Chapter 30: Field of Screams Part 1

It was a dark night on the lake of Duel Academy as several bats flew alongside a single boat with a coffin in it.

As the lid opens we see a woman with pale skin, long green hair, a crimson dress, and a gold choker around her neck.

Opening her mouth she grins revealing two sharp fangs.

In the infirmary, Jaden gasps opening his eyes.

"Jaden are you okay?" Syrus asks.

"Oh man. Weird dream. I saw a girl." Jaden said.

"A girl?" Syrus pauses.

"You must be feeling better if you're dreaming about girls." Ms. Fontaine said.

Looking to the side, Jaden saw Takeru laying in the bed next to him with bandages over his arms and one on his face while Ms. Fontaine was looking at him.

"What the heck happened to you?" Jaden asks.

"Same thing that happened to you." Takeru groans trying to sit up.

"Easy. You took quite a bit of damage." Ms. Fonatine said.

"At least you're all better now." Takeru said.

"Thanks to your quick thinking. Thank you for making sure I was okay." She smiles.

"Fix the 4 of us up and we'll call it even." Takeru offers.

"4 of us?" Jaden paused.

Looking over he saw Atticus was still in bed with Alexis next to him and Akiza was laying in bed as well.

"Wait was she a Shadow Rider?" Jaden asks.

"Yep and let me tell you she really roughed me up. I'm lucky nothing was broken." Takeru groans.

"Both are in stable condition but right now you two need to take it easy." Ms. Fontaine said as Alexis glanced at Takeru and Jaden.

"You know Madison and Jasmine didn't want to leave your sides. Ms. Fontaine had to drag them back to the Girl's Dorm." Alexis said.

"You don't say." Takeru blushes.

"One visitor per guest. Syrus was Jaden's guest and Alexis is Takeru and her brother's guest." She declares.

"I'll have to thank her when I get out of here," Jaden said.

"Yeah me too," Takeru said.

Back on the lake, the vampire lady stood out of her coffin and the bats flew into the night.

"Go my minions. Find me my prey so we can succeed where Nightshroud and Black Rose have failed." She orders.

Soon the rumors of a Vampire Lady had spread around the school.

"A Vampire?"

"Dude I saw her with my own two eyes or at least my roommate did. She's got these gigantic fangs."

"Wait it's a she?"

"I'm so not kidding. A girl vampire."

"Well, she better stay away from my boyfriend."

In Sheppard's office, all the key keepers except Jaden, Takeru, and Alexis were gathered together.

"A vampire?!" Chazz said in disbelief.

"That's right and I don't think the rumors are rumors after all," Sheppard said.

"Oh please. I bet it's some kind of practical joke." Crowler scoffs.

"A joke? It wasn't a joke that put Jaden and Takeru in the hospital." Bastion points out.

"Do you think she's a Shadow Rider?" Zane asks.

"Perhaps, so be on the lookout for anything strange," Sheppard warns.

While Chazz, Zane, and Bastion were up for this Crowler and Banner on the other hand were not as enthusiastic.

In his room, Chazz was going through his deck making sure he was ready.

"I'd like to see that vampire get the drop on the Chazz." He said.

Little did he know one of her bats was spying on him.

And not just him. As Bastion and Zane were looking over their decks neither of them noticed a bat spying on them.

"A Vampire? What's next the Boogeyman?" Crowler mocks sitting in his office without a care in the world. "Who on earth would believe such nonsense?"

Little did he know a bat was spying on him.

Finally, in Banner was in his room wearing a makeshift priest outfit and had candles and a large stick with sutras tied around it. And even had garlic hanging from the ceiling.

"Stay away! I know you're out there! I have a huge horror movie collection! I know all your weaknesses!" Banner declares.

As he continued chanting the bat that was supposed to spy on him sweatdropped and flew away seeing it wasn't gonna get any information out of this one.

Meanwhile, in the infirmary, Mindy sat near Takeru, Alexis near her brother, and Syrus near Jaden.

"How's Jaden?" Alexis asks.

"He hasn't said a thing since last night. How's your brother?" Syrus asks.

"Pretty much the same. But he'll get better I know it. He's a fighter." Alexis assured.

"Yeah, I know." Syrus nods.

"So Mindy how's Takeru looking?" Alexis asks as Mindy slowly parts his hair.

"Tired but he'll be okay." Mindy smiles pecking his cheek.

"Hey, have you heard from Jasmine?" Alexis asks.

"She's a little shaken up from what happened but she'll be fine," Mindy assures.

Little did they know Jasmine was leaning against the wall on the opposite end of the door.

After what had happened with Takeru she wanted to talk to him, but clearly, he wasn't ready for that just yet.

As she left one of the bats was watching the group in the hospital hearing the whole thing.

Meanwhile, in a large bathroom, we see the Vampire lady laying in a large bathtub when a bat flew in.

"My precious. What have you brought me today?" She asks as the bat landed on her fingers.

As the bat's eyes glowed bright, the vampire lady saw the same images of the keykeepers.

"So this is our opposition? Who shall be first?" Glancing upon them her eyes settled on a familiar Obelisk with a serious face. "You. You will be my first." She declares.

