Hey guys. So I got this random fic idea, seeing as Date A Live S4 is right around the corner. At the time of posting this, there is also no other fic with this combination either. However unlike Yu-Gi-Oh: The Curse of the Rosario, where I have a storyline planned; for this one, I only have a general idea, so I'm not even sure if I'll continue this at all. But for your amusement, I figured I'd post what I got and see how the reception goes.
Other than that, enjoy this fun little fic I wrote. And if I get enough feedback, maybe I'll add-on to it. I also have a poll active for a Date A Live lemon if you want to answer it.
Alexis/Mindy: Game on!
Alexis LP: 4000
Mindy LP: 4000
Turn 1 - Both players draw their starting hands (5 cards). No cards in play.
Mindy: Why don't you go first, Lexi? Don't want this Duel to end too quickly.
Alexis: *Geez, Jasmine was right… Mindy doesn't seem like herself at all… what happened to her?* … Fine by me. (Draws her first card) I'll start by playing Etoile Cyber in Defense Mode!
One of Alexis' signature Cyber Girl monsters takes to the field in a Defensive stance. (AN: Monsters' Battle Positions are in BOLD print unless Set.)
Etoile Cyber - Warrior/EARTH/Level 4/ATK: 1200/DEF: 1700
Alexis: Then I'll play one other card on the field, ending my turn. (Sets a card)
Turn 2 - Mindy. Hand: 5. No cards in play.
Mindy: That's it? How sad… (Draws a card, but smirks in an evil way upon seeing it) Oh Ara, Ara. I just drew my new favorite card… but in order to play it, I'll have to play these! (Plays 2 Spell Cards of the same name) Cost Down!
Alexis: (blinks) Cost Down? Two of them?
Bastion: With 2 Cost Downs, she has to discard 2 cards to activate them both. That'll lower all her monsters' levels by 4 for this turn.
Jasmine: So she's planning to Summon a high-level monster?
Chazz: That's such a stupid move. Even if it IS a decently strong monster, why would she give up 4 cards just for that one? Even Slifer Slackers know card advantage is everything, especially at the start of a Duel.
Alexis: Can't believe I'm saying this, but Chazz has a point. Why would you give up 4 cards just to play only one?
Mindy: (sounds amused) Hmhmhmhm, you think that's bad? Wait till you see what I'm discarding… (Shows the 2 cards shes gonna throw out, showing 2 Level 7 monsters. They were Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest; and Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest. Both very powerful monsters and both having large amounts of ATK power. That's not even mentioning their Effects and Support Cards.)
Alexis: Those?! But why them? I've seen you Duel, Mindy. Those are 2 of your best monsters!
Mindy: Like I said, I have new favorite monster… one leagues allot stronger than both those chimps combined. And thanks to my double Cost Down, she can be Summoned right now, and without a single Tribute.
"Guys!" Offscreen, a voice calls out to the Duelists in or watching this Duel. It was shown to be Jaden and Shido, looking like they both ran marathons, both panting. "*Huff. Puff* We got here as soon as we could." Said Jaden.
Mindy: (is glad both boys showed up) Oh, perfect! Jaden's here! And his cute new friend, Shido! Just in time for the big performance! (To Alexis) And trust me when I say, its one even you won't be able to beat. Not even Jaden can save you if he was joining us.
Shido happened to looked up from recovering from the run… and that's when he saw it. He froze up.
"Shi? What's wro-?" Jaden asked, looking in the same direction, and he saw it too… it was like Yoshino's, Tohka's and Miku's cards. Mindy's card had some kind of aura only he and Shido were able to see due to one being able to absorb Spirit Power and the other being Super Polymerized with one.
The difference… this one was dark…
Jaden: Mindy! NO! Don't play that card!
Mindy: (it was too late. She did not listen or didn't hear Jaden's warning and held the card up high) I think it's about TIME your revealed yourself! (Plays the card on her Duel Disk) Kurumi Tokisaki - The Nightmare Spirit!
