In Celestia's office, the woman was on the phone with someone as they discussed business.
"So, are we in agreeance?" asked the woman as she leaned back and put her fingers together.
"Yes. Celestia. I believe I can fulfill your requests. The only question is: what level of expertise do you want?" asked the person on the other phone.
"Principal Celestia, Vice-Principal Luna. It's been too long. You are looking well." The man took the offered hand and shook it twice, then turned it and bowed to press his lips to the back of it briefly.
"Good to see you again, Principal Sombra. Seems you're still quite the charmer," said Celestia, retracting her hand as she saw her old friend's face from when they were younger.
"Welcome back," responded Luna bluntly.
"We're honored to be back here," said Cadance.
"Welcome, everyone! Let us warmly welcome Principal Sombra and the students of Crystal Prep!"
"Well, Tia. May I have this duel?" asked Sombra in a gentlemen person as he extended his hand.
"The pleasure is all mine, Sombra," responded Celestia in a smooth and flirty tone as the pair prepared to battle.
"D/D/D Gust High King Alexander, destroy Neo-Parshath the Sky Paladin!" Alexander ran forward and jabbed its sword, a slicing spear of wind shooting out from it. Neo-Parshath raised its shield in front of it. The wind spear tore through the shield and engulfed the angel, its wings snapping back. Celestia closed her eyes as it exploded in a light flare, feathers falling over her.
"I'll do it myself!" shouted Roll as that got the attention of all four adults. "I'll duel for both me and my brother!"
"Let's duel!" shouted the duelists.
"I Xyz Summon! Number 10: Illuminknight!" shouted Blaze.
"Submersible Carrier Aero Shark!" shouted Roll. "Using one overlay unit, you take 400 points of damage for every card in my hand!"
"Sharpened steel and bird of prey! When the two come together, prepare to rumble! I Fusion Summon! Frightfur Leo!" shouted Ursula. "I activate Frightfur Leo's ability! Now I target one face-up monster you control and destroy it! When it destroys that monster, you take damage equal to its attack points!"
"Heh. Look at her. One hit, and she's already on her knees. Begging for mercy." scoffed Blaze, laughing at Roll's pathetic state.
"Welcome to the big time, bitch!" shouted Ursula as she smiled. "I end my turn!"
"Get up, sis!"
"Huh? Mario?" responded Roll as she was confused.
The duel had come to a screeching halt as everyone processed what was happening. After taking a dose of damage, it looked like Roll was in an unwinnable situation, but her big brother appeared just then. Mario stood beside his sister as his Duel Disk was on and projected a red card tray. The girl was in awe as she couldn't believe her eyes.
"I said, get up!" shouted Mario. "Come on... you know I never disappoint my little sister. Not gonna start now."
Roll smiled and wiped her eyes before standing up.
"What took you so long?" joked the girl.
"You know me. I like to fashionable late," replied the boy to his younger sibling.
"Just like Dad. Always gotten make an entrance," chuckled Roll to herself as she rotated her left arm.
"So, are we doing this or what?" asked Mario to his sister.
Roll nodded as Mario looked around. The students were cheering, now looking forward to seeing the duel play out.
"Looks like he came through after all," smiled Zipp.
"Maybe. But is it enough?" wondered Sunny as the pair were already down some points.
"Clearly, he can't just do this! He failed to show up on time. They should be disqualified!"
"Oh, calm down, Lulu!" Celestia told her younger sister. "So what if he's late? He's here now, isn't he? We'll overlook his tardiness and allow him to join his sister."
"Of all the people to break the rules, I never suspected you to be one, Tia!" Luna glared at her older sibling as Celestia did the same.
"I agree with Tia."
"Huh?" said both sisters as they looked at Principal Sombra.
"Sir?" said Cadance.
"If you claim these two to be the duelists that you say, Tia. Then why not allow them to show us? If the boy really is special, I want to see what he and his sister can do." said Sombra in a menacing-like tone he had in his voice while leaning back and pressing his fingers together.
"Then it's decided! Suck it, Lulu!" Celestia expressed as she stuck her tongue out at her little sister before returning to watch the duel.
Luna grumbled like a little kid and slumped in her chair with her arms folded. She didn't like being outvoted as she was a stickler for rules. Sombra kept his gaze toward the siblings, interested in their skills. If want Celestia said about the pair, then this was an opportunity that he couldn't afford to miss.
Back on the field, everyone was now waiting. They all focused on Mario; with him joining, it was his turn, and Blaze and Ursula had to wait one turn before they could attack. The boy looked about as he was taking it all in; he closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind. He opened them as he lifted his Duel Disk to look at his slotted deck.
"It's been a while since I've done this. Let's see if I still got it," said the teen.
He put his hand on the top card of his deck and took another deep breath. He closed his eyes as something echoed in his mind.
Remember, Mario. Put your trust in your deck, and it will trust you. You have to believe in the heart of the cards.
Mario opened his eyes as he kept his hand on his deck. The spirits of his monsters came rushing to his mind as he looked forward with a determined look.
Turn 4: Mario (Hand 5)
"It's my... DRAW!" shouted the boy as he drew, blowing a wind effect in everyone's face.
"Go for it, big bro!" cheered Roll.
