Digimon: Flashback!
*Digimon: Flashback! Is a story split into parts; it will delve into previously untouched subjects, like how Naiyuta and Kurisu first met Wraith and the Dark Arms generals' unique pasts. To see what the Generals look like, look at my drawings on Deviantart(Shikabane-O).
Naiyuta and Kurisu
Chapter 1
The scene begins directly after Naiyuta and Kurisu were defeated by Ryo and Cyberdramon. The two enter their mother's house. A knot quickly builds in Naiyuta's stomach.
Mother: Where were you two this time?! Honestly, don't you realize that you can't just go off and do whatever you want all the time?! How many times have I had this conversation with you?
Naiyuta: Why not?
Mother: What, what did you just say to me?!
Naiyuta swings back around and screams at her mother.
Naiyuta: I said… WHY NOT?! Why do we always have to do what you want us to do?! Why can't we just live our own lives like normal-
Naiyuta is silenced as her mother's hand comes across her face with a smack.
Mother: How can you be so ungrateful, look at you.
She takes the shades off of the shook up Naiyuta's face.
Mother: Really, it's like I don't even recognize the two of you anymore.
Their mother walks away as Naiyuta looks at the ground to her left. Kurisu looks sympathetically in her direction but she ignores him.
Naiyuta: (Ungrateful? Tsch, we live in a prison.)
It flashes back to before her and Kurisu met Wraith. The scene opens at their school with Kurisu immediately being kicked against a locker. Naiyuta gets down and puts an arm in front of him defensively.
Bully 1: What's this, protecting this little twerp?
Kurisu: S-sis…
He says through his bloodied lip.
Naiyuta: Shut up, I'll take care of these guys.
Bully 2: Hahaha, that's funny princess, what, your daddy gonna sue us?
Bully3: Good one!
Bully 1: Listen here, you think just because your families rich you can walk around like you own the place.
Bully 4: That's right, because we do.
Kurisu: What?! But I wasn't-
Naiyuta starts to shake with anger, clenching her fists.
Bully 1: What, you gonna cry?!
The lead bully turns his head and laughs with his friends. Without warning Naiyuta lunges forward punching the boy across the face. The next scene cuts to her and Kurisu sitting in two chairs at home. Both of them are riddled with bruises and cuts.
Mother: I just got off the phone with the principal, do you even know how lucky you are that you weren't expelled?! And you-
She looks at Naiyuta whose face is down cast.
Mother: What am I going to do with you? Look I know it's been hard for the two of you after the divorce and moving, but you know you aren't going to make any friend by going around starting fights with people!
Naiyuta: But I-I didn't…
Mother: Not another word.
Naiyuta puts her head back down.
Mother: Now, both of you get dressed, I'm still expecting you to go to soccer practice and I'm going to hire a tutor for the time you spend outside of school.
Kurisu nods, Naiyuta keeps looking down as their mother disappears down the hall. Their attention is brought to the television set, their mother had forgotten to turn off on her way out of the room. A News report comes in-
Reporter: It has come to our attention that a group of young teens calling themselves "The Dark Arms" have been surfacing more and more frequently and have attacked civilians.
Images flash across the screen of boys and girls stealing and destroying buildings with easy. Naiyuta and Kurisu watch with starry eyes, no adults tell the Dark Arms what to do, they do as they please, go where they please, and best of all, they have digimon who follow their every command.
Reporter: Reports find that each member is accompanied by a creature known as a "Digimon", whether they have any connection to "The D-Reaper" incident is currently unknown. Again, these children are to be considered dangerous and civilians are advised to avoid making contact with them under any circumstances.
Kurisu: Wouldn't it be great if we had Digimon, sis? Then we could do whatever we want! No one could tell us what to do.
Chapter 2
Later that night, Kurisu is awoken by his sister, who is getting dressed by the bed next to him.
Kurisu: What are you doing?!
Naiyuta: I'm going to go catch a Digimon.
Kurisu: I'm going to!
Naiyuta: No its too dangerous, go back to sleep.
Kurisu looks down in disappointment before turning to his side. Naiyuta makes her way to the door but stops when her brother says:
Kurisu: Naiyuta…
Naiyuta: yeah?
Kurisu: Come back safe.
Naiyuta: Hnm.
She nods. Naiyuta stops at a dimly lit street corner.
Naiyuta: (Where should I go? I never real even stopped to think about where a Digimon might be hiding.)
A loud crash can be heard from the garbage dump behind her.
Naiyuta: Maybe…
She runs up to the entrance, but there's a pad lock on the gate.
Naiyuta: damn!
She looks right and then left a few times and notices a small gap near the bottom of the fence. Naiyuta barely manages to squeeze under and through to the other side.
Naiyuta: Where did that sound come from?
She hears more pieces of metal and debris hit the ground to the east.
Naiyuta: That way…
She runs down the various paths until finally she comes to a dead end. The area is circular in shape with a totaled car at its center.
Naiyuta: Digimon, come out if your there!
An avalanche of trash came down from the pile in front of her revealing a fiery lizard like creature.
Naiyuta: Listen, y-you a-are going to be my Digimon u-understand?!
The digivice comes up.
Digivice: Flarerizamon, a champion level, fire dragon Digimon.
The creature looks at her for a moment, but doesn't seem to register what she said. As the it lets out a howl Naiyuta comes to the realization that she never stopped to think about what she would actually do once she found the Digimon. A chill goes up her spine as the growling Digimon comes closer.
Naiyuta: Y-you understand, don't you? I-I…
She's silenced by another deep howl. She's can't move she's been paralyzed by fear.
Kurisu: Hey, dino over here!
Her brother comes running past her and to the right side of the circle waving his arms in the air.
Naiyuta: What are you doing here!?
Kurisu: I followed you here!
The Flarerizamon looks in Kurisu's direction until Naiyuta screams at him too confusing it.
Naiyuta over here!
Kurisu starts to climb up the trash walls and reaches the top, slipping a few times as some trash falls from its place. He quickly grabs a piece of metal and tosses it against the Flarerizamon's head to get it away from his sister. As it turns around Naiyuta grabs a metal bar and bashes it against its leg. The Digimon angrily smacks her against the ground with its left arm before turning around to look at Kurisu. As it comes closer Kurisu kicks and stomps the trash underneath him causing it to come down on the Flarerizamon. Naiyuta gets off the ground as Kurisu slides down the wall of trash next to his sister.
Both: We did it!
The two smile while holding hands and jumping up and down. The monsters arm can be seen sticking out of the trash. Without warning it bursts from the trash heap charging at them madder than before.
Naiyuta: No way!
The two hold one another, screaming, this is it, they are about to die.
Chapter 3
Kazuya: Holy shot!
A Unimon comes behind the two of them and attacks the Flarerizamon.
Kazuya: Hinamori, now!
Hinamori: Death Hand, Devimon!
The Devimon flies to the left side of the beast and unleashes the attack.
Kazuya: Kaida!
A cherrymon moves the right side across from the Devimon.
Kaida: Vine attack!
Its vines wrap around its neck to stop it from moving.
Kazuya: Tenma-
Tenma: Yeah, yeah, I know!
A Fugamon falls from the sky bringing its club down on the Flarerizamon's head, obliterating the foe.
Fugamon: Heavy stick!
They all watch as the Digimon's data disperses. All four Digimon move forward and absorb its data.
Tenma: What were you two idiots thinking trying to take on a Digimon?!
Naiyuta: W-we…we…
Tenma: Tsch, not even a thank you.
They all begin to walk away, but Kazuya turns around to face Kurisu and Naiyuta.
Kazuya: You're safe now, go home.
The two watch the four Dark Arms members walk away, but Naiyuta can't let it end like this.
Naiyuta: W-Wait! We want to join you! We want to become Dark Arms members!
They turn around with looks of surprise.
Tenma: You've got to be kidding?! You losers almost got yourselves killed!
They all turn towards Kazuya, who is smiling.
Kazuya: I think we should let them join.
Other three: WHAT?!
Kazuya: Yeah… it's been decided; from this day on you are Dark Arms recruits.
Naiyuta and Kurisu stand their smiling for a while, they had done it, they became members, they were finally going to be free. Next morning they are sitting at the table having breakfast.
Mother: I'm leaving, make sure to study, and don't forget your piano lessons!
Kurisu looks at Naiyuta and they both run outside onto the streets. Naiyuta thinks back to last night.
Naiyuta: (Kazuya: Meet us at the place we discussed under the bridge.)
After at least a half hour of walking the two finally make it to the bridge.
Kurisu: Is this the place?
Naiyuta: Yeah, but there doesn't appear to be anybody here…
Kazuya: Down here!
Below the bridge there is a huge pipe leading into the sewers. They make their way down the hill and meet up with the others.
Tenma: Tsch, you come here dressed like THAT?!
They look at each other; they are dressed like two total squares.
Kurisu: But this is what we always wear.
Tenma: Here puts these on, they should fit the two of you. We can't have our members walking around dressing like that.
She hands Kurisu an orange sweatshirt, a pair of green pants, round shades, and a cap. She gives Naiyuta a black trench coat, a pair of black pants, and a pair of shades.
Tenma: And put your hair down! You're not supposed to look like some prissy school girl.
Tenma goes to undue her hair.
Naiyuta: The hair STAYS.
Tenma: Fine.
She says putting her hands in front of herself in a "fine, be that way" position.
Kurisu: So what is everyone waiting for?
Hinamori: Watch.
A black hole suddenly opens up in the sewer pipe.
Kurisu: No way!
Kaida: Pretty cool, huh?
As they enter the portal everything turns black. As their eyes adjust they find themselves coming out of a sewer pipe and onto a beach.
Chapter 4
Naiyuta: Uh, where's the sun in this place?
Kazuya: There is none.
Tenma: This is the Dark Area, duh.
Kurisu: Dark Area?
Kazuya: It's basically our headquarters and it's also where you're going to be training.
They are intercepted by a hulking ape of a boy accompanied by an Allomon. He looks out of place, he is at least 4 years older than everyone else, about 16.
Ijime: Who are these two!?
Everyone remains silent until Kazuya walks up front.
Kazuya: They're new recruits, don't worry I cleared-
Ijime: You don't have that kind of authority, Kazuya! You can't just go off and do whatever you want like that.
Kazuya: Am I not the leader of this group?
Ijime: Grrr. Whatever, they probably won't even last a week here!
He walks away. Naiyuta and Kurisu's hearts are pounding.
Kaida: Don't worry about that guy, he's just a jerk.
Naiyuta: Who is he?
Kazuya: Ijime, he's a recruiter… but don't worry, you probably won't end up with him.
Kurisu: Good, that guy's scary.
Hinamori gives Kurisu a playful jab.
Hinamori: Hey, your Dark Arms now, you have to toughen up.
Tenma: So are we gonna assign them their Digimon or what?!
Kazuya: Always in such a rush, let's go.
They stop in front of a group of children lined up like soldiers in two square shapes, five by five. There is what looks to be a small metal press box in front, which everyone is facing. Kazuya and his group moves off to the side.
Kazuya: Go ahead and get in line.
The two rush into the groups, Naiyuta can't help but notice Ijime standing next to the press box with his Allomon. The first child comes forward; a pair of glowing yellow eyes can be seen in the darkness of the press box. Ijime comes up to the darkness and puts and ear close then turns to the boy, gives him a Digivice and says something to him. The boy turns around goes past the lines and toward the black ocean. Everyone turns to look, Kazuya moves closer to Naiyuta.
Kazuya: He's being assigned his digimon.
Everyone watches intently as the boy bends down to look into the water. Then suddenly for no reason, the water starts to ripple, and an image can be seen. A blue glow encompasses the image and then-
Airdramon: RAAaaaaaaaawwwhhnn!
A living breathing Airdramon comes up from the water, the boy puts up his digivice and energy passes from one another. The Digimon immediately drops down next to the boy calm as can be. Eventually, after a long while it is Naiyuta and Kurisu's turn. As they both move up the silhouette with yellow eyes seems intrigued, leaning forward slightly. Ijime moves up to the empty spot where the glass would be and listens.
Ijime: You two are going to try something a bit different.
Naiyuta: What do you mean?
Ijime: It means that there are two special Digimon for you two twerps. But don't get your hopes up these two Digimon haven't accepted anyone so far and their definitely not going to accept you two losers!
He puts a finger under her chin, but she shakes it away. The two make their way to the ocean and look into it, suddenly two figures appear in the waters reflection. One looks like an overweight aqua colored Veemon with metal gloves and face mask while the other looks like a purple bird-like creature with a matching golden face mask and golden wings. The two look almost like fraternal twins of some kind one with a blue light around its image and the other with a purple light around its image. Ijime flashes an arrogant grin from back at the press box. The smirk is slapped off his face when the two Digimon come from the water and stop by their prospective tamers.
Ijime: What?! How could they choose those two losers!? GRRRrr
Naiyuta and Kurisu come back smiling. Ijime grudgingly takes the two Digivices from the press box and gives them to the two.
Ijime: This doesn't change anything; you wimps won't make it past the trials.
Naiyuta grabs her Digivice from him.
Naiyuta: We'll see about that.
She gives a cold hard stare back at him. She puts up her arm and Kurisu follows.
Naiyuta: Vulturemon!
Kurisu: Metalshiboumon!
The digimon disappear into their Digivices.
Chapter 5
3Weeks later: Naiyuta and Kurisu had been running of into the Dark Area for training every day when they had time. Naiyuta and Kurisu had been assigned to Ijime, much to their dismay.
Ijime: Alright you rookies! Line up!
Everyone lines up.
Ijime: Today you are going to run laps!
Every day it seemed that they were running and to make matters worse it affected Kurisu's asthma. After 15 minutes of running Kurisu starts to feel the effects, wheezing and coughing. She stops and puts a hand on his shoulder.
Naiyuta: Are you alright?
Ijime: Keep running slackers!
Naiyuta gives him a dirty look. Ijime just puts his face closer with a grin.
Ijime: Got a problem with that?
She grits her teeth but calms herself back down.
Naiyuta: No.
She pushes Kurisu forward albeit at a slower pace. The next scene shows her sitting on her bed while Kurisu continues to wheeze on his. She looks down at her Digivice.
Naiyuta: (I did this so I could be free, but instead I just feel more trapped).
The next few scenes show Ijime kicking Naiyuta in the back while they are doing push-ups, more running, them getting beat and tamers battling using their Digimon. One day while she is battling a tamer, she looks over at Ijime who is still staring maliciously at her. Pretending to dodge an attack, she has Vulturemon shoot at the enemy's digimon, but it dodges and the attack flies directly in Ijime's direction right past his right shoulder. Naiyuta smiles with satisfaction. Kazuya, his group, and everyone watch and laugh. In the next scene Naiyuta is shoved to the ground, pummeled by a barrage of kicks and punches, curtesy of Ijime and his friends. He leans down towards her.
