Mako had been in numerous situations where his fight or flight was treated. When he first met Izuku on the playground he easily could have run to get a grow up, instead he ended up running in and punching Bakugo in the face. When the league of Villains attacked their class at the USJ, his first instinct was to join Aizawa in fighting the villains rather than escaping for help.
But a Viltrumite appearing seemingly out of nowhere, barely a few feet away from him and his friends, among easily hundreds of innocent civilians at the mall? Mako didn't know what to do.
His friends were no better than he was, each of them were shaken to their core by Anissa's sudden appearance as Mako was. Izuku's entire body tensed, his mind working into overdrive trying to think of what he could do. But if she was anything like Mako or his father? Then….then there was nothing!
With all the training him and Mako had been doing, he was able to get his control of One for All up but it still wasn't anything against a Viltrumite. And even if he decided to go 'screw it' and use 100% of his power then he'd just be down an arm and she would just be a little hurt.
And it wasn't just him, Iida's speed was good but comparatively nothing against a Viltrumite, same with Kirishima's hardening. Seto's strength wasn't an option, nor was Tokoyami and Dark Shadow, Uraraka's zero gravity wouldn't work because of how viltrumites flew, Kaminari's electricity wouldn't work either. Mineta's balls might actually stick to her but she could just tear up whatever surface they were attached to.
The only one who could do something was Mako, and from what he told Izuku about his last fight against Viltrumites, he wasn't sure if his best friend could get a total victory.
"Am I not using the correct language?" Anissa asked curtly.
"I heard you." Maki replied back, taking a step forward and putting himself between her and his friends. "What do you want?" He asked, his voice firm as his fists clenched for a fight. The woman glanced down at his hands and noticed, unperturbed by the subtle gesture she folded her hands behind her back.
"To talk." she replied simply, her eyes looking over Mako's friends, "I assume that your…friends, are informed of your situation?" she asked.
Izuku stepped beside Mako, "W-We are." he replied, cursing himself for how nervous he must have sounded. Anissa let out a hum of…amusement?
"Very well. I intended to have this in private. But if you are all aware of Invincible's position, then it's not needed." she said, turning to Mako directly as he glanced around the area around them. While the mall was crowded, their group wasn't being paid much attention by the other people there. Which was possibly the worst case scenario, if they were in private then it would mean less people in danger if a fight broke out.
She just took this entire mall as hostage without anyone even realizing it.
"Fuck!" Cecil growled as he made his way into the command room, all around him people scrambled to get to their work stations. On the wall filled with screens relaying different videos and information, the largest one showed Kiyashi Ward's shopping mall in Japan. Where Invincible and other students from Class 1A were face to face with a viltrumite. "Get All Might's scrawny ass back here ASAP. Someone get in contact with Star and Stripe, get her jets in the air and her on the fastest intercept route to Japan. And Mobilize the Guardians, all of them. I don't care what they're doing right now, pull them off it." he ordered aloud, knowing that at least three people would get on it since he ordered it.
Stopping besides Donald, who was looking over everything on his tablet, he asked, "How did she get here without us realizing it?" he asked, watching as their deep space systems showed no signs of detecting anything.
Donald grimaced, "Our satellites are designed to register large scale objects like ships or meteors heading for the planet which we can intercept. Anything around her size would burn up in the stratosphere on entry so we didn't pick her up." he explained. Cecil frowned at the explanation, "If she's aware of that, we can't say for sure."
"Shit." Cecil cursed as the doors to the room slid open with Toshinori Yagi jogging in. "We have a problem." he said to the symbol of peace.
All Might looked at the screen and his body tensed, he turned to Cecil readily, "You need to teleport me there now." he said.
"Out of the question, she's in a densely populated area. If we send you over there? Then that makes a warzone look like a playground." he told the symbol of peace as he took a headset from his jacket pocket and put it on.
"Audio is coming in!" one of the techs said.
"Very well. I intended to have this in private. But if you are all aware of Invincible's position, then it's not needed." the woman's voice said over the comm.
All Might grit his teeth, he looked at the monitor to his pupil, Midoriya's training has improved his control of One for All, but he's not near the level needed to affect a Viltrumite. He thought gravely. And the other students weren't prepared for this either, none of them were, they were just children.
"Mako, don't react, just listen to her-"
"-while we scramble heroes to your position. It's going to take time so keep her distracted. Ok?" Cecil's voice said in Mako's ear.
The half human continued to stare Anissa down, she looked over him again and saw that he still was tense and ready to fight. "I don't wish to fight you." she told him.
Mako frowned, "That hasn't been my experience with Viltrumites." he replied with a snide tone. The only Viltrumite he met that hadn't ended with him getting into a fight with was the General he met on Thraxa, and that was after he was too wounded from the fight he had with the other Viltrumites that had been sent after his father.
"Hm. How little you know of your own people." she remarked with a hint of dissatisfaction. Mako fought the urge to click his tongue, apparently she was disappointed that he hadn't been indoctrinated like everyone else in their culture? Good.
"Your not my people. They are." he said, tilting his head back to his friends.
Izuku glanced at his friend out the corner of his eye, smirking a little in pride before Anissa spoke again. "Oh we are your people. You simply haven't accepted it yet."
Mako ignored the twinge of fear that surged at that, "What do you want?" he asked bluntly.
Anissa looked around, rather unimpressed, by the mall and the people around them, "We have studied this planet." she said.
"Good for you." Mako snapped back.
"Human civilization at one point had a less than 18% chance of surviving the next two hundred years without the loss of billions of lives. However that changed when a genealogical anomaly spread through most of it's population." she explained. She looked over at Shoji and Mina, the latter's posture stiffening under her inspection. "This created a wide verity of mutations in the population, which led to violence not too dissimilar to our own history." she explained.
Iida frowned, "There is a very clear difference between a social shift of that scale and a purge of one's own species." he argued. Her eyes snapped to him, and while Iida was afraid, he stood his ground and held her stare.
"Indeed. Yet while your people have changed, you're still well on your way to millions of humans dying." she replied coldly.
Mako's stance hardened, "Is that a threat?" he asked.
"No. It's the truth." Anissa replied quickly. "Your society is facing overpopulation, massive famine, and an ecological disaster that is slowly but surely poisoning the planet." she listed off before gesturing around. "Yet there are hundreds, thousands of people whose abilities could fight against these problems, yet you instead only allow these to be used to…..fight others who use their powers without permission?" she asked critically.
Kaminari hissed between his teeth, earning a sharp elbow from Jiro beside him.
Mako frowned as well at the unfortunate truth she was saying, while their world could be ripped straight out of a comic book, that wasn't a good thing. They had millions of people who were heroes across the globe, but each year the world gets warmer because of a giant hole in the Ozone layer, hundreds die of starvation, and even trillions of homeless people. How is it they had a world where people had super powers, but there was someone who didn't have a roof over their head.
"I….I know." he admitted.
"And yet here you are, hands in fists worried about me instead of doing something about it." she critiqued.
"It's not that simple." was his reply.
Anissa scoffed, "Yes it is. With out technology we could repair the damage done to the planet, supply food to everyone, and even punish their criminals so they could focus their efforts on repairing their world." she responded. "We could achieve more in one year here then you could in a hundred."
Mineta swallowed, "That….doesn't sound too bad." he said, making the others turn and glare at him.
"Yeah, fascism always sounds good on paper." Mako replied snarky to his friend before turning to Anissa. "And at least I don't kill people who don't agree with me." he retorted.
"Yet you let thousands of people die, every day." she countered pointedly. "Human civilization is ruled by the powerful who wish to hoard resources for themselves. Food. Land. Power. All of them are collected by the ones with the most means and least well intentions." Her eyes scanned around the mall, Mako got ready to move should she decide to randomly attack a human to prove her point. "Even this place shows how far humans have fallen from your ideals." she pointed at a store. Mako followed her finger to a clothing store, innocuous at first but when he saw the sign in the window he frowned.
