Day 201, 1:33 PM
"Oh my god," Kurorio whispers as he goes to check the two bodies. He reaches Ratchet's pocket and finds a few tire bolts. Groaning, he holds them up for the others to see. "This is what he had in his pocket."
"Tire bolts," Jirou realizes.
Komori heads to Textile's body and pulls out several worn clothes. "And this was in his pocket."
"They didn't have any guns on them," Jirou realizes.
"But they put their hands in their pocket," Kaminari argues.
"And they told us not to use our quirk because it 'attracts' zombies," Mineta remembers.
"That doesn't make sense," Jirou nods. "It was probably just a ruse to get us to not use our quirks." Jirou clenches her chin. "You did the right thing."
"But what if they meant no harm to us?" Komori asks.
"We can't take the risk," Kuroiro shrugs, "not anymore. Not in this world. After all, we are in the end of the world. We gave them a warning and they didn't listen.'
Kaminari puts a hand to his stomach. "I feel sick." He drops the revolver. "Oh god."
Kuroiro comes over and pats him on the back. "You made the right call man." Kurorio pulls out a canteen and gives Kaminari a sip. "Take this."
Kaminari takes a deep gulp before blinking a few times. "God."
Mineta averts his eyes as he steps over the body and grabs the backpack with the canned food inside. "Let's just get out of here," the little perv begs.
"Let's go." Kaminari picks up the gun before he immediately vomits. "You gotta be kidding me."
"When we get back, you get to eat first." Kurorio pushes the frosting in his chest. "And you get to have the rest of the frosting."
I killed somebody, Kaminari thinks, I killed two people. What have I done? Oh god, oh fucking god.
"Can we please just leave?" Kaminari whimpers.
"Right, let's go," Jirou nods. "Come on, guys."
"Right."
The four of them lead Kaminari out of the room, leaving the two bodies inside as they step out into the hallway. Kaminari feels his stomach gurgle, even though he's empty on food from his most recent vomit trip.
"Where did the sound come from?"
The five of them freeze and look to their left where the windows are. Crouching down behind the cover, they press their backs to the wall and listen for the voices outside.
"It sounded like a gunshot, man," a second voice responds.
"A gunshot? Who the fuck has a gun?"
"Oh, I don't know, maybe Ratchet and Textile found a gun in the school and decided to take potshots while getting drunk."
"Holy shit, Brick, they're getting drunk without us? Those fucking pricks. As soon as I find those two bastards, I'm going to fucking kill them."
"They better have some fucking wine for us, dipshit."
"No fucking shit, man." Branches break a few seconds later. "Let's have a fucking look-see."
"After you, Creeper."
The voices go quiet and Jirou jams her jacks into the wall and listens. She gasps.
The window breaks above her and a knife goes swinging down on her. She leaps away from the wall at the last second but the slice through the wrist on her jacket. A survivor stands over the window, wearing a camo domino mask.
"You can't fucking hide from us!"
Kaminari leaps forward and shoots Creeper in the head. The survivor falls back and hits the ground hard. Creeper groans before putting a hand on his forehead.
Huh, looks like that metal plate in my head did some good. "Brick! There's five of them!" Creeper picks himself up and makes a run for it behind a large boulder.
Brick, a survivor wearing a headband with sunglasses, picks up a brick and spins it in his hand.
"Don't use your fucking quirk, man," Creeper yells.
"No choice, man," Brick yells. The brick breaks apart in his hand before reshaping into a bow and arrow.
Mineta leaps up and throws a ball at Creeper, trapping his left foot to the ground.
"Twelve o'clock!" Creeper yells.
Brick fires an arrow made of brick at the wall and watches the wall fall apart, revealing the five survivors. Kaminari aims and fires.
Brick made a shield with the brick in his hands, catching the bullet at the last second.
Kaminari rolls over with the boys to the left of the hole in the wall and the girls on the right side.
Brick fires another arrow at them and causes more of the wall to crumble apart with just a single brick arrow.
"Eleven forty-five!" Creeper yells!
