'How... How did everything went to shit so quickly?!'
Those were the thoughts running through Felix's head as he landed his pelican in the communications tower of Chorus.
After his journey back to Remnant, everything actually seemed to be looking up for them. They had the location of one of the Keyswords and with it they could activate a doomsday device that will put an end to this war, and give him his paycheck!
And although that buffoon, Doyle, got the key before them, when he decided to be a fucking hero and blow the capital to hell, along with half of Felix's and Locus' troops, the control of the key went to them.
And then the Reds and Blues got on their way... Again!
Carolina and Washington stopped them from getting to the doomsday device. They fought them off, while Tucker and his stupid friends attacked their bases. And then used thier own tractor beam to drag down the ship of Tartarus on the tower of death!
They lost their army, their base, and now their only way of winning this war!
He won't let this stand!
He threw Locus out of the ship, the imbecile resting against the wall, fucking drama queen, and started gathering his weapons. Tucker wanted to be a hero?! Then he'll die like a fucking hero!
"Wake up!" He told Locus while handing him his SMG. "I told you we'd make it!."
Locus grunted, but didn't stood up. "Felix... It's over."
"Run your camp, and stick to the shadows. I'll draw them out," He ordered while activating his sword.
He knew their mission was over. But not to him, not to them! They were the best, they were Locus and Felix, partners in crime! Nothing was going to stop them. Not Hargrove, not Kimball, and definitely not Tucker.
"The Tartarus is destroyed," Locus, oh so helpfully reminded him. "Our numbers are falling. The mission..."
Mission?!
"Fuck the missions!" He snapped at him. "Jesus Christ, for once in your life would you forget about following goddamned orders?"
He knew the guy was fucked up, but seriously?! Now of all times?! After their first actual defeat in God knows how long?! Can't he- Can't he just try and stick to his side?!
"I'm not doing this for Hargrove. I'm doing this for me." He said, turning around. "Once those imbeciles are dead, we have a new job waiting remember?! And I won't go in to that bitch on fire, without a perfect streak."
And with that, he walked away. Waiting for his partner to recover and join him.
As he walked, he continued to fum over all that's happened. Why won't those idiots die?! This mission was supposed to be a simple one, one where they would kill everyone and get their reward, like usual!
At first, he thought this was all the Freelancer's fault. It had to be, they were the only competent soldiers amongst them. And yet they barely had any hand on the times they've been outsmarted.
Tucker believed he was hot shit? Well he isn't! He is weak, while he was strong. He survived the great war while Tucker was out there, probably masturbating on a rock!
He had aura, which allowed him to survive the toughest of battles, he had skills with his knives that had no comparison, and he had a partner that would stick to his side through everything that happened to them. Unlike before...
He wasn't going to lose. He wasn't weak. He wasn't Jaune, he was Felix! And he will destroy the Reds and Blues!
And they were here, because of course they would be on his way! He saw them on the pelican, and he knew this was going to be their next course of action. To transmit the message to fuck Hargrove over, and let Chorus receive the help it needed.
He gripped the handle of the sword. After so many years he was wielding something resembling a sword again, and he was going to use those skills Jaune could only dream to achieve to prove once and for all his own strength!
"Tucker!" He called out, his teeth grinding together. "Where are you?!"
This ends now!
Locus never felt so weak in his life. Not even when he was battling on the great war. Agent Washington and Agent Carolina had outsmarted them, along with the simulator troopers. But he had to keep going... He had to finish the mission.
'Fuck the mission!'
His partner's words rang through his ears. Felix...
He has known that man for almost twenty years and he was never able to completely figure him out. When he met him he was... Different. He wasn't the complete loudmouth he was now, but rather someone too eager to prove himself.
Like the incident with the alien...
Felix wanted to kill that creature not out of pleasure like he would do now, but because that was his duty. He could respect that. But then the war was over... And they couldn't move on after that.
Locus is a soldier, nothing more than a suit of armor that when order something he has to carry through it. That's why he adopted the name of his helmet, that's who he was...