There was a sign saying, 'No Mutants' in the side window.
Mako glanced at Shoji, who also had an eye pointed that way on one of his tentacles, but his main eyes were still trained on Anissa….though they carried a bitter pain in them now. "Humans are so divided that they can't even hold one another to the same standard." she argued.
"A group of humans doesn't represent the entire people." Tsu spoke up. Anissa turned to her, the frog girl staring back at her. "Just because some people don't like others, or even hate others, doesn't mean that humans as a whole are wrong."
"So you allow this to continue? To what end?" Anissa asked her before turning to Mako, "You could easily stop this. Make an example out of these people."
"I. Don't. Kill." he reiterated.
"Then imprison them." Anissa replied with a annoyed tone, "Instead of standing here, doing nothing."
"I can't just stand here and do nothing Cecil!" All Might growled out as he watched the conversation play out. Toshinori hated it, his students were face to face with someone who could probably fight him to a near standstill and he could do nothing other than sit by and watch while they defended the concept of humanity. And they weren't winning her over, looking over at Cecil he saw the man looking down at a tablet Donald was holding.
"What the fuck do you mean they're not ready?!" he hissed out to whoever was on the screen.
'I mean that I'm still applying those upgrades I mentioned to you! If we sent them out into the field as they are now? Their targeting software wouldn't be able to discern friends from foe." the tablet said. Cecil gritted his teeth, closing the window on the tablet before the scientist on the other end could speak.
"How's the evacuation going?" he asked Donald.
The second in command looked at one of the monitors, "We alerted Mall security of the situation, they sent out the alert code to the stores and are moving people out through the various exits. The neighborhood surrounding the area is going slower, and heroes are en-route to help, Endeavor is on his way but he's ten minutes out." Donald explained as an airborne view of the number 2 hero was shown. Other screens showed other heroes on the way as well, "But we still can't get close to the actual scene without tipping our hand."
Donald sighed as he looked down at his tablet, "We've also run density scans on her CV and combat simulations give Mako a 18% of surviving a combat encounter with her." Finland also warned.
All Might's hands balled into fists while Cecil grimaced, "Of course they do." he bemoaned before raising a hand to his ear, "Keep her talking kid, ten minutes if you can buy it." he said before turning to All Might, "As soon as this kicks off, I'll teleport you in. You get your successor here."
All Might turned to him with raised eyes, "What?"
"You heard me. If this goes tits up and you wind up six feet under, that one is the next best chance." he said firmly.
All Might turned entirely to him, his frown deepening, "Cecil. I don't trust you."
"This isn't about trust, this is about finding the best way to keep us out from under Viltrumite rule until we can find a way to take these bastards down." he retorted coldly. With Izuku being the next inheritor of One for All, that meant two things to Cecil.
First and foremost, if All Might Died, then they still had a backup with the kid, it wasn't a nice way to look at things but that was the fact of the matter. And number two, with how One for All worked as a stockpile quirk, it meant that Izuku would be stronger than All Might at his prime, which considering he was able to match Omni Man in his current state meant that he would probably be able to beat this one if he was that far along.
But he wasn't and this was the only way to ensure he could be one day.
This was turning out to be yet another interesting day for Tomorua Shigaraki.
Setting Stain loose after his failed recruitment wasn't something that he was a huge fan of, but it had borne fruit in the following days with how his message had been spread across the internet. And that had caused a few…..recruits to show up at his door…..however truth be told, they weren't what he wanted.
He hated how Stain's ideology had somehow resonated with so many more people than his, and in lieu of simply killing those would be villains, which Kourogiri stopped him from doing, he instead decided to go on a walk to clear his head. Which lead him to the Kiyashi Ward Shopping Mall.
Which, as luck would hilariously have it, was where one of the people he so desperately despised was. Izuku Midoriya.
Along with, ironically, the most interesting 'hero' he had ever met, Invincible.
Ever since the USJ incident, he had been watching the exploits of the half human superhero closely. He had watched the video showing his confrontation with Omni man dozens of times, both out of finding it so satisfying to see one of the biggest heroes in the world turn out to be one of it's biggest threats. But because what he said resonated with him, humans, or rather the mass of people this world was populated by…..were simply sheep.
They were so distracted by heroes and their posturing that they were just ignorant to the real problems of the world. Omni-Man's betrayal had been a wake up call that the world needed. Shigaraki loved it, their finest hero not only a murderer, but a planet conquering fascist? Who beat his son near death for the world to see? And yet his son, Invincible, stood against him, and won.
Though he did get his face beaten in to do it. He managed to win by being unyielding with his principals, and Tomura could respect that in the same way he did Stain. But unlike Stain, he was actually interested in Invincible. He was wondering how long it would take before he went down the same path his dear old dad did.
So when he saw him being approached by an adult woman and being visibly scared of her, he couldn't help but have his curiosity get the better of him and subtly get closer, leaning against the wall around the corner as he listened to the conversation….
These Viltrumites weren't half bad. If they just got rid of the superiority complex he might actually agree with them.
"Excuse me, sir?" Shigaraki turned to see a security guard approaching him with a brisk pace, the young adult turned to him as he approached, "I'm sorry but there's a situation and I have to ask that you leave this premises."
"Nah. I'm good." Shigaraki replied.
The guard blinked before shaking his head as he reached out his hand, "I'm sorry sir but it's not a reque-" he began before Tomura grabbed him by the wrist. The man didn't get a chance to scream as he was in shock, watching his hand decay and his skin shrivel up as it spread up arm and to the rest of his body.
"Like I said. I'm good."
"That's not my call to make." Mako replied to Anissa's hypothetical solution. "It's not my place to judge others just because I'm stronger than them." he added.
She tilted her head to the side, "Is that what you think? That we simply use our power to rule over those because we can?" she asked him. "We're making the universe a better place, it's not always a clean way I'll admit. But the hard choice rarely ever is." she told him evenly. "It's clear that you care deeply about humans, and there's no fault in that, their lives are valuable, but the empire can help improve this planet so that no one needlessly dies from hunger, disease, crime, or even the climate." she reasoned.
Mako pressed his lips together, the offer of being able to fix all of earth's problems, problems that he personally had no idea how to even begin to fix, definitely had an appeal to them. But honey coated promises didn't blind him to the truth, how humans were only valuable to the empire because they would be serving them, dead humans were less enslaved humans.
"Look, I'm sorry but I'm not convinced." Mako finally said after his silence, "Earth has it's problems, but these people, my people, need to make their own decisions…..even if they're sometimes wrong." he explained diplomatically.
Anissa's brow creased, "I don't think you understand Mako Metuki. This isn't a negotiation." she said sternly. Mako saw her fists clench.
He balled his own and raised them as he slid into a stance, beside him, Izuku's skin glowed with the power of his quirk while Iida's engines popped out of his calves. 'Kid she's stronger than you. You gotta watch it.' Cecil's voice warned in his ear. He frowned in response to the news, he assumed so but knowing that for a fact wasn't exactly helpful.
But that didn't dissuade him, "I think you should leave now." he replied firmly.
Behind him, Mineta and Kaminari both looked at him in disbelief. Beside the duo, Jiro and Momo both were in a state of disbelief that this was even happening. Uraraka and Tsu were fairing a little better, however neither knew what they should, or really could, do in this situation.
Kirishima's skin hardened, but beside him Mina looked between Mako and Anissa in disbelief. This was supposed to be a fun get together at the mall for their summer trip, how did it….devolve into this?
Anissa sneered at the half human, "I'm sorry to hear that…..but remember, I started with reason."
Before any of them could react, Anissa has closed the distance between her and Mako and swung a uppercut right into his jaw! The force of the impact caused a shockwave which knocked the others back and Mako was sent spiraling up through the walkway above them and into the sky above!
