"Mom, I need you sit down," Selena told her mother who was standing in the doorway looking for something.
B'Elanna looked at Selena but Selena knew that she wasn't really looking at her. "Where is Tom?" She asked.
Selena didn't want to tell her mother that her father was gone. He has been gone a year now. Selena and her siblings started to notice that their smart mother wasn't all there. Selena sighed. "Dad is…"
"I don't care about your dad," B'Elanna waved Selena away. "I want to know where my Tom is?"
Selena was losing her patience with her mom; she ran a hand through her hair. Selena had taken a year off Starfleet to take care of her mom. It was something that she and siblings agreed on. They kept it best to keep in the house that she and Dad lived so many years in. Selena took a breath before saying. "Tom stepped out for a moment. We'll see him soon." B'Elanna smiled. "Why don't you come and eat before he comes back."
"Okay," Selena took her mother's hand and led her to the table.
"Who are you?" B'Elanna asked. Selena wanted to cry because her mom didn't know who she was.
"I'm your…" Selena was ready to say daughter but thought better of it "I'm Selena Parker," She used her husband's last name because her mother would just ask questions to why she had the last name Paris.
Selena got her mother to sit down and have some food. She didn't like seeing her mother this way. Ever since her father died, she felt that they were losing their mother. At first it was fine but then her mother asked where Dad was, and it was Xavier that told her that her husband was died. She asked how he died, and the answer didn't please her. Xavier called Miral and her to ask what they should do about mom. Her doctor thought it best to keep her in the house that they shared together for so many years. Selena and her siblings thought that it was best that she should take a year off to take care of their mother.
"Is Tom coming?" B'Elanna asked.
Selena closed her eyes. She didn't know how to answer the question. "Soon," It was all she could say. "Why don't we go and sit on the couch?"
B'Elanna nodded. Selena helped her mother to the couch. Selena sat next to her mother when her mother turned on the screen. Selena wondered what her mother wanted to watch when she asked for videos from Voyager.
Selena started to see a younger version of her father and mother. They looked to be in their late twenties. Whatever they were doing had them dirty, but they were laughing about something. Selena saw Harry Kim to the side, laughing at the two of them. Selena saw that her father was in love with her mother, but he must have not told her yet. It was like he knew that she would have to find her own way to love.
"We were working on the shuttle to get it to wrap ten," B'Elanna smiled as she watched them.
The video changed and B'Elanna and Tom were sitting in the mess hall just talking and it late because they were the only ones thee. Selena could tell that her mother was falling for her father, but she was hiding it. Selena wanted to shake her head at her parents. She wondered how Harry Kim felt when he was in the same room with them.
The next video was Tom ringing B'Elanna's chime and entering. At first it was them just talking about what they wanted in a relationship and then Selena had to turn away from the screen because there were some things that you shouldn't see from her parents.
Selena hoped for the video to change when she someone come in. Selena got up to see who it was. She smiled when she saw that it was her niece, Riley. She smiled at her. "Hello, Aunt Selena."
"Hello, Riley. How are you?" Selena asked. She knew that her niece was married with young children.
"Good. I came to check up on you and Grandma," Riley looked from Selena to B'Elanna. "What is she watching?"
"Old Voyager videos, with her and your grandfather in. I just walked away from a video of them practicing on making babies," Selena sighed.
Riley laughed. "You wouldn't be here if they didn't practice making babies."
"Don't remind me," Selena mumbled.
Riley went over to her grandmother to see what video she was on. "They look like they are in car driving down a road. I thought cars are a thing of the past."
"They are. Your grandfather Tom had things for twentieth century Earth."
"I wonder," Riley looked like she had a thought and Selena was wondering where she was going with this. "Do you think that they have a box with things from Voyager."
"I'm going to guess so," Selena said. "It would probably be in the basement," Riley nodded. "Where are you going with all this?"
"I wondered how Grandma would react with things from that period in her life," Riley smiled.
"Mo…B'Elanna I'll be right back," Selena felt weird calling her mother by her first name.
Selena and Riley went downstairs to the basement. They passed the guest room, her dad's office, and the holosuite before coming to a door that held things from the past. Selena opened the door and saw boxes and shelves. Riley started on one side and Selena started on the other. She opened boxes that came from her own childhood. She found old family things that had passed down from her grandparents to her parents. When she came across couple of boxes from Voyager. In them she saw pictures and old nick knacks.
"Riley over here," Selena said to her niece.
"Wow," Riley picked up a picture. "That must be Grandma," She pointed to B'Elanna in an old Starfleet uniform. She had her arms crossed like she didn't like being in Starfleet. "What do you think she was thinking about?"
"I don't know," Selena put the picture back and closed the lid. "Grab that box," Selena pointed to another box. Riley nodded and took the box.
They made their way upstairs to family room. B'Elanna hadn't moved. She was watching a video of her and Tom. Selena couldn't tell what they were doing but it was making her mother happy.
"Hey, B'Elanna I found some things that you might like," Selena placed one of the boxes on the coffee table.
B'Elanna opened the first box and found the picture of her in Starfleet uniform. B'Elanna laughed but Selena saw tears rolling down her face. Selena thought that this might not be a good idea when B'Elanna said. "This was taken right after I became lieutenant of engineering. I had such a chip on my shoulder than."