Mario smiled as he showed off a card, "I play this... the spell card, Polymerization! So I'm gonna combine these two monsters in my hand, Elemental HERO Burstinatrix and Elemental HERO Clayman, to create... the Elemental HERO Rampart Blaster(2000/2500)!" Mario's two monsters were shown above him as they were sucked into the vortex behind him. Purple and orange lights shot out and fused as a new monster emerged. A soldier in a suit of armor of Clayman was shown as it had a shield in one hand and a blaster in the other.
"A Heros deck!" stated Blaze as he and his girlfriend gritted their teeth at what Mario did.
"Check out that monster!" exclaimed Zipp.
"2500 defense points?" said Hitch.
"Sure, it's impressive, but they can't just keep playing defense," said Pipp.
"I'm activating Rampart Blaster's ability; even in defense mode, it can still deal you damage equal to half of its attack points!" said Mario with a smile.
His monster aimed its blaster and fired; the attack caused Blaze and Ursula to cover up as they looked away until it ended.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 13,400-
"I place one card facedown and end my turn," declared Mario as the crowd cheered.
"Nevermind, I underestimated him," said Pipp as she was fascinated with her crush's move and started to daydream about him.
Turn 5: Blaze (Hand 0)
"Don't think just because you showed up now, it's gonna change the outcome of this duel! We plan to show why Crystal Prep is at the top!" said Blaze as he drew. "Babe, mind if I use your monster?"
"Anything for you, handsome," responded Ursula to her boyfriend.
"Thanks. Now I activate Frightfur Leo's effect. I destroy your Elemental HERO Rampart Blaster, and you take damage equal to its attack points!" stated Blaze as his girlfriend's monster fired buzzsaws that took out Mario's monster.
Mario and Roll's Life Points: 12,100-
"Thanks for that. Cause I activate my trap card. Elemental Mirage! Now my Rampart Blaster is back in play!" said Mario as he managed to bring back his monster.
"Lucky break! I end my turn," said Blaze.
Turn 6: Roll (Hand 4)
"Then it's my turn!" said the girl as she drew. "I'm gonna start by activating the spell card, Hammer Shot. I target one monster on the field with the highest attack points and destroy it! So say goodbye to Frightfur Leo!"
A giant hammer came down on Ursula's monster, which was destroyed in one shot.
"My monster! You'll pay for that!" growled Ursula.
"Welcome to the big time, bitch!" responded Roll, using her foe's own line against her. "Next, I'm gonna summon Panther Shark(1100/2000)!"
"Hold on! You can't summon a Level 5 monster without making a sacrifice!" said Blaze.
"Yes, I can! Because you control 2 or more monsters, I can summon this guy without any tributes. But why stop there? Because with Panther Shark out, Eagle Shark(1000/1800) is gonna join the fray!" said Roll as she held up another card in her hand as it shined. Another shark with multiple fins around its head appeared and growled.
"Look at that! Roll was able to summon two Level 5 monsters without sacrificing!" said Hitch.
"I say, she's back in the game!" declared Izzy.
"I lay one card facedown and end my turn!" said the girl.
Turn 7: Ursula (Hand 4)
"My draw! I play the spell card, Frightfur Reborn!" said Ursula as she revived her Frightfur Leo from the graveyard. "Now, Frightfur Leo, use your ability and send his Rampart Blaster packing!"
The monster growled as it fired up its buzzsaws and shot them forward. They destroyed Mario's monster for the second time, and the boy didn't flinch from his monster being taken out.
"And don't forget, you take damage equal to its attack points!" declared Ursula.
Mario and Roll's Life Points: 10,100 -
"Just what I expected."
"Huh?" said Ursula at Roll's decree.
"I reveal my facedown, Icy Crevasse! Since you destroyed my brother's monster with your effect, I can target and destroy one monster you control. So Frightfur Leo is going bye-bye again!" smiled Roll as Ursula lost her monster a second time. "Oh, my bad. I forgot to mention, you take damage equal to its attack points!"
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 11,000-
"That conniving little bitch," muttered Ursula at Roll for outsmarting her. "I summon Fluffal Penguin(1600/1000)!" A cute penguin wearing earmuffs appeared as it stood before the girl.
"I end my turn with a facedown!"
Turn 8: Mario (Hand 2)
"It's my draw!" said the boy. "And I play the spell card, Miracle Fusion! So by banishing monsters from my graveyard, I can Fusion Summon. So adios to Elemental HERO Clayman and Burstinatrix... and say hello to Elemental HERO Nova Master(2600/2100)!" Out came a warrior wearing gold armor as a fireball appeared in its hand.
"Now, Elemental HERO Nova Master. Attack Illuminknight!" declared Mario as his monster leaped into the air and shot some fireballs. Illuminknight put his sword up to block, but the fireballs pierced its armor. It left a hole as the monster exploded.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 10,300 -
"Now the effect of my Nova Master activates. Since it dealt you damage, I can draw one card!" said Mario. "So I'll lay this facedown and end my turn!"
"This is going back and forth. Both sides are almost equal in life points," said Izzy.
"It's anyone's game," stated Sunny.
Turn 9: Blaze (Hand 1)
"It's my turn! And I'll play the spell card, Card of Sanctity. Now we all draw till we're holding six cards in our hands. Consider this a gift!" declared Blaze.
All four teens then drew as they refilled their hands. Both sides looked at what they drew and nodded at their partners before looking at the other.
"Ready?" asked Roll.
"Yeah," responded Ursula.