And yet he never felt any sort of fulfilment.
He was supposed to be a soldier, to fulfill a mission and be done with it. And yet he never found any pleasure in what he did, unlike Felix who seemed to carry everything with a sadistic glee.
That's why Agent Washington intrigued him so much. Why did a soldier of such calibre abandoned his position to join the Reds and Blues? And why did he seemed pleased with it? It didn't make sense to him.
What makes Locus so different from him? From Felix? Who even was Felix? He never talked about his homeworld, and now he knows he comes from some kind of fantasy kingdom with powers, weapons that change between melee and long range, and people with animal features.
Who was he... What is Felix?
He collapsed on the floor with a grunt. Not even sure if he should go through. The mission was over, and if — When Felix dies at the hands of the simulator troopers, Hargrove will be exposed along with them. So what should he do know?
He turned his body around, staring into the ceiling. Then he heard something appear in front of him.
"Why have you come here, meddler?" The holographic, alien AI of the temples asked him.
"To kill the similar troopers," He responds, his voice hollow.
"Will this secure victory over their forces?" The AI asked.
"...No."
"Then what purpose will it serve?"
"I don't know."
"Then why are you trying?"
"I don't know."
"What do you know?"
"I DON'T KNOW!" He didn't. Why continue fighting when after this everything will be over? With him and Felix exposed, they'll be labelled criminals by the UNSC and their services will be over.
The AI observed him with patience, before asking his final question: "Then WHAT do you want to know?"
Locus took a deep breath. What did he wanted to know? How to defeat the simulation troopers? How to win the war? How to obtain the reward and become the ultimate weapon?
No... He knew what he wanted to know.
"I... I want to know... What Felix is afraid of," What had his partner seen when they took the test of the true warrior.
"Your partner isn't who he thinks," The AI answered. "Another person, with a different mindset lays within him. However, the war forced him to change, to adapt, to leave that person behind. The person he was before was already unstable, and the war only served to damage him further. And like him, you were broken by war, and it was his goal to see that you never healed. Because despite what he may claim, only one of you needs the other to survive."
Another person? Never heal? What was it talking about?
"What are you saying?"
"Ignorant creature," The AI said in disappointment. "Your partner is afraid of two things: Of you, and his past."
"... Tell me about Felix's past..." Felix didn't wanted him to heal for a reason. He needed him to survive. But why? Who could have Felix been to want someone to stay at his side so desperately?
"... His name is Jaune Arc," The AI responded. "He comes from the world of Remnant, the town of Ansel. Grew up as the middle son of the Arc household with Seven sisters, and his two parents. He wished to be a hero, to help others."
Felix... A hero? Help others? How... How could someone like that end up like the... The... The monster he is now?
"Remnant is under the constant threat of the creatures of the Grimm," The AI informed him. "Soulless monsters that only wish to eradicate humankind. To defend themselves, the people of that world possess warriors known as Huntsman to fend off the Grimm. That's what your partner aspired to be. But due to lacking former training, he faked his transcripts and entered the Huntsman academy of Beacon."
The more he heard, the less sense it made to him. How could Felix, Jaune, or whatever his name was at this point turn from a kid wanting to help others to who he is now? And why drag him down with him?!
"But a group of students that constantly antagonized him exposed him," The red AI continued. "He was expelled, and only one of his friends stood to him until the end. The others seemed to have left him, disappointed on his actions of faking his way into the school. And during his transportation outside of school, he found his way to a temple left by my creators. And..."
"...And?" Locus inquired.
"All I have told you is part of your partners memories," The red AI explained. "There are gaps between the time where he arrived to the colonized territory of the UNSC, and his time during the great war... Repressed memories."
Damnit. Even now Felix proved to elude him. But now... Now he didn't know what to think.
"Why is Felix afraid of his past?" He asked as he got up.
"Jaune Arc lacks all the abilities your partner currently possess. He sees his past self as weak, pathetic, worthless. To be confronted by his past, is to accept he is still Jaune Arc deep down."
