"Dustin, stand back." Steve said as he took a few steps back himself.

"What? Wait. Steve!" Dustin said, as Steve kicked the door in.

He saw you passed out on the floor.

"FUCK! Len! Len! WAKE UP!" Steve screamed as he ran to you.

"OH FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" Dustin said, in full panic.

" HER PULSE! SHE HAS A PULSE! DUSTIN CALL 9-1-1!" Steve screamed.

Noticing the bottle on the floor next to you he realized what you had done. Sitting you up so you were leaning a bit over the tub, he put his fingers down your throat to force you to throw up. It took a few seconds but finally you gagged and threw up. Unfortunately you didn't wake up.

In the process, Dustin had run back in to help Steve hold you up while you threw up. They wiped you up and Steve had you cradled in his arms.

"Please babe, please don't leave me. I need you. I love you so much." Steve sobbed.

Sirens could be heard in the distance. Steve checks your pulse and it's grown weaker.

"I-I'm gonna flag them down." Dustin says, getting up.

As the paramedics come and take you into the ambulance Steve and Dustin drive behind in Steve's car. The entire drive is a nightmare. Both lost in thought, both terrified of what will happen. As they arrive at the hospital, Steve is out of the car and by your side in seconds with Dustin close behind. The paramedics wheel you in with Steve and Dustin at either side of you. Steve has your hand in his and as they get deeper into the emergency room a nurse is screaming for their attention.

" YOU CAN'T GO IN THERE." The nurse says, grabbing ahold of Steve's shoulder. He releases your hand in despair.

"W-where are they taking her?" Steve chokes out, not even looking at the nurse.

" Are you family?" The nurse asks.

" Yes." Steve says, glaring at the nurse wondering why that matters.

" She is going into the OR. They'll do their best to save her." The nurse said, looking at Dustin and Steve with sympathy.

"You boys can wait in the waiting room." The nurse said, before leaving them.

Steve went over and sat next to Dustin. Too lost in thought, he didn't realize the younger boy was crying until he spoke up.

"I-Is she going to die?" Dustin asked, looking at Steve.

At that, Steve looked devastated. He couldn't think of that, wouldn't think of that scenario. He told himself that you were fine, that you'd be fine. He couldn't think of the possibility that after everything you two have been through that you would die and leave him like this. You were his everything. Yea, he thought his love for Nancy was real. That Nancy was his true love and that he wouldn't find anyone better but he was wrong. He was way off the mark. He couldn't imagine a world without you. He couldn't imagine a world with you gone.

"Steve say something." Dustin pleaded, his voice cracking.

Sitting down, Steve looked at Dustin.

"She's gonna be okay." Steve said, emotionless.

"Fuck! How do you know?" Dustin said, raising his voice.

"Sh-she was….she looked…" Dustin couldn't finish

"Don't even say it." Steve cut Dustin off, glaring.

" Steve s-she tried t-to end her life." Dustin stuttered out, voice cracking.

" I know." Steve breathed out, closing his eyes tight.

" She said she was doing better. She said she was okay. This is all my fault." Dustin says getting up and pacing now.

"E-Eddie told me to look after her." Dustin says, choking on a sob. " I'm supposed to look after her." Dustin says as he stops his pacing and breaks down.

" Dustin, no man. S-she isn't your responsibility. She's going to be alright." Steve says as he grabs Dustin into a hug.

Time seemed to pass slowly. Both Steve and Dustin in their own tormented thoughts. Waiting, hoping, praying that you were going to be alright.

"Are you two the ones waiting for Eleanor Munson?" A nurse asked, a few hours later.

"Y-Yes," Steve says, getting up. "How is she?"

" She'll be okay. I was told your quick action saved her. She is still unconscious but we were able to bring her heart rate up and she should recover in time. Physically she'll be okay." The nurse said.

"What do you mean physically?" Dustin asked.

"She attempted to kill herself, correct?" The nurse asked, but without waiting for a reply she continued.

" It's not physical pain that compels patients like her to try to commit suicide, it's the mental and emotional pain that drives them to do it. She'll be under observation for at least the next 24 to 48 hours. I can show you to her room if you like." The nurse said.

With a nod, Steve and Dustin followed the nurse to your room. Entering the room, they both stopped in their tracks as they looked at you. You were asleep and hooked up to all these machines, a constant beeping noise filling the room.

"The doctor was just in to check on her. He'll be back again after making his rounds." The nurse said as she closed the door. Fortunately, you had your own private room. Steve and Dustin didn't have to worry about any other occupants. Steve sat on your left side while Dustin went over to sit on your right side.

"She looks so pale, so fragile." Dustin whispered as Steve took ahold of your hand.

" Please wake up." Steve said, squeezing your hand. "Please baby, wake up."

Time moved on as Steve and Dustin waited for you to open your eyes. The doctor came in at some point around dinner time and told them what the nurse said. He told them that you would be monitored for the next 24 to 48 hours. Before he left he informed the two boys that you should be waking up soon.

As both boys sat by your bed, their stomachs started to grumble. It was around 2pm when they found you and now it was nearly 8pm. With Steve refusing to leave your side, Dustin had no choice but to go by himself to get the food.

"Len, you have to wake up okay. I need you. Dustin needs you. Hell, even that high school group of D and D nerds need you." Steve said with a slight chuckle.

" We promised each other forever, remember. We said we'd love each other always and forever?" Steve said, tears falling as he traced over the promise ring he gave you for your six month anniversary.

