Selena's shift in Sickbay was boring. She had only a few people that came through, but most of what was wrong was minor. She had done everything the Chief Medical Officer had asked. She was just settling down with a PADD to read a letter from her sister, when the door opened.
A dark hair man walked in. Selena hasn't seen him before and she has been on this ship for a year. She would have six more years to go. This is what happens when you get accepted in Starfleet medical and must do your residency on a Starship.
"Excuse me," The man had a deep voice that had Selena heart race. "Doctor."
Selena stood from her desk. "Yes," She grabbed her medical tricorder. She had him sit on a bed. "What is wrong?" She asked as ran the tricorder over him.
"I have an upset stomach," He said.
"Everything looks good," Selena headed back to her desk and picked up her PADD.
"What are you reading?" The man asked.
"You can leave," Selena read the first line of the letter. "Nothing is wrong with you."
"So, what are you reading?"
"A letter from my sister." Selena sighed. She might just kill this man.
"Ah, I hope its good news," He smiled. It was a smile that could have a woman's heart melt.
"She is telling me about her three children," Selena threw the man a look.
"Is your sister on Earth?" He asked.
"No," She gave him a strange look. "Who the hell are you?" She asked.
"Stephen Parker," He smiled like she should know who he was. He didn't know give a rank, she looked at him to see that he couldn't be more than thirty. "Where does your sister live?"
"Q'onoS," Selena was still trying to place him. "What do you do on the ship?" She asked. If he could ask twenty questions so could she.
"I'm a pilot," He gave a half smile. Selena felt that he would use that smile on any woman who would ask what he did. Selena rolled her eyes. That wouldn't work on her. Her father was a pilot, and her brother designs ships for Starfleet. "Did your sister marry a Klingon?" He asked.
She shot him a strange look because one of the first things that people notice about her is her faint ridges. Most knew she had Klingon blood. "Yes. If you are a pilot, what are you doing in sickbay?"
He smiled. "I'm hiding. How did she meet her husband?"
"What are you hiding from?" Selena asked. He lifted one eyebrow, waiting for her to answer his question. "They met through my cousin, Vom."
"I have a meeting with the captain," He looked at the door. "How old are your nieces and nephews?"
Selena smiled. She knew the captain personally. He was an old friend of her parents. Both of her parents would say that he was their first friend on Voyager. "The captain is a good guy. You wouldn't be on this ship if he didn't want you to be. I think you can do this."
He raised his eyebrows at her. "How do you know the captain, Doctor?"
Selena smiled. "He is a family friend." Stephan narrowed his eyes at her. It only made her smile grow. "You could say that he helped my parents get together."
"Lieutenant Parker, report to the bridge," Captain Harry Kim's voice came over the comms.
Stephan jumped off the bed and headed for the door. "Duty calls," He stopped at the door. "You have a beautiful smile," He left before she could say anything. Selena blushed. She now knew him as the new Chief Helmsman of the ship.
Selena was in the mess hall waiting for a friend to have dinner together. They knew each other in the academy and while Selena became a doctor, April Morgen went into engineering. April would complain about Dr. Torres to Selena before she realized that they were mother and daughter. Selena loved her friend and was glad that they were servicing on the same ship.
"Please tell me you are waiting for a friend," Selena looked up and saw Lieutenant Parker, standing there with a tray of food. She saw how dark blue his eyes were.
"I am," Selena looked around to April entered the mess hall and was looking for her. Selena was ready to wave her over when she saw Stephen standing next to her table. April just turned on her foot and walked out, not before Selena caught the look in her eyes. April was going to ask about Lieutenant Parker. Selena let out a moan.
"It seems that your friend had forgotten that she had other plans," Stephen took the opportunity to take a seat across from her. "Did you enjoy your sister's letter?"
"Yes," Selena smiled. "Did you have your meeting with Captain Kim?"
"Yes, you were right. He is a good man." He took a bite of his food. "You didn't get a chance to tell me the ages of your nephews and niece."
"You were called away," Selena smiled. "The boys are three and the only girl is one. Do you have any siblings?"
"I have an older brother. Do you have any other siblings?" He asked. Selena didn't notice as the group of people left, and another group came in.
"I have an older brother, who's lives in San Francisco with his wife. Where is your family from?"
"London," Selena could hear the accent in his voice. It only made him cuter. "Where did you grow up?"
"The Bay Area. What do your parents do?"
"They are lawyers. Are your parents apart of Starfleet?"
"My mother is a professor at the academy, but my father is not." They spent the rest most of the night. It was the last question that got to her.
"Are you single?" Stephen asked.
"Yes. Are you single?" Selena asked. She didn't know how she would feel if he said he was in a relationship.
"I am. Can I take you on a proper date?"
"So, are you going on a date with him?" April asked. April had dropped by Sickbay before her sift in Engineering. April wanted to know what was going on between Selena and the new Chief Helmsman.
"I don't know. I sort of ran out of the mess hall," Selena frown.
"What is wrong with him. I mean he is cute, and I heard him talk to Lieutenant Cox and he knows his shit," April looked over Selena's shoulder to see if Dr. Jamieson was there.
"Dr. Jamieson be on standby," Captain Kim said over the comm.
Dr. Jamieson came over. "Conversation over ladies. I'm going to need you, Dr. Paris." April and Selena nodded to each other.
"Transporting the wounded to sickbay," Commander Jax said.
Selena and Dr. Jamieson head for the surgery bed. Dr. Jamieson had her medical tricorder ready. A body appeared on the bed and Selena let out a moan. The body that was on the bed was Lieutenant Stephen Parker. He looked lifeless on the bed. Selena could barely see his pulse
"Dr. Paris. Dr. Paris can you do this?" Dr. Jamieson asked.
"Sorry, Doctor. What do you need me to do?" Selena got in her doctor head and did what needed to do.
They got him stable, and time was all he needed. Dr. Jamieson left for her office and all Selena could do was stare at him. He could have died today, and she would feel bad about not going on a date with him. She knew that they had a connection from the start. She was scared that he would hurt her more than she could hurt him. She could hear April in her mind telling her to go for it. She knew it was a risk, she knew that he had dreams of commanding his ship and something could happen to him.
Selena made her way to the side of bed. "If you make it. I will go out with you," She whispered in his ear. Selena thought that she saw a smile on his face as she walked away.
