[Urahara]
Today was a big day. Not for any good reasons this time unfortunately. 'Back to how things used to be I suppose.' Urahara looked at the roof of the room before sighing. He had grown used to victories over Yagura and many nights of celebration. It was foolish. It wouldn't last forever and he knew it. 'Now is not the time for failure.' Urahara looked at the few people assembled in the room. "Alright, everyone. I know you may be wondering why exactly you were all called here today."
From the brats there was some nods and a resigned look. From his friends, Urahara saw looks of curiosity and resignment as well. They knew this wasn't going to be pretty already but they never got the full scope of the information.
"Welp, we have reason to believe Yagura is working on a Kinjutsu." Urahara saw the looks of horror on all the brats face. He wished they didn't have to be here but they were out of people willing to go at the point they had to join. "Yagura has set up a functioning prison where he holds his prisoners for what we assume is human experimentation, presumably for the Kinjutsu, out at Nabu Island." Urahara began pacing around. "For the brats, Nabu is where a lot of our refugees live. Somewhere in seclusion."
Urahara looked at the tiny crowd again and gauged their expressions. 'Backs straight, hands near their weapons, and worried faces good.' The brats had come a long way since he had last saw any of them. They looked like serious Shinobi now.
"Because of that we need to destroy the prison and kill everyone there. Not only that but we need to retrieve the research that may be there just so we can stop Yagura from completing it and making the Kinjutsu." Urahara stopped pacing around the room. "That is why you are all here." Urahara put down a scroll on the table in front of him and unfurled it. "Each of you are here for a reason. Don't just fight to kill. Fight to destroy. I know it goes against some of your fighting styles to do so but it is what needs to be done."
Urahara took a good look at all of the people in the room. Each person was there with a purpose. Even if they were there last minute. There were ten people in all. Including him. All of them may die. He may die. Urahara knew they all knew that. That was why everyone was quiet. It was a quiet Urahara hated.
"Each of you has a role you need to fulfill. Each of you will go in teams of two so we can go as unnoticed as possible for as long as possible whilst we kill and destroy." Urahara looked at the teams he had written up. "Now you all will have the same goal in mind but there are certain things that some of you will do. That will mean not as much killing. I'm sure you all can guess your roles but I'll tell you them anyways."
First Urahara pointed to Yami and Kanao. "You two will be our medics and our support. If it comes down to it, gas the place." Urahara saw the duo nod with the latter being more hesitant to do so. "Remember Kanao, it is a last resort if we're all dead or gonna die."
"Okay." Kanao nodded.
"Great." Urahara pointed to Seiki and Ameyuri. "You two will try to destroy any of the electronics Yagura may be using. Other than that you two just kill and tear through as many people as you please." Urahara watched the growing grins of the two.
"Alright!" Both announced...
'I swear their banging.' Urahara chuckled mentally. It was nice to see his friends happy. Even if it was about murder. 'Good to know she isn't mad about not being placed with her student. Speaking of the little helion...' He pointed to Kukui and Sanemi. "You two have the special job of causing the most carnage of them all. Normally paring a wind release user with a lightning release user is a bad idea but it's good in this case."
The two high fived. "Sweet, It's been a bit since we've worked together, eh Kukui?" The grey haired boy looked at his friend who was standing beside him.
The little helion nodded, "Yeah." He then looked to Urahara with a smile. A nervous one but still a smile. "There will be nothing left of those we face." Urahara didn't know if Ameyuri's influence was good or not.
Eh not his problem. "Great! Make sure you don't kill any prisoners though." Both nodded. "Alright, Kushimaru you're with your daughter. You're gonna lay traps. Lots of them. Really get into it. " Urahara pointed to the two.
"With plea- Wait! Ito isn't my daughter." Kushimaru protested.
"Nobody mentioned me, Kushimaru-sensei." Ito piped up.
Kushimaru just wilted.
"Okay, that means you're with me, Himiko." Urahara looked at the last known Chinoike. "We're gonna also be causing carnage. We're gonna stick closer to those two idiots so you can have a constant supply of blood for your Jutsu." Himiko's grin was a bit worrying. Especially when Urahara pointed to Kukui and Sanemi. But Urahara paid it no mind. "Any questions before we leave?"