Brick picks up another brick and makes another arrow. He fires two arrows in the direction Creeper guided before heading to his teammate.
"My turn!" Jirou steps forward.
Jirou uses her soundwaves on the two survivors, making them scream in pain and cover their ears. They convulse and fall to the ground. Though they are off their balance, Brick manages to aim an arrow at the students. Kaminari pulls Jirou out of the way, saving her life as he returns fire.
Brick makes a shield, which crumbles when the bullet strikes, leaving him defenseless. He reaches over for the last brick on the ground before he pauses. He suddenly coughs and puts his hands on his throat, eyes widening behind his sunglasses, with Creeper's reactions become nearly identical.
Komori sighs. "I got them."
"So do I." Mineta traps Brick's ankle to the ground with a sticky ball.
Creeper and Brick continue to cough as the five survivors make a break for it.
"Let's just leave them," Jirou tells them, "let's just get out of here."
"Thank god," Kaminari nods. "Come on, let's go."
The five survivors hightail it down the hallway and stop near the east side of the school near the cafeteria. Panting slightly, they look at each other.
"Who were those guys?" Mineta asks.
"Ratchet and Textile's teammates," Kuroiro answers. "They came here to avenge us." Kuroiro clenches his chin. "Mineta, how long until those balls come free."
"The healthier I am, the longer they stay on. In the prime of my health, they can stay one for a full day or so."
"But in this world, nobody is in their prime healthy state which means..."
"About thirty minutes."
"Then let's just run," Kaminari suggests.
The five survivors take off for the door at the end of the cafeteria and freeze in place. A room full of walkers and runners fill their vision and they quickly close the door behind them. They head to the vending machine and tip it over, barricading the door.
"The zombies from the beginning of the outbreak," Kaminari realizes, "they're still here."
"It looks like they got trapped here by the survivors," Jirou figures. "Let's go back the way we came and circle around to our car."
"Right."
They rotate on their heels and run for the doors earlier. However, after opening them, the hallway was full to the brim of zombies rushing and limping toward them.
The Kamisquad scream and rush back into the cafeteria, pulling the doors shut and backing away. This time, the doors had to be pulled open from the outside and since they were outside the cafeteria, the zombies pushing against the door would not be able to get through the doors.
"Where did these zombies come from?" Mineta screams.
"They weren't wearing school uniforms," Kuroiro points out.
"Outsider zombies," Komori pants.
"The ones behind the first door are Isamu zombies and the ones in the hallway are outsider zombies," Jirou gulps.
"We're trapped," Kaminari whispers.
"Where did those zombies come from?" Mineta cries again. "I don't want to die!"
Kaminari thinks back to the conversation with the two survivors. "They said quirk usage attracts zombies. It can't be true."
"No, it can't be," Jirou shakes her head. "No, they were lying to get us to not use their quirk."
"But what if it's true?" Mineta asks. "What if me using my sticky ball is what attracted the zombies?"
"It can't be true," Jirou says firmly, "Ratchet and Textile were lying. I'll prove it."
"Is proving it more important than getting out of here?" Kurorio asks.
"This is just a precaution, just in case it is true, which it most likely is not."
The five survivors carefully move over to another exit and Jirou presses her ear to the door. She hears growling outside the door and closes her eyes. "There are zombies behind this door," she whispers. "I'm going to use my jacks." She plugs her jacks into the ground. "Okay, now-"
CLANK!
Jirou leaps back, falling on her backside as the door almost breaks open in front of her. Scooting away, she backs into Kaminari's knees, who quickly pulls her to her feet and backs away.
"No," Jirou shakes her head, "it has to be a coincidence." She backs five more feet away from the door before standing still. "It has to be..." she jams the jacks into the ground once more.
CLANK! CLANK! CLANK!
She gasps, her eyes widening.
She puts a hand over her headphones, pulling on the device to make sure her hearing is correct. The feet belonging to the zombies that were stomping in the general direction of the cafeteria now stomp in the direction of Jirou.
"No," she shakes her head, "no, no, no." She retracts her jacks. "The zombies are facing my direction, growling in my direction."
