About a couple of hours after the Golden Guard arrived at their home, Odalia, Edric, Emira, Amity, and Luz got dressed in their finest outfits. Luz didn't own many clothes for fancy parties, the few fancy clothes she did possess were meant to be worn when she was serving guests whenever the Blights had a dinner or garden party. Other than that, her own personal wardrobe was lacking. She did own a nice pair of golden-yellow pants, a pair of black boots, and a nice short sleeved tunic top. Amity had offered to have Luz wear one of her dresses, but when she tried, Luz complained that they were tight around the chest. So, instead, Luz opted for a nice vest that she borrowed from Edric. Luz still needed something to top it off, she searched through her closet and stopped when she saw a purple witch's cloak.
It arrived in a package when she turned fifteen, there was no return address, nor was there any name that indicated who sent it. It was quite big when she received it, but now, at her current age, it should fit just fine. The cloak had a beautiful sheen to it, but it wasn't an ordinary cloak. A witch's cloak was imbued with magic and could defend its wearer against a multitude of spells that were cast at them. When she got it, Luz asked Amity to have it looked at, and it was verified that it was a witch's cloak. Such things weren't made lightly, they were made for specific witches, and took time and effort to weave. Whoever weaved the cloak did it for Luz's protection.
Eda the Owl Lady hadn't been declared dead since the Catastrophe four years ago. The Owl House was abandoned, and the house demon, Hooty, was gone. Luz wanted to believe that Eda was still out there, still alive, and the cloak reinforced that notion. But at the same time, the idea that Eda was still alive angered her a little. Some moments, Luz wanted to hope that Eda was dead, because then it would be a good reason for why she never came for her. Why Eda never rescued her from the orphanage after he Catastrophe. Yes Eda was a Wild Witch, an outlaw, but at that point, Luz didn't care. She needed someone whom she regarded as family to take her in…
Luz shook her head, she had to stop thinking about that. Luz put the cloak on and admired herself in the mirror before exiting the room. Once she left, Luz assembled downstairs with the rest of the Blight family and stood at Amity's right side. Odalia inspected her children and frowned slightly when she looked at Luz.
"I suppose this is my oversight, never believed I would need to have you own a formal set of dining clothes," said Odalia. "But I guess this'll have to do on short notice. Come along everyone, let's not keep the Emperor waiting any longer than we must."
The Blights and Luz exited the mansion and loaded onto the airship the Golden Guard and his Coven Scouts were manning. Skara, Willow, and Gus were sent back home, with the promise of discussing the events of today tomorrow. Now high in the air, they could hear the music coming from the celebration as God Griffons and God Rocs flew through the skies. Fireworks were going off in the skies as well, but thankfully they were flying around the town to prevent getting blown out of the air by a stray one.
"Will Mr. Blight not be joining us, Mrs. Blight?" the Golden Guard inquired.
"Sorry, but no he won't. Alador, my husband, is still hard at work at our factory. My eldest children and I were the only ones who could break away to return to the mansion," Odalia answered. "And with your sudden arrival, I didn't want to make the Emperor wait too longer than need be."
"Mmm, understandable," said the Golden Guard as he nodded his head.
After a few minutes flight time, the airship arrived at the palace, and descended onto the plateau. The Blights and Luz waited on the other side as the bridge extended outwards and connected to their side. On the bridge was Head Witch Lilith, who bowed to the witches and human. "Good afternoon, honored guests. Please follow me to the dining hall. Golden Guard, the Emperor would like you to return to his side."
The Golden Guard broke out an artificial staff, and answered, "At once."
The Blights and Luz watched as the Golden Guard transformed into red light and zipped towards palace ahead of them. Once he was gone, the Blights and Luz got onto the extending bridge, and from there, the bridge retracted to bring them to other side. As they awaited their arrival, Head Witch Lilith glanced over her shoulder at the two youngest members of the group, and slightly turned her body towards them.
"Before we arrive, I'd like to apologize to the two of you personally. I should've curbed my colleague's behavior sooner before it escalated to that level," Lilith apologized.
"It's…well…I won't say it was 'okay', but I understand the position you were in, Master Lilith," Amity replied. "And I apologize as well for that situation happening at all. A certain 'friend' of mine later admitted she was responsible for Luz stumbling into the royals."
Emira and Edric scowled since they knew who exactly it was, but Odalia was sweating a little considering that now that the Emperor had invited them to this banquet, it kind of validated what her daughter and Skara had said about Boscha. She didn't know how to address this with the Barbtalone family, but she was going to have to in some way.
Lilith shifted her gaze from Amity directly to Luz, which made the human teen flinch.
"If Edalyn knew I let that happen and did nothing, I am certain she would have my head on a silver platter," Lilith commented.
Luz rubbed the back of her head as she chuckled a little. "Probably would, can't lie about that. If I know Eda, she would definitely break through the castle and fight you directly."
Lilith smirked and replied, "Oh, I don't doubt that."
Amity raised an eyebrow and asked, "I'm sorry, but Master Lilith, do you…do you know Luz?"
"Indirectly, yes. My sister, Edalyn, or as she's more infamously known, Eda the Owl Lady, was apparently Luz's godmother," Lilith answered.
"W-W-Wait! Luz, you know Head Witch Lilith?!" Amity asked.
"Not really. Again, I know her indirectly through Eda, but how do you know about me?" Luz asked.
"Despite our animosity, Edalyn did – from time to time – write me a letter or two speaking of her current goings on. In most of those letters, she mentioned becoming the godmother of her friend's, Camila Noceda's, daughter, Luz Noceda. I didn't know what you looked like until the Catastrophe was over. There were a lot of families that were destroyed during that time, and a long list of orphaned children. Your name stood out to me and that was the first time I saw your face. You do look like your mother."
Luz had to bite the inside of her lip to stop herself from crying. "You…You knew my mom?"
"Not personally like Edalyn. I had the chance to briefly interact with her. She seemed like a more levelheaded woman. How my sister befriended her is anyone's guess. I'm sure you harbor some resentment towards me now. For not coming to your aid when you needed it most," said Lilith.
"…Honestly, I don't. I mean, I knew of you, but we never really interacted. Mom never talked about you either. And you aren't my godmother, so it's not as if you had any obligation to come and adopt me or anything," said Luz. "Despite the fact that I am a slave in service to the Blights, compared to how things might've been had I stayed in the orphanage, this was best outcome for me. For more than one reason."
Amity smiled, and so did Edric and Emira.
"I see, I am at least relieved to hear that your life – despite your station – hasn't been filled with much more hardship. And judging from the level of concern your young master showed, and the pain in her eyes when inflicting those wounds upon you, I can tell you are cared for by your masters," Lilith observed.
Odalia sweated a little as she remembered all the times she was harsh to Luz, and all the times she was critical of her. And now she just found out that her slave had some relation to the Head Witch of the Emperor's Coven, her daughter's master, and future employer. Had Odalia knew beforehand she would've officially adopted Luz into their family instead of making her a servant. It was too late for that now, but at least Head Witch Lilith recognized that Luz was well cared for at the least.
"Of course, when my daughter told me of Luz's troubles, it was my idea to bring her into our house and save her the hardships of being an orphaned child," said Odalia. "I know we should've adopted, but it was much easier this way."
Edric, Emira, and Amity deadpanned at their mother as all three of them thought in unison, "Kiss ass."
Luz only sighed, she could've easily exposed Odalia's harsh treatment over the years, but there had been enough drama today, so she wasn't up to causing anymore of it. "By the way, Head Witch Lilith…have you…do you know if Eda's…?"
Lilith's expression became neutral, but Luz could see the smallest hint of concern in her eyes. "Unfortunately, at this time, I can neither confirm nor deny my sister's death. Her body was never discovered, but that is a bit of a moot point considering the destruction the Khaotic caused. So, as it stands, I'm just as clueless as you are if she is alive or dead. But please, try and look forward to what is to come. You and your household are about to experience the rare privilege of dining with not only his majesty, but the visiting royals."
Luz was hoping to get some information on Eda, good or bad, but she gained some comfort in knowing that she wasn't the only one in the dark. And that she also kinda-sorta had a god-aunt?
