"Daddy, where do babies come from?" Miral asked her father.
Tom wasn't expecting that question so early this morning. He choked on his coffee. He looked at his wife to see that she was laughing in her coffee mug. Miral looked at him with her mother's brown eyes to see she wanted an answer to her question. He took a breath to clear his throat of the hot coffee. "Where did this question come from?"
"You and Mommy said that my new sister is inside her tummy, and I asked Mommy how she got there, and Mommy said to ask you." Miral said.
Tom looked at B'Elanna round belly. She was carrying their third child. Tom went from her belly to her eyes to see innocent in her eyes. Tom knew that she wasn't innocent about where babies come from. They had plenty of practice of where babies come from before they even had their first. He wanted to know why she decided that he had to tell their five-year-old daughter where babies come from.
"Daddy," Miral said. Tom looked back at his daughter. She was still waiting for an answer.
Tom took a breath as he thought about what he was going to say to his daughter. He looked over to his almost two-year-old son to see that he wasn't paying attention to them. "Well, when daddy loves mommy, they want to show that love to each other. They show that love by having a baby. So, mommy gets a baby growing inside of her." Tom sighed. He hoped that Miral would take the answer that he was giving her. He knew later in life B'Elanna was going to have that talk with her.
"Okay, Daddy." Miral jumped off the bar stool and headed for the toys in the family room. Xavier saw that his sister was done and wanted to follow her to the toys. He voiced his opinion and Tom took him off the bar stool. Tom watched his son make his way over to the toys.
Tom took moment and watched his children play to make sure that they were not paying attention to him or B'Elanna. Out of the corner of his eye Tom saw that B'Elanna was trying to leave the kitchen and make her way to her office. "You are going nowhere, Ms. Torres."
"I was going," B'Elanna started before Tom pulled her closer to him. He took her coffee mug out of her hands and placed it on the counter.
"Nowhere," Tom leaned closer to her. B'Elanna opened her mouth to say something but Tom covered her mouth with his. He broke the kiss after a moment. They both knew that they could get lost in each other and Tom had a bone to pick with her. "I think you know where babies come from," He placed a hand on her belly and felt their daughter kick.
B'Elanna wrapped her arms him. "Oh, I definitely know where babies come from, but I didn't know what to tell Miral."
"You couldn't come up with something to tell her," Ran his lips along her neck.
"I was working on homework when she asked and can up with the first answer that came to mind," B'Elanna let out a moan.
Tom backed away from his wife because they didn't want their two children to see how babies were made. "So, ask Daddy was the answer you came up with," Tom gave her a look.
B'Elanna smiled. "Yep," B'Elanna felt a pain in her back. "Oh," She said. Tom looked at her with concern. B'Elanna smiled. "I think it's almost time to meet this little one," B'Elanna placed a hand on belly.
Tom took a sigh, ran a hand through his hair. He had done this before. He knew what he had to do. "Alright," He said. B'Elanna started to walk around the house to help with contractions.
He went and called his mom, so she could come and watch Miral and Xavier while Tom took B'Elanna to Starfleet Medical. All his mother did was smile and told him that she would be there in a few minutes. Tom ran to make sure that B'Elanna had her bag ready.
"Tom, I need you to calm down. It is going to be second before she comes. Remember with Xavier," Tom nodded before going to help B'Elanna walk.
Tom's mother was there in twenty minutes. Tom nodded at his mother before taking B'Elanna to the transporter that was waiting to take them to Starfleet Medical. Tom made sure that B'Elanna was in the transporter before getting in himself. The transporter went quickly to Starfleet Medical.
The transporter dropped them off and there was a nurse waiting for them. She helped them in the hospital and to the floor that they needed. B'Elanna was in room before Tom took a breath. B'Elanna's doctor came in and checked on her. She told them that everything was moving along as it was.
Tom helped B'Elanna walk around because the contractions were coming closer. Tom also knew that he was going to have no feeling in his hand later in the day. When the doctor came in for the last time, they both knew that it was time to have a baby. Tom helped settle B'Elanna on the bed, he kissed her on the forehead before she had to start pushing.
Tom heard that he was never touching her again. He knew that it wasn't true because this was number three for them. He held onto her hand as she pushed. Tom was glad when the doctor told them that she saw the head. The rest of their daughter came out very easily. It wasn't like B'Elanna hasn't done this before.
They placed the baby on B'Elanna bare chest, as they finished with the afterbirth and cutting the cord. Tom looked down at his newest daughter. She was so tiny. She had the same kind of ridges that her siblings had. Her eyes were closed, so he couldn't find out the color they were. There was a dark hair on top of her head. Tom looked at B'Elanna with tears in his eyes.
"She's beautiful," Tom leaned down and kissed B'Elanna than kissed his daughter for the first time.
B'Elanna smiled as they took their daughter away to be cleaned. "You said that about all our children."
Tom smiled. "Because it is true," They handed B'Elanna a clean baby.
Tom looked down at her. "So, Selena Judith Paris, welcome to our world." Tom reached for her and B'Elanna let him have her.
B'Elanna closed her eyes. She tired and needed some sleep before they took Selena home the next day. "Tom, we are done making babies," B'Elanna mumbled. Tom laughed as B'Elanna fell asleep. Tom looked down at his daughter to see that she was looking up at him with his blue eyes.
