Wulf, along with many other students sit in history class listening to the lecture being given by their teacher, Mr. Reed. The middle-aged balding history teacher turns to face the class to speak. "May 3, 1999, a day that will forever live in infamy. On that day, humanity first learned of the existence of Digimon as the Triumvirate Empire invaded Earth from the Digital World. All of you weren't born yet when this happened, but I remember it like it was yesterday. As you all know, to the south of us is a city called Seattle. Well, the ground on which Halcyon is built used to be a part of Seattle. However, in 1999, large portals connecting Earth and the Digital World opened above not just in Seattle, but other cities around the world as well. Their opening caused a shockwave of powerful energy that decimated large portions of the cities below. Afterward, armies of evil Digimon passed through the portals, and began their brutal war on our planet." Mr. Reed continues to lecture the students. Despite this crucial lesson, Wulf has a hard time focusing, still thinking about Katherine. Mr. Reed clears his throat and continues speaking. "Nearly three months into the conflict humanity was starting to suffer under the Triumvirate Empire. The nation of Japan, the Korean peninsula, and even the entire continent of Europe had all fallen, Russian and Chinese forces were being steamrolled and their governments were on the verge of collapse, and the western half of our own country was facing a brutal occupation stretching from San Francisco to Dallas. This was a very dark time for our planet that many still haven't recovered from." The stern professor continues giving his presentation to his students with ease and confidence. As the students are lectured, their Digimon are stored away in their Digivices, probably the only time of the day no Digimon can be seen whatsoever. Wulf's mind continues to be jumbled, playing a game of tug-of-war where he struggles between thinking about Kat and Mr. Reed's lecture. He knows he should listen as he tries his best to, but now his anxiety has drained him into feeling exhausted. He eventually dozes off to sleep in his seat.
A dream emerges in his sleeping state, a recurring one he has had for quite a while. For him, however, it's not just a dream, but a memory he swears he experienced. Wulf sees a far younger version of himself sitting near a river, holding a basket of flowers, he couldn't remember what kind though. It was such a strange dream for Wulf to experience. As he gazes upon the river, he can feel rumbling on the ground and sees ripples forming in the river. Suddenly, a large being rises from the lake, towering over the young Wulf, growling down at him. It's a Seadramon, a large sea serpent Digimon. Wulf naturally gets scared and is about to run, when suddenly, he sees a strange figure charging and striking the Seadramon, causing it visible pain. It lands next to Wulf, then grabs him and gets him to safety behind a tree before resuming its battle with Seadramon. The battle is intense as Wulf watches from safety. Eventually, Seadramon is scared off and travels away down the river. The being approaches Wulf to make sure he is alright, and although blurry, Wulf remembers getting the best look he can remember at this figure. It was standard human height but wasn't a human. It had yellow fur, and looked animalistic, even having a tail. He remembers it looking closest to a fox almost. He also could've sworn it had brightly colored gloves on. The being asks him if he's alright, to which he reassures it. Wulf, feeling grateful, gave the being a flower from his basket, but he couldn't remember what type of flower it was. He also wasn't sure whether he hugged it or not. The being accepted his gift and then vanished, ending all he could remember about the encounter. Wulf never found out what that being was, nor why it saved him. He knew it was likely a Digimon, but he had never seen a Digimon like that before. Suddenly, reality snapped back for him.
Wulf woke up to see every student in the class along with Mr. Reed himself looking at him. "Wulf, care to listen in on my lesson today?" Mr. Reed bluntly stated. Many students were grinning a bit, and some couldn't help but let out a slight chuckle. Wulf felt very nervous upon realizing the embarrassing situation he was in. Thinking fast, he tried to damage control. "Y-Yes sir, I'm here." He stuttered. Mr. Reed only murmured and continued with his lesson. Wulf still felt quite embarrassed and now wanted to get out of school and be alone as soon as possible. After thirty more minutes had passed in the class, the bell rang and school for the day was officially over. Wulf sighed with relief and quickly gathered up his items and stuffed them into his school bag. He then practically fled the classroom and began making his way toward the front door, only stopping by his locker to drop off a few things. Finally free from school, Wulf traversed the crowded campus full of students who were leaving through the front gates. Making his way onto the streets, he, of course, found them to be no less crowded than the campus. Wulf needed to be alone, that he knew clearly. He looked up and saw a tall building nearby. He remembered being able to go to the rooftop to be alone. Not wanting to wait until he got home, Wulf started heading for the building. A long elevator ride later after entering the ground level of the building Wulf found himself finally alone on the rooftop. He walks to the edge of the roof, looking down at the city and pondering about his life. "Halcyon, it's a truly nice city, but why did my parents have to just send me here so abruptly? And Kat, I wish we were so much more. I like you and want us to be together. Is it me? What could I be doing wrong?" Wulf feels lucky to be in a relationship at his age and wants it all to work out, but Kat is just being so distant, and he doesn't know why. He continues to look down onto the city, continuing to debate the conflict in his head.