Lilith led the group further into the castle, passing by portraits of and stain glass windows depicting the accomplishments of the emperors of old, as well as the current Emperor Belos. The group of five arrived at a pair of large double doors, and once there, the door was pushed open via two Coven Scouts revealing the inside. The dining hall was massive, with a special round dinner table that was made nice and large to accommodate the royals and their various entourages. As soon as the doors opened, all eyes were on them. Making the Blights, and even Luz, straighten their backs.
"My Emperor, I would like to present to you the members of House Blight. Presenting Odalia Blight, Emira Blight, Edric Blight, Amity Blight, and one Luz Noceda," Lilith announced.
Emperor Belos slowly rose from his seat and opened his arms towards them. "Aw, there we are. Please, take a seat, and join us."
"Thank you, My Emperor," the Blights and Luz responded.
Lilith brought them to an arrangement of four seats, close to the Emperor's right no less. The Golden Guard was standing behind Emperor Belos's seat on the right side, and after being led to their seats, Lilith took her place on the left side of the Emperor.
"Before we begin, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to you, Luz Noceda, and to that of your house, Mrs. Blight," Belos apologized. "Rest assured that my subordinate will be severely reprimanded for her actions today. The Four Kingdom Alliance Celebration is to be just that, a celebration. A time for merriment and goodwill. To have it marred by such a violent event, and in front of our esteemed guests, no less, is quite unseemly."
Odalia bowed her head slightly and quickly said, "We thank you, My Emperor, especially for the great honor of being able to dine with the kings and yourself."
The others didn't know why exactly, but for some reason they felt like they didn't like her very much.
"Well now, let us all eat." Belos snapped his fingers, and a number of dishes came floating into the dining hall and landed before each of the royals and their entourages. There were even some already prepared for Luz and the Blights. "Now, please, enjoy your meals."
Everyone began digging into their prepared meals. Those who were from Amphibia and the Boiling Isles were quite used to eating foods of their native land. Which meant, insect dishes, and the Boiling Isles own brand of food, were actually easily consumed and digested by the humans who grew up and lived in each land. However, those like Molly and her friends, and Lunella and Casey, were not used to such foods. Thankfully their dishes were prepared with that thought in mind, still, it was a little unnerving to see a human eat a tenacle like Luz was, or for Anne to be digging into the head of a large insect. Half of Molly's lineage may've come from Amphibia, but even she wasn't used to those insect-based foods.
As a means of distraction, Molly cleared her throat and said, "You're looking well, um, Luz was it?"
Luz looked up and met the eyes of Queen Molly, remembering that it was her ghost friend who delivered the Panacea Potion to them. "Oh, uh, yes! Thank you, Queen Molly. I received great medical care thanks to Amity getting me to the hospital swiftly."
Molly smiled and so did Lunella, Anne, and their friends.
"Good to hear, dude," said Anne.
"Oh…and, King Anne, I am so sorry for…well, you know," said Luz with a blush.
"Heh, yeah, that was definitely embarrassing, but still an accident. Just don't let it happen again," Anne joked.
"Y-Yes! For sure," Luz replied.
Sasha and Marcy, although they knew it was an accident, were still a little perturbed that some random girl touched Anne like that.
I wanted to be the first one to do that, Sasha and Marcy thought at the same time.
"So, how does one become a slave?" Lunella asked.
"PFFFFFFTTT!" Casey spat out her drink, "LUNELLA!"
"What I'm curious. I know slavery is legal here in the Boiling Isles. But you also have laws that protect the people who do become slaves, I looked into it a while back, but this is the first time I've met someone who was actually one," said Lunella.
"Uh…ahem, well, your majesty. My youngest daughter made me aware of Luz's plight. She is an orphan, a casualty of the Catastrophe like many others. It was also my daughter who found her, or rather, they ended up in the same shelter when we were separated after the event, and after she informed me of Luz's situation, we decided to take her in under the slave laws," Odalia explained.
"Huh, why not adopt her instead?" Lunella questioned.
"The current laws are…stringent when it comes to nonhuman families adopting a human into their household," Emperor Belos explained. "It's to prevent my human subjects from being taken advantage of by witches and demons. As you know, humans are unable to perform magic without the aid of an artificial wand or staff, due in part to not possessing a bile sac which facilitates the ability to cast spells naturally. With this disadvantage, witch and demon families who do not have the best of intentions could end up taking in defenseless humans."
"Makes sense, but couldn't that also happen under the slave laws as well? Compared to being legally adopted, being a slave just makes them your servant, like Luz here. And in that case, couldn't the one who bought the person be able to do whatever they want?" Lunella further questioned.
"W-We take great care of Luz, I assure you, Scientist Supreme. Although Luz is a slave in servitude to our house, she is treated quite well! I-I can't speak for other witch houses, but she hasn't been mistreated. My eldest children treat her like a member of the family, and my youngest treats her with respect, like a colleague," Odalia clarified.
Edric and Emira smirked a little, knowing that description wasn't quite accurate.
"If I may, your highness," Amity interjected. "The laws still protect the slave. Masters are not allowed to harm their slaves without just reason. Any punishment dealt to a slave is to be non-life threatening but must also not be cruel and/or unusual. In addition, if a slave is killed by their master, they are subject to immediate investigation. Murder is still murder, whether a person is a slave or not. At the time, given the mayhem the Khaotic caused, this was the best option in order to get Luz out of the orphanage, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to continue her schooling, nor have a steady income, or more than adequate shelter."
"So, you're saying you see it as 'saving' her then?" Lunella clarified.
Amity glanced at Luz. More like she saved me, she thought.
"I just felt that it was unfair for someone as hardworking and…optimistic…as Luz to have been subjected to losing more and more each day." Amity had an idea at that moment as she smiled a little. "In fact, Luz is actually studying to learn all nine magic types."
Luz, Odalia, and the twins' eyes widened. The human teen witch gave Amity a look that translated to, "WHAT ARE YOU SAYING IN FRONT OF THE EMPEROR?!"
"Luz aspires to be part of the Emperor's Coven as matter of fact. I have already qualified, and will be joining your ranks after graduation, and under the tutelage of Head Witch Lilith," Amity further elaborated.
"Wait," Marcy spoke up. "I read about the Coven System, aren't you only allowed to study one type of magic and whichever one you've chosen, upon graduation, you receive a Coven Sigil which locks you into that magic type?"
Luz rubbed the back of her head nervously. "I-I've always been known for doing things differently…but it is true I was trying out for the Emperor's Coven. Even though I know no humans have ever become a member."
Belos regarded the young human for a moment, and said, "Maybe that needs to change."
The Blights and Luz's jaws dropped when they looked at Belos.
"My Emperor?" Lilith inquired.
"Considering the events of today, it's unlikely that no one has heard about it by now. This will cause unease among our citizenry, most notably our human citizens, and the witches and demons who advocate for them." Belos rose from his chair and began walking around the table towards where Luz and the Blights were sitting. "It is true that there has never been a human among the ranks of my Coven. Humans hold different positions in different Covens throughout the isles, but never in mine."
Belos stopped and stood next to Luz as he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Luz Noceda, how would you like to join the Emperor's Coven alongside your young mistress?"
Luz tried to form a coherent sentence, but it all came out as gibberish. She couldn't believe this was happening, the Emperor himself was extending an invitation to join the Emperor's Coven and join Amity in that Coven. Even Amity was at a loss for words, she never thought this could happen, she had been dreading what would become of Luz come graduation, but now, all that just changed.
"I…I would be honored to join!" Luz exclaimed in joy. "Thank you, My Emperor!"
"Do not thank me just yet. While I am inviting you into my Coven, you will be going through the same basic training all new recruits do. And whether or not you succeed will be determined by you, Luz Noceda," Belos informed.
Sasha wasn't buying it, she could see Belos's offer for what it was. A PR stunt.
Not bad, Emperor Belos. To avoid your human subjects from raising hell about what happened to that girl, you're going to elevate her and let her achieve a position in your most prestigious Coven, the first human ever to join its rank. Not bad at all, Sasha thought.