To accept that he is still weak. That's why he wanted Locus to his side and in this state. To reassure himself that he was still strong. That's why he never allowed him to leave his side?!
Damn him!
"You're not entirely correct," The AI somehow seemed to know what he was thinking, as it spoke. "While he did wanted to keep you weak, that's not the only reason why he did it."
"What other reason could he have?" Locus asked, as he finale got up and readied his gun.
"Your partner was left by his team on Remnant. And then he found a companion in you. He doesn't want the same to happen again, because despite of what you might think... Your partner genuinely appreciates your company."
The words hit Locus like a sledgehammer. Felix, the guy that constantly goes against his wishes during missions, and that has left him mentally crippled for years, appreciates him?!
That was wrong. Everything about Felix was wrong. Their relationship was so poisonous it was a surprise they were alive.
"So what will you do now, meddler?" The AI asked. "Will you put an end to your partner? Even if it means ending the life of who he was before?"
Before...?
"You mean Jaune Arc?" Locus asked. "Whoever that person was, it's gone."
"No. Your partner might want to bury him, but in the end, Jaune Arc is still there," The AI said. "The question now is... What are you going to do now?"
Locus looked down while gripping his weapon. What now? A part of him, a really big part of him, wanted to finish Felix off for keeping him as nothing but a shell of a man. For not allowing him to fix himself... For turning him into a monster. All because he didn't wanted to be alone, and to reassure his authority.
But in the end... Felix was just another broken man. If the AI is right, then Felix is nothing but the shell of Jaune Arc.
After this... After realizing what he has done to him, he wanted to fix things. To right all the wrongs he's done. But that task will be almost impossible with the UNSC hunting him after the Reds and Blues finish their mission.
But in a world without the UNSC...
Locus looked at the direction where Felix ran off. His eyes hardening. "Felix fears me and his past..." He muttered.
Locus has already made peace with his fears. To know that his ideology has caused nothing but destruction. And this will allow him to heal.
Maybe it's time that Felix does the same.
"You think you're smart, Tucker?" Felix asked, as he searched for the aqua soldier. "You think you're all better than me?" He received no answer, which infuriates him even more. "Well, you're not! You're all a bunch of pathetic... Stupid losers!"
Just like Arc... And he was dead! Anyone who's weaker than him and stands in his way will die!
"Then come get me."
Felix swirled around to see Tucker standing there. His sword drawn.
He didn't wasted a second and charged at the soldier. Their swords clashed against one another, Felix acted fast and kicked Tucker on the stomach. The man fell on his back and Felix raised his sword to stab him.
"ENGAGING."
The mechanical voice caused Felix to turn around. Caboose, the blue imbecile, and his talking gun appeared from behind a pillar and opened fire at him.
Felix brought up his shield and blocked the bullets. When they stopped he deactivated it and pointed his sticky detonator at him, only for a blast to knock it out of his hands. "What?"
He turned to see the spanish robot and the pink guy standing behind Tucker. "Double-O Donut always gets his man!" The pink one cheered.
Felix brought up his shield again. "Locus, I need some-Ahh!" He was cut off, by darts impacting on his shoulder. Alien weapons!
"Over here, dirtbag!" He turned to sew the brown one, the fatass, and the sargent aiming at him.
"You give orange dudes a bad name!" The fatass said.
Felix ripped the darts from his shoulder and turned tail to get away from this idiots and regroup with Locus. Together they can beat them!
He looked back at the imbeciles with a sneer. "Pissing me off!" He didn't saw the rocket launcher slam on his face until it was too late. "Augh!"
He landed on his back, dizzy from the sudden impact. A figure loomed over him and Felix looked up to see a purple one he... Honestly forgot even existed.
"Oh please," The man said with a tone so full of evil that Felix actually felt nervous. "I'm the original bad boy," He said with an evil chuckle, while aiming his weapon at him.
Felix feared no man... But this thing? It scares him. He let out a whimper and brought his hands up hoping it would magically protect him.
The man fired and Felix was sent soaring through the air. "Ahhhhhh!" He landed with a grunt, close to one of the idiots.
