In the skyline of a well-lit city at night, a figure stands at the edge of a rooftop, observing the distant streets down below. From the being's point of view, this city is quite advanced, especially when compared to the other human cities it has seen. They sigh and crouch on their knees while still on the edge. "Halcyon, the humans, the Digimon, after all these years I'm still impressed at how they coexist." They say to themselves. They gaze upon the brightly lit streets of Halcyon, every movement and action by the inhabitants monitored. They closely examine anything that could be a disturbance to the city, as they feel a need to protect everyone who populates the city. This being is a Digimon as well, a female Renamon. However, unlike the Digimon in this city, Renamon doesn't have a Tamer of any kind. No human or Digimon is even aware of her existence. Despite her humanoid foxlike appearance, she is quite beautiful to lay eyes on, with her feminine curves, crystal blue eyes, and bright gold fur. Renamon stands up and suddenly turns invisible, her stunning figure vanishing from sight.

While Renamon has gone from the rooftop, other tales are told elsewhere in the large city of Halcyon. In the middle of the night, two eager boys snuck out of their homes and went to a large advanced-looking pillar located in Halcyon Park. Inside, the two are in a room filled with rows of machines built into the ground with buttons and a screen. The boys wear goggles and stand on opposite ends of the machine with small devices connected to a slot. They seem to be eagerly watching something through their goggles. Although their eyes are covered, their mouths show all their current emotions, one boy smiles while the other frowns. Finally, the machine screens start to beep, and the smiling boy throws his arms up cheering. The other boy sighs as his arms drop down. They both take off their goggles. "Wow, that was a great battle Ben," One of the boys said. "Yeah, that sure was something else, Jack." Ben says not sounding nearly as happy. The two take out the devices and press a button on them. As the screens of their devices glow, bits of data are released from the devices, which merge to form two Digimon, the birdlike Hawkmon and pure stone Gotsumon. "You did great, Hawkmon!" Jack cheered along with his Digimon. Despite their defeat, Ben and Gotsumon gave reassuring smiles to each other. "Well, better luck next time I guess." Ben told Gotsumon. "That's the spirit, Ben." Replied Gotsumon. With their battle now over, the two boys and their Digimon leave the pillar.

As the two humans and two Digimon walk alongside each other in the dark park, a mysterious purple fog starts to seep in through the trees slowly and obscure the grass ground and park pathway. The four notice this and stop to observe the strange fog now surrounding them. "What is this?" Jack says. "I don't know, but it doesn't look good," Ben replies. Hawkmon begins to sense something and starts flying in circles around Jack. "I think we need to get out of here." Hawkmon states to Jack's face. Suddenly, from the fog, a giant beast emerges roaring as it faces the boys and their Digimon. It's Kuwagamon, a Virus-Type Insect Digimon. It's quite big, taller than the trees in the park. Kuwagamon is coated in red armor and possesses four arms and hands adorned with three sharp claws on each of its arms. While it seems to lack eyes, it does possess large and sharp pinchers around its mouth. Kuwagamon threatens the two boys and their Digimon, slowly approaching them. "What is that?!" Jack shouts. "Look at the size of it!" says Ben staring in horror at Kuwagamon. "Get lost you horrible virus!" Hawkmon shouts spreading his wings out, attempting to protect Jack. "Leave our Tamers alone!" Gotsumon says, guarding Ben. Kuwagamon stares at the two small Digimon and laughs in a demonic tone. Before they can react, Kuwagamon easily snatches Hawkmon and Gotsumon off the ground into its claws. "No! Let them go!" Jack and Ben say in near unison watching their Digimon in peril. As Kuwagamon prepares to crush the two Digimon, something suddenly strikes the insect Digimon from behind. Hawkmon and Gotsumon fall from Kuwagamon's hands and onto the ground in front of their tamers, who crouch down to protect them. "Hawkmon, are you all right?" asks Jack. "Look!" Ben suddenly shouts. Something lands in front of the four, staring down Kuwagamon with its back turned. It's none other than Renamon, who is keeping her word true and protecting the boys and their Digimon from harm. "Go, all of you," Renamon says without looking at the boys or their Digimon. Without questioning anything, Jack, Ben, and their Digimon stand and start running away. Kuwagamon stares back at Renamon, the large bug and pretty fox ready to fight.

