Chapter 3: Gifts To Give, Questions To Ask
Beyond the door at the end of the hallway is a small, rectangular room.
Black and white checkered tiles adorn the floor.
A bunch of shoes of different sizes and types rest in a corner of the room.
A light bulb hangs from up above off a single wire.
Against a corner of the room to the left stands a small cupboard, the insides spilling out to reveal winter jackets and other assortments of clothing.
A hard wooden door stands across the room, with intricate wooden design to make it look like flowers were growing on the door.
Near the top of the door, a few inches above the kid's head, is a triangular-shaped window.
In the window, a shadowy shape can be seen, swaying back and forth. Once again, the doorbell rings, echoing a soft, yet loud, jingle through the house. Instinctively, the kid reaches out to-
Hey, wait! Don't just open the door. Who knows what's behind there. Is there any way to check if it's safe?
"Hmm…"
The kid's face scrunches up, before pointing up to the window.
"Could you reach up there?"
With my new arms? Sure, but I don't have anything to grab onto.
"Uhm… hold on."
They raise their hands over their head, lifting up the Sunflower until they are right at the crook of the window. A little higher and the Sunflower would be able to see through.
"I… I'm trying."
THe Sunflower is raised a little higher, now fully able to see through the window-
AGH!
R-right into the eyes of someone trying to look in. A big, bulging eye, pale skin, and thick brown beard. For some reason they were carrying a pot on their head. They don't look like a zombie, but they do look odd. Suddenly, the Sunflower is brought back down.
"Th-that sounds like Uncle Dave!"
Uncle Dave?
"Yah. Everyone- uh, everyone calls him Crazy Dave, but he's been really nice to us. So we call him Uncle Dave. He makes amazing tacos."
Crazy Dave? Tacos? Well, if you think he's safe, then we could use all the help we can get.
After a quick nod, the kid reaches up and unlocks the door. The door swings open wide, only to barely see the back of a white shirt of the supposed Uncle as he walks away, into the darkness, while scratching his stomach. Oddly enough, by the front door is a letter, as well as two small plastic packages.
"Uncle Dave!"
The kid shouts, causing the man to turn around and smile, showing two rows of yellow, crooked teeth. However, Crazy Dave isn't the only one who hears the shout, as, at the sound, two arms, on opposite sides of the lawn, suddenly burst out of the ground. Crazy Dave jumps into the air, before quickly sprinting away at speeds far faster than a man his size should be able to.
Close the door.
"B-but-"
Unless you want to fight two of those things, when we could barely handle one, then close the door. Hurry.
The kid's face scrunches up, before obliging and grabbing the handle of the door. The Sunflower, quickly remembering, launched her arms out to the paper and packages by the door. One leaf wraps around the paper, the other around one of the packages, and just as they are both pulled in by the Sunflower…
…two zombies burst out of the ground, their red eyes glowing in the dark…
…and the door closes with a click.
A/N: Sorry for the about 2 week long wait, some stuff was happening at home that made it real hard to work on this, then school, then more home stuff. But I did it! Finally! This is actually the first author's note I've made for this story, neat. I was so busy just trying to write the story that I never made any of these. So, hope you're enjoying the story, hope you don't mind the odd writing style, it kind of came naturally to the story, and I couldn't bring myself to remove it. I know it can probably be a bit hard to read.
Oh, and reviews and stuff is good for the motivation!