Ijime: Don't ever make me look like a fool again or next time you won't be so lucky. What are you lookin at?
Kurisu comes up to Naiyuta to try and help her up, but she shakes her arm free.
Naiyuta: I'm fine!
The next day the recruits line up as usual, but something is different this time, there is electricity in the air. Ijime walks up to the line with an unusual eagerness.
Ijime: Listen, you maggots, today will be your first mission!
Everyone looks at one another with excitement.
Ijime: Don't get too excited, this is just a test, the job will be easy. All you have to do is steal as many Digimon cards as possible without getting caught.
He looks square at Naiyuta and Kurisu. Just then Kazuya and his gang come up behind the crowd.
Ijime: What are you doing here?!
Kazuya: We're gonna come along this mission.
Ijime: What?! I don't need your help, who do ya think you are?!
The brute grabs Kazuya by the front of the shirt but he keeps his composure.
Kazuya: We'll, I guess you don't care what the boss thinks then.
Ijime: T-the b-boss? W-why would he want you to come along!?
Kazuya: Don't know, maybe he doesn't think you're up to it.
A chill goes down Ijime's spine as he looks back at the Press Box.
Kazuya: You gonna put me down?
Kazuya says smugly. The next scene shows Naiyuta and a few more recruits standing on top of a building. Kurisu and Kazuya's gang stay back as look outs. They watch as the last employee of the store leaves, locking the door behind him.
Ijime: Alright, g-
Kazuya cuts him off.
Kazuya: Remember, have an exit strategy in case things go bad.
Ijime: Grrr, just go!
Naiyuta jumps off the building, Vulturemon sweeps down grabbing her by the shoulders and dropping her safely on the ground. Above, Ijime and his Allomon turn to walk away from the group.
Kazuya: Where you going?
Ijime: Somewhere else, I'm not stickin around with you losers.
As the other recruits scramble in all directions, Naiyuta stops to look down an alley next to the store. There is a fire escape, after making sure the ladder is down she runs up the wall and into a low hanging vent on the side of the building. Naiyuta drops down into the darkness; the other recruits have already grabbed as much as they can carry and making their way back up the air vents. Vulturemon grabs one of the stores plastic bags and hovers next to her.
Naiyuta: Thanks, this will hold a lot more than my pockets.
As she packs the various Digimon based gear into the bag the front store window suddenly shatters knocking Naiyuta to the ground. The scene shows what is going on outside.
Kazuya: Ijime, what the hell are you doing?!
He simply grins.
Kurisu: You shot the window! My sisters still inside!
Inside Naiyuta lies on the floor barely conscious as the stores alarm can be heard blaring in the background. Vulturemon hovers by letting out various screeches. She gets up clasping the right side of her head.
Naiyuta: What happened?
Police sirens can be heard coming, panicking Naiyuta runs over the shards of broken glass onto the street. As she does police lights shine on her, she covers her eyes with her arm before fleeing into the alley. Her stomach sinks as she realizes that the ladder has been retracted. The camera pans back up to the crowd above.
Kazuya: But it can't be, the ladder was… Bastard, you put the ladder up, didn't you!?
He looks over at Ijime who is grinning. Naiyuta looks back and forth, tears starting to form in her eyes. Suddenly Vulturemon swoops down picking up Naiyuta and putting her down on the building above. The police make it into the alley seconds later. All the other recruits and Kazuya's gang cheer. Kazuya looks at Ijime with a victorious smile.
Ijime: …Damn
The next scene shows Ijime, Kazuya, Naiyuta and Kurisu standing in front of the press box.
Kazuya: You know you did it! We all saw it!
Ijime: Oh, yeah? Prove it.
Kazuya looks angrily to the side. Ijime and Kazuya suddenly turn toward the press box. Kazuya appears to be arguing something before slumping down in silence.
Chapter 6
The next time while everyone is running Naiyuta suddenly stops, Kurisu stops and puts a hand on her back.
Kurisu: What are you doing?! We have to keep running!
Ijime uncrosses his arms and walks up to them. The yellow eyed silhouette can be seen watching the scene intently.
Ijime: Who said you could stop running, girly?!
She starts to shake with anger; she closes her eyes.
Naiyuta: What purpose does this serve?
Ijime: What?!
Naiyuta: I said, what purpose does this serve, we've been running every day for weeks, why?! We completed our first mission! All the other children stop and look at them. Ijime leans in close with a strong scowl.
Ijime: You wanna take me, little girl?
Naiyuta: I could take you!
He punches her across the face leaving a stream of blood coming from her lip as she hits the ground. He's about to hit her again when the person in the press box finally breaks his silence.
?: Enough! You want to solve your differences? How about a little battle?
Ijime: Hahahaha! I've been meaning to wipe that look off your face anyway, Allomon, come here!
Naiyuta looks over at the silhouette of who just saved her. The children stand around the two creating a make shift ring.
Ijime: I'm gonna enjoy making this hurt!
The Allomon charges forward without warning, its teeth ready to clamp down on its prey, Vulturemon takes off leaving Allomon with a mouth full of sand.
Ijime: Heh? Allomon above you!
Allomon unleashes a dino burst at Vulturemon, but it flies to the side and dashes toward its foe. Just as it gets close Allomon swings its tail, Vulturemon blocks with its wings but is flung back. Allomon quickly uses dynamite head on Vulturemon knocking it to the ground. While Vulturemon is getting back up Allomon charges another dino burst, this time, to Naiyuta's horror it is aimed not at her Digimon but her herself.
Ijime: This is what happens when you mess with me!
Metalshiboumon: Iron Knuckle!
Kurisu's digimon sucker punches Allomon across the left side of its jaw causing it to fire into the sand behind the crowd.
Ijime: You little prick!
Kazuya and his group cheer along with the crowd.
Naiyuta: Kurisu!
Kurisu: Let's take this guy!
Naiyuta: Hnm!
Ijime: Rrrrrraaaa! Give'em another dynamite head!
Kurisu: No ya don't!
Metalshiboumon uses its two metal hands and bashes into Allomon, its palms out. With Allomon temporarily immobilized Vulturemon sweeps by its left side and releases one of its golden-metal feathers into the spot where Metalshiboumon had landed its blow. Allomon uses its head to smack Metalshiboumon to its left, but as soon as it does Vulturemon head butts it right between the eyes.
Ijime: That's it! Use dino burst everywhere, I don't care who gets hurt!
The crowd disperses in all directions as the blasts come within inches of the people standing nearby. Allomon shoots erratically in every direction.
Naiyuta: Ready?!
Kurisu: Ready!
Both: Hehhhhaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
Both Digimon dodge dino burst after dino burst until they reach Allomon's left side where Vulturemon's feather is still stuck. They both launch forward smashing the feather deeper into Allomon sending it up into the lower part of its head. It suddenly stops moving.
Ijime: A-allomon?
The bully's digimon explodes into data which showers across the beach. The twin digimon absorb it while Kurisu and Naiyuta celebrate.
Kurisu: Yeah, yeah, we did it?!
Naiyuta: Was there ever a doubt?
Kurisu grins while moving his finger back and forth under his nose. Kazuya comes up and puts a congratulatory hand on her shoulder. As their eyes meet their faces turn a little red.
Ijime: Y-you little bastards!
Ijime runs full speed toward the two of them, his hands out in a grabbing position. Moments before he reaches them a figure zooms by slashing him across the throat, sending his blood spewing out onto the sand. The figure is on one knee a couple inches away from Ijime's body which has now lifelessly hit the ground. As the figure stands up Naiyuta realizes that he was the one in the press box. He is a boy dressed in black no older then Naiyuta, except he has black eyes with yellow irises, claws, pale skin, and razor sharp teeth. He looks at his blood soaked claws.
Naiyuta: T-the boss.
Wraith: It would appear a position has just opened. I was getting tired of that perverts nonsense anyway. You two should be more than enough to replace him. Don't disappoint me…
Both: Y-yes, sir!
They bow and the screen pans out showing the black ocean and the area around it. The screen turns black
Hiromi Kochi
Chapter 1
Hiromi: Hi guys! The name is Hiromi, Hiromi Kochi, I'm eight years old and my parents are never home. But that's okay, because my brother is there to keep me safe!
The scene opens with Hiromi getting off her bus. She walks up to the gate to her house which opens automatically to let her in. As she walks into the garden a giant imposing mansion comes into view. Her gardener turns to looks at her.
Gardner: Hello there, young mistress, and how are we doing today?
Hiromi: Great, thanks for asking!
She replies with a smile. She bows before running up to her doorstep and thrusting open the enormous double doors to her home.
Hiromi: Oni-chan, are you home?! Oni-chaaaan!?
Her brother comes out from the kitchen with somewhat puzzled look on his face before bending down with a smile. He opens his arms for her and she runs into them.
Brother: Hey there Hiromi, how was school?
Hiromi: It was great! We learned about all kinds of dinosaurs, and during gym class I kicked the winning goal, and there is this boy in class and I think he likes me and, and…
Brother: Wow, sounds like you had a busy day.
Hiromi: Uh-uh!
The two walk back into the kitchen holding hands.
Brother: So, you hungry?
Hiromi: yeah!
The next scene shows Hiromi's brother answer the door after hearing some rather heavy knocking.
Brother: W-what are you doing here? And how did you get in?!
He looks back at his two school mates Kinoji and Masaru.
Kinoji: Chill, we just told the gardener we were friends of yours and he let us in.
Masaru: Yeah, I mean, we are friends, right?
Brother: Eh, w-well…
Kinoji: Come on, aren't ya gonna let us in?
The two walk into the foyer without waiting for a reply.
Kinoji: Man, look at this place, who would've thought you had such an awesome pad!
Masaru: Yeah, at school you've always been a bit of a creepy weirdo-
Kinoji elbows him.
Kinoji: Shh! You'll blow it!
Masaru: Got it, sorry.
Kinoji: Hey bro, got anything to drink in this place?
He makes his way towards the kitchen like he owns the place.
Brother: Sh-sure, there's some tea, lemonade, fruit juice and-
Kinoji: I'm talkin about alcohol stupid!
Brother: My parents don't let anything like that in the house…
Masaru: Really?!
Kinoji: What a drag.
He puts his hands behind his head. Just then Hiromi walks past them and up the stairs. Both of them have their eyes focused on her. Kinoji walks back up to Masaru.
Kinoji: Ya know, she's actually kinda cute.
Masaru: ya.
Kinoji: Hey, who was that?
Brother: That was my sister, Hiromi.
Masaru: Mind if we go talk to her.
Kinoji: Just for a little while.
Brother: …
The two again ignore Hiromi's brother, making their way up the stair case and peeking into Hiromi's room. He chases after them, stopping them at the doorframe. Hiromi is innocently playing with a blue robot toy her brother gave her at the edge of the right side of her bed. Her back is facing the door.
Brother: Look, you guys you can't do anything to Hiromi, she's my sister!
Kinoji puts a hand on his shoulder while Masaru pins him against the doorframe.
Kinoji: Calm down, we're not gonna do nothin.
Brother: B-but…
They walk into the room stopping directly in front of her. Their shadows catch her attention, she drops the toy.
Kinoji: Hey there
Masaru: How's it goin?
The two sit down on her left and right side. She is shaking with fear, she knows something isn't right. One of them starts to stroke her upper arm, while the other moves his face into her right cheek sniffing her hair. Panic stricken, Hiromi turns her up torso back towards the doorframe behind her.
Hiromi: Onii-chan!? Help me!
Her brother looks frustrated and sullen, but doesn't move. He tries to speak but nothing is coming out. Kinoji suddenly moves one of his hands to her breast. Hiromi's brother takes a deep breath, clamps his eyes shut and screams as loud as he can.
Brother: S-stop… stop this right now!
Kinoji looks over with an annoyed expression.
Kinoji: Shut the door man!
Masaru: Yeah, and shut up while you're at it.
Seeing that his yelling has had no effect he looks down in defeat. He takes a look into his poor sisters pleading eyes which have filled with tears. He puts his head back down and starts to close the door.
Hiromi: Onii-chan? Where are you going?! Onii-chan! Onnnniiiiii-ccccchhhhaaaaannnnn!
The scene cuts to Hiromi lying on her back with her arms spread out to the right and left. She is to shocked to even cry anymore. The two "Friends" open the door walking past Hiromi's brother.
Kinoji: Thanks man and don't worry, if anyone messes with you at school they'll have to deal with me.
Kinoji's words don't even register; he is too ashamed to even hear anything. He slowly walks back into Hiromi's room.
Brother: H-h-hiromi?
Hiromi: I-I hate you…
She stands up, turns toward him and screams with tear drops in the corners of her eyes.
Hiromi: I HATE YOU ONII-CHAN! I WISH YOU WEREN'T MY BROTHER!
Brother: H-hiromi…I-I
Hiromi: GET OOOOUUUUTTTT! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!
She picks up the toy she dropped and tosses it at him. He quickly shuts the door .
Chapter 2
Next morning as Hiromi makes her way through the garden, the gardener again greets her.
Gardener: Hello, young mistress and how are you feeling today?
Hiromi keeps walking past him with her eyes to the ground without a word. The gardener looks at her with worry as she walks out the gate and into the streets. At school Hiromi displays a considerably different personality from usual.
Teacher: Hiromi, would you like to answer the question?
The teacher looks at Hiromi who continues to look out the window completely dismissing what the teacher said. She is immediately alarmed as she had been up until now one of the most out spoken and bubbly students in the entire class. Hiromi finally turn to look at the teacher with a hollow blank stare.
Teacher: W-well, it would seem that Hiromi is feeling a bit under the weather today, would someone else like to answer the question?
The seen switches to an art class where the other students are rough housing, running around. As one of the boy's runs past her he bops her on the head.
Boy: Tag, you're it!
Hiromi slowly turns her head and grabs a giant sewing needle sitting on the table behind her. Everything seems to be in slow motions as the laughing boy continues to run and then it happens. The boy stops moving letting out a shrill cry, Hiromi had taken the sewing needle and jammed it into the left part of his back. An ambulance can be heard in the background. The scenes jump from her sitting in a chair in the office to her eating dinner with her family. Hiromi just sits there with her head down cast toward her bowl. Her brother is sitting diagonally from her with a sad expression. He looks over at Hiromi, but she doesn't pick her head up. Their mother looks back and forth, feeling that something is amiss.
Mother: Hiromi, aren't you going to eat anything?
She shakes her head back and forth.
Mother: What about you, Nobuyuki?
Nobuyuki: I'm not hungry.
Their parents look at one another and then back at their children.
Father: Listen, Hiromi, we're really worried about you two.
