CHAPTER 33: ABSOLUTE VICTORY?
"Yesterday at seven thirty in the evening, the hero known as Allmight attacked Director Izuku Midoriya, the head of the Hero Regulation Department during a presentation at Coruscant Stadium."
...
"After being defeated the criminal appears to have vanished from the scene."
...
"Assisting him in his escape is the retired hero Gran Torino and U.A. student Katsuki Bakugou."
...
"I can't believe Allmight attacked Director Midoriya like that."
...
"Director Midoriya has done so much good for society, why would Allmight want to undo all that?"
...
"As a member of the 'Quirkless and Proud' organization I stand by Director Midoriya's decisions and I'm appalled that a man who was once quirkless himself would raise his fist to stop someone who only wants fair treatment and equal rights to all citizens."
...
"I knew that Bakugou kid was a bad egg. Just look at this year's sports festival."
...
"U.A's standards are certainly falling if they let a ticking time bomb like Katsuki Bakugou into their academy. Thank goodness Shoto Todoroki was there to stop him before he could do any damage."
Inko had heard enough of these reporters and civilian statements. She flipped off the television just as they finished showing another replay of her son and the former number one hero's epic clash. Her heart nearly stopped when she originally watched it yesterday as it was happening live. She originally wanted to go to the stadium, but Izuku told her not to, that it was going to be too dangerous. Now she knew why. Izuku must have expected an attack like this. No he was probably counting on it.
There was just so much that didn't make sense to Inko Midoriya anymore. When did her son go from loving Allmight to hating Allmight? Katsuki and Izuku were such close friends as children. Yet the former was now a wanted criminal according to the latter. The whole world was turned upside down all thanks to her son and it honestly worried her.
"I just hope your happy now Izuku." Inko sincerely hoped her son was well and truly satisfied.
MEANWHILE-RUNDOWN APARTMENT BUILDING
The place was rather quiet, that was until the door handle and lock was melted off in seconds. After that the door was kicked wide open and in walked Todoroki who carefully glanced around the place. His scouter didn't detect any active quirks nearby, so no surprise attacks were waiting for him. Behind him two Titans followed, ducking down to fit through the doorway.
"Search the building." Todoroki ordered. The robots made a low growling noise as they obeyed and stomped through the place, searching every room, nook and cranny. Outside on the roof of a nearby building Gran Torino watched as his home was ransacked and searched.
"Midoriya certainly doesn't waste any time." The old man whispered to himself as he quietly turned around to flee, by jumping from roof top to roof top. He thought he could get back to his place in time to pick up a few things, but it looked like that wasn't going to happen.
ELSEWHERE
"Toshinori let's take a break for a second." A tall blonde teenager paused in his training. He turned around to face a taller dark haired woman. It looked like she had something on her mind.
"What is it master?" Toshinori put down the weights he was lifting and approached her.
"I heard from Torino that they're starting to teach you more about villains at U.A." The woman handed her successor a bottle of water which he took gratefully. "I just wanted to tell you there's actually people out there more dangerous than your average villains that the teachers won't talk about."
"Who could be more dangerous than villains?" Yagi wondered aloud.
"Those that have been hurt by the world." Nana stated with sad look on her face. "You'll come to learn Toshinori, that the world isn't fair to everybody. It can be quite cruel especially to those who didn't deserve any of it. These people want nothing more than to make the world hurt for hurting them in the first place."
"Hurt people hurt people." Toshinori summed up in agreement.
"In simple terms yes. It goes much deeper than that though." She stopped to let him think on that. "What I'm getting at is that these people will know exactly how to hurt others, they will know the best way to cause pain, and they will know all the weak points of humanity."
"So they're smarter villains?" Toshinori asked.
"Not quite, but you'll get the point."
"So what do I do if I find one of these hurt people?"
"Well you can fight and arrest them. That's what a normal hero would do, but a true hero would save that person from the pain and misery that's slowly eating them from the inside." Shimura told him. In truth all the revenge in the world would never satisfy the pain in someone's heart.
