Chapter 7: Hidden mist swordsmen assault

The early morning sun cast a golden hue over the bustling streets of Konoha as Naruto, the bridge builder Tazuna, and the new Team 7 assembled at the village gate, preparing for their journey to the Land of Waves. Kakashi, with his signature relaxed demeanor, stood at the forefront of the group, his eyes hidden behind his ever-present mask. Sasuke, Sakura, and Karin trailed behind Kakashi, their expressions a mix of annoyance and disdain as they glanced at Naruto, who stood a few paces away, his arms crossed over his chest and a scowl etched on his features.

"You're seriously sending us on a mission with him?" Sasuke muttered under his breath, his voice laced with contempt as he shot a glare in Naruto's direction.

"Yeah, I'd rather face a thousand bandits than spend another minute with this idiot." Sakura added, her tone dripping with disdain as she tossed a disdainful glance at Naruto. Karin, with her fiery red hair and piercing eyes, crossed her arms over her chest, her expression one of open hostility as she scoffed at Naruto.

"Great, we're stuck with the dead last. This mission is already a disaster. Naruto's nostrils flared with barely contained fury as he listened to their insults, his fists clenched at his sides. With a venomous glare, he locked eyes with Sasuke, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he fired back.

"Oh look, it's the red-eyed rat and his band of lackeys. Tell me, Sasuke, what's it like being the last surviving member of the deadest clan in Konoha?" Sasuke's eyes flashed with anger at the jab, his fists tightening at his sides as he gritted his teeth.

"Watch your mouth, Naruto. You have no idea what you're talking about." Naruto's gaze then shifted to Sakura, his expression morphing into one of mocking amusement as he sneered.

"And you, Sakura, with your flat chest and massive forehead. No wonder you're so desperate for Sasuke's attention. Too bad he couldn't care less about you." Sakura's cheeks flushed with embarrassment and anger at Naruto's words, her hands balling into fists as she shot him a withering glare.

"Shut up, Naruto! You're just a loud-mouthed idiot who can't even properly use ninjutsu." Naruto's attention then turned to Karin, his tone dripping with disdain as he unleashed his verbal assault.

"And you, Karin, the no-good, lying, deceitful woman who's all talk and no bite. You think you're tough, but we both know you're just a coward." Karin's eyes blazed with fury at Naruto's words, her fists trembling with rage as she took a step forward, her voice laced with venom.

"You have no right to talk to me like that, Naruto. You're nothing but a loud-mouthed brat who thinks he's better than everyone else." As the tension between them reached its peak, Kakashi intervened, his tone calm yet firm as he addressed the bickering ninjas.

"That's enough, all of you. We're here to complete a mission, not to engage in petty squabbles." Naruto gritted his teeth, his fists still clenched at his sides as he begrudgingly backed down, his gaze locked with Kakashi's.

"Fine, but don't expect me to play nice with these three. They started it." Kakashi sighed inwardly, knowing that managing this volatile team would be no easy task. With a resigned nod, he gestured for them to continue on their journey, hoping that they could put aside their differences long enough to accomplish their mission.

As they continued their journey towards the Land of Waves, the bridge builder, Tazuna, couldn't help but overhear the heated exchange between Kakashi's team and Naruto. He shook his head in disapproval, muttering under his breath about the lack of professionalism among the young ninja. Turning to Kakashi, Tazuna raised an eyebrow, his tone laced with skepticism.

"Are these really the best ninja Konoha has to offer? They seem more interested in bickering than focusing on the mission at hand." Kakashi, ever the diplomat, offered a reassuring smile as he addressed Tazuna's concerns.

"I apologize for their behavior, Tazuna-san. They may be a bit rough around the edges, but they're still in training. Rest assured, they're more than capable of handling themselves in a fight." Tazuna grunted in annoyance, his expression betraying his dissatisfaction with the situation.

"Well, they better be. This mission is all I could afford, and I can't afford any mistakes." Before the conversation could continue, two shadowy figures emerged from a nearby puddle, their presence going unnoticed until it was too late. With a swift motion, they lunged towards Kakashi, brandishing a long shuriken chain with deadly intent. However, before they could reach their target, Naruto sprang into action, unleashing a barrage of paper shurikens with lightning speed. The paper projectiles sliced through the chains with precision, immobilizing the attackers and leaving them vulnerable.