Kukui raised his hand. His nervous grin was now just a nervous expression. "Since this is so important, doesn't that mean there is a possibility of Yagura being there?" It was like a pin had dropped. "What do we do then?"
"There is... It's our biggest worry." Urahara didn't want to lie to the brat. " If he's there then we have two options. Run or die." Urahara watched the boy nod and say nothing more. "Anymore questions? None? Good. Now lets get out of here."
The travel would be a tedious and uncomfortable one. Urahara just hoped that'd be the most they'd need to worry about.
[Kukui Tanku]
Nobody was speaking. Everyone was quiet. No jokes. No talking. It was like we were marching to our deaths. 'Yagura might be there...' It was the worst possibility I could think of. It just made sense though. He would of course keep tabs on his own research. He wasn't stupid at all. Neither was Obito.
'I might die...' I looked down and at the grass, I was running across. It was so pretty. 'This might be one of the last times I ever see it.' I had come close to going back to hell many times. But this might just be the closest brush with death I could have yet. It had the highest chance of being the thing that killed me. I had lived a good second life, right? I had done so much good. 'It all might be meaningless if Yagura succeeds.'
That just meant I needed to fight harder than ever before to live. Yagura is a Kage. One of the stronger ones too. He wasn't one to be taken lightly. But on our side, there are plenty of strong people. I wasn't too confident but I wasn't going to just give up.
We stood a chance. A small one. But it was something.
That was assuming Yagura was actually there at Nabu. If he wasn't then it'd just be a time full of slaughtering those whom deserved it with Sanemi. A fun time indeed. I hoped it was the case since I didn't want to fight Yagura yet. I needed to be stronger. Even with everyone in the group fighting him and winning would be near impossible.
'We'll at least get away... That I'm sure of.' I thought. Nobody would die. Not now at least. We would all get away. 'It's going to be alright Kukui.' As long as Yagura wasn't there then this mission would be a walk in the park. I had the stats and skills to prove it. 'Stats.'

Stamina: 200/200
Strength: 39
Dexterity: 39
Constitution: 40
Chakra: 20

I was starting to enter the 40's of stats. I was stronger than ever before. And with Running and Thunderclap and Flash I was faster than most jonin. I also could use my chakra more efficiently than ever before. I wasn't weak. I could survive. Especially with my skills.
Intermediate Kenjutsu lvl 19:
Ability to use sword of any kind is increased by 95%]
[Intermediate Kirigakure Taijutsu lvl 19:
Ability to use Kirigakure Taijutsu is increased by 95%]
After so many months of trying to level up Intermediate Kenjutsu just seemed like a lost cause. I was getting better. But not enough to get it to go to advanced. It had taken so long that I had managed to get Kirigakure Taijutsu up to level 19 as well. Both were incredible skills because I was basically two times as good Taijutsu and Kenjutsu wise compared to how I'd normally be. But still. IIf I could just get the advanced versions that'd be great.
Maybe it'd be enough to be useful against Yagura if he is at Nabu.
"You okay?" I heard Sanemi ask. "You're out of it man. I get why you would be. But still,"
I shrugged. "Eh." I looked up at the sky. It was as beautiful as the grass. "We might die. Yagura may be there Sanemi and that scares me. We've all talked a lot about this day. But I kinda hoped it happened later." I looked at Sanemi. "We're a lot stronger compared to before. But we're nowhere near Yagura's level."
"No, we aren't yet." Sanemi grinned. "But we will be. And if that bastard isn't here today then someday we'll beat him. You, me, Himiko, and Choujuro will all be there. And we'll all play a part. Yagura won't be there. He's too much of a coward to even leave Kirigakure." He put a hand around my shoulder. "Trust me."
I chuckled. "Alright, I will." I didn't... But Sanemi's words made me feel a bit better. "Sucks that Choujuro had to go on a different mission. He would have loved to be here helping us." I wonder what he's doing. I assume he's also doing something important.
"Yeah," Sanemi gestured to the path we were running across, "He definitely would have loved being on a mission this big and important. Hopefully he's also doing something important. He needs some more confidence still."
I nodded, "He'll be the best of us one day. And hopefully he'll be confident by then. Otherwise, we're gonna need to beat some into him."
Sanemi chuckled. "That doesn't make any sense man,"
"I mock punched him, "Shut up." I laughed as well.
