"They were here," James says angrily. "Ozpin, they were here!" He slams his hand on Ozpin's deck as he failed to retrain his fury.
"We're very much aware of that!" Glynda responds with snark, clearly displeased with both this situation and James's behavior. "Thank you, James."
"Fantastic! You're aware! Now are we going to do something about it or should we just stay the course and continue to ignore what's right in front of us?!" He accentuates his words by pointing to the floor.
Ozpin just stares at his allies with his hands linked in front of him. She was becoming bolder; how could her agents slip under their radar? Were they infiltrated as students? If so from which Academy? With how furious James is he doubts they're from Atlas, and the description his guards gave them didn't help.
The guards who survived that is…
As for James's point… Well, maybe it has some merit. Inaction can only last for so long. She attacks their Maiden, and then snakes their way into his school?! No, he was not going to let her get away with this.
"This is a good time as any to say this," Ozpin said, drawing their attention. "Two nights ago, I received a call from a mysterious source that told me that the ones responsible for the chaos on the city will be in the southeast, on… Mountain Glenn."
Both Glynda and James stiffened. James specially looking wistful as he remembered what was supposed to be a bridged between the two Kingdoms, just as Argus was with Mistral. He might not have been general at the time, but the weight of that failure was one all the leaders of both Kingdoms carried with them.
"And this source, who is it?" James asked, showing his skepticism.
Ozpin closed his eyes, recalling their words. "According to them: 'someone who wants to do the right thing.' Maybe a White Fang member that has seen the wrong of their violent ways."
"Or one of her agents leading us to a trap," James cut in. As his 'General Gaze' as Ozpin liked to call it, became sharper. As long as Mettle didn't start clouding his judgement. "If that's the case then I'll mobilize my men, call Winter if necessary. We'll find out exactly what's going on, and eradicate any forces that stand in our way."
Glynda growls in frustration. "Why must your answer to everything involve a triumphant display of military bravado!? You treat every situation like it's a contest of measuring di…!"
"Glynda…" Ozpin gives her a leveled look. "Language."
She has the decency to blush before crossing her arms and grumbling, "well, he does."
"She is right, though, James," Ozpin turns his chair to Ironwood. "As much as I too would love to end this situation once and for all, we must remember that this may go beyond Vale. Beyond Beacon. And if this truly is part of some master plan for which we know not the final move, we mustn't be so bold. Nor can we risk the spread of panic."
The General is not pleased with his answer, his fists clenched and frown deepening. "I have served you faithfully for years... but if you mean to tell me that your plan is to really hold the defenses, and wait…!"
"It is not!" Ozpin lets his own temper flare. Even Glynda flinches and James is taken aback for a moment. With the focus back on him, he relays his plan and point of view to them. "You're a general, James. So, tell me, when you prepare to go to war, which do you send in first? The flag bearers, or the scouts?"
He taps into his desk and shows Team RWBY's profile. Glynda and James stare at him in disbelief. "Oz, those girls are not ready! Silver Eyed warrior or not!" Glynda protests.
"It's exactly because of their failure that they will be willing to agree to a mission such as this, and I have a man in mind to guide them in this field trip. A Huntsman to shadow them," he said, showing them another picture featuring one Nicholas Arc. "Nick has a relation to this case. The sword of one of these armored strangers that our students faced in the highway is none other than Crocea Moirs, which was last seen in the hands of his missing son."
"Those… People are responsible for Mister Arcs disappearance?" Glynda asked appalled. While she sided for his expulsion, it was mostly out of worry of whom was basically a civilian boy facing the dangers of a Huntsman's life. "But why?"
"Who knows?" Ozpin said with a sigh as he straightened his glassed. "But now we can count with Nicholas' help in this case. Even if him and I are not currently on the best terms."
"So you will send a group of disobedient Huntresses in training, and a man that clearly holds no loyalty to you or our cause anymore?" James summarized, his glare showing his opinion on the matter.