With a swift uppercut, Naruto knocked one of the ninja unconscious, while Sasuke, displaying his lightning-fast reflexes, darted towards the other assailant. With a powerful axe kick, he incapacitated the second ninja, rendering him unconscious with a single blow. As the dust settled, Sakura and Karin watched in awe at Sasuke's impressive display of skill, their eyes wide with admiration as they gazed at him with newfound respect. Completely ignoring Naruto's contribution, they showered Sasuke with compliments, their attention fully focused on the Uchiha prodigy.

"Oh wow, Sasuke-kun! That was amazing!" Sakura exclaimed, her voice tinged with excitement as she clasped her hands together in admiration. Karin nodded enthusiastically, her eyes never leaving Sasuke's form as she marveled at his prowess.

"I've never seen anyone move like that. Sasuke-kun truly is incredible." Ignoring Naruto's presence entirely, the two girls continued to heap praise upon Sasuke, their voices filled with adoration and reverence for the Uchiha prodigy, leaving Naruto feeling sidelined and ignored.

Sasuke's eyes narrowed as he watched Naruto, his expression unreadable. Ignoring the admiration of the two women, his attention was solely fixed on his blond teammate. He crossed his arms, a smirk playing on his lips as he prepared to deliver his cutting remarks.

"You got lucky, Naruto." Sasuke began, his voice dripping with disdain. "Anyone can throw a few shurikens and get lucky hits. It takes skill and finesse to truly be a master of combat, something the Uchiha clan is known for." Naruto scoffed at Sasuke's words, his own eyes flashing with defiance.

"Skill and finesse? More like arrogance and a superiority complex. Maybe if you weren't so busy admiring yourself in the mirror, you would have noticed those two ninjas setting up an ambush." Sasuke's smirk faltered for a moment, a flicker of anger crossing his features.

"Watch your mouth, Naruto. You may have some raw talent, but you're still leagues behind me."

"Leagues behind you?" Naruto retorted, his tone mocking. "Please, you're just a red-eyed rodent with delusions of grandeur. Maybe if you spent less time brooding and more time training, you'd actually be as good as you think you are.

" Kakashi, sensing the tension between his students, stepped in before the situation could escalate further.

"That's enough, both of you. We're on a mission, and we need to focus on the task at hand." Turning to the rest of his team, Kakashi gave them a firm look.

"Sakura, Karin, stay by Tazuna's side and keep an eye out for any more trouble. Naruto, Sasuke, come with me. We need to interrogate these two ninjas and find out who sent them." With a nod from his students, Kakashi led Naruto and Sasuke towards the captured ninja, leaving Sakura and Karin to watch over the bridge builder. As they approached, the ninja glared defiantly, clearly unafraid of their captors. Kakashi's eye narrowed as he studied the ninja, his gaze sharp and calculating.

"Who sent you?" he demanded, his voice firm. The ninja remained silent, their lips sealed tight. Sasuke stepped forward, a dangerous glint in his eye.

"Answer the question, or you'll regret it." He threatened, his voice low and menacing. Still, the ninja refused to speak, their loyalty to their cause unshaken. Naruto, growing impatient, cracked his knuckles, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.

"Well, if they won't talk, maybe I can persuade them." He said, his tone playful yet tinged with a hint of danger. Before Kakashi could stop him, Naruto lunged forward, grabbing one of the ninja by the collar and lifting him off the ground.

"Who sent you?!" He demanded, his voice echoing through the clearing.

As Naruto's eyes blazed with Kurama's chakra, the ninja's fear was palpable. He trembled in Naruto's grip, his eyes wide with terror as he stammered out the name of his employer.

"It's Gato! Gato hired us to kill the bridge builder!" He exclaimed, his voice shaking with fear.

"He said the bridge would bring prosperity to the land of waves, and Gato couldn't allow that!" With a growl, Naruto threw the ninja to the ground, his rage simmering just beneath the surface. Kakashi swiftly knocked both ninja out, then proceeded to restrain them with rope to a nearby tree, ensuring they wouldn't cause any more trouble. Turning his attention to the bridge builder, Kakashi's gaze was piercing.

