Lavender Town (Night)
Before Midoriya knew it, night had fallen. Now that there was no sunlight, the sinister aura of the Pokemon Tower nearly froze the boy in his tracks. "I have to find Mr. Fuji." he said, entering the tower without fear.
The inside of the building was filled with gravestones with either symbols or names on them. 'Onix.' 'Volcarona.' 'Croagunk.' 'Gengar.' 'Sylveon.' 'Rockruff.' 'Melmetal.' Midoriya recognized some of these names, recalling several instances where he'd seen Dominic battle using them.
"Visiting the Tower, are we?" a male voice said from the darkness, frightening Midoriya. "If you want to invade enemy territory, you'll need to be more aware of your surroundings." The man stepped closer, allowing the greenette to see him clearly. He was a middle-aged man with pale cyan hair and blue eyes. He wore a black jacket with red zigzags adorning his upper arms. He also wore a red scarf around his neck.
"Are you part of Team Rocket?" Midoriya asked.
"No. I am merely here to visit." the man said. "But you, you came here to save the man Team Rocket has taken hostage, correct?"
"That's right. How did you know that?" Midoriya asked, a bit creeped out by the man in front of him.
"Why else would someone enter the Pokemon Tower at a time like this?" the man said. He pulled something from his jacket, a headset with a golden S on the front. "Take this, you'll need it to progress."
"What is it?" Midoriya asked.
"Put it on if anything strange happens." the man answered, ignoring the question.
"What?" Midoriya asked, confused. But the man was gone. 'Where did he go?' he wondered, looking around the dark room. Shaking his head, he decided it was unimportant for now and pressed on. The various floors of the tower looked very similar, with the only noticeable difference being the placement of the graves. It was almost like going through the same room with different objects scattered around. After a few more minutes of silence, he heard a voice coming from up ahead.
"G_! Le_v_ th_s pla_e!"
Out of nowhere, a phantasmal bone struck Midoriya in the leg twice, causing him to fall to the ground. "Who's there?" he called out. Nobody answered. But something in front of him sparked in golden light before lunging at him. The boy jumped out of the way, and the light crashed into the floor as a result. He could almost see a figure in the dust.
"Lea_e _ow! The_'ll hu_t yo_!"
The noise made Midoriya cover his ears. 'How am I supposed to fight something I can't see?' he asked himself, looking around the room for his attacker. Then, he remembered what happened when it struck the floor. "5% Hawaii Smash!" he called out, running to the nearest wall and punching it. The explosion kicked up dust, allowing the boy to see his opponent. "Carolina Smash!" he yelled, rushing to the invisible being. Unfortunately, his punch went straight through, not affecting it at all. Midoriya stumbled forward, causing the strange device to fall out of his pocket. 'He did say to put it on if anything strange happened. I guess now's as good a time as any.'
Midoriya placed the device on his head. Once he did, his 'enemy' became visible to him. It was a ghostly bipedal creature with a skull on its head. It also held a bone tightly in its hand.
"Leave this place! You don't know what they're capable of!" it warned in a female voice.
'This must be Marowak.' Midoriya realized. This wasn't an enemy. It was just a victim of Team Rocket. "I don't want to fight you, Marowak." he told the spirit. Through the device, he could see it relax a bit. "I know you've been hurt, but I'm after the same thing as you. But I can't do that if I can't get past you."
Marowak paused for a few seconds before moving out of the way. "Be careful." it said, vanishing in a bright light.
"Bravo, Izuku Midoriya." the man from before said, walking down the stairs to greet the boy. "I had almost doubted you when I heard you battling Marowak."
"How did you get above me?" Midoriya asked, suspicious. He said earlier that he wasn't a member of Team Rocket, but was that the truth?
"You don't trust me." the man said, smirking. "A sensible reaction."
Suddenly, the room shattered into pieces, leaving Midoriya and the man in a dark void. "What's happening?!" the boy asked, shocked.
"You have done well, boy." the man said. Just to his left, something rose out of the ground. A black being with white hair and one visible blue eye. It had red spikes surrounding its head, and its shoulders and hair appeared to be gaseous. "But can you handle this? Use Dark Pulse." The mysterious black being gathered dark energy in its hands before firing it at Midoriya, forcing the boy to jump out of the way.
"Carolina Smash!" the greenette called out, running toward his opponent. He threw a 30% power punch, but somehow, it was blocked. 'How the-!?'
"Dark Void." the man commanded. The mysterious being created an orb of darkness above its head before throwing it at the ground, causing it to expand and swallow Midoriya. The boy struggled to remain standing, but was ultimately taken by sleep. "You must strengthen your spirit, Izuku Midoriya. Your world depends on it." the man told him before he finally passed out.
Hosu Hospital (Night)
Midoriya woke up in a cold sweat, recalling an intensely vivid nightmare. 'What was that? Some sort of sleep Quirk?' he wondered. He'd never experienced a dream like that before, but he was unsure of whether or not it was actually the doing of a Quirk. Looking around, he saw that he was in a hospital, along with Todoroki and Iida. Before they woke up, he needed to check something. He picked up his phone and dialed Dominic's number. It wasn't hard to forget, as it was literally the number '5' nine times in a row.
"Yello?" the blonde's voice said from the other end of the call.
"Xiao-Long, I think I saw a Pokemon." Midoriya said. "Can you tell me if there are any that are black, float in the air, have white hair, and blue eyes?"
The phone remained silent for a couple of seconds before Dominic responded. "Did you see it in a dream, by any chance?" he asked.
"Yes, I just woke up, so it's fresh in my mind." Midoriya said, astonished that his hunch was correct.
"Darkrai, the Pitch-Black Pokemon. Type: Dark. It can lull people to sleep and make them dream. It is active during nights of a new moon. To protect itself, it afflicts those around it with nightmares. However, it means no harm."
"Darkrai are one of few Pokemon able to control dreams, so the fact that you met one in a dream isn't surprising." Dominic said. "But there is still something off about this."
"What do you mean?" Midoriya asked, still confused about the situation.
"Among the species of Pokemon I've come across, a select few earn the title of Mythical because of how rare they are." Dominic explained. "Darkrai is one of these Pokemon. They don't show themselves to humans if they can help it." A minute of silence. "Did you see someone with Darkrai?"
"Yeah. A man in a black suit." Midoriya said. "What about it?"
"...I need to hang up now." Dominic said, ending the call.
'What is he hiding?' Midoriya wondered. He didn't think Dominic meant anything malicious by concealing what his Pokemon truly were, but still. He couldn't help but wonder who that man in his dreams was, and if there really were towns where Pokemon were common.
AN: Sorry about the hiatus, but things are no longer as easy as they were when I was writing the events of Season 1. Crunchyroll requires a membership to stream these episodes, and it is a pain in the ash to watch on Hulu. But, I've managed to squeeze this one out. Now that the Indigo Disk is out, I'm back on a Pokemon writing streak, which means this story will go on!