"Hey! Felix!" Caboose greeted him happily. Always oblivious to what's happening.
Felix took his chance. He was going to finally take one of them out! He chuckled and grabbed Caboose's leg, causing him to lose his balance and fall down, while losing the grip on his gun and causing it to be on the air for a few moments before Felix grabs it after getting up.
"Caboose!" He can hear Tucker and the Epsilon AI calling out for the idiot. How cute.
Felix activates his shield to block any interference while also aiming his gun at the retarded member of the blue team. "Say goodbye to your stupid blue moron!" He aims his gun at him...
... And the only thing to come out is confetti and a fun party sound.
Felix looked at the pistol in horror. Just... Just... What the fuck?! "What is wrong with you people?!"
"HANDS. OFF!" The pistol suddenly came to life and slammed itself on Felix's head. Knocking him down.
Caboose got up and grabbed his pistol back. "Bye! Felix!" He said, before jogging off to join his teammates.
"Yeah, we might be losers, Felix," Epsilon said as Caboose rejoined them. "But we still kicked your ass."
Felix looked around. The sargent and his two privates blocked his right. Pinky, spanish and... The bad boy blocked his left. While Tucker, Caboose and Epsilon blocked his front. He was surrounded.
He gritted his teeth as he realized the humiliating defeated he just suffered at the hands of this... NOBODIES! THEY WERE FUCKING SIMULATION TROOPERS! HOW DID THEY BEAT HIM?!
Before his anger could escalate more. His motion trackers detected someone else arriving. A smile came to his lips. 'About time, partner.' He started chuckling before blowing up into a maniatic laughter. "Hahahahaha! Think again!"
Locus could kill them all, now that Carolina and Wash weren't here to save them! Finally they won't get rid of this idiots once and for all!
But then... His trackers showed that Locus walked until he stood in front of him. And then he dropped the camo.
"Oh shit!"
"Look out!"
"Freeze!"
Felix looked up at his partner, who stared down at him without even offering a hand to help. "L-Locus, what are you doing you were supposed to kill them!"
"... No."
"What?" Tucker, Sarge and Felix gave the same reply at Locus' words.
"No more killing," Locus said, and Felix had the feeling he was glaring a hole into his head, behind the helmet.
"What are you talking about?" Felix asked. Locus... Was he betraying him? No. No this couldn't be happening. "You're a soldier, remember?"
"I'm not a soldier," Locus said. And then, to Felix surprise he grabbed him by the neck and lift him back to his feet. He brought his face closer to his. "I'm a monster. Like you."
The sheer venom behind his words caused Felix's blood to freeze. He grabbed the hand that was holding him and tried to reason with him. "Locus, we're partners... Survivors." This couldn't be happening. "We need each other. W-what about our orders? Our reward? Becoming the ultimate weapon?"
He didn't cared about the orders, or the reward. He just needed his partner to remember that he needed him to survive. T-that Locus had to remain at his side so they could continue on missions! Because Locus needed to stay at his side! Right?!
R-right?
The air got cut off Felix's throat as Locus' grip tightened. The Reds and Blues frozen as they saw their spectacle. "I'm not doing this for the reward," He start walking forward, forcing Felix to backpedal. Slowly getting closer to the edge of the tower. "I'm not doing this because somebody told me to. I'm doing this... For me."
Locus raised his other hand, to revealed he was holding a grenade.
Felix's blood ran cold.
"Huh? Hey, you fuck, that's my grenade!" Tucker demanded. Locus must've taken it while he was using his active camouflage.
Locus took another step closer to the edge, while removing the pin on the grenade with his thumb. Holding the lock to ensure it won't detonate immediately.
"W-Wait!" In his panic, Felix didn't thought of bringing out his sword to cut Locus' arm or try to find a way to free himself. All that ran through his mind were two facts:
He was going to die. And his partner had just betrayed him.
Locus took another step and the two of them fell down the edge and into the abyss below.
"AHHHHHHHHHhhhhhh!" His scream became distant for the Reds and Blues.