Mother: We're not blaming you for what happened today, honey, it just, it isn't like you to-
Hiromi cuts her off.
Hiromi: What would you know about me?
Father: What did you just say? Apologize to your mother!
Hiromi: Why!? What do you know about me?! You're never even home!
They both looks angry, but surprised as well
Mother: That's it young lady, you go upstairs into your room and don't you dare come back down here for the rest of the night!
Father: And I don't want to hear a sound!
She pushes herself from the table.
Father: You know maybe she has a point-
She puts her hand up.
Mother: It's done, we can't letter talk to us like that.
The next scene shows Hiromi crying with her face in her pillow. Suddenly a shadow comes up from the wall across from the foot of her bed. Hiromi puts her head up from the pillow a little.
Hiromi: Are you going to hurt me too?
?: Adults are all the same, too caught up in their petty lives to see what is right in front of them. What happened to you could have been avoided if only they would have spent just a little more time at home.
Hiromi: Who are you?
She sits up and looks at the boy casting the shadow. A yellow glow is cast in the darkness by his eyes.
?: … A friend.
Hiromi: What do you want?
?: The Dark Arms, you've never heard of it?
The boy notices the perplexed look form across her face as he talks.
?: The Dark Arms is an organization made up of children, like you. Using the Dark Arms, I am going to make a perfect world without adults, one where nothing bad ever happens to children. But in order to do that, I need you, Hiromi.
Hiromi: Me?!
He nods.
Hiromi: I don't know…
Hiromi frowns as she thinks about everything that's happened to her and then stands up, and nods. Her expression has changed completely (Reference to main story).
?: Good.
He hands her a digivice.
Hiromi: What's this?
She fiddles with it for a couple seconds.
?: That is a Digivice, with this we will accomplish our goals, with this, Hiromi, no own will ever hurt you again.
As Hiromi stares at the Digivice in her hands the boy with yellow eyes turns making a portal in Hiromi's wall. To his shock the girl runs up and grabs him by the pant leg.
Hiromi: Onii-chan! …
Wraith turns, reaches into his pocket, pulls out a lollipop and gives it to her, and then starts to walk into the portal. As he begins to walk through he stops.
?: My name isn't "onii-chan", its Wraith.
Chapter 3
Next morning, Hiromi wakes up and checks her nightstand, the Digivice is still their it wasn't a dream!
Hiromi: Mama!? Papa!?
Nobody is home. She walks back up to the Digivice on her nightstand and picks it up.
Hiromi: What is this thing supposed to do, anyway?
The next few scenes shows her goofily shaking it up and down with one arm, throwing it up and catching it again, and pushing random buttons. She finally gives up and falls on her back, flailing her arms wildly.
Hiromi: Why… won't… you…OPEN!
Suddenly, the Digivice shocks and a big black ball comes out from it. She backs away with an arm in front of her face.
Hiromi: Ah!
She inches up to it and then without warning.
WaruMonzaemon: GAAAAA!
The ball unfurls revealing a big black teddy bear. It throws its hands up in the air in a "Y" position. Hiromi backs away.
Hiromi: W-what is this thing?!
She screams as the lumbering beast comes closer and closer to her and then to her surprise pulls her in for a big hug.
Hiromi: What the…!?
It puts her down and she looks up at his big smiling face.
Hiromi: So you weren't trying to kill me?
The Digimon takes both its paws and points them at itself as to say "You mean me?". It suddenly falls to the floor crying while waving its arms around.
Hiromi: Okay, okay, I'm sorry, nice monster.
It immediately sits up clapping its hands together with a goofy smile.
Hiromi: Say you're actually kind of cute. What should I call you? How 'bout …. "Teddy".
The creature points to the Digivice and she looks down at it.
Hiromi: You're saying I should look at this?
It shakes its head up and down. An image comes up with a name.
Hiromi: W-a-r-u-M-o-n-z-a-e-m-o-n, so that's your name?
WaruMonzaemon: Ya, ya, ya.
It smiles while bobbing its head. Then suddenly a rumbling is heard and he looks down at his gut.
Hiromi: Are you hungry? Don't worry I'll get us some food!
She opens the fridge.
Hiromi: There's nothing here!
The next scene shows the two of them sneaking down alley ways before stopping at a bend.
Hiromi: Shh! This way!
She peeks around the corner, but pulls back when a man comes out of the back door. He puts down a box of something next to the dumpster outback. Hiromi starts to tip toe over to the box once the man goes back inside.
Hiromi: Okay, let's go, quietly! This bakery always throws out all kinds of good stuff.
She opens the box revealing an assortment of breads, pastries, cookies, and cakes. WaruMonzaemon puts his hands up against his now drooling mouth.
WaruMonzaemon: Gllllssshh.
Hiromi: I don't know why they through this stuff out just because it's a couple days old, it's still good!
Baker: Hey! What are you doing-… huh? M-M-Monster!
Hiromi: Grab the food, Waru-chan!
She takes off with a bun in her mouth, and two arms full of pastries. WaruMonzaemon grabs the box and runs beside her.
Chapter 4
The next scene shows them gorging themselves in her bedroom.
Hiromi: Wow! Look at all this food, we made out like kings, good job, Waru-chan!
Wraith: I'm glad to see your getting along.
Hiromi: Onii-chan!
Hiromi yells with an excitement to her voice.
Wraith: What do you think? Do you like him?
The camera focuses on the obese bear munching away in the background.
Hiromi: Yeah! He's been a lot of fun, but… why did you give him to me onii-chan?
Wraith: Every member of the Dark Arms has one; it is through these creatures that we will realize our goals.
He turns to leave, as he does, WaruMonzaemon and him give each other a serious glance as if communicating something. WaruMonzaemon quickly turns toward Hiromi again and his expression returns to "Normal".
*What Hiromi doesn't know is that WaruMonzaemon is putting on a show; his personality is actually much darker. Wraith told him to make her like him.
Hiromi: Don't go onii-chan, stay, we can play games and eat a bunch of yummy food!
Wraith: … Why do you keep calling me onii-chan?
Hiromi: Because, we both have blonde hair and… I feel safe when your there!
Wraith: You aren't afraid of me?
Hiromi: Eh-eh, I think you're eyes are really cool.
Wraith: Hnm…
Brother: Hiromi, I'm home!
Wraith turns toward the door as Hiromi's brother calls from the foyer.
Wraith: I'll be back when I have a mission for the two of you, until then, keep your partner a secret from your family.
Hiromi: Got it!
The door opens and her brother peeks his head in. She looks in the direction Wraith was to make sure he's gone before speaking.
Hiromi: What do you want?!
Brother: Is someone there? I thought I heard you talking to someone.
Hiromi just stands still looking forward, ignoring his existence. He sighs, looks down and starts to close the door, but stops when he sees WaruMonzaemon sitting against the wall.
Brother: (Must be some kind of new toy mom and dad gave Hiromi, that thing gives me the creeps!)
WaruMonzaemon's eyes turn in his direction causing a chill to crawl up his spine. He shakes his head and looks at the lifeless toy leaning up against the wall.
Brother: (Must be my imagination).
That night, Hiromi's brother is tossing and turning in his bed. His attention is brought to the door to his room as it slowly opens with a creaking sound. His body begins to shake, beads of sweat drip down his body, and his heart races out of control.
Brother: W-who's there!? Mom? … Hiromi?
His heart pounds as he watches the door lightly tap against the bedroom wall. Two red eyes come into view accompanied by a huge black body walking towards him. As it reaches the foot of the bed it puts up a claw as if to strike.
Brother: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
The lights turn on and the creature is gone. Both of his parents enter the room.
Mother: What's going on?
Brother: T-there was something in here, it-it was trying to kill me!
Father: Son, do you have any idea what time it is? You woke us and your little sister just for us to hear these wild accusations?
He says with his eyes shut and two fingers pinched against the top of his nose.
Brother: W-why would I make something like this up?! I'm not a kid anymore!
His father leaves the room.
Mother: Exactly, and that's why you know there's no such thing as monsters. I would expect better from you.
Brother: Y-you don't believe me?!
She turns and walks out the door. Hiromi is standing in the door frame with a cold expression. She turns around and leaves as the lights go back out. Her brother is left shivering in the dark imagining the creature's silhouette coming back.
Months pass and still no word from Wraith. Hiromi sits cross legged starring at the wall Wraith came out of.
Hiromi: Where IS heeeeeeee!?
She turns around to look at WaruMonzaemon who is pointing behind her. Wraith comes out of the portal part way.
Hiromi: Onii-chan! Are we going on a mission!?
Wraith: You will soon, but this time, I want to show you something special.
She follows him into the portal, where she finds herself walking down a dark and moldy labyrinth of subterranean alley ways. And then suddenly, they reach a square shaped dead end. There are dim purple, green, orange and pink lights casting a little light on the four walls. As Hiromi's eyes adjust she makes out three children in front of her. One a green haired boy is sitting on an old oil drum with one knee up to his chest, another boy with long white hair wearing a purple cape is standing a few feet to the first boys left and all the way to the left there is a pink haired girl wearing a demon mask. All three look in her direction as she walks into the square.
Wraith: Let me introduce you to, the Generals.
The screen turns black.
Isamu Sato
A boy named Isamu Sato walks the cold winter streets stopping under a bridge where about five people are standing around a trash can warming their hands at the fire.
Boy(Homeless): Yo, Isamu! Dressed a little light for this weather, aren't ya?
The other children smile, one of them puts a hand on his shoulder.
Isamu: Nah, cold never bothered me. Isamu: Hey, got any smokes?
The boy takes a pack of cigarettes out of his heavy snow jacket and gives him one, lighting it using the fire. Isamu turns to another boy roughly his age.
Isamu: So, CPS still hasn't got ya yet I see.
Boy 2: You kiddin?! They can't keep up with me, I'm just to fast!
Isamu: Yeah, right!
Boy 2: I'm serious!
Girl: Your old man making you fight again?
He drags on his cigarette.
Isamu: Yeah-
When he picks his head back up he notices a figure standing across from them about 75ft away.
Girl: Something the matter?
Isamu: It's nothing.
He drops the cigarette bud crushing it with the heel of his foot.
Isamu: Got go.
All: See ya! Good bye! See you later!
As he looks back over the figure is gone. In the next scene Isamu is standing in a ring made of cheering adults. Another boy is standing across from him. Just as he swings his arm sirens can heard in the background.
Officer: Get on the ground!
The panicked adults scatter in an attempt at eluding the authorities. Isamu looks at the other boy then back towards his left where is father had stood, the coward must have ran. Later, Isamu is walking down a tunnel when a shadow zooms behind him near the tunnels entrance. He looks back but sees nothing, so he just keeps walking.
Mr. Sato: Hey, you alright?
Isamu: Tsch, like you care.
He walks past him. Isamu's father always reminded him of a lost puppy tagging along and he hated it.
Mr. Sato: Is that anyway to talk to the one who paid your bail?
Isamu: Yeah, thanks (Sarcastic).
If it weren't for his father he wouldn't have been in jail in the first place. Isamu looks over his shoulder again.
Mr. Sato: What ya lookin over there for? Listen I got another fight set up for ya, champ.
Isamu: Not interested.
Mr. Sato: Hey, wait up. The bets have already been made, their expecting a fight.
Isamu: That's your problem.
He grabs him by the wrist, but he rips it free and keeps walking. All his parents ever cared about is getting their next fix, it's pathetic. Later that night Isamu is sitting against a wall watching people coming out of a McDonalds. A man comes out putting down the bag so he can bend down to tie his shoe. Isamu uses this opportunity to sneak by grabbing the bag. In an abandoned alley he eagerly opens it, but is disappointed to see that all that's in it is a syringe and a couple pills.
Isamu: Raaaaaahhhh!
He angrily tosses the bag against the wall breaking the glass syringe into pieces. In the next scene Isamu comes through the door to his house. The TV is on but his parents are passed out, his mother on the couch and his father in his arm chair. He sneaks toward the steps, but stops when he hears a noise, he releases a sigh of relief, and it was just his father's coughing. He opens the flimsy door to his room revealing dilapidated dirty curtains, mold incrusted walls and a sleeping bag against the left side of the room. The room is cold, loveless; nothing hangs on its walls. He reaches under his pillow revealing a locket with the picture of a baby in it. He puts it back and lies down closing his eyes.
Chapter 2
Next morning, Isamu meets with his friends under the bridge. As he walks up to them he continually looks to his left and right and then over his shoulder again. He is getting that weird feeling again.
Girl: Is something the wrong, Isamu?
Isamu: N-none of you guys saw anyone following me, did you?
Girl: Uh-uh.
Isamu: It's fine, you guys got anything to eat.
Boy: No, sorry.
Girl: Here Isamu, have my chocolate bar.
She reaches out her hand, but Isamu feels guilty looking at the obviously still hungry child.
Isamu: You know what, its fine.
Girl: You sure?
Isamu: yeah.
She smiles at him, warming his heart.
Girl: Thanks.
He turns around and walks away with his hands in his pockets. As he makes his way down the streets he notices something in his peripheral vision, but by the time he looks it is gone yet again. As he looks over there he is suddenly confronted by his father.
Mr. Sato: Enjoy spending time with your little friends?
Isamu: So?
Mr. Sato: Where were you last night?!
He grabs him by the scruff of his jacket.
Mr. Sato: Everyone was upset with me and threatenin me and all because you never showed!
Isamu: I already told you I wasn't gonna fight, it was your own fault.
Mr. Sato: I'm your father and you weren't there when I needed you-
Something in Isamu snaps.
Isamu: Like you were there for Konomi?!
Images flash through his head of his little sister smiling and giggling.
Konomi: (I love you big brother! Yeah, let's play! Awe I'm gonna miss you.)
Then he remember show one day when he came home he found his sisters cold lifeless body lying on the floor. He can still remember how he cried over her body, shaking her and trying in vain to revive her using chest compressions. His father simply stares at him not knowing what to say, but then reaches out to strangle Isamu.
Mr. Sato: You little bastard!
Suddenly a large black metallic creature leaps between the two cracking the pavement. Both Isamu and his father jump back in surprise and fright. The creature looks at the two of them but seems more interested in Isamu's father and not in a good way. It lets out a high pitch screech showing its razor sharp fangs. Isamu looks back and forth debating whether to run and abandon his father or stay and try and save him. As the metallic demon stomps closer and closer Isamu looks to his right and picks up a shard of pavement tossing it at the monsters head. Its head jerks back around.
Isamu: Run!
The two run into a nearby alley, looking around for a route of escape.
Mr. Sato: What the hell was that thing?!
Isamu: Just shut up and help me.
Isamu's heart pounds a mile a minutes as he feverishly looks for a way to escape. When his back is turned his father climbs the ladder of a fire escape. As he runs towards it his father begins to pull up the ladder.