"Talk about a reset. Hopefully, Mario and Roll drew something to help them," said Pipp.
"I'll start by equipping my Gigabrilliant with Xyz Crown! This changes my monster's rank to a Level. Then I'm summoning Galaxy Summoner(1600/1400)!" Out emerged a spellcaster whose face was made of the cosmos. "I activate Galaxy Summoner's ability, so I can change one Light monster I control and change its level to 4. And my Gigabrilliant meets those requirements."
"Not good," said Roll, as she knew what was coming.
"I overlay my Level 4 Galaxy Summoner and Gigabrilliant to construct the overlay network!" shouted Blaze as his two monsters turned into orbs of light and hovered. A portal opened before the boy as the orbs were sucked in, and a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon, Galaxy Stealth Dragon(2000/1600, OLU: 2)!" A dragon appeared, phasing in and out was a mirage-like state.
"I activate my monster's ability. Using one overlay unit, I can special summon one Dragon-type monster from my hand. So make way for... Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon(3000/2500)!" A huge dragon roared as it descended from the heavens and through a portal full of space.
"Uh-oh," said the main 5 as they saw the beast.
"Galaxy-Eyes, take out his Nova Master!" commanded Blaze.
"I reveal my facedown, the trap, Hero Barrier! Now I can negate your attack!" said Mario.
"Lucky move. But you won't be so lucky next time!" said Blaze as he set a card facedown.
Turn 10: Roll (Hand 6)
"My turn! And I'm gonna start by overlaying my Level 5 Panther Shark and Eagle Shark! With these monsters, I build the overlay Network!" shouted Roll as her monsters turned into orbs of light and hovered in the air. A portal opened before her as the orbs were sucked in, and a pillar of light emerged.
"I Xyz Summon, Number 73: Abyys Splash(2400/1400, OLU: 2)!" A sea warrior emerged donning blue armor with hints of gold and white as it wielded a scepter/spear.
"What good is that monster gonna do?" questioned Zipp.
"Roll must have a plan," stated Sunny, knowing her classmate wouldn't summon her monster without planning ahead.
Okay, Roll. As long as you don't attack Galaxy-Eyes, you're okay. So that means...
"I activate Abyss Splash's special ability! Using one overlay unit, I can double my monster's attack until the end of your turn! However, any battle damage I deal is cut in half! Abyss Splash attack her Fluffal Penguin!" said Roll, pointing at Ursula's side.
Roll's monster aimed its staff as a water sprout began to form.
"I activate my facedown. Call of the Earthbound!" said Blaze as his card flipped up. "Thanks to this trap card, I can choose the target of your attack. So Abyss Splash is attacking my Galaxy-Eyes!"
"Oh no!" gritted Roll, as she didn't want that to happen.
"Thanks, babe," said Ursula to her boyfriend for protecting her.
"Anything for you," responded Blaze to his girl. "Now... Galaxy-Eyes! Activate your ability!"
Galaxy-Eyes roared as it began to glow. Soon two portals appeared above Galaxy-Eyes and Abyss Splash as they were sucked in and disappeared.
"Where did they go?" asked Hitch.
"Galaxy-Eyes' ability allows me to banish it and any monster it battles until the end of the Battle Phase!" smiled Blaze.
Roll gritted her teeth as she was outsmarted.
"Anything else?" asked Blaze.
"No," confessed the girl.
Soon the two portals from before appeared as Roll's monster, and Galaxy-Eyes returned.
"Now the other effect of Galaxy-Eyes activates. Since the monster it battled was an Xyz monster, it gains 500 extra attack points for each Xyz Material that was on your monster when it was banished. And your Abyss Splash has no more overlay units, thanks to my dragon!" boasted Blaze as his monster strengthened (3000 → 3500).
"I summon my Shocktopus(1600/800) in defense mode! And place one card facedown!" said Roll.
Turn 11: Ursula (Hand 6)
"My turn. And I'll activate the continuous spell card, Toy Vendor! Here's how it works. Once per turn, I can discard a card to draw a new one. If that card is a 'Fluffal' monster, I can special summon any monster in my hand. Otherwise, I discard it."
A vending machine appeared as a coin was inserted. The knob turned as it opened and ejected a capsule. The capsule opened, and it revealed a ball.
"The card I drew is Fluffal Sheep. So with that, I can summon my Edge Imp Tomahawk(1800/800)!" said Ursula as her new monster appeared, a collection of glowing tomahawks attached. "Next, I play this, another Polymerization! So I combine my Fluffal Octopus and Edge Imp Tomahawk!" Ursula's two monsters were sucked into the vortex behind her as purple and orange lights appeared before combing into one.
"Blades of steel and monster of the deep! When you two come together, your heart will skip a beat! I Fusion Summon! Hold on to your pirate hat 'cause you're about to face a seafarer's worst nightmare! Frightfur Kraken(2200/3000)!" said the girl as a Kraken emerged with blades on its tentacles.
"I activate Frightfur Kraken's ability! Once per turn, I can target one monster you control and send it to the graveyard! So say goodbye to Elemental HERO Nova Master!" said Ursula as her Kraken slammed its tentacles down into a whirlpool that appeared. It popped out on Mario's side and grabbed hold of his monster, who struggled to break free before it was pulled into the water and closed.
"I end my turn by placing one card facedown!" said Ursula.
