Chapter 31: Field of Screams Part 2
Hey everyone, I'm back with a new chapter. Bet you didn't expect this to be done so fast, but I had this duel figured out for a while and I think you'll all like what I have planned. I hope you like what I have planned. Also to the Guest Review who keeps asking me to spare Camula, I'm sorry but I can't do that. Hate to break it to you but that can't happen. We find ourselves in Sheppard's office as Sheppard was looking out the window and the stormy sky.
"Two of the Eight Keys have been unlocked. This is not good." Sheppard said when his computer turned on revealing a video call with a mysterious figure who had several cables in the background behind him.
"You disappoint me, Sheppard. Your excellent duelists only excel at losing. Why not just give up and surrender the remaining 6 keys?" The figure mocks.
"It's not over yet. If I know my students they'll never give up no matter the odds. After all, they came to this school to become champions." Sheppard states.
"And they'll end up victims. My vampire is ready to feed again." The figure cackles before hanging up.
In the infirmary, Alexis sat next to her brother hoping that he would wake up soon, but so far nothing.
From the other side of the room, Jaden was tossing and turning in his sleep groaning in pain with each movement. Takeru wasn't much better. As he slowly unwrapped the bandages on his arms, he cringed softly still in pain.
Once they were off, Takeru reached for his deck and put it into his duel disk.
"You're really going to take on Camula in that condition?" Akiza asks sitting in the bed across from him.
"She crossed the line with Zane. She needs to be stopped." Takeru said.
"Can you even duel in the condition?" Akiza asks.
"We'll find out soon," Takeru said.
"Okay not that I care one way or another but why are you putting yourself through this? This School can't be worth all this." Akiza said.
"It is to me," Takeru said making her roll her eyes. "Look I know your story. How you were treated badly because of your powers and that's why you ran off and ended up becoming a Shadow Rider. Maybe if you had someone on your side you might not be so bad this time around." Takeru said.
Hearing this Akiza slowly put her hand on her half of the bangle.
Suddenly their train of thought was interrupted by Atticus' amulet half glowing along with Akiza and Takeru's bangle halves.
"Atticus?" Alexis gasps seeing her brother's hands begin to move.
As he slowly opens his eyes, he reached for his amulet, and in the corner of his hand, was a card.
Meanwhile, at the lake, we see Chazz and Bastion waiting by the red carpet as Syrus and Chumley were pushing Prof. Banner.
"Come on Prof. Banner you have to duel that Vampire. You're a Shadow Games Expert." Syrus said.
"Yeah and you're the only one out here who's wearing garlic aftershave," Chumley said.
"I can't duel! Who will take care of my cat?! Pharoah has a very specific diet!" Banner said holding his cat tightly.
"Don't worry about it, Banner. This is clearly a job for Chazz Princeton." Chazz said.
"If you mean feeding the cat, you're right." Bastion mumbles.
"The Calvary is here!" Looking down the lake they saw Alexis pull up in a motorboat. "We don't need Banner, we've got Jaden and Takeru."
Looking at the boat, they saw Jaden and Takeru sitting in the boat with Akiza across from them.
"Wassup." Jaden smiles.
"Miss us?" Takeru smiles.
"For the last time, you guys can't duel," Syrus said.
"Yeah not in your condition," Chazz said.
"And what is she doing here?" Bastion asks looking at Akiza.
"Listen back at the hospital…" Jaden starts.
Flashback:
We see Atticus awake with Alexis and Takeru around him.
"You're finally awake!" Alexis gasps taking the oxygen mask off him.
"Alexis, I need to tell you about her, the vampire known as Camula. You can't beat her like the others." Atticus warns.
"Akiza said the same thing. Why?" Alexis asks.
"She uses a Shadow Charm that gives her the power to steal souls. I'm sure you've seen her use it already." Atticus said.
"You'd be right. Not to mention she has her bat army spying on all of us and our decks." Takeru said.
"But you can stop her, with another shadow charm. And with this." Atticus said placing a card atop his amulet.