"Did you know these ninjas were after you?" He asked, his tone serious. "This mission was classified as a C rank, but if ninja were involved, it would have been considered a B rank mission. Did you lie to us?" The bridge builder shifted uncomfortably, guilt evident in his expression.

"I... I did." He admitted, his voice filled with shame.

"The truth is, the village I come from is very poor. We couldn't afford to pay for a B rank mission, so I thought it would be safer to hire a C rank team instead." Kakashi's gaze softened slightly, understanding the man's predicament.

"I see." he said, a note of sympathy in his voice. "But lying to us puts my team in danger. We could have been killed because of your actions." The bridge builder hung his head, knowing he had made a grave mistake.

"I'm sorry." he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I never meant for any harm to come to you or your team. Please, forgive me." Kakashi sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"I understand your situation, but lying was not the answer." He said firmly. "We'll finish this mission and ensure the bridge is completed, but please, be honest with us from now on." With that, Kakashi turned to his team, the seriousness of their situation weighing heavily on his mind. They had a mission to complete, but the dangers ahead were now more apparent than ever.

***A few days later***

As the small rowboat carried them across the choppy waters towards the Land of Waves, Kakashi took the opportunity to interrogate the bridge builder further.

"Tell me everything you know about Gato." He demanded, his voice firm. "We need to understand the full extent of the threat we're facing." The bridge builder nodded, his gaze fixed on the horizon.

"Gato is a ruthless businessman." He explained, his voice tinged with fear. "He controls everything in the Land of Waves, including the people. He'll stop at nothing to maintain his grip on power." Kakashi listened intently, absorbing every word.

"And what about his men?" He pressed, his curiosity piqued. "What kind of forces does he have at his disposal?" The bridge builder hesitated, his expression troubled.

"Gato's men are skilled mercenaries." He admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "They'll do anything for money, including killing innocent people."

As their conversation drew to a close, they finally reached the shore of the Land of Waves. Stepping off the rowboat, they began to make their way through the dense woods, the tension palpable in the air. Suddenly, Naruto sensed a disturbance in the chakra around them. Reacting instinctively, he hurled a paper kunai into a nearby bush, narrowly missing a snow bunny that darted out of the underbrush. Sakura and Sasuke, along with Karin, exchanged mocking glances, their insults directed at Naruto like venomous arrows.

"Nice aim, Naruto." Sakura taunted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Maybe next time you'll actually hit something." Sasuke smirked, his eyes alight with amusement.

"Yeah, and maybe next time you won't be such a failure." He added, his words laced with disdain. Karin joined in with a snide remark of her own.

"Honestly, I don't know why Kakashi-sensei bothers with you." She scoffed, her voice filled with contempt. "You're nothing but dead weight."

But Kakashi remained silent, his mind racing as he processed the information about the snow bunny.

"Snow bunnies don't belong in this region." He mused aloud, his brow furrowed in thought. "Something isn't right here." Before he could delve deeper into his thoughts, the sound of a sword cutting through the air snapped him back to reality.

"Duck!" He shouted, his voice echoing through the forest. Everyone obeyed, ducking low to avoid the blade as it whizzed past them. Everyone, that is, except Naruto. With lightning-fast reflexes, Naruto channeled earth release chakra into his hand, hardening it into a makeshift shield. Catching the blade in midair, he grunted with effort before utilizing the Flying Raijin to teleport it back to his house. As the tension dissipated, Kakashi turned to Naruto with a mixture of admiration and concern.

"Nice catch." he remarked, his voice tinged with pride. "But next time, try not to be so reckless."

Naruto grinned, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.

"No promises, sensei." He quipped, his confidence unwavering.

As the tension thickened in the air, a massive figure emerged from the shadows of the trees, landing effortlessly on the water's surface as if it were solid ground.

Zabuza stood tall amidst the mist, his imposing figure shrouded in the ethereal haze. With a voice that carried a weight of authority, he spoke.

"I am Zabuza Momochi, one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist." His declaration echoed across the tranquil surface of the lake, punctuating the tension that hung heavy in the air. Kakashi, poised for battle, regarded him with a mix of caution and respect, acknowledging the formidable reputation that preceded Zabuza.