That night, as all the students were in their beds, the keykeepers minus met in Sheppard's office.

"Good news Chancellor. I searched all over campus there's no sign of the—" Before Chazz could finish his boast Chumley came running in.

"Vampire!" Chumley yells. "I saw her! She's at the lake!"

Hearing this they all gasped.

Following Chumley all the key keepers except Alexis, Takeru, and Jaden arrived at the dark lake when from the fog a red carpet rolled out straight towards them from the middle of the lake.

"I think she's expecting us," Bastion said.

"At least it's the red carpet treatment," Crowler said trying to look on the bright side.

"Blood red. Fitting for a vampire." Zane said.

"So what now?" Bastion asks as Crowler slowly backed up in fear.

"Now we face her," Zane said.

"Yeah but who?" Chazz asks.

Backing up Crowler ended up bumping into Banner causing him to jump forward startled.

"Oh wow, how brave of you," Chumley said amazed.

"We'll be right behind you," Bastion assures.

"Yes by a good 10 feet," Banner said.

"Hey, I have an idea. Why don't we draw straws to see who goes first? Oh but wait we don't have any straws. I'll just go get some. Don't follow me." Crowler said trying to back out of this.

"Sorry Crowler but like it or not you're up first." Chazz shook his head.

"Hey, where's Chumley?" banner asks noticing he was gone.

Running into the infirmary, Chumley swung open the door.

"Syrus! Crowler's gonna duel the vampire!" Chumley said waking up Jaden and Takeru.

"Well, that's good. He'll win right?" Syrus asks.

"Wrong Syrus. Crowler may talk a big game but he plays a lousy one." Alexis said.

Hearing this Jaden and Takeru couldn't help but worry.

Back by the lake, Crowler hadn't moved a step.

"So Crowler what's the hold up?" Chazz asks.

"Enough! If you're in such a hurry why don't you go first?!" Crowler snaps.

Suddenly a gust of wind blew in and the vampire lady came in on her boat and walked across the carpet.

"Gentlemen. Why don't I just come to you?" She suggests arriving to see Crowler in the front. "And who might you be?"

"I'm your challenger," Crowler states much to her disappointment.

'Hmm, I don't think so. I crave another.' She thought looking at Zane. "You are not worthy." She declares making Crowler stumble.

"I beg your pardon?! I have a PhD in Dueling! That takes 9 years of Duel School!" Crowler snaps.

"Fine if you're that eager to lose you may duel me. Camula, Vampire Mistress of the Shadow Riders." She declares as her eyes glowed and bats flew around them.

"She's the Vampire? I need to get new horror movies." Banner smiles.

"Rubber bats and plastic teeth don't scare me." Crowler rolls his eyes.

"Well, perhaps this will. If you lose I not only get your spirit key but I also get your soul. Or rather…" Reaching into her pocket, Camula pulls out a small voodoo doll. "This little doll does."

"You want to take his soul and his key?!" Bastion said in disbelief.

"Forget it!" Chazz scowled.

Crowler however wasn't scared. "That's it? Nothing for your mummy? Or perhaps something for your pet werewolf to chew on?" Crowler mocks.

"Be careful what you wish for key keeper. It just might come true." Camula hissed as they took their positions.

As Crowler activated his duel blazer, Camula had a custom duel disk shaped like a bat wing.

Crowler: 4000

Camula: 4000

"So Key Keeper, you don't believe in werewolves?" Camula drew. "Well try this on for size. Rise Zombie Werewolf!" Camula said summoning a lycanthrope with torn pants, red eyes and chains.

Zombie Werewolf: 1200/ 1200

"And I'll end my turn with one card facedown," Camula said ending her turn.

"Please, what do you take me for, an amateur? That facedown is obviously a trap and that fleabag is clearly the bait. But I'll bite." Crowler drew. "Because you've bitten off more than you can chew. I activate the spell Ancient Gear Castle! This raises the attack of all my Ancient Gear monsters by 300 points. Secondly, I'll play my Ancient Gear Solider in attack mode!" Appearing on his side of the field was a soldier that resembled his Ancient Gear Golem but smaller and had a gun for an arm.

Gear Soldier: 1300/ 1300

"And thanks to my castle he gets even stronger," Crowler said as his monster glowed.

Gear Soldier: 1600/ 1300

"Now Camula I think it's time to give that filthy slobbering mongrel his shots! Go Rapid Fire Flurry!" Crowler orders as his solider open fired destroying Camula's monster.

Crowler: 4000

Camula: 3600

"Guess Crowler's more of a cat person." Zane grins.

"That was fun. I should get out of the classroom more often." Crowler smiles feeling on top of the world.

"On the contrary. You should study up. Then you would know my werewolf is coming back!" Camula said as her werewolf returned to the field but even stronger.

Zombie Werewolf: 1700/ 1200

"But how?" Crowler gasps.

"Ah, the living. I forget the ignorance of a beating heart. When Zombie Werewolf is destroyed I can summon another from my deck with 500 more attack points." Camula explains.

"And he teaches us?" Chazz groans.

"Uh don't worry everything is under control. I place one card facedown and end my turn." Crowler said playing a facedown.