Bending down to pick it up Takeru gasps seeing what the card was.
"Another shadow charm…wait that means we have two actually," Alexis said looking at Akiza.
"Atticus is one thing but what makes you think I'm gonna give mine to you?" Akiza asks.
Frowning Takeru let out a sigh. "Look Akiza, you gotta be willing to give us a chance. I can't promise you that if help us things will be perfect or that even people will accept you, but if you don't want to keep being called a witch then do something to change their opinions and that starts by helping us." Takeru said.
Looking at them, Akiza saw the pleading look on all their faces, even Atticus'.
"Trust me, they're good people," Atticus assures.
"If I help you…you promise you'll help me?" Akiza asks.
"You have my word." Takeru nods.
Flashback End:
"If we can stop her from stealing souls then we can duel her with all our might instead of standing there scared," Alexis said.
"I'm not scared of her." Chazz denies.
"Speak for yourself!" Crowler said from Chazz's pocket.
"So we fight fire with fire. We got our own Shadow Charms." Alexis said.
"Yeah compliments of Atticus and Akiza," Jaden said showing the two medallion halves around his neck while Takeru raised his right hand to show the two bangle halves on his arm.
"So then which one of you is going to duel Camula?" Chazz asks.
"I—" Jaden was about to step up when Takeru grabbed his shoulder.
"Hold on Jaden. Let me. I want to take this one." Takeru said determined.
Seeing the determined look on his face, Jaden nodded in understanding before they made their way in.
"So uh does this mean you're on our side now?" Syrus asks.
"Because if you are I take back that witch insult I made yesterday," Chumley said.
"Don't get ahead of yourselves. Of all the Shadow Riders, I hate her the most." Akiza said.
Entering the castle, Takeru stepped into the ballroom.
"Come on out Camula! I'm here for my friend's souls and we're not leaving without them!" Takeru declares.
"Actually dear, truth be told none of you are leaving," Camula said before noticing Akiza in the group. "Well, what do we have here? The little witch joined with the enemy? I knew there was a reason I didn't like you from the second I saw you."
"Camula." Akiza glares.
"I thought Akiza was the one who hated her?" Syrus asks.
"Well apparently Camula hates her right back," Jaden said.
"Don't listen to her, you're not like her," Alexis assures.
"Isn't she? She and I were practically the same." Camula said before turning to Akiza. "You wanted to inflict pain on the others and make them feel what you felt."
"I wanted revenge, but I didn't cheap tricks and cheating to deal with my enemies. I used my own skills and power." Akiza said.
"And look where that got you? You lost and your enemies took pity on you." Camula mocks making Akiza growl when Takeru put a hand on her shoulder.
"Don't let her get to you. She's not worth it." Takeru said.
Narrowing her eyes, Akiza stood down.
"Oho looks like someone become a softie after all you so little girl who was the one who cut your thorns? Perhaps it was the boy in blue?" Camula smirks making Akiza glance at Takeru briefly before turning her attention back to her.
"Uh what is she talking about?" Jaden asks.
"Nothing that concerns you!" Akiza said.
"So which one of you is going to duel me?" Camula asks.
"Right here," Takeru said making his way to the opposite balcony.
"Very well. Watch closely Black Rose as I destroy the Key Keeper you failed to defeat." Camula mocks as they activated their duel disks.
"Let's duel!" Both said.
Takeru: 4000
Camula: 4000
"It's payback time Camula. You messed with my friends and now you're gonna pay." Takeru glares.
"Well let me tell you something, I don't care." Camula mocks.
"Well, maybe you should care about this." Takeru drew. "By sending one card from my hand to the graveyard I can special summon The Tricky to the field in attack mode!" Appearing on his field was his jester monster.
Tricky: 2000/1200
"Since that card was special summoned Takeru can still keep playing monsters. He must want to play something big." Jaden said.
"Let's just hope it's enough for Camula. After the last 2 duels, we know she'll do whatever it takes to get one over on him." Bastion said.