Lunella chuckled, apparently she could see it for what it was, but decided to leave it alone. "Okay, so, with that out of the way. I have an announcement." The Scientist Supreme rose from her chair and looked everyone in eyes before saying, "I believe I found a way to wake up God Dragon, and thereby, reviving King-Ohger!"
"SERIOUSLY?!" Anne yelled as she bolted out her seat.
"No way, you mean we can actually summon him?!" Molly asked as she, too, rose from her chair.
Emperor Belos removed his hand from Luz's shoulder and gave Lunella his undivided attention. "That is quite the bold claim, Scientist Supreme. God Dragon has been locked in stone slumber for centuries. Not even I as the rightful ruler have been able to awaken him, nor have the emperors before me. I am curious to know why you believe you will succeed where so many have failed?"
Lunella pushed her glasses up and answered, "No disrespect, Emperor Belos, but you've been looking at this from a magical perspective. I've been looking at it from a scientific perspective. At the end of the day, the Shugods are just super advanced artificial intelligence, and like any machine, they need the right command to get them back to operational order. I believe I've unlocked that command after studying not just God Tyranno, but other Shugods. If you'll permit me, we can go to the square in Bonesborough, and wake up the missing piece of our guardian."
Luz didn't know why, but she didn't particularly like the way Lunella said that. "Wait, you don't really mean that the Shugods are just machines, do you?"
"Living machines, but still machines when all's said and done," Lunella stated.
"Moon Girl – er – Scientist Supreme, you can't really believe that," said Luz with an irritated tone.
"Luz," Amity cautioned.
"The Shugods are just as alive as you and me. I've visited God Dragon's statue several times, and I've interacted with other wild Shugods myself. I don't believe that they're 'just machines', they're genuinely alive," Luz argued.
"Heh, look, I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes. You're free to believe what you want to believe; I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other. All I'm saying is I know how to wake up God Dragon. Whether you want to take that as proof that he's just a machine, or alive, it's up to you."
"Ahem, Lunella, maybe tone it down a little," Anne suggested.
"Ah-ha-aha. My, Luz is quite animated today. Please settle down now, Luz dear," Odalia requested with a restrained edge in her voice.
Luz stood up from her seat to match Lunella as she glared at her from across the table. "Are you seriously going to tell me that you never once believed that your Guardian Shugod, God Tyranno, was more than a machine?"
"Pssh, Devil has nothin' to do with this," Lunella retorted.
"Of course he does, God Tyranno watches over and fights to protect the people of Scientia and their Scientist Supreme, you! All the Guardian Shugods chose individuals who would rule Gaea! That's more than just being a machine, they made a conscious choice!"
"Either that or someone created a program with specific set of parameters for the Guardian Shugods to seek out and locate people who fit the criteria to be kings!"
"Oookay, I didn't think I'd see the day when someone was bold enough to argue with Scientist Supreme Lunella regarding one of her theories," said Andrea with awe and worry for Luz.
"I can understand how she feels, I don't think the Shugods are just machines," Libby quietly muttered.
Odalia was starting to sweat bullets, and to a degree, so was Amity. Although the incident earlier today was an accident, Luz was intentionally arguing with the smartest person in all of Gaea, the ruler of a nation, and right in front of the Emperor just after he offered to let her join the Emperor's Coven.
"Luz, sweet child, please stop arguing with the Scientist Supreme in front of the EMPEROR!" Odalia passive aggressively ordered.
"Luz, please, calm down, it's not worth it," Amity insisted.
Luz and Lunella continued to hold each other's gazes; both had narrowed eyes as neither one of the stubborn girls seemed to be willing to back down from this argument. Casey was having a nervous breakdown right now as well.
Oi, por el amor de Dios Tyranno, ¡por favor termina esta conversación (Oi, for the love of God Tyranno, please make this conversation end)! Casey begged.
Suddenly, several alarms started to blare all throughout the castle, including Lunella, Anne, and Molly's Kings Hotline. All three rulers whipped them out at the same time and saw the dreaded alert they had been praying would never come, and secretly hoped it would.
[Khaotic Detected. Location: Boiling Isles Empire.
Projected course: On route to Titan's Castle.]
"What's going on?!" Edric asked.
"…The Khaotic are attacking," said Emperor Belos. "Lilith, Golden Guard!"
"Yes, Sire?!" they responded.
"The detection system shows their trajectory to be the castle, and they'll have to cross through Bonesborough first to get here! Alert all Coven Precincts to begin evacuation to the shelters immediately! And have the Emperor's Coven, mobilize to intercept the enemy!" Emperor Belos ordered.
"By your command!" Lilith and the Golden Guard answered as they both ran out of the dining hall.
Molly, Lunella, and Anne all shared glances with each other. The time had come at last. Without a word, all three rulers unsheathed their Ohger Caliburs and began heading in the same direction as Lilith and the Golden Guard.
"Anne, wait!" Marcy and Sasha cried out.
"Lunella!" Casey called.
"Molly, wait, what are you guys doing?!" Andrea asked.
All three girls stopped and turned to face their friends.
"What we've been waiting to do," Lunella started.
"We're going to kick some Khaotic ass," said Anne.
"And save the lives of the people. You guys should hurry and leave before things get crazy," Molly finished.
Emperor Belos nodded his head and replied, "Go forth young rulers, I will join you once I have finished coordinating here!"
Anne, Molly, and Lunella nodded and ran off.
"The banquet is over, Mrs. Blight, given the situation, you and your family will take shelter here in the castle until this battle is over," said Belos.
"Thank you for your grace," Odalia uttered as she bowed.
"Scouts, take them to a shelter immediately, and afterwards, I want a progress report on the evacuation!"
Sasha looked to Marcy and said, "Thankfully I had some God Tentous on standby when we left. Marcy let's get into them and leave!"
"But what about Anne?!" Marcy asked.
"Let's face it," said Casey, "having us here will only make them worry. If we leave they'll be able to fight better."
"I hate to agree with Calderon, but she's right," Andrea agreed. "We stay, Molly and the others can't fight at full strength if they're wondering if we're safe. Libby, call the God Hummingbird."
"Already did!" Libby replied.
"Eh, what about you? You need a ride?" Scratch asked Casey.
"I got a ride coming in the form of a God Pterodactyl."
"I have your transports get to the upper landing, you can disembark from there," Emperor Belos suggested.
With that said, everyone hurried to their destinations as the attack commenced.
The three rulers made it outside and stood on the partially extended bridge. Once there, all three pressed down on the center of their swords' guards.
{SHUGOD!}
No sooner had they pressed on the center insignia did they hear the calls of their Guardian Shugods. There was furious stomping and roaring, fierce squeaks, and loud croaks as God Tyranno, God Kaeru, and God Coinín appeared. All three Guardian Shugods jumped over the plateau, with God Tyranno landing behind the rulers, while God Kaeru and God Coinín remained in the air.
"It's time for some payback you guys," said Anne.
"Definitely."
"Let's go."
All three rulers were immediately teleported into their individual Shugod. God Tyranno roared loudly into the air, crouched low, and then jumped straight into the air as a white glowing shockwave erupted from the jump. The dino Shugod cleared several yards in just one leap as he landed on the far side of the chasm. Once on solid ground, God Tyranno broke into a sprint, creating a trail of white light behind him. God Kaeru and God Coinín were hopping side by side, keeping pace with the white t-rex mecha. All three Guardian Shugods arrived at Bonesborough, but the battle had already commenced. Jester Khaotics were already attacking the citizens, while the Coven Scouts were doing their best to fight back and keep them at bay long enough for the citizens to get to safety.
Flashes of azure, white, and yellow went off, gaining the attention of the Jester Khaotics and Coven Scouts alike. When the lights faded, it revealed Anne, Molly, and Lunella, swords in hand.
Anne raised her Ohger Calibur and bopped the frog foot end of the sword's guard.
{'Kay You!}
Molly flicked the rabbit ears on her sword's guard.
{Coin In!}
And Lunella bopped the t-rex head of the guard.