Turn 12: Mario (Hand 6)
"It's my move; I draw!" said the boy. "First, I'm gonna summon my Elemental HERO Solid Soldier(1300/800) in defense mode. Then because I normal summoned him, I can also bring out another 'HERO' monster as long as it's Level 4 or below. So I'm busting out Elemental HERO Stratos(1800/300)!" Two warriors appeared as one was wearing a wing glider, and the other had armor made of earth.
"Then Stratos' ability kicks in! So I can add one 'HERO' monster from my deck to my hand," said Mario as he used his Duel Disk to select the card he wanted. "And I'm not done there, 'cause I then play the spell card, E - Emergency Call! So I add another 'HERO' to my hand."
"Mario's doing a lot of searching," said Zipp.
"He must be trying to get his cards just right," said Sunny.
"Next, I'll play this, Fusion Substitute. And as the name says, I can use it like Polymerization. So I'm combining my two monsters! Meet my Elemental HERO Great Toronado(2800/2200)!" A wind blew across the field as it began to cease; a monster was wearing a torn short cape as it fluttered in the wind.
"My Great Toronado's ability activates. When it's Fusion Summoned, all your monsters have their attack and defense cuts in half!" said Mario. His monster aimed his hands at his opponents and blew a massive wind as the monsters felt their strength being sapped away.
"Now, attack his Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!" said Mario. His monster then made a sphere of wind form as it was thrust forward and collided with the dragon as it was destroyed.
Blaze and Roll's Life Points: 8550-
"I'll call it there!"
Turn 13: Blaze (Hand 2)
"My move. I'll begin by playing Pot of Greed to draw two cards. Then I Pot of Desires. So I banish the top ten cards of my deck to draw two!"
"Why take such a big risk by doing that?" asked Pipp.
"I reveal my Photon Emperor to summon my Galaxy Brave(0/0)!"
"But it has zero points," said Izzy as the swordsman appeared on the field.
"Next, his ability activates! When he's summoned, I can target one 'Galaxy' monster in my graveyard, and it gains its attack and defense points. So my Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon empowers my Galaxy Brave!" shouted Blade as his dragon's spirit was infused into the sword (0 → 3000).
"Oh, that's bad!" exclaimed Pipp.
"It gets worst. I activate the ability of my Galaxy Stealth Dragon; using its last overlay unit, I can summon a Dragon-type monster from my hand. So meet Galaxy-Eyes Afterglow Dragon(3000/2500)!"
"Another one?!" said the main 5 as another dragon appeared.
"I hate dragons," muttered Mario.
"Now I know why Dad hates them," muttered Roll.
"We're far from done! I summon my Galaxy Wizard(0/1800). And thanks to its ability, I can increase its level by 4, making it Level 8!" said Blaze as his sorcerer appeared and changed its level to double its original. "Now, I overlay my Level 8 Galaxy Wizard and Galaxy-Eyes Neoglow Dragon to build... the overlay network!" Both monsters turned into orbs of light as they hovered in the air as a portal opened before the teen. The orbs were sucked in as a pillar of light emerged.
"Now, by way of the cosmic energies that make up our galaxies, I'll make something just as mighty! I Xyz Summon! Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon(3000/2500 OLU: 2)!" A dragon that was a more powerful version of Galaxy-Eyes appeared as it roared, which shook the building.
"Oh no," said the siblings as they stared down the great beast.
"Babe, mind if?" asked Blaze.
"Go right ahead," stated Ursula as she blew a kiss to her boyfriend and winked.
"I'm using Frightfur Kraken's ability. So let's destroy your Shocktopus to avoid it using its special effect!" said Blaze as the sea creature had its tentacles enter a water vortex. The tentacles appeared and wrapped around the squid before it was sucked under and disappeared.
"Now, I activate my Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon's ability. Using one overlay unit, I target one monster you control and take control of it until the End Phase. And then it becomes a copy of my Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon. So I choose your Elemental HERO Great Tornado!" stated Blaze as Mario's monster appeared on his side and changed into Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon.
"Lucky for you, any other monster that's not Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon can't attack you directly. But that's not a problem because you only have one monster on your field, and I have my Galaxy Brave." stated the boy. "Galaxy Brave, attack her Abyss Splash!"
The warrior leaped into the air as it was bringing its sword down on Roll's remaining monster. The swordsman left a huge slash down the middle of its target; seconds later, it exploded.
Mario and Roll's Life Points: 9500-
"Now you two have no monsters left to protect your life points!" taunted Ursula as the two dragons glared at the siblings, each having a target in sight.
"Time to let loose! Galaxy-Eyes #1, attack them directly!" ordered Blaze as his first dragon charged its attack.
"I reveal my facedown, Deep Current!" shouted Roll as her card flipped up. "Thanks to this trap, I can negate your attack and end the Battle Phase!"
Galaxy-Eyes stopped charging its attack as Blaze growled.
"I end my turn with a facedown!" said Blaze as Mario's monster returned to his side.
Turn 14: Roll (Hand 5)
"My turn! I summon Spear Shark(1600/1400)!" said Roll as a shark appeared with a long spear-like nose at the tip. "And since I control a Water monster, I can summon Silent Angler(800/1400)!" An angler fish appeared as it shined its light on the top of its head. "And I'm giving my Spear Shark a power boost by equipping it with Aqua Jet, so it gains 1000 extra attack points until the end of my turn(1600 → 2600)!"