"Next I play Monster Reborn this allows me to summon any monster in any graveyard.!" Takeru said going for the only card in either graveyard. "Rise Chaos Command Magician!" Appearing on his side of the field the blue-skinned magician took a stance.
Chaos Command Magician: 2400/ 1900
"Plus since I haven't yet normal summoned this turn I play Mystical Elf in defense mode!" Takeru said as his female elf stood in between his spellcasters.
Mystical Elf: 800/ 2000
"And finally, I end my turn with one card facedown." Takeru said.
"Amazing. Takeru summoned 3 monsters on his first turn." Syrus said.
"He's set up a perfect lineup for attack and defense. He wants to end this quickly." Bastion said.
"And with a lineup like that, he just might," Jaden said impressed.
"I wouldn't count Camula out just yet," Chazz said.
"Trust me. She's not. She has a deck full of dangerous cards." Akiza said.
"Like that Illusion Gate." Banner recalls.
"Let's just hope she doesn't get a chance to play it." Alexis said.
"My turn." Camula drew. "I play Illusion Gate!"
"Oh man that was fast." Jaden cringed.
Eyes widening everyone saw the same card she used to bring down Zane being activated.
"I'm sure you remember what it does. It destroys every monster on the field and I get to pick one you've played and summon it to my field. And all I need to pay is a soul to the Sacred Beasts. Now who shall it be?" Camula asks as her Shadow Charm glowed.
As the gate opened dark smoke filled the room causing all the spectators to cover their mouths.
"Dear me the decision is just too hard. How about all of them?!" Camula declares.
"What?!" Takeru gasps.
"Never underestimate the shadows, with this necklace I can do anything!" Camula states.
"Not if we have anything to say about it! Now Takeru!" Jaden calls out.
As the two halves of Jaden's amulet glowed they merged together creating a bright light that extinguished all the shadows. Takeru on the other hand held up his right arm and the two bangle halves merged together to create a magical blast that blasted the gate shut.
"What's happening?!" Chazz gasps.
"Their Shadow Charms are canceling out Camula's." Alexis smiles.
"Thanks, Akiza. We owe you and Atticus big time for this one." Takeru smiles.
"Traitor!" Camula spat.
"Oh go choke on a clove of garlic." Akiza smirks. "Let's see you win without your cheap tricks."
"Sorry Camula but if you want to use that gate you won't be using any of us to pay the cost," Takeru said.
"Very well, Illusion Gate open up your gates and receive my soul as payment!" Camula declares as the gate released the shadows once again. "Now unleash your power upon the field!"
Using its power all of Takeru's monsters were destroyed.
"My monsters!" Takeru gasps.
"Don't worry, one of them won't be gone for long but he'll fighting for me. Come forth Chaos Command Magician!" Camula smirks as Chaos Command appeared on her side of the field but thanks to Illusion Gate, he had a dark, scary look in his eyes. "And now I play Zombie Werewolf in attack mode!" Appearing next to his magician was a familiar lycanthrope.
Zombie Werewolf: 1200/ 1200
"Now Chaos Command Magician attack your former owner directly!" Swinging his staff, Chaos Command blasts Takeru with a powerful energy strike causing him to scream in pain.
Takeru: 1600
Camula: 4000
"I'm not done yet. Zombie Werewolf attack!" Camula orders as her wolf charges in.
"I don't think so. I activate my trap Dark Horizon!" Takeru said revealing his facedown. "Thanks to this I can summon a Dark attribute monster from my deck with an attack equal or less than the damage I just took. And I choose my Dark Magician Girl!" Appearing out of a dark portal, the female Dark Magician appeared at his side.
Dark Magician Girl: 2000/ 1700
As the Werewolf closed in Dark Magician Girl glared at it causing it to retreat.
"So what? Play your little tricks. I'll still win." Camula growls.
"Looks like Magic Boy has a few new tricks up his sleeve," Chazz smirks.