Ozpin met his glare. "Look at it this way, James. Any information they gain will be sent back to us, and we already have the advantage of knowing where they will be. If things get out of hand, then you can deploy your army. Experience for my students, a closure for Nicholas, and information and the possibility to stop the plans of the Queen."
Still in clear disagreement, James just grunted and turned to leave with Glynda following behind. Ozpin knew this wasn't a popular decision, but if he wanted another team like STRQ then he has to keep nurturing them since the start of this year and avoid any of them from becoming like the R of the team—Or the S for that matter…
Later that day, he received a call from Headmaster Lionheart, with a quite peculiar request for one of his exchanged students, one Felix Naran…
"W-What?" Pyrrha looked at Felix with sympathy, and Nora looked seconds away from giving him a hug.
Felix sighed as he rubbed his forehead. "My father had an accident on his job… Headmaster Lionheart talked to Ozpin in my behalf and gave me permission…" He gave them a troubled look as his eyes shook. "I'm… really sorry guys but I promise I'll be back for the Vytal Festival just not for… the practices…"
"Felix, it's okay, we get it," Ren said, giving him a reassuring smile. "Family is priority. And you will have three more chances of this in the future."
"Yeah!" Nora didn't waste any more time and tackled his midsection with a hug. "Don't worry big guy, we'll be fine! And we will bring you souvenirs!"
Felix chuckled and gave Nora a hug back. "Awww, thank you so much Nora."
Pyrrha walked to him and gave him a small smile. "I'm really sorry you have to go through this, Felix."
"Hey, it's not you guys' fault," he said, as Nora and him broke the hug. "It was an accident."
Ren cocked his head in thought. "What was the accident? If… you don't mind me asking."
"N-No, it's no an issue," Felix answered with a smile. "He works in a hardware shop. He was using a saw blade and… he almost cut his hand with it…" He trailed off, discomfort on his face.
"I'm sorry…" Pyrrha said again, rubbing his arm in comfort.
"Thank you," He smiled at her, and she felt a small hint of relief for that. "So, the sooner I go the better. Could you help me pack?"
Pyrrha nodded. "Of course, and if anything happens don't doubt to call us from there."
"Will do," Felix said as he moved to his bed. "I'll take the chance to visit my teammates as well. I don't want to take all of my stuff since I'll come back by the time the festival starts."
Pyrrha smiled. Even if this brought a sour memory to her mind. When they came back and Jaune had a duffel bag with all of his stuff, the news of his expulsion shocking them to the core. She shook her head and focused on the moment as she remembered what Felix told her in the dance. Live in the present and not be burdened by the past.
"Allow me," she said, walking next to him. "I'm sure back home you'll have your own clothes. But you're never sure."
"Yes mom…"
Pyrrha giggled at his tone. Sure, her team will be missing a spot again once Felix goes back to Mistral permanently, but for her, who once gave her the impression of being another fan that puts her on a pedestal, now became a real friend that helped her pull her head out from her depressing thoughts and gave her a good memory from the dance.
For the first time since their leader's disappearance, and their rift with team RWBY, Pyrrha felt things were really coming up their way.
With the members of Team NPR waving their goodbyes, Felix mounted the Bullhead that will take him back to 'Mistral.' He waved back as the hangar closed and when it did, he dropped the smile and rolled his eyes. "Done with the feely crap."
Now he had a real mission from Cinder. He would go to their current base of operations and cause a breach that would make Grimm invade the city. What was her endgame with that? He didn't know. Did he care? Nope a single bit. As long as he gets what's accorded to get out of the Academy, he will jump off a cliff if Cinder tells him so.
His Scroll buzzed and he snorted when he saw it was messages from Ruby.
"U leavin'?!"
"News fly quick, huh"
"Y didn't u tell me :("
"It was sudden. I'm sorry /3"
"Meany. Wat about ur sword-gun?"
"Got what we have with me. I'll finish it in Mistral."
And with that he means he'll give it to one of Cindy's goons.
"-3-"
"ur still a butt."
"har har. See who's a butt in the tournament."