{Tyrant No!}
"ROYAL ARMS!"
"ROYAL ARMS!"
"ROYAL ARMS!"
All three hit the center of their guards and were incased in an amber crystal. God Tyranno, Kaeru, and Coinín glowed for a moment before launching sparkling energy construct copies of themselves from their bodies.
{You are the king! You are the – YOU~ ARE~ THE KING~!}
The constructs charged directly for their individual rulers, and upon contact, shattered the amber cocoons and revealed the three rulers in their armor.
{Kaeru Ohger!}
{Coinín Ohger!}
{Tyranno Ohger!}
The Jester Khaotic automatically shifted their attention right to the three kings standing before them, ignoring the Coven Scouts in favor of killing the more prominent threat before them. The three rulers didn't waste anytime as they broke off in three directions and began their assault.
Molly ran towards a group of Jester Khaotics as they each produced a glowing obsidian dagger. The Jester Khaotics tossed their daggers at her, littering the air before her with the weapons. However, Molly held out her left hand and summoned her Kings Weapon, shield that was colored gold, black, and silver. With the weapon in hand, Molly raised it and used it to block the daggers that were coming her way. Each of the daggers exploded against her shield, and around her, kicking up a dust cloud which obscured Molly from view. The Jester Khaotics stopped their attack, wondering if they had killed her.
They were gravely mistaken as several arrows of yellow light punched through the dust cloud and pierced multiple Jester Khaotics, causing them to explode immediately after getting hit. With the smoke cleared, they were able to see that Molly had shifted the Kings Weapon into it bow and arrow mode. Two blades came out of the sides of the Kings Weapon, acting as the bow arms. A beam of yellow light was formed on the tips of both blades that acted as the bowstring, allowing her to shoot bolts of yellow energy in the form of powerful, piercing arrows. Molly let loose another volley of arrows before switching it back to shield mode and dashing for the monsters. More of the Jester Khaotics exploded as Molly shield bashed one of them and swung her sword upwards. Black blood painted the air as the Jester Khaotic she hit fell to the ground before exploding a moment later. Two more extended their limbs out towards her, trying to ensnare the queen.
Molly saw this coming and easily jumped up and out of the way as their arms crisscrossed each other. Seeing her opening, Molly plummeted down with her sword and stabbed it straight through the stone road, pinning all four arms to the ground which caused the two Jester Khaotics to screech in pain. From there, Molly shifted the Kings Weapon back to its bow and arrow mode and sniped more of the Jester Khaotics that were around her. There were three that were about to attack a family, but Molly easily sniped them from her position. The family waved their thanks to her before running to safety. Molly decided the two she had pinned had suffered enough, so she shot the first Jester Khaotic on her right, before swiftly turning around piercing the heart of the one on her left. Once both had exploded from existence, Molly switched the Kings Weapon back to shield mode, took up her Ohger Calibur and charged for another group.
Meanwhile, Lunella had switched her Kings Weapon into its blaster mode. She dashed towards some Jester Khaotics as they launched their clawed hands at her, extending their long arms in her direction. But Lunella pulled the trigger and fired off several bright white energy blasts from the spike tip at the bottom of the shield. Each of the blasts exploded when they hit the monster's limbs, but some managed to get through. However, before they could ensnare her, Lunella took a powerful step forward, launching herself directly through the gap between the extending arms. She threaded the needle, passing through the gap and hitting the ground on the other side. Lunella rolled across the ground before coming to a skidding stop behind two of the four Jester Khaotics. Once there, Lunella slashed the monster in the back, leaving a glowing white streak in the wake of her slashes. The other two Jester Khaotic just now noticed their comrades falling and turned around to attack.
The first Jester Khaotic paused, because when it turned around, Lunella was pointing the Kings Weapon in its face.
"Bang."
Lunella pulled the trigger and fired a shot point blank in the Jester Khaotic's face. The second Jester Khaotic hurriedly produced two obsidian short swords from its sleeves and readied to cut her down. Lunella batted the two blades away with her Ohger Calibur, creating loud clangs that rang through the air. The Scientist Supreme flipped her sword around, putting it into a reverse grip position, before spinning on her heel and slashing once, twice, three times, five times, seven times. Each slash was proceeded by a streak of white light, sending sparks into the air before she stopped, pointed the Kings Weapon, and fired a single shot the pierced the monster through its chest and caused it to explode.
The Scientist Supreme rose to her feet and surveyed that there were still more Jester Khaotics, but she was not the least bit concerned by it as she flipped the Ohger Calibur around to its original position and had the blade rest on her right shoulder. "Come and get some you sorry excuse for clowns!"
In another part of the town, Anne was culling through several Jester Khaotic herself. The blades of her Kings Weapon were positioned upwards at the top of the shield, forming a single blade for its sword mode, and giving the Woman King a second blade with which to cut down the monsters before her. Anne was quick as she was strong, streaks of azure light lit up the area as Anne slashed one Jester Khaotic after the other. She came to a stop, holding her Ohger Calibur in her right hand and the Kings Weapon in the left. Several Jester Khaotics were behind her, and in the next moment, all of them exploded right where they stood.
"I'll have to thank Sash later for teaching me how to dual wield," said Anne to herself.
One Jester Khaotic attacked her from the left, but she blocked it. At the same time, another attacked from the right, but Anne managed to block that one as well. Then that's when two more attacked from the front and back, their obsidian short swords poised to skewer the Woman King straight through. Anne narrowed her gaze behind her helmet, crouched low, and jumped straight into the air, abandoning her sword and shield. In doing so, the two incoming Jester Khaotics were unable to stop their forward momentum and ended up stabbing each other.
Anne rapidly descended from the air and came down with a powerful ax kick to one of the monster's head. She drove that same kick all the way, slamming the Jester Khaotic's head straight into the stone road, creating a hole for it, and making it do an impression of an ostrich. Anne swiftly moved to the fourth, hitting it in the chest with an elbow strike. A small shockwave erupted behind the Jester Khaotic as it released a grunt of pain. Anne began boxing the monster, throwing jabs, straights, uppercuts, and hooks, before grabbing its head with both hands and driving her right knee into its face. The monster reeled and stumbled backwards as its face erupted with pain. About twenty more Jester Khaotic started to approach Anne, but she didn't flinch.
Anne hooked her Ohger Calibur with her right foot and kicked it up into the air. The monsters used this as a chance to attack as they took out their obsidian short swords and dashed towards her. However, as the Ohger Calibur flipped around in the air, Anne used her left foot to kick the Kings Weapon up as well. With her left hand she caught the shield-sword and flipped it around so that the blades were pointed down. The Ohger Calibur was now falling, flipping tip over pummel as it descended towards Anne. The Jester Khaotics were about to reach her, but at that moment, Anne raised the Kings Weapon into the air just as the pommel of the sword pointed towards it. The two parts connected, activating the naginata mode of the combined weapons.
The Woman King used her right hand to press down on the jewel in the center of the weapon before she gripped the combined weapon with both hands, charging both blades with azure energy before spinning around in a circle just as the Jester Khaotics closed in.
{OHGER SLASH!}
Anne suddenly stopped spinning and swiped her dual sided weapon in a wide arch. The result created a ring of azure light that shot out in all directions. The ring sliced through all twenty of the Jester Khaotics just as they were about to cut Anne and turned and set off a chain of explosions around her. Anne rose to her feet, and that's when Lunella and Molly joined her.
"They're persistent as hell," said Lunella.
"Doesn't matter, we're taking them all down," Anne stated.
"Uh, guys, look!" Molly exclaimed as she pointed her sword towards the air.
Anne and Lunella turned their attention towards the sky, and that's when they beheld a projected image. The being had a humanoid form and was clad in gold plated leather-like armor. He had a violet cape that fluttered in the wind, and his face a deathly pale white color, which contrasted greatly against his blood red eyes. Upon his head was a golden helm, with two curved horns coming out from it, and a mess of stringy black hair coming out from the sides and back of the helmet.
"Greetings to you, creatures of Gaea, or more specifically, the Boiling Isles Empire. My name is Loki the Trickster, one of the four Khaotic Kings."