"And with the Dark Magician Girl, we're in for a show." Syrus sighs.
"I hope so." The Crowler doll said.
"My turn." Takeru drew. "I activate the spell Sage's Stone! Since I have a Dark Magician Girl on my field, I can special summon the Dark Magician from my hand or deck straight to the field!"
As a shining stone appeared on the field Dark Magician Girl waved her staff and Dark Magician appeared at her side.
Dark Magician: 2500/ 2100
"Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl on the same field?" Banner smiles.
"Now that's a combo." Alexis smiles.
"It's payback time, Camula!" Takeru snaps. "This one's for Crowler! Dark Magician attack Chaos Command Magician with Dark Magic Attack!"
Thrusting his hand forward Dark Magician destroys Chaos Command Magician.
Takeru: 1600
Camula: 3900
"And this one's for Zane! Dark Magician Girl attack Zombie Werewolf with Dark Burning Magic!" Spinning her staff, Dark Magician Girl blasts Zombie Werewolf destroying it and dealing more damage to Camula.
Takeru: 1600
Camula: 3100
Laughing Camula recovered from this assault. "How quickly we forget. When Zombie Werewolf is destroyed another one comes from my deck with 500 more attack points!" Camula said summoning another werewolf.
Zombie Werewolf: 1700/ 1200
"I end my turn." Takeru growls.
"My turn." Camula drew. "I play the spell, Graceful Charity. First I draw 3 cards and send 2 to the graveyard." Camula said sending some cards to the grave. "Tell me Takeru, do you know what's worse than a Vampire Mistress?"
"I don't know but I bet you're gonna tell me," Takeru said unfazed.
"Correct again. A Vampire Mistress with a grudge! Begone Werewolf! I sacrifice you to summon Vampire Lord!" Camula said sacrificing her werewolf to summon her vampire.
Vampire Lord: 2000/ 1500
"But now I shall remove him from the game in order to summon Vampire Genesis!" Camula said summoning her best Monster.
Vampire Genesis: 3000/ 2100
"3000 attack points?!" Chazz gasps.
"As well as a dangerous special ability. Takeru needs to watch out." Bastion warns.
"He can do it. I know he can." Alexis said hopefully.
"Next I activate the spell Genesis Call! Now once every turn I can add a Zombie-type monster from my deck to my hand." Camula said adding a card to her hand. "And now with my Genesis special ability, I can send my Despair from the Dark to the graveyard in order to summon Ryu Kokki!"
Appearing on the field was a skeleton monster with a body made of skulls, a glowing red center, and an evil grin.
Ryu Kokki: 2400/2000
"And this one has a very special ability. Whenever Ryu Kokki wages battle with a warrior or spellcaster-type monster that monster is automatically destroyed at the end of the battle regardless of who is stronger." Camula declares shocking Takeru.
"But all of Takeru's best cards are Warriors and Spellcasters," Syrus said.
"Exactly she had the perfect monster lined up to face him," Bastion said.
"So even if he beats it, he'll lose his monster and he'll be wide open," Chumley said.
"I know about your Dark Magician Girl's special ability. If I go for your Dark Magician first, she would have gotten stronger. So, that means she must go first." Camula smirks. "Ryu Kokki attack Dark Magician Girl with Skull Bash!" Camula points.
Ripping one of the skulls off its body Ryu Kokki throws it and explodes upon contact destroying her.
Takeru: 1200
Camula: 3100
"How did she know to do that?" Syrus asks.
"I don't know. Camula knows our decks better than anyone. What's more, she's formulated the perfect plan for how to face them." Bastion said.
"It's another one of her cheap tricks," Akiza said.
"I'd hardly call my bat army cheap." Camula cackles as they flew around her and her eyes glowed red. "They were spying on each and every one of you and just as they told me the weaknesses of your pathetic little friends Crowler and Zane they told me yours too. Now Vampire Genesis attack his Dark Magician with Crimson Storm!" Unleashing its attack Vampire Genesis destroys Dark Magician and the resulting shockwave knocked Takeru down to his knees.