"see ya there uwu"
Shaking his head, he stuffed his Scroll and walked towards the pilot cabin. Taking out one of his knives, just in case the one in the controls had the wrong idea of where to take him. 'Everything should have been set up by Cinder, but better to make sure…'
The door opened and he stalked towards the one sitting in the chair. "Hey, pal. Where is this ship going?"
Silence was the only response the pilot gave him and he growled. "Hey pal!" He grabbed the chair and turned it around. "I'm talking to you!"
The chair swiveled and the pilot was giving him a surprised look. Before putting his hands in the air in apparent fear at the weapon. Then 'he' grinned and 'his' appearance shattered in a show of glass, revealing a grinning Neo winking at him.
"Oh… Jackpot!" Felix said, putting his knife away. "Ice-Cream goddess, it's been a while!"
Neo smiled brightly and got up from her seat and to the co-pilot seat, while taking out a nail file, and taking off her gloves to start working on her nails.
"What? No kisses, no hugging?" Felix asked, before he felt the ship shook. "… Does this thing have auto-pilot?"
Neo looked up from her manicure, looked at the ground coming closer to them and shrugged her shoulders before returning to filing her nails.
"SHIT!" Felix sat on the pilot seat and pulled the controllers. Years of military aerial training better not fail him now!
He pressed some of the controller buttons and then pulled the lever to lift the Bullhead. Making them recover the lost altitude. Felix sighed in relief and turned to glare at her. "The fucking hell is wrong with you, woman?!"
To his surprise Neo stood up and walked up to him, putting her hands on her forehead and feigning fainting as she fell straight into his lap. Her Semblance flared to life as a sign with the words: 'MY HERO' written on them, before she, like a cat curled into his lap and decided to take a nap until they arrived to their destination.
Felix just stared blankly at her for a moment. "You are just one big tease, aren't you?" He let go of one of the controls and let his hand pet her hair, and since he didn't found resistance in her he continued. "You'll be in my bed before Cindy's mission is complete."
His only response was Neo's arms rubbing circles around his tight.
Mountain Glenn… Felix's memory of things in Remnant were just summarized in three things: Grimm, Faunus, Dust. Its history flew over his head, and even now that he was attended a classroom that taught all of that it all continued to bore him to death or of being of no importance. That was until Cinder told him about this place.
A tragedy, that's what this place was in a nutshell. And currently, it was a hellhole with Grimm crawling around. Grimm that proved to be nothing but fodder with him and his soon-to-be babe around, as one unfortunate Beowulf could attest as he buried his knife deep in its neck. "Jeesh, enemies of humanity my ass. These puppies wouldn't last against a Brute even if their lives depended on them."
From behind, Neo gave him a strange look and he shook his head. "Ignore me, just talking to myself. Seeing as you never say a word."
After landing the bullhead in the according place, and setting a bomb in it so it would just look like one of the many other ships set to try and recover this forgotten city, its two pilots started their trek to the meeting point of their operation.
Neo's look became flat at Felix's comment and she walked past him with a pout while bumping her shoulder with his. "Ouch. Did I touch a sour spot?"
She turned around and gave him the stinky eye and a middle finger, making him roll his eyes. "How mature Ice-Cream babe. By the way, at your—"
Before he could finish, Neo unsheathed a blade from her parasol. The Ursa slammed into her figure, only to burst into shards of crystals and then the real thing appeared from behind and split open the throat of the Grimm.
"Five…" Felix finished, watching as the creature vanished. "Damn. Remind me not to piss you… I already did, huh?" He asked when in front of her she vanished and he felt a sharp poke on his back.
He craned his neck to look at Neo smiling sweetly at him, before it turned into a scowl and nodded.
Felix huffed. "Okay, got it. Your muteness is a sore spot… because you are… right?" The tip of the blade pressed more into his back. "Cut it! I get it!"
She nodded in satisfaction and walked past him, with a noticeable lack of hip swaying that Felix just had the need to call out to. "Oh, come on! No more showing off?!"
In response she flipped him off.
Felix growled under his breath… Then he turned and shot a bullet between another Beowulf eyes. "Yeah, in this mood I'm gonna attract you guys a lot."
