"AHHHHHHH!!!" Josh screams the loudest he has in the last couple of hours, and I stop doing the spell.
"Why you stop?" Davina asks, as she stops at well.
"We're not getting anywhere; he should rest." I walk over to Josh and help him from the floor to be seated in a chair. "I got you turned into a vampire only a few weeks ago, but have some strength."
"Maybe we should play some music." Davina suggests, and I nod.
"You like jazz?" I ask Josh, and he lets out a huge sigh. "You're in the city of jazz and don't like the music?"
"It's...not my favorite thing." Josh says out of breath. "Too old."
"Well, you must be a hoot at the parties." I state, sitting down on one of the chairs.
"I was. I used...to love to go clubbing." Josh states.
"Clubbing?" Davina asks. "How old are you?"
"Twenty."
"Hey, I'm nineteen." I state. "Well, technically speaking."
"Really, you look younger." Josh states. I lean on the arm rest and point at him.
"You know, I am really starting to like you."
"Wait, as in used to, do you mean years ago?" Davina asks.
"Yep, went all the time when I was sixteen...which seems like such a long time ago now." Josh immediately looks at me and says, "I did not mean that in a rude way."
"No, sixteen for me was a long time ago and those years are wayyy past me. But it is interesting seeing young people reminiscing about their 'young days' when they are still in their prime years." I say with a smile, and Josh closes his mouth.
"I never went clubbing, even though I'm sixteen now." Davina states and I agree with her. Technically speaking there were no clubs when I was sixteen but that is beside the point.
"Wow...I remember when I was your age, I went to a hundred of them. And everything was so much simpler. Meets boys, have fun." Josh pauses. "But now, everything's so different. Now I want to meet boys and...feed on people's blood. Get one of those daylight rings...so I don't burn in the sunlight. All normal things..."
I then see Davina walk away for a moment, to a violin. That violin that belonged to Timothy. I can't say I understand how they feel, because I've have a millennium of the supernatural. Nothing that happens to me now is really a surprise...I guess if you don't count the whole me being mortal now. That was certainly a surprise.
But they are both so young. I haven't really felt this sense of sympathy for those who were forced into the supernatural in a long time. I thought I felt this way for Elena, but I quickly realized she drew herself in by falling for those Salvatore brothers.
And I realize Davina was born a witch, but she never asked for all this power. Nor did Josh ask to be a vampire. Now, I can see by the looks on their faces, the regrets, of taking being normal for granted.
"Classical," I state, and they both face me. "My favorite genre. It's soothing and can always calm me down when I've had a bad day."
"I like the classics." Davina states, and comes to sit down with us. "I used to play their music. It soothed me as well...but not anymore."
"Why not?" I ask.
"I used to play their music on the piano. But now that I'm here...in hiding...Marcel is afraid someone will hear me."
"Well-"
"It's not his fault." Davina states quickly, and I raise my eyebrows. "He is just trying to keep me safe."
"Safe...from what?" Josh asks and we both turn to face him. I start to chuckle a little, and feel a glare from Davina.
"What? Your situation is a little funny." I state, and she rolls her eyes, facing Josh again.
"Basically, these psycho group of witches want to sacrifice me for some blood ritual." Davina says in a serious tone and I try to hold in my laughter.
"Oh..." Josh says with his eyes widening. Once I look at him, I start laughing again.
"Ignore her, she doesn't know what it feels like to almost lose your life." Davina states and I sit up with an offended face.
"Excuse me, but I ran away from my psycho blood-driven father who tried to kill me and the rest of my family for a better part of a millennium. I know more than you think." I explain and see an unimpressed face on Davina, so I glare at her.
"Wow, okay... I'm sorry-" Josh states.
"Don't be." We look at each other surprised, as we said that in unison.
"Well, my father is dead and rotting in hell now so, no need." I say with a smile, and Josh nods at me, a little frightened.
"And I am going to get my revenge and destroy all the witches." Davina states, with nothing but anger in her eyes. I don't know how, but it looks like her anger towards the witches grew in a few days. "And once I do, I will be free. I will be normal again." And a sense of relief goes over her face.
I could never understand how Davina is so certain that she wants to be a normal girl. I feel the moment you realize you're a witch, there is something inside of you that changes. This feeling, this sense of power surging inside your body. It's one of the best feelings to me.
But I never saw all my friends be sacrificed right in front of me as well. Regardless of the sacrifice worked or not, it can be pretty traumatic for a teenager. I do hope though that Davina will think this whole thing through. Because nothing sucks more than wanting to get rid of a power that makes you so unique and different from everyone else. At least that is what I believe.
"Kalle." Davina snaps in my face. "Are you ready?"