Kaminari holds his hand up. "So it's true? Quirk usage attracts zombies?" He slaps his forehead. "This was supposed to be a simple supply run and now we're going to be lunch meat for the dead. God-fucking-damnit!"
"So all the zombies showing up at our safehouse were due to use using our quirks?" Komori goes silent. "All the times I made mushrooms to give us food, I was sending out some kind of signal to zombies?"
"Every time I used my balls?" Mineta lisps.
"Every time I used my quirk to merge with Jirou's jacket and hold onto Komori?" Kuroiro clenches his fists. "I can't hold onto Komori when we go on a bike ride anymore?" He growls. "No, this has to be some kind of misunderstanding."
"The zombies got extra active when I used my jacks," Jirou points out. "And there's too many outsider zombies. Too many for them to randomly stumble by. Maybe they were in the area but for them to suddenly converge on us and in the cafeteria."
"There's gotta be a brainiac," Kurorio tries to justify, "the brainiac is trapping us."
Jirou uses her jacks once more, the zombies' aggression amplifying. Jirou sighs as her lobes return.
"I don't know. We may have to experiment more but..." Jirou pauses. "If they're attracted to a certain stimuli other than sound..."
"The pipe bomb!" Jirou realizes. "Kaminari, do you still got the pipe bomb on you?"
Kaminari removes the pipe bomb from his backpack. "Right here."
"Good, I have an idea. Okay, so, here's the plan."
1:40 PM
Komori and Jirou look at each other and nod. They count to three silently before opening the cafeteria's front doors and hiding behind them. Mineta stands behind Jirou and watches as the runners run toward Kaminari.
Kaminari holds the pipe bomb at the opposite end of the cafeteria and presses the button on the end. A loud siren sound goes off on the device, catching him off guard and making him flinch. The runners run toward him as he drops the pipe bomb at his feet. He backs away from the wall and feels Kuroiro reach for him.
With Kuroiro one with the shadows on the wall, he grabs Kaminari by the jacket and travels up to the ceiling, taking Kaminari with him.
The runners dogpile on the pipebomb, the siren still screaming bloody murder for a few more seconds before the bomb goes off and blows the legs of the runners off.
"Yeah!" Kaminari cheers. "Woo-hoo!"
Kuroiro zooms down to the ground. Kaminari plants his feet on the ground and waits for a split second as Kuroiro merges with his jacket.
Jirou and Komori rush through the doors and look around. Mineta throws several balls to his left to trap several walkers before turning in the opposite direction. "This path is clear, just like you said!"
"Good!" Jirou drags a nearby lunch table to the doors with Komori's help and uses it to barricade the doors. "Come on, Kaminari!"
Kaminari sprints for the open cafeteria doors, clenching his fists and sidestepping the walkers unharmed from the pipebomb before he makes it to the table. With the table blocking the doorway, there's only one way for him to get through.
Just as planned, Kaminari performs a kong vault over the table and lands beside Jirou. "Let's go!"
The Kamisquad take off in the hallway to their right and sprint for their lives.
"Never volunteer to be live bait again," Jirou shouts.
"Come on," Kaminari pants as he runs, "the zombies needed some kind of bait otherwise they would've smelled us hiding behind the doors."
Kurorio remains merged with Kaminari's jacket. "Don't kill me, Denki."
"I'll try my best, Shihai."
They sprint for a dead-end, where Jirou uses heartbeat distortion on the wall to make a hole for them to run through. Once they run through, they find themselves in the outside cafeteria. They hop the fence with Kaminari performing a tic-tac, and they sprint for the forest. They hide behind a boulder (Kaminari climbing over the boulder rather than go around it) and stay silent.
"Is everyone okay?" Jirou asks in a whispering tone.
"All good," Kaminari replies in an identical tone.
"Kuroiro, stop using their quirk."
Kurorio groans as he frees himself from Kaminari's jacket and sits behind Kaminari with Mineta to his left. "It can't be true that quirks attract zombies."