As izuku regained his barrings, he locked onto where Anissa was-only to find her gone! "W-What?! Where did she-" he asked, turning his head around in search of her.
Meanwhile, Mako forced himself to a stop in the sky, miles above the shopping mall, his entire jaw feeling sore and blood leaking from his nose from the reverberations. He looked down and saw how far away he was from the ground. Before he could begin his flight down, Anissa appeared behind him in a blur of speed with her hands raised above her head, clasped together as she reeled back for her next attack!
Mako barely turned around in time to see her swing her fists down in a axe handle, smashing into the back of his head and sending him back down to earth just as fast as he had been lifted off! Below him, Izuku finally looked up to see the outline of his descending friend, "Everyone back!" he said, turning on his heel and launching himself away with One for All, grabbing onto Kirishima and Mineta while Tsu used her tongue to grab onto Jiro, the others scattered as fast as they could away from the projected area of impact.
When Mako hit the ground, the ground itself felt like a small earthquake, knocking everyone off their feet and away from the center of the slid across the ground, his grip slipping on Kirishima and Mineata who slid into one of the garden cubicles housing trees inside the mall. He looked around and saw his friends were all in a similar state of recovery. Momo, who had been grabbed by Shoji, was in a pile with the other student as they tried to regain their sense of direction.
Kirishima had been closest to the impact and had been launched through one of the nearby kiosks but wasn't the worse for wear due to activating his quirk earlier. Tokoyami had been engulfed by black shadow as a makeshift shield but the extension of his quirk looked frazzled by the impact and retreated back into his master.
His head turned in search of Uraraka, only to see a sandals drop down from the air, looking up he saw that she had used Zero Gravity on herself and leapt away at the last second. The shockwave of the impact sending her up into the air, but she seemed to have pivoted off the walkway that Mako was sent through and so was a reasonable height above the ground.
She turned to him and relief flooded her face, only to be replaced with shock, "Iida!" she cried out, Izuku's eyes widened and he followed her gaze.
Iida had grabbed Mina and tried to run a safe distance away, however it seemed that the impact, which had caused debris to go flying, had struck him in the head! Mina was hovering over him, a look of distress on her face as she held the side of his head where blood was leaking from in a concerning amount!
A woosh of air settled over them, and Izuku turned to see Anissa hovering over the impact spot in annoyance. Anger coursed through him and before he could stop himself he launched himself at the Viltrumite!
Anissa turned her head to the teen who launched himself at her, "15% Detroit SMASH!" he yelled as he slammed his fist into the side of her face! The punch making a burst of air pressure as she was knocked back through the air!
Uraraka blinked in surprise, she knew that Deku had improved where he could use part of his full power….but she distinctly remembered that when he showed it off a few weeks ago, he was using it at only 5%.
Anissa was apparently shocked by it at well, looking at the human in disbelief she rubbed her unbruised cheek, "I….actually felt that." she said with a hum before the ground below her burst apart and Invincible, in full costume, rose up with a rising attack that barely moved her. "That as well." she amended before quickly punching Invincible back into Izuku, the two friends hitting the ground and recovering.
Invincible turned to him, "Get out of-" he began before Anissa's knee was driven into his face, the hero's body plowing back through the ground before smashing into a storefront. Izuku went on the offensive again and leapt at Anissa, intentionally overshooting her with the intention of attacking her from behind, however this strategy proved faulty as she simply rose up through the air with a fist outstretched and rammed it into his chest.
CRACK!
Uraraka swallowed upon hearing the audible sound of his bones being broken, reacting quickly she pressed her fingers together and released the zero gravity hold on herself. Dropping to the ground she sprinted towards Izuku and the woman at full speed, she needed to get Deku out of there!
Izuku felt all the air leave his lungs as few of his rips broke, slumping off her outstretched fist, she quickly caught him by the back of his neck before he could hit the ground. "You were brave boy. Stupid, burn brave." she said.
Urarka watched as her thumb pressed up against the underside of Deku's chin, her mind went back to the USJ, when Omni Man had so easily dispatched the villains without so much of an ounce of effort.
She was going to pop his head off.
"NO!" she cried out as she reached them, her hand reaching out not to Izuku like she initially planned, but Anissa.
Bun instead of the pink glow that usually emanates from her fingertips….it was….yellow?
Her hand touched Anissa's outstretched arm, and suddenly she felt like a large weight had been tied down to it! Making her drop the inheritor of One for All. Anissa looked down at her arm in surprise, but before Uraraka could grab Izuku and run, a wave of vertigo came over her so powerful it made her drop to her knees! Her vision darkened as her sense of balance tried to recover, however whatever she had done to Anissa wore off as quickly as it afflicted her.
The Viltrumite swung her foot back with her target being Uraraka's head, only for the girl to be shoved aside by a head of red hair at the last moment, the lazy kick slamming into Kirishima's chest and sending him flying across the mall and into a wall on the far side, embedding him into the stone with a footprint on his chest, his skin cracking around it.
"KIRISHIMA!" Mina cried out in worry.
From behind her, the storefront Invincible had been burst apart as the young hero flew out and cracked her across the face, "NO! YOU DON'T TOUCH THEM! IF YOU DO?! I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!" he yelled in a rage that he never felt run as deep as this, unleashing a combo of punches to Anissa's head, other Viltrumite was temporarily taken off guard by the strength of the blows, blood flying out of her nose before catching his hand..
"Understood." she replied, moving to the side as she pulled him towards her, making him fly in front of her where she drove her knee up into him and knocking him up and following him with a left hook that sent him flying. The Viltrumite shooting off in a shockwave after him.
As she left the scene, the remaining students who were still standing rushed to their classmates' sides, "Midoriya!" Mineta called out as he ran to his side, "Are you ok?!" he asked with genuine concern as the green haired teen struggled to push himself up off the ground, his breath coming out in wheezes as blood dripped out of his mouth.
Jiro had slid over to Uraraka, who was trying her hardest to stay awake but was losing that battle. Momo was over by Iida, using her quirk to create bandages to dress his wounds with.
As Mina ran across the mall to check on Kirishima, a doorway opened up in the center of the mall and All Might in his full form stepped through, flanked by GDA medics and agents armed with assault weapons. "Get the injured back through the doorway, now!" he ordered the others, looking over at his pupil, he saw Izuku managed to get himself up onto his knees, holding his chest with his hands while looking at him.
"A….All….Might-" he wheezed out, the teacher closed in on his student and kneeled in front of him.
"Easy there young Midoriya, these men will take you to the GDA where Recovery Girl is waiting to treat you all." he explained as he gently, despite his enormous form, took his pupil by the arm and helped him onto his feet as some medics came over to escort him.
While the GDA agents spread out, Shigaraki knew it was time to leave, while he enjoyed seeing the U.A. brats getting their shit rocked by the Viltrumite, he knew that if he stuck around he'd soon be ID'd. As he retreated the way he entered the mall, having crossed the distance to the alley between stores he entered from during the confusion, a grin stretched over his face. He had been wondering why Stain had such a following, and it had been frustrating for him to not see why, but now he did. People admired Stain for the same reason he admired the Viltrumites, their ideals. They believed in them so absolutely that they couldn't be swayed, it was the same with Stain.
While Tomura had seen him as stubborn, now he understood that he simply held true to his ideals of what a hero should be and the fakes that populated the world. The Viltrumites saw that humanity was flawed and were determined to do something about it, and while he realized that early on into eavesdropping on their conversation, it didn't fully click together until he saw him.
All Might. The problem was All Might, that lumbering jackass was able to distract the world and it's sheep, to pull them from the harsh reality that the world really was with his heroics. All Might was the real problem…and he needed to do something about it.