The Blood Gulch crew observed the empty spot their enemies left after Locus decided to not only commit suicide, but to take Felix down with him as well, all in complete and utter silence.
"Holy shit..." Grif mumbled. "That was way better than incineration!" He cheered.
"Did we do it?" Tucker asked. "I mean are they... Gone?"
An explosion soon came from the abyss, no doubt caused by the grenade Locus has been holding.
"I think that's a yes," Grif says. "And if we see another mercenary, it will be way too soon."
"Amen," Simmons nods in full agreement.
"How about we send that message?" Sarge suggest, holstering his shotgun.
Tucker flickers his sword on and walks to the activation pannel of the tower, along with Epsilon. Tucker sweeps his sword on it and turns to Church. "The floor is yours buddy."
"Right," Church nods. He clears his throat, despite not needing it. "Hi there, you might not know me, but my name is Epsilon."
Felix couldn't believe what was happening, both him and Locus were falling to their inevitable death. All because Locus had decided to betray him, to turn his back on everything they worked towards!
Then it happened. Locus threw his grenade to the side while they fell and it exploded on the mid-air.
The silent mercenary took out a grappling hook and aimed at the walls on the tower before firing. The hook dug itself on the side of the tower and pulled the two towards it.
Locus planted his boots on the wall and activated their gravitational function to leave him stuck in it, while keeping Felix dangling on the abyss.
"L-Locus!" Felix exclaimed. "What the fuck!?"
"Silence," Locus ordered. "Or else..." He started to loose his grip on him.
Felix held to his hand for dear life. Shaking on his boot as he knew his life was completely on Locus' hands.
"Good," Locus nodded. "Now, let me just explain this to you, Felix: I am done."
"W-what?"
"I know what you've done, Felix," Locus said. "What you've done to me," He growled.
What he's done to- What?! Felix looked up and tried to understand what Locus meant. "I-I don't know what you're talking about, Locus!"
Locus laughed mirthlessly. "So you're saying you didn't avoided me getting help?!" He growled. "The war... What I lived there... It destroyed me. What our commander officer said, it shook me. And you... You didn't allowed me to recover!"
"You didn't needed that!" Felix said, gritting his teeth and gripping his teeth around Locus' hand. "You knew what it meant to be a soldier! Why go back to a meaningless life? Why throw all of that away?!"
"Because being a weapon it's not the same as being a soldier!" Locus' barked, loosing his grip a bit. And causing Felix to slip a bit. "Because I am more than just the armor I use. And because it wasn't your choice to make..."
"L-Locus. We- We needed to stick together," Felix tried to defend his case. Which was hard considering his case, where he was literally dangling over the edge. "To look after each other backs... R-Remeber Lozano? We went through it together!"
"I wouldn't have gotten involved in that if it wasn't for you..." Locus growled. "... Felix... Do you know the reason why you aren't death?"
Felix didn't responded. What was he supposed to say?
"You aren't death, because I know what you are Felix... You're broken just like me," Locus said.
"I. Am. Not!" He gritted out.
"Yes you are... Jaune."
Felix head shot open and he looked up at his former partner with rage behind his helmet. "What did you just called me?!"
"I know, Felix," Locus said. "I know who you were, and why did you ended up like this. And for that... I can somehow sympathize."
"Sympathize?! With what?! Jaune Arc is fucking death!" Felix barked. "I am me! Felix!"
Locus let out a disappointed sigh. "Fine, that's of no importance to me," He said. "But listen well, Felix. We both know I can let you go right now and let you die. But for the sake of... Whatever partnership we had before... I have a deal."
"... What is it?" Felix spat, with poison on his voice. "It's not like I have a choice."
"I want to start to make things right," Locus said. "But not behind a cell. The UNSC will look for us, and while I doubt they can find me, I prefer to start on a place where they will never reach me."
"... You mean..." Felix's eyes widened. "Remnant."
"Yes," Locus confirmed. "That woman... Her plans are no good. And if we appear again, she'll look for our services, because of you. And I'm counting on that."