I turn to look at Josh, who is already down on the floor. Seemingly ready to go through this pain again.
"Yes, let's continue."
The sun is setting, and I have now been here for the whole day. Which, surprisingly, was not all that bad. My siblings have been at each other's throats, and it's nice to have some time where the people around me are not always yelling death threats at one another.
But after a few hours of screaming, the screams started to become quieter. Which meant the compulsion was almost broken.
"He's not yelling anymore, is that good?" Davina asks and I shake my head yes.
"That means I can almost go home and lie in the sweet comfort of my bed." I say happily.
We continue to do the spell, and I see the tiredness growing on Josh's face. He is excessively sweating, and breathing hard. This would have been way quicker if we just drained him...it would have been easier to get rid of him from the compulsion if he was weak.
"I believe that's it," I don't feel the influence of someone else inside Josh anymore. The compulsion is gone.
Davina drops down next to Josh, and I stay standing, leaning against her table.
"I'm done?" Josh asks, looking between the two of us. We both nod. He slowly starts to sit up from the floor to the same level as Davina. "You're right... I feel free. Before, I was always thinking about what Klaus wanted me to do."
"Oh, I can imagine the torture." I state, and Josh gives me a short laugh.
"Before, all I could do was obey him. But now...screw that guy!" Josh starts to laugh, and I crack a small smile as well. But I see Davina is not as happy.
"Well, that is not the face of someone who just broke the compulsion of an original." Davina looks up to me confused.
"We both broke the compulsion."
"Actually, I was just leading you on what to do, but you practically did all the work." I explain, and Davina looks at me a little surprised, but her sadness does not go away. "Seriously, what's wrong?"
Davina looks away from me, and looks back at Josh. "Marvel wants me to make you forget about me."
"That's what all this sadness is for? You do know you don't have to listen, or does Marcel have you compelled too?" I question and she rolls her eyes at me.
"She's right. I'll keep your secret, I mean...I owe you my life." Josh states in relief, but there is still an unsettling look on her face. "I mean if she could keep your secret, so can I."
"He has a point." I highlight.
"Yeah, I mean as long as Kalle doesn't tell Marcel about me." Josh states and I look at him confused.
"Oh, Marcel doesn't know about her," Davina explains.
"Re-really?" Josh asks surprised, and I cross my arms.
"You really believe Marcel would be cool with me, Klaus's sister, hanging out with his secret weapon?" I question, and Davina looks at him with the same knowing look.
Josh tilts his head, "Yeah that makes sense. Which also means you don't need to erase my memories. Besides...it has been nice hanging out with someone normal again."
"You think I'm normal?" Davina then looks at me. "You think she's normal?"
"Again, I have a heart you know." I state offended.
"You're a thousand-year-old witch who still looks like she's nineteen, and I'm a sixteen-year-old witch living in an attic at the church." Davina states.
"And I'm a gay club kid who died and came back as a vampire."
"Yep...seems pretty normal to me." I say with a smile, and I kneel down to them. "But I kind of agree...I like hanging out with you guys as well."
Davina's eyes brighten up at me, with an interested smile. "Don't get all excited on me, harvest girl. I've been running, tortured, betrayed, and deceived for a thousand years so my standards are pretty low."
"You know, I haven't known you for long, but that seems like a compliment." Josh states unsure.
"I've known her for a bit longer, and it kind of was." Davina says impressed, and I roll my eyes. Josh shifts his position so he is now fully facing us.
"Here, let's pinky swear on it. I won't tell your secret." Josh holds out his pinky, and Davina gladly takes it. Their attention then turns to me.
"Don't push it."
Davina and Josh then shake their pinkies together, I feel an alert, and take out my phone. Seems like my night just never ends.
Niklaus: I need you to come home now.
"Who was that?" Davina asks, and I look up.
"Trouble."
Once I get back to the house, all I hear is silence. Which is not a bad thing, but it's not exactly a good thing either. I walk around the house, to see where my brother is.
Then I walk into the living room, and see Niklaus sitting on the edge of the table. My sister is sitting on the couch. My brother has a smirk on his face, but my sister looks disgusted. However, neither Elijah nor Hayley are in sight.
"Nice to see you back, sister. But please don't tell me that look on your face is because Nik killed Hayley and daggered Elijah again." I say in a joking tone, and Nik looks at me.
"Oh, I'm not that cruel." Niklaus states, but I turn back to face Rebekah, who looks furious.
"Rebekah?" I ask.
"Really, you don't consider biting our brother cruel?" I immediately turn serious, and look at my brother in the same fiery manner. Nik does a short laugh, looking between my sister and me.