*FLASHBACK*

"Steve, where are you taking me." You chuckled as she sat in the passenger seat of Steve's car.

"Just wait, you'll see." Steve said, glaring playfully.

"The old mall?" You asked as Steve pulled up to what remained of the burnt up mall.

Parking his car Steve turned over to you.

"I know this might not be the best place to do this and I know we all have some horrible memories here but I also have some of my best memories here." Steve said, smiling at you.

" Yea cuz wearing a corny sailor uniform is definitely on my list of best memories." You said, chuckling.

" Not that." Steve said, rolling his eyes.

"Then what?" You asked, looking at Steve with what he thought to be the most beautiful smile.

" You." Steve blurted out without thinking.

"Oh my gosh! Is Steve 'the hair' Harrington trying to be super romantic right now?" You asked, laughing hysterically.

"Hey! I can be romantic." Steve argued back.

"Aww Steve, I know it's just really fun to tease you." You said, chuckling.

" Well, if we can get back to what I was saying." Steve said, getting a bit nervous.

" Oh yes, please proceed Mr. Super Romantic Boyfriend." You said grinning.

Rolling his eyes, Steve held your hand and continued.

" This is where we became friends." Looking at you, Steve could tell what you were about to say so he beat you to it.

"I mean really became friends, not just two people who helped save the world from a pack of Demodogs. Before the job I got here I only knew you in passing and stuff people said about you at school. All I knew was that you were Eddie Munsons younger sister and a bit of a troublemaker." Steve said grinning.

" Hey, being a troublemaker isn't entirely bad." You said, pouting a bit.

" True, but if I remember correctly, didn't you unscrew one of the teacher's desks and chair causing him to fall to the ground and then didn't a piece of the desk land on his foot, breaking it? Didn't you get suspended for that?" Steve asked, arching a brow.

" Oh my gosh, you remember that?" You exclaimed in excitement.

"How could I not? The entire school wouldn't stop talking about it for weeks." Steve said, chuckling.

" Yea well, I never meant for him to get that hurt. I just assumed he would bruise his butt, not break a limb." You said, shrugging.

"After we accidentally dragged you into our troubles with the Demodogs we formed an acquaintanceship and then started working at the stupid ice cream shop and I really got to know you -"

" Just spit it out Steve, please. Unless you're about to break up with me which would totally suck and I'm pretty sure Eddie will kill you, Eddie and maybe Dustin." You said, getting very nervous.

"WHAT! No,no! I'm not breaking up with you." Steve said, adamantly.

"Then if you're not breaking up with me, what did you bring me here for?" You asked, getting really nervous.

Taking a deep breath Steve said, " I brought you here because this is where I really got to know you. This is where I started to fall in love with you. I brought you here because I wanted to give you this." Steve said, pulling out a jewelry box. " and tell you that I love you." Steve said, as he opened the box. "It's a promise ring of sorts."

"Oh my gosh Steve!" You nearly screamed.

The ring itself was simple, except for the extremely small encrusted diamond on top.

"You don't have to say it back b-but I would love it if you accepted the ring." Steve said with a slight stutter.

"Steve, it's beautiful but aren't promise rings for virgins? We aren't exactly virgins." You said, with a smile.

" True, but I saw it and thought of you. I thought instead of a chastity promise I could give it to you and promise to love you for the rest of my life because you're it for me." Steve said, smiling.

You started to panic.

"Steve, we've only been together for 6 months. How can you know that I'm the one? How can you know t-that we're meant to be? What if you get tired of me? What if Phoebe Cates comes along and you fall in love with her? I heard what you said about her when Dustin came home from camp. What if Nancy wants to try over again with you. She's so perfect but I'm not Steve. I-I'm not perfect. I'm not rich or live with parents that are well off. I didn't grow up being friends with the popular kids. I grew up in a trailer home with my Uncle and my older brother. My Uncle had to work odd jobs just to put food on the table for us. I'm going nowhere after high school because we can't afford college." You said, fully panicking.

"Hey, hey hey, look at me." Steve said softly. Taking your chin, he turned you to face him.

"I don't care about any of that and I could care less if Nancy came crawling back, begging for another chance. Not even Phoebe Cates could change the way I feel about you." Steve said, smiling.

" I promise-" Steve says as he kisses your cheek to wipe the tear that was falling.

"To love you-" Steve says, kissing your nose.

"Always and-" Steve says, kissing your forehead.

"Forever." Steve says, before he kisses you on the lips.

The kiss is soft and gentle. When he breaks the kiss you can't help but smile.

"So will you accept the ring?" Steve asks, a bit hesitant.

"Yes." You say, barely above a whisper.

" YES!" Steve cheers as you give him your left hand to put the ring on.

"Dork." You say, looking away to hide your blush.

" I'm your dork though." Steve says, grinning from ear to ear.

" Let's go get some food and really celebrate." Steve says as he moves to put the car in drive.

"Steve, wait!" You say all of a sudden.

"What?" Steve asks, a bit caught off guard.

Leaning over, lips only centimeters away from each other, you whisper, "I love you too, always and forever" and with a smile you kiss him.

*PRESENT*

"Eleanor please, we promised each other always and forever. I can't imagine a world without you. Please baby, if you just open your eyes I swear to love you all my life. Come back, I still need you. I swear to be there for you no matter what. I'll do a-anything just p-please baby open your eyes." Steve begged, choking on a sob.