Alexis: (eyes widen) *Spirit?!*
Of course, everyone else had the same reaction, not expecting Mindy of all people to have a Spirit from another universe in her Deck. When the card itself was played, instead of lighting up the Duel Disk, it dimmed the lights of it which was not supposed to happen. And when its holographic card was Summoned, something VERY different happened. As opposed to a regular summon animation where the monster would come out of the card or just sparkle to the field, some kind of blackish shadow leaked out from the card art… it was honestly a little creepy.
Like sludge, the shadow dripped onto the field into a puddle, then the form of a girl arose from it. She looked seemingly normal, wearing a black gothic dress that matched the color of her long hair that was tied by twin tails going down her shoulders. She had red eyes, though her left one was concealed by her hair.
Shido: … Kurumi…
This only lasted one second, before she smiled friendly with closed eyes… and her true form was revealed…
(AN: Play any theme from Yu-Gi-Oh when a very powerful monster is summoned, or the theme when Origami from Date A Live turned Inverse in season 3 - episode 10, ironically against Kurumi anyway.)
The same shadow wrapped itself around her body from below like a cocoon, beginning her transformation. The first thing that happened was once the shadow exploded off her, it showed her black dress changed into a elegant crimson red one, having black frills around it, and it was also backless. There was now a red-black collar around her neck, and she wore black boots. She was also now wearing a crimson red bow that held her hair, but now her twin tails had moved upwards a bit, with one being longer than the other whereas before it was about the same length.
The most shocking part of the transformation; was golden clock inside her previously concealed eye, explaining WHY it was hidden in the first place. The camera zooms in on this clock as it ticked counter-clockwise a bit before the camera zooms away, Kurumi now striking a pose after licking 2 of her fingers.
Kurumi Tokisaki - Machine-Spirit/DARK/Level 8 (4)/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000
The other students were in shock. Just like the other Spirits, Kurumi herself was incredibly beautiful, and they could only imagine what type of powers she'll have and how strong they were.
Alexis: (blinks a few times) … she's gorgeous. *Not to mention strong; but it won't matter.* (camera zooms in on her face-down, it becoming transparent to show its a Trap) *As soon as I play my Hallowed Life Barrier Trap Card, her incoming attack will be useless.*
Hassleberry: (is stunned by Kurumi's appearance, then looks toward Shido) … 'nother girlfriend of yours, Private?
Shido: Well… it's complicated.
Mindy: She is quite a knockout, isn't she? Just wait till you see what she can do. Zafkiel!
Everyone thought she might be playing another card or Summoning another monster as Mindy still had 2 cards left, but to their shock, a giant clock similar to the type in Kurumi's eye spawned behind her with an echoing "tock" sound after she raised her hands. All its numbers (except 12 for some reason) were also lit up. Not only that, a musket and gun appeared rising from the depths of a dark mass below Kurumi's feet, with the Spirit picking each weapon up with one hand each!
Mindy: Aleph!
No one (except Shido) had heard that term before, but they were even more shocked at what Kurumi did next. Positioning one of her guns like the hands on a clock, Kurumi was pointing to the number 1. When that happened, a dark energy left this number, slowing going into the barrel of her gun. In addition to that, her clock-eye also ticked forward a bit for another currently unknown reason.
The gun made a clocking sound as Kurumi pointed it to Alexis' side of the field, then the Spirit smiled at Alexis for a second before she…
BANG!
Aside from Mindy and Alexis (who was still processing what had just happened), the others gasped. Kurumi had turned the gun on herself, bending her arm and shooting the gun into the side of her head.
Syrus: GAAAAAAAAA!
Hassleberry: SAM HILL!
Chazz: The Goth clocked herself!
There was no blood nor any visible damage from Kurumi's head injury, not even the shatter effect indicating monster destruction. In fact, she simply raised her head back up, as if she had not just shot herself in the head, which was even creepier.
Mindy: Now for Zafkiel - Vav!
Again, Kurumi positioned her gun, now towards the 6. Like before, energy was absorbed by the gun. As this occurred; that same number along with 10 through 7 also blacked out. The question was, why?
CLOCK! BANG!
Kurumi shot another bullet, only this time it sailed straight through Alexis' face-down Trap Card, then it disappeared. It appeared to have been Banished/Removed from play, but even the card in the Duel Disk itself was gone!