Isamu: What are you doing?!
His eyes grow wide in fear as his father continues to make his way onto the roof, abandoning him.
Isamu: You son of a-!
He around unable to even think straight, just as the creatures shadow begins to come into view Isamu spots a sewer cap. He waits on the sewer ladder, listening to the Digimon's heavy footsteps come closer and closer and then fade away with a terrifying screech.
Isamu: Whew…
He breathes out a sigh of relief but stays in the sewer for almost three hours before gaining the courage to leave.
Chapter 3
That night Isamu finds himself walking below a bridge, a train can be heard running above. He leans against the fence on his left side, still shook up by what he had been through only hours before. As he picks his head back up, he sees five boys his age staring him down.
Isamu: What? Got a problem?!
Boy: No, but your old man does.
Isamu: Then talk to him.
Boy: Not so fast.
The next scene shows the five boys walking away, leaving a bleeding Isamu on the ground.
Boy: Give your dad, the message.
Isamu: W-wait… I'm not done with you.
Boy: Oh, yes you are, just sit there and shut up!
Boy 2: Man he sure put up a good fight.
One of the boys says clutching his left arm.
Boy 3: Tell me about it, I think my jaw is busted.
The boy feels his jaw with one hand.
Boy 4: Quit whine'in.
Boy 3: Shut up.
The battered Isamu spits blood out of mouth and pulls himself back onto his feet. He steadies himself by gliding his hand against the wall. As he makes it out from under the bridge he sees that it is almost night time.
?: Pathetic, will you keep letting him get away with doing this?
Isamu: Who said that?! Say that to my face!
After the beating he had just received Isamu is in no mood. Within seconds a boy reveals himself, appearing from out of nowhere. Isamu lunges forward throwing punch after punch at the boy who easily dodges each time. This boy was no stranger to fighting either. The boy enters a black hole behind him before flying out from another one punching Isamu in the stomach before kicking him onto the ground. Using another portal the boy falls from the sky slamming down with both feet onto Isamu's stomach. The battle ends with the boy standing over Isamu with a foot on his neck. For the first time Isamu realizes how strange the boy actually looks. His eyes are a pitch black and his irises are yellow, apart from that he even has claws.
Isamu: What do you want?! Why have you been following me?!
?: To make you an offer.
He steps off of him and backs up.
Isamu: What did you say?
?: I am building up an army, you may know it as the Dark Arms and I want you to be a part of it.
Isamu: Why would I want to do something like that, y-you're a terrorist.
?: Is that really what you believe or what you've been told to believe? I am going to destroy this world created by adults and rebuild it as a utopia.
Isamu: How?! We're just kids, we can't do-
The boy suddenly transforms into the black metal monster he had seen earlier.
Isamu: W-what, t-that was you?!
?: Yes, and you too can have this power. Didn't you wonder how I was able to level an entire city in America?
He waves his hand and a Digivice forms in his claws.
Pandemoniamon: It's your choice.
He hesitates for only a second before grabbing the Digivice.
Isamu: So with this I can become stronger, like you?
Pandemoniamon: Yes, using that Digivice you will attain true power.
As he begins to put his arm up to release whatever lies within, but the boy pushes it back down. He turns back into his semi-human form.
?: Don't open it in public unless you want to be seen.
The boy begins to walk away, fading little by little.
Isamu: Wait. What am I supposed to do?!
?: I will tell you when the time comes.
The boy completely disappears leaving a bag of food behind.
?: I know a thing or two about being hungry.
The strange boys voice echoes in his ears despite having disappeared only moments before. Isamu quickly opens it and scarfs down its contents within minutes. In the next scene Isamu enters his home to find both his dead beat parents passed out as usual. As he walks into the living room and sees the mess of needles and drugs littered about and grimaces. He pulls out his Digivice and looks at it and then looks back at the door. He runs back out into the night, Isamu knows just the place he wants to be when he opens the mysterious device. Isamu had become increasingly familiar with the old underground subway tunnels, it is dark, remote, and most importantly nobody would find him there.
Chapter 4
The green haired boy slowly walks into a wide, albite pitch black open space. The room is square shaped with three entrances on each side.
Isamu: Now, how am I supposed to use this? Release!... no? uhm…. come out! Go?! … Open damn it!
The Digivice shocks casting a piercing light into the darkness.
Isamu: Ah!
Isamu drops the Digivice and a large orange monster comes out. He had never really been a fan of the card game but was fairly sure that the beast before him was called a Megadramon. He takes a few steps back more than a little nervous.
Isamu: S-so, you must be my partner, huh?
When the creature tries to stand up all the way, it hits its head on the ceiling causing dust to fall from its crevasses. It looks up at the ceiling turning right and then left, not sure of where if anywhere it is. Isamu shields his eyes from the dust using both arms.
Isamu: Hey, watch it, or the whole place will come down on us!
The orange digimon looks down at the boy below, its eyes having adjusted and seemingly noticing him for the first time. The Megadramon growls grinding its multiple razor sharp teeth together. He lets out a loud roar shaking the subways foundations. The massive monster then continues to slowly inch its head towards the boy. Isamu puts out a shaky hand, attempting to pat it on the nose, but it lunges forward with its teeth out. Isamu leaps to his left and ducks, grabbing the Digivice. Now panicked, he runs out the way he came in and around a corner, his back against a wall. His breath has become labored, a low growl can be heard and then the Megadramon pokes its head through the entrance to Isamu's left snorting at the air.
Isamu: Whew… that was close.
Without warning the beast forces its entire body through the arch banging its face into the concrete wall in front of it. Seemingly unfazed it turns to the right and after Isamu.
Isamu: You have got to be kidding me!
He books it straight ahead running through doorway after doorway, Megadramon not far behind. It single mindedly follows him not caring that every move it makes scrapes at the ceiling and could potentially end with both parties being buried alive. Finding himself in a large room resembling a underground parking lot, Isamu hides behind one of the many support beams. The dragon-like Digimon slithers from pillar to pillar in search of its prey. Isamu watches intently as the creature come closer and closer to his pillar. He clamps his eyes shut as it slithers by the other side of his pillar.
Isamu: Think… think… think. There.
He says just a little too loud. Isamu runs toward the exit watching the ceiling get lower and lower. Just as he reaches it the Megadramon shoots a torpedo of some kind, but do to the tight quarters it hits a pillar only feet from Isamu. Isamu falls on his stomach as the blast propels him forward. He looks back to find the Megadramon pinned down by the rubble, only its head and left arm sticking out. Isamu limps over to the creature which seems rather impatient about its current predicament. Isamu begins to walk away, but looks back at his now trapped and defenseless foe. With a sigh he holds up his digivice.
Isamu: I can get you out of there, but I'm in charge now, got it?!
The monster lets out a few snorts before closing its eyes in submission. Taking that as a sign, Isamu steps forward and places a hand on Megadramon's nose. He throws up his Digivice. The Digivice shocks a bit, Isamu watches in amazement as the massive Digimon breaks down into data disappearing into the little box in his hand. He looks at it for a while and then the screen goes black. It has been three weeks now and still no word from Isamu's nameless master.
Nori Obata
Chapter 1
The story opens at the scene of a car crash, rain cascades to the street as if to matching and the grey skies above. The paramedics and policemen are shining their flashlights at the totaled car in front of them. The front of the car has been smashed so badly that the ceiling and front are crunched against the back half of the car causing it to resemble more of a cube. One of the officers shines his flashlight through the part of front windshield that can still be seen.
Policeman: Hello!? Hello, can anybody hear me?!
As the officer looks closer and his eyes adjust, the two lifeless bodies of the driver and passenger come into view. There's blood all over the windshield from where the driver's head hit the steering wheel. The passengers body is sitting straight up with her head hanging back, a piece of metal jammed into her stomach.
Policeman 2: Can you see anything?!
Policeman: Two bodies, there's no way anyone could have survived this!
Policeman 3: Over here! Over here, I think I hear something!
He pries open the door to the car revealing a traumatized child shivering deep within the wreck.
Policeman 3: Kid, can you hear me, kid?! Wait right there, we're going to get you out of there, just hold on!
The officer shoves his hand into the car and toward the child before the screen turns black. The next scene shows a young Nori sitting in a chair in the police office as people walk past him in fast forward, his head down cast. Two people are talking together in a room directly in front of him, with the door open.
Officer: Yes, that's right; both parents were killed on impact. Yes, we will work on finding the child a home immediately.
The man walks out of the office, bends down and puts a hand on Nori's shoulder.
Officer: Don't worry, we're gonna find you a good home, okay? You're a tough little guy.
It jumps forward to the home which Nori was placed. He is sitting on the stairs with his eyes down cast as other children run around below him. A girl is being chased by a boy, they are laughing and smiling, completely care free and ignorant of how cruel life can be. Another girl stops to talk to him
Stephanie: Hi, wanna play?
She bends forward with her hands behind her back and a huge smile.
Stephanie: Hello, can you hear me?
She waves her hand in front of his face, but he doesn't seem to even register her existence. The girl tilts her head in a confused fashion before running after the other two kids. That night Nori lies in bed with the same hollow look in his eyes. Two people can be heard talking outside the door, they appear to be arguing.
Foster Father: How can you even say that? You know what he's been through; he just needs a little more time.
Foster Mother: We can barely afford to take care of them as it is… and besides… he's upsetting the other children.
Father: I know bu-
Mother: Look, we have a responsibility to all of these children; we need to think about what's best for all of them. I'm taking him back tomorrow.
Nori: (Their going to send me away, but I don't care. They don't understand none of them understand.)
The scenes jump from home to home in fast word showing transparent people running left and right past him. He has moved from house to house for years and each time that meant new parents, new siblings and going to a new school and trying to make new friends. Some parents were nice, some were mean to him, and others wanted nothing to do with him. He is now settled into another home. This time however, he notices an immediate difference. The husband and wife smile warmly, for the first time Nori feels a genuine loving compassion. He picks his head up to look at them and for reasons he can't explain he starts to cry, both come forward and put their arms around him.
Mother: It's okay, everything is going to be okay, baby.
Father: From now on you have nothing to be afraid of, kiddo.
His new father tussles his hair.
Chapter 2
In the next scene the family is eating dinner Nori's new parents are teasing one another. As they do all three begin to laugh hysterically.
Reiko: Nori, you're laughing.
Nori stops stares for a bit, surprised at himself for laughing, he hadn't even realized it until she said something. Suddenly he laughs again even harder, he was happy again, finally happy again. Next morning Nori wakes up and looks around his bedroom. His mother suddenly peeks his head in the door.
Reiko: Hey, sleepy head, you should get up, breakfast is almost ready.
Nori looks at the ceiling and smiles; it wasn't a dream after all. Nori slowly walks down the stairs, his foster mother is cooking breakfast while his father sits at the table reading the newspaper. Both of them turn to look in his direction.
Stanley: So your finally awake! We've been waiting for almost twenty minutes!
Reiko: Oh, he's just teasing, it couldn't have been more than five minutes. How did you sleep?
Nori: Fine…
Reiko: Good, we're having pancakes, I know it might not be what you're used to, but I hope you like it. It's a common breakfast in the West and Stan begged me to make them.
Nori: I-its okay.
He sits down across from Stan.
Reiko: Here you go.
She puts the plates down kissing Stanley on the cheek and lovingly squeezing Nori's shoulder.
Nori: So… D-dad… I mean, Stan, when am I going to school?
Stanley: Wow, your talkin about school already?! We were thinkin you would get a little more comfortable with your surroundings before you start thinkin about school.
Nori: So… I don't have to go?
Reiko: Just take all the time you need, sweetie. You can go whenever you're ready.
Nori smiles and then continues to eat. The next scene shows Stanley drop Nori off at school.
Stanley: Sorry, I may have gotten you here a little late; I forgot Japan doesn't have school buses.
Nori opens the car door and steps out, closing the door behind him
Stanley: Remember, try to make lots of friends, kay?
He sticks his head out of the vans window and winks at him with a thumb up. Nori takes a deep breath and walks through the school doors. The next few scenes flash across the screen showing Nori talk with students at lunch, raising his hand in class, and trying to play dodge ball. When he gets home, Nori sits at the table with his head down.
Reiko: Is something the matter, honey?
She puts both her hands on her husband's shoulders.
Stanley: Did the other kids do something?
Nori: No, no, the other students have been great; their all really nice to me. I-its just…
Reiko: Yes?
Nori: Why… me? There must have been other kids.
The two looks at each other and then back at Nori.
Stanley: We, me and Reika, have been trying to have a baby for years and but…
Reiko: We've been having a little trouble. ?
Stanley: And that's where you came in.
Reiko: Are you mad?
Nori: No, I-I just don't want to leave.
Reiko: Oh, honey, you don't have to. You never have to worry about that ever again.
She puts out her hand and puts it on his.
Stanley: We're your mom and dad, and that' not going to change.
Chapter 3
The next years fly by, for once everything was bright and happy, for once in his life, Nori could look forward to the future with his head held high. One day Nori comes home from school as usual with a smile on his face and to his surprise both his parents are sitting at the family room table as though waiting for him. His smile promptly disappears from his face.
Nori: What's the matter?
Reiko: Well, we have… a bit of exciting news.
He sits down.
Stanley: Well, you're gonna have a little brother.
Reiko: Isn't that great?
Nori's heart drops as he hears those words, his whole world has just been turned upside down and his parents just stand there smiling as if everything was okay. Nori looks forward in complete shock.
Reiko: Nori, honey, is something the matter, Nori?!
Nori runs from the table and out the door. He thinks to himself as he runs aimlessly through the streets.
Nori: (Why? Why did this have to happen?! Just when everything finally made sense, just when I was finally happy, my whole world fell apart!)
Nori finally falls to his hands and knees and just cries and cries.
Nori: What's going to happen to me?
The screen goes black before panning around a corner and into an alley way. Unbeknownst to him a shadowy figure has been following him everywhere he goes for months. That night Nori comes back into the house and closes the door behind him. He is slumped over, his head facing the floor.
Reiko: Honey where have you been? We've been worried sick about you.
He completely ignores her, walking slowly up the steps. Reika's husband comes up behind her and puts his hand on her shoulder as she clutches her stomach.
Stanley: It's okay, just give him some space.
Nori falls down face first onto his bed, his eyes tired from crying. Before even realizing it, Nori falls asleep. He is awoken next morning by the sound of music coming from downstairs. He sits up and rubs his left eye with his arm.
Nori: (Dad-Stanley must be practicing playing piano.)
Nori had noticed the old piano sitting in the living room, but until now he had never actually heard anyone play it. As he slowly descends down the stairs and reaches the bottom, he notices a note on the side table in front of him.