Suddenly, almost as fast as a jet plane, Wulf hears a rather threatening-sounding buzzing that speeds from his left ear to his right. His chain of focus is broken as he hears this oddity, turning around to try and figure it out. To his confusion though, nothing is behind him on the rooftop. Then, Wulf hears again, speeding past behind him as he has his back turned on the edge of the building. Once again, he turns around and finds a rather unusual sight. The pink mist begins to seep up the building walls and over the roof edge, quickly clouding the entire rooftop. "What's going on?" Wulf says, confused as his vision becomes hazy from the pink mist. As he tries desperately to see, a horrifying sight meets his eyes. Four green orbs meet the front of his eyes, two big and two small, all glowing ominously. As he stares into the mesmerizing orbs, his ears are swarmed by a loud and repetitive buzzing sound, which matches the buzzing he heard just a minute ago. Then, before Wulf can react, a gaping maw below the green orbs sporting sharp teeth that are dripping with drool opens wide and emits a terrifying hissing sound. The stunned boy takes a step back and realizes what he is looking at, a big dragonfly-like creature sporting six limbs, a putrid green carapace, and a tail with a sharpened end. Its wings rapidly flutter and produce the buzzing that Wulf was curious about, while he realizes that the green orbs were its eyes, completely soulless and void of life. Wulf feels terrified, and shaken to his inner spine, feeling a sense of fear that freezes him from even moving or crying out for help. While the clueless boy may not know this creature's name, it is a Yanmamon, an Insectoid Virus-Type Digimon. As Wulf continues to stand still, Yanmamon lifts its head and speeds right past his shoulder, leaving Wulf confused. He finally manages to move, looking around desperately to try and see where it has gone. Suddenly, from the mist, Wulf sees the Yanmamon speeding directly towards him with its sharp-toothed maw opened wide, ready to strike. His pupils shrink, and fear once again causes him to freeze, he is only left with a feeling of acceptance as he closes his eyes awaiting his doom.
But before Yanmamon can kill him, something the weight of a human grabs Wulf and forces him to the ground he then feels himself cradled by soft arms while lying on the rooftop. His eyes slowly opened, only to find his vision now blinded by what felt like a mass of fur, colored white as it pressed against his face. As he felt a soft human-like body pressed against him, Wulf managed to pull his head out of the fur and look up. What he saw stunned him beyond his inner core, a yellow and white-furred humanoid fox being, holding him in its arms as they lay on the ground having avoided Yanmamon's attack. This was Renamon, the one determined to protect Halcyon, but Wulf didn't know, not even knowing Renamon's gender. He only recognized her as the being who saved him years ago, it was almost an exact match, he swore it was. As Renamon turned her head to look at Wulf in her arms, she stared directly into his wide eyes, accompanied by his gaping mouth. Her eyes widened too, almost as if she recognized him as well. Before he could speak, Renamon gently laid him on the ground and let go. "Stay safe, I'll handle this." She then vanished to go deal with Yanmamon. Wulf could barely comprehend what was happening, and despite the clear danger, stood straight up to try and find her. The pink mist fogging up his vision would make this difficult, however, as did him not wanting to risk walking too far and falling off the roof. Wulf looked around but couldn't see or hear her, and then figured that perhaps her battle with Yanmamon had been taken off this rooftop and onto other surrounding buildings. He decided to just stand there, hoping that not only would she win, but that he could meet her after all this was over. Then, from the pink mist, Yanmamon was slammed down onto the rooftop within view of Wulf. Its wings were injured, and it had punctured wounds in its body that even pierced its carapace. As it tried to fly away, Renamon landed next to it, firmly grasping one of its wings and yanking it off its body. Yanmamon hissed in pain as she let go of the wing and glanced as it dissolved into mere data that disappeared into the mist. In a last attempt to kill her, Yanmamon tried impaling Renamon with its sharp tail, but she was quick enough to move out of the way and grab it. Her free hand glowed and chopped off the sharp end of Yanmamon's tail before proceeding to stab its stomach with it. Yanmamon screeched one final time before going completely limp, its body dissolving into data just as its wing did. Renamon proudly absorbed the data, feeling both healed and powered up thanks to it.