Another punch landed on Mako's face as he was flying back from the last one, sending him down into a park where people quickly reacted and scattered away from as the central fountain exploded from his collision with in. The young hero winced as he rolled onto his feet, the glass of his goggles falling off as he moved, his hands rose up ready to fight just as Anissa collided with him again, thankfully Mako had raised his arms to block the kick to the chest but it only dampened the impact, making him slide back across the ground.
She disappeared from sight, faster than Mako had ever seen even his father move, realizing this was a repeat of the last time he turned and swung his fist blindly. Anissa leaned her head to the side, dodging the punch as she cocked her own fist back and uppercutted into the side of his chest just below his armpit. Mako yelled as pain screamed through his body, flying up through the air in a roll which he barely managed to recover from.
"This lesson ends when you accept your destiny Mako Metuki." Anissa said as she floated up after him at a leisurely pace.
Invincible rubbed the now sore spot beneath his arm, "I'm not a good student." he glibbed, making Anissa sneer. She launched herself at him again, Invincible once again readied himself to defend, only for her to swoop around to his side and land a crushing right hook to the side of his face! Blood splattered out from the impact as he spun through the air. She quickly followed up with a shot to his gut which expunged the air from his lungs and finishing off with an elbow to the back of his head, sending him face first down into the remains of the fountain.
Lifting his head up from the now bloody water in the remains of the fountain's basin, his head was suddenly slammed down by Anissa's boot on the back of his head! "Are you learning now?!" she yelled down at him as his hands reached up to try and gain leverage on her foot.
While Invincible could hold his breath for hours he still needed to get a breath of air to hold in!
And with how she attacked him, he wasn't able to do so before being basically drowned in the fountain. He held what little breath he had regardless, feeling a growing burning sensation in his lungs as he tried to pry her foot off his head but to no avail! He tried to maneuver himself so he would slip out but she merely pressed his head down harder!
Anissa looked down at the half Viltrumite pitifully, "I expected more from the son of Nolan."
"LUNAR SPIN!" Anissa turned her head just in time for a armored heel to slam into the side of her head as Miruko the Rabbit hero arrived on the scene, The blow of the impact knocked the Viltrumite back a few feet, allowing Mako to raise his head up from the water, inhaling a deep breath and trying to get his breathing back to normal. Miruko landed beside him, a feral grin on her face. "Oi, oi, oi! Nobody gets to kick my runt around like that!" she declared.
Invincible pushed himself up to his feet, "Miruko, get out of here!" he told her as he floated up off the ground.
"Kid she's the only one who was close enough, the others are on their way but you gotta keep her in place for them to converge." Cecil told him though his earpiece.
Anissa looked at the other woman curiously, "It seems that humans are stronger than our initial reports indicated. No matter." she said before zooming towards Miruko. The other hero waited until the last possible second to launch herself up as Anissa threw a punch aimed at her head, Miruko took the chance and preformed a spinning front flip, swinging her foot forward at a high speed to gain momentum before cracking the Viltrumite in the back of the head, making her stubble forward slightly.
She growled as she swung a fist back to try and clip the Rabbit hero, but Invincible flew over and with a elbow extended slammed into her side, making her face scrunch up in discomfort, her other hand flew out in a backhanded strike, cracking Mako across the jaw with blood spurting out from his split lip.
As he was sent through a tree, Miruko launched herself at her once again, "LUNAR-" she shouted before Anissa appeared in front of her, the Rabbit's hero's red eyes widened at the speed before she grabbed Miruko by her leg.
With a flick of her wrist, Mirko's left leg snapped past her knee, breaking it at the knee joint with her bone sticking out of the bloody laceration. Miruko bit back the yell of pain that threatened to ripple out of her throat, Anissa raised her other fist but was swurpised when Rumi twisted her hips and spun her other foot into the side of her head! Her grip loosened, Miruko landed on the ground with her hands first and her one unbroken leg supporting her.
Miruko's look was borderline Manic, "That all you got bitch!?" she challenged.
Anissa shook her head, "You people are insane." she decided before Invincible slammed into her from behind.
"STOP THIS!" Mako roared in a rage as he unleashed a flurry of blows to Anissa's body, whatever semblance of peace he still hoped to have was gone. Anissa gritted her teeth, twisting her elbow back and slamming it into his right eye. Continuing with the turn she punched him away from her, though the park and into the side of a five story building and out the other.
Anissa flew off after her target as Miruko fell to her one knee, "Fucking shit…..that hurts…." she grounded out though clenched teeth as she looked down at her torn up leg. The sound of footsteps made her turn to see a doorway open and GDA Agents step out, "Oh fuck you guys where the hell were you?!" she bit out as two medics each took one of her arms and helped her up while two more carried a stretcher over. "I don't need a damn stretcher!"
"Fucking hell." Cecil growled out as he saw the footage of the scuffle in the park, he turned to Donald, "Where are we with Stars and Stripe?" he asked, watching where All Might's trajectory was in relation to where Invincible and the Viltrumite were heading. He had been tempted to use his teleportation to try and head the two off and drop All Might in front of them but with how fast they were going and how quickly they could change direction it might be fruitless.
"The jets with her are still 45 minutes out and that's with them going at Mach 9." he told him. "Other heroes are converging but…."
"It'd be like lambs to slaughter." Cecil sighed, looking a the live footage of Miruko being taken to their emergency room. "Number 5 Hero in Japan and she's like a toddler playing with a full grown man." he said in disbelief as he shook his head. "What other options do we have?" he asked.
Donald sighed, "We have three aircraft carriers, all prepping jets for takeoff. One has a experimental Q Bomb but….with how fast they're moving, they could be a thousand miles away before we get a target lock and that's if they can get out of a populated city." Donald said said with a shake of his head. He pursed his lips together in frustration, they had been doing simulations for what to do if Omni Man suddenly returned to earth and began attacking, their perceived worst case scenario that they could reasonably counter against.
But they were stuck in the weakest part of their plan, scrambling to get heroes on site, looking over at his boss, Donald could see that the multiple teleports had taken a toll on Cecil with the sweat on his brow. Then again that could be from this entire situation, regardless Ceil couldn't run the risk of burning himself out in case they needed to extract wounded heroes like they did with Miruko.
But with how things were going, Mako wasn't going to last much longer…unless…
"Sir, we do have one other option."
Invincible grit his teeth as he skimmed across a rooftop, trying his best to angle his body to do the least amount of damage possible to them so they wouldn't topple over. Turning around to face Anissa as she flew after him, he raised his arms up to block the next attack, the force of which changing his course towards the road below them! Hitting the pavement and plowing over the asphalt, cars swerve wildly out of the way to avoid him before swinging his feet up, flipping back onto his hands and springing off them into the air just before he hit a busy intersection.
Flying up, he glanced around the area and cursed under his breath, they were nearing the coast of Japan, but they were still within the City. Anissa zoomed towards him again and continued her attack, Invincible failing to raise his guard before her fist crashed into his right eye which was now swollen from the constant abuse. That particular blow sent him flying over the ocean, thankfully away from the more populated city, but also away from any backup that could arrive to help.
Then again, given how she had so easily dispatched his friends at the Mall, the last thing he wanted were others showing up to end up with worse fates.
Deciding to try a different strategy, Mako didn't fight against the momentum he had gained and instead flew along with it, flying through the air with Anissa gaining on him but not on top of him in an instant. Invincible bit back a curse, with how he done against the other viltrumites on Thraxa he had hoped that he now stood a fairly reasonable chance against any that showed up at Earth, however Anissa was proving that was a dumb assumption on his part.
There as an island fast approaching that had a small town on it, so he decided to touch down on the far side near a large farming field. Turning to face Anissa, he saw that she had also slowed down and was looking at him expectantly, "You have a mission, assigned to you by your true people, amd you WILL complete it." she threatened him as Mako wiped the blood coming out of his nose.