'I hope we all can make it back to Choujuro just to tell him all about the mission.'
[Mei Terumi]
Today was a big day. For good reasons, fortunately. Today was the day she had to meet the Hokage. The travel would be a relatively short one. She had traveled most of the way already with her three guards. Unfortunately, she couldn't take Kushimaru with her instead of Ao to trap the place in case it was a trap since Urahara wanted him for his mission. He also wanted Mangetsu but they compromised on that.
So she was stuck with Ao, Mangetsu, and his apprentice. Which wasn't to say they were weak. No. They were all exceptional shinobi. Even Mangetsu's apprentice. But she would have preferred the literal safety net Kushimaru could provide. Plus Ao was great at managing the rebellion whilst she was gone.
But she had to make do with what she had. It was boring too. Mangetsu and Ao were arguing over something so she was left alone with her thoughts. 'I wonder how their mission is going...' They had probably left base by now and were heading to Nabu which wouldn't be too long of a trip. The problem was going to be if Yagura was there or not.
Mei hoped the bastard wouldn't be there. Knowing Yagura it was about a 50/50 chance that he was there. It wouldn't be very good if she lost most of her best shinobi to Yagura. 'Hopefully this goes well.' Mei thought. There wasn't much of a chance that the Hokage would try and kill her. But that didn't mean there wasn't a chance.
So she had to remain vigilant.
Anyone could be waiting to try and kill them. 'I definitely wouldn't be alive without my paranoia though...' Paranoia was the difference between a good Shinobi and a bad one. Every good up-and-coming shinobi should develop a good sense of paranoia. Speaking of up-and-coming Shinobi, Mei glanced at Mangetsu's apprentice. 'Vigilant and sticking close to me.' It was quite funny how the only one actually trying to guard her was Mangetsu's apprentice. 'His name is Choujuro if I remember correctly.'
He was one of the four kids who Kushimaru picked up and a friend of Ameyuri's apprentice. It had been a year or so since they had joined with the last Chinoike and the other one. It had been a surprise for Mei when Mangetsu showed him off to her as his apprentice. The boy looked nervous and jittery. But Mangetsu said he helped him hold off some Kiri forces when they were poisoning Kiri's drinking water and that impressed him enough to give him a chance.
She still didn't see that then but she respected Mangetsu's choice. But she was starting to see why he was chosen. Mei hadn't seen the boy fight yet but the reports of his fights against Kiri ninja were impressive. And he was determined. One glance at the boy made that obvious. Maybe during this mission, he could be tested?
'On my left... Kiri nin.' Mei felt the presence of the enemy ninja. 'Perfect.' This would be a fine test for Choujuro. Mei glanced at Mangetsu and Ao who stopped bickering. They glanced back and Mei glanced back at Choujuro. The two's silent nods were enough confirmation.
Now she just needed to wait and see if Choujuro could detect the ene-
Before Mei could finish thinking the bandages of the Hiramekarei lookalike unraveled and revealed the duel-handled blade. In the blink of an eye, Choujuro grabbed it and dashed toward the Kiri-nin. "Hiramekarei release!" Chakra spilled out from the blade and seemingly shaped itself into a longsword. With a Battlecry, Choujuro slashed the enemy before they could react.
Within five seconds the man was down.
'Impressive.' Mei thought. 'He waited for the opportune moment to attack and shaped the chakra within the blade for the most effective weapon in this scenario. ' Mei looked at Choujuro who looked proud.
"Good job buddy!" Mangetsu gave Choujuro a pat on the back and a toothy grin. "You got him before he could react. You surprised me there, to be honest." Choujuro shifted under the touch of Mangetsu and smiled. "How'd you move so fast? I thought you were slower."
"Thank you Sensei. I just reacted... I didn't even think about what I was doing until it was already over." Choujuro rubbed the back of his head.
"Impressive instinct then," Mei commented. "Most seasoned chuunin would miss the Kiri-nin." Mei walked over to the person and took off the mask they had on. "They're still alive. Ao, keep them alive until we can interrogate them. Any information they may have could be vital." Ao nodded and Mei looked back at Choujuro, "Good job."
Choujuro bowed, "Thank you Mei-sama."
Mei chuckled. 'He'll be a fun one, I can tell.'