"Well, it sounds rather cruel when you don't explain the full story." Nik then looks at me, and gets up. "Elijah believes his new romantic interest about the intentions of my child, over myself, so I believed he needed a bit of a time out."
I walked up to Niklaus, having a whole speech I could give him about his behavior. New words that I never fathom saying, but over the past few weeks I have been at my wits end. Feeling enough anger boiling up inside of me that I could make him drop to the ground and beg for mercy. He would easily give Elijah his blood, and we'd be done.
But I say nothing. Because all of our words have no effect on him. No matter what we do, no matter what we say, his ways stay the same. The only thing that can save him is his child.
"What happened with Tyler?" I swallow down my pride and anything bad I had to say about Nik, a smile forms on his face, while I see shock on Rebekah's.
"Are you being serious? You're not going to say anything?" Rebekah asks irritated and I look down at her.
"No matter what I say Bex, he won't change his ways." I then look back at Nik. "A leopard never changes its spots, am I right, brother?"
"Ah, finally someone understands." Nik states and I narrow my eyes at him. "And to answer your first question Kalle, I let him go." He then walks away from me and I turn around frustrated.
"You did what?"
"Tyler is not a threat, nor should we treat him as one. Relax, sister."
"But if he tells Marcel-"
"He will not say a word," Niklaus declares, and then walks right in front of me. "I have made Tyler realize that the only reason he is living and breathing is because I let him do so. He is crippled down, not even having a sense to live anymore, and that is because he went against me." Sometimes he seriously makes me sick inside. "So when I tell you we are fine, you should listen."
He smiles at me, then starts walking to the door. "By the way sister, be nice to Marcel. I believe I may have been a little harsh on him and if I want him to trust me, I need everyone at their best." He then looks behind me. "Rebekah has certainly been friendly with him; maybe take some lessons from her."
Nik then walks out of the room, and I finally let out all my anger. A few glasses break around me, and Rebekah vamp speeds in front of me, and grabs both of my arms.
"Calm down, maybe that wouldn't have happened if you just confronted him." Rebekah states, and I angrily move her away from me. "Why are you more worried about Tyler than Elijah?"
"The bite won't kill Elijah. He may be suffering, but he will be fine. That baby is another story." I explain.
"What are you talking about?"
"Tyler knows about the child. Marcel is not Nik's biggest fan, and we both know that. If Tyler finds Marcel-"
"Marcel will know about our miracle baby," Rebekah states in realization. "So what should we do?"
"We are not doing anything. You are."
Rebekah squints her eyes at me. "I don't understand-"
"Marcel found our home, the same night you decided to leave. When we went over to the quarter earlier today, I sensed you. Which was weird, since you were out of town."
"Well, I came back earlier today so-"
"Rebekah, you may be able to trick our brother but you cannot lie to me. Just like I cannot lie to you." I state. I look her dead in the eyes, waiting for her to speak.
She slowly takes a deep breath and says, "I slept with Marcel."
Damn.
"I am getting seriously tired of the amount of men you get with, sister."
"You know Marcel was different."
"What I know doesn't matter, but what does matter is you need to use this...situation you have with Marcel to our benefit. Because if anyone is going to find out what Marcel has on us, it's you." I state.
"And what about Elijah?" Rebekah asks.
"I'll figure something out."
Rebekah looks behind herself for a moment, then turns to face me. "And Nik?"
I could tell by her look she was not accepting a simple answer. To be completely honest, I don't know what to do. We can't retaliate against him, because it will most likely end up with my siblings in a box and we seriously don't have the time for that.
Letting him do whatever the hell he wants is not an option either, but what can we do. The only person who seems to have a little say in Nik's actions keeps being the brunt of his anger. First the dagger, now a bite?
This child better be an angel from heaven sent to repent Nik's sins, or we are all screwed.
"I know he has been out of hand lately, trust me. But what can we actually do? You know what will happen if you try to go against him." I state, and Rebekah face becomes irritated. "Bex...I am trying really hard here to fulfill Elijah's wishes. And regardless of how we feel right now, he has a child on the way."
"That's the thing, Kalle. Do you really want this child raised by him?" Rebekah questions and I look at her unsure. "Exactly."
"I didn't say anything."
"You didn't say no."
"I also didn't say yes." I say with sincerity, and my sister shakes her head in disbelief. "Listen, I don't need you to trust Nik right now. I need you to trust our brother...to trust me. That's all I ask."
Rebekah looks at me for a few seconds in silence, before finally speaking. "Fine, I'll make sure Marcel brings no harm to that child."
"Thank yo-"
"But just so you know, Kalle, it is really going to bite you in the ass one day when you realize your dream of Nik's redemption is just a dream."
She then storms out angrily, leaving me in a room filled with sorrow and despair.