"Mako, listen to me, say you'll do it. Say, 'Fine, I'll take over the planet.' " Cecil instructed him, sounding like he hated the idea as much as Mako did upon first hearing it. He spat out the blood in his mouth onto the ground to his side. "You can't beat her kid, just say it and we'll get ready for these assholes together." he told him.
It made sense, lie now, swear fealty to Viltrum, and work right under their noses to rise up against the empire…..but it was Mako swearing to Viltrumite Beliefs that made his stomach crawl. Because to him, it was agreeing with them, it was agreeing that everything that wasn't a Viltrumite was a lesser being. That he would just agree and sit by while they enslaved countless worlds throughout the universe while he was complacent in it.
It meant that he would have to compromise what he believed.
So naturally, there was only one thing to say.
"No." He growled out, glaring defiantly at Anissa.
The viltrumite looked at him unimpressed, "Kid…." Cecil sighed almost sadly before he charged at her, swinging a fist out which she ducked under. Stopping, he turned to press the attack with another left hook but she retaliated before he got the chance with a upward jab to his ribs, blasting him into the sky again. As the pain in his ribs flared, she flew up after him and caught him by his heel before once again throwing him back down to Earth.
The Viltrumite chased after him as he fell, his impact into the ground was followed quickly by her own feet coming down onto his chest. Invincible's lungs screamed in agony as they were stressed to the verge of their breaking point. Groaning in pain his eye fluttered open just in time for Anissa's boot to come down on his neck, "Anything to say?" she asked him.
Invincible gritted his teeth, "Uh….thanks, I think you cracked my back with that, feels much better now." he replied flippantly. Anissa glared down at him before reapplying pressure to his neck.
"You really don't understand do you? How much danger your in right now." she asked him as he grabbed her leg to lift off just enough so he could get a minimum amount of air in his lungs. "You've been appointed the Viltrumite agent of this planet. That is not up for debate." she said before lifting her foot from his neck. As Invincible inhaled a deep breath, she continued with her speech. "Your free to ignore your duties, but that will bring….consequences." she informed him as she folded her arms over her chest. "Our forces are currently occupied, which is the only reason we can't replace you."
Invincible looked up at her defiantly, "Your can choose to oppose us. Your free to deny these people you claim to care about the Utopia we would bring them. Or, we can flatten their entire species while we take what we want." she threatened darkly before kneeling down over him. "One day, a replacement will come. And if you are still defiant to our rule? He will make you, and this entire planet suffer. I pray you come to your senses before then." she told him before lifting off from the ground and flying away faster than Mako could hope to keep up with.
When she was gone, Invincible fell back down into the crater he was in, "Ugh…..that sucked." he groaned out.
He laid there for about ten minutes, getting his baring and letting himself finally catch his own breath before he heard the shimmering doorway beside him with Cecil stepping through. The young hero pulled himself up into a sitting position, "Our sattlies are tracking her trajectory out of the solar system, she's gone." he informed Mako, who could only let out a sigh of relief at the news. "That was a risky play you did. And all over a few words." he noted.
Mako looked straight ahead, silent for a few seconds before replying, "It's not just some words Cecil." he said the corner of his eye, he saw something he never had before.
Cecil smirked.
Stepping forward, the older man offered Mako a hand, he took it and was helped up onto his feet, "How's the damage? I tried to make sure she didn't kill anyone but-"
"No casualties, which everything considered is a small miracle." he informed him, "Your classmates are banged up but we got Recovery Girl tending to them now." he told him. Mako let out a breath of relief at the news, "I got some calls to make. Lot of people saw what happened and are gonna want to know why someone dressed up like Nolan when he first came here was fighting you." he explained. "Drop by the Pentagon later." he told him before walking through the doorway.
Mako nodded as his boss walked through, the young hero set his hands on his hips and looked around him at the crater. "I need to get stronger." he decided.
"Hey you!" Invincible's head lifted up and turned to the voice, at the rim of the crater he was in the middle of were two small children. Both of which wore large sun hats on their heads, they were a boy and girl who couldn't be no older than ten or eleven. The girl stood in front of the boy, her hands on her hips balled into fists as she leaned over to look down at him. She had a pink dress on with sandals, her brown hair tied into pig tails on the side of her head.
Behind her, a younger boy was behind her with most of his body hiding behind the girl's as he looked nervous as Izuku tended to be. Besides his matching sun hat of the girl, he wore a pair of blue overalls and a white shirt with his own pair of sandals. "Mahoro what are you doing?!" he asked her in a scared whisper that Mako could hear.
She turned to him, "He ruined our field Katsuma!" she replied back to him before turning to Invincible, "You ruined our field!"
Mako winced, "Oh, crap." he said before floating up off the ground towards the kids, the two children skittered back in alarm as he hovered towards them. "Is anyone hurt?" he asked in concern as he looked around. While he had meant to avoid the town near the bay of the island, he hadn't realized that their fight had taken them to a sugar cane field that was on the same landmass.
Thankfully there wasn't anyone around the immediate area, the fields around them was just beginning to have the sproutings of sugar cane but the large crater Anissa made with his body took out a noticeable dent in the produce.
Katsuma and Mahoro, the girl still standing while the boy had tripped over himself backing up, stomped over to the floating hero. "No! But you could have hurt us if you had come down over there!" she said accusingly, pointing a finger at the house down the road. Mako frowned, if he had struck there then that house would be nothing but rubble, and these kids….
"I…..I'm…." he shook his head as he sighed, touching down on the ground, bowing his head in shame, "Your right. I'm sorry." he said.
The girl, whose mouth opened to continue her point, closed, "...you what?" she asked.
Mako kneeled down in front of her, "You're right. I could have caused a lot of damage if I came down over there. I couldn't really control where I crashed but still, that's no excuse. I'm sorry I scared you guys." he apologized sincerely. The girl blinked, seemingly unsure of what to do next as she didn't expect a genuine apology from the hero.
"Um….mister hero…sir?" the boy spoke up nervously, Mahoro looked over at her brother with a raised eye, "Um…we would have been ok, we were…playing on the other side of the house when we felt the ground shake." he explained nervously, feeling bad upon seeing the hero's saddened expression. It was bad enough he was hurt with a black eye and blood down his nose and dripping on his costume, but seeing him upset made him feel guilty for his sister's words.
And he could tell that Mahoro was also taken aback by how he had taken the reprimand so personally.
Mako shook his head, "Still though, your….um, sister?" he asked, raising a brow at the gril who nodded, "Sister is right. I did damage your property…." he trailed off as he looked at the size of the crater. "Actually, if you give me a second…" he said before turning around to the crater's edge.
Unlike what movies and comic books sometimes implied, when a crater is formed the ground isn't just bent downward from the impact of force, instead it's pushed up and around the point of impact. With this crater, the earth had been plowed out and around the center where he had hit the ground, so the ground around the hole had risen up to match what was pushed aside.
Shoving his hands into the ground, he pushed the soil back into the hole until the section of earth was level with the surrounding ground. He repeated this around the rim of the crater until it was mostly filled with the only evidence being the loose soil and the slight indentation in the earth. There wasn't any way he could reasonably gather all the remaining earth as there was a significant amount that had been blown up into the air and scattered around, so the damage wasn't fully repaired to be good as new, but it was much better than a hole in the yard.
Of course, moving the ground around caused his hands to be absolutely covered in dirt, fingers and gloves included. "Oh this is gonna be fun to wash out." her muttered as he wiped his hands together. Looking back at the children, he saw that they were looking at him in awe, the two having watched him out of curiosity and staying once they saw exactly what he was doing. "Sorry, it's not exactly the same as before.I can't recover whatever was planted here, but I can pay to replace the crop that was lost." he offered.
Katsuma balked at him, "W-What!? No! You-you don't need to! You already did so much!" he said with admiration.
