Sorry, not betaed! :/
James Potter and Ginny Weasley had more similarities than most people cared to even consider. Both of them were head over heels with another person who - at the time - didn't share those feelings or actively reject them.
James had fallen in love with Lily at first sight. He simply knew immediately that she was the one for him and his feelings never faulted, not even when she rejected him several times, ridiculed him, and hung out with that sleazeball Snivulus. Nothing stopped him from seeing just how amazingly incredible she was. To him, her personality was just as - if not more - beautiful as she looks. She was strong-willed, confident, and loyal. He simply could not fault her.
Ginny's fascination started very differently but was very similar. She had fallen for the idea of the-boy-who-loved and had dreamt over their future life together on several occasions. This 'love' turned into real feelings after meeting Harry and realising that he was nothing like the books she had read, he was better. Despite her testing her feelings and dating others, her mind always came back to Harry and she knew that he was the one for her. There was no comparison to Harry, in her opinion.
If one had seen both of their first dates, they would be astonished at the similarities. While Harry has been compared to both of his parents, during the first date, he definitely shone like his mother. And his father, James, was almost identical to Ginny Weasley.
James Potter was incredibly nervous about going on an official date with Lily Evans - was this really happening? The not-quite-a-man didn't want to get his hopes up too much just in case it didn't work out. He wasn't sure he could survive that much devastation.
Despite his nervousness, he didn't hold back. He would not waste this change of finally having her as his date. James had spent far too long getting ready and dealt with a lot of grief from all three of their friends. He had opted to wear some of his most formal robes, with relaxed slacks and a top underneath - had planned a meal and then flying - and hoped he wasn't over or under-dressed. All he knew was that she was going to look incredible despite what she chose to wear.
Even though James had built up the anticipation of this date for so long, the second he saw her, his mind had calmed immensely and he just saw her. He didn't think about what could go wrong, or even what could go right, but focused on just the evening they had together. If this was their first and last, then he wanted it to be one they both remembered for the right reason.
He had listened to what she said, how she felt and even changed the flying part of the date to a stroll around the lake. She was worth the change and besides, she had chosen to wear a dress, he didn't want anybody to see anything they shouldn't.
After the date, he was even more sure that Lily was the one for him, and he never looked back.
Ginny Weasley hadn't been this nervous in her whole life, including during the war. The war was simple: You win or die. This, however, had several different scenarios. They could have a great time, get married, and live happily ever after. Or, they could have a terrible date and avoid each other for the rest of their lives. Or, even, have a great date, but then decide that they should just be friends. Or… and this one almost broke her… what if he didn't turn up? Or one of them had stronger feelings than the other? She wouldn't sure she could survive that type of devastation.
Despite all of the uncertainty, Ginny had no intention of wasting this opportunity of going on a formal date with Harry. They had dated a bit in the past but it was nothing serious and definitely nothing that she could really call dating now that she had a greater understanding. Ginny spent far too long getting ready with the help of Hermione. She had elected to plan the evening and had opted for a nice meal and then a flying session - how on earth was she supposed to dress for that? All she knew, though, was that Harry wouldn't mind either way.
After all of the arrangements and how much Ginny had built up the potential date in her mind, she was surprised at how relaxed she was when it came time to meet up with him. She stopped thinking about several outcomes or possibilities and just focused on their time together.
They had talked for hours! It lasted so long that after dinner they had gone for a walk instead of flying to continue the conversation. She was so pleased that they did because she felt like she had truly understood who Harry really was.
By the time they bid each other a good night, she just knew that he was the one for her. She thought back to all of the times they had spoken in the past and couldn't help but smile at how far they had come together, she couldn't wait until they continued to go down this road together.
The main difference between James and Ginny was that he only lived his happy ending for a few years, whereas Ginny lived hers for more than double her life.
One may say that the quantity of time is the most important part of a relationship, but both James and Ginny would disagree with that sentiment. You could spend a hundred years with the same person and never discover who they really are. It's how you use the time that you have that builds up - or breaks down - a relationship.
Both of these individuals lived life to the fullest - neither of them let anything stop them from fulfilling their happiness, not a war, not disapprovals, nothing.