"And what brings one of the Seven Swordsmen to this quiet corner of the world?" Kakashi inquired, his tone guarded yet tinged with curiosity. Zabuza's response was curt, his gaze unwavering as he spoke.

"Business. Nothing more, nothing less." In that moment, the air crackled with anticipation, the stage set for a confrontation between two formidable adversaries.

Naruto couldn't resist interjecting, his tone laced with cheeky defiance.

"Shouldn't it be the Six Swordsmen now, that you've lost your sword?" He quipped, his grin widening despite the danger. Zabuza's eyes narrowed dangerously, his voice dripping with menace.

"Watch your tongue, boy, or I'll cut it out." He growled, his hand instinctively reaching for the absent weapon at his side. But Naruto remained unfazed, his confidence unwavering.

"But you gotta find your sword first." He shot back, his tone brimming with bravado. "And last time I checked, you're the one who threw it away."

Ignoring Naruto's taunts, Zabuza turned his attention to Kakashi, addressing him by his infamous title.

"Ah, the copycat ninja." he mused, a hint of amusement in his voice. "I've heard stories about you."

Kakashi met his gaze evenly, his expression unreadable behind his mask.

"Likewise." he replied coolly, a flicker of recognition in his eyes. Before their conversation could progress any further, Zabuza began weaving hand signs with practiced precision, his chakra coalescing into a dense mist that shrouded the forest in an impenetrable veil. But Naruto was quick to react, his mind racing as he formulated a plan. Channeling his chakra into multiple paper talismans, he created a protective barrier out of chakra walls.

Around himself, his teammates, and the bridge builder, shielding them from the swirling mist. With a series of swift movements, he then launched several water talismans into the air, their surfaces shimmering with chakra as they absorbed the mist and neutralized its effects. As the mist began to dissipate, revealing their surroundings once more, Kakashi couldn't help but offer a word of praise.

"Nice work, Naruto." He remarked, his voice tinged with admiration. "Your quick thinking saved us from a sticky situation." Naruto smiled modestly, a sense of pride swelling within him.

"Just doing my part, sensei." He replied, his gaze focused as he closed his eyes, searching for the telltale flicker of Zabuza's chakra signature amidst the lingering mist.

As Zabuza's frustration boiled over, his curses echoed through the clearing, his irritation palpable at being outmaneuvered by a novice shinobi. Naruto's keen senses, honed by years of training and sharpened by the presence of Kurama's chakra, allowed him to detect another faint chakra signature amidst the swirling mist, despite the veiled concealment it offered. With a furrowed brow, Naruto stepped forward, his voice carrying a note of urgency yet remaining composed as he warned.

"There's another one out there. I can feel it, guys. Stay sharp." Sasuke's eyes narrowed, his hand instinctively moving to the hilt of his own weapon as he scanned the misty surroundings.

"Another one? Great. Just what we needed." He muttered, his tone laced with sarcasm. Karin, though visibly unnerved by the prospect of facing yet another unseen adversary, mustered a brave façade, her voice trembling slightly as she asked.

"Do you think it's another one of Gato's lackeys?" Naruto shook his head, his expression focused yet determined.

"I'm not sure. But whoever it is, we need to be ready." Zabuza's eyes flashed with a mix of fury and apprehension as the truth dawned on him, his grip tightening around the hilt of his long-dormant katana. With a swift motion, he unsealed the weapon from its ninja scroll, the metallic ring of steel slicing through the tension-filled silence.

"You little brat." Zabuza growled, his voice dripping with disdain as he glared at Naruto.

"You think you can outsmart me? You're just a whelp, barely worthy of being called a shinobi." Naruto's jaw tightened, his resolve steeling as he met Zabuza's gaze head-on.

"Call me what you want. But you're the one who's about to lose." Kakashi, recognizing the imminent threat posed by both Zabuza and the mysterious presence concealed within the mist, made a calculated decision. With a practiced motion, he unfurled his headband to reveal the Sharingan, its crimson tomoe spinning hypnotically as he prepared himself for the impending confrontation. Acknowledging Naruto as the primary target of Zabuza's ire, Kakashi positioned himself strategically, his protective instincts kicking into high gear as he resolved to shield his young charge from harm.