"So what? Your monsters aren't strong enough to take down my boyfriend's dragon."
"Maybe, but I can take out yours. Spear Shark attack Frightfur Kraken!" said Roll as her monster began to swim toward its prey at high speed with its nose ready to strike. "Oh, I forgot to mention, Spear Shark's ability allows it to deal piercing damage. So even if your monster's in attack mode, you're still getting hit."
"Not so fast! I reveal my facedown, Frightfur Defender! This allows me to keep my monster from being destroyed, and it gains 800 attack points!" said Ursula.
"Either way, you're still taking damage!" stated Roll.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 7450-
"I end my turn with two facedowns."
Turn 15: Ursula (Hand 2)
"My turn. I summon Fluffal Bear(1200/800)!" said Ursula as a plushie teddy bear appeared. "Next, I'll switch my Kraken into attack mode and activate its ability, destroy Great Tornado!"
"As long as that Kraken remains on the field, Roll and Mario are gonna lost their best monsters one by one," said Zipp as Kraken took out the boy's latest hero.
"True, but by using its ability, it can't attack. Which is good because it can attack twice," stated Sunny.
"Yeah, but that doesn't stop her other monsters from waging an assault," said Hitch.
"Fluffal Bear, attack Silent Angler!" stated Ursula.
"I reveal my trap, Poseidon Wave! With this card, I can negate your attack!" shouted Roll as a huge wave washed before her and blocked Ursula's monster from attacking. "And there's more. You take 800 points of damage for every face-up Fish, Sea Serpent, or Aqua monster I control. And I have two!" The tidal wave rushed forward as it headed for Ursula and her field. The girl was drenched in water as she seethed.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 5850-
"You little pest!" growled Ursula as she was sick of Roll.
"Had enough!" taunted the girl.
"I end my turn!"
Turn 16: Mario (Hand 5)
"It's my move, so here goes," stated the boy as he drew. "I'll play the spell card, Fake Hero. So now I can special summon an 'Elemental HERO' from my hand, it can't attack, and it's sent back to my hand at the end of my turn. So... make way for... Elemental HERO Neos(2500/2000)!" Mario held up his card high as it shined. Soon a warrior appeared as it radiated with such a glow and power as it descended.
"Never thought I'd see the day that my brother and his Neos would be fighting side by side again," muttered Roll as it brought a smile to her, knowing that her brother and his star monster were battling like old times.
Mario looked at his monster as memories began rushing back into his head. It'd been so long since he last played the monster that he considered his ace, as he'd almost forgotten what this feeling was like.
"So, you summoned a monster that can't even attack? Your point?" questioned Ursula.
"You'll see, 'cause I'm then activating Fusion Recovery. Which allows me to add a Polymerization and my Elemental Stratos back from my graveyard. Next, I summon Stratos, which triggers his ability to allow me to add a 'HERO' from my deck to my hand." said Mario as he selected the card he wanted. "But hold on, 'cause I'll use Polymerization to fuse both. So I give everybody, Elemental HERO Neos Knight(2500/1000)!" Emerged Neos as a different form, having long hair and wielding a sword and shield.
"It's the same attack points as his regular Neos," scoffed Pipp.
"Please, tell me, he has a plan," said Zipp.
"Neos Knight's ability allows him to increase his attack points by half the warrior monster used to create it. So since Stratos has 1800 attack points, it boosts Neos Knight by 900!" stated Mario as his monster strengthened (2500 → 3400). "Now, Neos Knight, attack Frightfur Kraken!"
His monster took to the air and brought its sword down on the sea creature, who cried in pain before it exploded.
"Lucky for you two, you don't take damage from Neos Knight's attacks. Oh, it must have slipped my mind, 'cause you see... Neos Knight is allowed two attacks in this one battle!" smiled the boy.
"Two attacks?!" said Ursula and Blaze in shock as they saw the warrior preparing to take out Cipher Dragon.
"Alright, this is just what they needed!" said Sunny as Mario was about to take down the powerful beast.
"I reveal my facedown, Rank-Up-Magic Cipher Pursuit!" shouted Blaze as his card flipped up and shined.
"A Rank-Up card?!" said Mario and Roll as it was their turn to be caught off guard.
Nearly all the students of CHS were left in shock and confusion, apart from the two siblings.
"What did they say?" asked Izzy.
"What's a Rank-Up card?" asked Pipp as nearly all of them looked at Sunny.
"Don't look at me," confessed the girl, who didn't even know what that was. And she was the smart one.
"I'm disappointed in you girls," stated Sombra smugly to Celestia and Luna. "See, at Crystal Prep, we tell all students about everything the game offers. And yet, none of your students know what a Rank-Up card is after how many weeks into the school semester?"
"We were just getting there," said Celestia trying to save her face in front of the CPA principal.
"A mistake like this would never happen at Crystal Prep, would it now, Ms. Cadance? Because we pride ourselves on being the best and not making silly errors," asked Sombra.
"Yes, sir," responded the Dean.
"You should really reevaluate how you handle your school curriculum when teaching Duel Monsters. Maybe you like some pointers?" said Sombra.
"We're doing just fine, Sombra. Thank you very much," responded Luna, trying to not let his taunts get under their skin.
"I hate him," whispered Celestia.
"I second that, sister," responded Luna at how Sombra was trying to show why his school was better than theirs.
All four adults turned their attention back to the duel as Blaze continued his move.
