Chapter 2 - It's Time That We Go Our Separate Ways
Our Heros were sitting on the roof of their academy with Sakura on the left, Naruto on the right and Sasuke in the middle all facing their sensei.
"Alright Team now that we'll be working together for the forceable future we need to know each other a little better so let's start with Introductions,"
Sakura was confused hearing her sensei's words "We spend five years in the academy together why do we need Introductions?"
"Sensei can you give us an example." Sakura said while raising her hand
Kakashi looked up from his book and said "Sure Sakura but you don't need to raise your hand if you want to say something just speak up."
Sakura quickly pulled her hand down with an embarrassing look allowing her sensei to speak up
"I'm Kakashi Hatake. Things I like and things I hate… I don't feel like telling you that. My dreams for the future… never really thought about it. As for my hobbies… I have lots of hobbies."
"The only thing we learned was his name" sweat dropped all three of them,
"Alright moving on you are up next pinky"
Sakura was not pleased about the nickname used but knew better than to make it known "My name is Sakura Haruno, I am the Kunoichi of the year in my class things I like well….. (looked at Sasuke and blushed), My hobbies are (looked at Sasuke and blushed again) well my dream is (looked at Sasuke and squealed)."
"And things you hate?" Kakashi felt the need to ask for some reason.
"NARUTO!"
All four men held their ears hearing the screech.
"Kit do something or this stupid girl will die by my hands one day." Kurama said making his displeasure known,
"Well, I can tighten the seal cutting your connection with my senses if you want," Naruto suggested in a sing song voice to his partner,
"Or how about we 'deal' with her on a mission instead, maybe the Hokage will let the Hyuga girl join the team then."
Hearing which our blonde decided to make some facts known,
"First that is not how things work, if anyone of us died on a mission the entire team will go in reserves for a period of three months if there is no threat of war on the village, and second there is no way in hell I am letting Hinata exposed to the dangerous missions I am planning to take this team on 'ttebayo"
Kurama simply rolled his eyes and said "She can handle herself just fine, don't you remember what you gave her three years ago?"
"…she is not ready."
"And she never will be if you kept treating like a child."
Naruto remained silent at that when Kakashi decided to move on hoping to get a better answer,
"Very well, next up you Emo-san"
Sasuke decided to ignore his nick name as well and started talking, "My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anything. What I have is not a dream, because I will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan and kill a certain someone."
"I expected as much" Kakashi thought already being briefed on Sasuke's situation and mindset where as Sakura just thought he was so cool for that, Naruto however had some different thoughts,
"He basically has nothing to do with the village, the only reason he has to stay here is that he hopes to be trained, at this rate Orochimaru would'nt even need his curse mark to make him defect."
"And atlast, you Mr. Orange,"
Hearing his name Naruto brought a big grin on his face and started "My name is Uzumaki Naruto I like Ramen, Playing pranks, Black, Red, Green and White along with my Hokage-Jiji, Iruka and everyone who taught me while growing up and also Old Ramen Guy and his daughter and all the kids that I know, I hate people who are selfish and also those who hurt my friends, My hobbies are training kids on how to be a ninja and eating Ramen, as for my goals I have two goals, First is to make Hokage someday and the second one is a secret, 'ttebayo!"
Kakashi was a little surprised hearing Naruto's answer he didn't expect anything other than Ramen and Hokage but he wasn't going to complain as of right now Naruto was the only one who gave a proper Introduction which was ironically something to complain about,
"Sigh, So Naruto is the most normal member of my team, Great" thought Kakashi sarcastically.
Sasuke was simply indifferent but Sakura decided to say something "If you like all those colors why do you only wear orange, BAKA !?"
Naruto gave Sakura a confused look when he asked while tilting his head "Hu!? What colors?"
"You know, the one you- "Sakura was cut off when Kakashi decided to move on,
"Alright alright, that's enough both of you we need to talk about you Genin Test now,"
That got the attention of all three of them,
"What test sensei? We already passed our Genin Test." Sakura enquired quickly forgetting what she was talking to Naruto about just now.