As Zabuza surged forward with a primal ferocity, his katana gleaming menacingly in the dim light, Kakashi leaped into action, intercepting the deadly slashes with a flurry of precise movements. The clash of metal echoed through the clearing as their blades met, each strike reverberating with a primal intensity.

"You're quick, but not quick enough!" Zabuza growled, his voice laced with a hint of frustration as he pressed his assault. Kakashi, his visible eye gleaming behind his mask, responded with a smirk.

"You'll have to do better than that, Zabuza. I've faced tougher opponents than you." Meanwhile, amidst the chaos, a sudden searing pain lanced through Naruto's shoulder as an ice senbon pierced through his flesh, eliciting a grimace of discomfort. The numbing coldness of the projectile sent a shiver down his spine, his fingers tingling with the chilling touch of frost.

"Gah, what the...!" Ignoring Naruto's plight, Sasuke narrowed his eyes, his focus sharpening as he assessed the situation. With a cold detachment, he made a calculated decision, prioritizing the task at hand over his teammate's well-being.

"We can't afford to lose focus." Sasuke muttered, his voice devoid of emotion. As Naruto grappled with the pain of his injuries, Sasuke remained resolute, his resolve unshaken by the chaos that surrounded them. In the heat of battle, there was no room for sentimentality or compassion, only the ruthless pursuit of victory.

As the senbon struck the talismans holding up Naruto's barrier, the chakra walls crumbled, leaving him vulnerable. With a swift motion, a mirror materialized between Naruto and Sasuke, a prelude to the figure's sudden appearance. The masked figure, clad in attire reminiscent of the Hunter-nin of the Mist, executed a split kick, catching both Naruto and Sasuke off guard. Their heads snapped back from the impact, sending them staggering backward. Naruto gritted his teeth, his senses alert as he faced their new opponent.

"Who the heck is this guy?" The figure wasted no time, launching a barrage of senbon towards Sasuke before redirecting his attention towards Naruto. Sasuke groaned in frustration as the senbon struck his legs, rendering him momentarily immobile.

"Damn it..." With precision and speed, he unleashed a flurry of needles aimed at Naruto's vital points. Reacting swiftly, Naruto conjured an earth talisman at his feet, erecting a makeshift barrier to shield himself from the deadly assault.

"Not so fast!" As the dust settled, Naruto regained his footing, his gaze locking onto the floating ice mirror that appeared behind him. With a determined glint in his eyes, he lunged forward, striking the mirror with a decisive blow, shattering it into countless fragments. But his victory was short-lived as Haku emerged from the shards, poised for another attack. Naruto braced himself, his muscles tensed as he prepared to face his formidable adversary.

"You're pretty fast." Naruto remarked, his tone edged with determination as he sized up his opponent. Haku, his features hidden behind the mask, remained silent, his gaze focused and unwavering as he assessed Naruto's movements. With renewed determination, Naruto conjured multiple paper shurikens infused with wind release, ready to counter Haku's ice-based techniques with his own formidable arsenal. The stage was set for a clash of titans, each combatant poised to give their all in pursuit of victory.

As Haku's ice senbon hurtled towards Naruto, the fox boy retaliated with a flurry of Wind Release paper shurikens. The two forces clashed mid-air, the opposing elements canceling each other out in a dazzling display of power. Undeterred, Haku swiftly adapted, shaping the ice senbon into a makeshift blade, ready to engage Naruto in close combat. With lightning-fast reflexes, Naruto met his opponent head-on, his claws gleaming in the dim light as he lunged forward. Their duel unfolded with blinding speed, the sound of their clashes echoing through the forest. Each strike was met with a swift block or a graceful dodge, a testament to their skill and agility.

"Your agility is impressive." Naruto remarked, his voice tinged with admiration as he danced around Haku's attacks. Haku's response was a mere nod, his focus unbroken as he continued to press his advantage, his movements fluid and precise. Meanwhile, amidst the chaos of battle, Karin seized the opportunity to assist her comrades. With a determined expression, she carefully removed the senbon from Sasuke's legs, allowing him to regain his mobility.