"Thank you." Camula drew. "And I play Vampire Bat in attack mode." Appearing on the field were bats similar to the ones she used to spy on them appeared.

Vampire Bat: 800/ 800

"And thanks to my winged friend all zombie-type monsters gain 200 attack points," Camula said as both her monsters powered up.

Zombie Werewolf: 1900

Vampire Bat: 1000

"Aren't you three precious? If you had bags you could go trick or treating." Crowler mocks.

"The only treat will be your demise. Zombie Werewolf sic that Ancient Gear Soldier! Midnight Pounce!" Camula orders as her Werewolf sank its teeth into Crowler's Monster destroying it.

Crowler: 3700

Camula: 3600

"Looks like your mutt has some bite after all. No matter I still have more life points." Crowler brushes off.

"Perhaps, but not for much longer. Vampire Bat attack with Swarming Scourge!" Camula said as her bats flew in and attacked Crowler directly biting and gnawing at his body.

Crowler: 2700

Camula: 3600

'I can actually feel their little teeth! This isn't a dueling hologram, this is real! But that means…this is a real Shadow Game!' Crowler thought dropping to his knees.

Meanwhile, in the infirmary, everyone was watching this match on Syrus' PDA.

"Oh man, that's not lishious." Chumley said.

"He's getting a beatdown," Syrus said.

"No, he can't. If he losses, he'll lose his key and his soul." Alexis panics.

In the back, Akiza slowly twitched meaning she was regaining consciousness.

Back at the duel, Crowler was struggling to get up while Camula laughed at him.

"For rubber bats, they pack quite the wallop, don't they? Listen dear, you don't have to endure this. Step down, and I'll duel that one in white." Camula said looking at Zane.

"Hear that Zane? Sounds like you're her type." Chazz smirks.

"Or her blood type." Banner corrects.

"So how about it? Give me your student and I'll let you go free." Camula offers.

"As tempting as that offer is, I don't think so! I won't let you lay a finger on my students!" Crowler said standing up. "Do you understand? I am the leading professor at the most famous academy in the world! And if you want to get to them, you'll have to go through yours truly!"

"But you can barely stand Crowler." Chazz points.

"Don't worry about me. I still have a deck in my hand, and a few tricks up my sleeve. Like this one. I activate my facedown card, Damage Condenser! This allows me to summon a monster with an attack less than or equal to the damage you just inflicted on me this turn. In other words, the more pain you deal the more hurt you'll feel. Rise Ancient Gear Soldier!" Crowler said summoning another soldier to the field.

Gear Solider: 1600/ 1300

"But he won't be around for long." Crowler drew. "I'll sacrifice my Soldier in order to summon my own 4-legged friend. Go Ancient Gear Beast!" Appearing on the field was a large metal hound made of gears and armor plating. And thanks to the Ancient Gear Castle it got a power boost.

Ancient Gear Beast: 2300/ 2000

"And as you're about to see he's well trained. Go Ancient Gear Beast! Show that Werewolf who's top dog!" Crowler orders.

"Don't do it! If you win she'll just bring it back!" Chazz calls out.

"Appreciate the advice Chazz, but you're forgetting about his special ability. Ancient Gear Beast negates the effect of any destroyed monster." Crowler smirks wagging his finger back and forth.

"What a clever calculation," Bastion said amazed.

"Yes, good thinking." Banner agrees.

"Now Ancient Gear Beast attack Zombie Werewolf!" Pouncing at her werewolf, Crowler's beast destroys it and prevents it from returning to the field.

Crowler: 2700

Camula: 3200

"Good move, pity you won't have more of those." Camula drew. "I activate the Field Spell, Infernalvania!"

Activating the spell, the area around them changed to mimic a dark spooky Transylvania castle with a long curvy path leading toward it.

"But you'll destroy everything with that." Crowler gasps.

"Exactly, by sending one Zombie monster from my hand to the graveyard I can send every monster that's on the field straight to the graveyard," Camula explains.

"True but remember by using Infernalvania you're not allowed to normal summon your monsters anymore." Chazz points out.

"So what? Who says I need any more monsters? Isn't that right?" Camula smirks looking at Crowler.

"Don't look at me like that. I know very well what that bat of yours can do." Crowler scoffs.

"But do your students?" Camula counters. "Do they know that Vampire Bat can be made indestructible by sending another one from my deck to the graveyard or did you skip that chapter?"

Gasping everyone on the sidelines realized what was about to happen.

"But first I'll send one of my Zombie monsters to the grave for Infernalvania!" By sending a card to the grave Infernalvania began to glow destroying all monsters on the field. "And like I said I'll discard another Vampire Bat to keep this one on my field."

Reappearing back on the field Vampire Bat had a clear shot at Crowler.

"Now attack the good professor!" She hisses and once again Crowler was attacked by the horde of bats.

"Not again! I can't take much more of this!" Crowler said in pain.

"He needs our help!" Zane said as they were about to move in.

"No stay back!" Crowler orders. "This is my duel and my duel alone. You must…protect…your keys."

Feeling weakened from the attack Crowler collapsed to the ground.

Crowler: 1700

Camula: 3200

Gasping everyone was in shock and horror.

