Ginny would never say that she was a typical old-fashioned house-wife, in fact, she saw herself as the exact opposite of that. Staying at home to tidy the house and raise the children was never something she imagined doing. Her dream had always been to be a quidditch star. And that she was.
However, Quidditch was a dangerous game, everybody knew that, so when she fell pregnant, she chose to step back from Quidditch for the safety of her child. And now, she was pregnant with her second child and was once again taking a step back.
Though she was still a part of the Harpies, most of her life was spent at home… cleaning… cooking… and looking after the children - well, child. But, Ginny was completely okay with this. There was more freedom than she had expected in this unpaid 'work', and today, for example, Hermione would be coming over sometime in the early afternoon, as she has just reduced her hours at work for the same reason Ginny was currently home: she was also pregnant.
So, Ginny had decided to bake some cookies, brownies, and gingerbread men. Little James was unusually quiet and content today - he had been struggling with a bit of a cough and was currently extremely drowsy. Ginny had been so worried that she'd taken him to St. Mungos, but they had assured her that he was fine with some medicine.
The ambitious young woman couldn't remember the last time she spent the whole morning baking, and while the majority of it was done with her wand, she liked to implement some of the techniques she had observed Harry doing. The muggle way was both fascinatingly brilliant and painstakingly fiddly, messy, and long.
However, she very much liked the combination of the two.
As if by magic, James started to whine as she put the batch of brownies into the cooker and was able to turn her full attention to him. "There's my ray of sunshine, how are you feeling?"
James happily went into her arms and playfully pounded his fists against her. That was a great sign!
"That's right! Does Jamesy want to play?" she asked with radiating excitement.
Seeing her son finally happy and healthy after a few days of not being quite right was relieving. She felt a big weight of worry lift off her shoulders as she rested him in the living room with his toys. James instantly began to play by hitting them to make noise.
Ginny happily watched him play and wondered if this is why her mother was so happy to primarily be a house-wife.
While keeping a close eye on her son, she made him some lunch and took the brownies out of the oven to cool. She decided to wait until James decided he was hungry instead of sticking to the normal feeding time, as she wasn't sure if he was completely better. But that didn't take long. Ginny had decided to give him a gingerbread man with his normal lunch, and set the rest of the baked treats in the middle of the table ready for Hermione - and then Harry - to help themselves.
Ginny could have sworn she had only turned her back for a second… less than that! But as she looked over at her little bundle of joy, she noticed he had gotten into all of the baked goods after taking one bite out of the one on his plate.
"No, no, no!" she exclaimed, picking him up and setting him down away from it all. "James! That was naughty!"
"More," the boy said. Or at least, something along those lines.
"No! You aren't supposed to eat more than one of those!" she tried to explain. "Just one." Ginny let out a sigh. Her son had taken bites out of several of the baked goods. "You were very naughty."
Unfortunately, little James was too young to understand reprimands and just tried to reach for more. When she picked him up and moved away from them, then he started to cry and throw a tantrum. Just in time for Hermione to floo in and see the chaos. So much for showing Hermione how having a kid wasn't scary.
"Is this a bad time?"
"No, no! He was just supposed to eat one and now he's having a paddy," Ginny explained. "Feel free to help yourself, but avoid the bite marks."
Hermione looked amused and confused at the same time.
Ginny's day had gone from worried, to calm and relaxed, to crazily tense, all in the span of five hours. Having your sister-in-law see you struggling with your own child was embarrassing. Why did James choose today to act out? She hoped Hermione wouldn't judge this but to be honest, she did look like a mess. Ginny really wasn't cut out for this house-wife thing and wished she could jump on a broomstick and fly straight to the Harpies team practice. However, baby number two prevented that.
Ginny rested a hand on her noticeable bump, took a deep breath, and then approached Hermione with a smile.