Alexis: My Hallowed Life Barrier! Where'd it go?
Mindy: (giggles) Not where… when. Your face-down was sent into the future.
Alexis: The future?
Mindy: That's right. And a future your Cyber Girl has no part of!
(AN: I'm aware "Vav" sends the target into the past, or at least their mind. Mindy has only misinterpreted what the Bullet does. But since the effects of this Bullet eventually returns the target to its original time period anyway, this still works.)
This was an indirect order too attack, where Kurumi shot her pistol 3 times in a rapid session. 2 shots went through Etoile Cyber's upper body, while the 3rd went through its abdomen. After a groan of pain from each shot, and a deeper one upon the chest shot, the monster shattered. Alexis even had to brace herself, shutting her eyes as well. When she opened them, Kurumi was then shown in front of her. Before Alexis could react, Kurumi grinned at her…
BANG!
Alexis: (grabs her shoulder, as thats what was shot, also dropping her cards) ARGH!
Alexis LP: 4000 - 1500
Mindy LP: 4000
Jasmine: (shouts to Alexis in worry after the Duelist takes damage) Lexi!
Syrus: That's crazy! Mindy's monster cleared Alexis' field, AND over half her Life Points in one move!
Blair: I thought Miku hit hard in my Duel, but this Kurumi Spirit…
By this point, Kurumi was now back on Mindy's side of the field. Alexis, after taking such a hit, slowly recovered and also picked her cards back up. The only one that was shown face-up was Polymerization while the rest of them were face-down.
Mindy: I suppose a lot happened at one time, so I guess I should explain. Kurumi's powers are fueled by how much Time she has on her.
Alexis: Her… Time?… (looks at the Spirit, confused; but then sees her clock-eye ticking away) Wait! Her eye…!
Mindy: Exactly. That's her remaining Time. At the start of every one of my turns, one point of her Time, AKA a "Zafkiel Counter", is removed from her. But in other to use her Special Abilities, she has to give up even more Time. Each number on that clock not only represents an Ability, but also how much Time she has to spend in order to use it. You've already experienced 2 of them. "Aleph" allows the targeted monster to attack and use their Effect a second time during the same turn. And as I already explained about "Vav", the target was Banished and sent to a random point in time.
Blair: Wait, so with 12 numbers…
Bastion: They each represent an Ability. A different Effect for every number. So basic math dictates that judging by how much Time Kurumi had spent in one turn, that means she only has 5 turns left to be on the field.
Kurumi's Zafkiel Counters: 12 - 11 - 5
Chazz: So what, she plays a powerful monster with a time limit? That's even worse! Assuming she doesn't clock herself out with her other Abilities, she'll be gone in a few rounds.
Jaden: That's right. And seeing as that clock blacks out a number after using it, she probably can't use those Abilities either, whatever they are.
Mindy: Hehehe… I wouldn't say that…
The moment she declared this, the same shadow that Summoned Kurumi in the first place spread from the bottom of her boots in a small circle… then with a quick motion, it rose up as if to attack Alexis a second time. However, it ended up going into her Graveyard slot, and the physical form of Etoile Cyber that was just destroyed a minute ago appeared to be sucked out by Kurumi's shadow before said monster vanished into the circle below the Nightmare Spirit.
Alexis: My Etoile Cyber!
Mindy: You see, Kurumi does have one passive Ability to offset her own weakness. Whenever she defeats a monster in battle, she also absorbs that monsters Time. For every Star that monster had, she gains one extra counter!
Kurumi then glowed with a crimson aura, as if being refueled by the monster it just "ate". Not only that, but Kurumi's clock-eye went counter-clockwise, and Zafkiel's numbers 6 through 9 lit back up, one-by-one.
Kurumi's Zafkiel Counters: 5 - 9
Mindy: I think that'll be all for now, so I'll be ending my turn here.
As the turn is over, the double Cost Down Effect wore off.
Kurumi Tokisaki - Machine-Spirit/DARK/Level 8/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2000
Turn 3 - Alexis. Hand: 4. No cards in play.
