The sun has just risen and everyone could already feel the buzzing of the moments before a battle begins. Josh rides to the edge of the battlefield, Jared by his side, and his army behind him.
Josh scans the men across the field, expecting to see Logan somewhere, but there's no sign of him.
-"Logan's not on the field. Something's up." - Josh watches Logan's men, waiting for their orders.
-"Maybe he's waiting for you to strike first, to show your hand."
-"No, that isn't it. Something's wrong. We can't underestimate him."
Jared nods, looking back at the field at the same time as Josh, just when a messenger carrying a white flag rides across towards them. Josh orders two of his men to meet the messenger halfway. Upon their return, one of the men gives him a note from Logan.
Josh opens the small paper and reads it, anger crossing his face, but manages to keep a straight face before folding it back up and handing it to Jared.
Jared wishes he had had Josh's ability to keep a straight face when he sees what the note says. Reading it for a second time, it is as clear as it was the first time he read it, an invitation for Alexander and Bella's wedding.
-"Is he serious, right now?"
-"It appears so." - Josh tips his chin forward, towards the line of Logan's men, in front of which now stands a priest in the middle of the line, exactly where Josh can see him perfectly.
-"You don't thinkā¦"
-"I think we just ran out of time."
