Chapter 8

The company traveled through a muddy forest as it rained around them. They were all cold, wet, and downright miserable from traveling in the rain.

Win's lips were pursed together as the weather matched the mood that she had been in for at least about a week. It was the last time that she had talked to Thorin and he called her his Amrâlimê before turning back on his words not wanting to make their relationship bigger and better than what it was when they were younger.

"Here, Mr. Gandalf, can't you do something about this deluge?" Dori complained about being soaked. He thought that Gandalf would be able to stop the rain.

"It is raining, Master Dwarf, and it will continue to rain until the rain is done. If you wish to change the weather of the world, you should find yourself another wizard." Gandalf said shaking his head.

"Are there any?" Bilbo questioned curiously.

"What?"

"Other wizards?"

"There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman, the White. Then there are the two Blue Wizards; you know, I've quite forgotten their names."

"And who is the fifth?"

"Well, that would be Radagast, the Brown."

"Is he a great Wizard or is he...more like you?"

Gandalf looked offended at what Bilbo had said.

Aurora and Linetta giggled at what Bilbo had said which caused Gandalf to look at them. The two of them went silent seeing the gaze that Gandalf was sending them.

"I think he's a very great wizard, in his own way. He's a gentle soul who prefers the company of animals to others. He keeps a watchful eye over the vast forest lands to the East, and a good thing too, for always Evil will look to find a foothold in this world."

The four faes remained silent knowing what Gandalf had meant. Radagast was always one of the first ones besides their kind that was able to tell when something dangerous coming into the world.

"Is he the only one that can keep a watchful eye on the lands or are there others…" Bilbo asked rather curious. He was curious about what the faes had to do in this world.

Linetta looked over at Gandalf and saw the look on his face. She knew that he knew, but he didn't want to go into details of what the fae did. It was something that was kept under wraps for the most part. She cleared her throat.

Bilbo looked over at Linetta with a curious gaze. "Are there?" He asked curiously to her.

Linetta rubbed the back of her neck letting out a breath. "Yes, there are others besides Radagast." She admitted softly knowing that the truth needed to be told to him. It wasn't like it was a big secret for him to know.

"Who are they?"

"The fae of course… Each fae watches carefully to make sure that the evil in the world doesn't get their grips on the land… for if we do the lands will be ravaged by orcs and anything dark." Linetta said letting out a soft breath as she gripped the reigns of her pony. She clicked her tongue softly.

"And you also do the same?" Bilbo asked moving his pony closer to her to speak with her a bit better. He found it fascinating that someone would do such a thing so others could live freely in the world.

She let out a soft hum. "Royals aren't ones to be at the lines." She pointed out letting out a breath and pushing her hair back. "Tha còir aig na Royals an crùn a chumail agus gun a bhith air na loidhnichean."

Bilbo's cheeks flushed. "What does that mean?"

"We're only meant to hold the crown and nothing more. We send our soldiers out to protect the lines."

"And you're out here doing this because?"

"It's an honor… plus fae are rather fond of having homes. Even the dwarves of Erebor deserve their homes back from Smaug."

"It's an honor for all of you?"

"Some more than others." She admitted looking at Win who had been sour-looking for days and none of the fae knew why. She would admit that she was worried because it always could cause some sort of problem later on if something wasn't tended to.

"Do all the fae know Radagast the brown?"

"We know all of the Wizards," Shaylee called out from the back of her spot next to Fili. "It is true as Gandalf says. He rather has the company of animals than anyone else."

Aurora suddenly beamed in happiness. "Shall we sing a song?"

Linetta looked back at Aurora. "What song do you think that would be?" She mused softly knowing that the youngest Fae needed something to do besides her flower crowns.

"Fairy Queen."

"Hmmm. Sounds like something we could do. Something merry to lighten the mood of the sour weather." Shaylee said with a soft chuckle. "What do you think Win?"

Win gripped the reign of her pony not replying. A song did sound good but for the younger fae. Nothing would help the gaping wound that she felt she had from Thorin distancing himself from her. "You three go ahead." She said finally answering, her voice sounding rather hollow.

The three younger fae looked at one another with worried gazes. They knew it wasn't a good sign if she wasn't wanting to join in on the song. The three of them began to sing the song of their people.

"Over on the hill

There grows a flower

Growing quicker still

More perfect by the hour

Deep within that flower

Is a tiny chair

All a-fringed with gold

The fairy queen sits there

It is in her breath

That the wind does blow

It is in her heart

As pure as winter snow

It is in her tears

Crystal raindrops fall

And within her years

That she is in us all

Oh dark eyes

Help me see

Just one look

She is gone

Look on me

We are one

Fading with the setting sun

As the willow bows

To her majesty

All the forest flowers

Love her mystery

Who would not admire

Who could not adore

Who does not desire

Who wishes to see more?"

Fili looked at Shaylee with a small smile on his face. He had to admit that the song wasn't all that bad. He would love to hear more of the folk tunes that they knew.

Kili looked down shyly at the rune stone that he had gotten from his mother. Somehow the song reminded him of the small chat that he and Aurora had about his promise to his mother and the promise that she had made to her father.

Bilbo looked on in awe surprised that there was such a tune that the three fae could carry. He could tell in some of the song that they were somber, but it made him wonder if it was because they were worried about the eldest fae in the group who declined to sing.

Thorin closed his eyes as he gripped the reigns of his pony as they continued. He used to remember hearing the sweet voice of Win singing when they were back at the mountain before Smaug had come. He had missed her voice very much and he supposed that he was the cause of what had happened. The reason why she hadn't sung must've been because of him and he knew of nothing that would bring her back to normal. At least what he was willing to do.

This is the end of Chapter 8. I hope that this turned out well. I'm excited to show you guys what will happen next. The next chapter will probably be an OG chapter leading up to the next chapter which deals with them camping out at the decrepit home of the farmer and his family before the trolls. Do you think Thorin will talk to Win to try to smooth things over or will things just get worse between the two of them? Since Win is in a sour mood and avoids Thorin as much as he's avoiding her. Who do you think will be the first to admit their true feeling fully between the four couples? Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews help me keep going when it comes to updating each story that I have out. I hope to have the next chapter out soon. Until next time.

Tha còir aig na Royals an crùn a chumail agus gun a bhith air na loidhnichean.- Royals are meant to hold the crown and never be on the lines.
