Preface: After some consideration, I decided to make this TRAJQ x Highlander crossover project into two seperate stories, and this here is a prequel to "The Quest Chronicles: Highlander".

Shipping: Duncan x Tessa; Jonny x Jessie (implied); Richie x OC (Kaylee)

Disclaimer: The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, Jonny Quest and all characters and properties belong to Hanna Barbera and Warner Bros. Animation. Highlander and all characters and properties belong to Rysher Entertainment and Gaumount Television. Alex Kenyon belongs to a good friend of mine, and I got permission to use him. Kaylee DiMenco is the only character I own here as well as this project.

Plot: ("Encounter at Farpoint"; set between Season 2 episodes "The Watchers" and "Studies in Light") Kaylee, Jonny and Hadji witness a Quickening for the first time, leading to the Quest Team meeting Duncan MacLeod for the first time. Jessie is also introduced to the group.

Chance Encounters

"So, punishment's over?" Kaylee asked as she was walking down the trail with Jonny and Hadji in tow.

"No," Jonny answered, "it's going on for the rest of the week."

"Dr. Quest told us to get some fresh air though," Hadji added, "which is why we are at the park with you."

"I always like the walks in the park," Kaylee stated, "in fact, I would sometimes spend my nights in the park whenever I ran away from home back in the day. I'm amazed Jersey had a city park, but it does."

Suddenly, the three heard loud clanging sounds from a distance.

"What was that?" Jonny asked.

The group heard the clanging sounds again.

"I hear it too," Hadji stated.

"As did I," Kaylee stated.

The three hurried to where they heard the sounds at. They looked in surprise to see a man who looked exactly like Duncan MacLeod having a sword fight with another man.

"That's MacLeod!" Kaylee exclaimed in a whisper.

"Who?" Hadji asked.

"Richie's adopted father," Kaylee answered, "I saw him at the movies yesterday."

"Did he have a sword with him?" Jonny asked.

"I saw something that looked like a sword," Kaylee admitted, "but he didn't use it when I saw him pick up Richie."

"Who's Richie," Jonny asked teasingly, "your boyfriend?"

"Oh, shut up," Kaylee scoffed as she gently pat her cousin's arm.

Moments later, the three looked to see Duncan use his katana to decapitate his opponent. He took the other man's head, causing the kids to gasp in shock.

"What was that about?" Jonny asked in a gasp.

Suddenly, a burst of wind filled the entire area. The three watched as mist went from the dead man's body to Duncan's body. Then, lighting struck the man as Duncan was holding his sword in the air. The same lighting was striking different parts of the area, including near the kids.

For what felt like an eternity, the kids watched was going on with their own eyes, and then, finally, the lighting show stopped as Duncan dropped to his knees.

"What was that about?!" Jonny asked a little bit louder.

"I do not think it is a good idea for him to spot us," Hadji told his brother.

"Why?"

Duncan noticed the three standing nearby. Kaylee only stared in awe. She wondered if this guy was one of these immortals Richie was talking about.

"Whoa," Kaylee muttered.

"You're Kaylee," Duncan noticed the female in the group, "the girl I met at the movies yesterday."

"Yeah," Kaylee nodded.

"Can you explain what that was all about?" Jonny asked.

Duncan appeared to be hesitant as he looked around the area for a moment.

"Are you...immortal?" Kaylee asked. The Highlander looked over at her, surprised.

"Immortal?!" Hadji and Jonny exclaimed in unison.

Duncan sighed before he looked at the three, "How much do you know?"

"Well," Kaylee answered, "Richie only mentioned a friend of yours was killed by someone who wants to kill all immortals. That's all he mentioned."

There was another pause of silence.

"My friend was killed by a Hunter," Duncan spoke up, "I think I need to talk to you more about this at your place."

"We will have to talk to their dad for permission," Kaylee told the Highlander, "I'm old enough to make my own decisions, but they're still kids."

"I understand," Duncan replied, "I'll need to explain to you guys about this immortal thing in detail."

Kaylee agreed to let Duncan drive them to where Benton and Race was located.

"What the Sam Hill is going on here?" Race asked.