Mahoro blinked at her brother, truth be told she might had laid it on a little thick with the blame, but that was partially because Mahoro was here. She had been mad that part of their home had been wrecked, but to the hero's credit he cleaned up after himself. Their father had taught both of them that when they made a mess it was their responsibility to clean up after themselves, and this guy had done it before she could point that out to him!
"It's no problem. Hang on a second." the hero said before reaching into his back pocket only to frown, "Crap. No paper. Um. Do either of you have a pen and paper? I'll write down my contact information so your parents can get in touch with me and tell me how much I owe." he said.
Mahoro turned to her brother, about to ask him to go get what he wanted from the house. But when she saw the look on her brother's face, the awe he had when he looked at the hero…..
"Katsuma! You stay here and make sure he doesn't go anywhere." she told him.
He turned to her, "Huh!?" he asked in a quiet voice before she ran off. "HUH?!" he asked again. He watched as she got further and further away, turning around he saw the hero give him a small smile and shrug his shoulders.
"She's the boss." he said before floating off the ground before crossing his legs and lowering himself down.
Katsuma felt like his sister just shoved him off a bridge, betrayed like never before. "Uh-uh-uh!" he tried to get something out, but his nerves were getting the best of him. However when the hero coughed raggedly, his nerves were replaced by concern, "A-are you alright mister?" he asked shyly.
Invincible held up a hand before spitting some blood out onto the ground, "Yeah, I'm fine….just a little roughed up." he admitted, there being no use in denying that he was indeed hurt. Making sure there wasn't any blood on his teeth by wiping them with his tongue, he flashed the little boy a smile. "But I've been rouged up a lot worse." he added.
Katsuma visibly relaxed at the news, as he looked at the hero, he seemed so familiar, like he had seen him before. The colors were familiar, but then again how many other heroes had black, yellow, and blue costumes? The only thing odd was the mask that made the letter-
Kastuma gasped, "Y-Y-Y-Your Invincible!" he exclaimed in shock.
Mako looked down at himself, wondering why exactly that took so long to figure out until he realized his mask had been torn up in the battle and without it? His looks were pretty unrecognizable. "Oh! Yeah, that's me." he confirmed before seeing the boy was now mesmerized by him. Upon seeing Invincible now looking at him, his nerves returned with a vengeance, playing with his hands as he looked down at them unsure what to even do with himself. Thankfully, having grown up with Izuku, Mako recognized the boy's anxiousness. "So, you live here with your sister and your parents?" he asked politely.
Kastuma looked up with a blush on his face before nodding, "Y-Yeah! Me and Mahoro, and our dad. But he's in town right now." he added.
Mako noticed that he didn't mention a mother, but decided it best not be brought attention to, "Must be nice having a sibling to play with." he noted.
Katsuma smiled, "Yeah. My sis is the best….but….well…." he looked away shyly, "She….doesn't really like heroes…." he admitted. Mako bit back a chuckle, that was pretty obvious. Realizing how that must sound, he quickly raised his hands, "B-But that doesn't mean she doesn't like you!"
"It's fine." Mako said with a wave, "I mean I did trash your guy's yard." he said, looking over his shoulder. "That's not the best first impression." he admitted. Katsuma looked down and blushed shyly. "What about you?" he asked.
Katsuma nodded with a small smile, "I do….I even saw your fight with the Giant earlier today on TV! He was so huge! But you knocked him around like it was nothing!" he said was reminded that 'The Giant' was actually a young child with a out of control quirk, but Katsuma didn't need to know that little tidbit. "I gotta ask…..weren't your scared? He was…..he was really big."
Mako felt his lips pull into a smile, before he could answer however, Mahoro returned, "Here!" she said, sticking a pen and paper in his face. "And you better not be trying to scam us." she warned.
Mako shook his head as he quickly wrote his name and number on the paper, "Don't worry. Oh, and if I don't pick up tell your dad to leave a message, sometimes I fly though areas with no signal." he added before handing the paper to Katsuma. The little boy looked down at the signature that Mako left with awe. As he stood up, dusting his hands off as best he could, he looked down at Katsuma, "And to answer your question, yeah I was a little scared. But I was more scared about what might happen if I wasn't there." he answered.
Mahoro quirked a brow at that before he turned towards the West, "Have a good day!" he said before taking off into the sky and flying towards the United States.
Washing his hands off in the ocean on his way to the Pentagon, he was led met by Donlad who led him down to the sub level of the facility where the GDA headquarters was located. "We teleported the families of the students here, the ones who were injured were priority, they're all here now while we get statements." he explained to Mako as they walked through the halls of the Goverment Agency.
The last time Mako had been here was after that business with the Mullers, he hadn't been physically hurt too badly by the fight but seeing all those clones die right in front of his eyes was a shock for him. The memory wasn't as visceral as used to be, but it still made him subtly flinch.
Donald led him to a door that slid open, inside he Inko Midoriya sitting beside a bed which Izuku occupied. Inko turned, with red eyes from crying, to Mako and let out a breath of relief, "Oh thank god your safe!" she breathed out in relief as she stood up from her chair and walked over to Mako, giving the young man a tight embrace which made him groan. Inko flinched back, "Oh sweetie I'm sorry!" she apolgoized.
Mako raised a hand, "It's ok, I'm good….what about Izuku?" he asked as he looked at the bed and found…
Izuku Midoriya…..smiling?
"Mako! Heeyyyy buddy…." he greeted with a slur to his voice. Mako blinked at the tone his friend had.
"He had some cracked ribs but Recovery Girl healed most of the damage. We put him on painkillers to help." Donald explained.
Izuku raised a hand from bed, "One drugs please." he said with forced soticsim before giggling to himself, "Heh….Drugs. Funny." he laughed out.
Whatever worries Mako had for his friend melted away, and the smile that stretched over his face was one of both relief and amusement, "Ok this is hilarious." he said before looking at Inko, only to see her staring at her son with a frown. Mako turned to Donald, "Um, Donald, I can find the others from here. Thanks man." he said, his eyes darting to Inko silently to give him a silent signal.
The man nodded, "Ah….yes, of course. If you need anything, don't be afraid to call." he said, giving Inko a nod before leaving the room.
When the door slid shut, Mako placed a hand on Inko's shoulder, the woman turned to him and found him looking at her with concern, "Ms. Midoriya, are you ok?" he asked with concern.
Inko stared at him before looking at her son, "I….Mako….why does this keep happening?" she asked in a sad voice that took him off guard. "First there were those Villains at the USJ….then on his internship, he had to fight that dangerous villain, and then in the Invasion he had to fight their leader and now…." she trailed off, shaking her head as tears built up in the corners of her eyes. "Why does my baby keep getting hurt?" she asked him.
Mako took a deep breath, when he was growing up he remembered how his father would take off for days, sometimes weeks on end to deal with something hero related. All the while it left him and his mother to worry about him, and whenever he got upset about his dad being gone, or him maybe being hurt, his mother would try her best to console him until his dad came home, and told him it was all going to be ok.
"Ms. Midoriya…..it's….." he began before sighing. "It's the way the world is." he said, Making Inko look at him. "I wish it wasn't. But we don't choose when bad things like this happen to us. All we can really do is choose how we act when those moments come." he said as he turned to his friend who was int he midst of his painkiller induced haze.
Inko shook her head, "He's just a child…..you both are." she said lowly. "It's not right."
Mako shook his head, "It's not." he agreed.
Inko bit her lip before turning back to him, "Mako…are you…..are you both happy at U.A?" she asked. The young Viltrumite blinked in surprise at her sudden question, "Ever since you both joined that school…you both have been through so much, and aren't they the ones who are supposed to be responsible for you?" she asked firmly.