"You're planning on sabotaging her from within?" Felix mumbled. "... Let's say I accept, just to get my ass out of this situation. What makes you think I won't betray you afterwards... Like you just did?!"
"I've known you for years, Felix," Locus said. "For all your acting skills, I can tell when you're lying. If I have the slightest suspicion you're planning on stabbing me on the back, I will end you. Are we clear?"
"... Crystal," Felix growled. He sighed in exasperation, knowing he was trapped between a rock and a hard place. "Now, smartass. How are we getting out of this? The simulation troopers are still up there."
Locus then gestured with his head to the left. Felix turned to see their busted Pelican flying away. "Where are those idiots going now?!"
"I think the Chairman has arrived to deal with the colonists by himself... That should give us an opening to go to the jungle temple unnoticed," Locus explains.
"Fine," Felix huffs. Knowing that he didn't have much of a choice. Locus now has the control in this. The bastard. 'If you think I'll stand for this, Locus, you have another thing coming. First chance I have, I'll slit your throat open!' He growled inwardly.
Locus dug out the hook that was nailed on the wall and pointed it upwards. He fired and the cable latched itself to the same floor where they jumped from. They were hauled upwards and Locus summoned all his strength to launch Felix back to the tower and them climb up himself.
The two stood up and observed as Charon's industries ship hovered over the planet. The Chairman no doubt brought more soldiers with him to deal with the colonists and their heroes. If the Reds and Blues survive, it would be due to a miracle.
"Walk," Locus ordered, while activating his Active Camouflage.
Felix grumbled. "Yes, sir," He said on a mocking tone. Clearly unhappy about his new circumstances.
A part of him wanted to make a run for it and wait for Tucker and his friends to come back down so he can kill them himself, and then plan something to kill Locus. But Tucker was probably getting his body filled with bullets by Charon's personnel, and Locus had his stupid camouflage to attack him from anywhere, even with his motion trackers he would be hard to kill.
And even if he manages to succeed... What then? He would become as wanted as the Director of Project Freelancer, and only low-life criminals will look for his services. And without Locus... Fuck, even if he was a treacherous shit he was still a part of why his plans worked so well.
Fuck.
Just... Fuck.
Both Locus and him arrived to the teleporter that would take them back to their former base. Now that they didn't had a Pelican —Fuck you, Tucker!— they needed to use this, even though the Colonists, not to mention Wash and Carolina will be there. Luckily, they were masters at sneaking.
Well, Locus is, but the point stands.
Felix gave a sigh. "Let's just get this over with," He grumbled.
As always, teleporting was... Interesting.
Locus and Felix stood on the hallway containing the telporter connecting with the communications tower. It was clear, no colonists on sight, or any of the former Freelancer agents.
Locus moved ahead, taking advantage of his camouflaged and moved amongst the celebrating colonists across the hallways of their former base, completely unnoticed. He walked out of the building and looked around to find the most suitable pelican.
"What's taking so long?" He turned to see that Felix had followed him and knocked out some of the colonists that came across his way. "They're lucky I now have to be a goody—two shoes, with you around."
"Quiet," Locus hissed at him and slowly unveiled his camo to point to an unguarded Pelican. "There." The orange mercenary shrugged and they both make their way to it.
As they climbed in, Felix scoffed. "This guys are still idiots, leaving something like this without anyone to keep an eye on."
"And they still outsmarted us," Locus reminded him.
That shut him off, and Locus knew he was glaring at him behind the helmet.
It's not like Locus took pride on the fact that they've been defeated. It was a good thing, yes, but not one it makes him proud off. But if it helps shutting Felix up, then he will take it.
He initiated the vehicle and they took off flying, completely unnoticed under the celebration the colonists were having.
One of them however did see them. "Ummm... Guys?" A soldier of the new republican said. "Guys?"
"YEAH! THOSE MANTIS ARE DOWN!" His friends and Federals cheered.
"I think someone's taking one of our Pelicans..."
