Tom walked around the basement to see what he wanted to do with the space before he talked to B'Elanna about his dream about writing. B'Elanna was about to have their second child. A boy. They knew any moment that B'Elanna would go into labor and B'Elanna was ready for the baby to come. They also were taking care of their three-year-old daughter and Miral was running all over the house with her stuff animal. She loved that this house was all theirs and she could go anywhere she wanted.
Tom smiled as he could hear Miral running around. Tom felt that they made the right decision giving up space and making a home on Earth for their family. Miral and the new baby needed a place to run and play. The house had a great backyard and Tom was thinking about building a swing set for them. He really needed to talk to B'Elanna about what they had planned. He was needed at the academy tomorrow to train the pilots. B'Elanna had her classes to think about for her to finish up her bachelor's degree.
Tom made his way upstairs to see B'Elanna sitting in the family room while Miral was running around. There were toys all around the room. B'Elanna was rubbing her belly. Tom stopped by the replicator and ordered water for B'Elanna before making his way into the family room.
"Daddy," Miral ran to him. Tom stopped her before she made him drop the water. "Where did you go?"
Tom glanced down at B'Elanna to see that she was wondering where he went to. "Here," He handed the water to B'Elanna. Tom took a seat as B'Elanna and Miral, both watched him waiting for an answer. "I was looking downstairs," B'Elanna raised an eyebrow. It didn't matter to Miral because she went back to her toys.
B'Elanna leaned her head against his shoulder. She was ready for their son to come. Tom took the glass of water and set it on the table. "What were you doing in the basement?" B'Elanna asked.
"I was looking at what space we had down there," Tom said.
B'Elanna raised her head to look him in the eyes but before she could B'Elanna let out a moaned. "Tom it is time." Tom eyes grew wide as he knew what B'Elanna was talking about. Their son was coming right now. Tom stood quickly because he wasn't going to miss this one. He started to pace the room and running his hand through his hair. "Tom, call your mom so she can watch Miral." B'Elanna shouted at him.
Tom nodded before calling his mom. His mother laughed and told him that she would be there soon. "Where is your bag?" They had just finished unpacking and he couldn't remember where they had put B'Elanna's bag for the hospital.
B'Elanna sighed. She hoped that he wouldn't be like this with the birth of their son, but she didn't hold her breath. She knew that he didn't want to miss Xavier's birth like he missed Miral. She knew that he held some guilt because of missing Miral's birth even when he had no control over it. "Tom, my bag is the door where we put it two days ago. Come and help me stand," B'Elanna held out her hand for him to take. Tom helped her up. "We still have time my contractions are still twenty minutes apart," B'Elanna shouted as a contraction passed.
Miral looked up from her toys. "Is Mommy, okay?" She was worried.
B'Elanna smiled as she looked at Miral. "Yeah, your brother wants to come today. Grandma should be here soon." Miral nodded before going back to her toys.
Julia Paris walked in and saw her son helping his wife walk around the room. She wondered if he was as nervous as his father was when she was pregnant. She knew that he had missed Miral's and told himself that he wasn't going to miss another. "I'm here," She said to the room.
"Grandma," Miral ran to her. Julia bent down and picked up the young girl.
Julia turned to Tom. "Take your wife to the hospital, there is a transporter waiting outside for you."
Tom nodded, grabbed B'Elanna's bag and hand, and headed out of the door. He helped her into the transporter. He didn't need to tell the pilot where to go because he already knew. The transporter took them to Starfleet Medical. They made their way through the hospital until they came to maternity ward. They took B'Elanna to a room. The doctor came into the room and checked on B'Elanna and told them that they had some time before Baby Boy Paris came.
Tom spent most of the time walking B'Elanna around the room. He didn't know how B'Elanna did it. He knew that this was her second time, but he wasn't around when she was giving birth to Miral.
"Tom, you wanted to tell me something," B'Elanna said breathy as she was letting out a breath.
"No, I didn't," Tom rubbed B'Elanna's back.
"Tom, I know you," B'Elanna yelled out the last word as a contraction passed.
"We'll talk about it later after this little is here," Tom looked down and wondered when their son was coming.
B'Elanna shook her head. The nurse came in to check on B'Elanna. "Your son is coming in his own time," The nurse smiled. It was the nurse way of saying that Xavier was taking his time coming.
B'Elanna moaned. "He is stubborn."
Tom let out a little chuckle. "He is your son."
B'Elanna tried to hit him but Tom moved out of the way. "He is also your son. I remember you being there when we conceived hm."