Mako raised a hand, "Ms. Midoriya….." he trrailed off as he thought of what to say, "Look, your not wrong. U.A. has a few things going on that I didn't really agree with." he admitted, thinking of how lenient they were with Bakugo. "But they're doing their best. No one expected a Viltrumite to show up out of nowhere. And if anyone should have it probably should have been me."
"Mako-" she shook her head.
"But honestly U.A. is one of the best things to ever happen to me or Izuku. He's happier there then I've ever seen him." he admitted truthfully. Going to school for the longest time had been hell on earth for the both of them. Getting into U.A. was like a second chance at life in a lot of ways, for both of them. The door behind them slid open, they both turned and Mako smiled upon seeing Uraraka standing with her hand raised as though she was about to knock.
"EEP!" she yelped before bowing her head, "oh! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to open the door it….sorta…did that itself." she said bashfully as Mako walked over, the brunette rubbing the back of her head.
"Your fine…are you ok?" he asked.
Uraraka hesitated for a moment before nodding, "Yeah just…something happened back at the mall and….I'm not sure what it is." she replied vaugely before shaking her head. "But that can wait for later, is Deku ok?" she asked. Mako smirked before stepping aside and gesturing to the bed where Izuku lay, relief flooded Uraraka's face before seeing the other woman, who was tilting her head to the side in confusion.
"Oh! Ms. Midoriya, this is Uraraka, me and Izuku's friend from school." he introduced.
Uraraka's eyes suddenly widened upon realizing, by both Mako's introduction and the familiar facial features that the woman shared with Deku, that this was his mom. "Ohmygosh!" she quickly bowed her head again, "It's nice to finally meet you Ms. Midorya! Deku has told me a lot about you!" she said politely with a hint of nervousness in her voice.
Inko balked at the girl and quickly returned the gesture, "N-No please! It's so nice to meet you! My son tells me about you every day! It's nice to finally put a face to the name!" she replied with an equal amount of politeness and nervousness.
Mako, standing between he two of them, looked between them before coughing into his hand, "So, Uraraka, how are the others?" he asked, Ochako looked up from her bow before standing upright along with Inko.
"Well, Iida got hit on the head from some Debris, it knocked him out and gave him a nasty cut but he's already up and moving." she explained. "Kirishima got banged up pretty badly but his quirk took the brunt of the impact. He's going to stay overnight, his moms are here and they're not leaving his side." she explained before crossing her arms over her chest, "Everyone else is busy giving statements. I tired using my quirk on that woman but…..it kind of messed with me?" she explained.
Mako tilted his head, "Really? How so?" he asked.
Uraraka opened her mouth but was stopped when deku grabbed his moither's sleeve, "Mom! Mom! Mom!" he said in a loud whisper. Uraraka tilted her head at the child-like voice Izuku now had. She turned to Mako who was back to grinning. "Mom…..who is that?" he asked, pointing at Uraraka.
Uraraka walked forward a little, and upon seeing the dazed look in Deku's features put two and two together. "Um…..hi Deku….it's me…..Uraraka….your classmate." she greeted him, trying to suppress the wobbly grin she now had.
Deku slowly blinked at her, "...OHHHHHHHH!" he suddenly gasped, making Uraraka spit out a laugh. He suddenly reached over to his mother, "Mom! It's her! It's Uraraka! She's that Angel!"
…
…
…
Mako covered his mouth and gripped it as hard as he could to hold back the sob of laughter that threatened to spill out when he saw how Uraraka's face had become bright red.
After Visiting Iida and Kirishima, both of whom's parents were there and was delighted to meet Mako. There was one last person that Mako had to check up on before leaving for home.
"MOTHERFUCKING SPACE BITCH!" Rumi Usagiyama cursed as she tried to move her braced leg out of the stirrup it was hoisted up in. The no. 5 heroine of Japan was bedridden with a hospital gown and a futuristc looking cast covering her leg. When she heard the door open, she turned and saw Mako there, "...you look how I feel." she greeted him.
Mako chortled as he walked over to the seat beside her bed, "That's rich coming from the one with snapped leg." he replied as his mentor laid back in the bed with a huff. I talked to your doctor on my way in, said that your gonna be laid up for a while." he said.
The pro heroine clicked her tongue, "Yeah. The ligaments in my knee are like string cheese right now, can't even move this thing, my kneecap broke too but I'll be getting surgery to replace it." she said with a casual shrug. "I don't mind the scar but the asshole doctors even told me that with what they hav it probably won't even scab over when they're finished." she said as she glanced over at Invincible, only to falter when she saw him looking down in guilt. She sighed, "Christ…..what is it runt?"
He looked at Rumi out the corner of his swollen eye, she tilted her head forward with an unimpressed look, daring him to try and deny that something was up. He sighed in defeat, "I just….all this happened because of me. I wasn't strong enough to stop Anissa from doing this to you, or hurting the rest of my friends and…..when I saw what she did to my best friend I just… I lost it." he admitted.
He had felt anger before, he broke Sinclare's jaw with a backhand when he found him, he obliterated the Reanimen that endangered Melissa, and even with Bakugo he didn't mind getting violent with even though he was holding back during their spar. And what scared him was that how easy it was for his trigger to be flipped sometimes, "I was….I wanted to kill her for hurting them." he admitted in a scared voice.
Rumi blinked in surprise, when Mako had interned with her he was surprisingly level headed. One of the reasons she didn't have a intern with her was that she knew full well that teenagers were dumbasses, but Mako's accomplishments as a hero thus far made him seem like someone she wouldn't have to constantly keep an eye on while she was trying to do her job. "Runt-"
"And I just-" he continued as he shook his head, "-I know what I can do…..I've seen what I could do if someone like me…..lets loose." he said, thinking back to the destruction of both his father on Earth and the Viltrumites on Thraxa. He had held drag so many bodies out of the carnage on the alien planet, it didn't matter that they weren't human, they were still people.
"Runt-" Rumi tried again louder.
"But with Viltumites I….I can't do that. I can't pull my punches because they're SO strong and-"
"Mako!" Rumi barked, snapping him out of his intensive thought process. The rabbit hero gave him a stern look, "Listen. I get it." she told him, he looked at her skeptically. "Look I know I come off as a battle junky, and I like a good scrap as much as anyone, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to fly off the handle every fight I get into." she told him. The tone of her voice sobered Mako up to the fact that she was, in fact, being serious with him, Rumi looked at her leg that was hung up, "You know that I could smash a engine block with my legs? You know the type of force something like that must have? And I use the same attacks on humans who are not anywhere near strong enough for that."
She turned back to Mako with a more even expression, "So I get it. Your scared of going all out because you don't want to seriously hurt someone. But you also don't want to pull it back when it counts." she said before flashing him a small grin, "But from where I'm sitting? You got nothing to worry about, your actually pretty smart…..for a runt." she added.
Mako smirked a little, "Thanks." he said before leaning back in his chair, "I do gotta work on getting stronger though…..all of us do."
Miruko looked at her leg and sighed, "Well for the time being I'm going to be sidelined. But hey, when I get out?" she asked him before turning to him with a feral look, "You and me are gonna spar, next time I see space bitch? I'm knocking that smirk off her face." she said viciously.
Today had started out with Mako and Izuku going to the mall for supplies for their camping trip, however it had ended with a good portion of his class being taken in by the GDA and debriefed after a Viltrumite arrived out of literal nowhere. So to say that Mako's day had been turned upside down would be an understatement. Having grabbed some cloths from a store on the way home, Mako rode the elevator up to his home in silence. So to recap, I'm free to keep doing what I've been doing, but the Viltrumites are going to send a replacement who will judge me and see if I live up to their standards. Oh and lets also not forget the hundreds of people online asking why another Viltrumite was here. He thought, the latter bit of information only being found out when he sent his mom a message telling her that he was ok.