"THOSE BASTARDS ARE TOTALLY DEAD! YEAH!"
"And those are expensive..."
"MASSIVE ORGY FOR EVERYONE!"
That scream stopped any celebration and they all looked at the federal soldier that said that. "... What?"
"... You know?" A new republic soldier said. "I think there's a tower for that."
"YEAH!"
The soldier that witnessed the theft could only sigh.
Felix glared at the beam of light as if it was mocking him.
Twenty years and now he was going back to Jaune's homeworld, as someone else's bitch. Joy...
"What do you have?" Locus asked, looking at his inventory.
"We don't have anything, dumbass," Felix snapped. "We cleared this place when we left! I only have some magnums I took from those Colonists I knocked out. Not like they'll be of much help anyway..."
This kind of bullets will be useless to them on Remnants. They'll need Dust-based weaponry, and even some weapons that shift. Do they have an actual name? Felix didn't remembered, and didn't care.
"We'll take what we can get," Locus said, walkie closer to the beam. "And remember what the goal is."
"Yeah, yeah, sabotaging, this won't be my first rodeo," Felix grumbled.
"And if you step out of line-"
"You'll kill me!" Felix snapped. "I fucking. Know. Locus. It's the only reason I agree to this shit! That and avoiding jail!"
"As long as we're clear," Locus said.
Was he... Was Locus being smug?! Fuck him! Being smug was Felix's thing! The nerve!
Bottling all of the anger in a part of his mind labelled as: 'Reasons to kill Locus' on his sleep,' Felix gave another rueful sigh and took a step forward. "Let's just go."
Locus didn't said anything, he just followed him through the portal.
Felix could only take one silver lining in all of this: Going back to Remnant, and working for that fire lady, means that he will probably stay away from Beacon. And therefore, he will stay away from his past.
The least he has to be reminder of Jaune Arc, the better.
"Emerald," The half-maiden called for her loyal servant as she looked at some interesting news Leonard, headmaster of Heaven Academy of Mistral, has sent here. "Come here for a moment."
The mint-haired girl make her way to up to the catwalk, where her mistress was observing the grunts of the White Fang put away crates full of Dust. "What is it, Cinder?"
"Leonardo has just informed of something from Beacon," She explained. "Apparently, they've been short one student from some weeks now. A fool, who cheated his way in."
"Ummm, yes?" Emerald tilted her head, trying to understand where she was going with this.
"This can play in our favor, Emerald," Cinder told her. As if talking to a little kid. "Now, we have the chance of putting someone amongst our ranks in the school to keep an eye on Ozpin. But sadly, Leonard has already send our transcripts as students from Heaven so it can't be any of us." A devious smile came to her face. "But then I thought of two certain individuals that could be of use to fill that part."
Emerald's eyes widened. "Y-you mean... Those mercenaries?"
Cinder glared down with contempt at the grunts of the White Fang. "These mooks don't have the neurons to do something like this. Neopolitan is already registered as our fourth member. Roman is not only close to being thirty, but he is also too well known. And Adam will probably kill the Schnee heiress at the first chance... So that leaves us with one, or rather two choices."
"Ma'am, while I agree it is a good reasoning," Emerald said nervously. Not wanting to upset her mistress. "We don't have any assurance those two mercenary will appear again."
"True," Cinder conceded. "If they appear before the second semester of Beacon starts, when the teams of other academies start to arrive I mean, then they'll play their part. If they don't, then that's a shame, it's not like their presence is a game-changer."
Her left eye glowed with the power of the Fall Maiden.
"I just want to have more pieces at my disposal, that's all," She said, an ambitious smile on her face. She looked back at the name of the team Leonardo just sent. And who was in it, a certain redhead. "And to make sure they break the enemy's pieces for me."
Team JNPR, now known merely as NPR, might be getting a new member soon.
"Welp, now I think I'm starting to take a different approach from T.Kareon's fic."
"At least in his's, Locus and Felix became actual friends and not partners. Here, well... After so many years of being manipulated by Felix, Locus finally takes care of his life."