Stan: "Hey, there kiddo! Sorry we couldn't be there for ya this morning, we had to go to the hospital for some test, breakfast is on the table. Love, Stan and Reiko."
Slightly confused, Nori turns and makes his way into the living room. If his parents weren't home, who's playing the piano? He sees a boy roughly his age with spiked blonde hair sitting at the piano. He is playing "Linkin Park: Numb" with his eyes shut. Nori is taken aback by the boy's skill, forgetting for a moment that a stranger was in his house playing on his parent's piano.
Nori: It's beautiful…. Hey, who are you?
The boy seems to completely ignore him. After nearly two whole minutes the boy finishes the song and stops playing. Nori looks down at the boys fingers tapping away at the piano and notices that the piano player has literal claws. The boy opens his eyes for the first time shifting them toward Nori. A chill climbs his spine as he looks into the boy's eyes. The boy motions with his eyes for Nori to sit so he does.
Nori: Why are you-
?: Can you play?
He shakes his head back and forth. The pale skinned boy directs Nori to two keys on the piano.
?: Whenever I do this…
He plays a certain part of the song.
?: You hit this key and when I play this part…
He plays a different part of the song.
?: You hit this key.
He hits the key a few times to make sure he understands. As the boy plays Nori nervously hits the key just in time, but after a while he begins to easily keep up.
Nori: So, what are you doing here, what do you want?
?: You hate them, don't you?
Nori: Them?
?: Your adoptive parents for what they did to you. You finally found a family and they decided to have a child, adults are so selfish.
Nori: It's not like that, part of me wants to hate them, but I can't, I still… love them, they're the only ones who have ever been nice to me. I don't want to hurt them. It's all just… just so-so unfair!
Nori slams his fists down on the piano keys.
Nori: I'm sorry.
The boy doesn't respond seemingly indifferent to his outburst.
Nori: Why did you come here, you never answered?
?: As of yet we haven't gotten much publicity, but I trust you've heard of the Dark Arms?
Nori: The… Dark… Arms.
His eyes grow wide.
?: That's right, and I am searching for new members and I was hoping you would join us.
Nori: Join the Dark Arms? I-I don't think so.
?: That's too bad.
He gets up and starts to walk towards a black hole he opened on the left side of the room.
Nori: Wait, where are you going? You never even told me your name? M-mine's Nori! Nori Obata!
He looks at the floor before picking his head back up.
Nori: What kinds of children join the Dark Arms?
The boy Stops.
?: The Generals are all like you.
Nori: Like… me?
?: We, like you, have all had our childhoods stolen.
This statement seems to move Nori inside and the boy turns back around sensing an opening for persuasion.
?: We are a brotherhood, or if you wish…a family and so long as we share our cause, it will remain that way. Are you having second thoughts?
Nori: It-it wouldn't make a difference, not unless you can go back in time and get my parents back.
The boy with yellow irises and black eyes looks to his side.
?: If my plan succeeds I might be able make that a reality.
Nori's head shoots up.
Chapter 4
Nori: Really, y-you could do that?
?: It's a probability…
Nori: I'll do it!
The boy tosses a Digivice at Nori and he catches it. He looks down at the device in his hands as the boy starts to walk away again.
Nori: Wait!
?: Hnm?
Nori: If we're… family then… what's your name?! I-I am Nori, Nori Obata!
Wraith: It's Wraith.
Nori looks down again.
Nori: Wraith…
By the time he looks up the Wraith is already gone. The scene cuts to Nori lying on his bed looking at the Digivice he's holding toward the ceiling.
Nori: (So, what now?)
For days Nori simply carries the little box shaped device in his hand, not even attempting to use it. One day as Nori sits in his room he stands up and throws up the Digivice.
Nori: Well, I have it, might as well see what's inside.
Wraith: I wouldn't do that…
Nori turns around to looks at Wraith who appeared behind him out of nowhere.
Wraith: Follow me, I'll take you somewhere else.
The scene jumps to Wraith and Nori standing in an abandoned area with a large body of water in front of them.
Nori: I don't get it, why here?
Wraith: You'll see, throw up your Digivice.
Nori does and the small box in his hand begins to emit electricity. There is a flash and suddenly an enormous Hyogamon stands before them. Nori stands in amazement, not sure whether to run or greet his new partner. As the Hyogamon lets out a loud roar, the water behind it freezes over in a matter of seconds. Even stranger, it begins to snow.
Nori: Th-th… this i-is…
Wraith: Your partner. I will leave you two to get better acquainted.
Wraith disappears without a trace, not speaking another word.
Hyogamon: So you're my partner, huh? You don't look like much… but looks can be deceiving.
The giant beast sits down cross-legged, his back to the now frozen body of water behind him. Nori walks past the monster and looks at the thick sheet of ice.
Nori: I still can't believe you did that.
Hyogamon: You can go ahead and walk on it if you like, it's pretty thick.
Nori hesitantly puts one foot on the ice, realizing that it hadn't cracked he slams his foot down and still nothing.
Nori: That's some strong ice.
Hyogamon: What, didn't believe me? Hey, come sit over here for a minute.
Nori sits down in front of the towering blue ogre.
Hyogamon: Since we're gonna be working together we might as well get to know each other.
Nori: Okay.
Hyogamon: My name's Hyogamon.
He points at himself with his thumb.
Nori: Nori.
Hyogamon: The boss told me your story, really unfair if ya ask me. Course I know a few things about unfair myself.
Nori: Y-you do?
Hyogamon: In the digital world, I was once a member of a pack of Hyogamon, I don't know, I guess you could call them my family. Believe it or not, at the time I was actually quite small, a runt of a Hyogamon. Then one day finally when I got wounded in battle and got sick they all abandoned me, left me to die.
Nori: They, your family just left you there?!
Hyogamon: Why not? I was just dead weight to them. Anyway, as I was struggling to survive I was attacked by a clan of Leomon, who by the way, hate us Ogre-type Digimon. I was at their mercy, being beaten from all sides from my spot on the ground, I thought that would be the end for me for sure.
Nori: What happened?
Hyoganmon grins slightly.
Hyogamon: The boss appeared and killed the lot of em, saving me.
Nori: Wraith did that?
Hyogamon: I'dunno, I suppose he saw something in me. Anyway, I was nursed back to health and after absorbing enough data from other Digimon, I became the enormous creature you see before you. I don't know if you noticed, kid, but I am almost 3x the size of my brother ogre Digimon.
Nori: I noticed.
Nori looks at the ground, his eyes tearing slightly.
Hyogamon: Heh, what's the matter?! I say something?
He rubs his eyes with his sleeve.
Nori: No-no, it's just, it feels good to finally meet someone who can understand what I've been through.
Hyogamon chuckles a bit.
Hyogamon: Yeah, well, um, it's starting to get dark, we should get back to where ever it is you live.
Nori: Yeah.
He nods with a smile. Next morning, Nori wakes up and immediately notices the silhouette of Wraith standing with its back against the wall opposite of Nori's bed.
Wraith: Are you ready for your first mission?
Nori gets up, grabs a purple cape off a chair, throwing it over his shoulders.
Nori: What do you need?
The screen goes black.
Toshiaki Matsushita
The story begins in a dark room; a boy and a girl are hiding in a closet.
Aimi: Toshi-chan, I don't think we should be doing this.
She says between kisses, in a nervous yet aroused voice.
Toshiaki: Relax, your dad isn't supposed to be home for another fifteen minutes.
Aimi: It-it's just…
The boy ceases to move his busy hands over the girl's body and looks her in the eyes.
Toshiaki: What is it? Is something the matter?
Suddenly the doors flings open letting in a blinding light. Toshiaki puts his arm up over his face to block the light, which is immediately grabbed. He is pulled from the closet violently and flung behind the adult figure.
Aimi: Daddy, wait?! Please don't hurt him!
Toshiaki's girlfriend is squeezed against the corner of the closet scared beyond belief.
Father: Shut up!
He reaches out and slaps her across the face, hard.
Toshiaki: Hey!
The now angry boy grabs hold of her father's arm trying to keep him away from the crying Aimi. Aimi's father easily rips his arm free and turns toward the raven haired boy.
Father: This is all your fault!
Toshiaki: I know I shouldn't have kissed her, but that doesn't mean you had to hit her!
Aimi's father's expression changes from angry to smug.
Father: Get out, before I call the cops.
Next morning Toshiaki and Aimi are walking home together from school on the sidewalk.
Toshiaki: Nice day.
Aimi: Toshi-chan, about yesterday, I-I'm sorry.
Toshiaki: Yeah, your dad sure was mad, remind me to never touch you again.
He begins to chuckle, but stops when he notices Aimi's sorrowful face looking toward the ground.
Toshiaki: Aimi?
Aimi: Toshiaki, listen, my dad wasn't angry because you touched me, he was angry because you're an "Ainoko". That's what he called you anyway.
His eyes grow wide at hearing that word.
Toshiaki: A-a what?!
Aimi: An Ainoko, it's a really foul name for someone who is biracial. He says your blood is "impure".
Toshiaki: I know what it means, it's just… it's just… I didn't think there were still people that believed that nonsense! Wait, so every time I tried to come over to your house and you wouldn't let me-
Aimi: I was trying to protect you. And… oh, no.
Toshiaki turn his head to forward position again. A group of older boys comes walking up to the two of them.
Toshiaki: Can I help you?
Nariko: Yeah, stay away from my sister.
Aimi: Leave him alone nii-chan!
He looks at his grimacing sister and walks past them.
Toshiaki: What was their problem?
Toshiaki feels something hit the back of his head, as his vision begins to blur the last thing he sees is Aimi screaming his name as he collapses.
Chapter 2
The next scene shows the unconscious Toshiaki being carted down a hallway by hospital personnel. They discuss their patient while running.
Doctor: What happened?
Nurse: The back of the victims head has massive trauma, most likely from a sharp blow to the head with a blunt object of some kind. And that's not all, it looks like whoever did this to him worked him over pretty good after the initial blow to the head.
Doctor: Alright, get him ready for surgery, ASAP.
Toshiaki is lying on an operating table, while the doctors work feverishly. In the guest window, his mother cries, pressing her face into her husband's shoulder. The next scene shows Toshiaki hooked-up to an IV; his parents are sitting nervously at his left side. The doctor walks in and the two stand up to face him.
Doctor: We removed all the bone fragments we could…
Mother: But, that's good, right?!
She says as tears run down her cheeks.
Father: Honey, let him talk.
He nods, telling the doctor to continue.
Doctor: I'm sorry, while your son will most certainly recover, I'm afraid he will never see again. I'm sorry.
The doctor leaves the two alone. Hours later Toshiaki's body starts to shake slightly as he starts to awake.
Mother: Honey, honey look, he's moving!
The boys formerly brown eyes begin to flicker open, now dim, pale, and lifeless. His heart rate immediately begins to soar.
Toshiaki: W-what's going on?! Where am I? Hello?! HELLO?!
His mother practically leaps forward throwing her arms around him.
Mother: It's okay, Toshi, I'm here, we're all here, baby.
Toshiaki: M-my eyes, w-why can't eye see?! MOM!? MOM?!
She only hugs him tighter and starts to cry. The nurse comes in pulling the two apart and taking out a syringe, which she immediately injects him with. He falls asleep and his heart rate returns to normal. Next morning, Toshiaki lies with his head facing the right wall, away from where his parents were sitting. He looks depressed and defeated. He listens as his parents talk to the nurse about their options in the hall. They are talking about schools for the blind and something about a cane. His mother comes over and strokes his hair, but he's to numb to feel anything.
Mother: we're going to go downstairs for a little while and come right back, alright?
He doesn't care whether they were there or not, it didn't make a difference, they didn't make him feel any better. Two days later, or what Toshiaki assumed to be two days, it's hard to tell without sight, he gets a message from the nurse.
Nurse: There is someone here to see you.
He turns his head to where he thinks the door way is and he hears a familiar voice.
Aimi: H… Hey.
She slowly makes her way toward him, stopping centimeters from his bed.
Aimi: Things haven't been the same without you… everyone at school is worried sick.
She stops and puts her head down.
Aimi: T-toshi-chan, I'm so sorry. I…I just wish…. there was something I could….
She picks her head back up.
Aimi: You know, my brother, h-he usually a nice guy, he wouldn't do this on his own, my dad must of-
Toshiaki: Just go away…
He turns his head back toward the wall. Aimi puts her hands to her mouth and cries, running from the room. He feels a twinge of regret, but can't bring himself to call after her. Nothing matters anymore, nothing.
Chapter 3
Toshiaki's mother helps her son through the door and into their home; he had been discharged from the hospital. She quickly helps him down onto the couch and his father takes a seat next to him.
Father: Hey, sport, want me to turn the TV on for you, we can watch the game?
Toshiaki: What's the point? It's not like I can watch it.
Father: Come on now, you can still listen, right?
He takes the remote and turns on a soccer game. As Toshiaki sits in misery, he suddenly notices something; he can hear things he couldn't before. The camera zooms in on his dad's finger hitting the button on the remote, and the flickering of the TV turning on; he can hear his mother turn on the burner and slicing vegetables. This experience soon over whelms him and Toshiaki stands up gritting his teeth, grabbing the sides of his head.
Father: Son, what's the matter, are you okay?
Toshiaki: It's too much!
As he lumbers forward he trips over the coffee table in front of him and lands on the floor. His father helps him up and walks him to his room.
Father: Why don't you get some rest, huh.
Next morning, Toshiaki wakes up in a cold sweat, his heart beating a mile a minute. He immediately hyperventilates.
Toshiaki: Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
He turns his head left and right but all he sees is the pitiless darkness. His parents run into the room, his mother putting a hand on his shoulder.
Mother: Honey, what's the matter?!
He continues to cough and wheeze, tears starting to fill his eyes.
Toshiaki: I… I t-thought I was dead!
His parents look to one another with worried expressions. In the next scene Toshiaki is walking directly outside his house holding a white stick with a red stripe on it. He was supposed to wear the traditional black glasses, but Toshiaki decided to wear his red lensed goggles instead because the black shades looked dumb.
Father: It's alright son, we'll be right here.
Mother: Go on sweetie, try it out.
Toshiaki: I can cross the street to pick up some radishes by myself, mom!
He takes a breath and begins to walk around waving his cane back and forth across the ground. As he does he walks into the street lights support beam, despite the cane, he was walking to fast.
Toshiaki: Damn it!
He punches the metal pole, stopping in position; people can be heard laughing to his left.
Toshiaki: You think this is funny?!
The kid's look shocked, clearly they didn't expect him to be able to tell where they were. He suddenly chucks his stick at them, only narrowly missing; they disperse, chuckling as they do. The black haired boy stops moving dropping his head, he had just tossed the only thing that can help him get back to his house.