"Since the difference in our life points and yours is at least 2000, I can activate this spell card. Now I target one Xyz 'Cipher' monster I control and use it to Xyz summon a monster that's one rank higher!" shouted Blaze as his dragon turned into an orb and was sucked into a portal. "Say farewell to Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon, and hello to a Monster of even greater galactic power! Go, Rank-Up Xyz Evolution! Now bear witness as the same fantastic powers that forge the universe forge this most mighty creature! Neo Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon(4500/3000 OLU: 2)!"
"4500 attack points!" shouted the main 5 as they were in awe of Blaze's new and bigger dragon as it roared.
"You gonna continue attacking?" taunted Blaze.
"Neos Knight, stand down!" ordered Mario as he gritted his teeth.
The monster heard the command, but it stopped just moments before it was about to connect and backed off. It landed in front of the boy as Blaze had a smile on his face.
"That's what I thought!" stated the Crystal Prep male.
"I end my turn," spoke Mario in a defeated tone.
"That was their best shot, and their momentum got shut down fast," stated Hitch.
Turn 17: Blaze (Hand 1)
"It's my move! And I activate Neo Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon's ability! Using an overlay unit, I can control as many of your monsters as possible. Since we currently have four on our field, I can only take one, but I know which one, Neos Knight!" smiled Blaze as he pointed.
"NO!" said the sibling's friends.
Mario's monster then changed sides as it changed into a copy of Neo Galaxy-Eyes.
"The monster I take changes into Neo Galaxy-Eyes, but it can't attack, and its effects are negated. But that will all change because I play the spell card Galaxy-Eyes Nova! This allows me to exchange a 'Galaxy-Eyes' monster on my field for one in my graveyard. So say goodbye to your Neo Knights and welcome back, Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon!" shouted Blaze as another dragon roared.
"Now he can attack them will all of his monsters since he bypassed his own effect!" exclaimed Sunny.
"You mean..." said the other four as they picked up on what she said.
"Galaxy Brave, attack Spear Shark!" said Blaze as he began his assault and took out one of Roll's monsters.
Mario and Roll's Life Points: 8100-
"Galaxy Stealth Dragon, take out her Silent Angler!"
Mario and Roll's Life Points: 7900-
With Roll's final monster gone, the siblings had nothing to defend from their opponents going straight for them.
"Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon, attack them directly!" ordered Blaze as his first dragon charged up, fired its beam of attack, and hit the siblings, who covered up to protect themselves.
Mario and Roll's Life Points: 4900-
"Neo Galaxy-Eyes, your turn!" shouted the teen.
The second dragon charged up and let loose a more powerful attack. This one sent both siblings flying.
"Ahh!" shouted Mario and Roll as they were lifted off their feet and crashed to the ground simultaneously, each enduring scuffs along their body and clothes.
Mario and Roll's Life Points: 400-
"No!" shouted their friends as they saw the pair lying on the floor.
"This duel is over no matter what card you draw!" smiled Blaze with his hand out and ended his turn.
"Babe, that was hot," said Ursula as she kissed her boyfriend.
The students of CPA were clapping and making some noise as they were taking pride in seeing CHS students about to lose. Celestia and Luna gasped and had their mouths open as they were nervous.
"Tsk, tsk. Well, Celestia, Luna. I hope you have their bags ready. It's such a disappointment. I had high hopes for them, but they didn't inherit his skills." said Sombra as he eyed the siblings. "Well, shall we call this another victory and prove why Crystal Prep is the superior institution?" Sombra holding his hand out for Celestia to accept her defeat to CPA.
Celestia glanced over at Sombra as she looked back at the field. As much as she wanted to stick to the rules, she also didn't want to have Mario and Roll leave. Speaking of the pair, the siblings started to stir as they grunted. Mario and Roll pushed through the pain as they got to their hands and knees and looked up. They saw Blaze and Ursula smiling as their monsters cried to show what they had to endure to win.
"Big bro... no matter what happens. Just know... I'm glad to have at least seen you duel again."
"Roll?"
"I'm glad... I got my brother back, even for a little bit. I love you, Mario," smiled Roll to her older sibling.
The boy couldn't help but gasp and smile at seeing his younger sister.
"I love you too, little sis."
Roll smiled before grunting as she stood up alongside her brother. The two were huffing and puffing as the girl stepped forward to take her turn.
Turn 18: Roll (Hand 1)
"It's... my move," grunted the girl as she tried to ignore the pain. "I play Pot of Greed to draw two cards. Then... the spell card, Surface. Now I can bring back a Water monster. Arise, Spear Shark." said Roll as her monster appeared.
"She's still trying to survive. How cute," taunted Ursula.
"I then play my Double Fin Shark(1000/1200)!" said Roll as her monster appeared, and a copy of it appeared next to it for a second. "Double Fin Shark's ability allows me to treat as 2 monsters when I Xyz Summon."
"What's she doing?" wondered Hitch.
"I overlay my Double Fin Shark and Spear Shark to build the overlay network!" shouted the girl. Her monsters turned into orbs of light as they hovered in the air as a portal opened up. The orbs were sucked in as a pillar of light emerged. "Make way for the killer of my deck! Rise up from the briny depths of the sea! I Xyz Summon, Number 32: Shark Drake(2800/2300, OLU: 2)!" Eyes were shown peering through a surge of water as one growl later, it burst apart to reveal a large shark with black skin and stood on two legs.