"That was just a way to weed out the ones who didn't stand any chance of passing the exam your entire class took their real test today and,"
All the three wannabes Genins leaned closer hear what Kakshi had to say,
"Only Team 8 and 10 passed their exam"
"WHAT!" yelled both Sakura and Naruto although for different reasons
"You telling me Ino-pig already passed her Test and now a full-fledged kunoichi, before me!?" yelled Sakura in disbelieve,
"You telling me only the clan heirs passed the Genin Test, I knew the academy was failing but to this extent!?" thought Naruto in utter shock,
"That's right and you three will take your test tomorrow at five in the morning, make sure not to eat anything because you would simply puke, anyway see you all tomorrow." Said Kakashi before puffing out of existence leaving the three on their own.
Sasuke got up from his spot ready to leave, Sakura wanted to ask him out on a date but Naruto beat her to it,
"Oye teme,"
Sasuke stopped on his tracks and turned to give Naruto an irritated look, which our blonde took as a sign to continue,
"Now that we are a team how about we go get some ramen together 'ttebayo,"
Sasuke simply scoffed and answered "We are no team Dobe, just don't get in my way and I might not kill you," and started walking again.
"Damn he needs to work on his attitude," Naruto remarked making a certain fan-girl very made,
Bong
"Shut-Up Naruto Baka what do you know, he doesn't have time to waste on you" she said while smashing him on the head and storming off to the direction of her true love.
Naruto let out a defeated sigh and thought "Sasuke I can handle, making him bond with Konoha while giving him things to train with will be easy the real concern is Sakura I don't even know where to begin with her."
"So, you are planning to give the little Uchiha little treats you call training every time he bonds with this village, isn't that's how the Inuzuka train their Nin-kin?" asked Kurama with a devious smile.
"Don't put it like that he is not a dog, he'll be free to leave whenever he wants!"
"Hmm, so a dog without leash then, not unheard of I suppose"
Naruto groaned hearing the fox's logic and decided against continuing the argument.
Naruto grabbed a quick lunch of ten miso ramen bowls only before making his way to Training Ground (TG) 16 B, it was a hidden training ground known only to Hokage and their direct students which he and his friends used for training, you see TG 16 had a huge waterfall Suiton users used for practice however what they didn't know was that the waterfall had a hidden cave which led to TG 16B,
How did Naruto came to know this little piece of information you ask? Well let's just say his father's Journal was a lot of help, it didn't only give him info about the hidden TG but also ways to enter and leave the village undetected along with couple of small hidden cabin his father had built to store supplies all around the country with his hard-earned money because of which Naruto always had a place to sleep whenever he left the village to train. Not to mention his parent's home which was filled with their memories and books, yes Naruto found out both his parents were heavy reader when he first visited their house with Itachi and Shikamaru at the age of six, after unlocking the house with his blood Naruto, Itachi and Shikamaru found that other than having a Lavish Two Story house his parents had an equally large basement which was turned into a library filled with books on various subjects they had books on History, Geography, War tactics, Different forms of Chakra, Weapon crafting and much more. Shikamaru had to dragged out of that place since he refused to leave before he got to read every single one of them which was what Naruto did when Itachi Finally taught him Kage Bunshin after two years vigorous training at the age of seven, Shikamaru had already finished most of the books in the Library by the time he started but it didn't take him long to catch on hehe the look on Shik's face when he found about the true potential of Shadow Clone was priceless.
His Mother's Journal on the other hand gave him knowledge about her clan "The Uzumaki of Uzushio" and how were they wiped out from by the combined forces of Iwa, Kumo, Kiri, Suna and some other minor villages in the Second Great War, that made him sad but what trully made him made was when he found how Konoha, who failed to save her only ally in the war decided to save face,
"By wiping The Uzumaki Clan from their History Books!"
Never had Naruto felt such disgust before Instead of honoring their fallen comrade's memory the village had found it easier to wipe them from their memories instead, the Hokage couldn't even look him in the eyes when he confronted him about such betrayal all those years ago, he even went as far as to question the memorial stone itself and how many of its shinobi's name Konoha never engraved on the stone simply because it was ashamed. Naruto knew he struck a nerve when he struck a nerve when he saw the old veteran flinch at the jab.