"So, they do have some kind of command structure," Lunella noted.
"I know you mortals have been enjoying this little sabbatical of ours since our first emergence in over two-thousand years. We arrived with a BANG the first time, but I guess you can say we overextended ourselves a bit. I mean, can you blame us? Centuries of being sealed away, with nothing to do but bide our time, of course we're going to be a little lethargic. But we had fun nonetheless, heh-ha-ha!"
Anne tightened her grip on her sword and gritted her teeth behind her helmet. "You call slaughtering all our families 'FUN'?!"
"Don't really think he can hear us, Anne," Molly pointed out.
"Do I look like give a flying flip?!"
"But I digress, today was meant to be a day of celebration for you all. I for one love celebrations! So, let's all celebrate together! A celebration for the end of the Boiling Isles Empire, and the four kings who foolishly think they can stand against us! Now, rise my child! SKÖLL!"
The ground began to rumble and shake. Fissures formed, all leading towards the epicenter on the outskirts of Bonesborough. Flames spewed from the fissures as a pillar of flames broke through the earth. From that hole, a creature crawled its way out. The ground trembled with each movement of the beast before its body was fully exposed and stood up for all to see.
Its fur was an angry orange-red color, with yellow eyes. It stood on two legs that were lupine in both looks and functionality. The creature's body was rippling with muscles, with black colored claws on each of its five fingers, and four toes. Black spikes protruded from the monster's back, running the length of its spine and stopping at the base of its fire tail. Each of the monster's elbows had long black spikes growing from them, around its chest were two leather-like straps that crossed to form an "X", and at the center of the "X" was the insignia of Sköll's Khaotic faction. The monster's head resembled a wolf's head, but at the top of its head were small curved black horns. In its right hand was a gnarled piece of black stone that had been crudely shaped into a sword, while its right forearm was wrapped in a thick gold-plated bracer. The beast's name was Sköll the Sun Eater.
"You have got to be froggin' kidding me!" Anne cursed.
"W-What do we do now?! I don't think Judy can fight something that big!" Molly shouted.
"Same with Lily, I don't think any of our Shugods can."
"Heh," Lunella chuckled. "Maybe not individually. But King-Ohger can."
Anne and Molly looked at Lunella, just now remembering the Scientist Supreme's earlier declaration that she had the means to revive God Dragon and reform the fabled guardian of Gaea.
"Are you sure it'll work?" Anne asked.
"Tch, you do know who you're talking to, right?"
"Okay, hurry!" Molly urged.
"DEVIL!" Lunella called.
God Tyranno roared and as he jumped into the air and landed right behind the three rulers. A flash of white light went off as Lunella was teleported into the cockpit of God Tyranno. The Guardian Shugod turned around and stomped his way towards the center of the town. The t-rex mech came to a skidding stop as it now stood before the stone statue of God Dragon, and despite the goings on, the main component to awakening King-Ohger still slumbered.
"You've been asleep long enough, big guy! Time to wake up and fight!" Lunella raised her Ohger Calibur smirked and pressed on the center insignia on the guard. However, nothing happened. "What?"
Lunella pressed it again, but God Dragon did not respond.
"No…No way! This isn't happening! I know I cracked it!" Lunella furiously kept pressing the button, but nothing happened. God Dragon was not responding at all. "No, no, no, no, NO! I didn't overlook anything! I cracked the code! So, why aren't you moving! C'mon, c'mon!"
Molly and Anne watched from a distance as Lunella seemed to be having trouble, but unfortunately, they had other problems to deal with. The Jester Khaotics were regrouping, possibly reinvigorated by the appearance of Sköll, and – so far – the failure of Lunella to wake God Dragon. The giant monster howled into the air and thrusted its stone sword into the sky. Multiple fireballs began to form in the air above Sköll, and then, with a fling of its sword, Sköll launched the fireballs, raining them down across the town with a few of them heading towards the palace.
"This way! Keep calm and don't panic!" The Coven Scouts ordered.
Luz and the Blights were currently being led to a separate area for shelter, although the palace was well protected, fortified with magic, and built to withstand prolonged sieges, it was still best to have everyone in designated safe areas.
Amity was sticking close to Luz, hearing that the Khaotic returned had triggered her memories of the day Luz lost her mother. Thankfully, she was able to urge Luz forward, keeping their hands held together as the two trailed behind Edric, Emira, and Odalia.
"Are you okay?" Amity asked.
"Not really. It's been four years, and now the Khaotic come back again?!" Luz exclaimed.
"It'll be alright, the three kings are on it, and Emperor Belos will be joining the fight soon! And if the Scientist Supreme is right about her claims, then King-Ohger will wake up and then the Khaotics' days will be numbered!"
Luz certainly hoped that was the case, personally, she wished she could fight alongside the kings. She had the power to harm them, but her mother made her promise to never reveal the glyph magic to anyone other than Eda. And Eda was gone now, nowhere to be found. Luz glanced towards the windows, hoping that she might spot King-Ohger rising by now, however, that hope was snuffed out when she heard a booming howl echo in the distance. Everyone stopped running, pausing to hear the menacing howl as it reverberated within the chasm where the palace was stationed. That's when Luz spotted something glowing in the distance, something that was steadily getting bigger and bigger. A sense of danger rose within Luz, and that's when she saw what it was, a huge fireball.
"AMITY, MOVE!" Luz yelled.
The human teen swiftly took out her wand, drew a spell circle, and released a force wave that blasted Amity, Edric, Emira, and Odalia away from her. The last thing Luz saw was Amity's shocked face as a huge fireball struck the side of the palace and exploded. Debris was flung in all directions, and the explosion itself threw Luz back down the way she came. The teen rolled along the floor for several seconds before crashing, back first, against the wall. Luz coughed from having the wind knocked out of her for a second. But it wasn't over as she realized her chest was hot, that's when she spotted that some of the embers from the fireball had set her vest on fire.
"AAAH!" Luz screamed as she quickly took off the vest and threw it to the floor. Thankfully, the rest of her clothes remained mostly unscathed aside from some dust, and even better, her witch's cloak was undamaged. In fact, there wasn't a scratch on it. "Wow, this is one strong witch's cloak. Wait. Amity! Oh cramity!"
Luz turned her attention back towards the hallway and frowned when she saw that the hallway where she once stood had collapsed on itself, completely cutting her off from the other side. She quickly looked around and spotted her wand on the floor, thankfully it was undamaged. After picking it up, Luz's Scroll began to ring. She quickly took it out and was relieved to see Amity's face.
{LUZ! Are you alright?!}
"I'm fine, how are you guys?!" Luz asked.
{If you hadn't cast that spell, we would've all been dead, but dammit, don't you dare do that again!} Amity scolded.
"Sorry, I just acted without thinking. Although now it looks like I'm cut off from you."
{Miss, can you hear me?} The Coven Scout asked. {There is a way for you to rejoin us. You'll have to backtrack the way we came. Find the throne room, and from there, head down the left corridor, then make a right after. We'll meet up with you there!}
{Luz, be safe.}
{We'll see you soon,} Edric and Emira replied.
{Can we please get a move on?! What if another one of those fireballs hits us?! We're sitting ducks here!}
Your concern is heartwarming, Odalia, Luz thought.
"Be careful, and I'll see you soon."
Luz ended the video call and hurried back the way she came. She ran into the dining hall, and once there, she ran through the doors that they originally entered through. It was then that Luz came to a halt realized something.
"Oh…God Titan…I don't know where the throne room is!" Luz shouted in a panic. "Okay, calm down, Luz. There's no reason to panic. I'll just find a sign!" Luz looked around the hallway and deadpanned. "Right…why would they label where the throne room is and make it easier for assassins to find the Emperor. C'mon, Luz, think, think!"
Luz paced the floor back and forth for a good minute and a half before she stopped.
"That's it! The Emperor's throne room has the beating heart of God Titan hanging about the throne! I just need to listen for the heart!"
Luz took out her wand and drew a yellow-colored spell circle. With a flick of her wrist, the spell circle split in two and flew towards her ears. Both of Luz's ears started to glow as she closed her eyes and listened closely.
