Several coaches had followed each other to an abandoned building outside of the city. The suspects had said they had three other men working for them who were keeping watch to make sure there were no escaping and no intruders. Once the building was surrounded, Detective Fitzroy made it clear to Eliza and Allie that they stay inside the coach until the scene was safe for them to enter. He would be the one to let them know as soon as the three men were apprehended. They sat patiently and listened carefully to their surroundings, it had been quiet. Watching the area closely they noticed a man run out of what looked to be an abandoned farmhouse and into an out building. Allie and Eliza looked at each other. They couldn't see anyone to tell nor could they just yell out to get the attention to one of the other detectives to alert them of the escapee.
Allie already knew what Eliza was thinking but chose to verbally make it understood that it was also her thoughts as well, "I know what we were told, and I am not saying we shouldn't listen, but to let this man get away with the crime would be the worst mistake we could make." Eliza nodded in agreement. The two snuck out and made their way to the out building quietly. They could hear rustling from inside. Not exactly having a plan they made sure there was only one entrance of the outbuilding, then each took a side of the door and waited until either the man tried to leave the building or Detective Fitzroy came looking for him. Eliza had shown Allie her gun and handcuffs, "if we need them," Eliza mouthed. Allie nodded in agreement. They heard yelling come from the main farm house, and at the same time the door of the out house started to squeak. Allie and Eliza kept an eye on the inward swinging door as the occupant sounded as if he were trying to take a peak at what was occurring across the yard. The door squeaked open, the man on the other side was trying to be careful which wasn't the case as the high pitched squeak became a high pitched squeal slow and drawn out. As the door opened Eliza drew her gun and stepped in front of the door. Allie followed and Eliza slipped Allie the hand cuffs. The man was taken by surprise and started to reach behind himself. Eliza yelled, "hands up!!" Eliza raised her gun pointing it at the man and cocked it, the man stopped and raised his hands. Eliza shouted more instructions, and nodded to Allie to handcuff him as soon as it was safe to do so. Handcuffs were placed and Allie took the man's arm to steady and lead him to the Scotland Yard secure holding coach, Eliza kept her gun drawn the whole way. Once he was securely locked in the coach, Eliza lowered her weapon, and turned her attention towards the yelling and commotion still occurring in the farmhouse. Allie asked the name of the man sitting in the coach and he stated it was Clive. "Those girls are not even in there." Clive started, "They are in that barn over there in the hayloft." Eliza huffed, "I am sure you are trying to steer us in the wrong direction so you can attempt to run again." Clive pleaded, "no mam, a friend and I were hired to watch the area and only recently discovered what the other three were hiding." Eliza not wanting to be taken for a fool asked Clive where his friend and the other suspect was, he stated they were hiding in the crawl space under the farm house. Clive confessed he was posted as a watchman in the back and hid behind bushes until it was clear for him to run to the out building. "I will go grab the medical supplies Oliver told me about in the coach and look for the women, so you can stay here and make sure Clive isn't trying to pull one over on us." Allie suggested. Eliza replied back with a serious tone which also sounded like a plea, "If anything, looks dangerous and unsafe promise me you will wait?" Allie reassured her, "I promise." Eliza watched Allie run to the other coach where she grabbed the bag and then continued running to the barn. Clive addressed Eliza, "Miss? You have nothing to worry about, earlier tonight night when I discovered the girls there was nothing unsafe in there to prevent access to them." Eliza turned so she could see Clive's face which looked sincere, "Why are you cooperating and being so forth coming with information?" Clive responded, "Like I said Miss, I was only hired to watch this area, tonight was my first night and I got nosey and started looking inside of buildings to figure out what I was protecting. I found the girls and wanted to tell Scotland Yard, but I was promised pay in the morning and my family is counting on me. The girls were tied to beams in the loft and their mouths covered but none of them seemed to be in danger to the point they couldn't wait until morning after I was paid. I can't believe the situation I got into." Eliza sympathized with him, "If you are honest and upfront with information to the detectives I am sure you have nothing to worry about, except you may not get paid. How much did they promise to pay you?" "Five pounds which is good for a nights work," Clive disclosed. Eliza nodded in agreement hoping if this man was telling the truth he would get reimbursed for his troubles and time tonight.
Phelps yelled once he saw her, "Miss Scarlet! It was reported you were advised to stay in the coach until Detective Fitzroy came to tell you it was safe!" Eliza did not appreciate being yelled at and snapped back, "Inspector Phelps, this man named Clive was hiding in bushes behind the house and Allie and I observed him running to that out building over there in an attempt to elope." Phelps shook his head and didn't reply. Detective Fitzroy was not far behind Phelps though he had a suspect and then behind him was another detective with another suspect.
"Miss Scarlet, where is Allie?" Detective Fitzroy asked knowing it was not the time to hear the reason for them not obeying orders as clearly it was beneficial to the raid and he wanted to make sure Allie wasn't in danger. Eliza told him how Clive stated the girls were being kept in the barn up in the hayloft, and assured them there was no danger and the girls were tied to beams and their mouths covered. She also emphasized how Allie braved going in alone and not knowing what she was getting into. Eliza could tell he wasn't pleased, he confirmed when he snapped, "Sometimes bravery and stupidity are the same." He took off running towards the barn and commanded men to follow. Eliza followed as well though she hadn't been invited, while following she thought how much Fitzroy sounded like William when he was upset with the situations she would put herself in without his help, and occasionally knowledge. Eliza had always known William's concern for her came from a place of love, she started to wonder if it was the same for Detective Fitzroy's concern for Allie.
