B'Elanna stared at the pregnancy test and saw the positive sign. How was it possible? She knew how babies were made, but this was something different. She had to think when the last time Tom and she had sex. They had given the kids to his parents for the weekend because she had to study for a test and Tom was finishing up his first holodeck story. B'Elanna leaned back against the toilet. They had realized that they had a night to themselves. B'Elanna smiled because they had needed it. They weren't even trying for another baby. They had two healthy children. Miral was four and Xavier was one. They were happy.
"Mommy," Miral yelled before coming into the bathroom.
"Yes, sweetheart," B'Elanna smiled at her daughter.
"Daddy, said that breakfast is ready," Miral smiled.
B'Elanna nodded. "Tell Daddy, I will be down in a moment," She watched her daughter as she ran from the bathroom.
B'Elanna finished getting ready before making her way downstairs to the kitchen. Miral was sitting at the island. Tom was holding Xavier, who wanted to get out of his father's arms. B'Elanna knew that if Tom set down their son, he would be gone. He was fast and would find something to get in trouble with and they didn't have time to run after him. They had to get the kids to day care and B'Elanna had to get to class, and Tom had a meeting with his publishers about his holodeck story. B'Elanna got herself some coffee before taking Miral and getting her shoes on.
They finished getting ready for the day in a routine. B'Elanna kissed the kids outside the transporter before making her way down there. B'Elanna took a seat and thought about how she was going to tell Tom that they were going to have another baby. She didn't know if this was the right time to have a baby, but she had a feeling that Tom would be happy. She was going into her second year of her master's degree and Tom was just publishing his first holodeck story. The kids were still young. She thought that they were done. They had one of each and were happy with them. The transporter stopped at the academy and B'Elanna got off with thoughts about how to tell Tom about the newest member of the Torres-Paris family.
B'Elanna entered her home with Miral running into her legs, B'Elanna bent down and kissed the top of her head and hugged her. Miral took her hand and led her to the kitchen. Tom was putting the finishing touches on dinner. Xavier was in the family room surrounded by toys. Xavier saw his mom and started making his way, B'Elanna made her way over to him and picked him up and put him in the highchair. Miral took her seat as Tom put the last dish on the table. He came over and gave her a kiss before taking a seat.
They spent dinner hearing about Miral's day at school. After dinner, they spent some time with the kids before putting them to bed. Tom and B'Elanna went back to the family room to pick up the toys. "How was your meeting today?" B'Elanna asked.
Tom smiled. "It went well. They said they will release the holodeck story in the next couple of months. I can't wait. How was school today?"
B'Elanna told him how her day was as they sat down on the couch. She thought that it might be the right time to tell him about the baby. "Tom."
"Hmm," Tom said as he closed his eyes.
"How do you feel about having another baby?" B'Elanna asked.
"Maybe in another year or so. I don't think right now is the time. You have school and I'm working on my first holodeck story," Tom gave B'Elanna a look. "Where is this coming from?"
B'Elanna took a breath. She didn't know what to say because she thought that he would have a different respond to her question. "Someone at the academy was talking about babies and it got me thinking."
Tom nodded but he didn't believe his wife. "Okay."
B'Elanna stood and headed for the stairs. "I'm going to bed," She didn't see Tom nod.
When B'Elanna got to her room and grabbed the PADD next to her side of the bed, she opened the latest Klingon romance novel that she was reading. She could only read a few pages because now she wasn't sure if Tom would be happy that she was pregnant again. She put down her PADD, ran a hand through her hair before she started to pace the room. Now she didn't know how she would tell Tom about the baby. She took another breath. She was going to have to tell him before it was too late.
The door opened and Tom came in. "Is everything okay?" Tom asked. He stood by the door for an easy escape.
"I'm fine, Tom," B'Elanna kept pacing.
Tom raised an eyebrow. "B'Elanna, I know you and you are not fine," Tom stepped into the room.
"I told you that I was fine," B'Elanna hissed at him.
Tom tried to reach out for her, but B'Elanna moved out of way. "You are not fine. So, tell me what is going on?"
B'Elanna took a pillow off the bed and threw it at Tom. Tom caught the pillow and threw it on the floor. B'Elanna picked up another pillow and threw it at her husband. Tom ducked his head and the pillow hit the closed door. B'Elanna realized that Tom had closed the door behind him. She knew that he didn't want to wake the children. A pillow wasn't going to work, so she needed something harder. She picked up a hairbrush on the dresser and threw it at Tom.
The brush hit him in the head. Tom touched the spot where she hit him. "What hell, B'Elanna?"
"I'm pregnant," B'Elanna yelled at him. "I was trying to tell you, but you seemed like it was a bad idea. I know right now is not the best right now, but I figured you say something different."
Tom slowly made his way to his wife. "B'Elanna, how many times have we been to hell?" B'Elanna gave a small smile. "I think we can do this. Yes, it will be hard," He took B'Elanna into his arms. "But we can do this." He leaned down and kissed her.
B'Elanna broke the kiss. "So, you are happy?" Tom smiled and nodded. "Good because we are done after this." Tom only smiled more before taking her lips again.