*Ba-thump!*
Luz tilted her head a little.
*Ba-thump!*
"Yes! I knew learning that hearing enhancement spell would come in handy!"
Now that she had an idea of where to go, Luz followed the sounds of God Titan's heartbeat. She had to move carefully, as the halls of the castle made it slightly difficult to pinpoint the location of the heart, but Luz was determined to reunite with Amity. After a couple of minutes, Luz found the right hallway and ran down it. The heartbeats were getting louder and louder as she got closer, which forced Luz to weaken the spell or risk the beats splitting her skull open. After the adjustment she proceeded onwards. Another minute passed and Luz found herself at the cross section of the four different corridors.
"He said to take the left one, and then follow it down and turn right. Okay–!"
"This was not what we agreed upon."
Luz paused; she heard a voice.
"You're right, Belos, it isn't. But there is one thing you forgot…"
"Belos? The Emperor? But who's that?" Luz figured he might be talking to someone regarding the attack, if so, it was none of her business.
"The Khaotic do as they please."
Luz swiftly turned to her right. Was Emperor Belos talking to one of the Khaotic? If so, they might've trapped him.
I know the Emperor is powerful, but I know for certain my glyph magic can hurt them, thought Luz.
Deciding to go protect the Emperor, Luz rushed towards the large pair of doors. Thankfully they were cracked open, just enough for Luz to see inside. She dispelled the hearing enhancement spell and readied her wand to attack. Luz didn't know what kind of foe the Emperor was facing inside, so she needed variety just in case. Luz inched closer to the door, pushing on the door just enough to allow her to see inside, but it wasn't just what she saw that shocked her, it was what she heard next.
"You can only do as you please now because I broke your seal! If I hadn't, you'd all still be rotting away in your prison for the next thousand years or more," Emperor Belos argued.
W-What did he say…?
"And we do humbly thank you for that, Belos," said Loki as he gave a dramatic bow. "But, as stated before, we didn't agree to anything. There's a reason why I was put in charge of negotiations. You mortals think you're so smart, until you realize you're not. Now, if I remember correctly, our 'agreement' was in exchange for our release, we were to aid you in subsequent cleansing of this world. Am I right?"
Belos sneered. "Yes, that was our agreement. And thus, I broke the seal that imprisoned you four years ago!"
Luz had to slap her left hand over her mouth to stifle a gasp. Emperor Belos had just confessed to being the one who released the Khaotic into the world, he was responsible for the Catastrophe, the same even that killed her mother and father.
"Indeed, but then again, you made that deal with me. And I am a notorious when it comes to deceiving those around me," Loki mocked as he chuckled haughtily. "Your hubris is about to be the undoing of your whole kingdom! AHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, I do love how you mortals are so easily fooled. You'd think it'd be tiresome after the millionth time, but nope! Now, Belos, watch as everything around you burns…"
Luz watched as Loki disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving the two of them alone.
"RRRRAAAAAAUGH! Damn you Loki!" Belos grunted and growled for a couple of moments before regaining his composure. "I had a feeling this might happen, but still…"
"It's not true…is it…?"
Belos quickly turned his head towards the throne room doors and spotted Luz Noceda slowly approaching him, wand raised and pointed directly at him. "Miss Noceda, did you happen to hear all of that?"
"Tell me it isn't true…! Tell me you really didn't help the Khaotic break free four years ago! What you said, it was just a lie, right? You were trying to deceive that monster, that's all it was, right?" Luz asked.
The Emperor of the Boiling Isles turned his whole body to face Luz, his eyes glowed blue behind his mask as he stood up straight and answered her. "It isn't a lie, Luz Noceda. I am the one responsible for breaking the seal that kept the Khaotic at bay and began the Catastrophe."
Luz shook her head as tears started to stream down her face. "Why…? WHY?! SO MANY PEOPLE DIED DURING THE CATASTROPHE! So many…lives were lost…INCLUDING MY MAMÁ AND PAPÁ! TELL ME! I DESERVE TO KNOW WHY YOU KILLED MY PARENTS!"
Belos sighed heavily and answered, "You may not believe me, but I truly do lament the loss of life that day. The number of human lives that were lost, I wished such a toll didn't have to be taken, but it is a sacrifice that needed to be made to cleanse this world."
"'Cleanse', you said that to that thing before! Cleanse what?!" Luz demanded.
"Why, the creatures who dare to claim this world as their home. Witches, demons, fae, spirits, Amphibians, they are unnatural beings, Luz. They do not belong in this world."
Luz's fury was replaced by utter confusion. She could not have heard him right, Emperor Belos wanted to cleanse the world of the everyone that was not human? "I…I don't understand, you want to get rid of everyone that isn't human? That…I…It doesn't make sense!"
"Oh, it does, my dear. All those unnatural beings, they don't belong here. It is their presence that invites the Khaotic. Look at yourself, look at all your kind. Humans are at a disadvantage compared to the other species. You yourself are a product of that unfair system, being treated as a slave by that witch family. And not just you, others like you as well."
"Then change the laws! You're the Emperor! You can do whatever you want! You can make it so that those laws never existed!" Luz argued.
"I can, and I could. But it doesn't eliminate the overall problem now does it?"
Luz pressed her left hand against her head, trying to make sense of Belos's reasoning for waking the Khaotic. "It…It doesn't make sense! Y-You're a witch! Cleansing the world of every nonhuman includes you too! I don't understand, why do you hate yourself so much?!"
Belos shook his head. "Miss Noceda, there is much you don't know about me, and much you don't know about the world we live in. To that end…" Belos opened his cloak and raised his right hand. The tip of his index finger glowed red, and at the same time, a red aura wrapped around Luz's wand. With a flick of that hand, the wand was wrenched free of Luz's hand, and with another flick, the wand was snapped in two. "There, now we can have a more civil conversation without wands being drawn."
Luz was panicking, she was in front of the most powerful witch in the Boiling Isles, and her wand had just been destroyed. "So…are you going to kill me now? I know your secret, there's no way leaving me alive is good for your plan."
Belos rubbed the area where his chin was and hummed in contemplation. "I could, it would be very easy to do so considering the current situation. However, I have kept this secret for a long time, and if I am to reestablish human order, then I will need competent and strong humans to lead the new era." Belos raised his head and looked directly at Luz. "Luz Noceda, would like to be my new righthand?"
"What…?"
The Emperor started walking towards Luz. "As I said, the new world order of human supremacy that I am striving towards is in need of competent and strong humans like yourself. And the humans who survive the coming hardships will need someone they can look to, someone who can give them hope. You, Luz, could be that beacon, could be that symbol of hope for humanity."
Luz's mind was racing, Belos was offering her a place in whatever crazy plan he had. The fact that he was telling her these things was proof that he was seeking allies, human allies. While she didn't understand why a witch would have such self-loathing and hate for themselves as to wish for the genocide of not just his species, but all nonhumans all over Gaea, was too much to fathom.
"The creatures of this world, they are unnatural, they invite otherworldly beings like the Khaotic, and disrupt the natural order of the world. Once they have been cleansed from this world, humanity can truly flourish. Just look at Scientia, the population is mainly comprised of humans, and see what wonders they can create on their own without interference from those creatures?" Belos explained as he now stood before Luz. "This can be the start of a new future for you, Luz Noceda. Please, say you will join me. I'd would very much hate to lose you."
Luz slowly reached into her right pocket and asked, "Tell me something…raising the Khaotic…why?"
"Ah, well, the path to a new dawn is not easy. The Khaotic have their use in creating discord and mayhem. And thanks to the Purist Movement spreading the idea that the nonhumans' existence invites the Khaotic, the humans of Gaea will be quick to join the new era, if it means breaking free from being under these creatures. And through adversity, those who are strong will rise." Belos placed his right hand on Luz's shoulder and gave it a firm squeeze. "What is your answer, Luz Noceda?"
Luz managed to grab a couple pieces of paper, and slowly drew them out. Her eyes briefly flickered towards Belos's open cloak, and the back at the Emperor. "I say…you're insane!" Luz raised her right hand out of her pocket, and then quickly opened it in front of Belos's face.