"Does that mean he is very stubborn?" Tom smiled.
"Both of our children are very stubborn," B'Elanna let out a moan. Tom moaned that wasn't very good. He can see how it was going to be with two instead of one. Miral only liked it one way right now. Tom didn't know how she was going to take being a big sister. They had told her that B'Elanna was having a baby and things were changing with a new baby.
"How do you think Miral is going to be with her new baby brother?" Tom asked as he helped B'Elanna take a seat on the bed.
B'Elanna laughed. "I think at first she is going to be okay, but when she realizes how much attention we are giving him, she is going to get difficult." Tom nodded.
The nurse came in a couple hours later and checked on B'Elanna. "I have to say that it is time. I'll get the doctor."
While they were waiting for the doctor, Tom got B'Elanna comfortable on the bed. The doctor came into the room and checked on B'Elanna before smiling. "Are you ready to push?"
"Yes," B'Elanna shouted.
Tom stood by B'Elanna's side and held her hand as the doctor told her to push. "I see the head, I'm going to need one big push," The doctor said. B'Elanna pushed and they had the head. "Now we just have to get shoulders out," The doctor said. B'Elanna pushed until the shoulders came out. It wasn't long before the rest of him came out. They cut the cord and placed a screaming baby on B'Elanna's bare chest. He was full of blood but to Tom he looked perfect. He counted ten fingers and ten toes. He didn't have any hair, but his eyes were blue. Tom wondered if they were going to stay the same or were going to change like his sister's eyes.
Tom saw that B'Elanna was crying as she held their son to her. The nurse came up and took Xavier from her so they could clean him. The doctor finished with B'Elanna before they brought Xavier back wrapped in a blanket. B'Elanna held on to her son.
"Would you like to hold him?" B'Elanna said. Tom nodded and B'Elanna gave Tom Xavier.
Tom held on to his son for the first time. He was so tiny. He knew that his son was going to grow, but this was the first. Tom remembered when he held Miral for the first time and how happy he was. Tom couldn't hide the happiness he was feeling now with Xavier. Tom looked away from Xavier to his wife. "You did a good job," Tom leaned down and kissed B'Elanna on the lips.
"We did," B'Elanna sighed.
Tom kissed Xavier on the top of his head. "Welcome to the world, Xavier Thomas Paris."
"So, what were you planning for our basement?" B'Elanna asked. They had just returned home from the hospital with Xavier. Tom had finished putting Miral to sleep.
Tom made his way over to the bed. He looked down at Xavier who was sleeping in his mother's arms. Xavier didn't like sleeping in the bassinet at the foot of the bed. He only liked to be held. Tom took a sigh before saying something to his wife.
"We have all that space down there, I was thinking we could do a guest room, office, and a holodeck."
Xavier started to fuss and B'Elanna started to rock him. "What would need with a holodeck?" B'Elanna asked.
"Do you remember all those programs I would make on Voyager?" Tom asked. B'Elanna nodded. "You wouldn't do any of them with me."
"If I remember we had our own programs that no one knew about," B'Elanna smiled. Tom returned her smile. "So, what are you doing?"
"I was thinking about writing them and putting them out there for the public," Tom sounded like a happy child. "I was thinking I would do something with Captain Proton."
B'Elanna knew that he wasn't happy at Starfleet right now. He was teaching piloting, but his heart wasn't in it. She wanted him to be happy about his work. "I don't see that being a problem."
"I'll stay at Starfleet until it gets off the ground," Tom said.
"No," B'Elanna said. "If you are going to do this then you are going to do this. We can make it work here."
Tom nodded. "And once we have the holodeck, I can make programs just for us." He leaned over their son and kissed her.
"You better," B'Elanna handed Xavier in his arms. Tom took their son and hoped that he would sleep in the bassinet so Tom and B'Elanna could get some sleep. Tom quietly got into the bed next to his wife. "Why were you so nervous about me telling me?"
"I don't know. You were never a fan of my programs on Voyager," Tom wrapped his arms around her.
"I might not have been fan, but I supported you in them," B'Elanna turned to face him.
"True."
"I know that you haven't been happy at Starfleet since we got back from the Delta Quadrant," B'Elanna placed her head on his shoulder.
"Yeah, I didn't like being away from you or Miral," Tom looked across the dark room.
"So, go for it because I think you are going to be famous," B'Elanna closed her eyes. She was still tired from having a baby and bring said baby home from the hospital.
Tom nodded and kissed B'Elanna on the head. He had his wife believe in him and that is all he needed. He closed his eyes and fell asleep with a smile on his face.
