Tansy

Her father has given it to her and told her to drink. She didn't ask, she just obeyed. He's been so mad, she just wanted him to be proud of her for once, like he was for Catelyn and Edmure, but never for her. At least she didn't think so.

When she was young, her mother had loved her, and Cat too, but she wasn't so sure about her father. And then mother was pregnant again and Edmure came, and then mother died and things were bad, but then Petyr came and eventually Petyr mattered more than anything. And then he's almost gotten killed, and she has been so worried, but Catelyn saved the day and asked for Petyr's life as a wedding gift from her Lord betrothed. And Petyr lived, and when the maester finished patching him up, Lysa has discretely gotten into his room and he touched her and she touched him and then she has been unmaidened and then left to cry alone while Petyr slept. She went back to the bed she was sharing with Cat for that night and spent the rest of the night crying. But she could tell no one, or they would know of her shame. She just cried and everybody believed it was the nerves for Petyr's life ending. But it wasn't just that. After some weeks, when Petyr was on the road to recovery and was able to move, her father ordered Petyr to get back to his keep in the Fingers and to never come back to Riverrun. Lysa let out a piteous sound when she heard the news, and ran to his father solar to ask for herself to be married to Petyr, but her father denied her, saying he has bigger, better plans for her. What could be better Lysa thought than a life with the man I love and who loves me in return? But he didn't love her. Or at least, not enough. For Lysa ran to his side when her father denied her suit. She ran to him and told him than she loved him, and that he loved her, and that they should elope together and get married and then go to the Fingers and live there happily ever after with their many children, and eventually her father would forgive them and they would be welcomed back into Riverrun and… Petyr stopped her with his questions What did she mean when she said that he loved her? What did she mean that he told her? And Lysa didn't want to, but she explained to him the night after his duel with Brandom Stark, how they became one and she was now his woman and he her man. Petyr seemed puzzled, almost as if he had been caught unguarded. So, I also slept with you? Was it before or after Catelyn came to me? Lysa was so surprised, and then so shocked and then so furious! Cat came and slept with Petyr? No, it can't be! That shameless… but then she stops herself. And as she realized, her face whitened. After begging for Petyr's life, Catelyn has gone to the sept to pray with their septa, and later she has gone with uncle Brynden. And uncle would never leave them alone with any man. And then they had had dinner together, Catelyn and Lysa in Catelyn's room, and they have decided to sleep together and Catelyn lend her a nightgown and then Catelyn went to sleep and Lysa stayed awake until most of the castle slept and then she has gone to Petyr and after she has spent the night crying. And the next day, Catelyn has been sent to the Whent's castle together with Uncle Brynden so that their Whent aunt would help her to buy fitting clothes for the wedding between a Lord Paramount's daughter and the heir of the North. Petyr hasn't slept with Catelyn, Lysa realized, he thought I was her all along.

Oh, the betrayal. The horror. Lysa tried, but for the Seven, she couldn't put it into words. Or none that she could articulate. But Petyr didn't seem to realize, for he kept talking. Well, it doesn't matter, for I will marry Catelyn and you'll become my sister and can come and live with me and we will be like the Conqueror, with two sister-wives, and… but the horror has opened Lysa's eyes and she could now she things she has never considered before. Except that you are not a Dragon Lord. You are the descendant of an Essoi sellsword, with an insignificant keep and perhaps the poorest lord of Westeros. No septon will allow you to marry two women, two sisters, simultaneously. I will just be a paramour always eclipsed in your eyes by my sister and your lawful wife and all my children will be nothing but bastards. Lysa shivered at the thought, but then she realized that she might as well be carrying one of those bastards in her belly right now, and for the second time in the conversation, her eyes opened dramatically, making her look like a gutted fish, and her world tittered in its axis.

Swift as the wind, Lysa left the room without looking back. She went through the corridors, down the stairs, through doors and still she couldn't breathe. Tears ran down her eyes; she didn't know what to do. The sept, her room, her father's solar, none of them seemed to be the place to be. She went down to the river and looked as the water came and went, ever present, never stopping, just like her tears. Lysa hoped that her tears would at some point stop, that there was an end to her pain, that she would be able to overcome this, but the more she thought about it, the bleaker her future seemed. What should she do? What must be done?

"Lysa"

Lysa turned and saw her father close to her. He hugged her while talking in her ear.

"Little Lysa, what's the matter? The servants told me you were running while crying. What's happened to make you so sad?" Said Hoster.

Lysa's tears started anew, but her father seemed especially determined to get it out of her. In another moment, her father would have ordered Uncle Brynden or Cat to look after her, but since both were away, he seemed to be willing to take care of her for once himself. After some coaching, the story came between hiccups and in chunks. Petyr, the night of Brandon's duel, his disdain for her, the possibility of her pregnancy. His father's eyes darkened, his face became more and more like stone. He then gave her a last hug and told her that he would be going for her septa and to take care of things, and they would speak later.

Lysa, emotionally drained after such a day, went back meekly to the castle. Her septa saw her and immediately called for a bath and dinner. The maids brought water and conversation, but they quietened after a pointed look from the septa. They took care of Lysa and once bathed and in a comfortable dress, she had her dinner with her septa in a small sitting room next to her and Cat's quarters. Then the septa made her pray through the prayers of the Maiden and Smith, and then the maids helped her into her nightgown and back to bed.

Next morning, horrible news came. Lyanna Stark has been kidnapped by the Crown Prince. Father was very tense and whispers started to come that Brandon Stark had heard the news and, with his Wolfblood boiling, had taken his horse in the direction of King's Landing to fight the Prince and get his sister back. Father's humour didn't improve after that bit of news. It was then when he had called her to his solar, explained that he was disappointed with her, but that things could still be solved. And then he gave a cup to her and told her to drink. She didn't ask, she just obeyed. He didn't seem so angry anymore, but he's been so mad, she just wanted him to be proud of her for once, like he was for Catelyn and Edmure, but never for her. At least she didn't think so.

That night, the pains had started and her courses came. They were early, she wasn't expecting them for another se'enight still, and they acted as if they were also displeased to be called on early. Lysa felt nauseous and febrile and pained inside and out. She cried from the pain, she puked and her temperature heightened. When the maester came to her, he asked her if her moonblood was greater than other times, but to Lysa and the maids that changed her sheets, it was the same amount as any other time. He gave her a poultice and kept her abed for the next four days, while her body purged itself. When one morning she woke up not feeling nauseous but still weak, her father came to visit her and was glad to see her awake. He told her that he's brought a surprise and immediately Cat came into the room and hugged Lysa tightly.

"How are you feeling?" Cat asked.

"Hungry and tired"

"No wonder, it seems as if you've lost a stone. I'll get you something to eat and then you can rest again while I unpack and when you wake up again, I'll show you what I brought for you"

Their father has called a maid and instructed to bring breakfast in a tray. Then, he looked at Lysa and said "You had us very worried"

Her heart soared at the thought that perhaps he did love her and was proud of her, just as he was of Cat and Edmure.

"I'm sorry, father"

"Bah, there's nothing to be sorry about. You just think about getting better and we will take care of the rest" It sounded heavenly to Lysa. She smiled weakly at her father and then turned back to Cat.

"What happened? When did you arrive?"