Seeing that Naruto simply turned and left the Hokage Office slamming the door behind him figuring he wouldn't find his answers there so he left the village for a whole two years looking for them at the age of nine and didn't came back himself until he was eleven only sending Shadow Clones from time to time in order to cover for him which had a longer lifespan due to being boosted by Kurama's chakra. However, where Naruto was during those two years, what he learned and who he met was told by him only to Shikamaru, Itachi, Shisui and of course me your new favorite author hehe.
After crossing the waterfall Naruto was saw four brats, two girls and two boys all around the age of twelve, a boy with dark brown hair a pair of goggles and a long blue scarf was bickering with a pale eyed a girl on who was his number two, an orange haired girl with two strange pony tails and a boy with glasses and running nose was watching them from the side line with the boy trying to stop them and failing miserably and the girl just betting on who would throw the first punch this time. They were Konohamaru Sarutobi Grandson of the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi, Hyuga Hanabi Younger Daughter of Hiashi Hyuga the Hyuga Clan Head, Moegi Kazamatsuri and Udon Ise Grandchildren of the Village Elder Hamura and Koharu respectively,
"Alright alright, enough with the fighting if you lot have so much spirit use it on training instead." Naruto said gaining the attention of the four kids,
"Naru-nee!" all four yelled in unison pleased to see their elder brother and sensie
"Naru-nee please tell this white-eyed girl that I am your number two since I have trained under you the longest!"
"What's the point of training longer if half of that time is spend of practicing that stupid Sexy-Jutsu?"
"Hey, don't make fun of that Jutsu it was the first Jutsu nee-san ever taught me"
"That was a long time ago, even Naru-nee-san stopped using it over four years ago but are sticking to it just so that you can perv around using it!"
"Hey, stop it you guys we shouldn't fight in front of nee-san"
"I am bored, we were suppose to start training early today to impress nee-san so that he teaches us cool Jutsu"
At this point Naruto had several tick marks on his head and he decided to get rid of them,
Bong! Bong!Bong!Bong!
All four brats were holding their heads massaging their bums when Moegi decided to ask
"Why me?"
"Because you didn't bother helping Udan while he was trying to stop them,"
"Then why me?" Udon asked very confused,
"Well they are your teammates, if they go down you go down with them" Naruto explained in a sage like tone before continuing "Anyway did you guys completed the task I gave you all last week?"
"Hai!" all four yelled in unison, again,
Naruto was happy to hear the answer he and Shikamaru has been training these kids from before the Uchiha Massacre and they had truly came a long way Konohamaru was a spoiled brat who got his ego boosted by his stupid teachers, since that could have got him killed on his very first mission he decided to correct that, he met Moegi and Udon through him as well they were good kids a perfect and showed potential to be a great team. He met Hanabi a couple of months after the Massacre, she had some Misunderstandings regarding him which when corrected made her feel like a little sister to him along with Moegi, he didn't train them much just a lesson or two every week and yet he could proudly say that there were only a handful of chunins who could take them on in a fight. He made sure they kept their skills hidden of course, he truly believed that displaying your skills unnecessary send your friends further away from you at the same time bringing you enemies closer, that was the reason formidable shinobis like Might Guy and Kakashi made it this far, nobody knew what they were capable of, he even went as far as promising Hanabi extra training for keeping Konohamaru in line and threatened him with immeasurable pain if he opened his mouth, for the world they were just some kids who started their academy last year but only he knew how strong they were,
"By the way nee-san,"
Naruto looked down to see Udon had decided to break him out of his thoughts,
"where is Shika-nee-san?, I haven't seen him for over two months",
Naruto had a sad smile on his face Udon was a tactican just like Shikamaru he used his brain more than his body so of course they built a stronger bond but he couldn't tell Udon what happened between him and Shikamaru that would simply depress the child
"Shikamaru and I went on a very tiring mission two months ago, (Naruto saw he had complete attention of all four of them) give him some more time to rest he will come see you all shortly."
Udon has a relived smile when he heard that Hanabi and Konohamaru wanted more details but Moegi beat them into asking something else,
"Is he hurt? Can I practice my Medical Ninjutsu on him?" Moegi asked with stars in her eyes,
Naruto didn't blame her, the girl had been obsessed with medical ninjutsu ever since Kasumi introduced it to her several months ago, she had already finished her Fish Healing Exercise and had recently gained approval for Human Experi- "cough""cough" I mean practicing on humans which is the reason she stopped helping Udon while he tried to keep Hanabi and Konohamaru from fighting, hoping to get some practice out of their fight.