Takeru: 700
Camula: 3100
"Takeru's holding on but Camula has way more life points than him," Alexis said.
"For sure, Shadow Charm or not how could ever let him duel Camula? He's just not at the top of his game. We might as well hand over our Spirit Keys right now." Chazz said.
"There's always hope, but with that Vampire Genesis and that Ryu Kokki on the field there isn't much of it," Bastion said.
"Maybe we can bargain with her. Get her in touch with a local Blood Bank." Banner said.
"Okay you Key Keepers might be the worst supportive teammates I've ever seen. Either shut up or start giving some helpful feedback for once." Akiza said.
"I'm with her." Jaden agrees.
"Blood is one thing, but she's hungry for our Spirit Keys." Takeru said.
"Foolish mortal, what I crave is far more than that. Centuries ago, vampires were a proud peaceful race. We lived in harmony with our mortal brothers and sisters. That is, until the Dark Times…until the War. No one knows who struck first, but the fighting was fierce. Neither soldier nor child were spared as the horror and hatred destroyed both our people. I, the last of my race had no choice but to go into hiding. For years I slept, a coffin as my home. Then one day a stranger approached me. The dark power of the Shadow coursed through his body. He offered me a choice: to spend eternity hiding from the world or to accept his Shadow Charm and join his quest for the Sacred Beasts." Camula reached up and touched her gold choker. "For each soul of every duelist I defeat in battle brings me one step closer to reviving my army of vampires and we would suck our vengeance from the bloated vein of humanity!"
"Wow a little too much information with that one." Jaden cringed.
"Wow compared to her, you getting revenge for being bullied is kinda lame," Chazz said as Akiza stomped on his foot making him cringe.
"You know I may not have my cards with me but I still have the power to shut you up." Akiza glares.
"So if you beat me, you'll get my key and a soul to start your undead army?" Takeru realized.
"You're smart for a mortal. Perhaps you'll do us both a favor and just give up Takeru. I'll make it painless." Camula smirks.
"Go to hell lady. I'm not giving up until the last card is played." Takeru drew. "And here's one of them. I play Card of Demise! This card lets me draw until I'm holding 5 cards, but in 5 turns I have to discard my entire hand."
"I think you and I both know this duel won't last that long." Camula smirks as Takeru drew his cards.
"You're right about that. Because I'm ending this duel right here and now. I summon the Keeper of Dragon Magic!" Takeru said as his dragon mage appeared at his side.
Keeper of Dragon Magic: 1800/ 1300
"And thanks to his ability I can pick one fusion monster in my extra deck and summon one of fusion materials to the field facedown. Since I choose Dark Paladin I can summon my Dark Magician to the field." Pulling Dark Magician out of his grave Takeru placed him face down on the field.
"It doesn't matter if he's in attack or defense. He's not strong enough to beat me." Camula said.
"You're right he's not but I have a card that does. You shared a story with me Camula. Now it's my turn to share one with you." Takeru said getting her attention. "There once was an ancient type of magic, but it was so powerful if it got out of control no one could stop it. It had the ability to give any spellcaster the power of one of the fiercest creatures to ever live, the dragons."
"I think I liked the Vampire Genocide story better than this," Chazz said but Alexis elbows him. "Ow. What is it with you girls and all the hitting?"
"But one spellcaster figured out the secret. And today he returns! I play Polymerization! And I fuse my Keeper of Dragon Magic with my Dark Magician!" Takeru said as the two monsters merged together creating a bright red light that blasted through the ceiling and into the night sky.
"What is this?!" Camula gasps as everyone looked to the sky.
"Meet one of the most feared spellcasters in all of Duel Monsters, Red Eyes Dark Dragoon!" Takeru declares as a figure emerged from the red light.
Crashing down on the field we see a magician with white hair, black robes that looked like it was made from a dragon, lined with gold, red and white jewels gleaming from him, a long black tail, two large black wings, and a sharp gleaming spear.