"All right, big boy, let's see what you got." Renamon says before proceeding to charge Kuwagamon swiftly. The insect Digimon manages to block her attack with its big, sharp pinchers, then tries to trap her between them. Renamon is quick to counter, however, blocking the two pinchers with her hands and preventing them from clamping shut on her. As Renamon's strength outshines Kuwagamon's, she raises her leg and her foot glows blue. "Power Paw!" She smashes Kuwagamon in the mouth and escapes his pinchers, chipping a sharp tooth of his. Wailing in pain, Kuwagamon fails to locate Renamon on the ground, as she has turned invisible and is sneakily traveling towards a tree and then runs up it. Leaping from a branch and becoming visible again, she spreads her limbs out wide and cries out "Diamond Storm!". Several glowing sharp shards emerge around Renamon's front body and launch towards Kuwagamon." This will end you." Renamon says feeling smug. But Kuwagamon manages to surprise her, and rapidly slashes its claws, destroying all the shards as they explode. "What?!" A shocked Renamon shouts. From the smoke, Kuwagamon charges straight at Renamon and stabs her directly through her lower stomach with its pincer. Kuwagamon lands on the ground, Renamon still pierced by its pincer. Renamon screams, feeling a horrific level of pain. Her eyes are wide open, and she feels a truly unbearable burning sensation. The only things coming out of Renamon are painful grunts and growls. Kuwagamon tries to crush Renamon between its pinchers again. However, despite her pain and agony, Renamon's sheer determination allows her to clamp her shaking hands onto Kuwagamon's pinchers and begin using her remaining strength to push them away from her. It's not an easy task, as Kuwagamon's strength slowly but surely starts to overpower Renamon, and the pinchers close in on her. Renamon knew she couldn't give up; she simply wouldn't allow it. If she gave up, if she had even a shred of doubt or loosened her grip just a bit, those pinchers would clamp shut, and her digital life would be over. Suddenly, just when death is just an inch away, something inside Renamon snaps. Anger, boiling into pure determination rises, and Renamon starts to become truly in focus. "No, I won't let you win!" Struggling through her pain, Renamon's strength increases, and she successfully starts to push the pinchers away from her. Before Kuwagamon can comprehend what is happening, Renamon hands glow blue. "Power Palm!" she slams her glowing fists down onto the pinchers. Kuwagamon's pinchers completely explode and collapse off its face as it screeches in pain. Renamon lands on her feet, quickly grabbing the piece from the pincher that was still stabbing her and pulling it out, resisting the urge to yell from the pain. Before Kuwagamon can recover, Renamon jumps straight at Kuwagamon. Her feet glow and she put her legs together to strike a powerful double Power Paw kick into Kuwagamon's stomach. Flying off from her attack, Renamon initiates her Diamond Storm attack once more. Bigger and brighter shards emerge and fly straight for Kuwagamon, who is unable to dodge them this time. The explosive shards cause catastrophic damage and injury to Kuwagamon, who is just about to fall, but not before Renamon charges through the smoke straight at Kuwagamon. Yelling and performing a Power Palm attack, her fist strikes Kuwagamon's head hard, smashing it. The insect Digimon ceases its cries, and the big beast falls over on its back as Renamon lands safely. Kuwagamon's body goes limp, and its large body dissolves into data that starts to scatter into the air.

Renamon pants very heavily and shakes, still badly injured from being stabbed as she clutches her wounded stomach. "I need that data." Renamon said struggling to stand properly. Renamon approaches the clump of data and spreads her arms out, allowing all the data to trail toward her. She absorbs the data as it surrounds her, each bit going into her body one at a time. Renamon sighs and closes her eyes, the data not only heals her injury but grants her more power. Eventually, all the data is completely absorbed by Renamon, and she feels relieved to have won the battle. However, she still feels exhausted from her close fight as she bends down a bit and puts her paws on her big thighs. "I Did it. Urgh." Renamon groans. The victorious vixen tries to walk forward a few steps, but her exhaustion grows, and she collapses onto her knees. She starts to feel weary and disoriented like she might pass out. "Can't pass out." Renamon then sights a nearby bridge built in the park above a river and slowly crawls towards it. "Almost there." Renamon gets closer to the bridge while on the ground, her body aching more and more. She finally reaches the bridge and goes under it, lying sprawled on a patch of rocks between the river and the sidewall of the bridge. Renamon closes her eyes and passes out under the bridge with an exhausted groan.

Digimon usually don't sleep, as they don't have the crucial need to like humans do. However, as Renamon goes unconscious, she is forced into a sleeping state. In her unconscious mind, Renamon starts to have a dream. In the same park that Renamon currently sleeps in, the vixen stands observing her lush green surroundings. "So, this is Halcyon. It's so much different than what I was expecting." She quietly speaks to herself. Suddenly, she hears a cry for help along with a sickening roar. "Oh No." Renamon rushes over to the scene of the outbursts, and sees a small boy, being threatened by a large sea serpent-like creature that has risen from a river. "Help!" The boy screams as the serpent's sharp teeth loom over him. Thinking fast, Renamon leaps high into the air and shouts "Diamond Storm!". As the crystal shards strike the serpent and explode, every surrounding in her dream is obscured by a bright white light. The light finally starts to recede, and it appears that the serpent has fled down the river and Renamon is now comforting the boy. "Are you all right, human?" Renamon asks the boy, whose face is blurry, as Renamon doesn't appear to remember what he looks like. "Yeah, thanks a lot!" The boy responds in a happy tone. "I want to give you this!" The boy takes something from his basket and hands it to Renamon, it's a rose flower he plucked. "Thank you, human. You should get going now, you will be safer." As the boy runs off, Renamon stares at this flower for what seems like ages to her. Then, her eyes open wide, and she awakens and is still lying under the bridge, hidden from view.

"I won, and that's all that matters." Renamon reflects on what happened last night. As the sun has risen, the once quiet and empty park is now teeming with humans and Digimon, many walk on the bridge Renamon lies under. "I can't be seen, better sneak out of here." Renamon then turns invisible and easily sneaks out from under the bridge. She travels a short distance while still invisible, eventually turning visible on top of a tall building, and looking down onto the vast city. Renamon thinks about the battle last night, her mind dwindling on how tough it was. Even though she won, she passed out due to the beating she took. "I can't let anything like that happen again. I won't lose, I refuse to lose," she says, clenching her paws into fists. Renamon sighs and continues to speak to herself. "I need to grow stronger. To protect these people, I must digivolve." Renamon then looks guilty. "But I must find a human partner to do so." Renamon seems rather hesitant regarding this idea. "They deserve me to keep them safe. But I feel I do not deserve them." She speaks. "What shall I do?" Renamon sits down on the edge of the rooftop, continuing to look down and think to herself.