Mother: Toshi, honey, do you need some help?
Toshiaki: …yes.
Back in the house.
Mother: So it was a bit early for the market, we can try again later.
Toshiaki: When can I go back to school?
Mother: Honey… you can't go back to school.
Toshiaki: What?! It's where all my friends are! I-I still have homework, projects, to do!
Father: Toshi, you wouldn't even know where you're going, that school is like a maze, and-and besides, you would just fall behind everyone else.
Toshiaki: So now what?
Mother: We've enrolled you in a… different school, one for children like you.
Father: They will teach you how to read braille and how to use your cane properly.
At the school, Toshiaki is walking down a hall with a "teacher" there to guide him through the buildings halls as practice.
Teacher: You're doing fine, remember, use your stick, use your stick, can you feel anything.
As he waves the stick it hits a walls corner to his right.
Toshiaki: Yeah, there's a wall, a corner.
Teacher: Good, good, and what does that mean?
Toshiaki: There is going to be a wall in front of me, I need to turn to the right after I take about five steps.
Teacher: Great!
She claps her hands causing him to blush slightly; he's not used to being treated like such a child. Given his current predicament, perhaps that is what he needs at the moment. In the next scene he is sitting at a table rubbing his finger across a bunch of strange dots punched into a piece of paper.
Toshiaki: It's no use! I can't make anything out!
Teacher: That's because you're moving too fast, here.
She gently takes hold of his wrist, causing another light blush, guiding his finger over four dots followed by a single dot at the bottom left.
Teacher: What do you feel?
Toshiaki: F-four dots
Teacher: Anything else?
Toshiaki: Yeah, there's one more dot at the bottom left.
Teacher: Right and what did I say that shape meant?
Toshiaki: "Will"… it means "will"
Teacher: That's right! See, I knew you could do it!
She reaches over and hugs him.
Chapter 4
Despite his parent's constant warnings against it, Toshiaki with his new found confidence in his abilities makes his way to his old school. His friends must be worried about him by now. As he is walking through the school halls, some running students bang into him, knocking him to the floor. He gets on his knees and starts to grope around for his cane. The students simply start laughing at him before taking off down the hall.
Aimi: Toshi?
Aimi notices her boyfriend on the floor and speed walks up to him. He manages to find his cane and grabs it.
Toshiaki: What do you want, Aimi?
Aimi: Here.
She reaches under his armpit and helps him up.
Aimi: Why are you here?
Toshiaki: To see my friends, have you seen Manzo, Suzu, or Taree around?
She nods, directing him to their location. The next scene flashes forward to Toshiaki walking home in the rain, thinking of what just transpired. He had talked to his friends, they seemed happy to see him but something was off, like they were unsure what to do or say. And who could blame them; they can't do any of the things that they used to with him. He slips falling face down on the pavement, unable to keep his composure he begins to break down. The suddenly, the sun comes out bathing him in light. As he listens he notices the sound of water crashing lightly against the sand. On the beach Toshiaki walks slowly toward the sound of the ocean. He begins to sob thinking about what he is about to do. Then he collapses, falling on his knees and hands.
Toshiaki: I-I can't… I can't do it!
A chill climbs up his spine, even without his sight, he notices the change in scenery. He wasn't on the beach anymore, no but he has to be, he can still feel the sand between his fingers and he can still hear the water. All the while tears still fall from his face.
Toshiaki: Who-whose their?!
?: What's the matter?
Toshiaki can't see the person, but his voice sounds like a boy his age.
Toshiaki: I can't see, isn't it obvious!
The footsteps come closer and closer before moving farther away again. The boy took the goggles off Toshiaki's head and walked to the ocean behind them. The boy glides the lenses of the goggles across the black ocean and hands them back to Toshiaki.
?: Put these on.
Toshiaki puts them on again and is shocked, he can see again, but everything is red on account of his goggles.
Toshiaki: How? I-I can see…I can see! Hahahaaah!
Toshiaki starts to cry tears of joy, running out of the portal to tell his parents, but his sight disappears again and he collapses onto the ground.
Toshiaki: Wha… what! No… NO!
The dark realm enshrouds Toshiaki once again.
?: You can only see using these goggles in the digital world, if you want to keep your sight; you're going to have to do as I tell you. I cannot do miracles, if you wish to be able to truly see again, you may want to try praying.
Toshiaki: I don't care about any of that! I-I'll do anything! I- let me see! Please! I want to see!
?: One more thing, you'll need this.
He hands a Digivice to him.
Toshiaki: What is it?
?: Don't use it around other people unless I tell you to.
Toshiaki ends up back outside the Dark Area.
Toshiaki: Hey, what's your name?!
Wraith: Wraith(Echoes)
Toshiaki is sitting in an abandoned grassy field holding his digivice. Without any action on his part, the digivice electrifies releasing the digimon within. The two are sitting cross legged across from another. The creature starts to use sign language to speak to him, but there is no response. It leans forward looking at Toshiaki intently before speaking.
Gaiomon: I…see…you're…blind. I suppose… you… can't see… my hand ….signals.
Toshiaki's heart races, though he can't see the creature he can sense something extremely large looking at him.
Toshiaki: What are you?
Gaiomon: I am Digimon… Gaiomon… partner.
Its words sound labored as though it needs to concentrate really hard to form words. It notices his confused expression.
Gaiomon: Words… cannot… reach me.
Toshiaki: So, you're deaf.
He smiles.
Gaiomon: Why… smile?
Toshiaki: We're the same.
Gaiomon: Hnm. I suppose.
Toshiaki: What do you mean by partner?
Gaiomon: We fight… make new world… peace… no pain.
Images of what happened to him flood through his brain.
Toshiaki: (So, I can make it so that no one has to go through what I did).
He stands up, feeling the warm wind blow against him.
Gaiomon: Where… go you?
Toshiaki: To make the world a better place.
Screen goes black.
Amaya Fukui
Chapter 1
Amaya: My name is Amaya Fukui, I'm great at soccer and pretty smart too, but for some reason I just don't seem to fit in with everyone else. I do have some friends, but I spend most of my time alone, studying or reading books.
The next scene shows Amaya standing by her locker with her book bag hung over her shoulder. Two girls run up to her.
Girl: Hey, Fukui, nice job with the game today!
Girl2: Yeah, you were great!
She smiles, nods, and the two take off. Her best friend Akemi comes up to her.
Akemi: Amaya, ready to go?
She nods again and the two walk home. She throws the door open to her house, throws off her shoes, replacing them with her wabaki.
Amaya: Mom, Dad, I'm home!
Her father is sitting on the couch reading the newspaper and her mother is at the stove stirring something in a pot. Her father lowers the newspaper slightly, smiling at his daughter and her mother hangs out from the kitchen as well.
Father: Hey there, princess.
Mother: Hello, sweetie, how was practice?
Amaya: Great! I scored 7 goals!
She says as she runs up the stairs. Her mother stands in front of the stairs.
Mother: Amaya, honey, dinner will be done in 15 minutes!
Amaya: Okay!
That night, Amaya sits in her room at her desk; she's using the computer for a research project. Her mother comes in, opening the door a crack.
Mother: Amaya, it's getting late, don't you think its bed time?
Amaya: Okay, I'm almost done.
Mother: Well, alright, but don't take too long.
As she clicks around a few times, a box comes up, Amaya clicks the "x", but the box with flashing writing keeps popping back up. Finally she clicks the link in the box.
Amaya: Might as well see what all the fuss is about.
As she clicks a chill goes up her spine. The images on the screen show to naked women on top of each, one of them is sticking some kind of device in between the other girl's legs. Time slows as her body begins to shake and her temperature rises. The image of the two burns in her mind, she reaches down almost instinctually, toward her crotch with her fingers. She has never felt something like this before
Amaya: Nhm. (What am I doing?)
She suddenly shuts the computer off, slamming it shut. Next morning she finds herself unable to concentrate, images of the two women and what they were doing keep flashing in her head as she sits at her desk. When school is let out she leaves rather than going to practice, but is stopped by the coach.
Coach: Hey, Amaya, where are ya goin, the team needs ya?
Amaya: I know, it's just, I'm not feeling well today.
Coach: Well, hope you feel better, see you later.
Amaya: Bye.
She enters her house.
Mother: Amaya? What are you doing home so early? Are you feeling alright?
Amaya: I'm fine, mom, just under the weather, that's all.
Mother: Well, okay, tell me if you need anything.
Amaya: I will.
She sits on her bed, glancing periodically at her computer. She holds her head, gritting her teeth, as memories flood her brain. She flips of the lamp on her desk and gets into bed, but turned out tossing and turning all night anyway.
Chapter 2
The next morning Amaya feels as though she is in a daze. During gym class she finds herself continuously staring at a classmate that she never cared to even notice before. The girl seems to walk towards her in slow motion.
Girl: Hey, Amaya, you alright?
Her words don't reach her.
Girl: Amaya.
She finally snaps out of it and responds.
Amaya: Yeah, yeah, I'm fine.
Girl: That's good, you were staring.
The girl walks back toward her three friends, they seem to be gossiping about something. The girl who Amaya had stared at looks back at Amaya for a second before turning back around. Suddenly all three friends turn to looks at her and Amaya realizes that they were talking about her. She quickly turns and walks away.
Amaya: (Stupid, stupid, that was stupid! Why did you keep staring at that girl, it's not like you haven't seen her before!)
Later in the locker room, Amaya awkwardly starts to change her clothes, distracted by everyone around her, something she never used to have a problem with. As she stands there in her underwear and bra, she unknowingly starts to stare at the girls rear next to her, clad in green underwear.
Girl: Ewww, Kaho, Amaya's starring at your butt!
Kaho: Eww, what's wrong with you?!
The locker room is thrown into an uproar as the girls all yell.
Girls: Amaya is a lesbian, Amaya is a lesbian!
Amaya panics, she's sweating, she can feel her face turning red.
Amaya: No, no I'm not! I mean I wasn't-
She walks closer to Kaho.
Girl: I totally saw you, you liar pervert!
The scene cuts to Amaya walking through the front door of her house, she sees her parents, both standing by the dinner table. She can sense that something is different, wrong. She can feel her heart rate climb as she walks closer and closer.
Amaya: W-what's the matter?
Mother: Amaya…
Father: We have to talk.
Her stomach drops, they know, somehow they know.
Mother: A girl named Kaho's mother called fifteen minutes ago, furious, saying you touched her.
Father: And she's not the only one.
It feels as though her parent's eyes are burning holes through her. She becomes flustered, not sure what to say, she wished she had a mask if only to cover her face.
Amaya: I… don't know what to say.
Mother: Tell us you didn't do anything; tell us its all lies.
Father: Know these girls said you touched them-
Amaya: I didn't touch anyone!
Father: Amaya-
Amaya: I looked for a few seconds but-but…
She catches herself, but too late. She looks back and forth at her shocked parents before shutting her eyes and running passed them up the stairs.
Mother: Amaya!
Her husband puts a hand on her shoulder and she stops calling after her. Amaya slams her door shut and slinks down with her back against it. She can hear her parents talking to one another and starts to cry.
Mother: Where did we go wrong? Is it something we did?!
She looks at the computer and the screen zooms in, she had looked at the pornography again.
Chapter 3
Next morning as Amaya walks to her locker, she can feel hundreds of eyes staring at her. Amaya's spirits improve slightly as she sees her best friend at her locker.
Amaya: Hey, Akemi!
Akemi: Hi…
She gives a quick smile before immediately walking around Amaya and down the hall.
Amaya: Akemi?
The boy next her leans close. Amaya hopes to hear some kind words.
Boy: What's the matter? She not wanna hang out with a dyke?
During class Amaya looks over at Akemi who is a desks length away from her and waves. She pretends not to notice her. After lunch akemi comes out of the lunch room with five other girls. Amaya builds up enough courage and walks up to her.
Amaya: Akemi, why have you been avoiding me?
Akemi looks nervous, embarrassed, and a bit conflicted. She says nothing.
Girl: Don't you get?! She doesn't want to hang around with your dyke-ass! Now move!
They push past her as she just stands there, to shocked and hurt to move. As the days go by Amaya is increasingly more ostracized and bullied. She noticed a considerable change in how people treat her. After winning the after school game, Amaya and her team goes into the locker room. As she begins to get changed everyone completely ignores her, one girl walks past her shoving her into her locker door. As the other students happily run past Amaya, she dreads going home even more than being at school. She is afraid to face her parent's, what will they say? What will they do? She walks into the house; her dad is sitting on the couch reading the newspaper as usual. Amaya swallows and brings her head up.
Amaya: D-dad.
He didn't hear her or at least pretended not to.
Amaya: Dad.
Father: Hey, honey, Amaya's home.
Mother: I'm sorry, but I'm working on dinner right now.
She keeps looking at her father until he finally responds, putting down the newspaper.
Father: Did you say something?
Amaya: Nothing.
She walks past him and up the stairs. She slouches against the door to her bedroom, looks at her computer and starts to get another urge. Amaya grits her teeth grabs the lap top and slams it into the trash angrily.
Amaya: (It's all your fault!)
For weeks she pulls her grades up to A's and tries her hardest at her soccer games, but no matter what she does her parent's won't give her the loving recognition they used to. Despite having stopped looking at the pornography, the feeling continues to linger. She had hoped that if she stopped things might return to normal, but they didn't, adding to her frustration. As the weeks go by the students treat her progressively worse. One time when she is walking down the hall a boy simply shoves her full force into wall for no reason. She clutches her hurt arm holding back tears. Another boy runs past the one who shoved her and high fives him. In the next scene Amaya is washing her hands in the bathroom.
Amaya: (So far so good, today might be one of the better days.)
Suddenly a bunch of girls come into the bathroom, Amaya just keeps looking down at her hands, trying to go unnoticed.
Amaya: (Just keep walking, just keep walking, please keep walking.)
Girl: Yo, dyke!
She closes her eyes, takes a breath and turns around.
Amaya: M-me?
Girl 2: yeah, you, who else would I be talking to?!
Amaya: Well…
She nervously looks at all the other girls with her.
Girl 3: Sounds like we have a bit of a smart-aleck, here.
Amaya: Listen, I don't want any-
Girl 4: Shut up!
Girl: I don't ever want to see you here again, understand?
They start to walk away.
Amaya: B-but, it's a public bathroom!
Girl: So?!
Amaya: So… everyone has the right to use it!
Girl: What did you just say?!
The girls throw her to the floor and beat her. When she comes home, she hobbles into the house dragging one legs with large bruises on her face. Her father's eyes turn from his newspaper to Amaya; he looks worried, but doesn't say anything. Two weeks later she is walking down the hall, the bullying has gone down a bit. She looks over at three girls leaning against the wall. They smell like cigarettes and are decked out in black out fits, with matching spike collars around their necks.