"I was just thinking about something..." Kaminari begins, "When I was at the car dealership with Kodai, Kodai was using her quick a buncha times. Pretty soon, a beast came for us and tried to kill us. We were lucky it was blind in both eyes so we used stealth to sneak past it but it still somehow discovered us. When we left it behind in the garage, Kodai used her quirk in the lobby and somehow, the beast sensed us and charged for us."
"Maybe it smelled you."
"We were covered in zombie guts so it didn't smell us."
"We got what we needed," Jirou cuts them off, "let's just get out of here."
"What about the other two guys"
"What about them, Kuroiro?"
"If they recognized us like the last two guys, we should do something about it." Kurorio looks to Kaminari. "Kaminari has already taken the initiative so we should follow his bold, brave example."
"No killing," Kaminari groans, "I'm not killing anyone."
"Impractical arts in an impossible world, Kaminari."
"Let's just get to the car and my bike and get out of here."
"That one guy in the domino mask," Komori begins, "I think he had some kind of X-ray quirk. He saw where we were hiding behind cover."
"Let's just avoid them."
Jirou narrows her eyes. "One guy with a brick reshaping quirk and the other with some kind of peeping tom quirk. We should come up with a strategy in case we face them again."
1:50 PM
Sticking to the forest, the Kamisquad moves across the woodlands using a crouching stance and staying behind waist-high covers like logs and large boulders. Trees also work.
They keep an eye out for potential threats, living or otherwise, and opt to not use their quirks as much as possible.
Jirou stops herself from extending her earlobe and chants a mantra in her head. No quirk, no quirk, no quirk.
What if zombies are attracted to quirk usage? So far, evidence seems to suggest that may be the case but we shouldn't take any chances. When we get back, we'll ask Deku about it and see if his super-duper hero analysis mind picked up on anything.
Kaminari's foot finds a branch underneath, which breaks, making him pause. He gasps quietly and looks around. He pulls his mask up subconsciously, eyes widening behind his blue glasses as he looks around. A glint in the distance makes his heart skip a beat.
"Jirou," he gasps.
He yanks Jirou back, an arrow made of brick zooming past her face, missing her by half an inch before it impales into a tree behind them. The arrow crumbles apart with the Kamisquad ducking their heads.
"Where are they?" Kaminari risks looking up, seeing the dead school before him. With no zombies in sight, Kaminari thought for a second that locating his opponents would be easy pickings but nope, nothing. He puts his head down. "I can't see them."
"It looks like they're trying to snipe us." Jirou holds back using her jacks. "They may be using our quirks but... if we do and the rumor is true... zombies nearby could ambush us."
"We're safe behind this rock," Mineta assures the others, "they can break whatever wall is made of but they can't break solid rock."
"Let's hope."
Kaminari sighs before looking around. He shivers and holds his arms together. "Am I the only one cold?"
Jirou lets out a huff of air and gasps when she sees her breath. "Oh crap."
Like an earthquake, the ground shakes before them, and their vision of the green forest is blocked out as a wall of ice surrounds them like the inside of a volcano and traps them in. The ice wall rises about twenty feet in the air with only about eight feet of space for the five former students to occupy in this makeshift ice volcano.
"What's going on?" Kaminari panics.
"It's a quirk!" Jirou prepares to use her heartbeat distortion.
"Eleven-Thirteen," Creeper's voice shouts from the outside.
An arrow comes flying in from the top of the ice volcano and grazes Jirou's arm. The arrow crumbles and the five students leap back, their backs touching the ice wall. A split second later, they suddenly take a tumble to the ground, as if they lost their sense of balance, or as if someone had flipped a switch and dialed the gravity levels to eleven because they were pressed hard down on the ground, unable to get up.
"Hey!" Komori yells, trapped under Jirou and Kuroiro's body. Mineta lands on Kaminari's lap, barely able to move his back, and looks up at the opening of the ice volcano.
Jirou uses her jacks. "Someone, seal the hole up top!"
Mineta uses all his strength to pop off the balls on his head and toss them at the top of the ice volcano. He aims for the edges first before he throws the balls together, making them stick to one another before he aims outward a little, sealing the opening completely and stopping a big-ass brick arrow from coming through.