She set the picture down and picked up another. B'Elanna would say something or not before putting the picture on the pile. Selena and Riley sat there and heard the stories that they might not have heard before. She picked up old things and set them to the side. Until there was only one more thing in the boxes. Selena and Riley watched as she picked up the picture of her Voyager family.
"This was my family," She touched the picture. "Now they are all gone," B'Elanna was right about that. Janeway, Chakotay, Tuvok, Tom, and Neelix were gone. The only ones that were alive were B'Elanna, Harry, The Doctor and Seven. Harry had retired from Starfleet and was living in his home state of South Carolina. No one knew what was going on with Seven. The doctor was the only one here in San Francisco.
Selena smiled as an idea came to her. One of all of them there was only one that stayed the same. Selena looked over her mother to her niece. "I have an idea."
Riley looked at her aunt. "What?"
"It might be hard, but I think he will come," Selena said.
"Who?" Riley asked. She didn't know where her aunt was going with this.
"An old friend," Selena said. Riley nodded. She still didn't know what her aunt was saying.
Selena wrote to him, and it didn't take long for to reply to her. Selena didn't have to wait long for him to knock on the door a couple of days later. Selena opened the door to see the face of The Doctor.
"Hello, Doctor," Selena smiled at him.
The Doctor smiled at her. "Hello, Selena. Where is your mother?"
Selena frowned. "She is in the family room," Selena pointed the way to the family room.
Selena followed The Doctor to the family room. B'Elanna was watching videos again of Tom and the people on Voyager. "Hello, B'Elanna."
B'Elanna looked up at The Doctor and smiled. "Hello, Doctor."
The doctor took a seat next to B'Elanna and started to talk to her. Selena thought that it best to leave them. She made her way to the kitchen to grab a coffee. She hoped that this would be good for her mother. She could hear them talking about their time on Voyager. A tear ran down Selena's face as she heard her mom brighten up. She sat at the island and tried to calm her nerves. Selena didn't have a good feeling about this.
The Doctor came in the kitchen after an hour. The doctor looked at her and gave a sad smile. "I don't think that your mother has very long to live. She told me that she was ready to see her Tom."
Selena nodded. She didn't know what else to say. She knew it was coming since they lost her father a year ago. Selena knew that since they lost her father, they had started to lose her too. Selena stood and led The Doctor to the door. "Thank you for coming," Selena held the door opened for him. The Doctor nodded as he left.
Selena closed the door, leaned against it, and let the tears fall. Selena took a breath because she needed to contact her siblings. She stood and made her way to the computer. She called her siblings and told them what was going on and that the end was near. Neither one of them liked it, but they would make their way to San Francisco. Selena also called her husband and sons to let them know what was going on. Stephen knew right away that she needed him. Both of her sons said that they would do what they could to get to San Francisco as they were both in Starfleet.
The next morning, B'Elanna wouldn't get out of bed. Selena took a breath but left her mother with videos playing and with pictures of B'Elanna time on Voyager. The next day Xavier and Peata showed up with children and grandchildren. Selena was surprised to see her nephew and his family because when they weren't in space they lived on Vulcan. Selena felt some comfort from the arms of her brother because they were both close to their parents. The next person to show was her husband, being an admiral had it perks. Selena was surprised to see her both of their sons there because they were climbing the ranks in Starfleet. Miral and her family were the last to show up. They had all the grandkids too.
The day after her sister arrived, B'Elanna passed away. The third siblings stood there over her body for an hour before calling the undertaker. Selena took a breath because they had a funeral to plan.
The day of the funeral was sunny and bright. They had the funeral outside in their backyard because it would hold everyone that was going to be here. Selena stood in her old room as she got dress. She looked outside to see who was coming to funeral. She saw her mother's Klingon family and her cousin, Elizabeth holding the arm of a grandson. Selena saw Harry Kim make his way up the path. The Doctor also showed up. Selena was surprised to see Seven of Nine here. Selena also saw Starfleet uniforms making their way up. Selena knew that her mother had taught most of them at the Academy.
"Are you ready?" Selena turned around and saw her husband standing there in his dress uniform. Selena nodded and Stephen held out his hand. She took his hand and let him led her out of the room.
She made her way her way to the stairs and stopped when she saw her family, standing around the house. Some were in Starfleet uniforms and others were in black. The kids were running around. Selena let out a tear as she made her way downstairs towards her siblings and spouses. She hugged her siblings before funeral planner came over to them. "Are we ready?" Selena looked behind her and saw the family starting to form a line. Parents having a hand on their children.
"Yes."
Miral and D'stil led the way out of the door to the five rows reversed for family. Xavier and Peata were next, and Selena and Stephen followed them. The rest of the family followed them to the five rows. Selena sat next to her husband and sister-in-law. Peata reached for her hand and gave it a squeeze.
"We are gathered here to honor Commander B'Elanna Torres…"
A/N: I hoped you liked the chapter. Thank you. I just wanted to say that I got to meet and take a picture with Kate Mulgrew at Mission Chicago. -sjt
