The entire time in class, Keigo Asano and Mizurio Kojima, two of Ichigo's closest classmates, kept trying to harass him. Silas had honestly forgotten their names, ignoring their consistent pleas to be noticed. By the time lunch started, he gave them the cold shoulder and ignored anyone who dared approach him. The two were so confused, never having seen the real Ichigo be this despondent before.
The only thing interesting that Silas discovered was that he was able to read Japanese kanji despite never having studied the language.
During lunch, Silas immediately used that opportunity to go to the one place that could help fuel his ambition: Urahara's Shop. The owner of this small convenience store, Kisuke Urahara, is also a Soul Reaper. He used to be a captain, a high-ranking Soul Reaper in the Soul Society. But after Aizen methodically framed him, he was forced to leave the Soul Society and take up residency in the world of the living. What made Kisuke special was that he was once a scientist who had also created one part of the Hōgyoku. There was no question that he would be able to answer a lot of Silas's concerns.
But Silas was far from foolish. The last thing he was going to mention was that he was from another world. What he desired was to manifest his Soul Reaper powers.
It was a bold move to make, considering that Ichigo hadn't awakened his real powers until after he was defeated by Rukia's older brother. And before that, Rukia had lent him his powers, giving him a taste of what it meant to be a Soul Reaper. Silas, however, couldn't tell the exact date when Rukia would come. So he was going to try to make an early play.
It took some time to find the shop—hours, to be exact. Thankfully, the familiar areas he remembered allowed him to find its location. Rather than enter its vicinity, he left the area and returned home. Every action Silas took would matter if he desired his plans to unfold the way he needed them to.
After making it home, he was suddenly attacked by Isshin with a drop kick to the chest. Silas went crashing into the wall, choosing not to defend. When Isshin saw he was just lying there, he screamed in excitement, "Your old man's still got it in him!" But Silas hadn't responded. He kept his head lowered as blood dripped from his lips. "Ugh… You okay, Ichigo? I didn't mean to hit ya that hard."
"Yeah, I'm fine," Silas responded, getting up. He then threw his backpack over his shoulders and walked up the stairs, saying, "I'll be in my room."
Isshin, the boisterous character that he was, yelled that he would bring dinner up to him when it was ready. It was clear that he didn't want to make the atmosphere gloomy despite Silas acting indifferent. Whether Isshin would have called him out on it or not, it didn't stop Silas from walking into his room and locking the door behind him. The last thing he wanted was to get familiar with this strange family.
Instead, he lied down on his bed, remembering his own family from back home. There wasn't anything that could convince him that this place was better than earth. As he lied there to consider his next course of action, his stomach started to grumble. He hadn't eaten since he arrived in this world. Ignoring the hunger, he did the one thing he thought could work: he meditated.
Everything in this world revolves around one's spirit. What made people like Ichigo special was that he had a large amount of spiritual power. This was thanks to his father for being a Soul Reaper, his deceased mother for being a Quincy, and his Zanpakutō for being a Hollow.
Silas stood there, trying to harness whatever spiritual presence was in and around him. There was a reason that he had chosen not to eat anything at lunch. He was fasting. Fasting was considered a spiritual activity. When one fasted, their bodies worked twice as hard to breakdown whatever nutrients were stored inside it.
What was even better was what this world's rules dictated: when a being's soul was in peril or faced near-death experiences, it grew stronger!
Half an hour passed with him in that still position, allowing him to focus better. By the time he felt something like flowing water around, he opened his eyes and saw something magnificent. Particles of light were falling all around him. He knew that he was locked in a confined space, but he could see those particles even outside. What he was witnessing was the spirit particles known as "reishi". They were white in colour with a blue luminosity around them. Some were more abundant in areas, like downstairs, and some were faint, like in his neighbours house.
A sudden knock on his door ruined his concentration, returning his vision to normal. When he looked at the time, an hour had already gone by. He was so entranced by what he was seeing earlier that he had lost track of time.
Getting up, he slowly creaked open the door to see Ichigo's younger sister, Yuzu Kurosaki. "Big brother, dad told me you weren't feeling well, so I brought you your dinner."
Silas opened the door just enough to grab the bowl. It was hot, so he went inside to set it down on the table. Yuzu entered in, wondering if he was alright in a soft-spoken tone. This made him furrow his brows and tell her to get out. His harsh attitude caused her to become sad and heartbroken at how meanly she was treated.
But why would Silas care about her feelings? There was no desire for him to be so friendly toward her or her fraternal twin sister, Karin.
This family would be attacked one day by a Hollow, prompting Ichigo to save them. A Hollow is a corrupt Soul. Like all Souls, they either go to the Soul Society or hell. However, Souls that do not crossover to the Soul Society and stay in the world of the living for too long become a Hollow, devilish-looking creatures with deformed bodies and white masks. This mask protects the naked instincts that is left in a being after the loss of its heart. It also obscures the original identity of said Hollow. Their masks differ greatly in shape and form but are always white and skull-like. Some Hollows, like Orihime's brother, Sora Inoue, can look like grotesque snakes or lizard-like praying mantises'.
The only thing noteworthy about Hollows that intrigued Silas was that there was one inside Ichigo, who was also his Zanpakutō. And that's the power Silas had plans to acquire.