[Yagura Karatachi]
It was almost time. A Yuki had been found. Preparations were being made now for the Sanbi to be put in the final gem and for the Yuki's chakra to be put into the gem. Yagura looked at his crown. It had the first gem on the left put in. A few days ago he had gotten enough chakra extracted to create it. Now it was time for the other two.
Yagura noticed the crown shake as his hands did. 'Everything will go according to plan.' The Rebellion would have raided the place by now if they knew what he was doing and there would be at least five of their strongest here if they even knew he was doing something big.
But nobody was here.
Yagura knew he had free reign to do what he wanted. It was only for a few more days though. The rebellion would find out about this all in due time. But it would be too late for them at that point. Nobody would be able to stop him once he had access to all of the Sanbi's chakra and the Hyoton. He could bring the wrath of the winter down upon the rebellion in due time.
"Are you ready father?" Yagura glanced to the side and saw his daughter standing to the side, patiently. She would be watching the entire operation to ensure no foul play was involved and that nothing went wrong. "You can always back out of this if you are nervous."
Yagura smiled. "Your concern is appreciated Rei but I will continue with the procedure now. If I don't do it now I never will and then I can never be the hero the world deserves. I must do this now before rebellion scum catches wind of this. "
Rei nodded hesitantly. "Okay, father. Do you want to start the operation now?"
Yagura nodded. "I do. Bring in the Yuki whilst everything is prepared." Rei nodded at the order and walked out of the room. Yagura was now alone. Except for the medics and scientists who were checking the equipment over to make sure it was safe.
It was safe, Yagura knew that, but it never hurt to be sure. Especially since this was so important.
Eventually, Rei walked back in, pushing a cage on a cart. "The Yuki is here Father," Rei said before standing to the side and looking at the scientists and medics who were still checking the equipment.
The Yuki was glaring at Yagura whilst trying to escape the cage. "I'll kill you, you bastard! I'll get free and I'll fucking freeze the blood in your veins!"
Yagura chuckled. "How cute coming from someone in your position." Yagura stood up and walked closer to the Yuki. "Especially since you have suppressed seals on. You couldn't even use your Hyoton on yourself. And without it you're pathetic."
The Yuki shook the cage more. "You only say that because you're outside the cage. Why don't you come in here? It's more than big enough for the two of us." Yagura narrowed his eyes at the man. "Oh that got you mad, didn't it you little midget?"
Yagura stopped himself from kicking the man. "My height isn't an indicator of my skill level. I'm sure even if I had my arms cut off and I was flayed I would still kill you in a second." Yagura turned away from the Yuki. "Is everything ready yet?"
The scientist closest to Yagura nodded. "It is. The procedure will take a long time so we had to ensure everything was perfect for you Yagura-sama."
Yagura smiled. "Thank you. I appreciate your hard work." Yagura truly meant it too. "Now, let us get started."
[Chapter end]
Holy shit. This was one of my favorite chapters yet! I wrote this chapter without planning it so I could get a better idea of what the rest of the arc could look like. I have a vision now. I know what I'm going to do with this arc and how it can all make sense now.
Anyways as for the chapter itself, each part was a joy to write. Urahara explaining the mission was a great opportunity. I could bring back the two side characters from like 20 chapters ago. They'll finally have some importance! Also, I made each team up for a reason. Each team has a purpose that they need to fulfill and they will do it. I gave Kukui and Sanemi the slaughtering role together for a very specific reason too. :D
Anyways Kukui thinking upon the mission, his stats, and talking with Sanemi was fun to write as well. I haven't really used Sanemi a lot in this fic. So I wanted him and Kukui to interact some more. This was a great opportunity to flesh his character out more.
I always wondered how Choujuro and Mei had gotten close in canon. Or how did Mei trust Choujuro enough to have him be one of her bodyguards at the Five Kage Summit. So this is where I'm planting the seeds for that to happen in this fic to satiate my curiosity. Not gonna lie, it was fun.
And last we have Yagura getting ready to become stronger than ever before. Will he succeed? Will he die? Will he live but the operation fail? Who knows! I don't yet. But I have an idea of what could happen.
I feel like asking a question today, Have you guys seen the Shibuya arc in JJK? It's good. I recommend JJK as a whole really.