Punk 1: Hey, you, yeah you.
Amaya: Just leave me alone.
Punk 2: Don't be like that.
Punk 1: We know how you feel.
She stops and walks closer.
Amaya: Y-you do?
Punk 3: Yeah, we're just like you.
The middle punk girl's face comes with in centimeters of hers. She puts a finger under her chin, easing closer as if about to kiss her. Amaya can feel her heart rate increase. Then suddenly the girl shoves Amaya lightly. The three laugh hysterically.
Punk 2: What a loser!
Punk 3: Dyke!
They suddenly grab her by her arms pinning her against the wall. The lead punk girl slaps Amaya across the face.
Punk 1: Did you actually think I was gonna kiss you?! Hold her still!
The two girls coldly keep her still while the one shoves her fingers between Amaya's legs, massaging her most private area.
Amaya: Stop!
Punk 1: What's the matter? I thought you liked this?!
Her eyes move down towards her crotch and Amaya immediately knows what she is going to do.
Amaya: please don't!
The girl pulls her pants down revealing her underwear to everyone in the hall. But that's not the worst of her problems.
Punk 3: Oh my gosh, look she's wet!
Punk 2: What a slut!
The girls say laughing with their hands over their mouths. Amaya quickly pulls up her pants and runs out of the school with her book bag.
Chapter 4
As she walks home, she fights back tears, both from frustration and pain of her cuts and bruises. Suddenly, a group of four kids, three boys and one girl come out from the bushes. Amaya backs away slowly; her upper lip begins to tremble.
Girl: Get her!
Amaya: No, get off!
They throw her to her knees and start to take turns punching and kicking her.
Boy: You like this?
He rips on her hair.
Amaya: No!
Boy 2: Show the fag!
Girl: Awe, are you afraid?
Then suddenly, a black hole opens up, a silhouette can be seen inside and the students run off screaming in terror. Amaya is left crying, still on her knees. The black hole engulfs her and she is transported to a very dark, cold place. As her eyes begin to adjust she makes out an ocean. A boy suddenly comes up from the water and slowly walks ashore, stopping in front of Amaya. She continues to look down.
Amaya: If you're going to kill me, just get it over with.
She says between sobs.
Amaya: I'm tired of all the pain; my best friend won't talk to me, my parents don't love me. What else is left for me to live for?
The boy puts out a clawed finger and places it under her trembling chin forcing her to look at him. He does so in an almost flirtatious manner. Amaya's heart is pounding in her chest as her body mats with sweat. Despite his rather frightening appearance she can't help but feel a certain charismatic warmth coming from him which she hasn't felt in months.
?: It's not your fault you know.
Amaya: W-what?
?: What chance did you really have in a world created by adults?
She continues to watch the boy as he begins to walk around.
Amaya: Y-you mean-
?: The only reason you turned out this way is because of the pornography, you would have been completely normal if it weren't for that pornography. And who created such filth?
Amaya: T-the adults.
He gets on one knee in front of her and wipes her tears away using a handkerchief and then blows her nose.
Amaya: I-if you're not going to kill me…what do you want?
?: I want you to help me make a better world, one without adults and their perverted fantasies, a perfect world.
Amaya: No one will take me seriously.
She looks to her side. The boy walks toward the black ocean behind him and swirls his fingers over the water. Suddenly a Hannya demon mask comes up from the water and he holds it in his hand. He helps her up.
?: With this mask they will fear you and with fear comes power.
She takes it and puts it over her face. She immediately feels more confident and sure of herself. Her voice takes on a more menacing tone.
Amaya: What do you want me to do?
The boy gives her a digivice, she looks him in his eyes.
?: Kill them, kill them all.
Under her mask she smiles and evil grin. The scene cuts to Amaya walking in a junkyard, still wearing the mask, there are at least twenty of her classmates standing together at a dead end made by walls of trash.
Boy: Yo, check it out.
Boy 2: What the-?
Girl: What's her problem?
Amaya walks eerily toward the group, very, very slowly.
Boy 3: Who is that?
Girl 2: What's she doing?
Akemi comes forward with a worried expression.
Akemi: Amaya? Amaya, is that you?
Amaya stops for a second tilts her head slightly like an animal and then lifts her arm, holding up the digivice.
Boy 4: Okay, she's seriously creeping me out.
Suddenly, Phelesmon comes out of the Digivice and all the children start to scream. Amaya continues to walk toward them as Phelesmon dashes past her. Blood curtailing screams can be heard as the screen goes black.
Andrew Mconnelly:
Wraith: I was born Andrew James Mconnelly, I am the leader of an organization known as the Dark Arms. My life has not been an easy one and I have scars to prove it, both physical and emotional. When I came upon the Digi-destined on the beach I confided in a girl named Sora, I let my guard down because she reminded me of my mother. I told her my story, but to tell you the truth... I didn't tell her all of it.
The story opens with two babies in their cribs, one of which is crying, two shadows can be seen moving on the walls out in the hall.
Father: Would you shut that thing up?! It's bad enough that I need to get up and go to work every day, but now I have to come home to this?
Their mother runs forward, picking the crying baby out of the crib and cradling him. He calms down slightly.
Mother: What do you expect. He's just a baby.
He walks into the room undoing his tie.
Father: Yeah, well when he grows up he's gonna learn real fast, there's no room in this world for crying.
In the future, the twins and their mother come out of the movie theater, they had gone to see a movie on their birthday, Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back.
Mother: I'm sorry for getting your hopes up. I really thought it was a Digimon movie.
Andrew: That's okay! I liked it! Mewtwo was really cool, wasn't he?!
He says thrusting his hand out as if firing the dark energy ball from the film.
Mother: What did you think, Matthew?
Matthew: M-hm, it was cool!
Sometime later the two are playing on the floor while their mother starts to prepare dinner in the kitchen. Matthew is holding a toy Digivice with five Digimon cards layed out in front of him. It's all they could afford. Andrew is lying on his stomach drawing on a small note pad. The television remote is sitting next to him in pieces. Andrew has always been fascinated with machines, seeing what they look like inside, how they work. Matthew crawls on his knees over to his brother.
Mathew: What's that?
Andrew gets up showing his crude drawing, it resembles a purple star fish with a single eye at its center.
Andrew: It's my Digimon, he's going to protect us.
They hear the doorbell ring, look at each other and then at their mother. Their father has come home, all of them look worried, a knot builds in Andrews stomach.
Mother: Your fathers home, hurry you two, upstairs. And remember to pick up your things you know how it bothers him when you leave them lying around.
The two run upstairs into their bedroom holding each other in a corner. Andrew braces himself, is this one of the good days? Or one of the bad days? Some days he simply comes home and goes straight to bed. On a particularly good day he may even kiss them on the forehead and tussle their hair. Others he would only target their mother, leaving them alone completely. And on bad days... They listen as the door slams shut below. They can here yelling, but they can only make out parts.
Mother: H-hello, dear, how was-
Father: Why isn't my dinner ready!
Mother: I know, darling, but cleaning took a little longer then-
Father: Shut up!
Mother: Ah!
They can hear the slap even from where they are.
Father: I don't care about cleaning, next time, dinner better be ready when I get home, understand?
Mother: Yes, of course darling.
Father: What's this?
The woman looks with horror as he picks up a movie ticket off the floor. She must have forgotten to throw it out.
Father: Ya know, I work hard every day, payin all the bills, takin care of you and you go and do something like this? Wasting good dough so these two kids can go watch a cartoon?!
Mother: B-But, honey, it's their birthday.
Father: Andrew! Matthew! Where are you?! Get down here!
Though afraid Andrew gets up and begins to walk out the door. He turns to his brother who is still huddled in the corner and holds out his hand.
Andrew: Come on, we have to go.
Matthew shakes his head back and forth, he looks terrified.
Andrew: If you don't come it's just going to be worse.
Finally the two make their way down stairs, their legs shaking with fear.
Father: Hey, buddy, are you gonna give your old man a hug, or you just gonna stand there?
He smiles, holding out his arms. Andrew hesitates for a moment, but ultimately the hope that his father is being sincere this time wins out and he runs into his fathers embrace. He notices a little too late that his father stinks of alcohol, soon after he feels all the air in his lungs leave his body. His father punched him in the stomach.
Father: That's what you get for makin me wait.
He falls to his knees clutching his stomach, tears gush from his eyes, not just from the pain but also the betrayal.
Father: Oh come on, bud, I didn't hit ya that hard, get up.
Matthew backs away from his father, not wanting to be his next target. He sits down at the dinner table, with an angry expression.
Father: Well?
They all sit down and their mother brings over the pot of soup.
Chapter 2
In the next scene the three are sitting in the twins bedroom. Sometimes, when their father would stay late at work. Andrew loves these days the most because their mother would read stories to them, sometimes even out of the Bible. Their mother was always busy throughout the day, cleaning, shopping, and cooking, but when she read to them it brought the family together. They are sitting on the bed as their mother reads to them. The Chapter is Ezekiel 38, it mentions a "Gog head of Magog" and how he will attack Israel. The Bible always gave them hope, even though they had a father who didn't always love them, they had one in heaven. That's what their mother liked to say at least.
Andrew: So, God will stop Gog?
Mother: Yes, that is right. It's a bit strange isn't it?
Matthew: But, can't someone else stop him? Like America or something?
Mother: Well, that's not what it says.
At the end of the reading of the passage Andrew rubs his eyes and yawns.
Mother: Well, I guess we should take that as a sign. We should be getting to bed.
She turns off the light and starts to walk away.
Matthew: Mama, if God loves us, why does he let daddy, be mean to us?
She walks back into the room and sits down on the bed embracing the two.
Mother: It's going to get better, sweetie, I promise. It has to.
As his mother hugs them, Andrew thinks about the passage she had just read them.
Andrew: ( ...Gog)
As time goes on, their father becomes more and more violent, almost as if he is literally looking for new excuses to hit and abuse them. Their father would beat them and their mother for even something as small as leaving a dirty spoon in the sink or being "too loud". One day while the twins are playing upstairs Andrew shows his brother a second picture he drew. He flips a page of his notepad revealing what looks like a black metal demon.
Andrew: And this is his Mega form, he's the toughest guy around. I based him the guy mom told us about.
Andrew looks angry, he did not draw this Digimon with good intentions in mind.
Matthew: You mean, Gog. Why would you-
Just then they hear the door slam, their father had come home once again.
Father: You two get down here!
Matthew's eyes grow wide in fear, he just remembered that he had accidently left his toys lying on the living room floor. When they reach the living room the screaming starts immediately. Their father is standing angrily in the middle of the room with a beer in his hand. Their mother is standing against the wall.
Father: What have I told you two about leaving your crap laying around?!
Andrew walks forward with a confident expression.
Andrew: I'm sorry, it was me, Matthew had nothing to do with it.
Matthew: N-no, Andrew you-
The old man looks back and forth between the two and then smacks Matthew across the face with the back of his hand. He then looks back at Andrew.
Father: Don't stick up for him, you think I can't tell when you lie?
Their mother tries to intervene but he shoves her against the wall.
Father: Stay out of it! These kids need some punishment.
He throws Matthew to the ground and starts beating him. Suddenly, Andrews fear turns to hatred. All this time he feared his father but still loved him, but now that he sees his battered brother crying on the floor, he only feels blind hatred.
Father: Don't you get how good you have it?! I could kill you, bury you in the yard and no one would ever miss you!
He closes his eyes which are starting to fill with tears and screams as loud as he can.
Andrew: Stop! Leave him alone!
Father: What?
Andrew: Just die. We hate you! No one will miss us?! It's you no one will miss! Why don't you j-just die already!
With this his father becomes even more enraged, lumbering toward him. Matthew runs into his mothers arms, both huddling against the wall.
Father: I'll teach you some respect.
His father punches him across the face, knocking him to the floor. He bends down slightly alternating between punching the right and left side of his face. The only time he stops for even a moment is to kick his son in the stomach and chest. The Andrew starts to crawl away with blurry vision and blood smearing the floor. His dad continues to pin him down, beating and kicking him in the stomach over and over again. His mother is in the corner crying with her arms around his brother, Wraith doesn't know if she's crying for herself or him. Andrew reaches his hand out toward a crucifix on the wall.
Andrew: (Help me...Please. Make him stop. P-Please!)
His eyes shut and he succumbs to darkness. The bright morning sun shines through his bedroom window and he awakes on what he assumes is next morning, his father hadn't killed him after all. He tries to sit up but the pain is so unbearable that he falls back down.
Andrew: (I'm alive) Owww!
After taking a few quick breaths he forces himself to get out of bed. As he walks around the house he notices that no one is there, it is quiet, peaceful. The boy opens the front door to his house and looks out finding nothing, no car, no family, no neighbors. Andrew hesitates then looks at the ground crinkling his eyebrows, thinking. Then without warning he runs as fast as he can, he doesn't know where he will go or what he will do. But none of that matters, because right now, he is free.
Chapter 3
He spends the next days living in alleys, the high he got from running away has now left him and he is hungry.
Andrew: I have to get food, somehow.
He curls in a ball on the ground. Deep down he knows that if he wants to eat, he's going to have to steal or go home. And he would rather die then return to his father. But he has been starving himself for two days because he knows stealing is wrong. He looks up at the sky.
Andrew: (I-I'm hungry.)
Nothing happens. In the next scene he walks through the streets eyeing, the food stands. There is everything from breads, to fruits, to bottled water. There is one that is particularly crowded, the Arab woman behind the stand is extremely busy, turning now and again to hand something to a customer(Money or food). He eases his way closer and closer, then grabs a bun before taking off. The woman seems to have noticed what happened but simply gives a sympathetic smile looking in his direction. However the owner who was watching from inside frowns. Back in the alley he scarfs down the bread, with tears streaming down his face.
Andrew: (I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.)
Days go by and he continues to steal jumping from stand to stand and spending his nights shivering in the cold. Over time he becomes ambitious, stealing more and more food at a time. On one particular occasion he goes to the market as usual, but this time the Arab woman is not there. In fact, it looks completely unattended, so he takes a peek in the window, but doesn't see anything inside. He takes as many goods as he can, shoving some of it into his pockets and carrying the rest in his arms. As he runs through the alley ways his path is blocked by two adults and a overweight surly man comes up from behind. It is the store manager from before, though, not having seen him, Andrew doesn't recognize him.
Manager: Well, what do we have here? Did ya think you could keep stealin from us and get away with it?
Andrew: I-I'm sorry, b-but I-I was so-so hungry and-
Man 1: Oh, you're gonna be sorry alright.
Man 2: We'll make sure of that.
