"Thirdspace?" Are you serious?!" Xander exclaimed.
"Does that mean something to you, Xander?" Jenny asked.
"It means something to many of us." Tor answered, as Xander began to pace. "Some of us were already fans of Babylon 5, others of us watched it to help understand what Xander's been teaching us."
"Thirdspace was an attempt, more then a million years ago, by the Vorlons, to open a portal to Heaven." Xander told her. "Whistler told us the Vorlons and Shadows don't exist in this reality, if that's true, how can the Thirdspace portal be here?"
"I take it, it actually doesn't open into Heaven or a heavenly after life?" Jenny asked.
"No." Xander said grimly. "It opened into a Hell dimension. One populated by telepathic creatures who immediately hated the mere existance of any other lifeform and began trying to corrupt the Vorlons. This was before they started sheparding the younger races, by the way. Once they realized what was happening, the Vorlons tried to destroy the portal. Those that had been corrupted managed to hide it."
"Hide it where?" Jenny asked.
"Hyperspace, another dimension."
"Than it may not be here in this reality." Jenny began to theorize. "The Magic build up that we're feeling may be an attempt, using Magic, to pull it into our reality. That would require a massive working of Magic. The people feeling compelled to go to this city and open the door, may be the ones working the Magic. Thousands of people contributing could be enough to actually do it, open the door and let them in."
"Why aren't the rest of us feeling compelled to help?" One of the girls asked. "The blocks Xander put into our mind? Or the magical protections Jenny and Amy put up?"
"At the very least, they're slowing it down." Xander decided. "But we may still end up affected. That thing needs to be destroyed, preferably before it's opened, because closing it may be impossible."
"Destroying it may be impossible." Tor pointed out. "The Vorlons damaged it, but it was hidden before they could destroy it. In the movie, it was opened and Sheridan took a thermonuclear bomb inside and set it off. It shut it down and cut off the telepathic contact, but didn't destroy it."
"Whistler said the barriers between our reality and the one I ended up in were weak and that caused a bleed though effect that had an impact on our reality." Xander said. "Babylon 5's creator may well be a visionary, more in tune with that bleed though effect. If the Magic build up is an attempt to bring it into our reality, then our best bet is to disrupt that attempt. Hell, I'm going to quote the show again, problems are solved in pieces. We stop the build up of Magic so they can't pull it into this reality. Jenny and Amy, research how to send it back if we fail. And a Magic way to destroy it just in case."
"How are we going to stop the Magic build up?" Heidi asked. "Jenny and Amy and to a certain extent, Giles, are Magic users, none of the rest of us are, beyond being able to put up a basic protection, I mean. Oh."
"Exactly." Xander smiled. "A protective barrier around the area where they're working the Magic to keep their Magic out."
"There are a lot fewer of us than there are of them." One of the boys pointed out. "Maybe a hundred to one at this point, counting the people in Los Angeles being affected."
"We're always outnumbered." Xander reminded them. "There are always fewer hunters, hunting vampires, than there are vampires. But we do more damage to their numbers then they do to ours. We knew from the beginning, we could die protecting Sunnydale, protecting the world. I've never lied to any of you, you've always known that."
"No, you haven't" Heidi agreed. "Valen created the Anla'Shok, Valen was Jeffrey Sinclair, a human of Earth who went back in time. We stand on the bridge and none may pass. We're about to become a modern version of the Spartans. Hell, we already are."
"I can lead you in putting up the barrier." Giles said. "I can harness and direct your efforts. Oz and Willow can stay here and help Jenny and Amy research."
"No." Jenny said. "You're staying here and helping with the research. This portal is technology and I am a technopagan, I can direct the protections far more effectively than you can."
"She's right, Giles." Xander made the call. "We're going to need her out there, not in here. "
Giles opened his mouth to protest and then closed it. "Stay safe and come back to me." Was all he said.
"I love you too, Rupert." Jenny smiled at him.
"While you guys are doing that, I'm going to get something else, just in case." Xander told them.
"What?" Cordelia asked. "And don't you mean, we? We're partners!"
"Not this time, Cordy. They need all the help they can get to build that protective field and you have abilities of your own, you can help as much as Jenny. And I can move faster on my own."
"What are you going to do?"
"Steal the biggest bomb the National Guard Base has and make it bigger with a few extra ingredients in the proper proportions."
