CHAPTER 22: A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE BIRTH...
THE BULLPEN...
1400 HOURS (2 PM)...
Marty looked up from his computer and smiled...
"It's two in the afternoon and Princess Kensi is off in dreamland, dreaming about her partner in shining armor." Deeks said getting the attention of Callen and Sam.
"She's probably just resting her eyes and not really sleeping." Sam suggested.
"Let's test that theory..."
Deeks reached into the snack drawer and then pulled out a twinkie, unwrapping it as he walked over to Kensi's desk.
"...I guess I'll have to eat this all by myself." Deeks said, but before he could take a bite Kensi snatched it from his hand.
Callen and Sam could not help but laugh.
"What makes you think you could steal one of my twinkies and get away with it?" Kensi asked taking a bite. "Just wanted to see how long it would take you to wake up from your nap and dream you were obvously having about me." Deeks shot back with a smirk.
"I was just resting my eyes...I was not asleep." Kensi informed Deeks with a glare.
"Well if you were just 'resting your eyes' you've been resting them for the past 20 minutes with your adorable little snort snore that you do." Deeks told her and she stood up.
"I was not asleep, Deeks." Kensi insisted. "Sure...whatever you say, Kensalina." Deeks said and headed back to his own desk.
1730 (5:30 PM)...
It was finally the end of the day, Callen and Sam got up gathering their things. Saying goodnight to Kensi and Deeks.
Kensi got up with a smile and started to gather her things as Deeks did the same.
"Have you thought about where we're going for our date tonight?" Deeks asked as he and Kensi waved goodbye to Nell and Eric who were making their way down the stairs.
"Yes, but it's a surprise. So I'm driving." Kensi told him with a smile. "Am I going to regret letting you choose?" Deeks asked and Kensi just shrugged.
IN THE CAR...
"You'll just have to wait and see. I just want to go home and get ready first, and then we can go out." Kensi shot back. "Okay, well can we stop by my apartment so I can get some clothes? Since Monty is already at your house. Deeks suggested and Kensi started to drive.
For a while, the car was filled with Kensi's music as Deeks tried to decide a good time to bring up something with Kensi, fearing how she would take it.
"OKay, what's wrong, Deeks? You'r too quiet and not complaining about my music or anything." Kensi said glancing over at him.
They had already stopped by his apartment and now they were almost to her apartment.
"I was just thinking about when you go into labor..." Deeks started, but was cut off by Kensi.
"We still have a lot to do before that happens. I mean we still have to buy furniture, make a birth plan...and a lot more then that." Kensi told him.
"Uh, yeah, that's what I want to talk to you about. When you give birth do I...do I have to be in the room?" Deeks asked. "Why are you even asking me that?" Kensi demanded throught gritted teeth.
"Well, uh, I'm not sure I can be in the room and see you in so much pain." Deeks said and sounded a lot calmer then he felt, knowing he was pissing off the wrong woman.
"Are you regretting us being together the last few months or having this baby together?" Kensi asked, pulling the car into the driveway and turning it off.
"No, I don't regret any of what's happening between us. I just don't think I can see you in so much pain." Deeks repeated.
"We made this decision together, Deeks. You said you wanted to be there for me while I went through this pregnancy and me giving birth is a part of that. I don't want anyone else there. I want you to cut the cord if you want, I am going through this pregnancy so we can both have the child we want. Deeks, you have been joking about this with me for so long and now that it's reality...it scares you?
How do you think I feel every day? I worry every day that I could lose this baby or I won't be a good mom when this baby is born. I watch you leave and go into the field and I worry you won't come back. That I will have to raise this child alone. So if you don't want to be there th-then fine." Kensi said getting out of the car and heading into her apartment.
Deeks got to the door that Kensi was trying to unlock.
"Kensi..."
Deeks said as he helped her unlock the door.
"I'm sorry, Kens. I want to be there, but I'm afraid that while you're in labor you will find away to castrate me or...or something." Deeks confessed from beside her.
"Don't give me any ideas." Kensi warned and then she headed inside and taking a deep breath Deeks followed her into the apartment.
INSIDE KENSI'S APARTMENT...
Kensi made her way to her bedroom and slammed the door behind her.