"I saved us from becoming arrowposts," Mineta lisps.
"Hang on a minute," Jirou urges, "I'll handle this." She extends her jacks and prepares to insert them into her boot speakers before pausing. She uses her jacks in the ground and hears a familiar growling sound on the outside of the ice volcano.
The horde of zombies from inside the school escapes through several doors and surrounds the ice volcano, growling and clawing at the strange structure, ignoring the Isamu Remnant survivors. The zombies bash and try to bite into the ice volcano but the ice's durability holds up, even when over fifty zombies pile against the ice structure.
"Shit," Jirou curses, "I can't break the ice with my heartbeat distortion." She tries to sit up but for some strange reason, the gravity pushes her against the ground with a serious grudge. "Not yet."
"I can't move," Komori cries, "please."
"I'm so cold," Kuroiro winces.
"We're trapped," Kaminari panics. "We can't move and we're either going to die of hypothermia or being eaten alive while trapped on the ground!" He closes his eyes as tears roll down his cheek. "This was supposed to be a simple supply run and now we're going to die!"
I have never been so scared in my life. Of all the things to be terrified, it wasn't a villain attack or anything like that. No, it was being trapped on the ground, defenseless, with a whole bunch of fatal things surrounding you. Was I going to freeze to death, was I going to be crushed to death when Mineta's pop-off balls disconnect and bring the brick arrow down on us, or was the ice volcano going to melt and have the zombies come in and munch us?
THIS was fear.
You can say that again. Oh man, I'll never forget that day.
Neither will I.
With the Isamu Remnants
"Check that out," Brick laughs as he stands on the roof of the Isamu Academy school. "They are so fucked." He gets down to the roof's floor. "Hey, Earphone Jack girl, if you can hear me, then know that you are fucked. You and your friend are fucking dead. It didn't have to be this way; all you had to do was just stay out of our way. You killed our friends so now you're going to pay. Me and my crew, we're going to sit up here and we're going to watch the five of you die... slowly." He smiles and removes his sunglasses. "Wow. I used to watch you guys at the sports festival and be amazed by what I saw and then you guys turn out to be pathetic." He pauses. "Then again, it is possible that Isamu is better than you." He smiles. "The four of us coordinated a plan to kill not one, not two, but five students from UA High, all of whom made it to the third rounds in the sports festival." He claps his hands. "This is going to look so good on our resumes!"
Brick. Quirk: Folding Brick. By touching a brick, he can reshape it into any design he wants. However, he can only use one brick at a time and he can only work with twenty-four bricks a day.
Creeper smiles behind his domino mask. "I'm going to enjoy watching these UA bastards die, slowly, and in fear."
Creeper. Quirk: Looking Glass. He can see through surfaces made with materials weaker than steel.
A survivor with blond hair pulls back a pair of snow goggles and a white mask. "This is cold-blooded murder."
Iceberg. Quirk: Ice Wall. He can make complex ice structures but that's pretty much all he can do.
The last survivor to join the remnants on the roof was a thin man with a black mask with a crescent moon design on the front. "This is what happens when you take a tumble in the woods. You step a branch and you take a tumble down the mountain."
Tumble. Quirk: 11 Gravity. By looking at someone, he can apply strong a gravitational field to a specific target. However, this effect is temporary and eventually wears off. When the effect wears off on his intended target, he suffers the effects of his own quirk.
"Sit back, relax, and leave everything to the zombies below." Brick takes a seat on a beach chair and sighs heavily. He reaches into his backpack and pulls out a large bottle of wine. "Well, then, we might as well celebrate. This is the last of the alcohol I found in the teacher's lounge so... why not."
"No cups or glasses," Iceberg groans, "how cold-hearted of you."
"Brick's always been a rough and tumble kind of guy," Tumble snarks.
Creeper takes the bottle and takes a swing. "Nice."
With Kaminari
"I don't want to die," Kaminari gasps, "I don't want to die. I don't want to die."
He clenches his fists.
"No," he mutters under his breath, "I am not going to die."