Cecil told me I might need to make a statement. But I've never been in front of a camera before, and we haven't gone over how to do interviews in school. Maybe midnight can help me? Well I got a session with her tomorrow apparently. So I'll ask her then. He thought as the doors of the elevator slid open, his mother was waiting for him at the doorway, walking into his home she embraced him. "Hey mom."
She pulled back and winced when she saw his eye, "Oh honey."
"It's fine, looks worse than it is…..so how was your day?" he asked jokingly, trying to lighten the mood as his mother led him into the kitchen.
"Actually really well, one of Cecil's people dropped by who has done some babysitting for super powered people like you." she explained as she gestured to the dining aera where his little brother was on the ground, playing with some of Mako's old toys along with a young woman who turned to him.
Mako blinked, "Wait….aren't you-"
"Mako! Good to see you again!" Himiko Toga greeted warmly with a toothy grin.
AN: So…..how'd everyone like that season finale?
To be honest I loved it, it's so fun seing things translated from the comic to the tv screen with, like how Kirkman himself describes it, being able to do a second draft of the story. And rumor has it that season 4&5 are also in development now so hopefully after season 3 we won't have that long a wait between the seasons like we did with the first two. Also we're getting a Invincible game! And not the mobile one but one for consoles! It's early planning now but I am super hype for it.
And not to mention My Hero Academia starts back up soon and I cannot wait to start the beginning of the end…..or I guess we technically did that last season with the Dark Deku arc. You know what I mean!
Anyway aside from that, I had some personal stuff to deal with, mainly my house flooding in the basement which ruined a portion of my comic collection sadly. But I have digital copies of most of them so it's not a total loss. So I technically still own most of the Nick Spencer Spider-Man run. Also a fender bender with my car really stressed me out but everything is cool with that now.
So Anissa showing up here was actually going to be a bit later on than this, but I figured having her show up here works better narratively for a few reasons. One, it's shocking, we just had Mako meet Kregg and be tasked with taking over the planet. The show does this as well because a lot of the events that happened between those two points were already wrapped up through both the seasons.
And two, this happening here serves a greater purpose, it shows just how far the rest of class 1A has to go. I was going to have something similar happen like in the comic and the show, but I thought that might have been copying it a little too closely. So I wanted to take this chance to show exactly how 1A would fair against a viltrumite given their current status.
And while it's not great, it's not terrible either.
I'm really going to embrace change with this series, I always thought before that a good crossover is when you entangle two stories together. They intersect with one another once in a while but things for the most part stay the same for them. But now I've seen that when you want to get a interesting story, you shouldn't be afraid to change things.
There is this really awesome story on here called Ignited Spark by 3peopleinacoat, it's probably my favorite MHA fanfic right now. A lot of their work is on Ao3 so I recommend checking it out there. So when you catch up to it, you can see what else theyve done and see what exactly I'm inspired by.
It actually gave me inspiration to do a Spider-Man and MHA crossover with Deku as Spidey but in a vein as the recent Ultimate Spider-Man comic. However, given how we only have three astounding issues out right now, I'm gonna wait until that finishes a few arcs before I decide anything. And even then that would be something I update really infrequently, whereas this is kind of a monthly thing.
Now before I get to reviews, whoever 'Guest' is. Please, limit your reviews to one per chapter. I've been pretty patient with it but honestly I'm a little peeved that every single day for a while I got another review that was just more of what you wanted to see. I'm flattered, really, but Please stop as it not only inflates the review numbers but also spoils SO much of what's to come and not everyone has read the comics.
I mean I was reading reviews for this and you take up THREE full pages of reviews man. That's not fair to the others who want their voices to be heard.
Also, and this is something I've seen with a couple people's reviews…..why do you guys say the full names of the characters? I mean I just call them Deku or Izuku, or Midoriya, or whatever?
Thank you. Now for reviews:
Messiah of Authors: Yeah it is!
Awesomerebel55: Yeah her showing up like this is the intention, I mean in the book it's out of nowhere. I think the only indication is that she was on the cover and everyone was like, who is she?
Superpiecrce: That's something I'll deal with when we get that far.
Kaiju Emporer: Waaaaay to soon for that to happen.
Axel771: That is the correct reaction.
Abatkin08: You might need to re-read the comic, that doesn't happen until like near the end of the book.
Grimharry77: He's still alive, he showed up at the end of the hero killer arc.
Dragon King of the West: That's the other reason I choose Anissa, I did have a scene in mind where it was Mark facing down Shigiraki, but the question came up. "Ok what about when he lets deku go? What's stopping Mako from tearing him a new one right there?" so this seemed like a good way to get both scenes.
Peacebreaker808: Yeah but it was every day and while I'm at work for eight hours a day I can't really do anything about it. And by the time I get home I usually forget about it.
Max: Oh your fine man, and I mean there's no really big diviations in that fic. Beacon still falls, Pyrrha still dies, Yang gets her arm chopped off, Blake still leaves, etc.
I mean if I wanted to be creative with it I could have had Pyrrha live but Jaune die instead, or have Spider-Man swing in and save Yang but end up her getting hurt even more ala Gwen Stacy, that's what I consider to be a stark deviation in the plot. While in that fic there was just stuff added in between the plot of the show.
And I was doing that mainly because I didn't think I was creative enough to come up with something interesting. Like if I decided to have Cinder be captured by Spider-Man during the dance? What then? I didn't know, so I didn't do it. But later on I started thinking more creatively with what I could do stuff, like ok yeah if Spider-Man was there, roman would probably have already been captured by that point.
Instead I was trying to stuff Spider-Man stuff into rwby, and looking back on it while it added to the story, I don't think it was really that interesting in retrospective.
Nameless: No no that's fine, I'm working on handling criticism and that's a very fair one. And personally it's partly that I kind of get tired of following one scene for too long? Like I love writing Mako and Deku but after a while it starts to get stale for me so I figured I'd try and show what else is going on with a much different tone than what Izuku and Mako were dealing with.
Quatrz: Yeah it is, I was younger when I had that notion and I also had that kind of shoved in my face by the people I was listening to who also liked Spider-Man. So I was just repeating that. That being said I do prefer it when Spidey has low stakes stuff but him also occasionally saving the world I think is also very fitting. I just don't think it happens every other day or something.
I can't really say anything other than, and I realize how defensive and cringey this sounds, I was younger then and I'm older now. I'm not the same person I was four or five years ago. I just hope that my writing has improved and my creativity has as well.
Gu1w2st: Oh that's because Mako pulls his punches when fighting people. And we actually don't know when exactly MHA takes place in? We do know that it's the future but it's referred to as 20XX or something. I think I remember reading somewhere that technological wise they should be WAY more advanced than they are but because quirks basically made the world a dystopia for a while it was put on pause.
CommandantCo: Thanks man!
Mr. A: Oh yeah that definitely played a role in this.
Colossus Bridger: I thought of that but I felt like that would have been kinda….cheap? I mean I also thought of giving her viltumite powers through a blood transfusion but I quickly did away with that dumb idea.
Guest: I mean that Nomu was desgined specifically for All Might in mind so it just wasn't a good matchup. I mean Mako flew it into space, that's just not something All Might can do. As for Toga's quirk, that's a interesting point but I don't know if that's how it works? I mean she consumes blood and her quirk makes a substance that allows her to impersonate people. But then again she also is able to copy people's quirks as well later on so that would make sense that it's more than just the appearance since you have to have what makes that quirk work to be able to use it.
But also, how exactly would Toga get Mako's blood? She can't bite him and drink it, no syringe can peirce his skin as far as we know, so unless he's already bleeding that probably won't be easy to get.
Guest (2): That's a interesting idea but I also fear that takes away from the aftermath of it, because in the show Mark is having the thousand yard stare after it happens and kind of goes through a grieving process of sorts. And I think that's really important to not only Mark but the reader because it informs what kind of person mark is.