"Crowler, we can't just sit back and do nothing!" Zane said.

"Yes, I agree darling. Come save your teacher because he can't save himself." Camula smiles.

"Wrong!" A familiar voice calls out.

Turning around everyone saw Jaden and Takeru had arrived. Jaden rode on Chumley's back and Takeru being supported by Syrus and Alexis as they each had an arm around their shoulders.

"Jaden?" Bastion and Zane said surprised.

"Takeru?" Chazz and Banner said equally surprised.

"Doctor Crowler can win this duel!" Jaden calls out.

"Wait I know that voice," Crowler said opening his eyes. "It's slacker."

"Come on Crowler! You're always bragging about how amazing you are! Show us what you got!" Takeru calls out.

"Yeah, he can throw down! I know because I've seen it and he can beat you! So get up Crowler and get your game on!" Jaden encouraged.

Hearing Jaden's encouragement Crowler managed to muster the strength to stand up.

"I'm not giving up," Crowler growls facing her.

"You're still here?" Camula mocks.

"You bet I am missy and though I hate to admit…JADEN IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I CAN BEAT YOU, I CAN THROWDOWN, AND I CAN GET MY GAME ON!" Crowler declares and immediately gags. "Ugh, why do I feel the need to wash my mouth out all of a sudden?"

"Come on it's not that bad teach." Jaden smirks.

"Yes but you know what is? His life points." Bastion points out.

"Crowler's gonna need to mount quite the comeback," Zane said.

"So what? Jaden and I had to make huge comebacks in our duels. If we can do it so can he." Takeru said.

"Now let's duel." Crowler drew. "I summon the Ancient Gear Golem!" Crowler said summoning his favorite monster.

Ancient Gear Golem: 3000/ 3000

"Check it, it's Crowler's best monster." Chazz smiles.

"But where's the sacrifice?" Syrus asks.

"It's on the field. The Ancient Gear Castle. When its on the field and you summon a monster with Ancient Gear in its name you can sacrifice the castle and it counts as how many sacrifices as cards you've played this duel." Zane explains.

"He may not get the power boost anymore but I don't think Crowler cares." Taker smiles as the castle disappeared.

"Now Ancient Gear Golem attack Vampire Bat with Mechanized Melee!" Crowler orders as Gear Golem punches Vampire Bat destroying it and taking a big chunk of Camula's lifepoints.

Crowler: 1700

Camula: 1200

"Did you forget that Vampire Bat can't be destroyed? But as Infernalvania will demonstrate, your golem can." Camula reminds as she returns her bat to the field.

"I'm afraid you're mistaken," Crowler smirks confusing everyone even Camula.

"What's he gonna do?" Chazz asks.

"Oh nothing. Just destroy every spell and trap card on the field. Suffer the wraith of Heavy Storm!" Crowler said activating his spell and a giant storm blew in destroying Infernalvania and Camula's facedown card.

However, Camula just smiled at this. "You must be such a bore to your students. So predictable."

"Please, you don't know what you're talking about." Crowler brushes off.

"Oh don't I?" Camula asks as her jaw stretched down further than any other jaw possibly could allowing everyone to see her two sharp fangs on her top and bottom teeth and a large thick tongue. "I play Zombie Bed!"

Appearing on the field was the same trap she played at the beginning of the duel.

"You can't! I just destroyed that card!" Crowler gasps.

"Which is exactly what I wanted you to do." Camula declares.

"But why?!"

"Of course." Zane realized. "In order to be activated Zombie Bed must be destroyed."

"Correct darling, now thanks to effect. I can bring back Zombie Werewolf from the grave in attack mode! Not only that but he gains 200 points thanks to Vampire Bat!" Camula said as her werewolf returned to the field.

Zombie Werewolf: 1400/ 1200

"Thanks to your card you're completely defenseless." Camula declares.

"It's like she knows every move Crowler will make before he makes it." Chazz gasps.

"It's easy when you have 100 bats spying on everyone," Camula smirks as her jaw returns to normal. Gasping Takeru saw a bat land on her shoulder and for a brief moment saw its eyes glowed.

"You cheat!" Takeru accuses but Camula just laughs it off.

"All is fair in love and war. And this is war." Camula said drawing her card. "I activate Book of Life this resurrects Vampire Lord from the grave. However, you can't give life without taking it. So I'll be removing your Ancient Gear Beast from the grave so you can't use it anymore." Camula said as a blue-skinned vampire appeared on the field and got a boost from Vampire Bat.

Vampire Lord: 2200/ 1500

"Now I'll remove my Vampire Lord from the game in order to summon Vampire Genesis to the field!" As her gentleman vampire disappeared a large purple beast with bat-like wings and glowing red eyes appeared in its place.

Vampire Genesis: 3000/ 2100

"And since Vampire Bat is still on the field his attack points go up by 200 as well," Camula said as her monster became stronger than Crowler's golem.

Vampire Genesis: 3200

Seeing this Crowler, knew what was about to happen. She had 3 monsters more than enough to win her the duel. Knowing this duel was over, he turned to the others.