"Roll..." called out Mario.
"Shark Drake, attack Galaxy Stealth Dragon! Deep Sea Destruction!" shouted the girl. The creature then unleashed a water beam attack, destroying the monster easily.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 4050-
"Now I activate Shark Drake's ability; whenever it destroys a monster, I can use an overlay unit to bring it back in attack mode, but it loses 1000 attack points, and... my Shark Drake can attack it again!"
Galaxy Stealth Dragon returned to its original 2000 points but was weakened by Shark Drake's effect as the giant sea shark fired another beam and took it out a second time.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 2250-
"I did all I could. I end my turn," said Roll.
Turn 19: Ursula (Hand 2)
"That was it? Your big comeback. Ha!" chuckled Ursula as Blaze began to chuckle with his girlfriend. "Time to send you two packing. I draw! And the card I drew will do just that. I play Polymerization and combine my Fluffal Bear with my Fluffal Sheep and Edge Imp Chain in my hand!" All three monsters appeared before entering the vortex behind the girl as orange and purple lights mixed. "Prepare to meet the monster that will seal your fate! I Fusion Summon! Dangerous Frightfur Nightmary(2000/3000)!"
Out came a monster as it was a horrified doll, and screeched like a banshee. Nearly all the CHS students tried to look away from the creepy monster.
"I activate my monster's ability. It gains 300 attack points for every Fairy and Fiend in my graveyard. And I have eleven, which means it gains 3300 more points!" said Ursula as her monster powered up (2000 → 5300).
"5300! That's the strongest monster on the field!" stated Hitch.
"It can't be over..." stated Izzy, saddened to hear her friends would be gone.
"Frightfur Nightmary, end this! Attack Shark Drake!" shouted Ursula as she gave her command.
The monster prepped its attack as time seemed to slow down. Sunny and the others leaned forward as their companions were about to be suspended. Celestia and Luna all had sad looks, as even the Vice-Principal felt bad that she came up with this idea.
"I reveal my facedown! Final Offering!" yelled Roll as she flipped over the last card she set a while back. "Now I can end the Battle Phase by giving one card in my hand to another player. Big bro, it's all yours!"
Roll took the only card in her hand and tossed it to her brother. The card traveled as Mario caught it in one hand and turned it over. His eyes gasped at the card his sister gave him as a huge wave of water was used as a barricade to end Ursula's attack.
"I hate you!" said the girl as she had no more moves left to make and had to end her turn. Her monster lost its power boost as it remained by her side.
She was content as all they had to do was wait for Mario to finish whatever last desperate move to make before her boyfriend would command his powerful dragon to end them.
Everyone let out a breath they didn't know they were holding in as they were relieved to see that the siblings still had a chance. Now... it was all up to Mario. The boy looked at the card his sister gave him as he tried to comprehend why she gave him this card. He looked up at her and only got a nod, meaning Roll trusted her brother to win this. Mario nodded, knowing he never let her down when his sister counted on him to come through. And he wasn't going to start now.
Turn 20: Mario (Hand 5)
"This is gonna be the final turn!" declared Mario.
"You're right... for you two, that is," scoffed Blaze.
Okay, deck. I know it's been a while since we last connected. But all I'm asking is just a little faith. Can you do that for me?
Mario closed his eyes and put his hand on his deck as he took a deep breath. The boy opened his eyes as he drew.
"I draw! I'll play the card that my sister gave me, Monster Reborn! Now I can bring back any monster I want! And I choose... Elemental HERO Neos!" said Mario as his partner monster appeared.
"What's he got cooking?" asked Pipp.
"Next, I play Polymerization to combine Elemental HERO Avian and Elemental HERO Burstinatrix. I Fusion Summon, Elemental HERO Flame Wingman(2100/1200)!" shouted Mario as a fiery man with a bird-like helmet and wings and a claw on his right hand emerged.
"Where's he going with this?" wondered Hitch.
"I play Fusion Sage! And this allows me to add a Polymerization to my hand!" said Mario as his card changed to reveal the card he mentioned.
"A double Fusion Summon?" said Pipp.
"I play Polymerization to fuse Neos and Flame Wingman!" shouted the boy as his two monsters combined once more; a shining bright light was shown. "Meet... Elemental HERO Shining Neos Wingman(3100/2500)!" The bright light soon ended as it revealed a warrior donned in armor of white with hints of gold at its joints. The gauntlets it wore had a sword pop out as it took a pose.
"My Shining Neos Wingman gains 300 extra attack points for every monster in my graveyard!" said Mario as his Duel Disk began shining brightly. "Time for a HERO roll cal!" One by one, all of Mario's monsters appeared by his side. They all stared down the monsters on the opposite side as Mario's stuck his hand out. "I have nine HEROs in my grave for 2700 attack points (3100 → 5800)."
"5800 attack points!" said Sunny and the others.
Mario's HEROs all transferred their power to Shining Neos Wingman as he felt the power surge. The boy looked at his monster as he nodded and gave the command.
"Shining Neos Wingman, attack Neo Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon!" shouted the boy.
His monster spread its wings out and took to the air. The dragon tried to fire some beams to counter, but the winged warrior used his sword to cut through the attack as it pushed back against the beam. It soon reached the dragon and, with one slash, left a mark on its chest as many lights were coming out of it before it exploded. Blaze and Ursula covered their face as they saw the boy's dragon was defeated.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 950-
"Shining Neos Wingman's ability activates. When it destroys a monster in battle, it then deals you damage equal to its attack points!"