"I don't think Medical Ninjutsu can heal his Injuries kid." Naruto thought sadly.
"It wasn't your fault kit, you did the right thing."
"Keep telling me that and I might believe you someday."
"No Moegi you can't." Naruto said rejecting the girl's proposal making her roll on the ground with rain clouds over her head
"She might be related to the First Hokage." Kurama remarked
"Wait, What!? Where did that come from?"
"Don't worry about it, Mito would have found that funny."
Deciding to chalk down Kurama's words as Fox being Fox Naruto decided to begin the training session "Alright Saru, you are up first"
The young monkey got a huge grin on his face, this was his time to shine,
He stepped forward in front of a huge rock and closed is eyes, after concentrating his chakra he started going through hand signs before slamming his hand on the rock and yelling
"Earth Style – Earth Staff Jutsu"
I front of their eyes the audience saw the rock starting to shake and transformed into a rock staff and got tossed in the air,
Konohamaru grabbed the mid-air staff and turned to see his friends with a huge grin,
Naruto stepped forward and took the newly formed weapon from Saru and started examining it, the staff was smooth and of perfect dimensions he even slammed it on the ground to test its durability all in all it looked perfect, but..
"The center of gravity is off" Naruto said with an analytical look, but seeing the confused look of his student he explained,
"It means the staff's weight is not evenly spread; your chakra flow fluctuated a little making it heavier at some points."
Konohamaru got a depressed look, chakra control was never his strong hold that was the reason he never bothered with Genjutsu, on the other hand Taijutsu and kenjutsu felt more natural to him even more than Ninjutsu but now this lack of chakra control has come to bite him in the ass, again!
"But it is doable just don't rely on this Jutsu in a life-or-death situation before you master it" Naruto continued cheering up the young man a little.
"Hanabi come forth,"
Hanabi stepped forward walking past a retreating Konohamaru and thinking "I'll do much better than this Baka," with a determined smirk which didn't go unnoticed by Naruto at which he raised an eyebrow,
Standing almost twenty feet away from a larger rock Hanabi started going through hand signs and activated her Byakugan before,
"Water Style – Water Bullet Jutsu"
And shot a highly concentrated ball of water at her target which when exploded on collision caused a large dent on the rock along with countless cracks.
Hanabi quickly turned back to face Naruto and yelled
"Did you see that nee- "
Bong!
Hanabi was cut off because of getting hit on the head.
"How many times have I told you don't use your Byakugan for aiming!" yelled a now very pissed off Naruto.
"But the Byakugan helps me to hit my target perfectly!" Hanabi argued while massaging her head,
At which Naruto narrowed his eyes and asked "And what will you do if you don't have enough chakra to use them?"
Seeing that his student had no answer Naruto decided to continue "The Byakugan is a great tool to have Hanabi, but that's all it is a tool nothing more nothing less, if you continue to depend on it of everything and allowed it to define you your greatest asset will become your greatest weakness as your enemies will figure that countering your eyes would be enough to deal with you and the worst part is they won't be wrong."
Hanabi knew what Naruto was talking about many of the side branch members had died on missions because the enemy knew how to counter a Byakugan, something as simple as a Flash Tag was enough to render their entire skillset completely useless and since the Hyuga would most likely be watching you from a good distance way the moment the enemy found that they were dealing with a wielder of Byakugan they would simply throw a Flash Tag at their general direction to immobilizer them for a couple of second which made the difference of life or death in their line or work.
The Hyuga Elders simply chalked it down to branch members being week but she now knew better, all they wanted to do was to make sure that the branch side of the family remained weak and by proxy remained easier to control. Where as they them self never bothered to counter these weaknesses because they thought the branch member can be used as shields to protect them.