Having just seen her finish Yanmamon off, Wulf runs up to Renamon from behind. "Hey!" He calls out. After initially standing with her back turned, Renamon turns around to face Wulf, giving him the best look of her. He just knew this was the being who saved him years ago, and now she has returned and saved him again. He couldn't remember exactly what the Digimon looked like, but what he remembered about them fit the appearance of the figure in front of him. Just laying eyes on her practically jumpstarted his brain, filling in so many blanks in his head. He remembers seeing this exact Digimon fight Seadramon, he remembers embracing her in a hug, feeling her soft fur-coated body. He even remembers handing her a rose from his basket, those were the flowers he had that day in his basket. As Wulf started to get closer, Renamon fidgeted slightly and craned her neck away, almost as if she was about to flee from Wulf. The excited boy stands in front of her, getting a good look into Renamon's crystal-blue eyes. "You saved me, just as you did ten years ago," Wulf said, Renamon only stood still and just stared at him not saying anything. "You remember, right? That day you saved me from the Seadramon near the lake." He further explained, but Renamon only remained silent. "I've been thinking about that day ever since then. And I've always been thinking about you. Thank you so much, but who exactly are you? Are you a Digimon?" Wulf asked about Renamon's identity. Finally, Renamon felt she had remained silent for too long and was a bit curious about meeting Wulf again herself. "Hello, human. I am Renamon, a Digimon indeed." Upon hearing this from her, Wulf's eyes lit up. "Renamon? That's cool! I've never heard of a Renamon before. My name is Wulf." Wulf eagerly states. "So, what are you doing here? Do you live in Halcyon, or do you just occasionally visit? Do you have a Tamer?" As Wulf asks Renamon as many questions as he can, Renamon only grows more nervous. She knew Wulf was the same boy she saved ten years ago. While she often thought about him, she knew he was still a human and felt nervous to be around him. Wulf was just eager to know everything, going on and on.
Renamon knew she had to go. "My apologies, but I must get going now." Renamon abruptly turned around and started walking toward the edge of the rooftop. "Huh? Wait, but you saved me." Wulf said now confused. "I'm sorry," Renamon said, her back still turned. "Wait, don't go, please. I've been waiting so long for this moment." He started to go after her as Renamon stepped onto the rooftop's edge. "Please!" Wulf shouted. As Renamon stood, she seemed to have been hesitating, giving him more time to speak. "Renamon, please. I've always thought about that day at the lake. How scared I was, and how you were brave enough to save me. I think that day, I realized what true heroism was, thanks to you. I could not be more grateful towards you, Renamon." Wulf speaks from his heart while staring at Renamon's backside. Suddenly, Renamon finally speaks. "Thank you." Then, Renamon turns invisible and jumps off the rooftop. Wulf stood there, disappointed. "You're welcome." He sighed and closed his eyes, feeling a wave of disappointment as well as bewilderment. "Why?" He says dropping to his knees, shoulders down as he stares at the ground. Wulf had been waiting for that moment for so long, years, months, weeks, all building up to him meeting the being who saved him once again. But even more suddenly than last time, the being was gone from his life yet again. All he wanted more than anything was to know so much about her, and he couldn't. As Wulf slowly stood back up to his feet, he tried to reassure himself. "Her name is Renamon." He quietly said to himself. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. He knew her name now, maybe he could look up all kinds of information about Renamons and find something about her. Though Wulf had never heard of a Renamon before, surely there was something on them. Still, he felt quite bummed out about this encounter, and all that was on his mind now was to get back home.