Blaze and Ursula had their eyes widen as they saw Shining Neos Wingman before them. He put his hand out as he shot a beam of energy at them. The two teens were flung back and cried as they hit the floor hard.
Blaze and Ursula's Life Points: 0-
Winner: Mario and Roll
The duel ended as the remaining monsters on the field disappeared. Mario and Roll looked at each other before a roar erupted. The students of CHS began to cheer as Luna and Celestia couldn't help but jump out of their seats as the former swatted away Sombra's hand.
"Ladies and gentlemen. Your winners, Mario and his sister Roll!" said Celestia into the mic.
The cheers got even louder as the pair took it in.
"We did it, big bro."
"We did... together."
Roll smiled before she started dropping before Mario caught her and slung her arm over his shoulder. The boy then shifted so that he was shown carrying his sister in a piggyback as they each waved to the crowd.
Well, well, you've impressed, you two. Maybe you do have it, after all.
Sombra stood up from his chair and put his hands together as he respected the pair. Cadance did the same, which caused the other CPA students to reluctantly clap at the pair for winning.
"Way to go, guys!" shouted Sunny to the pair.
"I'm getting more impressed by them every day," said Pipp.
"I'm just happy Mario gets to stay here," said Zipp.
"Mario and Roll, you mean," said Hitch to the girl.
"Well, yes, Roll too, of course. I just said Mario because... uh, moving on," said Zipp as she was fumbling over her words and trying to change the subject to get rid of the red on her face.
"Party in the school auditorium!" announced Izzy as everyone cheered for that.
The auditorium was full of lights and music as the students from both schools enjoyed the party. Mario was shown leaning against a wall as he had his deck spread out in his hands. The boy looked at his monsters as a smile popped, reminding him of his comrades who would stand by their master.
"Congrats!" said a voice.
The boy put his cards away as he was charged at by Pipp, who immediately wrapped her arms around the boy she had a crush on. He almost fell but kept his balance to avoid the girl falling on him.
"Thanks," said Mario as he tried to loosen some of Pipp's grip before she let him go.
"For a second there, I thought we'd never see you two again," said Izzy as the others approached him and Roll, who arrived just moments after them.
"We'd never say goodbye without a proper farewell," responded Roll.
"Nice work, bud," said Hitch.
"Appreciate it," responded Mario as the two shared a quick bro hug.
"So, does this mean your brother got his smile back?" asked Sunny as they looked at Mario, who was talking with Hitch about some guy stuff.
"In a way, yeah."
"You were right. He came through. How did you know he would?" asked Zipp as she asked the girl.
"He's my brother. I know him better than anybody. Plus... he's always there for me," smiled Roll.
"Izzy, get away!" shouted Mario as the girl was trying shown reaching for his deck as she wanted to look at them. The boy kept his arm out and away from her as she tried to climb on him and get them. "Izzy!"
"Please, I promise I won't damage them. I just want to see all the cool action heroes you have!" said the girl as she was trying to climb on top of Mario to get his deck.
Roll, Sunny, and Zipp all shook their heads as they smiled. Celestia was shown watching the group of friends from the stage as she had a drink in her hand. She took a sip as she was joined by someone as she felt their presence.
"I have to hand it to you, Tia. Those two are definitely ones to keep an eye on," said Sombra.
"Yes, they are," the woman smiled as she looked at the man who raised her drink. "A toast."
"As I'd deny such a request from an elegant and lovely lady like yourself," responded Sombra.
"To a better tomorrow..." started Celestia.
"... And till the last card is drawn," finished Sombra as the pair touched their drinks before sipping.
"So... the next time we meet will no doubt be when it happens?" asked Celestia with sly eyebrows.
"You'd better be ready for Crystal Prep to achieve victory as always," responded Sombra in the same flirty tone as the principal of CHS.
"Well, that remains to be seen," said Celestia as she also flirted with the principal of CPA.
"Pardon me, but I have a call to make," said Sombra as he excused himself. "It pains me to leave your side for even a second."
"I'll be waiting," said Celestia as she played along.
Sombra was shown walking behind the stage curtain as he pulled out his phone. He touched the screen, and it began to dial one of the contacts. He held it up to his ear as it rang before it was answered.
"So... did they win?"
"It was as you said," responded Sombra as he peeked out to spot the two siblings with their friends as they made plans. "But are you sure you didn't want to duel them?"
"I have my reasons, Mr. Sombra. Don't worry, I'll see them soon. Maybe then, we'll face each other." said the voice.
"You are my #1 student, after all."
"I can't wait to see them," said the voice as they appeared genuinely happy and looking forward to seeing the siblings.
Author's Note: What a banger. And both Mario and Roll were able to win their stay and avoid being suspended. Though the question remains of who is Sombra's #1 student at CPA that chose not to participateagainst the siblings. Feel free to make some guesses as to who they could be as we'll see them when another event will take place. And it's revealed what kind of deck Mario has as he has a deck full of HEROs.
Also as a side note, I watched all of Chapter 4 yesterday and it exceeded my expectations greatly. Now I have more stuff to work with and some ideas that I was planning that the show confirmed. Anyways, that's just a little sidenote. Hope the chapter had you entertained.