Hanabi didn't want to end up arrogant like them nor she wanted to end up dead in a battle, that was the reason she trained under Naruto he didn't just help her with her Gentle Fist but also other forms of Ninja Arts like Ninjutsu, Archery and Shurikenjutsu all the while being honest to her about her flaws never comparing her with her elder sister, even though everybody said she was far better than Hinata in Gentle Fist that was the only place where she beat her, Hinata was far more intelligent than her and people outside their clan always treated her with more respect than her simply because they liked her for her kindness, for them she was Hinata a kind girl, but she? she was the 'Younger Daughter of the Hyuga Clan' Head and nothing more. But not Naruto, He saw her as who she was and treated her as such for which she deeply respected him, she was ashamed of what she tried to do four years ago to him because of her stupidity and arrogance but he quickly forgave her and even treated her to ramen after beating her lunch out of her and ever since that day he was her Neru-nee-san.
"I got it nee-san, don't worry ill get it next time," said Hanabi with an upbeat attitude,
Hearing that brought a smile on Naruto's face "On the plus side, your attack wasn't lacking in power in the slightest"
Hanabi started jumping up and down hearing the praise while Konohamaru decided to comment on her antics "and she calls me an Idiot"
Hanabi quickly stoped all movements and turned to ask Konohamaru a life-or-death question with her now activated Byakugan,
"What was that, Baka?"
Konohamaru gulped audibly and decided to make a tactical retreat with Hanabi right behind him,
"The Head The Head, go for the head I need to practice treating people through their hair" Moegi yelled seeing the two people running around
"Shut Up Moegi!" Konohamaru yelled from a distance,
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAH" Naruto couldn't control his laughter seeing is surrogate siblings,
"Moegi" Naruto called after getting his laughter under control
Moegi looked back to see Naruto "You are uo next"
Moegi got a determined look on her face she walked in front of Naruto while we could still hear Konohamaru's cries for mercy,
"No, No Hanabi not there not THERE…Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh….."
Moegi was eyeing Naruto cautiously, she knew one wrong move and she will end up with a bump on her head she critically weighed her options, observing her surrounding, cutting off all distractions like someone's cries for help and suddenly started going through hand signs
"Genjutsu – Binding Veins"
Vines emerged from the ground and started wrapping themselves around Naruto restricting his movements, first they grabbed his feats then his torso but when they started making their way towards his hands, he simply brought his hand forward, Snaped his finger and the Genjutsu shattered like glass.
Moegi eyed Naruto for his assessment while catching her breath when he spoke, "How many people can you use it on before passing out?"
"Two maybe three" Moegi answered uncertain about her answer
Naruto nodded before saying "That's because you are not that familiar with the Jutsu yet, you have one week to make this number six"
Moegi nodded before going back to her position only to find Konohamaru and Hanabi sitting with Udon the latter being terrified of something, while Hanabi had a satisfying smile on her face when she congratulated her Moegi simply nodded in response before looking toward her last teammate "Konohamaru? what happened to you?" the boy had a blank expression on his face showing no emotions when he answered "Wrong? Me? What could possibly wrong with me Moegi? Do I look injured to you?" Moegi shook her head in negative earning a nod from the now blank boy.
"Cough"
Naruto coughed gaining the attention of his students cum siblings "That's enough for now we need to get this over with so that we can start today's lessons, Udon you ready?"
Getting a nod from the boy Naruto looked up to see the rest of his students
"While I am testing Udon you three go and perfect your Jutsu" Naruto instructed to all of them, they got up from their seats and left.
Naruto got out a game of shogi unlike the rest of his students Naruto didn't gave Udon and Jutsu to master, no he gave him a list of battle formations to memories, different ways to execute them and making his own modifications as per the situation required, which he was now going to test with the shogi, he sometimes even made a bunch of shadow clones and henged them to his height just to give him real world experience of battle but today was not one of those days, no today he needed to be somewhere, to talk to a certain Nara.
After thirty minutes of playing and trying different combinations of moves Naruto emerged victorious although by a small margin,
"I need to stop playing with this kid, white will never let me hear the end of it if I lost to him." Naruto thought while calling everybody back, after everyone were seated on their spot, he began his lesson.