"How do I do that?" She smiled and ruffled his hair.
"That's up to you to figure out."
Dark sunken eyes slowly opened as the last remnants of his dream faded away. It wasn't often that he dreamed of past memories of his master, but when he did it always brought sorrow to Toshinori's spirit. There was so much he wanted to show Nana Shimura, so much he wanted her to see. Toshinori wanted so badly for her to be there for when he ushered in a new era of peace. She deserved to see that after everything that happened in her time. Sadly that peace didn't last thanks to Midoriya. Everything was falling apart now.
Toshinori started to look around. It appeared that he was in someone's bedroom, but there was hardly any furniture. His body hurt all over, especially his chest area, which he noticed was covered in bandages and gauze. Midoriya's Infinity Smash really did a number on him. Before he could take full stock of his injuries the door slowly creaked open and in walked someone he hadn't seen in a long time.
"I suppose I told you so is the last thing you want to hear." Sir Night Eye said stoically. "But you're going to hear it any way." Allmight couldn't help but chuckle even though it hurt his bandaged chest to do it.
"I thought you said I'd die fighting a villain, yet I'm still alive." Toshinori recalled.
"The visions are sometimes vague, leaving them open for different interpretations." Night Eye corrected. "However based off the recent news it appears your hero career and legacy has died. In other words due to your defeat, for all intents and purpose the hero Allmight is dead." They both looked saddened at that fact. Nighteye hated seeing Allmight lose his smile and once again cursed Izuku Midoriya's name for taking so much from the hero. His heart nearly stopped yesterday when he watched Toshinori be sent flying out of the stadium by the boy's empowered fist.
"Where are we anyway?" The gaunt injured man asked.
"A rented apartment that my agency was using to stake out a possible base of the Shie Hassaikai." Nighteye explained as he pulled up a chair to sit down next to the bed. "It was off the record to avoid suspicion so Midoriya won't be able to track us here."
"I wouldn't underestimate him if I were you." They'd been making that same mistake over and over again.
"I'm not. In fact I'm taking every precaution necessary." The tall well-dressed hero adjusted his glasses indignantly. "Had I been brought in on this case earlier I probably could have helped you stop Midoriya before he got this far."
"Fair enough, but I wouldn't refer to this as just another case." He looked down at his heavily bandaged chest. "This is more like a…"
"Catastrophe." His former sidekick finished for him. Toshinori sighed sadly.
"What happened while I was out?" The older man asked. Were Gran Torino and Young Bakugou safe?
"Midoriya called a city wide search and warrant for the arrest of Allmight, Gran Torino and Katsuki Bakugou." Night Eye explained. "Nezu called me as I was the least likely person Midoriya would expect to help you. Mirio went ahead to go rescue you. The principal forged some documents to make it look like he was with me for his work study for the past few days so Midoriya won't suspect him either."
"Why did you help me?" He thought after the way they parted the other would want nothing more to do with him.
"Why wouldn't I?" Nighteye asked as if it was obvious. "Do you really think I care about you so little that our past grievances would make a difference?" Toshinori couldn't help but smile happily, despite how much pain he was in right now. As happy as he was he still wished that this reunion was under better circumstances. Another regret he'd probably have to live with.
"Oh good he's awake!" Mirio exclaimed as he phased his head through the door. Pulling back he then opened the door from the other side. There stood the third year student Mirio Togata followed by the first year student Katsuki Bakugou.
"Young Togata, Young Bakugou." Toshinori attempted to get up, but struggled.
"Easy there, you're body took quite a hit." Mirio helped him into a sitting position while Katsuki just stared at the floor with frustration, unable to even look at the former hero. He still couldn't believe what happened at the stadium yesterday. Not only did that half and half bastard mop the floor with him, but Deku overpowered and defeated Allmight. Nothing was making sense anymore. When he did finally meet Allmight's eyes he flinched seeing the hard disapproving gaze.