Manager: You're gonna learn what happens to little punks who think they can get away with stealing from me.
One of the men punches him across the face causing him to drop all the food, they surround him, kicking and beating him mercilessly.
Andrew: (Why did this have to happen? Don't they know that I don't steal because I want to? That I have no other choice? They never care about anyone but themselves!I hate adults! I hate them all!)
Manager: Enough, that should just about do it.
They starts to back away from him and he takes the small window of opportunity to grab what little he can and run through the newly made gap.
Man 2: Hey, he's gettin away!
Man 1: Should we chase him?
Manager: Of course you should ya idiot, don't let em get away!
Andrew keeps running, jumping fences and twisting and turning through alley after alley until he reaches a dead end. He starts to panic now, seeing only a metal door which seems tightly shut. Just as their voices get louder and he sees their shadows approach the metal door opens a crack. A raggedy man peeps out of the door.
Bum: Quick, in here, little guy.
The man reaches out a hand. He looks at the complete stranger and then back down the alley. Seeing no other choice he runs inside and the man closes the door using a metal bar to keep barricade it for good measure. The men bash on the door, but after much cursing they give up and walk away. The man exhales.
Bum: Whew, that was a close one... I hope what ever you got was worth it.
Andrew holds the food closer to his chest and frowns.
Bum: Alright, alright...I get it.
The two sit down in front of a trash can which the man seems to be using as a makeshift fireplace. Andrew doesn't speak, so the man decided to do the talking instead.
Van: So the names Van. What's yours?
Andrew: Andrew.
Van: So, Andrew, looks like you were having a bit of a rough day there. Those guys, they were chasing you, right? Because you stole their food?
Andrew: I know it's wrong, okay!? But I didn't have a choice.
Van: Hey, you don't have to tell me, little guy, gotta make a living somehow, right? People like us, we don't really have many choices.
Andrew: S-so you... do it to...steal?
Van: Since I was seventeen, had some bad habits, parents kicked me out.
Andrew: I ran away.
Van: Abusive dad... right? That's tough. But hey, since you're here, I have some soup warming up over the fire, want some?
Andrew feels ashamed that Van is offering him food despite him having greedily horded his own food. So he puts it down.
Van: Alright, looks like we're gonna feast tonight!
Andrew: (Maybe, not all adults are so bad.)
After eating, he starts to lie down to go to sleep. Van gets up and pulls a sleeping bag out of the trash littering the room.
Van: Here ya go, you can use this, little guy.
He gets in the sleeping bag and turns toward Van.
Andrew: My name is Andrew.
Van: Right, sorry!
Weeks go by and the two spend time together telling stories, sharing the food they stole, telling jokes. At one point Andrew even helps Van out of a tight spot. Three men are about to jump him, but Andrew, who had been hiding jumped on one of their backs, jabbing him with a screw driver van gave him.
Van: Get down!
Andrew drops off and Van punches the man in the face. The two are distracted by their comrade who fell to the ground. Andrew out maneuvers the other two and leaps over the fence behind them along with Van. The two make off with their haul of the day, laughing.
Van: Hey, you're makin this easy, I've never had this good luck alone!
He tussles his hair. Like every other night, Andrew gets in his sleeping bag and goes to sleep, but something awakes him from his rest. He can feel something brushing up and down his chest. He sits up slightly and sees that it was Van. Andrew backs away quickly on his hands and rear.
Andrew: W-what are you doing?
Andrew doesn't quite comprehend what is going on, but he doesn't like the way Van is looking at him. It reminds him of how his father used to look at him, but something about it is different, even scarier.
Van: It's alright, little guy, there's nothing to be afraid of. It's what grown ups do to show each other that they love each other.
He continues to crawl toward him, reaching for his pants.
Andrew: S-stop!
Andrew punches him in the side of the face, but he simply looks back at him emotionlessly.
Van: What you do that for, little-
Andrew fumbles in the dark, trying to find something, anything to defend himself. Finding the screw driver, he leaps forward stabbing it through Van's face and chest over and over again, tears stream down his face. Van's body falls backward, but Andrew gets on top of it, continuing to stab furiously.
Andrew: I trusted you! I trusted youuuuu!( No, there are no good adults.)
Andrew suddenly realizing what he has done, drops the screw driver and runs back out into the streets.
Chapter 4
He sits in an alley, clutching his legs to his chest, as the rain pours down on him. He stares blankly into space, the only thing keeping him warm is his hatred for his father. The one who made all of this happen.
Andrew: (I-I killed someone, the-the police are going to find me, I can't let them find me.)
Every time he hears the sirens his heart stops, thinking they might be looking for him for what he did. What would they do to him? Lock him up forever? Give him the chair? He didn't know. Then something unexpected happens. A very large shadow comes up from the ground with glowing red eyes. Andrew is too cold and tired to be afraid of the shadow.
Dragomon: Poor child, who has left you there all by yourself? Come with me, I will protect you.
Andrew looks down considering whether he wants to trust the shadow.
Andrew: Why should I trust you? Every grownup I've trusted hurt me.
Dragomon: Ah, but I am no adult, I am a Digimon, Dragomon, king of the black ocean.
Seeing no real response, the Digimon changes the conversations direction.
Dragomon: Would you like to make him pay?
Andrew nods weakly and falls through a gaping whole which has formed below him. He hardly gets any time at all to register what is happening, falling into the black water below. The note pad that he had been keeping in his pocket slips free, disappearing into the dark abyss. He thrashes around, struggling to stay above water.
Andrew: Help... I ... can't... Swim!
Dragomon: Now, now, if you can't even swim back to shore, how will you take vengeance on him? You can do this, little one, concentrate, don't give up.
Andrew goes under and Dragomon exhales, disappointed.
Dragomon: Or perhaps you require a little aid.
Dragomon sends a huge wave, thrusting the drowning child towards the shore. He flails around coughing and sputtering as the wave pushes him to a shallower part of the ocean. Once on the shore he takes a look into the black water, a chill goes up his spine as he sees his reflection.
Andrew: W-what did you do to me?!
Dragomon: I made you stronger.
Andrews reflection shows a boy with black eyes and yellow irises, razor sharp teeth, and clawed fingers. A floating purplish starfish appears next to Andrew. Dragomons shadow appears in the middle of the ocean.
Dragomon: Pandemoniamon is your partner, it will help you to achieve that which you desire.
A digivice floats ashore and he picks it up.
Andrew: This is-! (Pandemoniamon, but I never told anyone his name.)
It is the Digivice he had left behind, the one that to his knowledge, was still sitting at home.
Dragomon: Yes, it is the very same, why don't you try using it?
He holds it up and yells.
Andrew: Digi-armor energize!
He looks at his hands, legs, and chest, he has now become Pandemoniamon's Mega Form. Dragomon gives a malicious smile, narrowing his eyes. Near by Digimon who had been watching, back away with fear at the mere presence of the black Digimon.
Dragomon: With this you will bring every foe you come against to their knees, with this you will be unbeatable.
Seeing the half-conscious way the child looks at himself, he can tell that he is tired. This doesn't bother him however, Dragomon has always been patient.
Dragomon: I think... that is enough for today. For now, rest, I have much work for you to do tomorrow. The next morning he awakes after having fallen asleep on the sea shore. After receiving some food, which had been mysteriously laid out for him, he walks closer to the water and Dragomon's shadow once again appears.
Dragomon: Are you ready for your first task?
Andrew: Yes.
Dragomon: I will send you to various places you have never been to. Kill any Digimon you find and load their data! For each time you load a Digimon you will become stronger!
Pandemoniamon: Okay.
A portal opens some hours later, and Andrew comes out beaten and battered. He falls into the black ocean and as he sinks his wounds are healed.
Dragomon: Hnm, and how did we fare today?
Pandemoniamon: I got a lot of data, but it's not enough, I need more! I'm going back out!
Dragomon: Are you sure?
He bursts from the water and once again enters a portal, each time coming back badly hurt.
Dragomon: It would seem you require a bit of training.
In the next few scenes it shows Andrew learning different fighting techniques, using wooden beams for practice. The Scubamon come up from the ground in front of him.
Dragomon: Let's put what you've learned to the test. They will serve as sparring partners.
As he fights with the Scubamon one of them nicks his right arm. He stops and looks at the blood, which is now black.
Andrew: It's black...
Dragomon: How...peculiar, it would seem that the Dark Area has bonded with you.
Andrew runs forward trying out some of the moves he has learned on his temporary foes. After each session, Dragomon teaches him a little bit of Japanese. Having already been taught a second language(Hebrew) from his mother, he picks up the language pretty quickly. Over the next six years, he becomes obsessed with becoming more and more powerful, doing nothing but killing digimon and absorbing their data. He quickly gains a reputation as Dragomons Chief enforcer, donning the title "Prince of the Dark Ocean". One day after returning from a mission, he comes down to the ocean and bows on one knee.
Pandemoniamon: I have returned, Master. Hnm?
He sees Dragomon lying close by with data leaking rapidly from multiple wounds.
Pandemoniamon: No!
He looks back and forth not knowing what to do. Turning around he looks at the Scubamon for help, but they simply stare back at him.
Pandemoniamon: Why are you just standing there?! Help your king!
He pulls out one of his blades and aims it threateningly in their direction.
Dragomon: They know...there is no more time left.
Pandemoniamon: Who DID THIS!? Master!
Dragomon: Load...l-load my data.
Pandemoniamon: What?
Dragomon: With my power added to your own, not even the Seven Great Demon Lords will be able to stand in your way. I-I have one last qu-question.
Pandemoniamon: Yes?
Dragomon: You said you based your Mega form off Gog, w-why?
Pandemoniamon: Why?
Pandemoniamon looks confused at why at a time like this, that would be the question he chooses to ask.
Pandemoniamon: Because no one can defeat Gog except for God!
Dragomon: Very well then, Gog, head of Magog, you will usher in a new age for my kingdom, crush anyone who dares stand in your way! Do not give up until your vengeance is sated and you stand at the very pinnacle of power!
Pandemoniamon: Yes...Father.
He loads his former masters data as instructed and turns around to face the Scubamon, killing one of them with his Armilus cannon for good measure. They back away with there arms up in defensive positions.
Pandemoniamon: I am your king now, do my bidding!
Chapter 5
In the next scene Andrew lands on the roof of his old house, peering through the open window. The images jump between the present and a tv screen. On the TV a News reporter is talking about a wrathful ghost with yellow eyes that has been spotted by locals from time to time. They had deemed him a "Wraith" and called him "yellow-eyes" or Ki-me in Japanese. Matthew is lying in bed, his body is riddled with bruises and bandages. It would appear that his father beat him enough for the both of them ever since Andrew left. Andrew looks deeply saddened, he had spent so much time worrying about himself and his own problems that he had forgotten about his brother. Matthew pulls the sheets up to his face.
Matthew: W-who's there? ... A-Andrew?!
Andrew: Come on, we're leaving.
Matthew leans forward obviously shocked by his brothers changed appearance. Andrew holds out his hand and his brother grabs hold, both disappearing into the night. In the next scene they are both standing in the Dark Area, where five Scubamon appear.
Matthew: What are these things?!
Andrew: Their my servants, they don't talk much.
Matthew: Servants?
He looks in their direction.
Andrew: Did you do as I ordered?
The shadows nod. Pictures flash across the screen, the Scubamon have been busy handing out digivices all across Japan, America, and the world. In one scene there are five children standing together, four boys and one girl. She holds up the digivice and a Cherrymon comes out. In another scene an angry looking Indian boy is sitting in a slum looking at his Digivice. The semi-transparent image of a Rephaimon is in the background. A girl is walking over a bridge as a train goes by, in the gaps of the train you can see a Birdramon flying over head, but when the train passes it is gone. In the final scene three children hold up their Digivices in a field at night, revealing a Zanbamon, a Flymon, and a Dokugamon.
Matthew: A-Andrew what are we-
Andrew: From now on I don't want you to call me that anymore. I'm not the person you remember, I'm a ghost, a shadow of my former self. Call me what "they" have been calling me...call me... Wraith.
In the next scene(Two years later) Pandemoniamon is standing on the rubble of his home town, his soldiers are clearing the place out. As he watches from a distance, two Digimon come up to him and drop his father at his feet.
Ogremon: We brought him to ya, just like ya ordered, boss.
Snimon: It took a good few minutes just to find the coward, he was hiding!
He gets up and stumbles away from them.
Father: They didn't bring me here, I came here on my own!
He looks at Pandemoniamon and then at Matthew, who is standing a few feet behind him scowling.
Father: A-Andrew, i-is it really you in there? Look, son, I-I'm sorry, you have to believe me, I'm, not the man I was! When I lost you kids and your mother, I was lost...devastated. I went to the AA meetings, I've taken therapy. Please, just give me one more chance, I know I can't make up for everything I did, but I can try! We can be a family again, me, you, Matthew, your mother. Please! I won't betray you.
Little does his father know that this is the worst possible phrasing he could have used. Pandemoniamon looks to the side contemplating his fathers abuse and Vans betrayal, then without warning aims his gun barrel at his father and fires a reddish black blast.
Pandemoniamon: Your no father of mine!
Father: A-Andrewwww!?
Within seconds the his father goes from person, to skeleton, to dust. Matthew looks completely shocked. He doesn't seem sure how to feel at the moment, on one hand he was his father, on the other, he hated him. Pandemoniamon goes berserk, slipping out os sanity. He takes no heed of the comrades still in the town and opens fire. The consecutive blasts demolish what's left of the town and everyone in it.
Matthew: Wait, we still have people in there! Andrew! Andrew?! Stop!
He doesn't seem to hear a thing. Instead, he takes off into the sky launching attack after attack. Once he comes back to his senses he touches down. His soldiers and Digimon cower, stepping away from him.
Pandemoniamon: Let's go.
A news station camera which had been dropped on the ground films the incident. The footage wouldn't be found for months. Fast forwarding to a time much closer to modern day, Wraith leads his Generals through various areas: slums, war zones, polluted oceans, destroyed forests. "When we Stand together by Nickelback" plays in the background as he conveys his point. He shows them many things, poor children, child soldiers, trafficking victims, all the worst mankind had to offer. By the end, they are in Africa, an Albino child missing a leg limps toward them, falling in front of Wraith. Wraith bends down and holds out a hand. Some African people with guns appear, apparently having chased the child. In Africa, Albino's are chopped up, their body parts sold for profit. The bloody child looks up at Wraith and reaches out a hand, putting it on Wraiths palm. Before passing, the child smiles having received kindness before dying. The screen goes black as Pandemoniamon slaughters all of the gunmen. At the very end Pandemoniamon sinks to the bottom of the Dark Ocean, looking upon a partly buried Temple. On the heavy door there is an emblem of a Digi-egg.