Alexis: (Draws a card) *Ugh, nothing in my hands gonna help me out against Kurumi. I probably shouldn't Summon a monster; she can destroy any one them AND gain more Time out of it, but if I don't, I can't protect my Life Points either! And with only 1500 left to my name, I'll lose.* (Sets a monster) I'll play one monster in Defense Mode, and one face-down card. (Sets a card)
Shido: That's it? That's all she's gonna do?
Syrus: That's all she can do…
Turn 4 - Mindy. Hand: 2. Monsters: 1, Spells/Traps: 0.
When Mindy draws her next card, Kurumi's clock number 9 dimmed as the Standby Phase passed.
Kurumi's Zafkiel Counters: 9 - 8
Mindy: Alright, Kurumi. Attack!
CLOCK… BANG! BANG!… BANG, BANG! BANG!
Kurumi held up her musket and shot it at Alexis' face-down monster 5 times in a row, 4 for each corner of the card, along with the 5th in the center for good measure. As the monster card dissipated, the form of Blade Skater was shown in pain. If that wasn't bad enough, Kurumi's shadow absorbed that monster just like Etoile Cyber before, "eating" its Time and adding it to her own as her clock-eye rewinded itself as well.
Kurumi's Zafkiel Counters: 8 - 12
Alexis gritted her teeth as Kurumi absorbed another monster… how was she supposed to beat a monster like this? Her having high ATK was hard enough, but she also had 12 other Abilities she had to worry about, not to mention the Nightmare kept absorbing more energy with every monster she destroyed as fuel for those same Abilities!
Mindy: You look like you need a time out, Lexi… Kurumi. Give her some of Zafkiel's - Dalet.
When the order was given, Kurumi pointed to the 4 of the Zafkiel clock, indicating it was it's 4th Ability. Just like numbers 1 and 6 before it, dark energy was absorbed from Zafkiel and into Kurumi's gun.
Kurumi's Zafkiel Counters: 12 - 8
Once the Bullet was loaded, the Spirit took aim at Alexis directly!
BANG!
Alexis: (is shot by the bullet) AH!
Bastion: She struck directly!
Blair: She lost!
…
…
…
Alexis: (looks over herself after being shot) Huh?… it didn't hurt?
A second after making that statement…
Alexis LP: 1500 - 4000
Mindy LP: 4000
Jaden: Her Life Points shot back up!
Everyone (except Shido) was surprised. Somehow, Alexis' LP had gotten restored.
Shido: Dalet's effect isn't damage. Its like hitting the rewind button. Kurumi usually uses that Bullet to heal herself.
Mindy: (giggles) Sweet Shido is right on point.
Alexis: Wait so, you healed me?
Mindy: To be exact, whomever is shot with Dalet will regain the same amount of Time, or in our case Life Points, that the target last lost. Though it won't bring back points if they are paid for something. Its not exactly healing… more like turning back the clock.
Alexis: But why?… Why didn't you use another Ability? Or Aleph again? You could've won the Duel.
Mindy: (giggles again) And have it end so soon? Don't you get it, Lexi? As long as I have Kurumi on the field, we've got all the time in the world.
This was seriously unlike Mindy. It sounded like what she wanted to do was keep this Duel going as long as humanly possible, even restoring both their LP if necessary. It a way, it was almost like torture. Mindy ended her turn here.
Turn 5 - Alexis. Hand: 2. Monsters: 0, Spells/Traps: 1.
Alexis: (Draws a card) … I'll activate Pot of Greed, letting me Draw 2 more cards. (Draws 2 more cards, giving her 4. Her hand is shown to have Polymerization, Cyber Tutu, Snow Fairy, and Stray Lambs) *Argh. Still nothing! None of these cards'll help get past Kurumi!*
Mindy: (giggles) Don't worry about my turn, Lexi. Take as much time as you need.
Alexis: (scowls at Mindy's pun and after 3 seconds, makes her next move) I'll also activate the Spell Card, Stray Lambs. Which will Summon 2 Sheep Tokens to my side of the field in Defense Mode.
Upon Stray Lambs activating, 2 Sheep Tokens in the shape of pom-poms were Summoned to defend Alexis while "baa-ing". It wasn't much of a defense though, but it was something. Hopefully none of Kurumi's bullets could inflict piercing or effect damage.