"Young man what the hell were you thinking?" Toshinori coughed a few times.
"I was just…" Bakugou didn't know what to say.
"You weren't supposed to be there." The gaunt man continued. "Do you understand what you've done, by helping me? You destroyed whatever future you could have had as a hero." Bakugou swallowed the lump in his throat as his eyes started to water. The realization of the consequences finally setting in. "However. Had it not been for you I'd probably be in prison right now, so thank you my boy." Bakugou's eyes widened in surprise as he quickly wiped the tears away.
"He's right. As long as Allmight is alive and free, Midoriya hasn't completely won yet." Nighteye nodded in agreement.
"So what's the plan?" Mirio asked everyone.
"There is no plan. Izuku Midoriya's Infinity Gauntlet has made him stronger than me. There's nothing more I can do." Allmight confessed solemnly. Even he could no longer be hopefully optimistic anymore.
"Come on we can't give up now." Mirio smiled. "There must be a way we haven't thought of."
"You don't get it. Midoriya's too smart and too powerful." Toshinori lamented. He was wrong about the boy. With his mind he would have made a wonderful hero, probably one of the best. It was far too late for that now.
"Then we'll just have to become stronger than him." Mirio said with confidence.
"If it were that easy we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place." Nighteye corrected. He then looked to Toshinori. "It's gone isn't it?"
"One for All you mean." Toshinori sighed. "Not quite. I can probably use it for less than a minute, but I felt nearly all of it drain away when Midoriya over powered me." Bakugou remained silent, wishing that he could have done more and cursing Todoroki for getting in his way.
"You can't stay here much longer." Nighteye suddenly said. "Midoriya's robots are practically on every street corner. Which means that he has eyes and ears everywhere. It's only a matter of time before he finds you here."
"So where can we go?" Bakugou asked. They were wanted fugitives now. Just like the League of Villains. He scoffed thinking that Deku probably reveled in the idea of them being on the same level as those piece of shits.
"Well my home is out of the question." Gran Torino appeared in the doorway to the bedroom. "They searched it this morning."
"Were you followed?" Nighteye questioned him.
"Who do you think you're asking that?" Gran Torino grumbled. "I may be old but I still fast enough to outwit a few walking tin cans." He then walked up to Toshinori and bopped him on the head much to Bakugou and Nighteye's annoyance. "When you realized it was a trap why didn't you just leave? Nothing was stopping you. You could have made a statement without resorting to violence."
"I know I screwed up." Toshinori agreed. "But had I left Midoriya would have found a way to use it against me. I truly thought I could defeat him if I didn't hold back."
"It seems Midoriya is a lot more powerful than you originally thought." Nighteye added. "If what Mirio told me is true then with One for All and All for One in his possession there is no limit to how strong he can become." There really wasn't much hope in defeating him.
"We still need to find a place we can hide." Bakugou reminded them. "Deku will be on our ass anytime now."
"Midoriya's influence covers nearly all of Japan, plus with his ties to the villains he probably has control over the majority of the criminal underground by now." Nighteye was racking his brain to come up with a solution. "They only way you'll be out of his reach is to flee the country."
'Just like last time.' Toshinori clenched his fists in frustration. It was just like the time when his master was killed by that man and he had to continue his training in America. It was there where he met…Suddenly an idea popped into his head.
"Nighteye can you send a long distance message for me?" The injured hero asked.
"I'm not under suspicion so of course I can. What do you need?" The former sidekick wondered what he had in mind.
"I need you to get in touch with an old friend of mine."
U.A. ACADEMY
The entry way was blocked by squad cars and police. A Group of Titan robots stood guard over it. Surrounding the schools main building even more robots stood keeping a perimeter. In the air Ochako aka Angel flew over the grounds, watching for any suspicious activity and keeping an eye out for any sign of Allmight or Bakugou. It'd be foolish and idiotic for them to come back here but Izuku said it was best to be on the safe side.