The two walked in silence. And even if Neo had a voice, Felix doubts she would actually turn to engage in a conversation with him after pushing the wrong buttons with her. "Okay, we're both Grimm magnets right now. So how about we… 'chat'?"
Again, she turned to give him the stinky eye. Then exhaled through her nose and formed a sign. "Don't point out my disability and we're good."
"Okay, even I can do that," He huffed. "So, tell me about yourself. How did a pretty girl like you turned to crime?"
"How did a handsome boy like you?" Her sign asked back.
"Dodging the question? Okay, fair enough," he said with a shrug. "Bills aren't paid by just breathing. And it just so happens that my bills include the payment of a few sport cars, and the electrical bill of a tv the size of a billboard."
She giggled and her sign read, "That'd be bad for your eyes."
"So I've been told," He thought as he remembered a certain blue-armored DUMBASS in all capitals. "Now it's your turn to answer."
She shrugged and her sign shifted. "The same. Except my bills includes a refrigerator the size of a ship full of all types of Ice-Cream, some nail polish, and anything that I want."
"Oh, girl after my own heart," he said, leaning down on her with a flirty look, but she pushed him back with a finger pressed against his forehead and shook his head giving him a blank look. "Okay, I get it. Still playing hard to get?" She dispelled her sign and nodded her head.
The two finally arrived to the entrance of a subway. The two climbed down the stairs, with Neo guiding him and using the flashlight of her scroll to light their way. Felix couldn't help his eyes from widening when they found themselves in what was basically a subterranean city, this guys sure used every inch of this city to make a living.
The further they went, the more worn down the buildings looked. Felix had no idea how long was this city abandoned, but it must have been at the very least a decade for all the damaged infrastructure. That or they were made hastily, maybe as a last ditch effort to keep the city surviving before being completely overrun by green.
Speaking of Grimm, it was weird that in such a place filled with darkness there was none to be found. Maybe the White Fang cleared the area, and if Felix was a realistic person, probably lost more than a few men in it.
They turned around a corner, and there it was. A railroad with its respective train, and various members of the White Fang using the Paladins to load in the bombs that would be used for the operation, and loading some other crates, filled with what he would guess were more explosives. One can never be without enough explosives in life.
Neo guided him towards a small table where Roman was smoking a cigarette as usual, and Locus—The absolute, treacherous, good for nothing, backstabbing, bastard!—standing by his side, with the suitcase containing Felix's armor strapped to his back.
"Welcome back, Neo!" He said, giving the girl a two-finger salute. Then his face soured when he saw Felix. "Kid…"
"Mascara-man," Felix returned the greeting in kind, aggravating Roman. Then he turned his eyes to his—former—partner. "Locus."
"Felix," Locus said, his tone as cold and robotic as Felix remembered. Unstrapping the suitcase and tossing it to him.
"Okay, you guys are pretty early. It's still morning and we're scheduled for this baby to move by tomorrow when the city will be at its most… 'vulnerable.'" Roman told them as he twirled his cane around.
"Vulnerable…" Felix muttered as he blinked. 'Because of the field trips, no students mean no back-up forces for the invasion.'
He felt eager to see what this so-called operation breach was going to cause. Chaos and death, sure, but he meant in the long-run. The end goal of this operation, why Cindy goes to this length to wreak havoc in the city. Sheer terrorism and the thrill for destruction? Or there was something she genuinely gained from using what was essentially mankind's predators.
He marched to one of the train's cabins and unlocked the suitcase to put on his armor. 'If the city is destroyed after this, I might want to go to Mistral after all. That money is not going to be spend in some ruins… But first…' He put on his helmet and emerged back into the base, his eyes settling on Locus. 'The bastard…'
He had to die. But Felix knew him too well, Locus knows that he wants him death, or at the very lest suspects it. Just as Felix has his sights set on him, Locus has his set right back at him. And on a one-on-one confrontation, he knows that Locus has the upper hand. And he hates it.