Sheep Token (2x) - Beast/EARTH/Level 1/ATK: 0/DEF: 0
Alexis: I'll also Set this monster as well, ending my turn. (Sets a monster)
Turn 6 - Mindy. Hand: 3. Monsters: 1, Spells/Traps: 0.
Kurumi's Zafkiel Counters: 8 - 7
Mindy: (Draws a card) I think Kurumi's looking a bit lonely. Why not we bring out a friend for her?
Everyone thought she was gonna finally play another monster… but The Nightmare's shadow below her began to expand. Before anyone could ask why…
Kurumi?: Hehehehehehe…
Kurumi?: He-HE-hehehehe…
From her shadow, 2 more Kurumi's arose from it, each taking a side next to what everyone assumed was the real Kurumi. You can only imagine the shock on their faces.
Jasmine: No way!
Chazz: Its 3 times the trouble!
Mindy: And the more, the merrier. It's not just 3, for as long as I have space left on my side, Kurumi has the power to Summon pieces of herself from all across history. The past, present, and even future! And I can do so each turn!
Kurumi Clone Tokens (2x) - Machine-Spirit/DARK/Level 4/ATK: 1500/DEF: 1500
Alexis herself was rendered speechless. One Kurumi was hard enough… now she had to deal with an army of them?!
Mindy: Sadly, these clones can't use Zafkiel's Abilites, nor can I attack you the turn Kurumi Summons them, so its your move again.
Turn 7 - Alexis. Hand: 2. Monsters: 3, Spells/Traps: 1.
Alexis goes to Draw her next card, but hesitates; her hand starting to shake over her Deck, as well as her eyes while gritting her teeth. She thought Titan was bad. She thought Maitre'D was bad (to a degree). She thought being sacrificed to create a Spell Card was the worst possible only behind being trapped in that same world twice! She honestly thought all the craziness ever since meeting Jaden was bad enough… but THIS?!
How was she even supposed to Duel with a monster that literally controls and bends the flow of time to her will (or bullets in this case)? From only 3 out of her other 9 currently unknown Time Effects, the Obelisk Student could tell Kurumi was gonna be one of those monsters… one that was gonna be EXTREMELY difficult to overcome. And even if she does find a possible strategy; whats to stop Mindy from telling Kurumi to press "rewind" again?
And on top of AAAAAAAAALL of that… CLONE herself!
Jaden: Alexis! Don't give up! (Alexis hears Jaden and looks back at the group) Come on! You've been in WAY worse situations than this! If anyone can clean that Spirits clock, its gonna be you!
Shido: Remember, its just like Miku and Yoshino before! If you defeat Kurumi, I can seal her powers again!
Alexis: *That's the thing, guys… I don't know if I can…* (looks back at Kurumi and Mindy.) *Blair was able to win back Miku by herself after a tough fight, and we barely got Yoshino because Jaden tagging with me. Who knows how long it'll be until Mindy stops screwing around and starts playing seriously? I'm running out of time… literally!*
The camera focuses on Kurumi again, panning up her. The Nightmare Spirit giggled as both her eyes glowed red and yellow respectively, with the 2 clones she Summoned before appearing next to her in a fantasy playing in Alexis' head out of stress, the Obelisk not able to help clenching a fist or have her eyes shutter. In order for her to win, she had to find a way to overcome a Spirit that controls time itself.
Alexis: (camera shows a close-up of her; further showing her concerned, shaking eyes) *And if I don't come up with something, I'm not just gonna lose this Duel; I might lose Mindy forever!*
To Be Continued…
That's pretty much all I got for now, but this was only a sample. You have yet to see just how powerful Kurumi can be in this game. Like I said: I don't a huge story plan like the other Yu-Gi-Oh xover, so this is subject to change. Maybe even the Yu-Gi-Oh era may have to be changed.
One thing I will say about Date A Live Sprits in this xover, like how the Rosario cast has game-breaking effects in the other xover… Date A Lives will probably be even worse. Completely broken even! If I do continue this Duel, I can promise it'll be entertaining.