Red Eyes Black Dragoon: 3000/ 2500
"Black Dragoon? But you've never used that card in your deck before. You have to be cheating. You put that in there when I wasn't looking didn't you?" Camula accuses.
"You should know a true magician never reveals his secrets," Takeru smirks as his Red Eyes Dark Dragoon smirked and waved a finger back and forth to emphasize his point.
Looking at Alexis, Takeru winks at her grateful for her and Atticus.
"Fine use him. It won't matter, he's still not stronger than my Vampire Genesis and if you try to battle Ryu Kokki he'll still be destroyed." Camula boasts.
"Oh really? Red Eyes Dragoon why don't we show her just how weak we are? I activate your special ability and target Vampire Genesis!" Takeru points.
Narrowing his eyes at Vampire Genesis, his eyes glowed red as a red and black sphere appeared in his hand before shooting it across the field destroying Vampire Genesis and hurting Camula in the process causing her screams of agony to fill the castle.
Takeru: 700
Camula: 100
"What the what?!" Chumley gasps.
"He just took out her best monster and 3000 life points in one move!" Jaden gasps.
"How is that possible?" Bastion asks in disbelief.
"That's my Dragoon's special ability. He can destroy as many monsters on the field as normal-type monsters used to make him and you take damage equal to its original attack points. And he can't be destroyed by card effects." Takeru said as Camula looked at him.
"Impossible. No card can be that powerful." Camula said.
"There is one drawback. He's unaffected by all card effects both your cards and my cards. Meaning I can't make him any stronger, but with his special abilities I don't need to." Takeru said.
"A card that deals so much damage without even attacking? Incredible." Banner said as Jaden grins.
"He still has his attack," Jaden said as the same determined grin appeared on Takeru's face.
"It's over Camula! Red Eyes Dark Dragoon destroy her Ryu Kokki and end this duel with Inferno Dark Spear!" Takeru said Red Eyes Dragoon's spear glowed blood red.
Spreading his wings, Red Eyes Dark Dragoon shot across the field at a blinding speed impaling Ryu Kokki through the chest and destroying it creating a powerful explosion.
Takeru: 700
Camula: 0000
Falling to her knees, the Vampire Mistress had lost.
"I'm sorry you lost your race Camula. I truly feel bad for you…but your abuse of magic and your actions dug your own grave to the point you can't ever be redeemed." Takeru said.
Appearing behind Camula, the Illusion Gate opened up and a spectral hand reached into Camula's body and yanked her soul through the door before closing shut.
With her soul gone, Camula's body turned to dust causing Zane's doll to fall to the ground.
"Zane's doll." Takeru gasped as it and Crowler's doll began to glow returning Zane to normal size.
"Zane!" Syrus smiles as Crowler appears next to Chazz hugging his stomach in gratitude.
"Get off of me!" Chazz yells.
"Finally, I'm out of that stinking pocket!" Crowler said relieved.
Sighing relieved, Takeru leaned back and was instantly pulled into a hug be Alexis.
"You continue to amaze me." She smiles pecking him on the cheek.
"It's a gift." Takeru chuckles when suddenly the whole castle began to tremble.
"What's going on?!" Jaden panics.
"Camula made this castle. Meaning if she's gone there's nothing to keep this place in one piece." Akiza said.
"Everybody run!" Takeru yells.
As Chumley and Bastion grabbed Zane they sprinted out of the castle as fast as they could.
Making their way to the lakeside, they all looked out to see Camula's castle crumble into nothingness making the clouds disappear and revealing the bright blue sky.
"At last, the nightmare is finally over," Alexis said.
"This one at least," Jaden said looking at Camula's shadow charm before looking at his and Takeru's. "Camula was the 3rd Shadow Rider, which means more are on the way." Jaden declares.
They finally defeated the Vampire, but there were still 5 more Shadow Riders left and each remaining Key Keeper knew this would not be easy.