A bright flash of light went off, making the Emperor cry out in pain. Stars danced in his vision as she stumbled forward, he felt something bump against him, and then rush by him, but the pain in his eyes was distracting him. The stars started to fade as Belos looked around but didn't see Luz.
"You want to cause mayhem and discord…in order to sow hate and division between humans and nonhumans…and to do that…you summoned the Khaotic!" Luz stated.
Belos turned around and that's when he saw Luz standing in the middle of the throne room, and in her right hand she was holding the Ohger Calibur. The Emperor looked down at his waist and realized that his weapon was gone. "Girl, I urge you to–!"
"SILENCE, YOU CUR!" Luz ordered. She knew she was going to die, there was no doubt in her mind. So, why not make this as showy of an end as she could? "You call yourself an 'emperor', a 'ruler', a 'king'! That is not what a king should be! A king defends their people, a king ensures that their land prospers, that their nation is a place where everyone can be free and live in peace! But you…you disrupted the harmony of this world four years ago, and now you want to ruin it even more by pitting humans and nonhumans against each other! Well…I WON'T HAVE IT!"
Luz twirled the Ohger Calibur around and pointed it directly at Belos. "As of right now, I, Luz Noceda, DECLARE WAR ON YOU!" A vision of a hero formed in Luz's mind, a hero from a story that Luz and Amity both loved, so Luz decided to take a page from that book. "HEAR ME, COWER AND QUAKE IN YOUR BOOTS! IF YOU ARE THE EMPEROR OF MAYHEM, THEN I WILL BECOME GREATER THAN YOU! I WILL BECOME AN OVERLORD OF PEACE! I AM LUZ NOCEDA! THE ONE WHO WILL BRING HARMONY TO THE WORLD!"
Swarms of Jester Khaotics were starting to encroach on God Dragon's statue. Lunella, frustrated, had given up on trying to wake the sleeping Guardian Shugod and returned to the battlefield alongside Anne and Molly. However, as the Jester Khaotics started to get closer to the statue, cracks began to from along its surface. The cracks spread further and further as pieces of the stone chipped, shooting off the statue's body like missiles as some of the Jester Khaotics were flattened against buildings thanks to the chipped pieces of stone. The statue's eyes began to glow, and in the next moment, all the stone shattered, revealing what resided underneath it.
}WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHH!{
The roar of God Dragon released a powerful blast of energy that slammed against all the Khaotic in the area, instantly turning them into dust upon impact. Sköll heard the roar, and spotted God Dragon, the few Jester Khaotics that were still standing paused, even the Coven Scouts stopped battling as they witnessed the awakening of their Guardian Shugod after centuries of dormancy.
"No way…he's…he's awake!" Anne cheered.
"God Dragon's free!" Molly exclaimed.
But…how? Lunella thought.
God Dragon growled, but then turned around and dashed straight in the direction of the palace.
Belos growled in anger as he raised her right hand, funneling his magical energy to it as he pointed that same hand in Luz's direction and fired a large blast of crimson magical energy at her. Luz raised the sword up in a feeble attempt to defend herself, but she knew that this was it.
At least I told him off in an epic way…Amity, I'm sorry…
Suddenly, a bright flash of yellow light shined in front of Luz. The human teen opened her eyes and gasped when she saw the light glyph symbol floating in the air, forming a shield to block Belos's magical energy blast. The glyph symbol persisted until Belos ceased his attack. But when he did, he gasped as he looked upon the glowing light glyph in the air.
"No…that's not possible…HOW?!" Belos exclaimed.
Luz was just as surprised as he was, but she made sure not to let him know it. "AHAHAHAHAHA! Do not underestimate me, Belos! I have powers that you've never seen before!"
"No…if this is…I WON'T LET YOU LIVE!" Belos roared as he charged up another magical blast.
However, before he could fire it, a loud roar echoed through the entire chasm, making both parties freeze. It wasn't the howl of the Khaotic from before, it was something else. And for some reason, when Luz heard this roar, it sounded like it was saying, "Get ready!" Suddenly, several glyph symbols appeared under Luz's feet, each one interconnecting to one another, forming a pattern on the floor. Belos saw the pattern and looked back at Luz, and in the next moment, Luz vanished before his sight.
Luz instantly found herself transported outside of the palace, and standing at the edge of the chasm that overlooked it. She was aware of a presence and turned around, when she looked up, she instantly knew who and what it was. How could she ever forget the face of their Guardian Shugod, the very same Shugod that she would often go to talk to, even if he never talked back.
"God Dragon…you saved me?" Luz asked.
God Dragon nodded his head and gave low growl. The Guardian Shugod got down on one knee and extended his right claw towards Luz.
Luz smiled up at God Dragon and answered, "If you're sure, then let's do it!"
The human teen jumped into the enormous claw of God Dragon, afterwards, God Dragon returned to a standing position as he deposited Luz on top of his head and turned to face Bonesborough. Luz took a deep breath, steeling herself for what she had to do. She raised the Ohger Calibur and tapped the dragon head on the guard.
{Drag On!}
Followed by bopping the frog leg, flicking the rabbit ears, and bopping the t-rex head. Each time she did this, the Ohger Calibur added a new beat to the marching tune it was playing. Once all four had been activated, Luz drew a circle with the sword.
"ROYAL ARMS!"
Luz pressed down on the center insignia on the guard and was instantly surrounded by an amber crystal cocoon. A crystal construct of God Dragon flew out from his body and gained some distance before flying around a crashing into the amber cocoon.
{You are the king! You are the – YOU~ ARE~ THE KING~!}
Luz was now donned in her purple armor, the armor of a protector of the realm. God Dragon released a loud roar into the air, signaling the birth of a hero into the world of Gaea.
{Dragon Ohger!}
Luz looked at her new suit of armor, she could hardly believe this worked, but she wasn't about to question it. She glanced over her shoulder, knowing that Amity, Edric, Emira, and Odalia were still inside the palace. She contemplated going down there with God Dragon and rescuing them, but the explosions in the distance told her that there was a more pressing matter. If Sköll was not defeated, then it wouldn't matter if she managed to save them or not.
"Alright, King! Let's get moving!"
A flash of purple light enveloped Luz, instantly transporting her inside the cockpit of God Dragon. An exoskeleton apparatus lowered from the ceiling of the cockpit, securing Luz into it before she grabbed ahold of the joysticks. Luz's Ohger Calibur appeared in the right hand of the exoskeleton, and with a squeeze of the joystick, the hand of the exoskeleton gripped the sword in preparation for battle.
"IT'S THE TIME OF YOUR ADVENT, KING-OHGER!"
God Dragon roared as his entire body transformed into purple light that shot into the air. Back in Bonesborough, God Tyranno, God Kaeru, and God Coinín heard the call of God Dragon and all three transformed into white, azure, and yellow light respectfully. The four lights flew in the air above Bonesborough before uniting in the air and created a brilliant flash of light.
{SHUGOOOOODSSSS!}
God Dragon appeared, shifting from light form, and extending all four limbs. God Kaeru and God Coinín hopped around before God Dragon's legs released bolts of energy that struck both Guardian Shugods. The frog and rabbit mechs began to reconfigure themselves and transformed into leg parts. God Kaeru attached itself to the right leg, and God Coinín attached to the left.
God Tyranno appeared in light form in front of God Dragon before both of God Dragon's arms transformed into energy that struck God Tyranno. The dino mech reconfigured himself as his body split and transformed into arms, the tail remained floating in the air, and now sported a handle at the base. The head was floating on its own as well, but then flipped around and attached itself to the chest of God Dragon, while the two arms locked into the spaces where God Dragon's arms used to be.
God Dragon's neck armor parted down the middle and shifted downwards towards his chest, locking God Tyranno's head into place. The head of God Dragon shined bright before attaching itself to the main body as the mouth under the skull plate opened and revealed a face. The newly formed mech reached out and grabbed ahold of God Tyranno's tail, and upon doing so, the tail instantly stiffened as panels opened and created a blue hard-light blade that extended outwards. The mech swung the blade around before taking its stance.
