Graham grabs his jacket from the coat rack that has Ace's old jacket on it. "See you soon Ace."
"You better," she opens the door to let Graham leave and Tegan in.
After Ace shuts the door when Tegan enters, "what took you two so long? Getting dressed and being presentable?"
"No Tegan," Ace rolls her eyes, "we were having dinner and a nice chat."
"What was for dinner?"
"Some tofu that Graham made."
"He made tofu?"
"Yes, Tegan. Graham, one of my closest friends; made tofu. He said he had been looking up recipes."
"That man loves you," Tegan informs her friend with a smile.
"He likes someone that he isn't sure likes him back." She tries not to sound disappointed, it isn't the first time someone she was interested in didn't like her back.
"Yeah you. What man, who is known for liking meat, would look up vegan recipes for his friend," Tegan uses air quotes around the word friend. "You are in denial."
"About what?"
"That Graham likes you more than a friend."
"Me?" Ace points to herself.
"Of course you. How much time do the two of you spend together?"
"At least one evening a week."
Tegan tries to hold back a reaction, "how often does he come by A Charitable Earth?"
"Almost everyday that I am there for lunch." Ace then looks squarely into Tegan's eyes, "how do you know that he comes by my foundation?"
"Hello Ms. Thick, I am married to your partner." Tegan pauses with a smile as she remembers something her wife has told her on a few occasions, "Nyssa has said the two of you make a handsome couple."
"Graham and I aren't dating."
"Yes you are. So have you kissed yet?"
Ace holds back a blush thinking how they might've if Tegan hadn't rung the doorbell a bit ago. "No, we haven't."
"Have you thought of it?"
"Did you think of kissing Nyssa before you did?"
"I did. Though it was different back then. I had a little internalized homophobia. You though; you know who you are. You met a guy that you obviously like and it may not be to you but it is to everyone, likes you back and more than a friend. If the looks he gives you when he thinks no one is looking is anything to go by."
"Why have you been looking at him," the younger woman leans closer to her friend.
"Woah, slow down there green eyed monster, I look around to everyone. I see the way he looks at you and the way you look at him."
"What do you mean the way I look at him?"
"You more than like him Ace."
"I, a, what?" Ace is shocked at what her friend just said.
"I have seen you around boyfriends and girlfriends and the way you look at Graham is different, but in a good way. Like you finally found your one."
"My one what?"
"Ace, you know what I mean. Nyssa is my one, Cliff was Jo's."
"My future?"
"That." The Australian smiles at her friend, "now we should get the two of you together."
"Tegan," she sighs, "he doesn't see me like that."
"Oh, but he does. Did you see his reaction today when you talked about Rosie?"
"No, I didn't want to look at him when I talked about one of my many wrong for me flames."
"Well, if I, as your best friend and surrogate sister, have any say. Graham is right for you."
"Then it will happen when it's time."
Meanwhile in Sheffield Graham is whistling to the door as a slightly inebriated Ryan walks up the stairs. "Ryan?"
"Did you shag her yet?"
"What?"
"Ace, the woman you spend a lot of time with."
"What makes you think we are in that sort of relationship? She is a mate, a best mate."
"Sure," Ryan lets out a small burp. Graham opens the door for the two of them.
"You had fun with your mates?"
"I did, did you have fun with yours? Though she is more than one," Graham rolls his eyes. "I wouldn't mind it, you know."
"Mind what?"
"You moving on. Gran would want it, and Ace is cool."
"I know Ace is cool. I like spending time with her." Graham thinks of what he saw in her fridge.
"So make a move. She won't be on the market for long."
"Ryan, Ace is a woman, not something to be bought or won. No one is that."
"Come on Gramps, you know I don't mean anything by that."
"I do, you still should never say that about anyone."
"Okay, Okay. Though she is someone that people like; including those we know."
"What?" Graham hasn't noticed others have been looking at Ace.
"Yeah a few like her, but she likes you."
"How do you know that?"
"The way she looks at you is the same way Gran looked at you," that makes Graham sit back remembering how Grace looked at him.
"I have looked up a handful of vegan recipes to try out for Ace when we decide not to go somewhere to eat."
"Why isn't she ok with you eating meat?"
"She is more than ok with it. The first time we had a meal together, I was about to order something vegan. She stopped me and told me if I wanted to eat meat I should." Graham doesn't say that she would steal something off his plate.
"You have done so much to show her how you feel. Just tell her. When I come back if the two of you aren't together; I will make sure she knows it all."
"How long do I have?"
"Three Months." With that Ryan goes to bed and Graham gets a call from Ace.
"How is Ryan doing?"
"He's slightly drunk and annoying. What did Tegan want?"
"She is wanting me to tell someone how I feel. What was he annoying you about?"
"The same."
"Who do you like?"
"Oh, umm," at that point the unmistakable sound of retching, "I should go check on Ryan; I think he is getting sick."
"Go check on him. I should head to bed. I have to start planning my next fundraiser."
"Want any assistance?"
"Want to spend more time with me then?"
"You are one of my favorite people."
Ace blushes on the other line, "you are also one of my favorite people."
"Thank you," Graham is reminded why he should get off the phone. "As much as I want to keep talking to you; I should go. See you soon."
