a superhero is very busy and hectic," Ben shrugged. "Now, can we get this over and done with? My wife is currently in labour."

Norman sneered. "Oh, it will be overall right once you're dead!"

Gwen then swung in and grabbed him from behind. "Why come out of the shadows now, Norman?"

"Well, considering my plan to torment Parker failed, I had to come up with a new one," said Norman, breaking free from her grip and tossing her off his glider.

Ben swooped in and grabbed her. "And what plan would that be?"

"Simple to clone you, Parker," said Norman.

"What?!" Ben stared. "But I thought it was the Jackal that cloned me?"

"But who do you think gave him the idea?" said Norman, beginning to toss more pumpkin bombs. "My plan was simple: create the clone and feed misinformation by making you believe that you were a clone and the clone was the original."

"Wait, you mean that I'm not the cl—the original?" said Ben, stunned.

"Yes, I thought it would sow confusion, and the two of you would destroy one another," said Norman. "However, I didn't expect you and the clone to reconcile, and you took the opportunity to retire so you could be with your beloved wife. If that wasn't bad enough, you about have a child, and I refuse to let you have a happily ever after!"

"Why do you hate Peter so much?" Gwen yelled as Ben tossed up into the air and began firing some webbing.

"He's integrated my business and my family for far too long; it's time that I cut the infection!" Norman yelled and immediately tossed a pumpkin bomb in Ben's face.

The explosion caused Ben to be sent flying backwards, and he landed on a rooftop.

"This is where it ends for you, Parker!" Norman yelled as he dived down, and a blade shot out of the mouth of his glider.

Gwen, however, swung high up into the air and fired some webbing at Ben, pulling him to safety before he got impaled.

"You'll pay for your interference, girl!" Norman yelled as he held out a pumpkin bomb.

"Not today, Osborn!" Ben yelled and quickly fired some webbing.

The webbing then wrapped itself around Norman's hand while he was still holding the pumpkin bomb. Seconds later, there was an explosion. Both Gwen and Ben swung down to investigate, but there was no sign of Norman.

"Do you think he blew himself up?" Ben asked.

"No way were that lucky," said Gwen. "I have a sneaking suspicion he'll show himself."

"We should get to the hospital, just in case he makes a move on his wife and newborn daughter," said Ben.

Gwen nodded in agreement, and they swung over towards the hospital.

A few minutes earlier, Peter had managed to arrive at the hospital in Ben's Scarlet Spider outfit. He quickly rushed to get his close back on and immediately went into the hospital enquiring about his wife, who was currently in labour.

Without a second despair, he immediately dashed towards MJ and could hear her screams coming from the room.

"MJ, I'm here!" Peter yelled as he rushed in putting his mask on.

"It's… about… time!" MJ panted.

She then screamed as she put in one final push, and they heard the cries of their newborn daughter.

"May I present your daughter, Mr and Mrs Parker," the doctor smiled.

"She's beautiful," said Peter as the doctor wrapped the little girl in a blanket and handed her over to him. "Just like her mother."

Peter then handed the daughter over to MJ, who smiled in delight. "Welcome to the world, May Madeline Parker."

"Let's get this little girl all cleaned up," said the nurse, taking little May from them, "she wants to look her best when she meets the rest of her family."

The nurse then carried May out of the room, but instead of taking her to the nursery, she made her way to the fire exit, tossing her badge into the bin, which read 'Allison Mongrain'.

A few hours later, after demanding to see their daughter, they soon discovered that she had been kidnapped.

"Mrs Mongrain, if that's even her real name, came highly recommended," said the doctor as he tried to explain the situation. "Her credentials were impeccable."

"I don't care if Oprah herself vouched for that monster!" Peter roared as he comforted MJ, who was crying in buckets. "Where is she? What happened to my daughter?"

"I-I don't know, but we've already got the police," the doctor assured him.

He then quickly ran off, leaving Peter alone with MJ and Ben, who had just arrived. Then they heard a knock on the window and saw Ghost Spider hanging outside.

"I heard what happened," she said as she entered the room.

"Why would anyone do this?" MJ cried. "She would take our little girl?"

"I don't know, but I'm not going to rest until I find her," said Peter determinedly.

"Easy there, Pete," said Ghost Spider. "Let's calm down and think this through."

"My daughter has just been kidnapped, and you want me to wait!" Peter yelled.

"We don't have any leads, and right now, I think MJ needs a husband more than she needs Spider-Man," said Ghost Spider.

Peter looked at MJ and conceded that she had a point, though he hated it.

"I promise I will do everything in my power to find your daughter," Ghost Spider promised.

"And I can take over as Spider-Man for a while, brother," Ben added.

Peter nodded. "All right, but I want constant updates. Even if they're not what I want to hear."

"Don't worry, I'll make sure that you're still in the loop," Ghost Spider promised.

Meanwhile, Allison Mongrain made her way to the docs, where she met Norman Osborn, who was holding little May in her arms.

"I have the girl as requested," she said.

"Perfect," Norman smiled as he looked at the little girl. "And the parents believe that she's dead?"

"I'm afraid not; the husband arrived just as she was born," said Allison.

Norman silently cursed. He thought he had bought enough time to prevent Parker from arriving for the birth. It then dawned on him that he and the clone had played switcheroo, making a fool out of him.

"That's regrettable, but it can still play to my advantage," he said.

"What do you intend to do with her, and why this girl in particular?" Allison asked as she handed May over to Norman.

"I didn't pay you to answer questions, and my reasons are my own," said Norman, smiling evilly at little May. "I have certain plans for her."

If you're afraid that Mayday is going to die, do not worry. I plan on adding her to future chapters because I feel that if One More Day didn't happen, she would appear later on.

I will follow as closely as I can to the comics in the 616 universe, but with Gwen in the mix, things will shift slightly.

Additionally, a poll was put up for everyone to vote on whether Mary Jane became a superhero and who they would want her to be: Spinneret or Jackpot.