"Today I am going to show you four a really awesome art, it's a technique which make sure you never run out of weapons to fight with as a matter of fact the Jutsu Konohamaru did earlier was a part of that art"
"What's this art you are talking about Nee-san? Show us" said Hanabi riling everyone else behind her
"Alright then follow me" Naruto said while he started walking towards a tree
All four of them followed Naruto just to see he stopped a good distance away from the tree, everyone stared at him intently with Hanabi even activating Byakugan to get a better look,
Naruto stood in front of the tree letting the winds flow through his golden yellow hair and the green grass bellow him after some time he plucked out some strands of grass from the ground and held them in his hand, he started Molding chakra through the grass until it became straight as an arrow before the kids could understand what was going on he threw the grass at the tree piercing it right in the middle,
The four man squad standing behind him widened their eyes and started running towards the tree to examine it, to their absolute shock the grass had completely pierced the tree before loosing its strength and flowing away in the air,
"How did you do it Nee-san?"
"I thought you needed a special kind of metal to channel chakra through it"
"That was totally awesome Naru-nee"
"Teach me, now"
Naruto calmed the kids down before he started to explain
"Listen Udon it is true you need a special kind of weapon to channel your chakra through something but that's not what I exactly did back their"
"What do you mean nee-san?"
"You see the reason you need a special metal to channel chakra through a weapon is because a man-made weapon does not have chakra of its own, but unlike a man-made object things like grass, leafs, stone, and trees have chakra of their own, what I did was manipulate the chakra inside the grass to make it hard as steel, do you understand?"
All four of them nodded and Hanabi decided to ask "But nee-san if it's that simple why don't people use it more often? This is the first time I am seeing something like this"
Naruto had a smirk when he asked "You sure?"
Seeing the confused looks he was getting Naruto decided to explain "You see Hanabi every form of Ninjutsu weather it be water, earth, fire, wind, or lightening, involves manipulating the chakra either inside you or around you, even Genjutsu involves manipulating the chakra of you opponents",
His students have a thoughtful expression on their faces,
"So, anything with chakra can be manipulated?"
Before anyone could ask any other question Naruto spoke up "Practice this technique and try to figure it out and the next time we meet I want you all to tell me what can be used as a weapon using this technique and how"
"HAI!" was the collective response of the four academy students.
Nara Shikamaru was a lazy man, he didn't like to do anything that wasn't important in his book and that book was very very small even right now he was finding walking to his home after sharing a congratulatory meal with his new teammates Yamanaka Ino and Akamichi Chogi very troublesome. Their new sensei decided to treat them to a dinner after a visit to a bathhouse once they passed his test, unfortunately he was barely prepared for an Akamichi who had been stressed an entire day, first about the fact if he will be placed on the same team as his friends who didn't make fun of him for being foody and then about a second Genin test, rest assured Assuma was in no position to afford another treat before they completed a B rank mission which was a good seven to eight months from now and Shikamaru didn't see any problem with it, No that's exactly what he wanted, a good long break doing D and C rank missions after that mission he went on with his old team.
Shikamaru entered his room after giving his parents the good news to say that they were happy was an understatement that was further corroborated by the fact that his mother nearly broke his neck from the hug she gave him, seeing his parents happy brought a smile on the young Nara's face.
However, the moment he entered his room his smile vanished in an instant like it was never there to begin with, he went through a bunch of hand signs and placed a silencing seal on his room, after that he walked up to his bed of his dark room only lited by the moon peeking through the window, turned around and sat down with a tiered and heavy sigh before asking in an annoyed tone,
"What are you doing here, Naruto?"
Naruto walked out of a corner of his room like a shadow with a huge grin before saying while scratching his head,
"Well, I would have entered through the front door but I didn't want to ruin your family moment, 'ttebayo, they seemed really happy back there, didn't they?"
Shikamaru was giving Naruto an expression less look signifying he wasn't interested in small talks,
"Sigh, alright ill get to the point and leave you alone"
Shikamaru raised an eyebrow while listening to Naruto,
"Listen Shika, I know you are angry with me because of what happened two months ago, but that is not a good reason to cut everyone else from your life, they all miss you and want you back,"
Hearing Naruto's case Shikamaru simply got up from his bed, walked up to his bathroom and started washing his face in the basin, all the while Naruto was just standing there waiting for an answer, when he walked out while wipping his face with a towel he said,
"If you are talking about Udon, Moegi, Saru and Hanabi, don't worry Naruto I haven't cut them from my life ill go see them as soon as I feel like it, as for the rest…, I haven't fully made up my mind yet,"
"But why, they didn't do anything wrong, they are your friends, whatever happened was my decision alone!" Naruto said while trying to plead with the Nara to reconsider,
Shikamaru looked at Naruto as if he was stupid (well can't disagree with that I think) and said,
"Naruto look at this (while pointing at the headband tied abound his arm), This band around my arm indicates that I am a Konoha Shinobi now, being friends with them will be considered treason from this point on, I am not a civilian any more who could just leave the village to go on self-assigned missions and come back whenever he wants without worrying about the repercussions if anyone find out, I am son of the Jonin Commander for crying out loud!"