"My students. No matter what happens to me remember this…it's true I may have been hard on at times but it's simply because I believe. Therefore, if I fall I know there's still hope. I know that you will all rise." Crowler said his voice breaking in the end.

"Don't talk like that!" Zane snaps.

"This isn't good." Jaden frowned.

"Have you finished your final lesson yet, Crowler?" Camula asks impatiently.

"That's Doctor Crowler to you!" Crowler said turning to face her but she just laughed.

"Very well. I will put that on your tombstone. Go Vampire Genesis attack his Gear Golem!" Camula said as her vampire destroyed his monster.

Crowler: 1500

Camula: 1200

"Is that all? I thought you Shadow Riders were supposed to be tough?" Crowler cringed.

"You want more? Very well, Zombie Werewolf attack him directly!" Camula said as her werewolf slashed Crowler's with his claws making him scream in pain.

Crowler: 100

Camula: 1200

"Had enough? Here try this as well. Vampire Bat end this duel!" Camula said as the third and final swarm of vampire bats flew in attacking Crowler.

"Crowler!" Takeru yells.

Glancing at Jaden and Takeru, Crowler smiles softly.

"Jaden, Takeru…avenge me boys." Crowler said before falling to the ground defeated.

Crowler: 0000

Camula: 1200

"His key is mine." Camula declares.

"No way," Chazz growls wanting to stop her.

"We can't. She won the duel." Jaden said.

As Camula approached Crowler, she took his key and it disappeared. "One down, seven to go. Now children to take my second prize." Reaching into her pocket she takes out the voodoo doll.

Watching in horror everyone watched as the doll began to glow along with Crowler's body causing the doll to change to resemble Crowler.

"She put Crowler's soul in the doll!" Syrus gasps.

"Dolls are pretty this one is not. It's garbage now!" She said throwing the doll to the ground.

"That's it!" Jaden snaps at the disrespect but a hand got in the way.

Looking over Jaden saw Zane stopping him. "Zane?"

"Sorry guys but she's mine next." Zane declares.

Hearing this Camula grinned as the fog around the lake began to depart revealing a large castle. "I'm afraid I must say farewell to you all for now."

"We'll find you!" Bastion declares.

"And duel you!" Chazz declares.

"Children, that's exactly what I'm hoping for." Camula cackles before disappearing with her cold laughter echoing through the night.

The next day, dark clouds hovered over Duel Academy as we find ourselves back in the Infirmary as everyone sat next to Jaden and Takeru's bed.

"First I'll play a Trap and then I play a spell and then I'll attack!" Jaden said before wincing. "After I get some rest. Camula's gonna pay for this. Taking Crowler's key is one thing but to take his soul and put it in a doll? Sure he was a pain but not even he deserves this."

"And to add insult to injury she ditched it right after getting it." Takeru said looking at said doll in Chazz's hands.

"Guys you really need to rest." Syrus insists.

"Sy's right. If we're not at our best our souls will be sealed in those dolls and our bodies will be…catatonic." Banner said scaring Pharaoh out of his hands and under the bed. "No Pharaoh! Just because the word has "cat" in it doesn't mean it applies to you!" Crawling under the bed Crowler tried to get him out.

"The worst part is since Camula was able to take Crowler's key she only needs 7 more to unleash those beast cards," Bastion said.

"And then it won't just be our souls at stake but everyone in the world," Alexis said.

"That's it! I'm dueling Camula tonight!" Jaden declares.

"Yeah right." Grabbing the sheet, Chazz yanks it over Jaden's head. "You can't even win against a sheet. This duel is for the Chazz."

"Hold on." Struggling Jaden got free. "There I win."

"It's 2 out of 3," Chazz said yanking it back over him.

"What about you?" Bastion asks looking at Takeru.

Slowly sitting up, Takeru's arms were still in bandages. "I'm able to move around more but it still hurts a little," Takeru admits.

"Since Jaden isn't up to snuff and Takeru's injuries haven't fully healed, one of us will have to face Camula." Chazz said.

"And by us you mean you? Sorry Chazz but I'm not convinced you're the man for the job. I should go." Bastion said.

"What we need is to work together. Saving the Spirit Keys and Crowler's soul is all that matters." Alexis said.

Hearing this everyone was in silent agreement.

"Alright. Guess we're taking it easy again today." Jaden sighs.

"Don't think for a second that's all it will take to beat Camula." A new voice calls out.

Turning to the opposite side they saw the former Shadow Rider Akiza slowly sit up.

"Aaah! The Witch is awake! Don't hurt me!" Chumley panics causing her to glare at him making him hide behind Syrus.

"Chumley, she doesn't like being called that," Takeru said before looking at her. "Are you okay?"

"Why am I here? Are you going to interrogate me? Lock me away?" Akiza asks.

"Don't get any ideas. The only reason we brought you here is because Magic Boy wanted us to." Chazz points confusing her.

"You told them to save me? Did you hit your head too many times in our duel? I nearly destroyed you." Akiza mocks.

"You needed help so I told them to." Takeru shrugs off making her pause.

She tried to destroy him, but he helped her. This was something she had never experienced before.

"Now what was that you said about Camula. Why can't we win?" Alexis asks.