Inside the school another search was underway. The teacher's office was being turned over, the administration and faculty were being questioned and yesterday's security footage was being confiscated. Within the principal's office an interesting discussion was taking place.
"So tell me Nezu whose idea was it for Allmight to come attack me?" Izuku asked rather smugly. "Yours or his?"
"I'm afraid I don't know anything about this." The principal denied any knowledge of the events.
"Washing your hands of Allmight now that your little plan backfired, how political of you." Izuku smirked. "Then again you probably know what I'm going to do to him when he's caught. Imagine what I'll do to you if he decides to sell you out during the trial."
"I have done nothing wrong and you can't prove that I did." Nezu really didn't like being outsmarted by this mastermind of a teenager. Not just once, but multiple times the boy had somehow predicted exactly what they would do to try and fight him and turned their plans against them. In a way he was right. Society's complete dismissal of the quirkless boy gave him all the time he needed to plot and scheme.
"Your right I can't." The gauntlet user chuckled as he paced around Nezu's desk, like a shark circling his prey. "But I know it was you that went looking into government files for something incriminating to use." Izuku stopped directly behind the animal's chair. "I wonder Nezu. If I took your quirk from you, would you be reduced to a filthy gibbering animal, crawling around on all fours?" Nezu had to suppress a nervous gulp as he saw that gauntlet reach over the chair, getting into his face. The purple soul stone glowing menacingly. It was retracted a moment later. "You get one fair warning Nezu. If you make another move against me or the Hero Regulation Department I will bring the full force of the government's political hammer on you and this whole school so hard you won't know what to do." He punctuated his threat with a loud clink that came from the sound of him clenching his gauntlet covered hand.
"You know. I honestly hope you're satisfied with yourself." Despite his threats Nezu still stood up to him. "You finally destroyed Allmight in nearly every sense of the word just like you wanted. I hope you're completely satisfied now."
"I'm very satisfied actually." Izuku walked to front of his desk. "I've finally proven my point. This society was built on lies. Allmight said that anyone could be a hero, but sadly that wasn't true at all. The biggest and worst lie of all though was the value of quirks." He glared at the mouse-like creature. "Quirks are so great, quirks decide your future, and quirks are required to be a hero. By defeating Allmight I've torn this lie away. If a quirkless loser like me can overpower the greatest hero in the world then there is hope for the weak and forgotten! All of those that your precious society deemed useless have a chance to be somebody now!"
"It just took a lot of violence, destruction and thievery to get to that." Nezu reminded him of all his crimes he committed to achieve this.
"A small price to pay." Izuku turned around walked towards the door. "When we have true heroes, when everything is fair and just, the world will appreciate what I had to do." With a wave of his gauntlet the doors were opened. "U.A will be under scrutiny for an indefinite amount of time. I'll be watching you. All of you." He turned around and smiled at the principal. "Good day." As soon as the doors closed Nezu slouched in his chair wiping the sweat from his furry face.
OUTSIDE
"Recover Girl hasn't set foot off the grounds in the past forty eight hours." Iida reported.
"Excellent. Without her Allmight won't be properly healed and wherever they're hiding him he'll be stuck there for quite some time." Izuku smirked. It looked like checkmate for the former number one hero. The fact that Bakugou as going down with him was just icing on the cake.
"He's obviously not here, we should leave and look elsewhere." Iida told him.
"Your right he's not here." The green haired teen agreed. "However we'll keep watch over the school in case he tries to come back." The other boy silently cursed at that. He was hoping Midoriya would leave U.A alone as that would make it easier to send secret messages to them. While he was interrogating Recover Girl he couldn't even tell her that he was a spy as there were two robots in the room recording the conversation.
"All clear up above!" They looked up to see Ochako hovering above their heads. She landed gracefully next to them, metallic wings folding up behind her. "No suspicious activity to report."