At this point Naruto got really pissed and said "Well, I am son of the Fourth Hokage and you don't see me abandoning my friends for a reason as stupid as th..",
Naruto realized he said something wrong, as he could see the anger on Shikamaru's face and his eyes, his left eye was red from the outside whereas his right eye was red from the inside, Naruto could even see Three Tomoe like marks rotating violently in that eye,
"Don't you dare talk about abandoning friends in front on me, Namikaze! It is because of your selfishness that we are here today you know that right?"
Hearing his friends harsh words Naruto dropped his head down in shame and said in a soft voice,
"Ya, I do,"
Shikamaru felt he made his point clear as his eyes revered back to normal, he was about to ask Naruto to leave when,
"But that doesn't change the fact that we still need you Shika, I need you to make sure Itachi can return to the village someday and to stop Danzo from messing up this village even more,"
Shikamaru closed his eyes to process his thoughts, he has been thinking about this for a very long time now, even before their last mission together,
"You are right Naruto, you do need my help,"
Naruto got a huge smile on his face he was about to say something when,
"But please care to remind me, why exactly do I need your help?"
Naruto's face which was half confused half shocked hearing that was worth watching, the question caught him completely off guard before he could even begin to process his thoughts Shikamaru spoke again,
"The only time you listen to me is when you haven't made up your mind already, you constantly ignore my advice on very important matters and the only reason you follow my plans during missions is because you couldn't come up with anything better yourself,"
"He got you there Kit,"
"Fuck-off furball, you are not helping,"
"I fell more like a subordinate to you than an actual teammate, and if I am going to serve under someone I would much rather do it under a military leader with years of experience rather than a walking nuke like you"
Naruto was about to say something when Shikamaru cut him off,
"And secondly, both the dreams you mentioned weather it be bringing Itachi-sensei back or to deal with Danzo, I am a much better position to do it from inside the village rather than being missing-nins with my friends,"
Naruto was speechless after listening to all this he never expected his first and best friend and his most trusted ally would say something like this he was heartbroken he couldn't process all this and while he tried to do so Shikamaru walked up to his drawer and pulled out something before walking back to Naruto and showing him what he got,
"Don't get the wrong Idea Naruto, you are still my friend, I am angry with you for what you did, but that is not the reason I believe that it's time that we go our separate ways,"
Naruto looked at Shikamaru's open palm only to find a metal bracelet,
This was no ordinary bracelet, the insides of this bracelets were integrated it high-level compact seals serving various functions, it was a Communication device, a Health and Chakra monitor, a storage seal, a GPS and locationing system, and much more it allowed the wearer to access all these functions by channeling chakra through their system showing them a Control Pannel using something he called Fuin-Genjutsu (basically a hologram) which only he could see, he went so far so to install a in built Shogi game Shikamaru could play with any other wearer irrespective of their distance, It was one of the very first things he made using Fuinjutsu over five years ago and has been making constant improvements to it over the years.
Naruto told Shikamaru that he didn't need to return it but Shikamaru wasn't budging this time,
Shikamaru gave the bracelet to Naruto and turned back to get some sleep when Naruto felt the need to ask a question he was wondering about ever since their last mission,
"Did you…, (Shikamaru turned his head to look him over his sholder) Awoke the Mangekyo that day?"
Shikamaru and Naruto stared into each other's soul for only three seconds but which felt like eternity before Shikamaru turned back and said,
"Even if I did, that would be of no concern to you."
Naruto only nodded in response before disappearing in a Bright Yellow Flash,
Shikamaru fall on his bed back first completely exhausted from the talk he had with his former teammate and decided to go to sleep after undoing the silencing seals.