"Because Camula plays by her own rules. Before and during the duels. You can't expect to beat her like you did with me and Nightshroud. She will do everything in her power to make sure she wins." Akiza warns.

Thinking he heard enough, Zane turned around to leave.

"Zane wait," Syrus said following him. "Big bro, where are you going? I thought we all agreed to work together."

"If all that matters is protecting those keys and saving Crowler then you know where I'll be," Zane said walking down the hall.

Little did they know one of Camula's bats was watching them.

"The one I crave is coming and I'll be ready." Camula grins.

Meanwhile, in Chazz's room in the Slifer dorm, Chazz was on his bed looking at his cards when a familiar card spirit floated out.

"Hey, boss long time! How are things?" Ojama Yellow asks.

"They were fine until you showed up," Chazz said smacking him away.

"Aw shucks, thanks, boss. You sure know how to make me feel special. So what are you doing? Rearranging your deck?" Ojama Yellow asks floating back over. "Can I help?"

However, Chazz just smacked him away again but this time he hit Crowler's doll.

"Ow! Hey fragile here!"

"Huh?" Pausing Ojama Yellow looked at the doll. "Hey boss the doll is alive!"

"What?" Chazz asks confused.

"I swear I'm telling the truth!" Ojama Yellow assures as Chazz grabs the doll.

"Would you mind letting up on the grip? You're wrinkling my coat!"

"Yep, that's Dr. Crowler." Chazz nods when they heard a noise.

Opening the curtains they saw tons of bats flying in the sky.

"It's starting again!" Chazz said as he ran out.

"She's back," Banner said looking out the window.

Seeing this, Bastion ran out of the Ra Yellow dorm with his duel disk and key at the ready.

At the infirmary, Jaden was being helped onto Chumley's back while Alexis helped Takeru.

"Try not to push yourself. You're just getting your strength back." Alexis said.

"I'll try," Takeru said.

"Come on. I got a feeling that vampire is about to bite again." Alexis said as they were about to leave.

"You're not going to win," Akiza said getting their attention. "Camula will find a way to beat whoever you throw at her next."

"She's going up against Zane. He's the best in the school. He can beat her." Syrus assures.

"If it was a fair duel maybe. But Camula doesn't play fair." Akiza said.

"Well, that's why Zane needs us more than ever. So we can be there for him. Unless you want to help?" Jaden asks.

"Why would I help you?" Akiza asks.

"She is our enemy Jaden," Chumley said.

"Not anymore she is," Takeru said looking at her. "Look you don't have to join our side, but now that you're not a Shadow Rider you're in just as much danger as we are now if your old teammates win. If they win you lose too."

As they left, Akiza was left with her thoughts. Glancing over at Atticus she saw he was still asleep until he rolled his head in her direction.

"You don't get to judge me." Akiza glares.

At the lakeside, everyone was following Zane as he entered the castle.

"Aw man now we gotta do stairs? Can I just drag Jaden instead of carrying him on my back?" Chumley whines.

"Quiet. We're close." Zane said.

Entering a large old ballroom they looked to see that it had seen better days.

"Ah right on time." On an upper balcony, they saw Camula looking down at them. "Looking for me?"

"You bet we are!" Jaden growls.

"We want Dr. Crowler back!" Takeru orders.

"That's right. So hand him over!" Chazz said.

"Or else." Bastion glares but Camula just giggles.

"I have no interest in little schoolboys." Camula dismisses.

"She must mean you," Bastion said looking at Chazz.

"No, she means you." Chazz glares.

As Camula glanced at the others her eyes settled on Zane. "Are you ready?"

"Let's Duel," Zane said accepting her challenge.

"Good luck bro," Syrus said.

As Zane faced Camula on the opposite balcony everyone watched from the sidelines.

"Let's review the rules. If you win you get Crowler's soul back and I'll be on my way, but if I win I get your soul, your spirit key, and I get to continue my quest to unleash the 3 Sacred Beasts." Camula recites as both activated their duel disks.

"Duel!" Both said.

Zane: 4000

Camula: 4000

"I like to lead." Camula drew. "I summon Vampire Lady in defense mode!" Appearing on the field was a female vampire in a purple dress. "And I lay one card facedown. That's all for me."

Vampire Lady: 1550/ 1550

"Really? Shame." Zane drew. "It won't be enough to protect you against this!" Zane said revealing Power Bond surprising everyone.

"Playing Power Bond?" Camula raised an eyebrow.

"It allows me to fuse machine-type monsters and I have the perfect ones in mind. My 3 Cyber Dragons!" Zane said as the three mechanical dragons appeared. "Now unite and form the almighty Cyber End Dragon!"

Fusing together the same powerful dragon that beat Jaden appeared.

Cyber End Dragon: 4000/ 2800

"Zane summoned his most powerful monster on his very first turn!" Alexis gasps.

'That's not like my brother. He usually feels out his opponent before Power Bond. It's like he's using it, instead of playing it. I hope he knows what he's doing.' Syrus thought worried.

"My, I like your aggressive style but Power Bond has its risks. Are you prepared to handle the consequences?" Camula points out.