So, he needs something that Locus doesn't have: Allies. Ice-Cream baby was a possible ally, and if he performs well enough on this operation the he'll have more of Cinder's grace and more opportunity to out Locus as a goodie two-shoes.
"Okay, I'm ready," he said, as he checked his DMR up and down. "What now?"
"Sit there and try not to look like you came out of a toy store," Roman said as he walked past him. "We got a schedule to follow and the grunt work is already on thanks to the animals."
"STOP CALLING US THAT!" A grunt that was wearing glasses over his mask complained from one of the cabins.
"Oh, cry me a river!" Roman called back. "Jeez, these people can't take a joke…" He turned back to look at Felix and gave him a shrug. "So really, there's nothing for you to do. Except killing some Grimm that might crawl in her, or in the off-case, a certain red-hooded, hero wannabe kid."
Felix rolled his eyes. As if they would be let to come here, this zone was closed off for a reason and would not allow anything short of a third-year student to come here, much less someone with a muddy reputation like Team RWBY. "Relax, I had that covered remember."
"Hmph, whatever," Roman said turning around. "Neo, come. I saved you some threats for your return."
If she could, she would have squealed with the way she slapped her hands on her cheeks and her mouth opened in delight. She skipped next to Roman and the two climbed in the main cabin.
Leaving the two former soldiers of the UNSC alone.
"… It's pointless to ask if you're going to give me back my sword, right?" Felix asked dryly.
"…"
"Yep, figures," He said in a biting tone. Seriously, why was he even here?! "I can't wait for this job to be over so I can get never see your ugly mug again."
"You barely see my face."
"You know what I mean."
No more words were exchanged between the two. And Felix meant what he said. Finishing this job, gaining allies in Neo and Cinder plus their own allies, that will give him the edge of finally taking Locus out from his life. Or life in general.
For now, he has to be a team player.
It was a boring-ass day. Roman was right. Hours passed and nothing interesting happened, other than some Taijitus Grimm slithering their way through the cracks around the base, that were dealt with a swift cut from his knife, or a bullet from Locus. By now, it must be night-time and all he's done was sit on his ass.
The beeping sound that came from his Scroll was the only thing that resonated from the otherwise quiet base. Seriously, the White Fang members were all too stiff, even back at Chorus the other mercenaries from Charon at least spoke before going to fight the natives.
A yawn escaped his mouth, and he thanked God that this thing weren't as hermetic as they seem, otherwise he'd be stuck with the smell of whatever porridge Roman had him for lunch. Cheap bastard.
Then he heard rustling and from one of the surrounding buildings, two members of the Fang that were sent to scout the area above emerged, dragging someone with them. When his eyes settled on the barely conscious figure being dragged, his eyes widened and his spine ran cold.
"Hey, boss?" Perry, or four-eyes, or dumbass who wears glasses over a mask, called Roman. "You might want to see this."
"Is it good or bad, Perry?" Torchwick answers from inside of a railcar. "Because let me tell ya, I have had a day..."
'Ditto…' Felix thought as he clenched and unclenched his fist in anger, worry, and despair.
"Ummm… Is a little girl?"
Roman pokes his head from the railcar, eyes wide in a manner not dissimilar to Felix's own. "Oh… that'd be bad."
'Ditto again…' Felix thought as he walked forward and knelt down to the level of the prisoner and grabbed a fistful of her hair. "The hell are you doing here?!"
Ruby Rose could only stare at him with nervousness and fear.
A/N: Chan chan chaaaaaan.
A chapter where the baddies plans are set in motion, as well as Locus being my plot-device to send team RWBY to Mountain Glenn.
Gonna be honest and say I want to end the Vale arc soon. Since most of my ideas revolve around Mistral, but patience will give me results I hope
Someone tell my brain to shut up, because now I have the idea of a RWBY X Digimon Crossover, mostly inspired thanks to Volumen 9. And because the idea of Ruby Rose and Hackmon as partners is too good. Help.
And so you know~ in my Patre on we are already on the Breach, so if you wanna see it, here's a link for just one measly dollar:
