"Remember, it all comes down to four important rules! Skills, training, strategy, and teamwork. Keep that in mind, rookies!" yelled Spitfire to the team as they felt the power of her voice.
"Yes, ma'am," responded most of the players.
"Good. Now let's get going with a ten-minute warmup and exercises!" said the woman as she blew her whistle.
The entire team worked for ten minutes until Spitfire blew her whistle again.
"Okay, listen up!" Spitfire announced. She was standing in the middle of the pitch with the participants standing before her. Behind her was a set of obstacle cones for dribbling. "Your first lesson is the first rule of soccer; Skills. We need to see how well you can dribble the ball past these cones. If the ball touches the cone, that's minus five points. Ready? Go!" She blows her whistle.
Hitch went first, dribbling the ball past the obstacle cones with grace and style, avoiding every cone. Zoom went next. She tripped a few times during her attempt but made it back, still in control of the ball. Following her was Mario as the boy took a deep breath and concentrated. At the sound of the whistle, he took off, looking at his feet and paying attention to the cones. The boy did well until he reached the last cone as his foot grazed the object. Spitfire took note of that and docked points off his score as he came to a stop.
Zipp was last, dribbling past every cone with her own style. The entire team watched from the goalpost and were pretty impressed with Zipp's dribbling skills. After that, Spitfire wrote their scores on her paper. Then came the next obstacle of skills. She blew her whistle, and a few moments later, the obstacle cones were replaced with training dummies.
"The next part is making your way past these training dummies," Spitfire instructed them. "If the opposition closes down any of your passing options, you must keep the ball to your feet until you find one. That means you keep the ball away from the opposition. I want to see if you rooks can get the ball past these training dummies." The woman pushed a switch as her training dummies moved left and right. She blew her whistle once more to begin the course.
Thunder went first as he dodged the dummies, dribbled the ball past them, and succeeded on his first try. Zoom went next as she was determined to avoid making the same mistake earlier. With enough practice, she made it to the end. After a little while, it was Zipp's turn. But the girl stood there with her right foot on the ball with a confident smile. She had something in mind.
"Now, watch this," she said.
And next thing they don't know, Zipp carried the ball with her left foot and spun at a maximum rate to the point she was in the form of a mini tornado. She called it; The Zipp Storm Spinner. The girl easily blew through the obstacles and made it to the end. And ended it with her signature pose. Everyone watched in disbelief.
Spitfire took note of that as she wrote it down on her clipboard. Even commenting that it reminded her of a similar move that someone else used on her to show her up. Oh, she would never let that day down back then.
"How'd you do that?" asked Mario as Zipp returned by the others.
Zipp shrugged, "Well, it's hard to explain, but," she said, "not only did I take my time with soccer, but I also went through intense fitness trying to keep up more than fifty minutes. And since I was so fit, I could somehow do this spin. I called it; The Zipp Storm Spinner. Cool, right?"
"Alright, enough! Next part!" said Spitfire.
The next part was: Training. The participants would undergo intensive training to last ninety minutes full-time to improve their stamina. They spent thirty minutes on the training course; most barely passed as they reached their limit. Hitch and Mario were able to hold their own. Zipp, on the other hand, aced it with flying colors.
Next was Strategy. The participants would have to form a game plan on the whiteboard to bypass the defenders. And execute it on the pitch. Zoom went first as she drew a strategy on the board and then went to execute it. However, Thunder managed to steal the ball from her by sheer luck. A good plan but badly executed. And it didn't help that she strangled the boy for ruining her plan as he tried apologizing and saying he was doing his job.
"Hey, save the making out for after practice!" said Spitfire, seeing Zoom continue to choke Thunder.
The others soon drew up their plans and proceeded to execute them. The last one was Zipp. Her strategy was just as promising as the others. And surprise, surprise, it was perfectly well executed.
And the last one was: Teamwork.
"Okay, y'all! This will be the last session of practice," Spitfire announced, "This is about working together. I want to see you all put your trust in the strikers to get past the defenders!" The coach pointed at Hitch, Thunder, and Sprout.
Trying to get past them were Mario, Zoom, and Zipp.
"The stronger you put your trust in your teammates, the stronger your teamwork will become," said Spitfire as she blew her whistle.
Zoom kicked the ball forward. She nutmegs between Hitch's legs and passes to Mario. He kicked the ball, but Thunder headbutted it away. Zipp was marked by Hitch and Sprout, but Mario had space. So she kicked the ball over their heads and to the boy's feet, but as soon as he got the ball to his feet, Thunder tackled the pass. Zoom spun past Sprout and passed the ball to Mario. He took the shot, but the ball hit the goalpost.
Zipp jumped over Hitch's slide tackle and was immediately marked by Sprout. But Mario was wide open, so Zipp used her Sipp Storm Spinner to get Sprout off her and kicked the ball while in mid-air. Mario leaped and leaned back until he was parallel to the ground and kicked the ball bicycle kick style, which hit the back of the net.
Zoom dodged Hitch and passed the ball to Zipp, but Thunder intercepted the pass. Hitch and Sprout immediately marked Mario, so he returned the ball to Zipp. Both boys avoided the mini tornado coming through. Zipp stopped spinning and kicked the ball between Sprout's legs and Mario's. She shot for the upper left corner, and Thunder failed to reach that.
After an hour, the entire team was seated on the benches as they were all drenched with sweat. They were drinking their bottles of water when Spitfire made her presence known.
"All right, not bad, rooks. Now hit the showers and get ready for school!" said the woman as she dismissed the team.
"Hey, Zipp! Nice one!"
"Yeah, you're good!"
The girl was receiving praise from the other members, who were impressed by what she did.
"I severely underestimated how good of a player she is," said Mario as he walked alongside Hitch with both boys having their backpacks slung over their shoulders.
"You and me both, bud," stated Hitch as they headed inside.
The school was now well underway as the students of Canterlot High were walking among the halls. Some were talking with each other, while others were rushing about doing some things. A TV was shown on the wall as it sounded before coming online. Some who were passing by heard it and looked.
"Greetings, everyone. DMNN is here to present the latest in Duel Monsters news and tidbits from the community. And wouldn't you know it? Last night, in front of a live crowd, the World Champion competed against his latest challenge. How did it fare? See for yourself." said the reporter as she presented the video playing behind her as it expanded and filled the screen.
The video plated the recording of a duel that was live last night.
"And here we are, folks. The Championship duel is about to begin. Will the reigning defending champion be able to secure another victory? Or will his challenger, the mighty Aleister, finally take the title off the champ?" said the announcer for the event.
"I'm finally gonna end your reign," stated Aleister.
"So you say," responded the World Champion as his mouth was shown with a smile.
"All the past times you've beaten me, but I assure you! That won't happen this time!" said Aleister as he slapped on his Duel Disk.
"You say that every single time," snickered the World Champion as he strapped on his Duel Disk. Which ejected a gold card tray.
"Opponent detected. Streaming data. Duel mode set. Initiating. Commencing." said their Duel Disks.
"It's time to duel!" shouted the World Champion as the crowd went nuts when he said that.
Aleister's Life Points: 8000-
Champion's Life Points: 8000-
Turn 1: Aleister
"I'll go first. I draw!" said Aleister as he drew his card. "I warned you to prepare for battle, but there's no preparing for this! I play Flute of Summoning Dragon. This allows me to summon two Clear Vice Dragons(?/0) from my hand!" Two mighty creatures appeared as they roared before taking their positions on the field. "But they won't be sticking around for long 'cause I'm gonna overlay them!"
The two dragons turned into orbs of light as they hovered in the air. A portal opened before the man as the orbs entered, and a pillar of light occurred.
"I Xyz Summon, Number 22: Zombiestein(4500/1000)!" shouted the champ's opponent. A giant monster appeared behind the duelist, wearing a tunic and exposing its chest muscles. A red garment on its head covered its entire face; only a single hole was left where its glowing eye shined.
"Your turn, champ. Not that you'll survive that long. This duel will be over faster than I expected," said Aleister, placing a single card facedown.
Turn 2: World Champion
"Fine then. I draw!" said the champ as he drew his card. "First, I activate the spell card Dark Magic Veil. Then, using my life points, I can summon my most ardent ally! Now appear, one and all... Dark Magician!" Just like that, the World Champion was able to call forth his most powerful companion as he took his position in front of its master.
World Champion's Life Points: 7000-
"Next, I'll play Thousand Knives and give your monster the shredding of a lifetime." said the champ as he held his card. Magical daggers appeared before him and his magician as they all zoomed toward Aleister's monster to destroy it.
"I don't think so; I play my trap, Dark Sacrifice! This gives your knives a new monster to mince!" said Aleister as he sent his 8-Claws Scorpion from his deck to the graveyard to negate the effect of the champ's spell card.
"Heh, not bad," said the World Champion smiling as he placed two cards facedown.
Turn 3: Aleister
"Got that right!" said Aleister as he drew his card. "Since you failed to destroy my monster, it can now attack. And Dark Magician will be his first victim!" Zombiestein then reeled its fist back as it thrust it forward; it made contact with the World Champion's monster as a veil of smoke appeared.
"You have no monsters to protect you. You're through. I told you that this time I was taking you down!" said Aleister with a smug smile.
"Wrong!"
"Huh?"
Soon from his opponent's field came chains wrapped tightly around Zombiestein's hand and its body. It bonded the creature together. Soon the smoke cleared, and the World Champion and his Dark Magician stood there, who was perfectly fine. But like Zombiestein, he too was wrapped in chains as it restricted him from moving.
"I activated my trap, Time Chain! Not only does my Dark Magician survive your attack, but both he and your monster are locked out of this duel for 2 turns!" said the World Champion.
World Champion's Life Points: 5000-
"Ugh, you're just prolonging the inevitable. I will beat you!" With that, Aleister placed a single card facedown and ended his turn.
Turn 4: World Champion
The champ chuckled as he seemed to get under his opponent's skin. "I draw. From my hand, I summon Celtic Guard of Noble Arms(2100/700) and Celtic Guardian(1400/1200)." The champ now had two mighty sworders that were ready to strike. "Since your monster is still out of play, you have nothing to defend yourself from a direct attack. Now my monsters to battle!" shouted the champ. "Normally, my Celtic Guard of Noble Arms can't attack unless I'm not holding any cards. And it just so happens I do. Now my monsters, attack him directly!" The two monsters then joined forces as they landed a hit on Aleister, which actually caused him to be pushed back as he dug in his heels to keep him from being flung on his back. He was now on one knee as he looked back at the champ. "Now the addition effect of my Celtic Guard of Noble Arms activates, which allows me to draw two more cards since I dealt you damage." The champ then picked up his two cards and ended his turn.
Aleister's Life Points: 4500-
Turn 5: Aleister
"My turn!" said Aleister, clearly angry as he drew his card. "I summon Ape Fighter(1900/1200)." An ape appeared as he roared and pounded his chest. The gorilla then raced forward on all fours as it leaped into the air and lowered its fists. Celtic Guardian put his sword up to block it, but it was cut in half as he was defeated.
World Champion's Life Points: 4500-
"When Ape Fighter destroys a monster in battle, it gains 300 attack points," stated Alesiter as his gorilla pounded his chest from the powerup.
Turn 6: World Champion
"My turn," said the champ as he drew his card. "Two turns have passed Aleister, and that means Dark Magician is released from the ties that bind him, but there's more. I play Magical Dimension. Celtic Guard of Noble Arms, lend me your strength and let me use that strength for... Dark Magician Girl(2000/1700)! And with her arrival comes your monster's departure."
Another spellcaster appeared that looked similar to the outfit of his Dark Magician. But instead of purple, it mainly consisted of blue and pink with a few touches of yellow. A female wearing a skirt with blond hair and green eyes appeared and wielded a wand that matched her outfit. She kissed and winked quickly before landing on her master's side of the field. Magical Dimension fired a powerful beam, taking out Ape Fighter and leaving Aleister completely defenseless.
"Now go, my magicians, Double Dark Magic Attack!" Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl lifted and powered up their wands as they prepared to deliver the final blow.
"Don't you dare! Unless you want to fall prey to my Zombiestein!" said Aleister. "I activate my facedown Induced Explosion! Since a card of mine was destroyed by a spell effect, I can target and destroy one card on the field. I chose your Time Chain, so now my monster is free!" True to his word, Zombiestein broke free from the chains as they now stood in the way of the two magicians. "That's right! Call off your attack, champ!"
Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl returned to their master's side as he told them to stand down. However, he smiled, despite his opponent having the stronger monster.
Turn 7: Aleister
"I told you that today I would beat you. Now to crown a new champion. Zombiestein, attack!"
"I beg to differ," smiled the World Champion. His response shocked Aleister. "Go Dimension Reflector. By banishing my two magicians, this trap transforms into a mirror monster with the same attack points as your Zombiestein, but here's the best part you then take damage equal to those same attack points!" said the champ as his two monsters joined their wands and were now inside of a giant mirror as it absorbed the stats of Aleister's monster and prepared to hit him for some serious damage.
"Y-You... You set me up?!" said Aleister in disbelief.
"It's over," said the World Champion as his mirror fired a powerful attack as it was heading straight for his life points. Upon contact, the ground broke into a million pieces as smoke appeared.
A moment later, it disappeared as the champ's opponent stood on the floor of the duel field.
Aleister's Life Points: 0-
Winner: World Champion.
"And ladies and gentlemen, in a record of just 15 minutes. The Champion has successfully defended his title once again!" shouted the announcer as the crowd went wild and began to chant the man's name.
He pointed a finger upward as he lifted his head and smiled at the camera.
"And he just continues to roll, everybody. Fifteen minutes was all it took for the World Champion to defeat his latest challenger. The question now is: Who will try to dethrone him? Stick with us as DMNN will continue to deliver the latest news." said the reporter as the broadcast ended.
The students in the hallways, seeing the many monitors that showed the report, all began to murmur. The duel they saw of the World Champion and how quickly he put away his opponent got them talking. One person, in particular, had been heavily interested in the duel as Zipp put her hand on the monitor. The girl imagined herself taking on the World Champion.
"He's good," said the girl before going on her way to her class.
Apple Bloom was currently in her classroom as she was on the phone. The students were filling in as she listened to what the person on the line was saying.
"Alright, Principal Celestia. I'll let them know," said Apple Bloom as she ended the call.
She then stood up, adjusted the small handkerchief on her neck, and tightened the bow in her hair. She cleared her throat to signal everyone's attention before walking to the front of the class.
"Morning, y'all. I got some swell news from Principal Celestia. She just said she wants to put on a special exhibition duel for Friends and Family Day." Apple Bloom said that most of the class would murmur. "Now, the other classes have also been told this as well. So what does that mean, well, it means that for the next week, y'all will compete in duels against each other. And then, at the end of the week, each Dueling professor will select individuals they want to elect to participate."
True to what Apple Bloom was saying, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo also told their classes about the announcement that Celestia and Luna informed them of.
"So, it's time for a little field trip outside!" said Apple Bloom.
She grabbed her clipboard and personal deck and ushered the students to follow her. They grabbed their backpacks and proceeded to follow their teacher. With the sudden announcement from both principals, they arranged special times for each dueling instructor to use the soccer field in the back. Upon arriving, Apple Bloom had the students pull names out of a jar to select who their opponents would be. Once names were drawn, she instructed the different pairs to spread out and begin their duels. With the clipboard, she began walking around and noting what she saw.
"You good to duel here?" asked Zoom as she and Zipp walked to a space on the field that wasn't occupied.
"Yeah, this it'll work. Let's do this," responded the girl.
Each pulled out their Duel Disk and strapped them on. It took a moment before they came online and connected to the system. They each took their position as they stood a few meters away. The girls slotted in their decks as Zipp's Duel Disk projected a white card tray while Zoom had a black card tray.
"Opponent detected. Streaming data. Duel mode set. Initiating. Commencing duel." said their Duel Disks.
"Let's duel!" said both girls.
Zoom's Life Points: 8000-
Zipp's Life Points: 8000-
Turn 1: Zipp (Hand 5)
"Guess I'm starting off," responded Zipp calmly as she drew the top card of her deck. "Since I control no monsters, I can special summon my Speedroid Terrortop(1200/600)!" Out came a serpent-like monster made entirely of spinning tops with two fangs at the front. "Thanks to its ability, whenever it's summoned, I can add 1 'Speedroid' monster from my deck to my hand. So I'll choose this one, Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice(300/1500), and immediately summon it!" A three-sided dice appeared as on all three sides was an eye.
"I think you know what comes next. I tune my Level 3 Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice with my Level 3 Terrortop!" declared Zipp. Her monsters took to the air as her tuner turned into three giant green rings that circled her other monster. A flash of light occurred through the middle as a new monster appeared.
"I Synchro Summon to call forth a mystical cross-sword with the power to cut every enemy down to size! Hi-Speedroid Kendama(2200/1600)!" stated the girl as her new monster appeared before her. "Now, I'll activate Kendama's ability. By banishing my Terrortop from my graveyard, I can deal you 500 points of damage!" Zipp's monster had the tip charge up before shooting out a beam that hit Zoom directly.
Zoom's Life Points: 7500-
"I end my turn," said the girl.
Turn 2: Zoom (Hand 5)
"Then it's my turn," said Zoom as she drew her card. "And like you, since I control no monsters and you do, I can summon this monster without tributing. So appear, Blackwing - Sirocco the Dawn(2000/900)!" Out came a birdman as their feathers were black and landed before the girl.
"A Level 5 monster without tributing?" said Zipp, amazed that her friend could do that.
"And there's more! Like the old saying: Birds of a feather like to flock together. So make way for Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind(1300/400)!" said Zoom as she summoned another monster. Out came another feathered monster, as this one only had a set of eyes on its face.
"Now, I activate Gale the Whirlwind's ability. Once per turn, I can cut your monster's attack and defense points!" Zoom said as her monster flapped its wings and produced wind that weakened Zipp's monster.
"And now Sirocco the Dawn attack Hi-Speedroid Kendama!" said Zoom as her monster soared toward Zipp's side of the field.
"I activate the ability of my Speedroid Tri-Eyed Dice. By banishing it from my graveyard, I can negate your attack on my Kendama!" said Zipp as a mirage image of her monster appeared and caused Sirocco to stop.
"Well, it's a good thing I got another monster. Gale the Whirlwind, attack!" said Zoom as her other feathered creature flapped its wings and produced massive winds to destroy Zipp's monster.
Zipp's Life Points: 7800-
"I'll then place one card facedown and end my turn," said Zoom.
Turn 3: Zipp (Hand 5)
"It's my move!" said the girl as she drew. "You thought you got rid of my Kendama that easily; think again. Since it's in my graveyard and I control no cards, I can special summon it back!" said Zipp as her monster rose again and took the field.
"Now, attack Sirocco the Dawn!" said Zipp as her monster rushed forward and speared Zoom's monster.
Zoom's Life Points: 7300-
"Now I activate my facedown, Black Wing Revenge! When a Winged Beast-type monster is sent to the graveyard, it allows me to special summon 2 Blackwing - Black Crest Tokens(0/800)!" said Zoom as two small birds appeared on her field in defense mode.
"I end my turn."
Turn 4: Zoom (Hand 3)
"My draw! And now, I'm gonna activate Gale the Whirlwind's ability once more to cut your monster's stats in half!" said Zoom as her monster flapped to create a wind stream that weakened Zipp's monster. "Next, I'm gonna tune my Level 3 Gale the Whirlwind with both of my Level 2 tokens!"
Zoom's monsters all flapped their wings as they soared. Her tuner turned into three giant green rings as they circled both tokens as a pillar of light surged.
"And by way of their cosmic bonds, I can form an even mightier beast! I Synchro Summon! Spread your wings, Assault Blackwing - Raikiri the Rain Shower(2600/2000)!" The winds died down to reveal the monster. It resembled a cross between a man and a raven, covered in bits of purple armor, a headpiece shaped like a bird's head, a pair of bird feet, feathered wings sprouting from his back, and a tunic covering his lower half. He drew his sword and released a war cry that sounded like a man yelling mixed with a raven's caw.
"Now Raikiri, attack her monster!" ordered Zoom as her swordsman flew and brought his weapon down on the creature, dealing more damage to Zipp, who covered up with her arm momentarily.
Zipp's Life Points: 6300-
"I end my turn!" smiled Zoom as she took the lead in the duel.
Turn 5: Zipp (Hand 5)
"My turn. First, I'll summon my Speedroid Maliciousmagnet(0/0)!"
"It has zero attack points," said Zoom.
"Maybe. But here's the cool part about its special ability. I can synchro summon using this card and one of your monsters."
"What?"
"So I'm taking care of Raikiri and using it to my advantage. So I tune my Level 1 Maliciousmagnet with Level 7 Raikiri!" declared Zipp. Her magnet monster turned into a single giant green ring, circling Raikiri as a pillar of light surged. "I Synchro Summon, Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake(3000/2800)!" Zipp's new beast appeared as it soared above the girl, making a sound.
"And since I synchro summoned it, I can activate one of its abilities. And the ability I choose is the ability that destroys all other cards on the field!" declared Zipp. Her monster powered up and let loose a ton of laser that decimated the entire playing field. Zoom put an arm up to protect herself as the facedown she set was gone, and she was defenseless.
"Next, I'm playing the spell card, Speed Recovery. So that I can resurrect my Hi-Speedroid Kendama!" said the girl, now having two monsters to attack with. "Time to attack, and I'll start with Kendama!"
"I don't think so, 'cause whenever you declare a direct attack, I can special summon my Blackwing - Ghibli the Searing Wing(0/1600)!" said Zoom as a bird appeared before its master and put its wings in a defensive position.
"Then it's a good thing Kendama can handle that. Cause one of its special abilities is that whenever it attacks a monster in defense mode, it can inflict piercing damage!" said Zipp with a smile.
"Oh no," said Zoom, registering what her friend said.
Kendama rammed into the bird as it cried before being destroyed. The effect of the machine transferred the difference in their points as damage to Zoom.
Zoom's Life Points: 6700-
"And I'm not done yet! Kitedrake, your turn!" shouted Zipp as her second monster raced forward. It powered itself up before letting loose a powerful beam as it made contact with Zoom, and this time, the girl was knocked onto her back to signal how powerful it was.
Zoom's Life Points: 3700-
"I'll then lay one card facedown and end my turn," said Zipp.
Turn 6: Zoom (Hand 3)
"Not bad," said Zoom, getting up and dusting her clothes. She drew her top card and looked at it before deciding what to do. "Time to strike back, and it starts with this, Blackwing - Gofu the Vague Shadow(0/0)!"
"Another monster with zero attack points?" said Zipp.
"Don't judge just yet. Watch! Since I controlled no monsters, I was able to special summon it. And in turn, it produces two Vague Shadow Tokens(0/0)." said Zoom as two smaller birds also appeared. "However, Gofu's true ability allows me to Synchro Summon from the graveyard."
"From the graveyard?!" said Zipp, stunned to hear that.
"So, let's get to it. I tune my Level 5 Gofu with my two Level 1 tokens!" said Zoom as her monsters took to the air. Her tuner turned into five giant green rings as the tokens soared in between with a light surging through. "Make way for his return, Raikiri the Rain Shower!" The bird swordsman appeared as he swung his blade and let out a cry to signal his arrival.
"Next, I'm gonna play Blackwing - Bora the Spear(1700/800)!" said Zoom as another feather monster appeared wielding a giant spear drill. "Then... activate Raikiri's ability. Based on the number of 'Blackwings' I control, I can destroy up to that number of cards on your field. So your two monsters are gone!"
Zipp's field was cleared out of monsters in the blink of an eye as Zoom had a clear shot to her life points.
"Well, when Kitedrake is destroyed, it allows me to add a 'Speedroid' monster from my deck to my hand," said the girl as her Duel Disk ejected the card she wanted and grabbed it.
"Like that's gonna matter. Raikiri cut her life points down to size!" declared Zoom.
Her monster flew forward as it had its sights on Zipp. It flew upward and raised its sword above its head as it looked to come down on the girl.
"Now! I reveal my facedown, Dice Roll Battle! Whenever you declare an attack, I can target 1 'Speedroid' monster in my graveyard and banish it alone with a 'Speedroid' tuner monster in my hand. Then I'm allowed to synchro summon a monster whose level is equal to them both!" said Zipp.
"What?!" said Zoom, not her turn to be stunned by what Zipp was doing.
"So check this out! I tune my Level 8 Hi-Speedroid Kitdrake with my Level 3 Speedroid Carturbo!" shouted Zipp as her two monsters appeared. Her Carturbo turned into three giant green rings that circled her other monster as a surge of light coursed through. "I... Synchro Summon! Hi-Speedroid Clear Wing Rider(3500/2000)!" A motorbike zoomed out of a portal as it had a line attached to a dragon spirit that roared.
"3500 attack points?" said Zoom.
"And now the other effect of my Dice Roll Battle trap card kicks in! By banishing it from my graveyard, your Raikiri is forced to battle my new monster!"
"But yours has more attack points which means..."
Zoom watched her monster let out a war cry as he showed no fear in taking on the stronger foe. It swung its sword only for the dragon spirit to bite down on it and shatter. It then roared as the dragon took out the winged swordsman, causing Zoom to take damage from the exchange.
Zoom's Life Points: 2800-
"Looks like the end is near," said Zipp.
Turn 7: Zipp (Hand 2)
"It's my move, and I'll play the spell card, Hi-Speed Re-Level!" said Zipp. "So I banish my Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake from my graveyard. And as a result, it changes my Clear Rider's level from 11 to 8."
"Why do that?" said Zoom, unsure why Zipp would lower her own monster's level.
"'Cause my spell also has another effect. Until the end of this turn, my monster gains 500 extra attack points times the monster's level that was banished!" said Zipp as her monster received a massive boost in power (3500 + 4000 = 7500).
"7-7500 attack p-points?!" stuttered Zoom at seeing how powerful Zipp's monster was.
"Hate to do this to you, girl, but... that's how the game works. So... Clear Wing Rider, end this duel!" said Zipp.
Her motorbike revved up its engine before screeching forward at high speeds. The dragon that it was attached to via a line roared before swooping down and infusing itself with the vehicle. Aura surged through the monster as it reached top speed and ran over Zoom's monster, resulting in a massive explosion. Zoom felt the power as she flung back and onto the ground.
Zoom's Life Points: 0-
Winner: Zipp
The duel ended as the monsters disappeared. While Zipp went to help her friend up, Apple Bloom was shown standing a few meters away. She made a mental note and wrote down what she saw. A smile formed on her face before heading to another pair's duel.
At the end of the day, school was finally complete. The dueling instructors recorded the first day of testing and saw which students emerged victorious. However, that was only the first day, as they had an entire week to impress their teachers. And even then, it wouldn't guarantee they had a spot. Winning didn't necessarily translate to being selected; the instructors also looked for other things. In other words, it would be tough for each dueling instructor to narrow it down to three candidates for each.
Zipp was at her locker when something got her attention, preparing to return to her dorm. She turned to see several students crowding around a nearby monitor as they seemed to be expecting something. She closed her locker door and slung her backpack over her shoulder as she walked toward the crowd.
"Hey, Thunder, Zoom! What's going on here?" asked the girl to her friends.
"Turns out the Duel Monsters News Network is about to make an announcement," said Zoom.
"On what?" asked Zipp with a raised eyebrow.
"Don't know. The rumor from your sister is that it has to do with the World Champion," said Thunder as he looked at his phone and showed her the tweet that Pipp sent him earlier about a supposed announcement being made regarding the World Champion of Duel Monsters.
As if on cue, the monitor had the live feed of the broadcast come on. Everybody remained silent as they looked on. All around the school and in the dorms, the TVs were playing as it seemed whatever news was being reported was being viewed worldwide.
"This just in, ladies and gentlemen! We have breaking news!" shouted the reporter as he quickly grabbed a sheet of paper from one of the producers. "It has been confirmed! The next challenger to face the World Champion has been named!"
The students were shown as the image of the person who was challenging the World Champion came on. It got almost everybody watching to gasp.
"Who's that?" asked Zipp.
"You don't know who that is!" said Zoom as she and Thunder looked at their classmate with stunned looks.
They all turned to see the image of the person as their rainbow-colored hair was the thing that stood out.
"That's Rainbow Dash! She's currently the third-ranked duelist in the entire world," said Thunder.
Someone was standing in an unknown place on top of a hill. The clouds above them began to roll in as the sky got grey and darker. Lightning went off as the person standing there was shown. They wore sneakers, blue jeans, and a sweater vest that covered their arms. The white t-shirt they had with a rainbow-colored lightning bolt and storm cloud on it. The person smiled as it panned upward to show an older Rainbow Dash.
"It has been made official. Ms. Rainbow Dash will challenge the World Champion!" said the announcer as the woman lifted her arm to show her duel disk and the deck slotted in as lightning went off before fading to black.
Author's Note: It seems Zipp is making quick ways by becoming the most talk about player on the team. And now having her first official duel, showing that she ain't no rookie. And on the other hand, seeing a duel involving the World Champion and the massive bombshell that was dropped at the very end. The next challenger to face the World Champion has been announced... and it's none other than, the one and only... Rainbow Dash.