"She's right. At the end of the turn, Zane takes damage equal to Cyber End Dragon's original attack points. Which is 4000 big ones, but that may be a risk he's willing to take because Power Bond doubles its attack points." Chumley said as Cyber End's attack points were raised.

Cyber End Dragon: 8000/ 2800

"8000?!" Camula gasps.

"I don't think I'll need to worry much about the risks after this turn. Now Cyber End Dragon attack Vampire Lady with Super Strident Blaze!" Zane orders as his dragon went on the attack.

As each head fired a powerful blast of energy it flew across the field toward Camula.

"Forget about my facedown? I play the trap Red Ghost Moon! With this trap by discarding one Zombie-type monster, not only do I stop your monster's attack but all your monster's attack points are added to my life points." Camula explains.

As the trap took the attack, Cyber End's attack stops in its tracks.

"That's 8000 life points plus the 4000 I already have equals 12000 life points!" Camula laughs.

"Wrong! I activate the spell De-Fusion! By disassembling my Cyber End Dragon this leaves you…" Zane starts.

"With absolutely nothing. With Red Moon's target gone so is its effect." Bastion smirks as Cyber End Dragon became 3 Cyber Dragons.

Cyber Dragon x 3: 2100/1600

"My points!" Camula gasps seeing that she got nothing.

"Hey, you know what else? Since Cyber End is gone Zane doesn't suffer the effects of Power Bond either." Syrus smiles.

"It's not Cyber End Dragon but Zane can do a lot of damage with 3 new monsters." Takeru smiles.

"Now that's playing a card." Jaden cheers.

"I'll end my turn with one card facedown," Zane said as a card appeared on his side.

"Oh, my darling. I see why you're ranked number 1 at Duel Academy. So how that's how you earned the title Kaiser." Camula smirks.

"You haven't seen anything yet," Zane assures.

"Well, I hope not, Zane dear we've only just begun this duel and I hope to have a lot more fun with you." Camula assures.

"I don't think I'm gonna like her fun." Syrus gulps.

"None of us are Syrus," Alexis said holding Takeru's hand.

"Now then. Shall we?" Camula drew. "I sacrifice Vampire Lady to summon Vampire Lord!" As the female vampire disappeared we see a Vampire gentleman in violet appears.

Vampire Lord: 2000/ 1500

"Now I'll sacrifice him to summon Vampire Genesis!" As a bright light engulfs her vampire it turned into the same monster that took down Dr. Crowler.

Vampire Genesis: 3000/ 2100

"Darling Zane, I promised you fun and now we're going to have it. Aren't you excited?" Camula asks but Zane kept a calm collected look on his face frustrating her. "You're such a bore. Well, maybe this will rouse you! Vampire Genesis attack!" Camula orders.

"As fun as this is I'm afraid I'm going to have to interrupt it with my facedown card. The trap, Attack Reflector Unit!" Zane said revealing his facedown and one of his Cyber Dragons began to glow.

"A trap?!" Camula gasps.

"One that's evolutionary. You see this trap evolves my Cyber Dragon into the Cyber Barrier Dragon!" When the light dies down the newly transformed dragon had a large cuff-like apparatus and clearer plating almost like a mirror.

Cyber Barrier Dragon: 800/ 2800

"And while Cyber Barrier Dragon is in attack mode, once per turn I can negate the attack of one of your monsters so your Vampire Genesis' attack goes right back to where it started," Zane said as his dragon created a green barrier reflecting Vampire Genesis and knocking it back to Camula's side of the field.

"How dare you." Camula glares.

"Man Syrus your brother's amazing." Takeru smiles.

"Yeah no wonder he beat us, but we were pretty close." Jaden smiles.

"Yeah." Syrus nods in agreement.

"My turn." Zane drew. "First I play Pot of Greed. This lets me draw 2 cards from my deck and next, I'll play the spell Photon Generator Unit! By sacrificing my two Cyber Dragons I can summon the Cyber Laser Dragon!" Zane said as his dragons disappeared and a new blue dragon with a laser gun-like tail appeared.

Cyber Laser Dragon: 2400/ 1800

"With Cyber Laser Dragon, once every turn I can destroy one monster with equal or more attack or defense points than my dragon's attack points," Zane explains.

"I bet you talk to all the girls like that." Camula glares.

"No just the ones I really don't like. Now Laser Dragon destroy her Vampire Genesis with Blue Lightning Lash!" Zane orders as Laser Dragon fires a beam destroying Vampire Genesis. "Now attack her directly! Blue Lightning Blast!" Firing a blue beam from its mouth Cyber Laser Dragon blasts Camula.

Zane: 4000

Camula: 1600

"And don't think I forgot about Cyber Barrier Dragon. Attack with Sonic Shriek!" Zane said as Cyber Barrier Dragon attacks Camula knocking her against the wall.

Zane: 4000

Camula: 800

"Awesome! That's exactly what I would have done!" Chumley said amazed.

"Sure Chum. In your dreams." Jaden jokes.

"Now you can see why my brother has never lost, huh guys?" Syrus smiles proudly. "Still mom says I got the looks."

"Uh sure Sy." Takeru said everyone else was unsure how to respond to that.

"I'll end my turn with a facedown," Zane said.

