About this time, Ichigo was on his way to save Rukia again, disregarding Yoruichi's warning. However, Silas couldn't do that, even if he wanted. It had been too long since he'd heard from Uryū.
Yoruichi had returned with medicine to help mend Silas's ruptured organs. While she was out, she overheard many lower-ranked Soul Reapers discussing how an all-out war was issued against them. Things were happening a lot quicker than expected, so Silas informed the cat he would be going out to look for Uryū.
"I'm not going to let you go out on your own this time," Yoruichi confessed. "The situation's become too dangerous to be left alone."
Silas permitted this, knowing that she wouldn't take no for an answer. Choosing to go back to Rukia's location would have proven to be idiotic anyway.
Rumours were speculating that a Quincy was lurking about in squad six's district. Squad six was led by Byakuya. There was no doubt in Silas's heart that he himself could take on that captain, so he prepared himself accordingly and departed for that area.
Whilst traveling on the surface, Yoruichi and him looked for an entrance to the underground passageway. They both concealed their spiritual pressures so as not to be sensed by unwanted enemies.
"I'm impressed that you used the tunnels effectively," Yoruichi praised. "How did you know about them?"
"That's not something to be concerned about right now," Silas responded with uninterest.
"Keep that up and I'll start thinking you're the enemy." There was an awkward silence between the two. Yoruichi laughed, saying she was kidding. "Come on, Ichigo. Would it kill you to smile once at my jokes?" The cat looked at him, only to see that his brows were furrowed. "What's wrong…?"
Silas turned around and looked up. When Yoruichi did the same, her eyes widened. Two silhouettes were atop a high building, watching them. One looked quite large, and the other had long hair. Their captain's uniforms flapped against the wind. "Seems like we've found them," the larger captain announced, removing a pair of goggles from his face. Both captains then performed the flash step, disappearing.
"Ichigo, look out!" Yoruichi screamed. A blade was only inches away from taking his head off had he not dodged in time. Silas kept some distance, calmly looking at his two adversaries. They were the last captains he had expected to confront: Kaname Tōsen, his blind eyes sightless yet vigilant, and Sajin Komamura, looking colossal with his komuso hat.
"You've caused enough injustice within the Seireitei," Kaname's voice rumbled.
"He's right," growled the wolf. "This ends now."
All Silas could think about was how the two managed to find him. Then it dawned on him. Before Sajin descended, he didn't have his armoured hat on; he was wearing goggles. Those goggles looked the same as the ones Gin wore when they first met. They could track undetectable spiritual pressure.
During Ichigo's fight in the story, he destroyed them. But since Silas relinquished Rukia without a fight, Aizen, who was the goggle's owner, decided to keep them.
"Hmph," Silas scoffed. A chilling sound scraped against the silence. "End? Your precious Seireitei is consumed by its own rot, crumbling under the weight of its lies." Silas understood the situation far too well, knowing that Aizen was watching. "I came here for a purpose… And I'm not leaving until that purpose's been fulfilled."
Kaname's blade sang as he drew it, sunlight flashing off the polished steel. "We won't let you interfere with Rukia Kuchiki's execution." Yoruichi tried to whisper to Silas that they needed to run. Yet Silas was not going to back down so lightly.
'This is what Aizen wants,' he thought to himself. Only someone as meticulous as him would orchestrate this battle. All Silas could do now was consider why these opponents were chosen.
Kaname worked for Aizen, so he would likely try to push Silas into showing his true strength. As for Sajin, he's just a pawn in the game, being manipulated for gain. Silas knew everything about how these two fought. From their Zanpakutō's Shikai and Bankai to their strengths and weaknesses, there was nothing they could do that could surprise him.
Sajin was shown to have been a very strong captain due to his Zanpakutō's abilities. Named Tenken, it creates various large body parts from an armoured giant to copy whatever body part Sajin moves. For example, if Sajin swung his sword, a gigantic disembodied arm wielding a sword would appear and mimic that same movement. His Bankai, Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō, summons that giant's entire armoured body while still retaining the mimicking trait.
Kaname was even more dangerous than Sajin. Despite his blind impairment and distaste for violence, he's a well-crafted swordsman with remarkable speed. His Zanpakutō, Suzumushi, had two abilities. The first could overload the hearing of anyone in range, knocking them unconscious. The second turned its blade into hundreds of different blades to rain down on his targets. As for its Bankai, it shrouds any and all targets in the vicinity within a large, dark dome that nullifies the five senses except for touch.
The sword was given to him after attending the funeral of his late friend in the past, someone whom Tokinada was responsible for the death of. If Silas remembered correctly, Kaname would undergo Hollowfication after leaving the Soul Society.
"Please," Silas said, slowly unsheathing Zangetsu. "Do your best to entertain me."
"Entertain?!" Sajin growled. "Lives are being lost because of your impudence."
"Is that your sense of justice?" Silas retorted. The question might have seemed harmless, but it managed to phase through the wolf's heart. Sajin truly was like a dog, having the utmost loyalty to Genryūsai, desiring to serve and obey the law for the sake of authority. "You cowl behind a nobility system where selective entitlement enforces the law. How can you call that fairness?"
Those words stung deeply, almost angering the wolf. Kaname placed his sword in front of his partner, saying, "Don't let him get to you, Sajin. We will handle this plague once and for all."