"Good. We're leaving a legion of Titans behind to monitor the perimeter." The three of them made their way towards U.A's main entrance where an armored vehicle awaited them. "Now let's go meet with Fahrenheit and find out what he's turned up." Everything was going so well for him. Personally it didn't matter whether or not they found and captured Allmight. As much as that would please him. Allmight was defeated and could never challenge him again, so his threat was completely nonexistent now.
'Run Allmight. Run and hide.' He thought to himself. 'Your time is over. All you can do now is watch from the sidelines as the world around you changes. So just sit there and fade away into nothing.' Izuku couldn't help but smile proudly even as he felt drops of rain start pelting his face.
LATER THAT NIGHT
Five individuals stood at the docks of Scarif Harbor. Luckily the rain gave them a good excuse to hide under raincoats, so nobody questioned their state of dress. Behind them a large vessel containing shipping containers was ready to set off.
"So this is goodbye then." Sir Nighteye said solemnly. It didn't seem fair that he finally got back in touch with Allmight only to be separated again so soon.
"Not forever. Just until we can figure out a way to defeat Midoriya." Allmight told him. Underneath his raincoat he was still badly injured and was forced to use a cane to get around. "David Shield is one of the smartest people I know. Perhaps he can figure out how the Infinity Gauntlet works and even a way to counter it." The plan was simple. Nighteye was able to successfully pass on a message to David Shield and almost immediately got a response. Using coded emails they quickly devised an escape plan for Allmight, Gran Torino and Bakugou. They would board the cargo ship tonight before Midoriya had the Prime Minister put a temporary travel ban on the country. David wired some money to the captain as a bribe to let them on and a little extra for his silence.
Once they were a few safe miles into international waters they would take a life boat at night, leave the ship and await a helicopter to come pick them up. From there they would be taken to I-Island under the pretense that they were a team of hired help for Professor Shield. With David vouching for them, they should have no trouble getting in without attention. I-Island was the perfect place to hide out for them while they came up with a strategy to free society from Midoriya's iron grip.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with us?" Toshinori asked again. "I'm sure David wouldn't mind two more people."
"Sorry, but I can't just up and leave right now." Nighteye apologized. "It'd be wrong to leave the members of my agency to take on the Shie Hassaikai alone. Plus with me staying behind I can report to you what Midoriya's up to."
"Sir's right. I'm also staying here to fight Midoriya on our home turf. He can't cover all his bases." Mirio smiled. He still had hope even after everything that victory was still achievable.
"Hurry up the boat's leaving." Bakugou growled, interrupting them. He wasn't in the best mood right now. Not only was he wanted criminal, but he couldn't even contact his parents to tell them what was going on. Nighteye and Mirio said that they would try to get a message to them, but that would have to wait until the heat died down as his parents' home was probably under watch right now.
"I'll be back. That's a promise." Toshinori told his former sidekick before suppressing a violent cough. All this moving around was bad for his new injuries. "This isn't the last you'll see of me." The group finished their goodbyes and boarded the ship. Yes they were fleeing with the promise to one day return. Yes it was Izuku Midoriya's victory, but they vowed to return and take back their home from this villain's control. This was not over. Not by a long shot.
Everyone doing alright? Staying clean and healthy? Not going stir crazy being quarantined yet? My job just closed its doors this week, so now I am officially housebound. Hopefully I can get more chapters out during all this mess.
So this is goodbye for Allmight, Gran Torino and Bakugou. We wont be seeing them for a long time. Later down the road when I get Mellissa involved in this, we'll check back with them then. Mirio is not wanted by Midoriya because he quickly took out the robots before they saw him. So Izuku knows that there was another person helping Allmight escape, he just doesn't know who yet. I wanted to clarify that.
I won't be doing the events from the movie, but I will be using the characters and location eventually. On that note I'm not doing anything from the second movie, sorry for those that wanted that.
Thank you for reading.
Remember to wash your hands.