"Darling you realize you're forcing me to reveal my ugly side," Camula said as her jaw opened widely and she drew. "It's only going to get uglier. I play the spell Illusion Gate!" Appearing behind Camula was a large stone door and archway.

"I've never heard of that card. Do you guys know it?" Jaden asks but everyone shook their heads.

As Takeru looked at the door, Mahad's spirit appeared next to him.

"I sense a dark magic surrounding that card," Mahad informs.

'Dark Magic?' Takeru pauses not liking this.

"Behold!" Camula said as the door opened and her choker glowed red. "First this card destroys every monster on your field!"

Covering his eyes, Zane shielded himself as both his dragons were blown to smithereens.

"But that's not all." From the spell, a second Camula appeared next to the original. "This card also allows me to summon any monster that you have used during the duel."

"What?" Zane said not liking this.

"So even though you did defuse Cyber End Dragon after one turn you did use him during the duel." Camula points out.

"Oh please. No card is that powerful to let you make a move like that. There must be a cost." Zane assumes.

"Yes. You see after playing Illusion Gate, should I lose. I must offer a soul to the Sacred Beasts as tribute." Camula declares.

"Is that all?" Bastion asks.

"Good, she deserves it after what she did to Crowler." Chazz said.

"Beg your pardon? I said a soul, not my soul. You see in the Shadows it's all the same." Looking down her eyes locked onto Syrus. "Syrus. The beasts will find your soul to be a tasty treat."

Gasping Zane looks down. "SYRUS RUN!" Zane screams.

"Oh no you don't!" Before Syrus could get away the other Camula swooped in and grabbed him.

"Syrus!" Takeru gasps trying to grab him but he was too late.

"Sy." Zane gasps.

Bringing him to the gate, Syrus was weakened by its magic. "Sorry, Zane."

"Now I summon the almighty Cyber End Dragon!" Camula roars as from the gate Zane's best monster was on her side of the field.

Cyber End Dragon: 4000/ 2800

Eyes widening in horror, Takeru remembered what Akiza said.

"If it was a fair duel you would win but Camula never plays fair. She'll do whatever it takes to win." Akiza's words rang in his head.

Grinding his teeth, Takeru tightened his fist. She was abusing dark powers and using his friends to suffer the consequences.

"Whatever will you do, darling? I have your most powerful monster and your little brother. Although actually, they might be one in the same. After all, even if you somehow win back Cyber End Dragon and beat me you'll be losing Syrus as well. Whatever will you do?" Camula taunts.

'The facedown card I played is Call of the Haunted. If I use it to bring back my Cyber Barrier Dragon and stop Cyber End Dragon. Camula would be defeated. We'd be that much closer to saving the world from the Sacred Beasts and in exchange we would only lose one soul…my brother's. The choice is clear.' Zane thought.

"So what will you do? Save the world or save your brother's soul? Even if it means losing yours." Camula asks.

Slowly Syrus lifts his head up and looks at his brother. "Zane…go ahead. Do it and win the duel." Syrus said weakly.

"What?" Zane looked at his brother at a loss for words.

"Syrus no!" Jaden gasps while Takeru just watched this speechless.

"My soul is a small price to pay to beat Camula. After all, if she wins, she gets your Spirit Key and we all know what that means. The Shadow Riders will be that much closer to releasing the Sacred Beasts. Besides Zane, if one of us has to go, it might as well be me. I may have gotten the looks but you got everything else. The skills, the smarts, everything. Anyway, big bro, it's alright. At least this way I can be remembered for being something besides being little brother. I can be the one who gets to be the hero for once. The one who saves the day." Syrus said leaving everyone speechless.

As a tear ran down Syrus' eye. "After all we both know I never would have been able to do it by dueling. It's like you said…I never belonged here." Syrus said hanging his head in shame.

"You're right I did say that…and I've never been more wrong about anything in my life. Syrus, you proved me wrong. You do belong here." Zane declares getting his attention.

"Huh?" Syrus said lifting his head.

"I love you, Syrus. Never forget that. I wasn't there for you when we were growing up but I am now. I'll miss you." Zane said lowering his duel disk. "I stand down."

"Zane what are you doing?!" Syrus gasps.

"So be it. Cyber End Dragon destroy him!" Camula orders as Cyber End Dragon blasts Zane.

"No! Take me instead!" Syrus yells, but it was too late.

Zane: 0000

Camula: 800

As Zane's spirit key disappeared, Camula's Illusion Gate as well as her body double disappeared freeing Syrus.

Dropping to his knees, Zane's soul was transferred into Camula's doll just like she did with Crowler.

"Darling, you're mine at last. A bit smaller and less talkative, but a darling trophy nonetheless." Camula smirks keeping this doll.

Cackling Camula disappeared into thin air leaving them until tomorrow night.

Leaving, the castle, everyone was at the riverbanks looking out at the castle.

"And just like that…he's gone." Syrus sobs at the loss of his brother.

As everyone looked at Syrus saddened by the loss of Zane too.

Tightening his fist, Takeru and Mahad looked at the castle and saw a look of anger and determination.

'You're gonna pay for this Camula.' Takeru declared.