"Thanks, Karin." Sasuke acknowledged, his gratitude evident in his tone as he prepared to rejoin the fray. Sakura watched the interaction with a mixture of emotions, her envy bubbling beneath the surface as she observed Sasuke's appreciation for Karin's assistance. With Naruto and Haku locked in a fierce exchange of blows, Sasuke knew he had to act swiftly. Drawing upon his training, he formed the necessary hand signs for the Great Fireball Jutsu, his chakra surging with determination. Naruto, ever perceptive, noticed Sasuke's intentions and seized the opportunity to create an opening. With a swift motion, he conjured paper clones to surround Haku, distracting him momentarily.

"Let's finish this, Sasuke!" Naruto called out, his voice filled with determination as they prepared to unleash their combined attack. Seizing the chance, Sasuke unleashed his Fireball Jutsu, a torrent of flames hurtling towards their unsuspecting opponent.

As the pillar of fire engulfed the battlefield, Sasuke's confidence surged. He watched with anticipation, believing they had finally gained the upper hand in their battle against Haku.

As the fireball hurtled toward Haku, Naruto acted swiftly, weaving hand signs with practiced precision. He summoned wind talismans and infused them with his chakra, directing their power to enhance the force of the fireball. With a mighty surge, the flames roared forward, propelled by the howling wind, creating a fearsome pillar of fire that seemed to pierce the very heavens.

From Naruto and Sasuke's perspective, it appeared to be a direct hit. Their eyes widened in anticipation as they watched the blazing inferno engulf the area where Haku stood. For a moment, there was a sense of triumph, the belief that they had finally bested their elusive opponent.

"Witness the power of the Uchiha!" Sasuke exclaimed, his voice filled with triumph as he witnessed the spectacle before him.

Amidst the intense clash between Kakashi and Zabuza, the roaring pillar of fire caught their attention, drawing their focus away from their duel. Kakashi's single visible eye widened in surprise, while Zabuza grunted in acknowledgment, his expression unreadable behind his bandages. Kakashi's gaze shifted briefly to Zabuza, his tone laced with curiosity as he remarked.

"Looks like Naruto's pulling out all the stops." Zabuza's response was a low growl, tinged with a hint of begrudging respect.

"Impressive. The brat's got some tricks up his sleeve." Despite their ongoing battle, both warriors couldn't help but acknowledge the display of power unfolding before them. It was a testament to Naruto's growth and determination, a reminder of the formidable opponent they faced in the young shinobi.

In the midst of their Battle, an ice mirror materialized behind Kakashi, signaling Haku's impending attack. Before Kakashi could react, a flurry of senbon hurtled towards his back, aimed with deadly precision. Kakashi gritted his teeth as the sharp needles pierced his flesh, the pain searing through his body. He stumbled forward, his strength waning as he fought to remain standing amidst the onslaught. Zabuza's smirk widened as he watched the scene unfold, believing victory was within his grasp.

With Haku's decisive blow, he was certain they would finally vanquish their formidable foe. However, his triumph was short-lived. To his surprise, Naruto, using the Flying raijin intervened at the last moment, seizing Haku's wrist and preventing the lethal strike from reaching Kakashi's vital organs.

"Naruto!" Kakashi gasped, his voice filled with relief and gratitude as he felt the younger ninja's presence beside him. Naruto's eyes blazed with determination as he faced off against Haku, seizing the opportunity to strike back. With a swift motion, he drove his claw into Haku's chest, causing crimson blood to spill forth. Haku recoiled in shock and pain, his composure crumbling as he struggled to contain the bleeding wound. Naruto seized the moment, his resolve unwavering as he defended his sensei against further harm. Meanwhile, Kakashi's strength faltered, the effects of Haku's attack taking their toll. With a pained groan, he collapsed to the ground, his vision swimming as darkness threatened to consume him.

Zabuza's rage reverberated through the clearing, his voice filled with fury and frustration as he glared at Naruto and Kakashi.

"You'll pay for this, brat!" Zabuza snarled, his grip tightening around Haku's unconscious form as he prepared to retreat.

"And you, Copy Ninja, don't think you've seen the last of me!" Naruto met Zabuza's glare head-on, his eyes ablaze with defiance and determination.