"We witnessed something quite unusual at the park," Kaylee answered.

"Something quite unusual?" Benton asked, confused.

Duncan turned from the group for a moment, unsure about what he was going to tell them what those kids have just witnessed. He sighed, knowing that they might as well know about this now because sooner or later, they would possibly be caught in this immortal crossfire, whether they wanted it or not.

Duncan turned around and faced the group, "Typically, immortals are not supposed to learn about immortals."

Everyone looked confused by this statement.

"So, immortals do exist," Jonny muttered.

"What these kids witnessed is called a Quickening," Duncan explained, "that happens after a dual with another immortal and the opponent has their head removed."

The kids in particular looked surprised by this, mainly the boys.

"Who are you anyways?" Race asked.

"I'm Duncan MacLeod," Duncan introduced himself, "of the Clan MacLeod."

The Quest Team all looked at him. It was all confusing but intriguing at the same time.

"I wouldn't be telling you this if there wasn't any pre-immortals in the building," Duncan looked at the group.

"Pre-immortals?" Jonny asked, confused.

"Before those mortals become immortal," Duncan explained, "they have to suffer their first death, which is not a natural death, such as murder. If they don't experience it, then they grow old and die, or die from diseases, like any mortals."

"That answers that question," Benton stated.

"And about the Quickening," Jonny added.

"Pre-immortals can't sense us while us immortals can," Duncan added in, "which was what I was sensing at the movies?"

"Kaylee was the only one at the movies," Benton stated, "my boys are grounded for a previous incident."

"But the only reason they were out in the first place is because Doc decided they should get some fresh air and go with Kaylee at her walk to the park."

"So, you're saying Kaylee might be...immortal?" Benton asked.

"She isn't yet," Duncan nodded, "but she's pre-immortal, as I have been sensing since I saw her at the movies."

Benton and Race looked at the kids, who shared the same glance at them.

"That meeting in Seattle wasn't just a mere coincidence, Doc," Race muttered, "there was more of a reason why we are here than just a simple meeting."

"I noticed," Benton nodded.

"I will be keeping in touch," Duncan informed the team before beginning to leave the building.

"Wait!" Benton exclaimed, "if that's the case, why don't we discuss this over brunch or something?"

Duncan looked at him, "I'll talk to Tessa about it. She might be open to some special guests."

"Doctor Quest," an officer on their screen spoke as he was at the gate with a girl with red hair in tow, "i have someone here with a story I think you might want to hear."

"That's her!" Jonny exclaimed pointing at the girl on screen, "the girl from the streets we helped the other night."

Duncan nodded, deciding this was a good time to return home.

-Brave-New-World-

"My father went into hiding when he started making this gold," Jessie explained, regarding the package the police recovered.

"Where is he, Jessie?" Race asked.

"I don't know," Jessie answered, "I just got a message to deliver that package to a friend of his."

"And this friend was going to get the stuff in the package processed," Benton asked, "then your father could come out of hiding, is that right?"

"Yes," Jessie answered, "so, we can be a family again."

"What do you mean?" Jonny asked, petting Bandit.

"I've lived in boarding school most of my life," Jessie answered, "so I never got to know my father, but if I can just deliver the stuff in that package to..."

She appeared to be hesitant.

"To whom, Jessie?" the officer asked, "you can tell us."

"No," Jessie shook her head.

"Jessie," Benton insisted, "a maniac named Dr. Zin is after your father and his secret."

"I'll tell you," Jessie finally relented, "but only if I can come along."

"This is no time for bargains!" Kaylee exclaimed, "You were the one who got my cousins arrested the night before!"

"I didn't mean to," Jessie insisted.

"Mmm hmm, sure," Kaylee crossed her arms and nodded.

"Kaylee, stop," Benton glanced at his niece.

"If your father was in trouble," Jessie touched Benton's arm, "wouldn't you want to help save him?"

"Yeah," Jonny nodded, "I would."

"The process could bring the entire world into a panic," the officer stated, "you must find Parker before Zin does."

"I'll take responsibility for Jessie," Benton stood up before he faced his son, "but no unnecessary risks!"