{KING-OHGER!}
When the light faded, the great guardian spirit of Gaea was reborn. All stood in awe of the great guardian, some even falling to their knees with tears in their eyes. The three rulers were shocked, firstly because King-Ohger was there, and secondly, because their Shugods just up and raced off to form King-Ohger without them.
Luz on the other hand, was loving this. "Alright, everyone…LET'S GO!"
King-Ohger charged straight down the street, heading right for Sköll. The fiery wolf beast, after snapping out of its shock, brandished is crude sword weapon, howled, and dashed for the guardian spirit. The mech and monster's blades clashed, creating a powerful shockwave that shook the entirety of the town. But King-Ohger didn't flinch as the mech recovered and came down with another swing, this time hitting Sköll across the chest, and sending a cascade of sparks flying from Sköll's chest. The giant werewolf let out a yelp of pain, but quickly roared and charged in, shoulder checking King-Ohger in the chest and sending it skidding backwards, upheaving the stone and dirt roads before coming a stop.
"That the best you got?! You runt!" Luz mocked.
Sköll swung its crude stone sword around, summoning multiple fireballs before launching them in King-Ohger's direction. The mighty robot gripped its sword, and dashed forwards, ignoring the incoming fireballs as some exploded around it, and some against its body. Undeterred, King-Ohger swung its sword again, forcing the beast to block it. The resulting impact caused the ground beneath to fissure from the sheer force generated from the hit.
Luz was strangely getting the hang of piloting the giant mech, despite it being her first time inside of King-Ohger, it was almost like this was the most natural thing in the world to her. Why that was was a mystery to her, but right now she was thankful to be able to do this much.
Sköll and King-Ohger continued the clash of swords, sending more shockwaves and sparks into the air with each concussive hit. King-Ohger twirled its sword around, preparing to come down with an overhead strike, but Sköll managed to swing upwards just in time to knock the mech's sword right out of its hands. The sword flipped around in the air for a few seconds before landing, blade first, into someone's house.
"AH! Sorry!" Luz shouted.
Now disarmed, Sköll inhaled and released a powerful jet of angry orange-red flames at King-Ohger.
"Oh no! KING!"
God Dragon answered Luz's alert and King-Ohger immediately glowed before separating into all four Guardian Shugods, allowing the fire blast to pass through the gap they made and avoid them completely. God Dragon landed on the ground, took a stance, reared its head back, and released its powerful shout.
}WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHH!{
An energy shockwave erupted from God Dragon's mouth that slammed right into Sköll, sending the huge beast flying backwards until it landed several yards outside of Bonesborough. God Dragon roared once again as he and the other four Guardian Shugods transformed into their respective light forms and shot straight into the air. The four lights combined in midair as and flashed brightly before revealing King-Ohger once again.
"You mangy dog! Fall before the blade of the Overlord!"
King-Ohger tightened its grip on the sword as purple energy flowed from the body of the mech, down the right arm, and into the hard-light blade, changing into a raging purple flame blade. King-Ohger flipped once in the air and – seemingly – vaulted off the air itself and descended straight for Sköll. The fiery werewolf managed to get up in time and began unleashing a barrage of fireballs at King-Ohger, along with another fire stream. King-Ohger didn't avoid the fireballs but did use its great sword to cleave the through the flames like wet tissue paper.
"SONIC ROAR!"
The eyes of God Tyranno's head glowed as it opened its mouth. King-Ohger swiped through the flames just as God Tyranno released a tremendously powerful roar that blasted the flames away. The shockwave of the roar slammed down on Sköll, ringing its sensitive ears and completely disorienting the Sun Eater.
"NOW EAT THIS SUCKA!"
As soon as King-Ohger neared, a streak of brilliant purple flames ignited through the air. In the next moment, King-Ohger landed far behind Sköll, with a glowing purple gash now present streaking across its midsection. The purple flames were snuffed out as the hard-light blade returned, and in that moment, Sköll fell to the ground following a powerful explosion and signaling the end of the Sun Eater. King-Ohger rose to its feet, standing tall for all of the people to see, strong and victorious.
After the battle, the Guardian Shugods disengaged and returned to their individual partners. Luz disembarked from God Dragon, her Ohger form dispelled as well, returning her to civilian form. When she looked up, the Guardian Shugod was looking down on her fondly, as if it had been reunited with a long-lost friend.
"Thanks for helping out there, King, and lending me your power," said Luz.
God Dragon gave a low growl and nodded towards her.
"But now we have to go back! Amity and her family are in trouble! And we need to tell the other kings–!"
"LUZ NOCEDA!"
Luz turned around and brandished her Ohger Calibur, but paused when she saw who it was. A whole battalion of Coven Scouts, plus the Golden Guard and Lilith Clawthorne were standing before her.
"Oh, thank God Titan, Head Witch Lilith! Listen, we have to back to the palace! Belos has gone mad!"
"Human, it is you who has gone mad," the Golden Guard stated as he took out his artificial staff. "Stealing the Ohger Calibur, assaulting the Emperor, and I know not what black magic you have used, but you have obviously corrupted God Dragon! For these crimes, you are hereby placed under arrest in the name of his majesty, Emperor Belos!"
The Coven Scouts behind them all got into attack stances, some already drew spell circles and were preparing to capture Luz, in this case, probably dead or alive. Luz thought that this might happen, but still…
"Lilith! Please, listen to me! Eda trusted me! I know you two had history with each other, but I'm telling the truth! Belos is behind the Khaotic! He broke the seal that was keeping them locked away, and he's on some kind of genocide kick to kill off all nonhumans! I swear I couldn't make this up even if I tried, please believe me!" Luz pleaded.
Lilith raised her right hand and summoned her white raven staff into it. "Luz Noceda, for your sake, drop your sword and surrender peacefully. You will be given a chance to plead your case before the courts."
Like hell that's going to happen! After what I saw, after what I heard, there's no way Belos will let it get that far! Luz thought.
God Dragon roared threateningly at the gathered troops and took a thundering step forward, daring the battalion and two lead witches to try and harm Luz.
"King! No! Don't hurt them! They don't know what's going on!" Luz ordered.
Just then, a loud croaking sound echoed through the area.
"Was that frog croaking?" the Golden Guard asked.
At that moment, God Kaeru landed on the road. The impact shook the ground and made everyone aside from God Dragon fall onto their rears. That's when God Kaeru opened her mouth and shot out a long blue tongue which wrapped around Luz.
"Uh…AAAAAAAAAAAHHH!"
Luz was swiftly pulled into God Kaeru's mouth, and upon entering, the frog Shugod snapped its mouth shut. God Kaeru turned around and made a mighty leap far into the distance and got further away with each hop until it was completely out of sight. God Dragon, although confused at first, nodded its head as if deciding to leave Luz to her. With Luz gone, God Dragon roared once again and took his leave as a huge glyph pattern appeared beneath his feet, and in flash of light, he was gone.
(Unknown Location: Khaotic Base of Operations)
"Tch, well, that went rather poorly," Loki complained. "Had I known that God Dragon would awaken I would've killed Belos on the spot."
"You ssseem to be confusssed, Loki."
Loki turned his head and looked upon a large snake. Its scales were black, with violet underbelly scales that covered its lower jaw as well. However, the sides of its neck opened, revealing flaps like that of a king cobra. They were violet in color as well, but had flecks of gold that formed sharp, frightening eyes. The snake's eyes burned red, with a single yellow slit glowing in each of them, and along its back were more golden patterns.
"It wasss not Belosss, but a girl," the snake informed.
"A girl? A random mortal awakened King-Ohger? Heh-hehahahahahaha! Oh, now that is even better. No doubt that pompous mortal is positively seething as we speak." Loki's amused grin shifted to a frown a moment after. "But this is a problem. Now that King-Ohger has reawakened, that means the Greater Guardian Shugods are not far behind. We cannot allow these new rulers and this pauper mortal summon the legend again."
The snake coiled and replied, "Fear not Loki, for I, Apophisss the Devourer, ssshall have my turn at them."