"Bring it on, Zabuza! We'll be ready for you!" Kakashi struggled to rise to his feet, his body still reeling from the effects of Haku's attack. He managed a weak smile as he leaned on Naruto for support.

"Well done, Naruto. You saved us back there." Naruto grinned back at his sensei, a sense of pride swelling within him.

"Just doing what needed to be done, Kakashi-sensei. We make a pretty good team, don't we?" Kakashi chuckled softly, his gaze shifting to the retreating figures of Zabuza and Haku. "Indeed we do, Naruto. But our journey is far from over. We must remain vigilant."

As the dust settled and the echoes of battle faded, Naruto stood tall, a sense of accomplishment washing over him.

As Naruto tended to Kakashi's wounds, Karin's curious gaze lingered on him, her eyes scanning for any signs of weakness. Sensing her scrutiny, Naruto couldn't help but feel a prickling sense of unease, though he remained focused on his task.

"What are you staring at, huh?" Karin snapped, her tone sharp as she tried to divert attention away from her curiosity.

"Don't you have better things to do than play nursemaid?" Naruto shot her a sideways glance, his expression guarded.

"I'm just making sure Kakashi-sensei is okay." He replied evenly, masking any vulnerability. "Unlike some people, I actually care about my teammates." Naruto retrieved several medical talismans from his pouch, each one pulsing with a faint, healing glow. Carefully, he placed them over Kakashi's wounds, the symbols shimmering as they went to work. Meanwhile, Sakura's praise for Sasuke fell on deaf ears as the dark-haired boy brooded over his perceived shortcomings in battle. Frustration gnawed at him, knowing he hadn't been able to keep up with Naruto's lightning-fast movements.

"Wow, Sasuke-kun, you were amazing out there!" Sakura gushed, oblivious to Sasuke's inner turmoil.

"You were so brave and strong!" Sasuke's response was curt, his frustration evident in his tone.

"Shut up, Sakura." He muttered, his voice laced with irritation.

"You weren't much help." Sakura's enthusiasm faltered at Sasuke's dismissive words, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

Naruto focused on his task, carefully placing the medical talismans on Kakashi's wounds. With a surge of chakra, the symbols glowed red, their healing energy seeping into Kakashi's body. The wounds closed, and Kakashi's strength began to return, much to the amazement of the group.

"Wow, Naruto, that's incredible!" Sakura exclaimed, unable to contain her surprise.

"I mean, I guess Sasuke could do better, but still..." Sasuke remained silent, his eyes narrowing as he watched Naruto work. He knew he had a long way to go to match Naruto's skill and determination. Karin, her curiosity piqued, leaned closer to examine the talismans.

"How do these work?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine interest. Naruto glanced up briefly, his hands never stopping their work.

"They're infused with chakra and specific healing techniques." He explained. "They accelerate the body's natural healing process."

Sasuke nodded, finally acknowledging Naruto's prowess.

"You've gotten stronger, Naruto." He admitted quietly. "I need to catch up." Kakashi, feeling the effects of Naruto's treatment, sat up slowly, testing his newly healed body.

"Thank you, Naruto." He said gratefully. "Where did you learn this?" Naruto grinned, a hint of mischief in his eyes.

"Self-study." he replied nonchalantly. "I figured I needed to be able to take care of myself." Kakashi chuckled, impressed by Naruto's resourcefulness. "Well, you've certainly surpassed my expectations. We need to keep moving, though. We can't afford to stay here any longer." With Kakashi back on his feet, the team prepared to continue their journey.

As Naruto finished creating the gigantic paper fox, he turned to his companions with a grin.

"Hop on, everyone! This will get us there much faster and safer." he declared, gesturing to the fox that now sported multiple saddles. Kakashi raised an eyebrow, impressed by Naruto's skill.

"Why didn't you suggest this earlier?" he asked, curious. Naruto scratched his head sheepishly.

"It's a bit taxing on the mind and chakra, especially with a group, But since we're almost there, I figured it was worth it." he explained. "I didn't want to risk it until we were closer to our destination." As they all climbed onto the paper fox, Sasuke grumbled under his breath.

"I can't believe we're relying on Naruto for help." He muttered, annoyed. Karin and Sakura, however, were more vocal in their complaints. "We could have used this from the start!" Sakura exclaimed, frustrated.

Karin nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, we wasted so much time." she added, shaking her head. The bridge builder, observing the ninja's interactions, simply shook his head.

"Ninjas sure are a strange bunch." He mumbled to himself.

As they touched down at the bridge builder's home, the paper fox dissipated, reforming back into Naruto's body. He staggered slightly, panting heavily from the mental strain of maintaining the jutsu. It wasn't just a matter of chakra; the level of focus required was immense, and any lapse could have resulted in disaster. The girls, oblivious to Naruto's struggle, were caught up in their own world.

"Oh, how romantic." Sakura gushed, landing on the ground. "If only it were just us and Sasuke here." Naruto chuckled dryly, trying to catch his breath.

"Yeah, because this mission is all about romance." He quipped, rolling his eyes. Kakashi, ever observant, noticed Naruto's exhaustion.

"Great work, Naruto." he praised, patting him on the shoulder. Sasuke scowled, feeling a pang of jealousy at the attention Naruto was receiving.

"He's just showing off." he muttered under his breath, though his words were lost in the chatter of the others. As they gathered themselves, the bridge builder opened the door to his home, calling out for his daughter. The team followed him inside, eager to rest and regroup after their intense encounter. The daughter, a petite woman with a warm smile, greeted them as they entered the home.

"Thank you so much for bringing back my dad." She said gratefully, her voice tinged with relief. As they were shown to their rooms, the daughter continued to express her gratitude, thanking them profusely for their bravery and kindness.

"Please, make yourselves at home." She insisted, gesturing towards the cozy accommodations. Once inside his room, Naruto wasted no time in flopping onto the bed, exhaustion weighing heavily on him. He closed his eyes, welcoming the embrace of sleep after the intense battle. However, his rest was short-lived as Karin and Sakura barged in, their voices laced with disdain.

"Typical Naruto, always sleeping on the job." Karin scoffed, her tone dripping with sarcasm. Sakura chimed in, her voice sharp with criticism.

"Honestly, how lazy can you get?" She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. Naruto shot them a glare, his frustration bubbling to the surface.

"Why don't you two shut the hell up?" He snapped, his temper flaring. "I'm the one who did most of the damn work out there!" Karin rolled her eyes, unfazed by Naruto's outburst.

"Sure, sure, keep telling yourself that." She retorted, her tone mocking. Fed up with their constant nagging, Naruto flipped them off, his middle finger raised defiantly.

"Whatever, I'm going to bed." He muttered under his breath, his voice tinged with irritation.

"Ungrateful bitches." With that, he turned away from them, pulling the covers over his head in a futile attempt to block out their incessant chatter. As he drifted off to sleep, he couldn't help but wonder how he had ended up with such troublesome teammates.

The bridge builder, his curiosity piqued, turned to Kakashi with a furrowed brow.

"I couldn't help but notice." He began. "Naruto's rather unique appearance. Those fox ears and tail... How did he come to possess such features?" Kakashi paused, considering his response carefully.

"It's... a bit of a mystery, to be honest." He replied. "No one really knows how he acquired them. They just... appeared one day."

Karin, unable to contain her excitement, eagerly interjected. "It's because Naruto has a demon inside of him!" She glanced around, expecting looks of awe or fear, but instead was met with stern expressions. Kakashi swiftly moved to silence her, placing a hand over her mouth and shooting her a warning glare.

"That's classified information." He said firmly. "We can't discuss such matters outside of Konoha." The bridge builder looked puzzled, clearly surprised by the revelation.

"A demon, you say?" He mused, glancing at Naruto's room.

"I had no idea..." Sakura, always eager to contribute, added.

"Yes, everyone in the village knows about Naruto's... condition. But we keep him around because... well, because we have him under control." Kakashi shot her a warning look, but Sakura continued, undeterred.

"He's a monster, but he's our monster." She said with a shrug. Kakashi sighed, realizing that the bridge builder was likely overwhelmed by the information. He decided to change the subject, steering the conversation towards more pleasant topics. The rest of the evening was spent in discussion, with Naruto's unique situation lingering in the back of everyone's minds.
